Part 3
Tara leaned against Willow’s forehead and they rubbed noses affectionately. Okay, so that was good, only eyes for me and nothing happened! Tara thought, as they joined hands interlocking fingers.
Eye contact was unavoidable and sparkling blue eyes met flashing green. Tara felt overwhelmed by their connection as it surged through her entire body, leaving her stimulated and aroused. Their attraction was like metal to magnet … powerful and undeniable.
The blonde shuddered as she remembered how sensual it felt to kiss those lips and feel Willow’s tongue probe her mouth with desire and without restraint. Her body ached for Willow and it almost seemed too easy to succumb to making love … until she remembered that she shared a room now!
Her roommate Alex may not be cool with the girl-on-girl action in the bedroom, or any sort of that action in the same room! That’s why she had stayed with her friend Nikki for the last two nights as Alex’s boyfriend who went to college in Boston had come to visit. What are we doing? I should be saying goodnight, not thinking about how hot she makes me …not thinking about how much I want her to be kissing me right now!
Willow gently backed Tara against her dorm door. Okay, she’s not pushing me off, she looks kinda turned on, I think she wants me to kiss her! Willow decided she would test the water, so she broke the contact and kissed the blonde’s forehead and then kissed the end of her nose.
Tara’s breathing deepened in response to both the kisses, and she pushed her body against Willow’s body when the redhead re-established contact with the foreheads. This is definitely more encouraging, what if I rub her thumb with my thumb? Yes, that’s working, it’s all super-tingly! thought the hacker as she felt the blonde trembling against her.
“You know in Iceland, rubbing noses is the same as kissing.” Wil whispered seductively. Tara smiled as they both broke the forehead contact, looking at each other’s lips before moving in for a kiss …
The handle on the door behind them was turning and both witches could hear voices coming through from the other side, causing them to spring apart and try to appear to be just two good friends stood talking in the corridor.
“I was thinking we could get pizza … hey, Tara! I, uh …” a dark-haired girl said coming out of the room opposite, stopping herself at seeing Willow and Tara separate quickly. The redhead shifted uncomfortably under her stare. Why is she looking at me like that? Who is she?
“Um, I didn’t know when you’d be back, do you want your stuff now?” the girl speaking was holding hands with another girl who was also glaring at Willow.
“Um, sure, thanks Nikki! Is Alex in?” said Tara gesturing to her door, without introducing Willow.
“No, she’s gone with James to the airport, his plane leaves in a couple of hours, so she’ll be back quite late probably, you know they kinda wanted to spend every minute they had together.” Said Nikki.
“Yeah I know, it’s sweet,” said Tara turning to Willow, “Wil, I just need to get my stuff and I’ll be back.”
“Sure” said the former witch, feeling all witchy right now and wanting to know exactly what was going on!
Tara stepped into Nikki’s room, leaving Willow with Nikki’s girlfriend Donna in the dorm hall.
“So what’s going on with Willow?” said Nikki handing Tara her travel bag off the floor.
“Nothing” said Tara non-committal, knowing her new friend would not approve of how fast she was starting to forgive Willow without talking everything through. Nikki didn’t know about Willow’s addiction to magick and how violated Tara had felt when Wil cast the forget spell on her, the blonde wouldn’t have discussed that with anyone outside of the scoobys, but Nikki did know that Tara had been really hurt in the break-up with Willow, and felt protective of her new friend who was such a genuine and sincere person.
“It didn’t look like nothing in the hall, were you kissing?” Nikki questioned.
“No … nearly, and I wanted to!” the blonde admitted.
“Did you talk things through?” Nikki asked.
“We started to, but we got interrupted, I know. I know we should talk.” Tara said to the disapproving look.
“Tara I know you love her, and it’s easy to get carried away with the physical stuff, I know I’ve been there, but if you want it to work out you need to sort the problems out, you need to finish that conversation and get answers before you jump back in.” Nikki sighed, she knew Tara loved Willow deeply and wanted her back more than anything, but what she didn’t want was to see her new friend hurt again, like she was when she first moved into the dorms when she moped about for weeks.
“You’re right, no more jumping! We need to talk first!” said Tara, immediately thinking that she wanted to know more about the Rack thing and why he said Willow tasted like strawberries!
In the hall, Wil was feeling more uncomfortable with Nikki’s girlfriend by the second, she thought maybe she should try to introduce herself.
“Boy, that bag must be heavy! You know, we weren’t introduced, I’m …”
“I know who you are!” said Donna speaking over her.
“…Willow!” Wil paused, confused at the girl’s hostility but still trying to be polite in spite of her growing hatred of the girl, “Great and you are?”
“Donna” the girl snapped, looking away down the hall. At that moment, Tara and Nikki came out of the room. Tara was carrying her travel bag.
“Anyway, we’re off to get food, see you later Tara! Nice to meet you Willow” said Nikki leaving with Donna, arms wrapped around each other.
“Yeah, you too” called Wil down the hall, thinking that they hadn’t even been introduced, let alone meet.
Tara opened the door to her room and went inside placing her bag on her bed, Willow followed closely behind and shut the door.
“So, what’s with the bag?” asked Wil curious to know who Nikki was and why Tara had obviously spent the night in her room.
“My roommate Alex has had her boyfriend down, they wanted to be alone. So I needed somewhere to stay for a couple of nights and Nikki offered.” Said the blonde.
“And you didn’t think of staying at the house? I mean you’d rather stay with a stranger, sleeping on someone’s floor, than sleep in the same house as me?” Willow felt hurt that Tara could not even consider asking her for help or even use her situation as an excuse to spend some time together, as Wil knew she would have.
“Nikki’s not a stranger, she’s my friend. Besides, it’s not like I had to sleep on the floor.” said Tara, Why does she look mad with me?.
“What? You slept together?” said a shocked redhead.
“No! Nikki stayed in Donna’s room, they’re going out, obviously and I didn’t sleep with anyone!”
“Well, it’s nice to see you making friends and moving on” Wil turned her back to Tara, incapable of controlling her insecurities and jealousy.
“Wil, her room’s just across the hall, it was convenient.” Tara attempted to diffuse the situation.
“Right, so when you said you missed me, what you really meant was only sometimes, when you weren’t grabbing every opportunity to stay with your new friends rather than spend time with me, is that right?” Willow snapped.
“Willow, you’re being ridiculous, this isn’t important!” Tara felt herself getting frustrated that they were arguing over something that didn’t matter.
“This isn’t important and I’m being ridiculous?” the redhead questioned in temper.
“It’s not important, it’s-” Tara was interrupted
“Well, I’m sorry if you don’t think it’s important but I do, along with the way your friends were looking at me, what exactly did you tell them about me Tara?” Wil said accusingly.
“Nothing! They don’t know anything” the blonde sighed.
“They know something. What did you tell them? About my addiction to magick and how I cast on you? Cause I thought that stuff was private, between you and me, stuff that only we should talk about” said Wil very upset.
“It is private, I wouldn’t talk about you to anyone.” Tara defended.
“Oh, and what took you so long picking up a bag? You were like 5 minutes, are you trying to tell me that you weren’t talking about me then?” shouted Willow.
“It wasn’t what you think! Willow, why are you being like this?” Tara winced, knowing that she was partly guilty, but I haven’t told them anything! They just know we broke up and I was upset to leave, and that I still get upset, God why are we arguing?
“Because I’m a bitch, isn’t that what your friends think?” the redhead mocked.
“Well, I’m not the one who cares so much about what my friends think!” Tara retorted.
“And what’s that supposed to mean?” said Willow feeling extremely angry, angry at Amy, angry at Nikki and Donna and angry with Tara for breaking their confidence.
“Why didn’t you kiss me in the hall?” Willow looks confused, “Because you heard people that’s why, and God forbid we should actually kiss in public or in front Buffy or Xander, you know I’m just as paranoid as you are about it and it’s stupid Wil because they don’t care! The only person who cares is you!” Tara said angrily, surprised that she had actually voiced her all time deep-rooted concern about her relationship with Willow.
Tara and Willow had never kissed in public or in front of the scoobys. They had held hands, snuggled on the sofa, slow-danced, whispered sweet nothings to each other’s ears, but … never kissed. It had always made the blonde feel that Willow was somehow ashamed of their relationship, especially when from what she’d heard kissing in public was something taken for granted in her relationship with Oz.
“So, I’m ashamed of you, is that it?” asked Willow sarcastically.
“You tell me.” Tara looked solemn.
“Well, it looks like I don’t need to, cause you already know! I guess it’s too incredible to believe that I just didn’t know how everyone else would feel about it or how you felt about it, and since we’re just a college thing I thought it was a lot easier not to freak my friends out!” Willow stormed out of Tara’s dorm room, and ran down the hall, straight down the steps and outside in the cold night air that stung the tears on her face, as she headed home.
Tara sat on her bed besides her bag, she had checked the hall, it was empty Willow was gone, and there was little hope in chasing after her, especially in her mood. How the hell did that just happen? Why isn’t it ever easy for us? God, I just want this to work out, but I don’t know … I don’t know if love is enough?
“Hey Wil, how did the date go?” asked Buffy as Willow entered the house. Buffy had finished research at the magic shop with Xander and Dawn about an hour ago, but she wanted to know how Wil and Tara were getting on and she had stayed up to get the scoop, but Buffy realised that it hadn’t gone well, when Willow walked closer and she could see she had been crying.
“Oh, not so good!” Buffy winced.
“You could say that!” said Willow, wiping her eyes dry again.
“What went wrong? I mean you seemed like you were getting along, like old times”
“We were and then it all came crashing down, and I lost my temper and I got jealous and acted like a bitch! Buffy, I screwed up again!” said the redhead starting to cry again.
“Hey! Come here,” Buffy pulled her best friend in a hug, “I’m sure it’s not that bad Wil, you can sort it out, you and Tara are meant to be together.”
“It doesn’t feel like it!” Willow then filled Buffy in on the whole evening.
“You know Tara probably wanted to stay here but felt too awkward to ask, you were only just on speaking terms before tonight remember? And I really don’t see Tara spilling about your relationship to people she’s just met, I mean I think she would have told me cause we’ve had, um, chats where she could have said stuff you know” Buffy covered, Tara was still the only one who knew about her relationship with Spike and after sharing that, then surely Tara would have discussed Willow with her if she felt the need, talking to someone outside of the scoobys just didn’t feel right.
“I know, I told you was over-sensitive gal, didn’t I?” Willow grimaced, remembering how she had over-reacted to the whole staying with Nikki thing.
“So, why haven’t you guys ever kissed in public? Tara’s right it’s not like any of us would mind, in the beginning it may have been weird but you were together for over 2 years, you lived together, shared a room, it’s not like it would have freaked me out!” Buffy was curious, she had to admit she had wondered herself why she had never seen them kiss, not even one peck on the lips, they were always so discreet even with only friends who they both regarded as family.
“I guess, it sounds stupid when you put it like that, it’s just it did feel awkward to start with and I didn’t know how you or Xander would feel, and I guess I’ve always been conscious of it. I didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable and Tara and me never talked about it before, and now it’s like some big thing she’s been hiding from me … I don’t know, it’s all such a mess Buffy!” Wil sighed feeling distraught.
“It’ll get better, I promise, but now it’s time for bed!” Buffy said getting up from the sofa.
“Hey, did you find out about the radhar after?” Willow asked, suddenly remembering that Buffy had been researching.
“Sure did, but I’ll tell you in the morning, it’s complicated and I don’t know about you but I need some sleep!”
“Yeah, I’m kinda sleepy too!” said the redhead yawning, “It’s definitely bedtime, which is sort of depressing because my bed’s half-empty! I miss her snuggles!” Wil sighed.
“I’m sure it won’t be for long!” reassured Buffy.
[God help me if it is!!! thought Willow desperately
