Part 3
Her feet pounded the ground as she ran, her breathing quickened, as did her heart rate. She looked over her shoulder, her blue eyes lined with fear filled tears and her legs quivering with this sudden burst of energy. Something shuffled amongst the shadows of the tall trees that grew on the college campus and Tara had become its chosen target. She stared forward, focusing on the welcoming light of the dorms as she ran as fast as her weak legs could carry her.
Suddenly, a large figure jumped from the bushes blocking her only route to safety. She froze as fear took over her body, her brow crinkled and tears ran down her face as the demon hobbled closer, its strangely shaped silhouette towering over her. The normal thing to do would be to turn around and run like hell but Tara’s limbs had frozen, sticking to the ground like glue. The demon’s eyes were boring into hers and it could taste her terror in cool air around them. She started to edge backwards putting some distance between her and what she feared but still it came closer, long razor-sharp teeth visible, dripping with saliva.
Willow listened to her own footsteps crunch on the gravel as she strolled through the campus. She knew it wasn’t the best time or even best place to go for a walk but she enjoyed the cool night air and twinkling stars. Still her mind was filled with that blonde stranger but still she never grew tired of thinking of her. A smile grew on her face as she imagined those blue eyes shining as bright as the stars above her; happy laughter pouring out from those perfectly formed lips as she was embraced by warmth and softness. Again her imagination was running wild but Willow was still nervous. She scolded herself for being so stupid. “Why don’t I just go and introduce myself to her?” she whispered to herself. Of course she knew the answer but still with feelings this strong you’d think she’d be able to forget all insecurities and take the risk. She imagined what it would be like to actually talk to the blonde. What would she say? Would she be smooth, calm and sexy or a nervous babbling idiot? Willow knew that the latter of the two would be more accurate but that didn’t matter. She put her hand in her pocket, running her fingers over the smooth edges of the piece of paper. A small reminder of what she had to do.
As she strolled aimlessly the sound of someone running towards her echoed in her ears. Willow looked around nervously, the sound of pounding feet getting closer. Suddenly out of nowhere, something or someone crashed into her with a great force, causing her to collapse into a crumpled heap on the ground. She looked up, trying to see what had ran into her and was now lying on top of her. The moonlight was dim but her heart leapt when she saw long blonde hair, a familiar profile and deep blue eyes. She felt herself begin to drown in the pools before her but those eyes were filled with fear. A worried expression dawned Willows face as they both climbed to their feet. No words were said because Willow understood immediately, she could see the terror in those eyes and it hurt so much to see them like that.
A fresh wave of tears prickled behind Tara’s eyes, tears of joy and relief. Never in her life was she happier to someone than now, the fact that it was the redheaded girl that she was falling in love with made her heart pound so hard it bruised the inside of her ribs. Her mouth was too dry to speak so before she could explain anything to the other girl the demon had already arrived. She saw the expression on redheads face, a mixture of confusion and overwhelming fear. Without warning, the girl positioned herself between Tara and the demon. Her arms stretched forward as if she were going to attack, suddenly the beast swung its arm sending a confused and injured redhead flying across the path. A new feeling of rage bubbled deep within Tara, she turned to face the demon determined to make it pay for what it had done. She raised her arms high into the air and mumbled something under her breath causing white flashes to burst from her fingertips. These lightening bolts of energy hit the demon with so much strength that it whimpered in pain before retreating quickly.
Tara ran towards the redhead who lay on the ground injured. She kneeled next to her and placed her hand comfortingly on her arm, which instantly caused chills to run along her palm and up into the rest of her body. The injured girl rolled onto her back, a pained expression on her face and a trail of blood dripping from her nose. She brought her fingers to her wound and winced at the sight of her thick blood on her fingers. Then looked up at Tara, her eyes saying more than she ever could. They looked at each other like they had never meet but both girls knew that they had imagined this moment a thousand times in their own heads. Tara was first to speak, “Are you oookay?” she stammered, scolding herself for her stutter. Willow just stared, swimming in the velvety texture of the blondes voice, she thought it was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard.
“I’m okay. Thanks.” She said, the pain of her wound disappearing instantly at the sight of the blondes worried face.
“That nose bleed looks nnnasty. Let me lllook at for you.” Tara said with so much boldness that she surprised herself. Willow nodded shyly and obliged. She helped the redhead to stand up and held her around the waist much to the delight to both of them. Willow’s knees were weak for more than one reason but Tara’s strong arms provided good support and helped her to walk slowly towards Tara’s dorm room.
Tara opened the door to her room with her free hand, helping Willow over the threshold. Willow was immediately welcomed by candlelight and small twinklely fairy lights that resembled the stars outside. She felt safe in the arms of this nameless girl and at the same time excited that their bodies were so close together. The blonde sat Willow down gently on her bed and examined the extent of her injuries. Apart from the nosebleed, Willow had a small cut on her lip and eyebrow. Willow bathed in the attention of the blonde, she realised that she was staring longer than she should and a blush began to creep up the back of her neck eventually colouring her cheeks. Tara noticed the change in the colour of the redheads skin and also felt a matching blush emerging quickly. She stood up, much to the disappointment of Willow “I think that I’ve got sssomething for those cuts.” She said before retreating to the bathroom, still gazing at Willow. Willow was speech less for the first time in her life. Only a few hours ago she was in her room fantasying about this girl and now she was actually in her room, basking in her presence and much appreciated attention. Tara came into the room and returned to the bed, in her hands she had some cotton wool and some sort of antiseptic. She knelt down in front of Willow, pouring the colourless liquid onto the white balls of cotton wool. She lifted her hand to Willows face, she was in complete awe of the beauty that lay before her. The whole time that they had been together they had rarely stopped falling into each other’s eyes, neither realising that they were staring so intently at each other. Tara carefully brought the cotton wool up to Willows upper lip, cautiously she began to clean the blood from under her nose, not wanting to hurt her. Surprisingly Willow didn’t wince but continued to look at Tara’s face, the candlelight complementing her soft curves beautifully. Tara picked up a clean cotton ball and began give the small cut on Willow lip some attention, before she touched her lip she realised that she still didn’t know this stunning girls name. “ Your ppprobably wondering…my name’s Tara.” A huge grin grew on Willow’s face, she immediately fell in love with her name.
“I’m Willow.” She said, an embarrassed smile replacing her grin. Tara gave Willow a lopsided grin which made Willow’s heart swell with love. They continued to smile at each other in a comfortable silence. Tara glanced down at her hands in shyness, she looked up and brought her hand to Willow’s lip. She touched the small cut with tenderness and care, Willow flinched in discomfort, the antiseptic making her open cut sting.
“SSSorry.” Tara said guiltily.
“ It’s okay, really. I want to say thank you. For you know, saving my life.” Willow said with real sincerity because it was true in more ways than one.
“No it was you who saved me from that…thing.” she replied, staring into those bottomless emerald green eyes, as she attended the scratch near Willow’s left eyebrow. Willow shook her head shyly because she couldn’t think of anything to say, her insides where dancing with happiness. She could feel Tara’s warm breath on her cheeks, their bodies separated by a few inches of air and goose bumps were emerging all over her skin. This was the best night of her life.
Don't look at me, I have nothing funny to say
