ME and its fond memories of us

Postby drlloyd11 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 1:41 am

This was a few days ago.
Here is my favorite part

According to Christopher Buchanan, who served as president of Mr. Whedon's production company, Mutant Enemy, Whedon never let the desires and speculation of the fans influence the direction he wanted to take the show or individual characters.

Whedon sometimes made unpopular choices in his shows, Mr. Buchanan says, but it was a part of what made them so engaging. Whenever it seemed as if characters were in a good relationship, fans would start to get nervous. When Tara was killed off on "Buffy," the reaction was strong, he says. "We got hate mail. I had a guy that would fax me every day a single-spaced full page of ... you don't even want to know ... for six months." But he believes that same sense of unpredictability is what kept the fans on the edge of their seats.

Tim! They remembered you!

Amazing. They still don't understand that Tara/Willow was not just "a relationship on the show", but something much different and more important. It wasn't a question of "'shipping" by overenthusiastic fans, but an appreciation of the only positive depiction of a relationship of its kind on television. If the characters had been portrayed by two different actresses, the reaction would have been much the same when it was so brutally ended.

I am sure I was not the only one.

After all I didn't fax *every* day.

He forgot to add, how organized fans also raised awareness and maybe, just maybe, helped get the shows off the air.

Actually Joss has stated that the only reason Spike didn't die back in Season 2 was that it was clear he was a fan favourite so he most certainly HAS changed his mind based on fanship.

Also, the fact that people got so angry is not a positive thing nor is it a reason to celebrate by Joss and his cronies. What it showed is not that he got it right but that he got it spectacularly wrong.

Reaction does not equal good!

Dumb Joss.
Most folks figure this out when they are 6.

You get a big reaction when you destroy a work of art.
So therefore, it must be destroyed.
Right?

I think it's just ass covering.
He 'doesn't listen to fans' when it's negative publicity, but he cashes in when it's good.

"Why did you kill Tara?"
"Because i'm a jerk."

If we accomplish nothing else we need to get Joss to admit that the story of bringing Tara back was pure fabricated bullshit.

He had no intention to do that all. He made it up when confronted by angry Tara fans.

It Looks like he might actually be doing it:

Link

This could redeem him a little for me, or be the final nail in the coffin.
