Rating: PG-13
Season: 6
Summary: Willow asks Tara out for a date, but an unexpected visitor changes their plans
Part I
Willow was lying in her and Tara’s bed in the Summer’s residence. She was thinking as she was doing alot
these days. Sometimes she was thinking so much and so fast that she could baerly bring her thoughts in the
right order anymore and it scared her. Whenever that was the case she tried to concentrate her thoughts on a
certain blonde, beautiful, sexy witch. Who should be right here in her arms. Who wasn’t where she should be,
and only because Willow in her foolishness had destroyed what was meant to be. She still couldn’t believe what
overcame her when she did that stupid spell. She had hurt Tara, she had hurt and destroyed their trust in each
other. Leaving her was the only consequence Tara could make out of all this, and Willow was sure that Tara
could never love her again. But she would always love Tara and if possible she would try everything to get her
back. "Baby I miss you," she sighed deeply and closed her eyes. Images of them together danced through her
mind, images of happier days at the initial stages of their relationship. She remembered the nigth they both had
spent cuddled up together on a blanket watching the stars. Tara had told her in that low, gentle, loving voice
about the Big Pineapple, and sometimes when Willow was on her own she would go for a late walk, look out for
the Big Pineapple and think of Tara, trying to make a connection to her brain and tell her that she still loved her,
that she would always love her and always be there for her.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door of her room. She moaned a little frustrated at the interruption. "Come
in."
The door opened and Buffy entered. "Hey Wills, if you don’t mind I need you for patrol tonight. That okay with
you?"
"Sure, that’s exactly what I need right now, some really nasty vamps. By eight?"
"Allright."
Willow nodded and then frowned a little when she remembered the night Tara, Buffy and she herself had been
patrolling together. She remembered holding Tara’s hand and caressing her palm with her thumb, she
remembered how she had refused first to let go of that hand when Tara waved goodbye at them to go back to
her dorm. Tara had smiled at her, that special smile that always lifted Willow’s spirit high up in the sky above
them and had given Willow’s hand a gentle squeeze before letting go.
"Are you okay?" Buffy had been just about to leave when she noted the frown building slowly in Willow’s face.
"Yes, I’m fine Buffy. I’ts just..." she sighed heavily and lowered her head until she looked down at her lap. "I miss
her Buffy. She’s the love of my life and sometimes I miss her so much...it’s killing me inside," she admitted softly.
Buffy sat down on the bed next to her and took Willow’s hand in hers. "I know how you feel. When Riley left, I
was...it was like a part of me was missing and I thought I could never move on again with my life. But, you know,
a heart can be broken but it still keeps beating just the same."
Willow nodded and slowly got up, leaned against the window and enjoyed the sunlight on her face. "It’s just...not
that easy." Buffy moved next to her and put an arm around her shoulders. "Whatever you know happens...I’ll still
be here and I’ll always be your friend."
Willow turned and looked at her, after everything she had been through she thought she knew by now how
important such a friendship could be. She smiled at her best friend and leaned in close. They were now only a
breath away from each other’s lips and both unable to move. Buffy didn’t quite realize what was probably going
to happen. "Will..." she breathed audibly, her hands moved up to cup the redhead’s cheeks in them. Realization
hit Willow when Buffy mentioned her name and she quickly backed off; she blushed deeply and put as much
space between them as she could. "I’m...I’m sorry, I...did never mean to..." she stammered, still shocked from
what almost would have happened. "I....think I....need to be alone..."Buffy, still speechless eventually took the hint
and almost ran out of the room.
When Buffy was gone Willow tried to regain composure and to understand what just had happened. She asked
herself a question she had never dared to ask although it had been in her head for quite a long time now. Was
she attracted to Buffy? She wasn’t sure how to answer that question – Buffy had always just been her friend, her
best friend...she loved her, but it was different from her feelings for Tara. She had never been in love with her.
And besides it didn’t matter. She loved Tara, she would always love Tara, Tara was the other half of her soul,
they shared something that was unique, and no matter how fragile their connection had become now it would
always be there. Always. And that’s why I have to clear that mess I have created and get her back. As soon as
possible. She quickly made a decision, picked up the phone and dialed Tara’s number.
