Okay, back by popular request, which is one person, heh heh...here's the newest fic challenge, thought up by our own lovely xita.

As usual, it's a point by point challenge; length indeterminate. Doesn't matter. We just wanna read it.

1. The fic must be a double date between Willow and Tara, and Anya and Xander. It has to take place at a roller rink.

2. You must include leg warmers in your fic. Must. Essential.

3. The classic tune 'I Will Survive' must play at some point. Why? Because it's a classic.

4. Someone needs to have a funny looking birthmark. Where, who and what is entirely up to you.

5. The line "Is that your hand I feel?" must be said. Again, your choice.

6. Harmony must make an appearance.

Okay? Good. Now get to work kittens! Oh and er, thanks xita. This is fun, which is what we all need right now. Yuv ya.

My sorry attempt at the fic challenge. I wrote it in about an hour. First try at a fic -- so don't be too hard on me!

DISCLAIMERS: THE CHARACTERS MENTIONED IN THE STORY BELONG TO JOSS WHEDON, MUTANT ENEMY, U.P.N -- etc, etc.

The Double Date

Willow snuggled closer to Tara. She loved waking up in the blonde’s arms. Tara began to wake up at the same time and pulled Willow closer.

“Good morning, sweetie,” said the blonde. She leaned down and kissed the other girl.

“Good morning yourself,” Willow said when the kiss finally ended.

“So are you ready for tonight.” Tara asked hesitantly, knowing how the redhead felt about their plans for the evening.

“Baby, did you have to bring that up so early?” Willow pretended to pout. “A roller rink double date with Xander and Anya – what was I thinking?”

Tara giggled and gave Willow another squeeze. “Oh, honey it’ll be alright. It might even be fun.”

Willow groaned in response, but smiled at her girlfriend despite herself. Tara could get her to do anything – even go roller-skating, which she hated.

“I’m not sure fun is the right word,” Willow said smiling mischievously. “Maybe interesting is better.”

Tara leaned in and kissed Willow again before she responded – she couldn’t help herself Willow was too cute.

“Well, personally I can’t wait to get you on a pair of skates. I can wrap my arms around you and make sure you don’t fall,” Tara brushed a stray hair out of Willow’s eyes.

“You’re gonna protect me? Promise?”

“Always.”

The women looked at one another for a few moments. Suddenly Tara broke the mood.

“We have to get ready for class.”

“We do?” Willow questioned softly as her hands started exploring her girlfriend.

“Hmmm … yeah we have class and I know how much you hate to miss any … ohh Willow … don’t stop.”

Willow had no intention of stopping.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

“Okay so not only do I have to skate, I have to dress in 70s fashions?” Willow asked raising her eyebrow.

“Yes, I’m sorry, but it’s a requirement,” Tara grinned at her lover.

Willow turned to look at the blonde. “How do you manage to make legwarmers look so good?”

“It’s a gift. Besides I know you’ll look great, too. You look great in anything.”

“Flattery will get you everywhere.”

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

“Just a minute!” Willow yelled as she finished dressing.

Xander and Anya came in a few minutes later – though she was clearly not happy.

“I don’t like wearing polyester. It’s itchy,” the ex-demon complained.

“An, it’s for one night and it’ll be fun,” Xander answered with a slightly exasperated tone. “Look, Will and Tara are dressed like you and not complaining at all.”

“Actually you should have been here earlier,” Tara answered. “Will complained plenty.”

“Well I hate to agree with Anya, but she is right – this stuff really itches,” Willow whined.

Tara kissed her and looked into her eyes. “No more whining. Only fun.”

“Ok, let’s go!” Willow said with more enthusiasm then she felt.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

“I’ve got all my life to live, I’ve got all my love to give … I will survive …”

Tara’s favorite disco song was playing as the foursome put on their skates. She took Willow’s hand and led her onto the floor.

“Now just take it easy. I won’t let you fall,” Tara whispered into her ear.

Willow smiled at her girlfriend. “I trust you honey.”

They began to make their way around the rink when Willow noticed someone going past them. She would have fallen if not for Tara.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Tara asked noticing the expression on Willow’s face.

“That was Harmony,” Willow answered.

Tara turned to look after the blonde.

“The vampire?”

“Yeah. Weird. Of course, she did skate a lot when we were in high school.”

“I guess vampires must keep some of their human traits, huh?”

Willow nodded in agreement remembering what Angel started to tell her when she met her vampire self.

Soon Xander and Anya joined them and they began to make their way around the rink.

Anya was new to skating, but was getting the hang of things very quickly. She started to grow more confident and decided to go faster. There was only one problem – she didn’t know how to stop. Needless to say the ex-demon took quite an impressive header onto the floor.

“Anya!” Xander yelled looking down at his girlfriend.

Willow and Tara came up to Anya just behind Xander.

She was lying on her stomach and her shirt was pulled up revealing her back.

“Hey what is that on her back?” Willow asked whispering into Tara’s ear.

“I’m not sure,” Tara answered turning her head sideways to look at the birthmark.

“It’s shaped like … well … you know,” Willow started giggling into her hand.

Tara grinned at Willow. “I wouldn’t know about that first hand, but I have seen pictures in books.”

Willow and Tara both started laughing out loud.

“You’re laughing at my pain?” Anya asked looking at them.

“No, we weren’t laughing because you fell,” said Tara trying to stop laughing. “It’s your birthmark.”

Xander looked at the witches as he helped his girlfriend sit up. “It’s interesting isn’t it?” he said with a grin on his face.

“What? It’s a birthmark that’s all!”

“Anya, the birthmark isn’t funny. The shape is though,” Willow tried to explain.

Anya twisted around to look at her back.

“It’s shaped like my favorite thing,” she said. “Well, besides money.”

The other three friends looked at one another and started laughing again. Finally, they decided they better get out of everyone else’s way.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

“I have to admit I had a good time,” Willow said as they settled into bed together.

“I’m glad,” Tara answered as she pulled Willow next to her.

Tara started to massage Willow’s back and then she reached down to her butt.

“Hmmm, is that your hand I feel?”

“I hope so – I don’t think there is anyone else in this bed.”

“Vixen.”

“Yes, I’m feeling very vixeny right now. What about you?”

“Oh yes, I feel the need for my Tara-vixen,” Willow said as Tara began to kiss and nip at her neck.

Tara pulled away from Willow’s neck briefly.

“I love you.”

“I love you, too. Now go back to being a vixen.”

Tara obliged.

Hey kittens here's my answer to Tommo and Xita's fan-fic challenge.

I dished it out in a few hours so it might not be so great, you be the judge.

Keep in mind I only have time for public stoning on Wednesday afternoons.

Title: Double Date Boogey

Author: Nika

Disclaimer: I don't own them God does...I mean Josh Whedon,u.p.n and other media people.

Feedback: Please,oh please!latinnika@yahoo.es. Thank you for reading.

Summary: Answer to a fan fic challenge on the kitten board.

Double date Boogey

Tara looked at herself in the mirror for what seemed the millionth time that night. She really wasn't sure that outfit was working for her, she was wearing a tight short skirt with a big looped belt and knee high boots and a curve hugging sleeveless shirt.

T: "Willow honey, are you sure I look alright?"

W: "Baby, more than alright you look hot!"

T: "I don't know...tell me again why I get this outfit and you get the roomy one?"

W: "Cause one...you lost the coin toss...and two you fill out that skirt way better than I do." (Kiss)

T: "I just don't think go-go is really me."

W: "That's the point of dressing up silly. Besides I don't exactly feel at home in this hoop skirt and super tight sweater."

T: "You look cute, I can so picture you dancing the twist or playing with a hula-hoop." (pinching Willow's cheek)

W: "Yeah...well I can't begin to tell you what I picture you doing in that outfit, cause we'd never get out of here." (pinching Tara's butt)

T: "Feeling frisky tonight? Bad timing...Xander and Anya will be here any minute."

W: "Yes, but the night is long and... (Knocking on door) darn it!"

T: (Tara chuckling)

X: "Hey girls, so what do you think? Am I staying alive or what?" (Xander clad in a black and white John Travolta like disco outfit.)

W: "Wow...it actually looks good." T: "Yeah Xander you look great."

A: "And I'm not jealously enraged by those comments because I know he loves me...also it doesn't hurt to know that you're both gay." (smile)

W: "OOOK...whatever...you look good too Anya very Flashdancy."

Anya was wearing bright spandex pants, an off the shoulder double -sleeveless shirt, big earrings, sunglasses, orange legwarmers and booty type sneakers.(Think early Madonna)

A: "Yes I know and I never thought I'd have to wear this outfit again, I even preferred the stuffy 1900's dresses. Although the 80's was an awful time for fashion, it was a great time for revenge. The women on Wall street alone kept me busy all year." (Wistful look)

(Silence...I mean what can you say to that?)

The strange looking group piled into the car and headed to the skating rink for their double date. So far the date was going better than anyone of them had expected, maybe it was due to the fact that in those silly outfits it was impossible to take anything seriously. They laughed and sang along with the radio. Finally they reached the skating rink a huge banner hung right by the entrance read: " All Retro night outfits 50's through the 80's a must. 200$ Grand prize."

X: "Ladies, we have arrived...time to let the ol' wheels spin..I just hope I can get over this Saturday night fever."

(Collective rolling of the eyes and groaning)

A: "Xander please...no more disco movie humor...there's only so much we can take."

W: ( Thinking: For once we agree.) "Well let's go in, I can't wait I haven't been on skates for ages."

T: "I know this is so exciting I love to skate, I'm not sure how I'm going to do it in this skirt...but still...yay."

X: (At the mention of the skirt can't help but sneak a peek "what a bod -wolf whistle-" Said mentally of course.)

A: (Smacking Xander up-side the head.) X: "Ouch! What was that for ?" A: "You know damn well why Harris, don't make me say it out loud...we're working on me being discreet and you're not helping."

X: "O.k hunny-bunny -ooops!- (Anya promptly smacks him) A: "I told you...never ever call me bunny!" X: "Sorry..."

W/T: Giggling at the exchange.

After getting the skates and making the mandatory faces at the smells coming from within the rented shoe-wheel wear our brave couples set off to the rink. A medley of music played in the back ground to keep in tune with the varied ages and costumes. It was an Elvis, Beatles, Monkees, Bee-gees, Michael Jackson, Billy Idol...etc fest. There were people with platform shoes, big afros and bell bottoms...people with greasy kid stuff hair and leather jackets, it was a retro-retro party for all. There would be prizes given for outfits, skating and a talent contest later in the night and everyone seemed to be having a good time. They we're all oblivious to the danger that lurked, hidden in the shadows. A vampire with a nefarious plan was waiting to make her move on the unsuspecting victims.

In the mean time the gang oblivious to the threat were enjoying a seemingly non-Scooby monster fighting night.

Willow and Tara are skating fairly well holding hands and looking very cute in their 50's and 60's outfits. Tara is more for speed than the red head who's beginning to look a little dizzy.

W: "Baby do we have to go so fast?" (Looking a little green)

T: "Where's the fun in going slow?" (Huge teasing smile-speeding up)

Xander and Anya aren't doing so well on the skating front. Anya is hanging on to Xander for dear life, while Xander desperately tries to keep them both from falling.

A: "So when does the Fun part of this date begin exactly?"

X: "Babe just relax a little and go easy on the arm you're tearing it off...blood...circulation...it's becoming an issue."

A: "Yes, and if you let me fall blood will be a big issue...trust me."

W: "Honey...if you don't slow down I'm making a non too pretty return of breakfast right on this floor."

T: (Stopping and looking at her girl) "Oh baby I'm sorry...I only wanted to tease you a little...you're pale...do you want me to rub your tummy?"

W: (Getting some color back) "No it's o.k...just needed a breather...I'll survive"

(Just like if it was on cue I will survive started playing at that very second. The girls thought it was so funny they nearly fell, struggling to keep their balance they got in the way of other skaters...two of them being Xander and Anya. Anya not knowing how to stop sort of pushed Xander into the rink wall. He toppled over the railing and his tight white pants split right down the middle. Revealing that he wasn't wearing any under wear, the two Wiccans couldn't help but stare , specifcally at a point just above the crack.

T: "Oh my...is that?"

W: "A...smiley face? (squinting to get a better look) Yup...it's a smiley face"

(Laughing ensues)

A: (Struggling to get up) "This is not funny...me falling is not funny!" (More laughter from the two Wiccans and quite a few skaters."

X: ( Angry tone) " And me having my butt in the air isn't funny either (beat) O.k maybe that's a little funny...but come on stop it."

(Willow and Tara trying to sober up)

W: (Still snickering) "Sorry Xander...why on earth are you underwear-less anyways?"

X: (Blushing) "I only have boxer shorts and they looked bulky with these white and tight pants." (trying to cover butt with his hands)

A: (Finally up) "Yes, this way he looks cuter and later it's less to take off."

Just then the lights go off in the rink. The Vampire comes out from hiding and places herself strategically on the platform beneath the dee-jays tower.

The gang stands on alert for any possible trouble. Their Scooby years have taught them that sudden black outs are not good news.

Tara reaches for Willow's hand in the darkness. Xander feels something out of place behind him.

X: (Whispering) "An honey...Is that your hand I feel? We talked about this...not in public...sweety...hee-hee that tickles."

A: "Xander what are you going on about...I'm not doing anything...if it's one of the witches hair will be pulled tonight."

W/T: "I'm not doing anything"

Before the could clear up the mystery of the mystery hand an unholy howl began to fill the room. People were covering their ears as the lights went on and Harmony stood at the platform, proudly torturing her victims by singing at the loudest possible decibel an old Bee-gees song. Andy Gibb turned in his grave (What's that you say? the man is still alive...well not after he heard his song sung by Harmony's Disharmony. )

People whined and cowered in the corners this was too much to take. The blonde vampires plan to have a little meal on wheels was coming together perfectly. First she would render her prey useless with her voice and then buffet time.

Of course our brave heroes promptly thwarted the plan. Willow and Tara preformed a quick temporary deafning spell and advanced upon her looking for something-anything to stake her with. This time she had gone too far. As soon as the undead howler caught a glimpse of the group, she began to look for an exit, she was sure Buffy was somewhere near and ready to dust her. She climbed up the Booth and crashed through a skylight, escaping the rage of the Scooby gang and Disco music fans everywhere.

People looked relieved that the music threat was gone and slowly began to recover.

Every one looked sort of dazed and a bit disoriented but otherwise unharmed by the experience.

X: "We've faced monsters and vampires and other un-godly creatures...but that was scary."

T: "Scarier than your birth mark?" (smile-snicker) W: (smile-snicker)

X: "Har-har"

A: "I believe it was worse than the inquisition and that was not a pleasant time."

W: "Yeah it was worse than that one time in band camp..."

The end

I am nothing if not a man of my word.

[Thinks, there is something fundamentally wrong with that statement somewhere. Oh well. Un-thinks.]

I have taken up the gauntlet and herewith sally forth to valiantly do battle armed only with a limp stick of celery and this story. I have left my trench helmet behind because I’m sure there’s nothing here that could possibly upset anyone. … … Ok. Except for that bit.

[Forrister turns the horse around and disappears for a short time, returning wearing a battered black trench helmet with multicoloured plumes for a crest.]

***********

Anya was sitting on a bench doing up the laces on her rollerblades. “Tell me again, what we’re doing wearing these?”

Xander smiled. “We’re having fun dear.” It had taken nearly two days to convince his girl that going out with Willow and Tara was a nice change from staying home and indulging in their favourite pastime.

Anya was still puzzled. So far they had paid good money to hire these ugly shoes with wheels and then they couldn’t even take them home and try them out privately first. “When does the fun start?”

“As soon as we get out on the floor love.” sighed Xander.

Anya got that oh so familiar little smile on her face. “So what happens on the floor then?” she whispered seductively.

“We skate around.” Replied Xander in matter of fact tones.

Anya’s face fell. “That leads me straight back to the original question. When does the fun start?”

Xander sighed and concentrated on tightening his laces. This was shaping up to be the double date from hell.

**********

On the next bench over Tara was helping Willow tie her rollerblades. She had her own shoes tied and tight before her lover had even had time to get her feet into hers. Willow was looking more and more reluctant as the seconds ticked by.

“Come on Will!” coaxed Tara. “It’ll be fun,”

“Yeah, sure.” Complained Willow. “Fall over and bruise your butt in public and get all embarrassed type fun.”

“It won’t be that bad.” Promised Tara. “I’ll be with you all the way and we can take it as slowly as you like.”

“How does a dead stop sound?” suggested Willow.

Tara shook her head. “Nope, that isn’t on the option list. Weren’t you the one who wanted us to double date with Xander and Anya?”

“And it seemed like such a good idea at the time too! But right now it seems to have gone a bit wonky, like me.” Willow tried to stand but her feet went out from under her and she sat rather abruptly back down on the bench.”

Tara took both her hands. “Now you need to get straight up and keep your balance centred. If you feel like you’re going to fall just lean on me.” She half helped and half hauled her lover to her feet. "Skating can be great fun you know!”

“I’ll believe that when I see it.” She began to lose her balance again and saved herself only by wrapping her arms around Tara’s neck. While she was there she stole a quick kiss. “There could be some advantages to this after all.” She whispered, as Tara returned the kiss with another.

**********

“Come on Anya, just move your feet a little. Yes, that’s right, a little more.” Xander had carefully coaxed Anya off the bench and onto the floor. There had been the brief struggle as he’d pried her off the side rail and lead her out into the centre. He was skating backwards with comfortable ease and she held both his hands with a death grip as he pulled her gently around the rink.

The brief peace was shattered as Anya got a bit too confident and somehow managed to move both her feet in opposite directions at once, causing her to land solidly on her rear.

“Oookay, perhaps you don’t need to move your feet quite that much.” Xander knelt beside her. “Are you alright? Nothing hurt?”

“Only my dignity.” Replied Anya painfully.

“Well, perhaps we’d better get your er … dignity over to a bench and sit down for a bit.” He helped her up and kept a strong hand around her waist as he led her off the floor. “Look, there’s Tara and Willow. Can you make it over there?”

Anya nodded and they moved slowly towards the bench where the couple were sitting. Tara was holding an ice pack on Willow’s knee.

“Does it still hurt love?” asked Tara tenderly.

Willow looked sore and sorry for herself. “Only when I stand … or walk.”

“I’m so sorry.” Apologised Tara. “I should’ve caught you.”

Willow shook her head. “If you had we’d both be needing ice packs.”

Tara was still contrite. “Perhaps you were right after all. This wasn’t such a good idea, was it?”

“I have had better ideas.” Conceded Willow. “Look, here comes Xander and Anya. Hey Anya. How’s it going?”

Anya sat down very carefully and grabbed the ice pack from Tara. She then applied it to her tender rear.

“Ok. Fine. I wasn’t really using that ice pack, … much.” Willow sympathised with a fellow sufferer but was a bit miffed at the commandeering of her ice pack.

“I’m sorry.” Apologised Xander.

“Not yet you’re not.” Anya sounded threatening but the smile she gave her away.

Out on the rink the lights went out and a sparkling glitterball descended from the ceiling. Banks of multicoloured spotlights played back and forth across the floor and the DJ announced a dance. The tune was a remix of the old disco favourite “I Will Survive.”

“Wow!” exclaimed Xander. “Rollerdisco! Really retro. I didn’t know this was out in a techno remix.” He turned back to his sweetie. “So Anya, wanna dance?”

Anya gave him a look of disgust. “Duh. I can’t even walk without falling down and you expect me to dance.”

Tara smiled and did a couple of sidesteps and a little pirouette. “It can be fun you know!”

Willow was stunned. “I never knew that you could skate like that.”

“I used to skate every winter on the pond near where I grew up. These rollerblades aren’t that much different.” Replied Tara.

Xander rolled over and did a two-step and shuffle next to Tara.

“So, do you two wanna dance.” Everyone turned to Anya in astonishment. “Go on, get out there!” Anya gave Xander a little push that sent him towards the floor. He held out his hand to Tara who glanced briefly at Willow to get her permission. She took the offered hand and they skated confidently onto the floor.

Willow turned to Anya, still stunned that she’d let anyone dance with her man. Anya had warned them off on several occasions and Willow’s curiosity simply had to know why she’d changed her mind now. “Why?” Was all she managed to get out in her astonishment.

“Hey, it’s Tara.” Replied Anya. “It’s obvious that she only has eyes for you. Besides, she’s the only woman in this place that I know is as safe as houses.”

“What about me?” Protested Willow. “Hey, gay now!”

“Maybe, but you and Xander kissed, remember? That’s what bought me here in the first place. Something like that you don’t forget in a hurry.”

“You don’t trust me?” said Willow.

“Not with Xander I don’t.” replied Anya.

“But you do trust Tara?” pressed Willow.

Anya just nodded and smiled. Deciding that a gesture of some sort was needed, she handed back the ice pack.

Willow and Anya sat for a while just watching their respective sweethearts dance and whirl around the floor. Willow had to admit, on skates her girl had real grace and while Xander had never been a particularly good dancer, he and Tara looked like they had all the moves.

Willow became entranced watching her lover boogie around the floor. The way she tossed her hair, the way her feet moved in time with Xander’s, the way her butt wiggled when they did the bump, the way …. Spike? Willow’s pleasant view was blocked by Spike and some blonde doing a hand jive around the floor. What was he doing here? She took a closer look at the blonde who was dressed in a short skirt and sweater set with fluffy pink leg warmers for effect. Then it hit her. Spike was with Harmony.

Willow couldn’t help herself. She began to giggle as she nudged Anya and pointed out the couple who were really tearing up the dance floor. Anya didn’t catch on right away, being only concerned with keeping an eye on Xander. But finally she noticed what Willow was pointing at and joined her in a general chuckle.

Something caught Willow’s eye as she watched the two vampires circle and spin. With each spin Harmony’s skirt rode up and she caught glimpses of a heart tattoo just below the frilly panty line. Willow pointed this out to Anya in a whisper, but when Anya replied it was at normal volume.

“You know a that a heart can indicate sexual prowess.” Stated the ex-demon in matter-of-fact tones.

Willow’s mind boggled. The thought of Harmony with a tattoo was bad enough but the thought of the ditzy blonde vampire being a bedroom hottie was a bit too much for her to deal with. “Do tattoo’s count?” she finally asked.

“Oh, only a little.” Replied Anya. “For a real sex machine you need to have a heart-shaped birthmark. Like my Xander.”

Willows mind did a few backflips, rolled over, and then collapsed in a gibbering heap. She’d seen pretty much all of Xander there was to see. Memories of him in speedos brought her back to some semblance of mental stability for a brief moment before her next thought sent it back into boggle mode again. Where was this birthmark if you couldn’t see it while he was in very brief swimwear? The obvious answer immediately sprang to mind.

“So Xander has a birthmark on his butt, eh!” chortled Willow.

“His butt?” said Anya, puzzled. “He doesn’t have any marks on his butt. He has one on his p…”

“ANYA!” Willow’s yell stopped nearby conversations and startled some of the dancers on the floor. Spike and Harmony spotted her on the sidelines and decided to leave, but not before Spike shot her the two fingered salute as he left the floor.

The song was finally over and Tara and Xander arrived back from the floor out of breath and sweaty. Tara sat next to Willow and they immediately fell into a whispered but heated conversation that was only punctuated by the giggles that came from the two women.

Anya stood up to cuddle her man and ended up standing there with her arms around his neck, holding on for dear life as her feet rolled wantonly out from underneath her. Xander pulled her closer and held her tight. She felt a pressure on her lower belly that could not be accounted for.

“Is that your hand I feel?” she asked in a husky whisper.

Xander didn’t need to reply, he simply raised his hands while the pressure continued unabated.

“Sorry, had such a nice time, really have to go now. Bye.” Anya grabbed Xander by the hand as took two steps before landing on her butt again.

Xander smiled. “I think it might be an idea if we waited long enough to get the skates off first.”

Willow and Tara also began to remove their footwear, but at a more leisurely pace.

“I think we’ve had a good time, mostly.” Observed Tara as she helped Willow get her laces undone.

“I certainly enjoyed myself.” Replied Xander as he struggled to undo the laces which Anya, in her haste, had pulled impossibly tight.

“Perhaps we should do it again.” Mused Willow.

Everyone turned to look at her.

Willow realised what she’d just said. “Oh, not skating! The double date thing. Maybe we could go to the movies or bowling or something?”

“Movies can be fun.” Anya had given up entirely on getting the skates off. She was leaving it entirely up to Xander.

“Ok. Same time next week?” There were nods all round.

Willow smiled. “I hear ‘American Pie 2’ is opening next week!”

The End.

Anyway here is my own attempt...

Title: Fanfic Challenge – Rollers, Warmers and Birthmarks
Author: Katharyn Rosser
Feedback: Yup. katharynrosser@hotmail.com
Spoiler Warning: Hopefully none, but generally events up to the start of season 5.
Summary: Response to the fanfic challenge on the Different Coloured Pens Board. A double date for Anya/Xander & Willow/Tara. Set early during the vacation between S4 and S5.
Disclaimer: I still don’t own any of the copyrights or anything else associated with BTVS. All rights lie with the production company, writers etc, etc. I am making zilcho.
Rating: PG13 but with Anya well on form so caution.
Couples: W/T, X/A,
Notes: The conditions set in the fanfic challenge are included at the bottom of this fic for reference if published outside this thread. I am not quite so twisted as to come up with all of this myself.
This fic is part based on events in my own fic series in which Tara and Anya become friends of a sort (which I think is backed up by the canon to some extent) – hence some of the events included herein but no further knowledge of that series is required. This fic may be added at a later date to that series – revised and expanded as I like how it has gone. Apologies to those of you who end up reading it twice.
Thanks To: Xita for setting the challenge in the first place and L for reassuring me that it touched the right notes.

‘Remind me again whose girlfriend came up with this stupid idea?’ Xander asked Willow for the third time in half an hour as they sat watching those girlfriends out on the rink.

‘Ah, I think that would be yours,’ Willow replied no more impressed with the results than he was. She had a badly bruised butt and thought that she had wrenched just about every muscle in her arms whilst trying to save herself or Xander from another tumble or embarrassing and painful splits… in many different, seemingly physiologically impossible directions. And she had fallen over only about half as often as the X-Man. Tomorrow would not be a fun day – she suspected that she wouldn’t be able to move without a great deal of pain.

Meanwhile Tara and Anya frolicked.

Yup, that was definitely the word – they were frolicking out on the rink. Sweeping round at speed, dodging those other people who were inconsiderate enough to be out on the rink when novices were trying to skate and generally showing their partners up for the unbalanced fools that they were. Fools who had accepted the incessant nagging and later bitching by Anya, subtly supported by arguments of fun to be had by all from her new friend Tara, and agreed to this double date.

‘Aah yes, but your girlfriend helped.’ Xander had his own private suspicions – and lets face it fantasies – of just what that persuasive help may have included. Anya had not been any less subtle. Actually she had started to threaten the withdrawal of… privileges, which he somehow doubted had been Tara’s tack with Willow. But you never knew.

‘Those two are getting way too close,’ Willow observed, to herself as much as to Xander.

‘Yup,’ he agreed.

They looked at each other for a moment… ‘Nah…’

‘Nah…’

They both turned to the rink again, watching from the table at the side behind the rail, roller boots still strapped to their feet, and very, very glad that they had chairs. By unspoken agreement Anya and Tara would be dispatched to get their shoes from the lockers, no way, no how were they getting up on these miniature death-traps again.

‘I said bowling,’ Xander finally volunteered. ‘But Anya vetoed me on account of how rolling a ball at ten fat sticks was just stupid.’

Willow nodded.

They looked at their girlfriends again and could not come to any other conclusion than that which suggested that rolling around backwards as fast as you could on a crowded oval floor whilst distracted by laughing and joking was as close to stupid as anything they had ever seen – let alone done.

‘I suggested the basketball game – last years team against the gym teachers from all the Sunnydale schools,’ Willow admitted. ‘Everyone likes basketball.’

‘Even Anya,’ Xander offered in support. ‘I think it has something to do with tall men for her. Though some of the coaches aren’t really very tall.’

‘Yours is a miraculous love,’ Willow told him.

‘I’m lucky I know,’ he replied sarcastic at his own expense.

‘Tara vetoed basketball. She said that it was also…stupid. Bouncing a ball and throwing it through a hoop… We’ve been set up,’ she concluded noting the similarities between their experiences.

‘Oh yeah. We have sooo been set up.’

‘What are we going to do about it?’ Willow asked him, knowing the answer.

‘Not a damn thing. We’re powerless in the face of the women we love,’ Xander replied, resigned.

‘Oh yeah.’

Eventually Tara and Anya returned to the table, out of breath, giggling and almost deliriously happy. It made Xander and Willow sick but they put on brave, smiley faces nonetheless.

Anya plonked herself down next to Willow and started to fiddle around.

Willow opened her mouth. Then shut it quickly. Nope there was definitely a question needed there. ‘Uh, Anya?’

‘Yes?’

‘Is that your hand I feel?’ Willow asked as the thing in question seemed to be determined to stick itself under her aching butt.

‘Yes. I need something from my coat pocket and Tara said you told her your butt was too sore to keep skating – so I thought you wouldn’t want to move. You can keep sitting on my coat,’ Anya offered as if that made everything ok. She saw the look on Willow’s face. ‘Oh come on it’s not like it’s a gay thing!’

‘Ohhh… I know it’s not a gay thing…’ Willow shut up, not pursuing the matter, just lifted herself up and let Anya grab her coat from under her. Accomplishing her aim Anya went round the table and sat next to Xander instead, allowing Tara to resume her place next to Willow and start a little hidden stroking that certainly could be a gay thing – or just a nice way of relieving the pain. Better the former tonight – she doubted after a nights sleep that she would be capable of moving… let alone gay things.

‘What did you want anyway?’ Willow asked, trying to be nice to the ex-vengeance demon, even though she disliked her with a fierce passion – though that was one step up from her former hatred. Who knew, by next summer she might actually be able to stand Xander’s girlfriend.

Anya beamed and reached into the bag she had retrieved from her coat pocket. Held up a something bright green. Two things actually. It was fluorescent bright. It was the sort of bright that you would wear on a pitch black night to stop yourself getting knocked over. They could have advertised a club if it had been capable of blinking on and off. They were a pair of leg warmers.

Xander groaned and murmured a denial of the inevitable.

Anya pressed ahead seemingly not caring. ‘You know that costume shop we used for Halloween, I was in there today and look what I bought!’ Anya boasted.

Xander hid his head in his hands and groaned once more as the bruising was rubbed up the wrong way by his movements to hide himself from view. If he could have stood the pain he’d probably have slid down under the table out of sight.

‘They’re leg warmers,’ Willow said. Deadpan.

‘Yes.’

‘And they are green.’ Tara added.

‘Yes.’

‘Fluorescent Green.’ Willow finished.

‘Yes, you think they are too bright?’ Anya asked, suddenly unsure of her purchase.

‘Well, just a little… bright,’ Tara said enthusiastically.

‘I would have said gaudy,’ Willow volunteered not really wanting to sound as if she respected Anya’s judgement – being as she didn’t.

‘I got some pink ones too.’ Xander groaned again. ‘Two for the price of one. A bargain.’ Anya held up the pink ones too and if it were possible they were even worse. And it seemed that Xander had visible shrivelled in his chair. As if by willpower alone he could make himself disappear.

‘I know I am going to hate myself for asking but…’ Willow was definitely going to hate herself.

‘Why?’ Anya completed and Willow nodded.

‘Ahn.. hun… no.’ Xander made another attempt in vain to prevent the what was going to be said as Anya totally ignored him.

‘Xander has a 1980’s exercise fantasy,’ Anya completed proudly. ‘The Kids from Fame.’

Quite why Anya was proud Willow couldn’t figure out. Xander having been through the repertoire of groans and moans just sat quietly nursing his head as if he had a hangover.

‘And he… Xander… wants you to wear… neon pink leg warmers?’ Willow was definitely afraid of the answer now. She had once had a crush on this guy?! Definitely glad she was gay too.

‘Oh no…’ Anya started.

‘Yes…’ Xander cut in quickly. ‘That’s in. I’m twisted I know I like the idea of Anya in pink leg warmers.’

‘But the pink ones are for you. You asked for them specially,’ Anya chided him, then turned back to Willow and Tara. ‘I get the green ones.’

‘Somebody shoot me,’ Xander gave vent to the death wish he had harboured since those leg warmers had emerged and the music on the roller rink jukebox, “I will survive” seemed strangely at odds with his current situation. ‘Ahn… enough. Willow and Tara don’t want to know.’

‘But they asked!’ Anya protested.

‘No… no… he’s right we really don’t want to know,’ Willow confirmed to her looking at Xander in a whole new light – which seemed to be something she did more and more often when Anya was around. ‘In fact let’s go.’ She looked over at Tara who was grinning in total contrast to her usual embarrassment at such public talk. Had she known? What had she and Anya been talking about? And was it just Xander or had she been a topic too? ‘Now.’ She added firmly to her girl friend noticing Xander was also moving and getting Anya to put the legwarmers away.

It was as they were changing from the boots into their street shoes it was then that Anya confirmed Willow’s suspicions, looking at the small of her back, revealed by bending over to lace her shoes and said ‘Is that your banana shaped birthmark?’ Willow just looked at Tara, death in her eyes. Still it was just a birthmark. She didn’t give Anya the benefit of an answer until the Xander’s girlfriend continued. ‘I understand you have had fun with ban-’

Willow twisted, tweaking her already sore back and put the pain into cutting her off viciously. ‘Enough Anya. Don’t even dream of completing that sentence.’

‘Bu-’

‘Not another word,’ Willow demanded.

Anya might be insensitive but she had the self-preservation instincts necessary to meet the challenge and shut up after adding under her breath, ‘We’ve had fun with fruit too.’

Xander to his immense credit pretended not to hear. They all did.

‘And you -’ Willow turned to Tara who was seeming to move from shock to laughter. ‘I’ll see you later.’ She sounded like a teacher… the sort of teacher she had never been when she was actually teaching.

The way that Anya hung back and took her place alongside Tara on the walk back suggested that they had more to talk about. And the ex-vengeance demon could be heard to exclaim ‘Oooh punishment!’ this time suggesting to Willow and Xander, who were walking ahead of their two naughty girls that something along those lines was indeed due. But without leg warmers… definitely without leg warmers.

‘What we do-’ Xander broke off as he saw Harmony pulling a very depressed looking Spike along by the hand, a pair of roller boots slung by the laces over her shoulder, towards the Roller Rink. The boots were glitter strewn and shining under the glare of the streetlights.

Seeing them Spike called out… ‘Not a word ok… not a sodding word.’

Suddenly Xander and Willow were a little more cheerful and heard the vampire comment ‘God – what a bloke has to put up with for a shag in this town.’

Willow and Xander looked at each other. Never a truer word was spoken as Anya and Tara continued to giggle.
