First Fic: "I Would Give Anything"

Postby willowsfrogfear » Wed Jul 02, 2003 9:23 am

Chapter 1

Title: I Would Give Anything

Rating: PG for now

Pairing: W/T

Setting: Sometime after Wrecked

A little Angst, some humor, and of course Romance

Spoilers: Wrecked, Lover’s Walk, New Moon Rising, Doublegangland, Something Blue

Disclaimer: I’m not Joss, none of this belongs to me.

Music Disclaimer: All lyrics are from Boy George and Culture Club.

Summery: Although I love the Entropy make up scene, this is just my take on another possible way they got back together. Who knew Tara was a closet Boy George fan. Culture Club comes to Sunnydale for a concert at the Bronze. Willow gives Tara an innocent gift with an unexpected reaction. (Oh, Larry didn’t die at Graduation.)

Feedback: Yes, please.

Part 1

It was unusual but it happened. This sunny Tuesday morning Willow actually woke up in a good mood with the even stranger feeling that today was going to be a good day.

Willow stood on the front porch of the Summer’s house with a freshly poured cup of coffee enjoying the warm feeling of the sun hitting her face. She quickly became wrapped in her thoughts. Goddess, I’ve missed this feeling. Actually enjoying the sun, a morning without the shakes, fresh coffee, well, it’s not a mocha but it’ll do.

Just as easily as Willow feel into her thoughts, she was abruptly brought out. “OW, what in the frilly heck!” “Oh, sorry Miss, didn’t see you there.” Willow looked up to see the paperboy slowly passing on his bicycle. “Watch where you throw those things,” she screamed at the boy. “Sorry!” He yelled back as he disappeared down the sidewalk. Well, that was bracing, she thought as she picked up the paper and hurried back inside before any other piece of flying literature could target her head.

As she entered, Buffy came thumping down the stairs. “Hey Will!”

“Hey, word of warning. If you’re going to stand on the front porch, wear a helmet.”

“Huh?”

“Nothing, I was just attacked by the paperboy.”

“The paperboy’s evil?”

“In a manner of speaking, yeah. He decided to use me as target practice.” Saying this Willow wildly shook the paper in front of her.

“Oh, ok, not earth shattering…” The blonde strode off to the kitchen with Willow on her heels.

“No, but skull shattering!”

“Sorry. So, you’re up early, feelin ok?” Buffy was trying not to giggle at the red heads grumpiness.

Will plopped down on one of the stools next to the island. “Yeah actually. I feel great, kinda strange. I mean I don’t feel strange, but me actually feeling good feels strange. So I guess that means I am feeling strange, but not in a bad way, more like… What?”

Buffy was smiling and starting to giggle. “Nothing, It’s just you.” Buffy felt a relief she hadn't felt in a long time. Will was babbling and showing a peppy optimism she was afraid was lost. “I’m just glad to see you coming out.”

Willow narrowed her eyes in confusion, “Um, Buffy, I…”

“Oh, no, I mean start coming out of sadness. It’s great to see the old Will showing through, complete with the babble.”

She blushed, “Oh.”

“Thanks, I’m going to need to know my bestest bud’s getting back in the action. I must face the inevitable.”

“Oh my Gosh, today’s…”

“Yep, Double Meat double shift.”

“Yikes! Well on that note, I’m going upstairs and see if I can read this paper without further injury. Oh, unless you want to look at it.”

“No, you go ahead, I’ve got to start getting ready.”

“Ok, then.” With that, Willow left the kitchen and trotted up the stairs.

------------------------------------------------------------

Tara was up and ready but she honestly couldn’t think what she was ready for. She had no classes today, she had finally managed to unpack the rest of her things, and there was really only one thing she needed to do today but truthfully, she didn’t know if she could bring herself to it. Goddess, pull it together Tara, it’s just a phone call.

She finally mustered the strength to dial the number. The phone had rung several times and she was about to hand up when she heard Buffy’s voice.

“Hello?”

Thank Goddess it’s not Willow. “Hey Buffy.”

“Oh, Tara, hey. Want me to get Will, she’s right…”

“NO! I mean, no. I wanted to talk to you actually.”

“Oh, what’s up?”

“Well, um, I was wondering if you knew what she was doing today.”

“Who? Willow? Besides being hit by the paper boy...”

“The paperboy was hitting on her?”

Buffy started to giggle. “No he hit her with the paper this morning, it was hilarious.”

“Is she ok?”

“Of course, it’s Sunnydale. The paper can’t be weighed down with too many happenings.”

“Yeah, I guess.”

Buffy realized by Tara’s tone of voice that she wasn’t too comfortable talking about Willow. “So, anyway, you wanted to know what Will’s up to today?”

“Oh, yeah. Well the truth is I needed to drop by the magic shop for some stuff and Anya wants to talk about dresses for the wedding and I just thought I might be a little difficult if we ran into each other and…”

“Tara, Will doesn’t go there anymore, only if she’s with one of us. Even then she doesn’t like to. To tell you the truth I don’t think it’s really even about the cravings.”

“Oh!” Buffy could tell Tara was trying to hide it but she could hear the glint of hope in the girl’s voice. “Um, ok then. So, how’s Dawn?”

Feeling Tara’s need to change the subject, she complied. “Fine, she’s at school, only I think she’s trying to use the broken arm as an excuse to get out of it. But the cast comes off next week so she can’t pull that one on me anymore.”

“Well I better get going. Say hello to Dawn for me and tell her she should know better than to make excuses, schools very important.”

“Yeah, Will would be the first to… Ok, talk to you later. And Tara?”

“Y-Yes?”

“We love you.”

Before Tara could say anything Buffy had hung up. Her fears were slightly eased by the comfort of not running into Willow so she decided to head towards the Magic Box.

------------------------------------------------------------

Willow sat Indian style on her bed reading one of the front-page articles of the paper. ‘Boy found murdered in Sunnydale park: Massive neck trauma.’ She looked up as she heard Buffy walking past her door. “Buffy?”

“Yeah?”

“Ya might have a fresh grave to check out.”

“Greg Mason?”

Willow looked down at the article, checking the name. “Um, yeah.”

“Got him on patrol last night, no worries.”

“Oh, just checking. Who was on the phone?”

“Um,” Buffy hated to lie to Willow but she didn’t want to wreck to girls good mood. “My boss, wanted to make sure I knew I had the double shift.”

“Oh, you better get going then, you’ll be late.”

“I know, I know…” Willow could hear the blonde mumbling as she continued down the hall. She brought her attention back to the paper and began flipping through the pages. Her eyes shot open as she saw the full-page ad: ‘This Sunday, Boy George and the Culture Club at Sunnydale’s Bronze. Limited admittance. Ticket’s $75. Call during club hours or register on the website.’

Tara would love this. The girls face quickly fell. All the pain of the past months came flooding back to her but there was a certain calm to it. We may not be together but I’m not going to let Tara miss this for the world. She began to reach for the phone but stopped realizing the Bronze was closed. Damn! Oh well I’ll just… Great. Anya has my laptop. The previous Sunday Anya asked to borrow Willow’s laptop to update the Magic Box website. Willow was hesitant but had rather give in than listen to one of Anya’s “Are you trying to deny me my profits” lectures. Willow hated to admit it but the ex-demon could be trusted with a computer, especially when it came to buying or selling. So she reached for the phone again, dialing the Magic Box.

“Magic Box, Anya speaking, I’d appreciate your money.”

Willow sighed. “Anya, what have we told you about that, you’re not going to gain any customers answering the phone like that.”

“Who is this? I don’t appreciate prank calls. You’re taking up my time and profits.”

“Anya, it’s Willow, let’s just forget your inadequate phone skills for a minute. I need a favor.”

“Listen missy, I don’t care who you… Oh, Willow. I don’t care, your still taking up…”

“ANYA! PLEASE!”

“Are you ok? You’re not all black eyed are you?”

Willow was taken back. Somewhere in there she heard actually concern. “No, I’m fine. I just need you to do me a favor.”

“And why should I do YOU a favor?”

That didn’t last long. “It involves money.”

“Oh, ok. How can I help you?”

Knew that would get her attention. “Boy George is coming to town and I need you to get on my lap top and look up…”

“Hey Tara!” She heard Anya declare. She was going to tell Anya she’d call back but stopped when she heard Tara’s voice.

“H-Hi. I need to look for a few things. We can talk when you get done.”

“Sure Tara. Ok, Willow. What are you going on about and how does this involve money.” Tara’s head shot up. She’s talking to Willow. Oh, Goddess, Will. No, I’m here to talk about dresses.

Willow couldn’t think of anything to say except, “Tara’s there?” “No, it’s a side affect of that disease you say I have, tarets isn’t it? Willow, are you there?”

“Um, yeah. Listen, could you call me back when she leaves. It’s important.”

“Well it better be, fine, I’ll call you back.” Anya hung up and walked over to the traditional Scooby research table joining Tara. “I swear, that girl of yours get crazier everyday.”

Girl of mine? “What did she want, is she alright?”

“Well she was talking so fast, but if I heard right… I don’t want to upset you.”

Oh Goddess, Buffy said she was fine an hour ago. “W-what is it?”

Anya sighed deeply. “Well she was very excited about some guy.”

“A g-guy?”

“Yes, someone named George. I think she wanted me to look him up on the computer, but honestly I don’t see what a guy has to do with money.”

“M-money?”

“You don’t know either huh? Unless he’s a stripper. Xander and I have often pretended he was a stripper and I would put money in his underwear.”

Tara sat there in shock and disgust. As much as she loved Xander she didn’t want these mental images. So between that and Willow’s mystery George person she quickly changed the subject. ”Um, Anya, didn’t you want to talk about the wedding.”

“Oh, yes. So I’ve been looking at these catalogs…” Tara managed to stay somewhat interested in the conversation long enough for Anya to tell her everything she needed to know about what she was going to be wearing on the big day. When they had finished Tara quickly shuffle out of the store, lost in her jealous thoughts.

------------------------------------------------------------

Willow hadn’t moved from the phone. When Buffy had come in to say goodbye she’d barley looked up. It’s almost been an hour. How long can two people possibly talk about clothes? Then, almost as if on cue, the phone rang. “Anya?”

“Yes. Now what were you babbling about?”

“Ok, here’s what I need you to do…”

I love how you captured the, uh, bubbliness of the Scoobies (I couldn't think of any other word for it). The misunderstandings, especially involving the paper-boy, are very giggle-worthy. I can't wait to see where you're taking this. Great start!

Hey, WFF (Hope the shorthand's OK.) This is a great premise for a story. I especially like your touches with humor, and the way that tiny changes in phrasing can totally change the meaning of a sentence; e.g., Willow hitting on the paperboy.

This is off to a great start--I'm looking forward to more!

Oh god, 2 of my favorite things ever, w/t and Boy George !! hee. What a great , funny idea. I like the time setting and the fact that they are apart but that Willow is trying to do something for Tara. Also Anya being her funny self managed to get Tara jealous and at this point any emotion is a good thing! Looking forward to the updates.

Ok, people. First of all, thanks for the kind feedback. Second, I've decided to be evil and make only one update a day.:devilish

------------------------------------------------------------

Chapter 2

(A couple of days later)

Tara opened her mailbox only to find one piece of mail. As she look she noticed there was no return address and hers had been typed on the envelope. Expecting to find a business letter of some sort, she was surprised that it was actually a piece of notebook paper. Her breath caught, she immediately recognized the handwriting.

Tara,

Sorry about the no return address. I guess I was afraid you wouldn’t read this if you knew who it was from. But don’t worry, this isn’t a pleading letter. By now you’ve probably found the ticket. If you haven’t looked at it please do so. Even though things are the way they are, I couldn’t resist. You deserve to have some fun and that’s’ all I want. To see you happy. I understand what you think this gift might mean but it’s far from it. Please accept this knowing that I expect nothing more that for you to go and have a good time.

Willow

Tara was fighting back tears. She hadn’t done as instructed and looked at the ticket. When she did, her mouth dropped. In her hand she was holding a concert ticket and a backstage pass. She also felt a great weight lift off her hear. So that’s the guy she was so excited about. I can’t believe she remembered. Why do people always remember the things you find most embarrassing? She thought back to when Willow first found out her secret.

------------------------------------------------------------

(Two ½ years ago, Tara’s dorm room)

Tara sat in aw. “She looked exactly like you?”

“Yeah, all skanky with the leather outfit and she had this thing about licking people’s necks. I still wig when I think about it.”

“Wow, so that’s your most embarrassing moment huh?”

“Yeah. What about you, got any freaky secret’s you wanna tell me?”

“Well, I do. But if I tell you, you can never bring it up again. Ok?”

“Promise. So spill?”

“Well, um, I, you see I…” Tara took one of the deepest breaths she’s ever taken. “I’maBoyGoergefanatic.”

“What?”

“You know, I’maCultureClubfan.”

“Tara, slow down”

“I’m a Boy George fanatic.”

Willow giggled. “Oh!”

“Don’t laugh and don’t ever say anything about it again.”

“Oh, no. Tara. I wasn’t laughing at you, I just don’t see what’s so embarrassing about it.”

“Well people always made fun of me. I’d wear these Culture Club shirts and they’d tease me.” Tara looked down letting her hair fall around her face.

Willow didn’t know why at the time, but for some reason the thought of anyone picking on this remarkable girl make her blood boil. Willow slowly reached up and tucked the blonde’s hair behind her ear. “Tara? Hey, look at me. I don’t see one thing about you that’s worth making fun of. Besides, I’ve been there too, you should have seen me in my Hanson stage.”

Both girls burst into laughter.

------------------------------------------------------------

Tara found herself smiling deeply at the memory and at Willow’s present gesture. But she knew it really wasn’t a gesture, it wasn’t some sort of bribe. Willow was doing this for one reason and one reason only. She wanted her to be happy. In this moment Tara knew, all the reason’s she feel in love with Willow in the first place were embodied in this letter.

------------------------------------------------------------

(Late Saturday night)

Buffy was exhausted. Five vamps and a not so pleasant smelling demon left her dragging herself up the steps to her back porch. She was inches away from the door when her slayer hearing picked up a very excited Willow voice. “Goddess I can’t thank you enough. So, since you’ll be in town I’ll see you tomorrow… Ok, then. Bye.” Hearing that Willow had hung up the phone she decided to walk on it. “Hey Will. Who ya talking to?”

“Um, no one, why would you think I was talking to someone.”

Buffy’s eyes narrowed. Before she was just curious as to who was on the phone but Willow was a terrible liar. “Will, what’s up with you? Who was on the phone?”

“I told you, nobody.” Out of the corner of her eye she caught the redhead’s hand sneaking towards the address book on the counter. She quickly grabbed it, holding in from Willow’s grasp. “Buffy, give me that. Please!” Seeing no point in trying to wrestle a Slayer Willow backed up against the kitchen counter waiting for Buffy’s reaction. She looked at the page; there was only one name in the ‘O’ section. ‘Osborne, Daniel’ She turned to look at Willow who stood there biting her bottom lip. “That was Oz on the phone?”

“Yes. Just, please, don’t tell Tara.”

“Will, what’s going on? And why would I tell Tara?”

“Oh.” Willow sighed in relief. “I thought that you might think that…”

Buffy shook her head realizing what Willow meant. “Willow, please. Like anyone would think you could ever go back to guyville. It’s so obvious.”

Willow stood up straight, a little offended. “I’m obvious!” She asked coldly.

“Calm down. That’s not what I meant. I’m saying it’s OBVIOUS that you’re in love with Tara. Hell, I don’t think you could even go looking around in girlsville.”

“I know I couldn’t. She’s the one.”

Buffy could hear the pain in the girls voice and quickly moved to her, bringing her into a hug. “It’ll be ok Will. Now why don’t you tell me what’s going on.”

They both moved to the living room and sat on the couch. Willow began to explain what she was doing for Tara and how Oz was going to help. Since Oz left, for the second time, he’d been traveling with bands and doing a lot of roadie work for major concerts. He’d become quite credible in the music industry. Willow knew he had connections and knew he would be able to get Tara back stage and into the band’s after party. But she was surprised to find out that he was going to be there anyway. When the tour had started he jumped on board when he found out it would be making a stop in Sunndydale.

“Wow, so Oz is coming back. It’ll be great to see him. Are you gonna be ok with that? Ya know, seeing Oz again?” Buffy was excited about seeing Oz but was concerned with how Willow would take it. Especially now, with her and Tara being apart.

“Oh sure, I’ll be fine. We’ve talked a few times since he left. He’s come to grips with the idea of Tara and um…” Willow stopped and turned bright read remembering one of their past conversations.

“What? What did you two talk about?”

“Nothing, we just talked, that’s all.”

“Come on Will. Your face is the same color of your hair. What gives?”

“Well, apparently he’d become quite intrigued by the idea and our talks kinda led into a boy’s locker room type conversation.”

“Oh my God, you didn’t?”

“I couldn’t help it. It was nice, you know. Being able to talk about girls with somebody. I mean, I could talk to Xander but then I’d have to look at him everyday and I really wouldn’t want him to start asking Tara questions about it. But of course he was being sensitive Oz so we talked a lot about love and feelings.”

“Yeah, I know what you mean. Does Tara know you’ve talked to him before?”

“Yeah. She doesn’t know we talked about her but she knows.”

Buffy’s eye widened as came to a realization. “What if Tara sees Oz there. Their last meeting wasn’t exactly non eventful.”

“I know, I’m going to be there. She doesn’t know and I don’t want her to see me. I know that sounds a little stalkerish, but I just want to see her face. Goddess Buffy, I’d give anything to see her smile again.” Willow wiped a falling tear from her check. “I just want to see her happy, you know, enjoying herself. But she shouldn’t see him anyway, he’ll be backstage.”

“Well, I’ll say it again. OBVIOUS. I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I’m going to tell you something Spike told me once. It’s sounds fitting for the situation.”

“Spike? You’re going to quote Spike. When could he have possibly said anything of value?”

“It was the night when he kidnapped you and Xander.”

“This ought to be good.” Willow huffed and leaned back into the couch.

“Just listen. He said that he may be love’s bitch but at least he’s was man enough to admit.”

Willow couldn’t suppress her giggle. “I guess you’re right. In a strange, morbid way, but right. Um Buffy, could you do me a favor?”

“Sure.”

“Tomorrow night, could you walk Tara to the Bronze. It’ll be dark and I don’t want her out there alone.”

“Sure thing. Listen, I hate to leave you but I’m really starting to feel that fight. Are you going to be ok?”

“Yes, I’ll be fine. Go. You’ve filled your best friend quota for the night. Thanks Buffy.”

“You’re welcome. Night Will.”

“Night.”

Once again, thanks for the feedback. Ok, here's the next part.

It's a small update but enjoy!

Chapter 2

(Sunday afternoon)

After rummaging through her closet and making quite a mess. Tara finally found one of her old Culture Club tee shirts. She pulled it over her head and looked in the mirror. It’s a little tight but it’ll stretch. The Bronze is kinda dark anyway. She jumped when she heard a knock at the door. “Who is it?”

“Police, open up!”

Police? Tara rushed to the door, opening it quickly only to find Buffy standing there with an innocent smirk on her face. “Buffy! Don’t do that, you scared me.”

“Sorry, couldn’t resist. So, you ready?”

“Ready?”

“Yep. I’m your armed escort. Will didn’t want you walking alone.”

“Oh, ok. Thanks. Yeah, just a sec. Why don’t you come in.”

Buffy walked in shutting the door behind her. She couldn’t help but notice all the clothes strung out in the floor. “Couldn’t decide what to wear huh?”

“What? Oh, yeah. I was looking for a certain shirt.”

Buffy grinned as she noticed the shirt Tara had on. “I wouldn’t happen to be the shirt you’re wearing would it? Cuz I gotta say, stylin!”

“Um, yeah actually. It just seemed fitting. Although it really doesn’t. Kinda tight but anyway, I’m ready.”

“Great, let’s motor.”

------------------------------------------------------------

Willow made her way to the front of the crowd at the Bronze door, tripping and almost falling into the bouncer.

“Can I help you Miss?”

“Sorry about that. Um yeah, I’m Willow Rosenberg I’m supposed…”

“Willow?” The bouncer shot back in a sudden high-pitched voice. Willow squinted briefly before realizing who she was talking too. “L-larry?”

“Yes! Oh my God girl, look at you. All grown up, you look great Sweetie.”

“So do you, it’s been awhile, not since…”

“Graduation. Well listen, let’s go inside. Jeff, could you take the door. Come on Miss Thing, tell me what you’ve been up to. Miss Priss does’t tell me anything.”

As they entered they headed strait for the bar where she ordered a water. “So Larry, I have to ask, ‘Miss Priss’?” Just as he began to answer she took a drink. “Oh, Oz.” He quipped nonchalantly. Willow’s eyes bulged and she spit all the water out of her mouth.

“WHAT?”

“Oz. Anytime he hears from home he doesn’t…” He quickly realized that Willow had no idea. “Oops! Um Sweetie, maybe you should go find Oz before I really stick my foot in it.”

She starred blankly finally able nod and started to walk towards the back stage area. As she turned the corner she saw the unmistakable red hair but was even more shocked when the rest of his body came into view. There was Oz in leather pants and a lime green mesh shirt. “Um, hey.” Was all she could get out. “Will? Hey…” He stopped when he saw the look on her face. “Willow? You ok?”

“Um, well, I, how, what. Is there something you want to tell me?”

He quickly realized what she was asking. “I guess you ran into Larry huh?”

“Well, yeah. Literally actually, but what…”

“Will, I can explain. It’s just that…”

“DANIEL OSBORNE, WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!”

Oz literally jumped back and smiled nervously as several people started to look towards him. “I think we need to talk. Come on, let’s go find Larry and I’ll explain everything. I promise.”

Willow followed him closely back to the bar where they all three sat and where Oz explained.

------------------------------------------------------------

Tara and Buffy were about two blocks from the Bronze when Buffy finally got up the nerve to give her Willow’s message. “Um Tara. Willow wanted me to tell you that she hopes you have a good time and to say thank you.”

“For w-what?”

“For accepting the tickets.”

“Oh, well, I should have thanked her in person but, well, it’s complicated.”

“I know, just go and have a good a time, that’s all she wants.”

“Me too, I mean, for her that is. Buffy?”

“Yeah.”

“Did I do the right thing? I mean, I left, Dawn was hurt and Willow’s in so much pain. And…”

“Tara listen to me. You did the right thing. When someone has a problem like Willow’s the only thing that can truly turn them around is to hit rock bottom. When you left she… Willow couldn’t have gotten as far as she has if you hadn’t left. At first it was all about getting you back but now she actually cares about herself. I don’t think it’s about getting you back anymore. I think she just wants you to be proud of her. I know I am. God, standing up to Amy like that…”

“Amy?”

“Yeah, it was bad.”

“What happened?”

“You don’t know? I was sure Anya would have to you. Well…”

------------------------------------------------------------

(A month earlier)

Buffy stood outside the Magic Box trying to coax Willow into coming inside with her. “Will, it’ll be ok. I’m with you and I just need to talk to Anya for a sec.”

“Buffy I just don’t feel like going in there.”

“No, you’re coming with me. I don’t want you standing out here at night. No more arguments.”

Willow sighed. “Ok. Let’s just hurry.”

“Fine, now come on.”

As they entered they heard Anya screaming. “I’m telling you. I don’t know where she is. So leave.”

They looked to see Anya and Amy almost nose-to-nose screaming at each other. Buffy marched towards them leaving Willow standing by the steps. As Buffy pulled Amy back she took Anya’s place in her face. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

“Oh. Hey Buffy. I was just asking for Willow but she’s right there so I’ll just go talk to her.” Amy attempted to walk away only to have Buffy yank her back. “I don’t think so little miss Hecate.”

“No Buffy, it’s ok. Let her talk.” Willow walked closer as she continued to speak. “I’m here Amy, what do you have to say to me.”

Amy glanced briefly and Buffy then walked towards Willow. “I um, was just checking up on you. You know, see how you were doing with the whole no magic thing.”

“I’m fine. Thanks for your concern but truthfully there’s something I need to say. Amy, I’ve lost so much because of magic, actually I lost it all. And the most important thing I’m never getting back. You’re at the breaking point, you’re on the edge of losing everything, possibly your life. You still have a choice. Don’t make my mistake.”

Both Buffy and Anya were a little taken back by Willow’s boldness and couldn’t help notice Amy becoming increasingly angry. “You’re judging me?” Amy spat. “You’ve got a lot of nerve little girl.”

“Yeah. I finally do.” Willow said with great confidence.

“This is about her isn’t it? Can’t you see what she’s doing? She’s jealous. She’ll never have as much power as you and it’s killing her.”

“Don’t you dare bring her into this!” Willows fists were clinched. She was barely hanging onto her control.

“Face it Willow. That blonde bitch’s got you wrapped around her finger.”

Before any of them knew what had happened Amy was laid out on the floor holding her jaw with Willow standing above her. “Amy, I’m going to give you some advice and you better pray to the Goddess that you follow it. Stay away from me. Stay away from my friends. And if you even look at Tara let alone go near her you’ll be begging to be back in that cage. Get out of here.”

Willow stood back and Amy scrabbled to her feet, running out the door. Willow turned to see two jaw dropped faces looking at her. “What?”

“I, um, well…” Buffy could only stammer. Anya finally spoke, “Jeez Willow. No wonder D’Hoffrin offered you my old job.”

“Nobody messes with my girl.”

------------------------------------------------------------

“She really hit her?” Tara was still a bit in shock.

“Oh yeah. Must’ve hurt too. Ok, we’re here. Hope you have a good time.”

“Thanks for walking me Buffy. Could you thank Willow for me, you know, for tonight?”

“Sure thing. Have a great time!” Buffy turned and began to walk back down the alley with a knowing grin on her face.

I'm loving this. The way you're writing the characters is spot on. (And your Anya is hilarious.)

Willow remembering Tara's Boy George thing and getting her that ticket is beautiful. So perfectly Willow.

Tara worrying about Willow. sigh :heart

Oz is gay now? Lime green mesh shirt? :lol Go, Oz.

I look forward to seeing where you go with this.

Tara: It's not really so much about hating the men

Willow: We're more centered around the girl on girl action

All right kittens, here's the next part. Hope you enjoy.

------------------------------------------------------------

Tara made her way to the door with the rest of the crowd that were relieved to finally be let it. As Jeff checked her ticked noticed the pass handing around her neck. “Ah, you must be Miss MaClay.”

“How d-did you k-know?”

“Oh, there was only once back stage pass given out so I naturally…”

“Only o-one?”

“Yeah. You must have some connections to get that. Anyway, go on in. Have a nice time.”

“I w-will.” Once again, she was shocked. Goddess! How much did this cost Willow? And what connections? Tara roamed through the crowd thinking and every occasionally taking the time to enjoy the fandom energy in the air. She watched people talk and giggle amongst themselves, she noticed the changes that were made to the Bronze for the concert. The pool tables had been moved, the upstairs had been blocked off, and she noticed several men in black tee shirts with ‘Security’ written on them, standing by the back stage door. She had to admit she overly excited about the whole night, even more so because she knew, somehow, Willow had managed to give this to her. As she looked through the crowd, she saw a large muscular man making his way through walking hurriedly towards her. She was about to step aside to let him pass but he stop right in front of her giving her a goofy smile. “Tara, right?”

Does everyone know who I am? “Y-yes.”

“Thank goodness. I thought I’d never find you in this crowd. Anyway, I’m Larry. I’m an old friend of Willow’s.” Oz had scolded him earlier about blabbing to Willow and not to let Tara know that either he or Willow was there. “Damn!”

The man’s exclamation startled Tara and she involuntarily stepped back. Seeing his affect on the girl, Larry quickly stepped forward and began to apologize. “I’m sorry Sweetie. I didn't mean to startle you. It’s just, she was right. Girl you’re gorgeous!”

Tara wasn’t used to this kind of attention, especially from someone she’d never met. As per usual, she gave him a shy thank you and hung her head letting her hair fall around it. “Goodness, I’m having a terrible effect on everyone tonight. Let’s start over. I’m Larry. I know Willow and I have a couple of things to tell you.”

The man’s kind and flaming demeanor was starting to have a calming affect on Tara but when she spoke her nervousness still shone through. “Ok, great. Well, I’m Tara. I know Willow too, but you already knew that. I mean, if you knew who I was then you must know Willow, and of course you would know that I know her. And it’s nice to meet one of her friends and I’m assuming you went to high school together… What?” Tara had stopped when she saw the man staring at her in complete amazement. “Oh, sorry. Didn’t mean to stare but she defenatly has rubbed off on you. I’ve never known anyone else that could babble like that.”

“Sorry. Um, there was something you needed to tell me?” Tara managed to say through her embarrassment.

“Don’t be. It’s adorable. And yes. First of all you have an unlimited tab at the bar and…”

“Unlimited? How…” He just gave her a big smile until she realized. Oh. Willow. Seeing that she understood, he continued. “As I was saying. Have anything you like. Eat, drink, be merry and gay. Ok, that came out wrong. Anyway, the second thing is, at intermission go to that door over there where all this buff rugged men are standing and they’ll let you back stage. Ok?”

Tara was trying not to laugh. “Sure.”

“Ok then. The shows getting ready to start. I better get going. It was nice to meet you. Have fun.” He patted the blonde on the shoulder and ran off back towards the other crewmembers.

Moments later the lights went down and a loud voice came across the sound system. ‘Ladies and gentlemen. I give you Boy George and the Culture Club’ The crowd whooped and cheered, Tara surprised herself when she joined them and found herself screaming louder when the light’s came up and she heard the familiar harmonica tone.

------------------------------------------------------------

Willow and Oz stood on the upstairs balcony looking down at Tara jump around and sing along. For the longest time he let Willow just watch. With every song that played Tara became more excited, as did Willow. As watched both girls his guilt started to overwhelm him. How could he have hurt them like that? Between the issues with Willow and him almost eating Tara, he decided to speak up but stopped when the song changed. Predicting the effect the song might have on the redhead he moved closer, ready to comfort her.

Give me time

To realize my crime

Let me love and steal

I’ve danced inside your eyes

How can I be real

Do you really want to hurt me

Do you really wan to make me cry

Precious kisses

Words that burn me

Lovers never ask you why

In my heart the fire’s burning

Choose my color

Find a star

Precious people always tell me

That’s a step

A step to far

As the chorus played on Willow began to speak calmly through her tears. “How could I have done this? How could I have hurt like that?”

“Things get out of hand.”

She pushed down a chuckle. This was a normal Oz response; short, to the point, and yet a lot of meaning. “Yeah, I guess so. I just wish I knew how I could earn her forgiveness.”

“You don’t earn forgiveness. Besides, she already has. She’s in pain Will. She’s scared.”

“How do you know?”

“She wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t forgiven you and I can smell it.”

“Smell it?”

“The fear.”

“She’s afraid of me?”

“No, I don’t think so. I think she’s afraid of herself, her feelings. She loves you. That’s all I know. It’s not a lot but…”

“No! It is. Thanks Oz. For everything.”

“You’re welcome. Besides, you did.”

“What?”

“Forgave me.” Willow could only smile. They both knew it was the truth. “Come on.” He said taking her hand.

“Where are we going?”

“Back stage.”

“What? No! Wait, I can’t…”
