Hey Shel,
I swear I remember commenting on the one before this but I guess not. Sorry. Fun day for the girls. I was really interested in what Stella had to say about her education and such. Being a stay at home mom can be pretty crazy making as can being financially stressed. Plus, I can see how it could be hard to fit into that family so I feel for her.

This update was nice and seems a bit of this that... move forward. You know? I'm glad because I'm ready for them to go back home. I liked the horse ride over to get their pictures taken. Good plan and very friendly. We went to the Houston zoo the day after Thanksgiving last year for free zoo day. This year we were in Austin but boy was it crowded in Houston. The dancing should be fun but also likely to be a craze with Tara Maclay attracting a lot of attention.

One other thing: we got a new flat-screen 40 inch HD TV today which means I can say this in HD: GO TEXANS!

Hi Shel! So glad to see an update.

So, we’ll just have to wait and see how things shake out. I have plans…

And boy, I can't wait to see what plans you have in store for us. After reading, and re-reading, it just makes me that much more curious to see where you're going to end up taking our girls.

The family album time is nice, and it's interesting how Tara notices the connection between Willow and Grayson, and the protectiveness.

The paps at the gate seem like vultures hovering around for some type of scraps, but I love how Tara takes charge here and figures out the best way to handle them. Interesting to see what kind of headlines they'll come up with to go along with those pics. I also loved how Willow saw that Tara needed a little de-stressing moment before going out and facing them. And they were following Sheila at the store? I'd really like to know how that conversation went in the kitchen.

Their day out seems like a breath of fresh air away from all the stress, which was much needed. Tara getting turned on by Willow's brain did a little something for me too, so thanks for that. :blush

Their last night there dinner/party bash sounds all kinds of interesting. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Enjoy your kid-less getaway!

Hey Shel,

Thanks for the update. It's amazing what little connections can be made through pictures. Glad you showed Greyson's protective streak towards Willow this way. It was very subtle, but spoke volumes. I also, love the trust that Tara already has with Willow. You have shown over and over during this vacation how Tara lets Willow lead on family stuff and Willow trusts Tara regarding Hollywood stuff. I hope this trend of trusting one another continues back in LA where things could get a little more dicey. I love going to the zoo. The fact that these two can enjoy each other so much even with the family and the world around them to watch is just awesome.

Looking forward to the partay!

Hey Shel. So I totally missed that last update. My apologies. I think I fell off the face of the Earth for a couple weeks. But this was a nice little update. Moving the story along and all.

So Sheila... I don't even know what to say about Sheila. I'm starting to wonder what's really going on in her head. Obviously she loves Willow but I just get the feeling that something's up with her. Or I'm just reading something into it that's not there. Either way, I'm not sure the fireworks are over yet since they don't leave for another day but we shall see.

And like Ariel, I liked your explanation for Willow's frog-phobia. Totally makes sense in this story. But her whole brainy, geeky spiel, well who can't love a girl with a great mind? They were adorable on the African plains. The ear tickling and such...

Looking forward to the next update!
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.

Tara couldn’t help but smile; baby Willow was adorable.

Of course baby Willow was adorable, grown up Willow was adorable and one of the high points of watching Buffy.

I'm glad that the reason Sheila calls Willow into the kitchen is because of hassles that could affect the entire famly and not because of her thoughts on her daughters life.

Tara pushed away from Willow, “Oh God, I’m s-so sorry. Maybe I s-should just leave.”

Poor Tara, she just can't seem to get a break. First disapproval from Sheila, then bullying and snarkiness from Robbie and now this. It's good to know that Willow and her siblings are there for her.

It's a nice twist having Tara nervous of horses as opposed to Willow like in Ariel's HIMYM.

“If it makes you feel better dressing up a bit, that’s fine. If you just wanna wear sweats and a t-shirt, that’s fine too. Just be you sweetie.” Tara reached across the gap between them and met Willow’s hand in the middle.

I do like this line as it highlights that though the paparazzi being around is something that essentially affects Tara, her words here to Willow emphasise that they are in it together and they can beat it together.

“I just…I don’t want people thinking your dating a schmoo.”

Tara raised an amused eyebrow, “A schmoo? What exactly is a schmoo?”

Willow scrunched her shoulders, a bit embarrassed, “You know, a plain Jane.”

Doesn't she look in a mirror? Willow is anything but a plain Jane. I know that if I were a gay girl in this particular story Tara might just have a fight on her hands for her feisty little redhead.

Willow smiled and slid into a parcel tongued babble,

Parcel tongued babble hmmm, I sense the influence of a certain fictional boy wizard here.

“The King Cobra is the sole member of the genus Ophiophagus, which is a Greek word meaning ‘snake eater,’ cuz their diet consists mostly of other snakes. All other true cobras are members of the genus Naja. It’s all a matter of size and hood marks. See the stripe on his neck? It’s like an inverted ‘v’ instead of the double or single eye shapes that distinguish most other Asian cobras. Kings are often depicted with the eye shapes, like in Ricki Ticki Tavi, but it’s a misnomer. Sometimes it’s hard to see, but if you look at the back of it’s head closely, you can see a pair of large scales called occipitals. Cobras usually have a ‘nine plate’ arrangement, but these are specific to the King. It’s a foolproof method of identification!”

Ah brainy Willow, how we have missed you since the early days of Buffy

“Will, how do you know so much about snakes? I mean, I thought you were a Lesbian.” Tara whispered as she playfully hip bumped Willow.

:rofl hilarious, nice one liner there from Tara.

Willow looked at Tara completely horrified, “Yeah well, that’s because I’ve never woken up to multiple King Cobras in my bed or in my locker or down my pants…uh, lets just pretend like I didn’t say that last part.” Willow said squeamishly.

“You had frogs in your pants? But who…?”

Willow raised her eyebrows, “Brothers…remember?”

At last someone's given us a reason for Willow's frog fear. I do have one of my own but I'm saving it for another story.

Once outside in the warm Texas sun, they found an empty bench and sat down to await the rest of Willow’s family. The simple excursion to the zoo with Milo, Eli and Stella had quickly blown up into a large scale family outing. Nearly everyone had decided to go, including both grandmothers, Willow’s siblings and their respective mates. Ira stayed behind, doing his son-in-law duties by taking the grandfathers golfing, while Sheila opted to show a house instead of spending the day with her family. She had been noticeably aloof and keeping her distance from Willow. Ira had suggested, however, that they all meet later for dinner since it was Willow and Tara’s last night; knowing that there was no getting out of it for Sheila.

I do love the close knitness of the family here but can't help but think there is some major drama ahead at the family dinner, though maybe Sheila's mom can put her daughter straight on some things.

Okay so I have not finished reading through this yet, but I couldn't wait to say that I am engrossed in this story. It's probably one of my favorite Willow/Tara fics ever. I have been reading it nonstop. I love how you put so much cuteness then a little angst then more cuteness then oh holy hello sex time ;p I love how well Willow and Tara are handling their relationship so far. From the part I'm reading they are at least, I don't know about later :p

I will be back with more probably very soon, now off to more reading :)

Okay so I'm completely addicted. I've been reading it nonstop all day and I'm finally finished.

I really love the banter between siblings and how Tara got Stella into it. Stella getting excited about possibly kicking ass was so great. I'm glad to see her starting to find her place in the group.

Milo is freaking adorable. Children are always so funny and outspoken. I love how you make his speech sound just like a 4-year-old's normally would.

I dislike Robby very much and I also dislike Sheila. Ira finally stepping in was great. And unexpected moments from Grayson. I didn't like his character at first, but he has grown on me.

I love how you add in the Tabloids. They never cease to amaze me with some of the crazy things they come up with. Even ones that people think are the truth really aren't and I love that you have that added in there.

You capture love and emotions so well. It makes for very enjoyable reading :)

I'm worried about what the future holds for the girls :( There are such powerful emotional scenes in this. But their had gotten them through so far and I hope it stays that way.

I really can't wait till the next update :)

Ariel:
Hey Julie!

Wow, bagging a Finey!
Just don’t tell my wife! :p

SOME of the ‘Sheila issuse’ will be resolved in this next chapter, but she still has a ways to go.

Glad you liked my canon stuff:) There is some on the next chapter as well. It’s pretty subtle, so let’s see who catches it!

I actually, for the first time in my life, saw a coral snake about 4 years ago. It crossed the road in front of me, I hit the brakes, recited the little poem and it was indeed a coral.

Glad you liked my frog phobia explanation! I felt it was due. :p

I’ve also been to the San Diego Zoo and it’s lovely.

Tara is MORE than ready to go home, As am I. I’ve been at my brother’s house for 2 days and can’t wait to get the F out! Lol My Sister in Law makes me CRAZY…talks non stop!

Thanks for the feedback!

AstronSoul:
Don’t work too hard! Hope you had time to read:)

Thanks for the feedback!

zampsa19752001:
Tara is pretty seasoned at handling the paps and knows exactly what will appease them.

Willow will finally get some things sorted with Sheila in the next chapter. Yay!

Family zoo trips when kids are involved can be all kinds of fun! Don’t worry about Gray’s plans, it’ll just be a fun night out:)

Thanks for the feedback!

Babbles4Twillow:
Glad you liked the chapter! There will be some Sheila fun in the next chapter and some resolution as well. It needed to happen before they leave or Willow will remain in a constant state of flux, lol.

Thanks for the feedback!

JustAKitty:
Hey fellow former lurker! No worries…we’ve ALL lived in Lurksville ;-) .

I’m glad that you are enjoying the fic and my original characters. They have been so much fun to write!

‘Brainy Willow’ does it for Tara like ‘Take charge Tara’ does it for Willow. They haven’t had ‘time’ together in awhile and I think just about anything would turn them on right now, lol.

Thanks for the feedback!

JustSkipIt:
Maybe you dreamt that you left feedback? Lol

Stella definitely took on the ‘black sheep’ role for a long time, but I believe having a baby so young with no clear future plans took it’s toll on her sanity. Especially when you have a very critical and controlling MIL like Sheila. Hopefully she can get her identity back and things will get better.

Yeah, the chapter was a little bit of everything to wrap some things up, as is the next chapter as well. I desperately need to get them OUT of Texas, lol. Longest vacation ever!

OT: We made the mistake of taking J to the zoo on the free day once…once and NEVER again! It’s bad enough on a regular weekend day. The last time we went, it took us an hour to find a parking place. By the time we got in, I was in such a mood that I really didn’t enjoy myself at all…sadly.

Hope you are enjoying your new TV!

Thanks for the feedback!

wimpy0729:
I went back and re-read recently as well just to kinda plot their future. It was fun, but I also realized that much of what happened was unplanned and just took on a life of it’s own, lol.

I think that Grayson and Willow have this love/irritate relationship and each wishes the other were a little more different; more compatible, I guess. Does that make sense? They were close and then became very competitive, with little things that get on the other’s nerves.

The paps are like ‘Wolves at the Gate,’ so to speak and yes, vultures would be a good analogy. Luckily, Tara is seasoned as to how to handle their antics. Hopefully the headlines are kind since Tara was kind to them:) BTW…the kitchen conversation will remain a mystery!!

Glad you liked brainy Willow, but then again…who doesn’t??

Thanks for the feedback!!!

True_Love:
Hey…glad you enjoyed the update! That chapter and the next are kind of wrapping things up and hopefully getting them back to LA in one piece, lol.

To me, Grayson is sort of the Spike of the story; irritating, yet lovable at the same time. You kind of want to slap him and hug him simultaneously.

What’s going to be interesting is when they return to LA and Willow has to deal with the paps on her own, because Tara can’t always be there to handle them. Hopefully she figures it out!

I think they can enjoy each other no matter who is around:)

Thanks for the feedback!!

beautiful_love:
Hey Jess!

No worries on the last chapter…I haven’t exactly been the pilar of regular feedback lately:(

Sheila…well, she has issues, lol. Some things will get wrapped up in the next chapter, so no worries. I had to throw Willow a bone, otherwise the strife between them would eat her up.

Willow and frogs…it was high time someone explained it! Haha It’s funny how something is mentioned once in canon and we latch on to it. I think that frog comment was S2 and never touched on again. Then there’s poor Tara and her pancakes, lol.

I LOVE brainy Willow! I recently re-watched S6 and there’s a lot of brainy Willow in the early episodes:)

Thanks for the feedback!

willowtaralover:
Hi Rick!

I love watching a few episodes from each season and seeing Willow mature; she goes from adorable to beautiful. Well, always adorable. :p

Sheila, for all her faults, IS concerned and loves Willow. She just has a lot to work through. I think that Tara is more than ready to go back to LA.

Willow is not used to being under the microscope. She has some fame in the sports world, but she can get away with being sweaty and dressing down, where in Tara’s world it’s completely different. Definitely going to be a challenge.

Boy Wizard? I have no idea what you’re talking about. :p

Brainy Willow = SWOON!

I believe that it was high time Willow’s frog phobia was explained! Poor girl has been terrified of frogs and no one has never known why, lol.

Only minor drama at dinner. See below. :grin

Thanks for the feedback!

wildmind:
Hi! :bigwave

One of your favorites? Awwww, thanks! :blush I’m glad you are enjoying my ‘little’ fic. Don’t worry, this fic is fairly light and they are happy, happy:)

It took Stella a long time, but I think seeing Willow stand up to Sheila has given Stella some courage that she didn’t know she even had. Plus, Tara has been very sweet to her and that always helps. It’s kind of how Tara made Willow make peace with Anya.

I’m glad you liked Milo and his speech pattern being ‘normal.’ I’ve read a few fics in the past where the kids are little, but sound like they’re 16, lol. I have a 12 yr old and 5 nieces and nephews, so I like to think I’m an expert. :grin BTW, I send my 7yr old nephew a Morphibian for Christmas and during a recent phone conversation asked him if he ran it in the tub yet. He said, “Not yet, Daddy put it up high.” Hahahaha! I wonder why, hmm…..

I never planned for Grayson to be a total ass, but I what I did with his character was purposeful. I wrote him kind of like Spike, irritating, yet lovable at the same time. A shallow bachelor, with some redeeming qualities.

I have to admit, I read the rag mags, but only while waiting in line at the grocery store. Some of the things are totally out of left field and some are completely true or there is some truth weaved in. I love the headlines, lol.

The girls will be fine, afterall this is the Kitten. :p There will be more drama, but it’ll probably be mild compared to previous chapters.

Thanks for the feedback!

TITLE: Racing The Rain

AUTHOR: Finey_McFine

RATING: R (Language)

DISCLAIMER: Willow, Tara and any other BtVS characters, as well as some random dialog, belong to Mutant Enemy. ALL other original characters belong to me! This includes: Willow’s siblings and teammates, plus Tara’s friends and co-workers. Mention of any ‘real’ people in this fic is brief and pure fantasy.

SUMMARY: Totally AU! Set in LA with lots of W/T fluff and some angst, but no Hellmouthyness; just good old regular day-to-day drama. Willow is attending college on an athletic scholarship and Tara is Hollywood royalty. They meet and fall in love, of course, but will they be able to survive the pitfalls of a public romance? Well, you’ll just have to read and find out! ;-)

FEEDBACK: Yes! Any glaring issues…please send me a PM!

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Hi Everyone and Happy Thursday. I apologize for the crazy posting schedule and the length of time between chapters. My Mom has been very sick and things are not looking good. I plan to keep writing and updating because it takes my mind off of things, but it may not be weekly and could be somewhat erratic. Anyway, I hope ya’ll enjoy the next chapter…I may eventually get them out of Texas, lol!

Chapter 57: Amends

“Tare, how do I look?” Willow asked standing in front of the full-length mirror in her bedroom.

Tara sighed, “You look just as good as you looked the last time you asked me five minutes ago.”

Willow turned to look at her backside and then she spun back to face the mirror, once again tugging at her blouse. She made a face, messed with her hair, then turned once again; only this time she found herself face to face with an agitated Tara. “Jesus! You scared me Tara!” Willow exclaimed.

“Baby, exactly what is going on with you?” Tara asked her flustered girlfriend.

Willow’s shoulders sagged, “I don’t know…I really don’t.” Willow shook her head, moving past Tara and slumping down on the bed.

Tara moved next to Willow, as she scooted close to the redhead she wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close. They stayed that way for several long moments before Willow sat up. Tara reached up, letting her fingers trail down the side of Willow’s face, “You’re so beautiful, my Willow.”

Willow closed her eyes, taking a deep breath as she reveled in Tara’s soft touch. Aside from sleeping together every night, they’d had very little alone time and it was starting to take its toll on both women. Willow took Tara’s hand in hers and pressed it firmly against her face. “I’m sorry, I really don’t know what’s gotten into me today.”

Tara decided not to push for an answer and smiled sweetly as Willow kissed the palm of her hand. She suspected that Willow was antsy or sad about leaving, but she didn’t want to go down that road, especially since they were about to head out the door to a big family dinner. It was their last night in Texas and Tara was hoping to just get through it in one piece; she wasn’t sure if she could take any more homespun drama. To say that she was thrilled to be heading back to LA was an understatement of gigantic proportions. Of course, she would never say this to Willow, she knew how much Willow loved the family ranch, and the last thing she wanted to do was hurt her feelings. They’d only been there a week, but to Tara it felt like several months, and she longed to be in the safety and comfort of her home. She enjoyed Willow’s siblings, but being thrust into this type of environment had been a bit overwhelming for an only child like Tara. She’d had an especially rough time with the elders of the bunch.

Earlier in the day while they were traversing the zoo, Nanna Adele had decided it would be a good time to interrogate Tara on her ‘Hollywood lifestyle.’ While Willow played with Milo in the petting zoo, Nanna Addy had basically cornered the blonde and questioned her about her friends, where she liked to hang out, the hours she kept, and so on. Where the older woman’s chattering had been endearing the first couple days, it was now starting to grate on Tara’s last nerve and she definitely did not appreciate the third degree she was getting. Not only was the questioning irritating, but Tara also received several long winded lectures on the pitfalls of that type of ‘lifestyle.’ A type of lifestyle that Tara wasn’t even close to living. The actress was actually somewhat relieved when several fans approached her for autographs and pictures. Tara stepped away and spent quite a lot of time chatting with the fans before she was forced back to the clutches of Nanna Addy. She was finally able to excuse herself by stepping away to take some pictures of her girlfriend and Milo as they played with several over eager goats. Finally putting some distance between herself and Nanna Addy, Tara took the opportunity to slip into the petting zoo enclosure; deciding to stick close to Willow the rest of the day.

Tara was staring glassy eyed at nothing in particular, lost in thought when she was suddenly roused by a hand waving in front of her face. She blinked several times in quick succession as her eyes met Willow’s. “Hey earth to Tara…”

“Oh, sorry. I guess I got lost in thought there for a minute.”

“S’okay baby. Hey I was just thinking-” Willow started to say something when she was interrupted by a loud knock at her door. The redhead exhaled deeply, rolling her eyes and Tara could clearly see the frustration setting in. The blonde was actually a bit relieved to see that it wasn’t just her; Willow appeared to be having similar thoughts on the matter. “Yes,” the redhead growled.

“Y’all ready? It’s time to go!” Hunter shouted through the closed door.

“Yeah, be right down!” Willow returned.

“Ok, but hurry. This bus is leaving!”

“Good grief, what’s his furry hurry?” Willow grumbled as she rose from the bed and gathered her things. “Are you taking a purse?”

“Umm hmm, why?”

“Oh, I was just hoping that I could throw my stuff in and that way we would only need to bring one.”

Tara nodded, meeting Willow’s dark green eyes, “Of course you can sweetie. That’s actually a great idea, less to worry about.”

“Exactly!” The redhead grinned, they were sharing one of those couple-y moments; one where their thoughts were completely in sync with the other.

Tara glanced up to see Willow frozen with a goofy grin plastered on her face. “Are you ok Willow?”

Willow simply nodded as Tara stepped closer, opening her purse and allowing Willow to drop in her wallet, cell and keys.

Willow watched Tara as if she were worshipping a goddess, in complete awe of her lover. Tara was digging through her purse rearranging things to fit better and become more comfortable to carry. It was nothing really, but Willow was entranced. Everyday they grew closer; everyday they became more of an ‘us’ and everyday that passed Willow fell more in love.

Finally finished, Tara slung the strap over her shoulder and stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the intense look she was getting from her girlfriend, “I love you too Willow, very…very…much,” She said, kissing the redhead between each word.

“How did you…” Willow whispered.

“I know that look sweetie,” Tara moved her hand to caress Willow’s cheek, “My sweet, mushy girl. I love you so much.”

Willow pulled Tara to her and kissed her passionately until she heard her phone start to buzz. She pulled back and rested her forehead on Tara’s, “I can’t wait to go home.”

“Me too Will, me too.”

*********************************************

About an hour later, the dinner party was in full swing. The restaurant Ira had chosen was an authentic Texas steak house complete with a covered wagon out front and numerous longhorns adorning the interior walls. The atmosphere was relaxed and the family seemed to be having a wonderful time together. Everyone was chatting happily and moving about the private party room; munching on appetizers and sipping various cocktails. Willow glanced across the room, noticing that her Dad was basically by himself at the head of the table, she decided to take the opportunity to have a semi-private chat.

“Hey Dad,” The redhead sighed as she sat down next to her father.

“Hey sweetie,” Ira responded, looping an arm around his youngest daughter and dropping a kiss on the top of her head. “Having a good time?”

“Umm hmm,” Willow nodded, reveling in the attention, and snuggling closer.

“You know, I can’t believe in six months my baby will be a college graduate. The time passes so fast…” Ira lamented.

Willow chuckled, “Yeah, me either. It seems like I just left for college yesterday.”

“I’m gonna miss you sweetie…I always do.”

“I know Dad, I miss you too…all of you. Sometimes it’s hard being so far away.”

Ira smiled, “But on the bright side, we’ll be seeing each other in about a month, right?”

Willow cringed, “Well, that’s kinda what I wanted to talk to you about. I ummm…I won’t be coming home next month.” Not wanting to see her father’s disappointment, Willow cast her eyes downward.

Ira’s face fell, “Willow, I don’t understand. I…I thought…I mean we talked and I thought we were ok?”

Willow raised her eyes to meet Ira’s, “Oh no, we’re fine Dad…really.”

“Then why…”

“It um, it actually has nothing at all to do with, you know…all this stuff,” Willow said waving her hands in front of her. “Tara invited me to go to New York with her. She has all this press stuff and may even make an appearance on Saturday Night Live.”

Ira was relieved and smiled widely, “Wow, now that’s pretty exciting.”

Willow shrugged her shoulders and grinned, “Maybe a little.”

“Maybe a little,” Ira scoffed, “Are you kidding me?”

“Ok, ok I’m excited, but also a little worried.”

“Why worried? It sounds like a lot of fun to me…chance of a lifetime really.”

Willow sighed and took a second to gather her thoughts, “I’m just worried that I’ll disappoint Tara somehow. I’m not really the glamorous type, ya know? And she…she’s just so beautiful. She always seems to pull it off and she makes it look so effortless.” Willow said, glancing in Tara’s direction just in time to see the blonde toss her head back with laughter as she chatted with Molly. Willow was enthralled watching Tara and couldn’t seem to tear her eyes away.

Ira smiled as he watched the emotions play across Willow’s face, “Willow? Will…hellooooo…”

“Huh? Oh, sorry Dad. I just…”

“I get it,” Ira chuckled, “Listen, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I seriously doubt you could ever disappoint Tara and if you’re that concerned, why don’t you go shopping and pick up some new things for the trip…on me.”

“What? No Dad…really?”

“Yes, really. It’s New York in December, it’s not like you can wear a t-shirt and shorts. Use the credit card and get whatever you need. We’ll call it my Hanukkah gift for you this year.”

Willow was now grinning from ear to ear, “Thanks Dad! You’re the best!” She exclaimed and threw her arms around her father’s neck.

Ira squeezed his daughter back, “So I’ve heard,” Ira chuckled, “Now, you have to do something for me.”

“Anything, you name it!” Willow replied looking her father in the eye.

“Tell your mother.” He said flatly.

“But Da-” She started, quickly thinking twice at seeing Ira’s resolve face starring back at her. There was no face stronger than her resolve face…except for her father’s; Willow knew that she was clearly out matched. “Ok, I’ll tell her.”

“Tonight, before we leave the restaurant. She’ll be furious if she finds out I knew and didn’t tell her; better to come from you. Tonight.” He said again, putting a noticeable emphasis on the last word.

“I will, but towards the end. I don’t want to completely ruin dinner.”

“Good girl, you’re learning…” Ira said as Willow rolled her eyes, kissing her father on the cheek before returning to her seat next to Tara.

***************************************

The family dinner was going well, even though it was apparent that the rift between Willow and Sheila was still fairly wide. Sheila sat next to Ira at the head of the table with Rachael and Jeff to her right and her parents sitting directly across from them. Where as Willow sat at the opposite end with her paternal grandparents; flanked by Tara, Hunter and Molly while leaving Grayson, Rachael, and Jeff as buffers in the middle.

Things were beginning to wind down as the grandparents were yawning and looking quite tired. Sheila placed her hand on Ira’s, “Time to pay the piper,” She said as Ira grimaced and waived towards their waitress.

“Could we have the check please?” Ira asked nicely.

The young girl smiled sweetly, “It’s already been taken care of.”

Ira and Sheila looked at each other quizzically, knowing that the bill was well over a thousand dollars. “Excuse me?” Ira questioned.

The girl leaned closer to Ira and nodded towards the opposite end of the table, “Ms. Maclay gave me her card sometime ago and said to make sure everything was charged to her. She asked me not to make a big deal of it.” The young woman whispered.

“At least let us take care of the tip.” Sheila offered.

“It’s already taken care of and quite generously, but thank you for offering.” With that the young woman gathered a few items off the table and exited towards the kitchen.

“Come on,” Ira said taking Sheila’s hand and pulling her up from her chair.

“Ira?”

“We’re going to say thank you,” He said pointedly to his wife as he all but dragged her across the room.

Standing behind their chairs, Willow was laughing at something Tara had said and was playfully resting her forehead on Tara’s shoulder when her parents approached. Tara cleared her throat and nudged Willow to straighten up.

Ira smiled warmly and immediately embraced Tara, “Thank you Tara, that was very sweet of you, but you know you didn’t have to…”

A look of genuine bewilderment crossed Willow’s face; she had no idea what was going on until they pulled apart and Tara spoke.

“I know, but I w-wanted to. It was so nice of you to have me this week and welcome me into your home; I just…I w-wanted to do something nice for you all in return. I um…I don’t have any family and it was just really nice to be a part of one for a change.” Tara blushed furiously and ducked her head suddenly feeling extremely self-conscious.

Willow felt the sting of tears prick the corners of her eyes as her heart swelled with love for this woman. She took Tara’s hand in hers, bringing it up to her mouth and pressing several kisses across her knuckles. Suddenly remembering where she was, Willow glanced up at her mother. Sheila’s brows were knitted and Willow thought she actually saw tears the woman’s eyes.

Sheila opened her mouth, but only a small sound that resembled a whimper came out. Sheila blinked and cleared her throat, “I…excuse me…I need to get some air,” turning on her heels, Sheila practically sprinted out of the room.

“Sheila!” Ira called after her, inadvertently demanding the attention of the entire room. Which, until that point, had been completely oblivious to the conversation. Ira made a move to follow, but Willow gently stopped him with a hand on his arm.

“No Dad, let me. Ok?” Ira nodded as Willow exited the room in search of her runaway mother.

******************************

Willow walked briskly through the restaurant, scanning the restroom area as well as the bar with no sign of her mother. She exited the building and spotted Sheila sitting on a bench at the far end of the building. As she approached, Willow noticed that Sheila’s eyes were red and wet streaks glistened on her mother’s cheeks. Willow gasped slightly, realizing at that moment that this was the first time she’d ever seen her mother cry. Surely I’ve seen her cry before. Haven’t I? Willow was now running through her memories and could not find one. Not a movie, a graduation, the Olympics…nothing? She thought for a moment that maybe her mother did cry at the Olympics, but she’d been too caught up in the moment to notice. Either way, Willow felt horrible.

As she approached, Sheila turned her head and furiously wiped the tears away in a desperate attempt to compose herself.

“Hey,” Willow said softly as she moved to sit next to Sheila on the bench.

Sheila remained quite and shifted slightly to her right; making room for her daughter, but still said nothing. They sat there in an awkward silence for several long minutes until Sheila finally got herself together enough to speak.

“This isn’t just a college thing, is it?” Sheila’s voice cracked slightly and she cleared her throat.

Willow shook her head, “No, it’s not.” She answered, not sure if her mother meant being gay or being with Tara. Either way, the answer was the same.

“Are you sure this is the lifestyle you want to live?” Sheila asked without anger or malice.

Willow took a deep breath to calm herself, the mere mention of the word lifestyle seemed to set her nerves on end. “Mom, it’s not a lifest-”

Sheila interrupted, shaking her head, “Not being gay, I understand that, I’m talking about being with Tara. The type of lifestyle she leads; being famous and constantly under public scrutiny. It’s…it’s not going to be easy. The majority of celebrity relationships don’t make it.”

“Mom, I’m not Kim Kardashian.” Willow chuckled nervously, “I’m not putting my entire life out there for everyone to see and neither is Tara. We’re both extremely…private.”

Sheila looked at Willow worriedly, “But you are Willow. This big announcement, the press following your every move…Tara’s picture splashed on the cover of practically every magazine in the free world. Like it or not, your life is on display.”

“Our public life is on display, not our personal one. Besides, as soon as the newness wears off, they’ll leave us alone.”

Sheila nodded, “You’re my baby Willow, I…I just want what’s best for you and believe it or not, I do want to see you happy.”

“I am and it wasn’t something I went looking for, but it happened. I met a wonderful person and we fell in love. You can’t help who you fall in love with, it just happens.” Willow paused, “I wanted to call you the day I met Tara and tell you all about how we met and how she made me feel, but I didn’t; I couldn’t. I’ve missed you Mom, for a long time now. I’ve missed our Mommy/daughter shopping days and movie nights and you cheering for me at my games. You were always my biggest fan.”

“I still am,” Sheila sniffled, “It was stupid of me to think I could change you. I just wanted you to have a normal, happy life.”

Willow sensed the shift in the conversation and realized that it was no longer about Tara’s celebrity, “This is normal to me Mom, loving a woman…I can’t explain-”

Sheila interrupted, “It might be better for both of us if you don’t right now.”

Willow nodded her head sadly and took a deep breath, “There is something else I need to tell you. I’m um, I won’t be coming home for the winter break.” She bit her bottom lip and braced herself for her mother’s reaction.

Sheila simply nodded, “I’m not surprised, in fact, I figured as much.”

Willow sat slacked jawed at Sheila’s initial reaction, she thought for sure that her mother would explode at the news. “So, you’re not mad or upset?”

“Mad, no. Upset, yes. But with everything that’s happened this week, I can hardly blame you. I’ve behaved horribly and I’m so sorry Willow.”

“I’m not the one you should be apologizing to,” Willow said.

“I know…I know. Tara seems like a very sweet girl and what she did tonight, after everything I put her through…”

Seeing the obvious torment Sheila was experiencing was heartbreaking for Willow. In a way she felt responsible, but she also knew that it was part of the process. Like her Dad said, it was something Sheila was going to have to work through on her own. “Well, if it makes you feel any better, that’s not the reason I’m not coming home.” Sheila raised her eyes questionably, “Tara has to be in New York and asked me to come along. I um…I already told Dad, earlier tonight.”

“Oh,” Sheila said opening her mouth to say something else but stopped as she noticed the rest of her family beginning to pour out of the restaurant.

Willow followed her line of sight and knew that the conversation was over. She squeezed her mother’s hand and smiled sweetly. Sheila returned the gesture and Willow couldn’t help but beam. Sheila had turned a corner and Willow could not have been happier.

“So, you guys are all going out then and you worked out the driving situation?” Sheila asked as they stood up from the bench and Willow nodded as she pointed to the Cadillac Escalade Limo that was just pulling up. “Oh…wow, well I’m glad to see that none of you are driving. Please be careful and try to keep your brother out of trouble.”

Willow giggled, knowing exactly which brother she was talking about. No one had said a word to Grayson, but they were all quite aware that Bambi was noticeably absent. “Don’t worry, we’ll keep him in line.”

As they approached the group, green eyes sought blue and when they connected, Willow could see the concern etched on Tara’s beautiful face. Willow smiled and nodded, silently letting Tara know that everything was ok as she took her hand and squeezed it tightly.

“Wow Tara…classy!” Grayson exclaimed as he pushed Willow aside and dove headfirst into the backseat of the stretch limo.

Willow’s eyes practically rolled into her head, “Nice. Ever heard of ladies first?”

Grayson ignored his sister’s protests and made himself comfortable as he began to explore all the little amenities the luxury SUV had to offer. Earlier in the day, when Grayson had mentioned going out, a heated debate had begun amongst the siblings over who would be the designated drivers and how many cars they would have to take to accommodate the large group. Tara put a quick end to the bickering by volunteering to handle the transportation.

They’d all driven with parents and grandparents to the restaurant and Tara arranged for the limo to pick them up from there. She knew it would bring them some unnecessary attention, but it was worth it to avoid the arguing. Tara knew she had made the right decision when Willow didn’t even bother to protest; simply agreeing and thanking Tara with a kiss on the cheek.

“Holy shit!” They heard Grayson exclaim from inside limo, sparking everyone’s attention.

Willow and Tara stepped back, allowing everyone to get a good look. Even the grandparents got in on the action, with both sets hopping in to examine the interior; giving the girls a moment alone.

“Hey, is everything ok?” Tara asked taking both of Willow’s hands in hers.

“Yeah, it’s all good,” She said glancing around, “I’ll um, tell you all about it later when there’s less ears around. Is that ok?” Tara nodded and started to pull away, but Willow refused to let go and stood still with a big goofy grin spread across her face.

Tara eyed Willow curiously, “What?”

Willow released Tara’s hands and cupped her cheeks instead, pulling her girlfriend forward, kissing her lips firmly and catching Tara completely of guard. Once Tara’s brain finally caught up a few seconds later, she couldn’t resist deepening the kiss, wrapping her arms around Willow and pressing their bodies firmly together.

“Wow,” Tara muttered against Willow’s lips, “What was that all about?”

“I love you Tara Maclay. You’re the kindest, most generous person I’ve ever known and I’m so in love with you.” Willow said as she softly kissed Tara once again.

“My Willow…” Tara breathed.

Willow smiled seductively, “I can’t wait to get you home tomorrow.”

“Ummm, a naked finish to the weekend?” Tara asked.

“Is there any other kind?” Willow quipped.

“HEY! Come on you two!!” Someone shouted from inside the limo.

“Shall we?” Willow asked as they said their goodbyes and piled in with the others.

Dibs!!! :kgeek :whip

Hey, Shelby! :bigwave

Welcome back, and sorry to hear about your mom. :flower

Enjoyed Willow and Tara's weariness of constant family drama and trauma and their need to get back to their own lives. Well done. Love the moment of Willow dropping wallet, phone etc. into Tara's purse and their deepening love; that was a lovely line btw.

Enjoyed Tara's picking up the check. A friend of mine had that happen at a Japanese restaurant in San Francisco where they cook your food on your table. Apparently Joe Montana had quietly picked up the check for the whole table without ever mentioning it until other people tried to pay their bill. So it was a classy move.

Sheila's changes were believable and good, glad she wasn't kept just as a two-dimensional screaming shrew. I also hope that she has the decency to talk to Tara before they part company.

This was a very intense story arc; I'm eager to see what New York has to offer. Don't know much about it except Times Square so take me back to the Big Apple!

Once again, welcome back!

It's really nice to see Shelia coming around. It reminds me of my mom and I's relationship when I first came out and a good time after. She is finally coming to terms with it and will talk about it with me, although I don't bring it up unless she does. She also adores my girlfriend and is very nice to her. I give my mom a lot of credit and I give Shelia credit too. She is trying and that's more then I can say for a lot of parents of gay children.

I love how well Molly and Tara get along. It seems like they could have a good friendship going on here :)

And I'm glad to hear there may only be minor upsetting parts to come :p but what would a story be without a little angst every now and than right?

It was very nice to sit here this morning and read this and drink my hot chocolate :) I can't wait for more.

So, I just watched "Husbands" (which I highly recommend, by the way),and I started thinking "hmm, ball player and actor? Sounds familiar!" You know, only totally different.

Anyway there's this bit in there where the head of GLAAD calls, and I started thinking about all the contemporary groups that would be calling Tara's agent, from GLAAD to NoH8 (Fuck, I'd buy that photo).

I'm excited to see what happens when they leave Texas.

Hey Shel! So glad to see you back, and very, very sorry to hear about your mom. I'll be thinking of you and wish all of you the best of luck.

Well, I have to admit that this is one of the few times that a fic actually brought tears to my eyes. Believe me, that's quite a compliment, as I've been told many times by my gf that I'm quite the hard ass. But boy, when Sheila broke down and left the restaurant, then Willow found her crying, that was just too much for my heart to take. That was absolutely perfectly written. I could feel the emotion pouring off both of them in waves. I'm so glad they finally talked and Sheila is finally coming to grips with things. Looks like Tara finally broke through that hard shell, and it's so wonderful to see after everything that went on this week.

The limo sounds awesome, and I really can't wait to see what happens with the rest of their night out.

Hang in there, and as always, I'll be looking forward to more when life lets you get around to it.

Huzzah for update-y goodness! I am very sorry to hear about you Mom :(

I totally thought I have left feed back on before this last post. I have definitely been reading and keeping up with the updates. I am absolutely loving the story still. I can't believe all this craziness with Sheila. I'm so glad she has turned a corner in this last post. She was rubbing my last nerve with her crap.

I'm curious to see what kind of scene they return to in L.A. now that they are "out" as a couple.

Can't wait to see what you have in store next!

Good vibes for your mom, you, and your family.

Good on Sheila; I've found most people who are willing to come around on things-in-general* can eventually make their peace with the choices of the people who matter to them.
Looking forward to Willow's SI interview.

Shel,

Sending lots of positive energy your way. Best wishes for you, your mom and your family.

So happy to see the family out for their last night together. Also, nice insight on some honest feelings coming from Tara about her desire to get back to her home and the everyday craziness that is her life. Amazing turnaround for Sheila. So, glad that Tara was able to work her magic on Sheila's heart. Now, Willow can leave knowing that all the heartache that occured on the trip can be left in the past and she can focus on building a future with Tara.

Take care and looking forward to your next post when RL give you the time. Kitten love.

Wow. First off, Tara's generosity is just too cute and her reactions to Nana's questions about her 'lifestyle' are so human and a slightly annoyed Tara is always something I love to see more of.

With Sheila's coming around you manage to convey the start of healing and the dull ache that usually goes with it, mixing hope with pain. This is admittedly one of the first times in this fic where I've come to view Sheila as a human being who struggles and not some horrid gorgon/dragon thing that is trying to stomp out our rainbows, so kudos for that, too.

Another amazing chapter. I love these moments when Willow or Tara just pause somehow and marvel about the depth of their love. I'm glad that Sheila finally came around. It's a promising start for the long process of reestablishing the former close mother-daughter-band. Now I'm curious what's gonig to happen at the party (hopefully no accidental meeting with Robby, but that would probably be more angst than you promised).

I really hope your mom will be well again soon. Although we all love the frequent updates, take all the time you need, no pressure!

First and most important - I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. I have been there and it is very hard. If you need anything, you know how to reach me.

I like this update. They are very sweet together. Why are they taking keys though? I get wallet and cell phone (although I would leave my phone if my girlfriend and every person in my family was with me but still) but does Willow need keys? Anyway....

I have mixed feelings about Tara's picking up the ticket. I absolutely think it was a class move on her part and she handled it well. That said, Ira took it right and was gracious. But he could have been offended in a very small "who does she think she is? We don't need charity..." sort of way. I'm glad he didn't take it that way. Sheila was obviously upset and should have still said thank you in spite of her upset. I'm glad that she finally gets that Willow is a. gay and b. really in love with Tara. It seems like a good step.

I bet the kids have a great time out dancing. I hope it won't be too much of a zoo.

Hi Shelby, It's great to see you back on the board again. :bigwave I hope your mom isn't too ill and that she gets well again soon.

Poor Willow and Tara, they both sound like they're in pretty crappy places at the start of this chapter, it's a good thing that they have each other.

Awww, you really know how to touch the heart of this old softy dont ya Shel.

I really like the fact that Willow can always talk to her father about anything. It's kinda interesting that while she wishes she could look as glamorous as Tara, Tara probably wishes that she had siblings or parents that she could talk to or hang with Like WIllow has Hunter. Each girl has something that the other secretly desires, but now they're together forever these things can be shared.

Hmmm, they're going to be on S N L eh. Does this mean that they're going to be in comedy sketches on the show???

And finally a big YAY to Sheila. She started out as possibly one the biggest beeyatches in fan-fic land and now we see her for who she truly is. A loving mother who is worried, and possibly more than a little scared, for her youngest daughter and her relationship.

Hey Shelby. So nice to see an update and this was really sweet. I actually said 'aww' at one point out loud.

I was a little nervous about the dinner and Tara's gesture was so sweet. I loved it and how she went about the whole thing. It wasn't a big production. Just a token of thanks. I love Willow's relationship with her dad. It's so believable and a real breath of fresh air. And even the shift in Shelia was great to read. It wasn't forced. It felt real and I'm glad Willow's not going to be leaving TX with a HUGE chasm between her and her mom.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you have in store for the next update but I know you have other things on your mind. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Anya: I don't like the sound of this. They don't sound very ex-demon compatible.
Tara: Are you sure they're English? I thought English people were, um, gentler than uh... normal people.

Ariel:
Hey Julie!

Ahh yes, the weariness of far too much time spent with family. I think we call all say…been there – done that. Sometimes the best part of a vacation spent visiting relatives is going home.

Tara picking up the check I think really shows how much she appreciated just being a part of something, that she felt was bigger than her and even thought Sheila showed her ass on more than one occasion, it still meant something to Tara.

I’m glad you thought that Sheila’s turn around wasn’t out of the blue. She was never meant to be a two-dimensional character, but I could see that she was heading in that direction. What I really wanted to come through was that, for the last three years since Willow came out to her, she basically ignored it (complete denile)…until Willow got a serious girlfriend thus thrusting her into panic mode making her act irrationally. Which is exactly what happened. So now she’s past the initial panic; seeing that her efforts were futile at best; pushing her into mild acceptance mode. Did that make any sense? In other words…she has a ways to go, lol.

grrrr see if I play PS3 I miss dibs!!!! Wow I was so engrossed in Skyrim
You’re addicted!

Yes! Sheila finally gives in a bit and realizes that she has no choice but to accept Willow and try to move on. It’s a slow process, but it’s good to see her on that track.

Tara is very generous and certainly has the money to back up said generosity. I’m sure the closer the girls get, the more we’ll see these small gestures:)

I for one am thrilled they are heading back to LA!!

Thanks for the feedback!

wildmind:
I’m glad that Sheila’s coming around is believable. I know that her theatrics were a little over the top, but underneath there’s more to it. As I said to Ariel above, it’s a process. First she ignored the truth, then she panicked, now she’s learning to deal. As do most parents when met with something out of their control. And yes I agree, a good many parents don’t even bother trying.

We don’t know all that much about Molly, but maybe we’ll learn more later… :hmm

I have to throw in a little angst here and there, because otherwise I think it would get a little boring. But nothing too over the top, lol.

Thanks for the feedback!

zampsa19752001:
Yep, at least she didn’t wait until the last minute like she did with telling them that Tara was coming with her to Texas.

Thanks for the feedback!

BeMyDeputy:
Maybe Jane Espenson reads the KB?? Just sayin.’ I keep saying that I need to watch it and then forget all about it. I guess I just need to do it.

I think when they get back to LA, it’s gonna be craziness.

Thanks for the feedback!

wimpy0729:
Awww, you cried? Now that makes me tear up. Thanks so much for the kind words and I’m really glad you liked it. It was very important to me for it to come across exactly as you described: Emotional. Because coming to terms with something big IS emotional. Sheila’s not over the hump yet, but it’s a start!

I guarantee fun and chaos for the big night out!

Thanks for the feedback!

woo and a hooo..thats all I got to say..wooo and a hooo
Back at cha!

Thanks for the feedback!!!

leos_pride:
So glad that you’re still liking and sticking with my ‘little’ fic. ;-)

Yes, the corner has finally been turned, now all Sheila has to do is accept who Willow has chosen as her partner. That part might take a little longer, lol.

Thanks for the feedback!!

DaddyCatAlso:
Sheila took a big step and now all she has to do is put one foot in front of the other! Well, see how that goes

Thanks for the feedback!

True_Love:
Tara is definitely anxious to get back home. For one the drama is making her crazy and also a lack of quality Willow time is making her a bit depressed, I think.

Sheila has made a turn, but she also has a ways to go. She likes Tara, but I don’t think it was the Maclay charm that turned her. I really feel like it was the fear of completely losing Willow that eventually forced her hand. Not to mention the fact that Tara stood her ground. I think it would have played out totally different if Tara had gotten fed up and left or even it they’d both gone to stay elsewhere. We would not be seeing this change right now if that was the case.

Thanks for the feedback!

faolan228:
Yeah, I really don’t think there’s anything more awkward and annoying than when a grandmother corners you with the third degree, lol. Even out sweet Tara is not completely immune.

This is admittedly one of the first times in this fic where I've come to view Sheila as a human being who struggles and not some horrid gorgon/dragon thing that is trying to stomp out our rainbows
I have to say, this made me lol. I love your view on things. :grin I also get what your saying and agree. Sheila is not a monster, hell she wasn’t even that bad in canon, more clueless than anything else and especially here. She was in complete denial and then in walks this woman that her daughter is clearly smitten with, that didn’t fold under pressure and you have a panicked mother willing to do anything to force her hand. I think now she realizes that she risks losing her child and finally caves under the pressure. She’ll get there…though it will take time.

Thanks for the feedback!

Wills redemption:
Thanks! Sheila will need time, but it’s a good start. For her it’s been about acceptance and how to deal with Willow not being what she expected and for Willow it’s been about loss. She, essentially, lost her mother and she wants her back, but wants the acceptance and not lust tolerance. They’ll get there…it’ll just take time.

The night out is all good and no Robby sightings:)

Thanks for the feedback!

JustSkipIt:
Thanks Deb…that I do! ;-)

Why are they taking keys though?
Just habit, I guess? But they’ll be coming home late and maybe Willow needs them to get into the house. Although, I doubt they lock door out in the country, but who knows. The phone, well…one never leaves their phone no matter what. lol

I think that Tara knew Ira wouldn’t take it that way or she wouldn’t have done it in the first place. The fact that she didn’t make it a big production out of it and as far as everyone else knew Ira had paid, really showed that the gesture was sincere.

Thanks for the feedback!

willowtaralover:
Hi Rick!

Yeah, I think they’re both just really ready to go home and get back to their lives. It’s been a rollercoaster week for them both.

Willow is most definitely a Daddy’s girl. I think the boys we’re always into something and it kept Sheila pretty busy, leaving Willow for Daddy:) I don’t know that Willow necessarily wants to be more glamorous, I think she just feels a little guilty that she’s not and doesn’t want to embarrass Tara. I think that down the road a ways, we’ll see Willow clean up a bit in her everyday life. She can’t really get away with the everyday gal look much longer, but we’ll see. Kinda like she did in canon and how she ditched the overall after high school. Although, they were so adorable.

Tara is going to do a cameo appearance on SNL, but I don’t know if Willow will yet or not. Can you see a little of me seeping in here? Lol Ugh, how much fun would that be?!

I told ya’ll that Sheila would eventually come around!

Thanks for the feedback!!

fhiwda:
One update at your service!

beautiful_love:
Awww, yay!

Those family gatherings have been slightly nerve wracking, haven’t they? I think they are calming down though and I’m sure everyone appreciates that. Like I said above to willowtaralover, I think that Sheila was so involved with the three boys that Willow just naturally gravitated to Ira and since she was the baby, he doted on her:)

I’m glad you liked the shift in Sheila, it’s a process and she needs time but it’s a start.

Fun will be had by all in the next update!

AUTHOR’S NOTE: Hi Everyone and Happy Valentine’s Day!! :luv :love I seriously hope that ya’ll are NOT reading this update, but instead enjoying a lovely romantic day with your someone special. :flower We celebrated yesterday…my wife is working overtime today, boo! So, I have a date with my daughter instead:)

On a serious note…I wanted to thank you all for your kind words and positive energy regarding my Mom. It’s been a tough time for all of us and unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’s going to improve anytime soon. My Mom’s condition is slowly worsening and the doctors are not hopeful. Maybe she’ll pull out a miracle…we’ll see.

Anyway, the next chapter just kinda ties things up in Texas and sends our girls back to LA. It’s not beta’d or proofed, so I’m sure you’ll see a few mistakes…even though I proofed it about fifty times. :p

**On a side note…remember when Tara fired Kelly before they left for Texas?? Well, I got some mixed feedback where in it was mentioned that Tara’s actions were a little harsh and she should have given Kelly another chance. Well, how many of you saw the 60 Minute interview with Adele before the Grammy’s? She actually admitted to planting fake stories to see who was leaking information and then firing them immediately. Anyway, I laughed when she said it and I kinda felt like Tara’s actions were vindicated, even if Tara is just a fictional character. :p

Chapter 58: The Long Goodbye

With everyone securely in the limo, the driver began to slowly pull away.

“So, where we headed?” Eli asked. “Red River?”

“Nah,” Grayson replied, “That place doesn’t pick up until later. We’ll hit it on the way back.”

“On the way back from where?” Rachael eyed her brother curiously.

Grayson held his head high, “Downtown. We can bar hop better when they’re closer together.”

“How many places are we going and how long do you plan to stay out? Willow and Tara have a plane to catch tomorrow, you know.”

“And you need your ‘beauty sleep,’ blah, blah. Rach, I told you to bring your OWN car for this very reason!” Grayson spat at his older sister.

“Hey! I’m not complaining, I’m just asking a question!”

“Here we go, that didn’t even take five minutes…it’s gonna be a long night.” Hunter smirked, sharing a knowing look with Elijah while leaning back into the leather seat and putting his arm lovingly around his girlfriend.

Tara sighed, mirroring Hunter’s moves as she felt Willow snuggle into her side. “Have I told you how much I love this outfit?” She whispered in Willow’s ear.

Willow grinned, “No, but feel free.”

Tara shook her head and laughed out loud, sparking Grayson’s attention. Rachael was in the middle of a sentence when he turned his head away from her completely, “Hey Tara…”

“Hmm?” Tara replied, looking up at Grayson.

“What kind of car do you drive?” He asked out of the blue.

“Umm, why?” Tara was a bit thrown.

“What kind of car do you drive? Just curious.”

“Oh um, a Lexus.” The blonde answered.

Grayson raised his eyebrows expectantly, “And…which model?”

Tara sighed, “An RX450 Hybrid.”

“I KNEW IT!” Grayson shouted, raising his fist triumphantly.

“Knew what?” Willow asked.

“That your girlfriend drives a hybrid. Everyone in Hollywood drives some sort of hybrid because they think it’s ‘PC,’ when they really want to drive a souped up BMW or a Ferrari.”

“What makes you think Tara even wants to drive a Ferrari? She’s not really the Ferrari type.” Willow said sarcastically to her meddling brother. She was now leaning forward, arms across her knees and fully engaged in the conversation.

Tara pulled her arm from behind Willow and rested her hands in her lap, listening as all the siblings were now involved in a raucous conversation involving various cars and events surrounding previously owned cars. She watched Willow, amused as the redhead laughed and periodically leaned over to give Hunter’s shoulder a friendly shove.

Tara took the moment to reflect on the week that had passed and how much she’d grown to love Willow’s family, despite everything that had gone on. They had accepted her into the fold and it meant everything to Tara. She planned on hanging on to Willow for a very long time and whether she wanted to admit it or not, their approval of her was very important. Tara smiled as she glanced between all of the siblings; they were so different, yet their strong bond kept them close despite the differences and tonight those differences were particularly evident by way of clothing alone. Tara giggled inwardly, she looked at the three boys sitting side by side; reminding her of The Village People.

Her eyes landed on Hunter first, the mild mannered music teacher dressed in khaki pants, a long sleeve button down shirt, and brown belt with matching brown loafers. He and Willow were the most alike, sharing the same red hair and thin build; not to mention they were both studious and organized.

Her gaze then shifted to Elijah; the down home boy that oozed Texas from his pours. He wore scuffed up cowboy boots, a pair of well-worn skintight wrangler jeans, a wide leather belt with a large buckle and western style long sleeve button down shirt firmly tucked into his pants. Eli’s ensemble was topped off with a black Stetson, much to Grayson’s chagrin. The eldest Rosenberg boy had made it quite clear early on that he did not approve of his brothers attire, to which Elijah just grinned; hooking his thumbs in his pockets and striking a pose.

Tara had to admit that she got a kick out of Grayson’s ridiculous behavior and his obsession with his appearance. He was definitely the most ‘metro’ of the bunch. His hair was perfectly quaffed, his eyebrows professionally waxed and his attire perfectly pressed. He wore a pair of expensive stone washed jeans, with black shoes, a white button down with a loose fitted tie, a gray suit vest and a black leather jacket. He looked like he just stepped out of a men’s fashion magazine. Reminding Tara of a cross between Justin Timberlake and David Beckham; the differences between the three boys was striking and this was the first time Tara had really noticed. She imagined that Rachael was a more middle of the road gal and practical dresser, but it was hard to tell since she’d only seen her in maternity clothing.

Tara’s eyes finally fell on Willow, who looked particularly beautiful. She was wearing black tights with knee high black boots, a semi-short olive green mini skirt and a fitted black sweater that hugged her body in all the right places. For the first couple weeks of their relationship, Tara had only seen the girl in sweats, with no make-up and mismatched t-shirts with various cartoon character or funny sayings on the front; which matched her playful and laid back personality perfectly. Except then they went out and Willow had transformed into a hot, sexy and gorgeous young woman. She definitely cleans up well. Tara thought. She imagined that she would remain entranced with Willow’s numerous looks for the rest of her life and she couldn’t wait to see them all…adorable Willow, sexy Willow, playful Willow, practical Willow, athletic Willow… Tara was lost in happy Willow-land with a sappy smile plastered across her face when she suddenly noticed the conversation stopped and everyone was staring at her.

“Um…sorry. What were we talking about?” She asked sheepishly, causing the entire group to burst out laughing.

******************************

About thirty minutes later they arrived at their destination, Crush, a large three story club in the downtown bar district. The street was lined with cars and the sidewalk in front of the club was lined with people. Tara asked the driver to drop them about a half a block down from the club, as not to bring them unnecessary attention. She knew if they made a grand entrance she would be swamped with fans all night. The gang agreed and they made their way into the bar with little fanfare.

As they entered through the inner doors of the club, they each pulled out their id’s to be carded by the burly bouncer, who was also collecting the cover and stamping hands with fluorescent ink. Willow provided her drivers license and was passed through as she paid the cover for herself and for Tara as well. As she stood patiently waiting, Tara handed her license to bouncer. He scanned over the card and froze momentarily; slowly shifting his eyes from the card to Tara’s face. The young man eyed Tara suspiciously and looked back and forth between the license and Tara for what seemed like forever. He finally made the connection and his eyes grew wide; his hand shaking slightly as he handed the card back to the actress. Tara smiled sweetly as she retrieved her card from his thick fingers. She then leaned forward placing a soothing hand on his arm and whispering in his ear, causing the man laugh out loud and immediately putting him at ease.

“No problem,” The bouncer said as he nodded and pointed towards the back of the bar. He gave Tara some brief instructions before picking up his walkie-talkie and mumbling into the device. Tara gave his arm a gentle squeeze and mouthed ‘thank you’ before she took Willow’s hand and proceeded into the dimly lit club.

“Everything ok?” Willow asked.

“Umm hmm, I just wanted to make sure we avoid a mob scene.” Willow nodded in agreement as she leaned forward and gently kissed Tara on the cheek.

The club was loud, dark and tightly packed with people as the large group plodded towards the bar with Grayson leading the way. Before they reached their destination, a tall man in a suit approached Grayson; shaking his hand and whispering into his ear. Grayson smiled and motioned for the group to follow was they were lead by the man through the crowd, up two flights of stairs and towards the back to a semi private section of the club where several tall empty tables and couches awaited.

“Damn, I could get used to this!” Grayson exclaimed as he took a seat at one of the tables.

The young man in the suit approached Tara, “Miss Maclay, it’s a pleasure to meet you,” He said as he offered his hand to Tara. “My name is Mike, I’m the manager and if there’s anything you need, please don’t hesitate to ask.”

“Hi Mike, Thank you and his is my girlfriend, Willow Rosenberg.” Tara smiled as she shook Mike’s hand and introduced Willow; wanting to make sure he knew Willow was on equal footing, “Um there is one thing, my friends and I just want to relax and have a good time. So if we could just keep this quiet…” She said smiling up at the man.

Mike nodded, “No problem, I’m assigning my best hostess to you tonight and I also have Jimmy staying close to make sure that you aren’t bothered.” Mike looked towards a large man in jeans and a t-shirt hanging out at the end of the upstairs bar. “Again, if there’s anything I can do for you or Miss Rosenberg…”

“Thanks Mike, this is perfect, really.” Tara reassured.

“Ok then, enjoy your evening.” Mike smiled and retreated towards the bar; checking in with Jimmy and giving the hostess brief instructions before making his way back downstairs.

Tara slid the strap of her purse and her jacket over the back of a chair and then excused herself to the restroom while Willow stayed behind to help move the tables together so they wouldn’t be spread all over the room. By the time Tara returned, Willow had a strawberry margarita waiting for her with a glass of ice water and a shot of tequila that Grayson had ordered for everyone.

Tara slid into her seat next to her girlfriend eying the glasses in front of her, “Well, this is going to be an interesting night.” She mumbled.

Willow laughed out loud and Grayson picked up his shot glass and hoisted it into the air, “Ok everyone, bottoms up!” He exclaimed as he downed the shot and then chased it with a long swig of Jack Daniels. Willow picked up Tara’s hand; licking the back seductively and shaking an ample amount of salt on the moistened spot. Tara did the same to Willow as they grinned at each other, tapped their shot glasses together and guzzled their shots with salt and lime. They both made scrunched up faces and reached for their respective glasses of ice water at the same time.

“Light weights!” Grayson exclaimed laughing hardily.

Tara coughed several times and Willow patted her on the back. “You ok?” The redhead asked.

Tara nodded in return as she took another sip of water, “Yeah, it was just strong and how come you’re not having the same reaction?”

Willow laughed as she soothingly rubbed Tara’s back, “College student, remember? I practically major in alcoholic consumption. Not to mention, I had to learn how to keep up with these guys a long time ago.”

“Well then, I guess I need to catch up,” Tara said.

“That’s the spirit!” Eli chimed in as he tapped Tara’s margarita with his beer bottle.

The group talked, laughed and drank for quite some time before Grayson suddenly jumped up from his seat. “I LOVE this song! Come on, let’s dance!”

“It figures,” Willow mumbled as she looked at Tara expectantly.

After gulping down the last bit of her drink, Tara nodded her head and they locked hands as they headed for the dance floor with the others. Tara was definitely feeling the effects of the tequila as she entered the crowded dance floor and began to unconsciously move to the beat. Her hips began to sway as she encircled her hands around Willow’s neck and pulled her close.

Willow was also feeling tingly from the drinks and Tara’s actions just exacerbated her situation as she placed her hands gently on Tara’s hips. After a few awkward seconds, their bodies fell into sync as they danced the night away.

Several hours and three bars later, they found themselves at the Red River Saloon; a perennial country hot spot near Willow’s hometown. All of the women in the group had finished their last drinks about thirty minutes ago, but the men were still going strong. Including Jeff, who was currently nursing a beer after doing several shots.

“Oooh, he’s gonna be sorry in the morning,” Tara said observing Jeff as she took a sip of water.

“Umm hmm, especially if he throws up on Rachael’s carpet,” Willow added, “He’ll get no sympathy from her.” Willow said getting a round of laughs from the girls. They were all fairly buzzed, but by no means drunk. Jeff, however, had been left to his own devices for the last hour after Rachael retired to the limo for some much needed rest.

Grayson sauntered over between Willow and Tara; draping his arms sloppily across their shoulders and pressing himself close.

“Hello ladies! What’s the what?” He asked with a distinctive slur in his voice.

“God Grayson, get off!” Willow exclaimed as she threw his arm off her shoulder.

“You’re no fun, but I know what’s gonna make yoooou smiiiile!” He grinned as a new song began to play. “Come on sis, you can’t resist it! You know you waaaant toooooo!!!”

Willow rolled her eyes and shook her head laughing as she watched her brother start to dance goofily in front of her and try to lure her on to the dance floor. She glanced over at Hunter, who was grinning widely and nodding his head as he jumped up and motioned for Willow to join them. Finally succumbing to the beat, Willow also jumped up. “You comin’ Tare?”

“Umm no, I think I’ll sit this one out,” She said as she shifted in her seat for a better view of the dance floor.

“Ok suit yourself!” Willow kissed Tara on the cheek and quickly joined her brothers and about twenty other bar patrons for their favorite line dance.

Tara sat with Molly and Stella as they watched the siblings shuffle and glide across the dance floor; executing the moves perfectly and having an all around great time. It was the happiest Tara had seen her girlfriend in the last several days and she was glad that they were ending their visit on a high note.

When the song finally finished, Willow came bounding back to their table as the DJ announced last call. “You were awesome sweetie! You’ll have to teach it to me someday.” Tara said as she took Willow’s hands and pulled her close; he alcohol residual fueling her bold public behavior.

Willow let her self be pulled forward between Tara’s knees, “Thanks baby!” She said as she wrapped her arms around Tara’s neck and kissed her gently on the lips; completely forgetting where they were. “Ummm,” She breathed as she pulled back and rested her forehead on Tara’s. The two of them were completely lost in their own little world.

“Hey,” Hunter said, “Where’s Jeff?” Everyone began glancing around the bar and shrugging their shoulders when they failed to locate their brother in law.

“I think I remember seeing him go to the bathroom about ten minutes ago,” Stella said.

“Ah shit, Rachael’s gonna kill us!” Eli exclaimed, his eyes darting between Hunter and Grayson.

Hunter sighed deeply, “I’ll go,” He said as he rose from the bar stool and headed towards the men’s room. Only to emerge several minutes later with a sour look on his face. “Yep, he’s still in there…praying to the porcelain God.”

“Having a conversation with good ol’ Uncle Hurl?” Eli joked.

“And Cousin Ralph?” Grayson added; both comments getting a round of giggles.

“Damn, Rachael’s gonna be pissed. Someone needs to go back in there and get him.” Willow said as she eyed her brothers. The boys all looked at each other as if Willow was speaking a foreign language. “Well?”

“Fine!” They grumbled in unison as the three of them turned and set off to retrieve their drunken brother in law from the men’s room floor.

“Well, I guess the party’s over,” Molly said as she began to gather her things.

Tara looked up at Willow, giving her one last peck on the lips, “I’ll see if the bartender can give us a garbage bag or something for the ride home.”

“Good thinking,” Willow nodded and stepped back as Tara began to move towards the bar.

Several minutes later, Willow noticed that Tara still had not returned and saw that she’d become trapped at the bar; signing autographs and taking photos with various patrons. Good grief, we really need to get out of here. Willow thought, just as her brothers emerged from the restroom with a very drunk Jeff.

Jeff’s head bobbed loosely from side to side, his face was a pale green and the front of his shirt was soaking wet as he staggered between Eli and Hunter; his arms loosely tossed over their shoulders for support. Grayson followed behind the threesome with a roll of paper towels.

Willow made her way quickly over to Tara, “Sorry guys, we have to go.” She said sweetly to the group of young men that were drooling over her girlfriend. A resounding grumble came from the crowd as Willow began to pull Tara away.

“Bye and thanks for the bag, it was nice meetin’ ya’ll!” Tara shouted over her shoulder as Willow pulled her away.

“Tare,” Willow whined, “What are you doing?”

“Getting a bag,” Tara replied waving the bag in Willow’s face with her free hand. She had a giddy inflection in her voice and Willow could tell that she was obviously still a bit tipsy.

Willow stopped suddenly and Tara slammed into her, “Woah, are you ok?”

Tara grinned sappily, “I am now,” She said, pressing her body tightly against Willow’s and running a hand under the back of Willow’s sweater.

“Oh God,” Willow breathed. She herself was still slightly buzzed, although apparently not as much as Tara, and feeling Tara’s hand on her bare skin made her shiver with anticipation. She hadn’t noticed any difference in Tara while they were sitting down; figuring it must have hit Tara when she stood up. Willow shivered again when she felt Tara’s breath tickle her neck, “Come on drunkard, let’s get you home.”

“Hey, I’m not drunk! Maybe a little buzzed-” Tara started to protest but was stopped by Willow’s lips on hers with a gentle kiss. “Mmhh.” She moaned rewarding Willow with a lopsided smile as they resumed walking towards the exit. Their arms were tightly wrapped around the other as they walked; whispering and giggling the entire way. They were both downright giddy by the time they reached the limo, forgetting the entire reason they were forced to leave the bar early…until they heard Rachael’s shrill voice piercing the cool night air.

Rachael was standing next to Jeff with her hands on her hips yelling incoherently at the man, while he leaned forward and vomited into some nearby bushes.

“Ewww,” Tara groaned closing her eyes and burying her head in the crook of Willow’s neck, “Here’s the bag,” She said as she thrust her arm forward towards Grayson; keeping her face firmly implanted in her girlfriends neck.

“I second that and raise you a yuck!” Willow said as she embraced Tara, shielding her face and turning their backs to the scene unfolding in front of them.

“Reminds me of your birthday last year in New Orleans,” Grayson said to Willow’s back.

“Yeah and don’t forget New Years Eve 2009,” Hunter added.

“Or his bachelor party,” Eli chimed in as they boys all looked at each other and began to laugh.

“I heard that and stop laughing!” Rachael shouted from some twenty feet away. “I told you guys to keep an eye on him, but you NEVER listen to me!”

“Hey, we’re not his personal babysitters…that’s YOUR job!” Grayson shot back sarcastically.

“Not helping Gray,” Willow said, with her back still turned. She looked up and noticed that some of the group from the bar, that Tara had been chatting with earlier, had apparently followed them outside and was now headed in their direction. “Come on baby, let’s get in the car.” She said as she pulled Tara towards the door.

As they stepped past Hunter, several bright flashes lit up the night sky. Luckily they were just trying to get pictures of Tara and Willow and not paying any attention to Jeff.

“Here we go again,” Molly said as she caught Stella’s eye, “We need to get out of here before things get crazy like yesterday.”

“Plus, Tara doesn’t need the bad press either,” Stella said as she nodded towards Jeff; still bent forward into the poor unsuspecting bushes.

Eli, having heard the conversation, snatched the paper towels and garbage bag out of Grayson’s hands and walked towards his sister. “Rach, we gotta get, before he ends up on the cover of People magazine.”

Rachael saw the gathering group of bar patrons and nodded, “Come on honey,” she said quietly as she rubbed her husband’s back. “Feeling better?” She asked as he stood and wiped his face with a paper towel that Eli had handed him.

“Umm hmm,” He groaned, somehow managing to get himself together and make it into the limo without incident. Once inside with the car door closed, however, Jeff lost control once again; burying his face in the garbage bag to a chorus of disgusted groans from his family.

*********************************

“Well, that was the longest ride ever,” Willow turning towards Tara after they both showered and settled into bed for the night.

“Ummm,” Tara agreed, “Maybe even worse than Thanksgiving night with Aunt Gert.”

Willow chuckled as she snuggled closer to Tara, “Yeah and I didn’t think anything could get much worse than that. Poor limo driver, it’s gonna take him awhile to get that smell outta there and the carpet’s gonna have to be professionally cleaned.”

“That’s why I gave him an extra large tip and told him to just bill me for the cleaning.”

Willow frowned, “I’m sorry Tare, I’m sure Rachael won’t mind paying for it. If you just give me the bill, I can send it to her and-”

“Ssshhh, it’s ok love. Besides, it was worth it…I had so much fun tonight.”

“You did? Really?”

“Really,” Tara said as she wove her fingers through Willow’s semi wet hair and kissed her forehead gently. “So, back in LA tomorrow and back to the grind on Monday.”

Willow shifted and propped herself up on her elbow, “Tare, I um…I kind of screwed up.” She said as she twisted her face in a grimace.

“What’s wrong sweetie?” Tara was puzzled at Willow’s new revelation.

“See, with everything going on I completely forgot to ask you, but um, I have a formal softball banquet next Saturday night and I know it’s the shortest of short notices, but I was um…I was hoping that you would be my date?” Willow asked in a high, squeaky voice.

“You are just the cutest thing ever,” Tara whispered as she ran her hand down Willow’s arm. “But the question should be, why wouldn’t I be your date?”

Willow smiled sheepishly, “Well, it’s just that it’s really short notice and I wasn’t sure if you were free or not.”

Tara thought for a minute and smiled, “I don’t remember having anything specific, but if I do, I guess I’ll just have to cancel it then, won’t I?”

“Tara you don’t have to-” Willow was interrupted by soft plump lips on her own.

Tara broke the kiss and looked at Willow with sleepy blue eyes, “It’s not even a question, I’m always free for you, ok? Besides, doing formal events is…kind of my thing,” She said as she let out a deep yawn.

Willow smiled down at the woman she loved so dearly, “Sleepy baby?”

“Umm hmm…snuggles?” Tara asked is the sleepiest of sleepy voices.

“Absolutely,” Willow smiled, cupping Tara’s cheek and kissing her gently. “I love you Tara.”

Once again Tara’s sleepy blue eyes were trained on Willow, “I love you too Will.”

Tara awoke the next morning to the sound of her cell phone alarm. The morning seemed to come quickly and Tara was none too pleased. She’d slept hard and sound, realizing that she was still in a mini post-drunken stupor when she felt a dull thudding in her head. She reached for her girlfriend, but was met with an empty space instead.

“Will?” Tara said as she sat up and peered around the room. It was empty; no Willow. Glancing to her right, Tara noticed a glass of water, two small pills and a note.

Morning Sweetie! I’m out at the barn with Artemis. I left you a couple ibuprofens; I needed them when I woke up and figured you’d need them as well. Don’t forget everyone’s coming for breakfast and we need to leave for the airport by ten-thirty. Love you! ~Will xoxo

Tara smiled at the cuteness that was Willow. She had never known anyone that was as sweet and caring as the redhead. Tara folded up the note, leaned over the side of the bed and tucked it safely in her purse. She cherished everything that Willow gave her and wanted to make sure she didn’t lose it.

Tara slung her long slender legs over the side of the bed, popping the pills in her mouth and taking a large swig of water to wash them down. She pulled on some jeans, a white t-shirt and one of Willow’s numerous hooded jackets. Some thick socks and a pair of boots to round out the ensemble. Tara walked the short distance to the window and pulled open the curtains to reveal a beautiful and crisp fall morning. Off in the distance, she spotted Willow and Artemis galloping across the open pasture. It was a magical sight and Tara watched for several moments while she put her hair up in a ponytail before heading downstairs.

The house was still and it appeared that she was the only one up. After making a pot of coffee, she took her steaming hot mug out to the back porch and sat on the swing; enjoying the solitude before the family was to arrive. Several minutes later she heard the backdoor creek as Sheila emerged on to the porch.

“Morning Tara, do you mind if I join you?” Sheila asked as she motioned towards the chair next to Tara.

“Of course not,” The blonde replied and smiled warmly.

“You know, Willow has always hated being alone, except when she rides.” Sheila lamented as she sipped her coffee; gazing across the pasture watching her youngest daughter off in the distance. “She shared a room with Hunter until she was about five, that’s when we finished the attic for Rachael so Grayson could have his own room and we moved Hunter in with Eli. The move also left Willow with her own room as well and she hated it. Every night she would get up, drag her blanket and pillow in the boys’ room and either crawl in bed with Hunter or sleep on the floor between them.”

Tara smiled, “How long did that last?”

“Let’s see…when was the last time she was here?” Sheila said with a giggle causing Tara to laugh as well. They fell into a comfortable silence until Sheila cleared her throat, “Tara, I um, I wanted to thank you for last night. It was very nice of you and I’m sorry that I didn’t say something before now.”

Tara nodded, “Your w-welcome,” Answering nervously.

Sheila sighed deeply, “I also wanted to apologize for my behavior this week. I’m not really sure what came over me and I just, I didn’t give you a chance.”

Tara was surprised, but unwilling to give Sheila a free pass. A part of her wanted to say, ‘It’s ok, I understand,’ and another part of her wanted to say, “Yes, you did act horribly and I’m glad you finally came to your senses.’ In the end, Tara decided to remain silent and allow Sheila to continue.

“Tara you have to understand, I only want what’s best for Willow. Sometimes she doesn’t always see the big picture.”

“I do understand, but that’s not up to either one of us. It’s up to Willow to decide what’s best for her.” From the look on Sheila’s face Tara could tell that she hit a nerve, she just hoped that it didn’t spark another outburst.

If Sheila had hoped for Tara to acquiesce to her point of view, she was sadly mistaken. There was simply no way that was going to happen. Sheila nodded and smiled in Tara’s direction, although the smile didn’t quite reach her eyes. “Well, I’d better get started on breakfast, everyone will be arriving soon…” Her voice trailed off as she rose from her chair and headed back inside; the two women silently agreeing to disagree.

With Tara’s coffee now cold, she sat the half full cup on a small end table and decided to go in search of her girlfriend. She’d seen Willow trotting towards the barn, but the redhead had disappeared and Tara was curious as to what she was up to.

Tara crossed the yard and entered the barn, expecting to see Willow putting things away, but the barn was quite and empty. She continued through the barn and out the back doors when she spotted Willow and was struck with a sudden wave of emotion. Willow was lying across the horses’ back with her eyes closed, her feet pulled up behind her and her cheek resting against the thick mane. She was idly stroking Artemis’ long neck as the mare grazed in a small patch of grass. It was a beautiful sight and Tara couldn’t resist pulling a small digital camera out of her jacket pocket and snapping a quick picture.

Tara replaced the camera in her pocket and began making her way towards the redhead when she noticed the sun glistening on Willow’s cheeks. The girl was crying silently and the tears were dripping down her face and onto the horses’ dark mane. Tara’s heart constricted in her chest; she hated to see Willow cry.

“Will,” Tara said as she approached as not to startle her girlfriend.

Willow opened her teary eyes, but did not shift her position, “Hey.”

Tara reached up and lightly caressed Willow’s side and lower back, “Hey, are you ok?”

“Umm hmm, it’s just…it’s hard for me to leave her. I miss her so much,” The redhead sniffled.

Tara attempted to swallow the lump in her throat and push her emotions aside, “Oh sweetie,” Tara said as she gently wiped the tears from Willow’s face. “Can you um, can you take me for one last ride?” She asked hopefully.

Willow nodded; smiling genuinely as she pulled herself up right on Artemis’ back, “Come over to the fence.” She motioned as she walked Artemis over and helped Tara mount the horse behind her.

Tara slid easily onto the horse and snug up against Willow’s back. It was the first time she’d been on the horse without a saddle and she locked her arms around Willow’s waist.

“Don’t worry baby, I’ll keep you safe,” Willow smiled, turning her head and kissing Tara on the lips.

“Ummmm, good morning,” Tara mumbled.

“Yes, very,” Willow replied and she left another quick kiss on Tara’s lips, then turned and began walking the horse slowly around the pasture.

They rode and talked for sometime before finally dismounting and releasing Artemis to graze. They showered and finished some last minute packing before joining Willow’s family for breakfast. Everyone was there and chatting happily when the girls arrived; except for Jeff, who had a very valid excuse for his absence. Even Molly had come, since Hunter had spent the night at her apartment. They all sat around the large dining room table chatting, laughing and telling stories from the night before as they filled themselves with a multitude of delicious breakfast foods. Sheila and Adele had gone all out and made eggs, bacon, sausage, and pancakes for the large brood. The atmosphere was more relaxed and happy than it had been the entire trip and the girls were extremely grateful.

Before long it was time to begin the process of saying their goodbyes as they made their rounds with hugs, kisses and a few tears, before the boys loaded their luggage into Hunter's car and they set off for the airport. Willow was uncharacteristically quiet as she laid her head against the backseat; watching the landscape as it passed by. Tara held her hand supportively and rubbed soothing circles with her thumb while conversing quietly with Hunter and Molly. Before long they arrived at the airport and Hunter pulled to the curb; jumping out to help with their bags before sending them on their way.

“Tara, it was really great to meet you and don’t be a stranger, ok?” He said as he engulfed her in a warm embrace.

Tara embraced Hunter in return, “Thanks Hunter, it was great meeting you too.”

They broke apart and Tara turned her attention to Molly so Willow and Hunter could have a moment to themselves. The two new friends hugged and exchanged information so they could keep in touch.

“Well, back to the real world,” Willow babbled as she hugged her brother.

“I’m gonna miss you Will,” Hunter said; a little choked up as he squeezed his sister tightly.

“I’m gonna miss you too Hunt, but you’re coming for opening weekend, so I’ll see you in a couple months, right?”

“Yeah,” Hunter replied and he closed his eyes fighting off the tears and kissing the top of Willow’s head, “Love you sis, be good ok? And if you need anything, you know you can call me anytime, right?”

“Thanks, I know and I love you too.”

They all finished saying their goodbyes and waved as Willow and Tara entered the airport, finally on their way back to LA.

dibs! :whip :whip :whip :whip :whip :whip HAHA told ya I would get it :grin

I am praying for your mom, she is never far from my thoughts.

YAY for long update!!!! :dumbo :dumbo :dumbo

Tara sighed, mirroring Hunter’s moves as she felt Willow snuggle into her side. “Have I told you how much I love this outfit?” She whispered in Willow’s ear.

Willow grinned, “No, but feel free.”

Right off with the flirting....I love when they flirt so sexy, hot and just OMG yum!

I love how the family accepted (even if Sheila was way late) and made her feel like a part of the family. The way she looks at each person and thinks about them shows that she really does care for each of them.

adorable Willow, sexy Willow, playful Willow, practical Willow, athletic Willow

And cute WIllow, shy Willow....ohhh there are so many!

Oh yeah, go Tara! Pulling out for VIP, very cool. ALso lets them relax and not have to worry about fans bugging them all night long. Tara can be real quick when she needs to be.

The next bar after 3 others is fun, getting drunk, dancin....

Tara sat with Molly and Stella as they watched the siblings shuffle and glide across the dance floor; executing the moves perfectly and having an all around great time. It was the happiest Tara had seen her girlfriend in the last several days and she was glad that they were ending their visit on a high note.

Ok I for one LOVE to line dance, just haven't done it in forever! I need to get back into it lol

Ohhh Tara is a bit tipsy lol Seems Willow is pretty good even drinking as much as she did, she can definitely hold her alcohol, good thing too since she has to help Tara a bit.

As they stepped past Hunter, several bright flashes lit up the night sky. Luckily they were just trying to get pictures of Tara and Willow and not paying any attention to Jeff.

Ok this has me concerned, because they can say anything and really make it look bad, but then again Willow is a damn trooper and always makes fun of what they say about her and Tara, let's hope they can laugh this off if it gets too sticky.

I guess Sheila will always think that Willow is her little girl, but Willow is a big girl now mom, she can make her own decisions. I like how Tara didn't back down, she was respectful but also stood up for her girl, keeping Sheila in her place.

They all finished saying their goodbyes and waved as Willow and Tara entered the airport, finally on their way back to LA.

Let more chaos begin!!! Hopefully mostly good, though knowing you there will be kinks along the way.

Great chapter and I can't wait for the next one!!!

This is an amazing update.

I'm glad that Tara didn't just tell Shiela all was forgiven. Sheila doesn't deserve the easy way out.

I've also seen my roommate lay on her horses like Willow was and just stroking the horse. Seeing her connection with the horses makes me heart sore and you seem to catpure that perfectly with Willow.

“Thanks baby!” She said as she wrapped her arms around Tara’s neck and kissed her gently on the lips; completely forgetting where they were.

Also...some foreshadowing, maybe? Can't wait to see what happens there.

I STILL love this story :) I very much enjoy your style of writing and bringing to life my favorite girls! :applause

I hope that if nothing else, your Mom is comfortable. I'll keep your family in my thoughts. :-)
