willtar mentioned something in the Ask Any Question thread that could go in the FAQ. She mentioned that POSTS IN ALL CAPS are kind of annoying. Do you think something like that should be mentioned, or is it so rare as to make an explicit rule superfulous?

Personally I don't think that it happens often enough to be made part of the FAQ. It might get too long and this is something that is easily fixed by editing the posts in question and commenting on it to the poster in question if it happens more than once.

*editing: Oh goodie, I am getting stalked on the east *and* the west coast now. I guess I won't need to worry about hotel acommodations when I go to the US.

Xita, so far as the question of sites such as the transcript site, the transcript site itself says on its opening web page,
quote:
This site is not secret. You don't have to ask for permission to tell the URL somebody. Just do it :-)

I know this doesn't address the question of its a wise thing to do to post such addresses here, however since links to copywrited materials are avilable through the Download Thread, I don't think you're seriously increasing your legal exposure.

Worst case - and last year when the original Shooting Script site got shot down, there were only 2-3 sites that got actual cease and desist letters; the rest were fakes - is you get a cease and desist letter, and you have to take down the thread and the link.

In the meantime, I know that at least for me, one of the elements of BtVS I enjoy the most, is reading the shooting script.

Just my two cents.

And wow - love the FAQ. Especially 19.

I'm wondering if there's a way to keep this thread always at the top. Or is it just wishful thinking that it would encourage people to read it? It's already suggested that newbies read the FAQ, but a lot of people don't.

I think the FAQ is pretty complete now, surely? I wrote the FAQ at another board myself (boasts ), so I know how hard it is. I think the Kitten FAQ is perfect. Now if only everyone would read it...

Personally I do think making registration mandatory to post is the good idea - it would probably completely cut out the troll problem (there's a troll problem? Only if you don't stretch first! )

You have had a west coast stalker for a few months now although obviously I have to do better I have let my stalking slip recently. And you have somewhere to stay, if you ever get around to visiting

Bumpety-Bump-Bump. I keep noticing that this is still needed so I don't want to let it slip off the page (and it may be needed by me as much as anybody, but it's needed nonetheless). Hope people read! It might take some pressure off of our lovely, wise and hardworking mods.

...(sigh)...

I'm kinda getting the feeling from reading other threads that it doesn't matter how prominently displayed a request to read and abide by the FAQ is, lotsa people still aren't doing it.

I wish I knew how to do that eye-rolling smilie-thingy.

Sorry, I just had to vent.

Edited first to test-drive new smilie experiment.

Edited second to say: OMG! Look at me! I got it. Thank you, supermus!

to do the eye rolling smiley press ":" and then "p", like this: . when you're writing a post, under the HTML and UBB code, the smileys legend links takes you to a place that show you how to do lots of smileys.

Aww you're welcome. There's something else kinda cool I found out about multiple editing. I once had this really annoying HTML error, so I had to edit like 6 times, but I found out that when you go in to edit the second time, the "This message has been edited" from the first time is at the bottom. If you delete that one, you can edit as many times as necesarry with only one edit tag. .

hey there--i've been lurking for a while now, and i just wanted to say that #21 is a rule that EVERY board should have....there are so many other boards out there that have no respect for the actors, characters, show, etc....and it shows. it's almost like they think the actors are their own personal little toys to say whatever they want about, if that makes any sense. so anyway, i just wanted to say i think that's great....have fun kittens!!

Just a few questions & suggestions.

Is it not possible to `sticky` the FAQ & ask-a-question threads so that they always appear as the top messages? Many other boards seem to have this format which works fine. Does fractalcore have this ability?

Much of the FAQ appears to be of a technical nature. Can`t these be re-directed to the fractalcore help page? Most of the answers are there.

There should be some more explanation of the various acronyms that we all use.
Who/what is AB BSD AH ASH NB JW TPTB MN etc...?
No idea dear. If only it was in the FAQ.

I don`t know what you guys think. I hope this helps.

Well if we could have made this thread stick we would have already, but Novogate does not have that feature. Also, if people do not read this FAQ I don't think they are likely to read the Novogate one, in any case the technical stuff is explained in this FAQ a little more clearly I think. Lastly, if we make a list of all abreviations it could get rather long, although I have to confess it took me sometime before I was sure what lol rofl brb fyi imho (don't like that one) meant, but there ya go sbasncrs.

On the abbreviations issue...

Perhaps someone could set up an Abbreviations FAQ on a separate page,a nd we just stick in a link? That saves space in the main FAQ, but also lets people look stuff up.

And, hey, I'm an IT gal; I'll volunteer to set it up, knowing HTML and all that jazz. Sound good?

This is a question for any and all mods -

I think this is the best place for this question.

When closing a new/duplicate thread, is there a way to signify which thread you’re placing that information when you lock it? I think some of the newer people want to jump in and share, but don’t realize that the conversation already exists. By closing their thread, but redirecting them, you might be able to help the newer people find those conversations that will help them to integrate and share more easily...which makes for many more happy kittens with W/T goodness to offer.

Did I make any sense?

By closing their thread, but redirecting them, you might be able to help the newer people find those conversations that will help them to integrate and share more easily...which makes for many more happy kittens with W/T goodness to offer.

Did I make any sense?
BM

I am not sure this is a problem, it is our policy to do so. We usually direct people to their exact post.

Webwarlock, those will be incorporated in the next version.

Xita - I guess I'm not being clear tonight...a fuzzy head makes for interesting posting that's short on the clarity! My fault.

What I'm wondering is if that person can also be directed to the faq within the thread as well as where their topic has been placed...especially # 2. I think it might be a way to clear up confusion amoung the people who want to jump in.

Huh. Lookie here it's the FAQ. What was #19 again? Oh it is right there. It's odd. I get the strange feeling people still have not read this. Now why would that be? Hmm.

I'm kinda getting the feeling from reading other threads that it doesn't matter how prominently displayed a request to read and abide by the FAQ is, lotsa people still aren't doing it.

I wish I knew how to do that eye-rolling smilie-thingy.

Sorry, I just had to vent.

to do the eye rolling smiley press ":" and then "p", like this: . when you're writing a post, under the HTML and UBB code, the smileys legend links takes you to a place that show you how to do lots of smileys.

Yes, TLE, we'd all better watch out for Alicia...Unless, of course, she has Amber with her and they screen that cut scene from "The Crush" where Aly Hannigan showed up as Amber's sexy new "riding student" with the hay-rolling and...Um, what was the question?
