I am nothing if not a man of my word.

I have taken up the gauntlet and herewith sally forth to valiantly do battle armed only with a limp stick of celery and this story. I have left my trench helmet behind because I’m sure there’s nothing here that could possibly upset anyone. … … Ok. Except for that bit.

Anya was sitting on a bench doing up the laces on her rollerblades. “Tell me again, what we’re doing wearing these?”
Xander smiled. “We’re having fun dear.” It had taken nearly two days to convince his girl that going out with Willow and Tara was a nice change from staying home and indulging in their favourite pastime.
Anya was still puzzled. So far they had paid good money to hire these ugly shoes with wheels and then they couldn’t even take them home and try them out privately first. “When does the fun start?”
“As soon as we get out on the floor love.” sighed Xander.
Anya got that oh so familiar little smile on her face. “So what happens on the floor then?” she whispered seductively.
“We skate around.” Replied Xander in matter of fact tones.
Anya’s face fell. “That leads me straight back to the original question. When does the fun start?”
Xander sighed and concentrated on tightening his laces. This was shaping up to be the double date from hell.

On the next bench over Tara was helping Willow tie her rollerblades. She had her own shoes tied and tight before her lover had even had time to get her feet into hers. Willow was looking more and more reluctant as the seconds ticked by.
“Come on Will!” coaxed Tara. “It’ll be fun,”
“Yeah, sure.” Complained Willow. “Fall over and bruise your butt in public and get all embarrassed type fun.”
“It won’t be that bad.” Promised Tara. “I’ll be with you all the way and we can take it as slowly as you like.”
“How does a dead stop sound?” suggested Willow.
Tara shook her head. “Nope, that isn’t on the option list. Weren’t you the one who wanted us to double date with Xander and Anya?”
“And it seemed like such a good idea at the time too! But right now it seems to have gone a bit wonky, like me.” Willow tried to stand but her feet went out from under her and she sat rather abruptly back down on the bench.”
Tara took both her hands. “Now you need to get straight up and keep your balance centred. If you feel like you’re going to fall just lean on me.” She half helped and half hauled her lover to her feet. "Skating can be great fun you know!”
“I’ll believe that when I see it.” She began to lose her balance again and saved herself only by wrapping her arms around Tara’s neck. While she was there she stole a quick kiss. “There could be some advantages to this after all.” She whispered, as Tara returned the kiss with another.

“Come on Anya, just move your feet a little. Yes, that’s right, a little more.” Xander had carefully coaxed Anya off the bench and onto the floor. There had been the brief struggle as he’d pried her off the side rail and lead her out into the centre. He was skating backwards with comfortable ease and she held both his hands with a death grip as he pulled her gently around the rink.
The brief peace was shattered as Anya got a bit too confident and somehow managed to move both her feet in opposite directions at once, causing her to land solidly on her rear.
“Oookay, perhaps you don’t need to move your feet quite that much.” Xander knelt beside her. “Are you alright? Nothing hurt?”
“Only my dignity.” Replied Anya painfully.
“Well, perhaps we’d better get your er … dignity over to a bench and sit down for a bit.” He helped her up and kept a strong hand around her waist as he led her off the floor. “Look, there’s Tara and Willow. Can you make it over there?”
Anya nodded and they moved slowly towards the bench where the couple were sitting. Tara was holding an ice pack on Willow’s knee.
“Does it still hurt love?” asked Tara tenderly.
Willow looked sore and sorry for herself. “Only when I stand … or walk.”
“I’m so sorry.” Apologised Tara. “I should’ve caught you.”
Willow shook her head. “If you had we’d both be needing ice packs.”
Tara was still contrite. “Perhaps you were right after all. This wasn’t such a good idea, was it?”
“I have had better ideas.” Conceded Willow. “Look, here comes Xander and Anya. Hey Anya. How’s it going?”
Anya sat down very carefully and grabbed the ice pack from Tara. She then applied it to her tender rear.
“Ok. Fine. I wasn’t really using that ice pack, … much.” Willow sympathised with a fellow sufferer but was a bit miffed at the commandeering of her ice pack.
“I’m sorry.” Apologised Xander.
“Not yet you’re not.” Anya sounded threatening but the smile she gave her away.
Out on the rink the lights went out and a sparkling glitterball descended from the ceiling. Banks of multicoloured spotlights played back and forth across the floor and the DJ announced a dance. The tune was a remix of the old disco favourite “I Will Survive.”
“Wow!” exclaimed Xander. “Rollerdisco! Really retro. I didn’t know this was out in a techno remix.” He turned back to his sweetie. “So Anya, wanna dance?”
Anya gave him a look of disgust. “Duh. I can’t even walk without falling down and you expect me to dance.”
Tara smiled and did a couple of sidesteps and a little pirouette. “It can be fun you know!”
Willow was stunned. “I never knew that you could skate like that.”
“I used to skate every winter on the pond near where I grew up. These rollerblades aren’t that much different.” Replied Tara.
Xander rolled over and did a two-step and shuffle next to Tara.
“So, do you two wanna dance.” Everyone turned to Anya in astonishment. “Go on, get out there!” Anya gave Xander a little push that sent him towards the floor. He held out his hand to Tara who glanced briefly at Willow to get her permission. She took the offered hand and they skated confidently onto the floor.
Willow turned to Anya, still stunned that she’d let anyone dance with her man. Anya had warned them off on several occasions and Willow’s curiosity simply had to know why she’d changed her mind now. “Why?” Was all she managed to get out in her astonishment.
“Hey, it’s Tara.” Replied Anya. “It’s obvious that she only has eyes for you. Besides, she’s the only woman in this place that I know is as safe as houses.”
“What about me?” Protested Willow. “Hey, gay now!”
“Maybe, but you and Xander kissed, remember? That’s what bought me here in the first place. Something like that you don’t forget in a hurry.”
“You don’t trust me?” said Willow.
“Not with Xander I don’t.” replied Anya.
“But you do trust Tara?” pressed Willow.
Anya just nodded and smiled. Deciding that a gesture of some sort was needed, she handed back the ice pack.
Willow and Anya sat for a while just watching their respective sweethearts dance and whirl around the floor. Willow had to admit, on skates her girl had real grace and while Xander had never been a particularly good dancer, he and Tara looked like they had all the moves.
Willow became entranced watching her lover boogie around the floor. The way she tossed her hair, the way her feet moved in time with Xander’s, the way her butt wiggled when they did the bump, the way …. Spike? Willow’s pleasant view was blocked by Spike and some blonde doing a hand jive around the floor. What was he doing here? She took a closer look at the blonde who was dressed in a short skirt and sweater set with fluffy pink leg warmers for effect. Then it hit her. Spike was with Harmony.
Willow couldn’t help herself. She began to giggle as she nudged Anya and pointed out the couple who were really tearing up the dance floor. Anya didn’t catch on right away, being only concerned with keeping an eye on Xander. But finally she noticed what Willow was pointing at and joined her in a general chuckle.
Something caught Willow’s eye as she watched the two vampires circle and spin. With each spin Harmony’s skirt rode up and she caught glimpses of a heart tattoo just below the frilly panty line. Willow pointed this out to Anya in a whisper, but when Anya replied it was at normal volume.
“You know a that a heart can indicate sexual prowess.” Stated the ex-demon in matter-of-fact tones.
Willow’s mind boggled. The thought of Harmony with a tattoo was bad enough but the thought of the ditzy blonde vampire being a bedroom hottie was a bit too much for her to deal with. “Do tattoo’s count?” she finally asked.
“Oh, only a little.” Replied Anya. “For a real sex machine you need to have a heart-shaped birthmark. Like my Xander.”
Willows mind did a few backflips, rolled over, and then collapsed in a gibbering heap. She’d seen pretty much all of Xander there was to see. Memories of him in speedos brought her back to some semblance of mental stability for a brief moment before her next thought sent it back into boggle mode again. Where was this birthmark if you couldn’t see it while he was in very brief swimwear? The obvious answer immediately sprang to mind.
“So Xander has a birthmark on his butt, eh!” chortled Willow.
“His butt?” said Anya, puzzled. “He doesn’t have any marks on his butt. He has one on his p…”
“ANYA!” Willow’s yell stopped nearby conversations and startled some of the dancers on the floor. Spike and Harmony spotted her on the sidelines and decided to leave, but not before Spike shot her the two fingered salute as he left the floor.
The song was finally over and Tara and Xander arrived back from the floor out of breath and sweaty. Tara sat next to Willow and they immediately fell into a whispered but heated conversation that was only punctuated by the giggles that came from the two women.
Anya stood up to cuddle her man and ended up standing there with her arms around his neck, holding on for dear life as her feet rolled wantonly out from underneath her. Xander pulled her closer and held her tight. She felt a pressure on her lower belly that could not be accounted for.
“Is that your hand I feel?” she asked in a husky whisper.
Xander didn’t need to reply, he simply raised his hands while the pressure continued unabated.
“Sorry, had such a nice time, really have to go now. Bye.” Anya grabbed Xander by the hand as took two steps before landing on her butt again.
Xander smiled. “I think it might be an idea if we waited long enough to get the skates off first.”
Willow and Tara also began to remove their footwear, but at a more leisurely pace.
“I think we’ve had a good time, mostly.” Observed Tara as she helped Willow get her laces undone.
“I certainly enjoyed myself.” Replied Xander as he struggled to undo the laces which Anya, in her haste, had pulled impossibly tight.
“Perhaps we should do it again.” Mused Willow.
Everyone turned to look at her.
Willow realised what she’d just said. “Oh, not skating! The double date thing. Maybe we could go to the movies or bowling or something?”
“Movies can be fun.” Anya had given up entirely on getting the skates off. She was leaving it entirely up to Xander.
“Ok. Same time next week?” There were nods all round.
Willow smiled. “I hear ‘American Pie 2’ is opening next week!”
