Amber Interview in The Birmingham News

Anything about Willow & Tara, Alyson Hannigan and Amber Benson.

Re: Amber alert in Birmingham

I want to die. I just read the article and............can you immagine how I hate Joss????!! Bastard!

But maybe it's better than Amber go away from this stupid man. She's a fantastic actress and a sweety person who deserve more than "your shirt".

I lose all my hope. All. It's sound really as "that's the end".

No more Willow & Tara fuzzies........... :cry

Why they don't tell us? Why they only want that we are in pain?

Most likely they want to keep that last little flicker of hope alive so that we'll keep watching the show. But it's most likely a charade. Just ask the Angel fans who are still waiting for Doyle to make a return appearance.

Thanks for the links :)

I liked this article, makes things even more clear than they were.

So that is that, primetime TV's most prevalent lesbian relationship coming to a violent end

I'd just replace most by only, but that aside, yup, that about sums it up, and when put like that it just does not sound like it was such an great exciting equal opportunity idea now does it?

She still hasn't watched the episode in which Tara dies and has no plans to do it.

Oh so at least I am very good company then, although I must confess I've watched the tongue slippage.

I really hope she's not coming back, because

1) She's too good for Joss and his merry band of Liars

2) We won't have to listen to all those people say "See you got all upset over nothing"

3) There will be no tempation for me to even THINK about watching spuffy next season.

Go Amber. Good luck in the future.

Bring it on FireFly 'cuz I'm a big can of Raid

Just catching up this morning. I agree with most kittens.

Again, Amber is just so professional and articulate whenever she is interviewed.

I think it's great that Amber is moving on. I expect her to do great things and I definitely will follow her career.

She's really too good for M.E. they took her for granted and disregard for the importance of her character.

But I think if Joss or Marti ask her back for a few shows that she'd probably do it. And, I also agree that I like to hang on to any little glimmer of hope that Tara may be back.

But I don't trust M.E. with Tara (the kittens treat her with much more respect on "Pens" thank goodness) and I'd rather just close the chapter on BtVS.

I want Season 7 to fail so miserably. It's not so much bitterness as just sadness and immense disappointment.

Again thanks to mods and all kittens for being here and understanding.

EP/Janice - I think that you answered your own question about BAPS and that was a nice tribute that you found.

Well...

I might be the only one left on Earth who feels this way, but I'm not giving up all hope yet. Hope can be self-defeating, but I have a kind of cruise-control auto-hope that kinda ticks away inside, and doesn't consume me with belief. So I'm sticking with that for now.

Why? Well, because none of this stuff is, to me, really cast in stone. Maybe Amber needs a break, and will take a break, and will do other cool stuff for a while. But if she got the call again, would she say no? Maybe Chance, or her next project (whatever that may be) won't do anywhere near as much for her career as another stint on Buffy would. She is a big name to us, but her profile is still smaller than even Eliza Dushku's at the moment. Yet Faith is set to return again after a fairly long break.

Yes, Faith was only in Jail, whilst Tara was killed.

But Buffy's a fantasy show of a most flexible kind! Jeez, Willow, make up the spell to beat all spells, and do the impossible! :) There must be a hundred people on this board alone who could write a reasonable enough script to do the trick, if they really had a go.

And even if Tara never became a regular character again, maybe there is some way for the story of Willow and Tara to be given proper closure, that at least would be better than the way things are now. So if I was only given those two choices, then I'd gladly swallow my overall anger, and choose "proper closure". At the end of the day, not many TV show characters ever get proper closure.

Another thing I wanted to say was - let's keep reminding ME, each in our own little way, how thoroughly stupid it was to kill Tara. Whether it's a website, a banner exchange, occasional hate mail, whatever. Don't do it if it makes you permanently upset. As I read through the posts here, I really feel for a lot of Kittens :(

But if it's no stress for you, and it's economical for you, then I say keep it up. Because heaven knows, we fans can drive people nuts! :) And there are countless cases in history where fans have pestered the cause of their fandom to the point where they do make a difference.

Lastly...

Imagine, for a moment, a hypothetical world where every Buffy fan was completely enraged and disgusted by Tara's death. I don't for a second believe that Joss would simply say "Well! What's done is done! We can't reverse it now!". He would effectively be choosing between writing a much loved character back into his show against the odds, or his entire show and his career as a "successful" TV show creator.

So at the extreme end of the spectrum, you see, Tara would be rushed back in, with a contract.

At the other end of the spectrum, her chapter would be closed and no-one complain or care.

Where we are at the moment is bobbing around somewhere in the vast sea between those two extremes. We DO care, and people are talking. And ME are well aware of the public outcry. And shit, I'll be the first to say that's an achievement for a bunch of humble fans.

So for me, the scenario where Joss chooses between Tara or his entire show, is something I will at least continue to aspire to ;) Call me stupid. But what's life without a big, fat goal or two?

hugs,

Sarah-B.

PS. I don't post here often, but I just wanted to say you guys really rock around here :)

Sorry for the late follow-up, but I read earlier in this thread that people were surprised Amber would talk about portraying a lesbian in a hometown paper like the B'Ham News... and I thought I'd add this to the mix:

The Birmingham News is one of the most historically conservative papers in the South.

So way to go Amber!

And as for Sidewalk, I've been a volunteer there before and I'll be damned if I miss out this year... I'm only an hour and a half away (Auburn) and if need be, I'll get press passes! Hooray! (I love being the managing editor at The Auburn Plainsman!)

The Plainsman and Amber

Postby bowieinberlin » Fri Jul 26, 2002 1:37 pm

Well, I always try to get Buffy in the paper when it allows... For our 1999 fall TV preview I wrote a column called "Buffy's not as bad as you think." And last summer I tried my damndest to get the film society to host a screening of "Chance" (that would be accompanied by a front-page Amber Q&A), but the timing wasn't right... There's a front-page spot waiting for Amber, though. Whenever something cool happens nearby, I try to get a front page (Lewis Black, anarchist puppet shows, local bands, etc.).

Actually the A&E editor and I plan to do a big spread for Sidewalk, and we're both pissed we missed TorontoTrek... we really wanted to split bylines in a Virginia Hey and Amber story (she's a Farscape geek, and me... well... you know)

As for season 6 being a "debacle," I'm not sure I share those exact sentiments, but it would take a HUGE post for me to explain. Of course, ME never should have killed Tara!

I think Amber deserves three cheers because 1) she's moving on, 2) she talked about lesbians in a conservative paper, and 3) she was eating a totally delish salad. Tomatos, mozarella and basil. Um, yum?

That girl is rad.
