Q: How do I add an avatar to my profile?

A: Go to the My Control Center link at the top of the forum >

Select Edit Profile >

Check the Use Personal Photo box >

Enter the URL of your Personal Photo >

Save Changes



Q: What is a hot link?

A: A hotlink is when you use the image tag to link a picture within your post or profile.



Q: Can I have an animated Gif as an avatar?

A: Yes



Q: Where is a good place to host my avatar?

A: 50megs.com allows hotlinking, many sites such as Yahoo

and other free webspaces, however, do not.



Q: Can I do a save image as on someone else's avatar?

A: No, this is considered stealing an avatar. Do not take avatars unless they are posted in this thread but that does not include avatars underneath people's names.



Q: Where can I get images or avatars?

Hi Rally, OOO, first reply....I've got Yahoo, briefcase...altho' its a bit problematic. Would an avatar there be picked up here...? I've been using PC's for years, but I'm still bloody useless [does anyone here remember FORTRAN? ]

Yahoo does something with the photos it stores, that blocks hot linking of photos. I would suggest getting an account, at either 50megs.com or Spaceports.com. They offer free website with restricted bandwidth. But they should be sufficient for hosting of avatars.



Xita and I are working on a couple mirror sites for the avatars I have up that folks can hot link to, stayed tuned for details.

Just a word.



A lot of home ISPs with web space also prohibit the use of hot linking pictures. I know that AT&T (ATTBI) is one of them. I tried.



Others that you can't use. NBCi, Yahoo-GeoCities & Tripod.

Well, I spent the last hour hunting for webspace for my avatar (stupid geocities, grrr), and since I now have a whole accont with nothing on it - if anyone needs a space for their avatar, I can host it for you... (Assuming I will make mine work!)

Question about the old avatar's that were used.



You know the ones that showed if you was a "blessed wannabe" comparative to a "cool monster fighter"?



Is there someplace i could snag those avatar's and save them to my site to load for when i move up the chain again?



If not, no problem, i was just likeing those and it was something I was looking forward to when getting a new ranking is all.

how do you make the pictures go flippy?

cos i got the pics for the flippy.. got the webspace for the flippy .. just need to know how to make it flip.. someone tell me how to make it flip? i would like it to flip..



oh and puffles, i would just go inot paint of photoshop or whatever and shrink the pic to 60pix. or theres this other way in html but i dunno..i'm sure theres some other ways of doing it, but i know as much about computers as i do about the mating habits of a macaw.

Dream, I'm not sure spaceports is cool with the hotlinking since I tried that too and I couldn't get my avatar to work. Or else I'm just doing something wrong!

I now have an account with free webspace and I've worked out how to crop pictures properly, so I will work on converting some of the W and T pictures on my hard drive to usable avatars. Might take a few days, though.

Thanks Tyche, I managed to get an account at 50meg.com, but I'm unsure as to use the bloody thing. If I prepare some thumbs/avatars and zip em, can I email them to you, or vice-versa, once I get my site up?

well, I never had any problems with hotlinking, but the provider is my phone company, and its german.. and you need to live in Germany also, because they send you some information and registration stuff/letters. German Kittens should try Arcor.de



but as I hardly ever use my webspace I would be glad to help some of you out and host your avatars.

you need a gif animator, & you just put in as many pics as you want to flip. I've got microsoft gif animator, but don't know where I got it from



if you put gif animator freeware in google it brings up a load, but I don't know if any/all of them are any good.
