Not So Sweet 15
Chapter One- New Arrival
Sunnydale High School, a friendly, welcoming secondary school, which thrives in the performing arts and sport. The pupils are good learners and achieve success in more ways then one. The teachers have experience and commit themselves fully to pull the best grades out of the students, which they can achieve.
Well that’s what the prospectus says! In reality it’s just the same as any other school in the area. Nothing special. Ok they do get good reports about the arts department and they win at lots of the sport, but still just normal. That’s what Sunnydale is.
It is the start of a new school year and all the students are full of life and joy to be back at school. I think not. The bell for the first lesson has just rung and everyone moves around sluggishly to find their classroom, and to get their first piece of homework for the New Year. Everyone’s expecting some, but really hoping the teachers feel the same way as they do. Can’t be bothered. By the looks of things, it might just happen. No homework. Teacher’s seem just as tired as the students and not much more enthusiastic. In the I.T room, Mr Leather sits at the top of the classroom behind his desk, waiting for the first rabble to appear. And in the Science room Miss Fudge is busy getting all of the results of the science tests ready that everyone had to do, at the end of last year.
But it is different in one classroom. Mr Giles is actually looking forward to his first class. He teachers English and has the new, year 11s first. It’s the year 11s last year at school and so you would think that they would be working really hard to get good grades in their GCSE’s at the end of the year. But the year has so many trouble makers it’s hard for the pupils who want to work, to get much done.
But today Mr Giles is glad to have the top set year 11s. In the top set is his favourite student, Willow Rosenberg.
Him and Willow seem to get on well as she has a will to learn unlike many people. She hangs around with her two friends, Buffy Summers, Xander Harris and his girlfriend Anya.
The four of them are inseparable. This year though one of them has been split up from the others. Anya has been moved down to the middle set, which has obviously upset Xander somewhat.
As the class quickly appear in the classroom and sit down Mr Giles gives the gang a small smile, and they signal back with a wave.
Once all the students are settled Mr Giles welcomes them all back to school.
“I hope you all had a good holiday, and are ready to work hard, for all your exams that are coming up at the end of the year,” he says.
The class erupt into large moans and groans.
“Ok well, try and work your best, it’s important you know,” he says, getting ready for his big announcement.
Meanwhile just outside the classroom a girl stands, waiting nervously. A new pupil. All she can wonder is what everyone’s going to be like and if they’re going to be nice and if she’ll make any friends.
“Right now class, I have an announcement! We have a student joining us for our last year,” he says walking over to door.
The class sit in silence waiting to see just who this new student is. Boy or girl. Pretty or ugly.
“She’s called Tara Maclay,” he carries on.
Some of the girls moan at the fact it’s a girl. As they wish it were a ‘fit’ looking boy that maybe they could snag first!
Willow, Buffy and Xander can’t wait to see the new student.
Mr Giles opens the door and pops his head round and says something to the new girl, which no one else can hear. He then moves out of the way and lets her in.
As all eyes stare towards the door a nervous looking blonde girl appears at the door. She is wearing a skirt to her knees and her tie done up. Her hair flows freely down covering part of her face as she lowers her face at the floor. Through the hair you can see that she is going a bit red. Mr Giles puts a hand on her shoulder for support.
“Do you want to take a seat? There’s one on the front row by Buffy. I’m sure she’ll look after you,” he says smiling at Buffy.
Tara begins to move slowly past Xander then Willow then comes up past Buffy and sits down next to her.
“Hi, Tara. I’m Buffy,” she says cheerfully, smiling at Tara.
Tara replies with a smile and a ‘hi’.
Xander then pokes his head round Willow and Buffy to speak.
“Hi I’m Xander by the way,” he grins.
“Hi nice to meet you,” she says already feeling welcome.
Maybe it won’t be too bad after all. She thinks to herself.
The class begins and Mr Giles begins to write something on the board. Tara notices that the red haired girl sat in between Buffy and Xander hasn’t said anything. She doesn’t mind, but for some reason she really wants to know her name. She resists asking anyone as Mr Giles has started talking.
Maybe I’ll find out later. I hope so. She thinks.
As the class is about half way through Willow notices Xander’s not doing his work. She looks at his notebook and sees that he’s scribbling something in lots of bright colours. At first she thinks it’s just something about Anya, but on a second glance she notices him writing a T on the page.
Since when has Anya or Xander had a T in it? She wonders.
Sneakily she twists her head a little further to see the page better. When she spots what he’s written she really wants to laugh. Or either give him a smack!
He has written TARA IS FIT!
“Hey Xander, what you writing?” asks Willow.
“N…Nothing!” he says.
“Oh yeah! Don’t worry I know what it says! You should stop or I’ll tell Anya!” giggles Willow.
“No! I’ll stop! I was just…” says Xander.
“You two! I’m trying to teach here! It would be nice if you listened!” says Mr Giles, surprised it was Xander and Willow.
All eyes turned to face the two of them.
“Sorry,” says Xander.
“Ok then,” he replies carrying on with the class.
The rest of the class goes fine. Buffy helps Tara with some of the books she doesn’t have. And Willow checks Xander’s not writing anything he shouldn’t be.
The only thing that’s bothering Tara is the redhead. She has sneaked a few unnoticed glances at her, and she now really thinks the girl is extremely pretty. Well she’ll have to wait for break time to talk to her.
This class is going to go so slow! She thinks.
