that's so not nice...

It is a nice site (those darned pop-ups I can do without) and it's good to have all these pics together, but give credit where credit is due, that should not be so hard. The pics of course are beautiful, but it's Aly, how can they not be?
Thanks Nick for all the wonderful Aly *and* Willow and Tara pics you have given us in the past and hopefully will in the future (subtle hint).

Alyson rarely ever has a bad picture, and the majority of those (on all seven pages up there) are great. Such a beautiful smile! (I keep wishing our smileys had real pictures of Aly & Amber instead of simple cartoons! Unfortunately at a reasonable size for smileys there probably wouldn't be enough resolution to get a picture to come out well. )
Nice collection, but the way the site pushes pop-ups is really annoying (including a Musketeers ad poping up on top of the pictures, with sound even; and that's even without downloading the players for some other stuff it kept trying to push). If you can turn off JavaScript in your browser you can probably kill the pop-ups.
If they are lifting pictures from other sites without permission or credit, it's especially wrong that they support the site through advertising (rather than doing it out-of-pocket as a fan). However, the site and the picture uploads might be separate; ie. the site sells advertising to pay for the server and all (and presumably make money) while the pictures are uploaded by fans that find them (and possibly lift them without permission or credit). If the site has people specifically looking for already-online pictures there's no excuse for being unable to attribute them to the original site and link to that site from the page for each picture. Even without prior permission, that'd at least be respectful, and cross-promoting the site that did the work (assuming they hadn't lifted it from elsewhere) is a good way to "pay" for using it. (I added sites to my sig on the BronzeShelter; of course I also first asked for and received permission to use a picture of Amber in my avatar.)
I have mixed feelings about copying online pictures. On the one hand, you should get them from the site that's providing them when you want to look at them. On the other hand, you never know when that site is going to go down or take away the pictures you like (limited space, for example), so we should be able to archive them against such a loss. That slightly reaches to "sharing them from our own site" to help those fans who hadn't made such copies, but it's really a stretch to "make money off them", and especially when the originals are still being provided on out-of-pocket sites by true fans.
And just a note: I'm not sure how bothered really meant it, but that could be interpreted as agreement that lifting pictures without permission or credit is "so not nice". Always look for an interpretation with positive intent before assuming a negative intent. If that interpretation is how bothered actually meant it, it would have been more clear to indicate an antecedent. For example, add "of them" to the end (distinguish the intent from "of you", referring to the statements by Dead Dog).

posted September 01, 2001 04:47 I agree with Xita and Warduke, Nick's words may sound harsh but it's understandable. Taking without asking in most twisted dictionaries is called stealing. I don't know actress archives, but I'll take Nick's word for it and I do know that it has happened to other sites. Some people even lie about it and claim it is their own work.

I bet you're fed up with people doing this aren't you Nick!
