Lovely update! I really like the innocent way they are getting closer to one another. I can't wait until they are comfortable enough to admit how they feel. I look forward to your next update!

Emms,

First of all, Happy 2005! Hope your holidays were good.

Second, yay, an update from this sweet story. :D Willow is really beginning to accept her feelings for Tara which is good to see. I'm glad she came to realize that the kiss wasn't a mistake. One's first attraction to a woman can indeed be confusing. :blush And way to go Tara getting Willow on a horse! Looking forward to what's next.

Emms :bow

With every update, you surprise me... your ability to make everyday surroundings so vivid that they breathe... I'm honestly in awe !! When an author can write so much life into their story... you can't help but become immersed. The two lines that spoke volumes to me... " She had felt Tara's everything in that one word. " ... that brings about such longing to find that connection .... and then, " she believed in Tara and that was enough " ... within those two sentences you captured what I believe to be the basic essence of love.

To you Emms :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow so deserved !

Hello everyone, I see this little story made it back to the first page just in time for an update. Im working on replies to all you lovely kitten just now, so you can expect those a little later. Now without further adieu... I give you the update

All disclaimers apply

***********************************

Tara clicked her tongue rhythmically and Kaneeda began to walk. She didn't want to go too fast though, because this was Willow's first ride she'd keep Kaneeda going at a steady pace until she felt Willow become more comfortable.. And by the way Willow was holding onto her, Tara could tell that it would take a couple times around the pasture before there was any chance what so ever of her friend relaxing.

A hawk circled overhead. It's wings outstretched, it glided with effortless ease. Tara wished sometimes that she could be that free. The only time she felt even a fraction of freedom was when her father was away and she could just be... be whatever she wanted, wherever she wanted. She'd known freedom this summer.

Horseback riding for Tara, had always been a meditative thing. she had such a synchronicity with Kaneeda that she hardly had to pay attention to where the horse was going but riding with Willow seemed to pose a whole set of distractions she wasn't used to... Tara found that her mind was refusing to stay in one place. It kept drifting off into its own adventures, all ending with a kiss from Willow.

Tara was beginning to come to terms with her new fangled gayness. At least that's what she thought it was. How else could she explain the constant urge to hold Willow's hand and the even more constant daydreams of Tara lips against Willow lips... Even though she was coming to terms with it and accepting it for what it was, that didn't mean that she could ever follow through on any of those thoughts. She wasn't sure what Willow was feeling and she was definitely too shy to ask. Beside's she'd probably ruined things with Willow when she said that stupid thing about their kiss being a mistake. Tara wished now that she had just been honest with Willow and let things happen the way they were going to happen. At least then she would know where Willow stood.

She wandered what her friend was thinking. Willow wasn't saying much this morning and Tara found the red-head many times, lost someplace in her own mind. Tara wondered what Willow's mind was like. From the things the red-head said, Tara guessed it was a pretty interesting place. Sometimes she could just listen to Willow talk for hours. Willow had a tendency to make any short story a long one, and had a round-about way of speaking that was simply adorable. If you didn't know her it might make your head dizzy just trying to figure out what she was getting at, but Tara liked that about the girl. They didn't seem to have any problems communicating with each-other. At times it seemed as if they didn't even need words to hold a whole conversation. It was something about Willow's eyes. no.. It was everything about Willow's eyes. They were large and expressive and there was a vulnerability in them that invoked a tenderness Tara had never known before. Tara found herself getting lost in those green eyes on more than one occasion, only to realize what she was about before Willow was any of the wiser.

Tara squeezed her thighs against the horse bringing her into a gradual canter. Tara was painfully aware of Willow's arms wrapped around her waist.

The day was turning out to be bright and sunny just like any-other summer day, but everything seemed very surreal. She'd slept next to willow for the first time last night, and that had been playing on her mind for most of the ride this morning. She'd stayed awake for the first couple hours after they'd gone to bed, afraid to fall asleep, cause she might accidentally touch Willow in the night. She had been relieved to wake up this morning in the same position she'd finally fallen asleep in. Not that snuggling Willow would have been awful, but it was less complicated this way. They could enjoy their day, free of awkwardness

If Tara admitted it to herself, she'd had alterer motives this morning when she'd suggested that they take a ride together. She did want Willow to experience what it was like to ride a horse, but she also found it an irresistible way to get closer to the red-head, without getting close.

Tara pulled back firmly on the reins and the mare came to a stop.

She loathed to loose the feel of Willow holding her, but she couldn't just keep walking the horse in circles all day. Kaneeda needed a drink of water so she settled on a spot next to the small creek that flowed at the edge of the woods.

They weren't really woods in the classic sense of the word it was more like a collection of trees planted together in a large strip along the creek.

Tara slid out of the saddle and down to the grass. On the ground she looked up at her friend. She was pleased to see that Willow was still emotionally in one piece. Tara offered her hand to the red-head. She felt Willow's hand slip into her own. Willow's hand felt warm and dry.

Her intention was to help the red-head get to the ground in one piece. but as fate would have it, things were not exactly progressing as planned.

Willow was fumbling to find the stirrup with the toe of her sneaker, but before she could get a good grip with her foot, kaneeda took a step.Tara saw what was happening in time and caught the red-head before she got very far. Tara's hands instinctively encircled Willow's waist, she brought the stunned girl close against her body in order to stabilize her while she found her footing.

Blue eyes locked with Green as Tara gently guided the girl in her arms to the ground. There was an intake of breath, Tara wasn't sure from which one of them though. Something seemed to pass between them, some kind of understanding. Tara suddenly felt much older than her 15 years. She was still holding onto Willow even though the red-head's feet were now firmly on the ground.

Tara came back to herself, pulling away she released her hold on Willow. She was relieved when Willow smiled. It was a soft smile, not at all like the kind she was used to from the red head, this one carried a weight to it, it was full and warm and utterly breathtaking. Tara's breath caught in her chest.

Tara faintly noticed Kaneeda wander away from the two of them, she suspected the horse had gone to get a drink from the creek. So she was surprised when there was a thump on her back. Stumbling, Tara took a step forward. She looked over her shoulder to see the mare regarding her through long lashes. Willow broke into a fit of giggles. and Tara couldn't help but laugh herself. It was funny that neither of them had even noticed the horse coming up behind Tara. The sweet moment they'd shared wasn't lost though, Willow reached her hand out toward Tara. Tara slipped her hand into the offered appendage. Holding hands, they made their way to the creek.

Hey Emms!

Great job once again. So much lovely sweetness.

Gotta love Tara's reasoning behind the horsey ride. Can't beat the feeling of someone snuggled up to your back clinging to you desperately.

Sounds like their little water break would be a nice little romantic setting. Can't wait to see where you take us next!

I concur with everyone else, sweetness all around! Their time together in the last few updates is really wonderful. No real worries, nothing forced and they seem comfortable with one another.

I loved how the quote below was so simply put, so much is said in so many stories about Willow's internal babbling and the way you've phrased it is so right on.

"Tara wondered what Willow's mind was like. From the things the red-head said, Tara guessed it was a pretty interesting place."

I just read through this story in one sitting and I think you've melted me with all the sweetness. Awww. They are SOOOO cute together. I love the way that you flesh out the feelings and just teh overall pace of the story. It's really an enjoyable read and now I find myself addicted to your story. Good horse nudging Tara towards Willow... hehehe. I might have missed it, but how is Willow getting back to her place since her father left for NY?

Maybe another :kiss2 is in order between them before Willow has to leave?

Pretty please?

Hi Emms,

That was so sweet...gotta just love it. I know what Tara is feeling...horseback riding has always been meditative and exciting for me as well...I know the feeling of horse and rider becoming one,the escapism, the freedom is fantastic.Unless you have Willow in the saddle behind you, squeezing your waist...then the only thing I would be thinking about would be Willow.

The creek looks like it could become an interesting scene.

More please...

This running back and forth between your fics is killing me.

Okay everyone sorry its taken me so long to get responses out . Im a bad kitten! :punish But here they are...

**************************

Wimpy Ohh High Priestess of sweetness. I like that title. "Puts on crown and robe* Do I get a scepter or a magical wand type thingy as well? I really think something wandish would really go well with this robe. "Sits on my obnoxiously large chair* Yes....I definitely like this...And you'll bow? hehehe things couldn't get better. :D

"savoring the glory that is me*:laugh ............................Still savoring :laugh .......................... :( Stop bugging me, cant you see I'm savoring over here?.......................Okay.....now Im done. *Reads rest of feedback left by Wimpy.

*Jaw drops :shock as all dreams of being a priestess vanish before my eyes. * You have revoked my crown and now I must leave the country in shame, never to return again. :cry

Oh but you still love me? *Small smile* can I still keep the wand thingy? :hmm

And by the way, judging by your latest FB It sounds to me as if you've had a few clingy, sweaty, snuggly horsey rides in your life. ( we can all dream right?)

*******************************

Hermitfish

Yes Wimpy is full of good ideas, but she revoked my title...Something about twitching and tingling... In any event, I left her in some sort of a condition and she snatched my crown and velvety robe...... I think she might be heading to the local costume shop to return them.... *mutters* I loved that crown. :fit2

I see the neon sign... It's all shiny and glowing and accusatory. (Is that the theme song to a summer place?) :crazy If you don't update your fic soon (making sure to continue at the exact point in which you left us hanging) then I'm likely to raid the local pointy arrow neon sign shop, steal some merchandise and set them up in a semi-circle around you.

(did that sound a tad hostile?) :D

I shall carry on. Thank you. Now go update your fic for us before I have to call the law. :smash I will you know. (just kidding....) :p sort of.... :( I don't think I'd really call them :confused .....well maybe... :smug

********************************

Hi The Rose! Thank you for leaving feedback. I haven't decided if they are going to keep in touch yet, but I'll definitely put your vote in the jar.

*********************************

Hi Pipsberg! :wave Much more cutsy-wootsy closeness to come. Im glad you are enjoying...please, by all means, continue enjoying.

**********************************

Willohand :blush hi there :wave I totally :love playing this game with you. I apologize for the longness between replies :kgeek its just been a really :gnome week. But I'm back now :banana and ready for action :punish oops :shock not that kinda action :blush more of the scholarly :read kinda action with the :letter and the :kgeek and the occasional :seesaw :sh but don't tell anyone I :seesaw sometimes.

************************************

Anna

Yay! happy 2005 to you! My holidays were great, thanks for asking. I hope yours was wonderful as well.

Yeah, It would seem that way and as you've probably noticed, Tara is coming to terms with her own feelings also.

hehe horsey rides are always good...cause with the clipping and clopping...

*************************

Kim

:blush Breathy surroundings and a lively story are part of my whole mission statement. I'm certainly happy that you are liking it.

We seem to be in accordance concerning our views on love. Out of everything I've ever written, those two lines meant the most to me. Im glad they had the same affect on you as well.

***************************

Rhiannon

Im glad the hardship is better now... I was so worried that I had put you in such a terrible state. I could almost see the unkempt hair-do :gnome you must have been sporting..... And with the little dance people do when they haven't gone to the bathroom in a long time...It was just awful. And I felt so guilty too.

Yes Willow was indeed on a horse *gasp* how did that happen, you ask? Well, there was a band of farmers, all wearing blue jean overalls ( no offense to those of you who like to wear blue jean overalls.) and they all had a piece of wheat sticking from between their teeth (no offense to anyone who enjoys keeping wheat in their teeth.) anyway... they surrounded her...tired her up and then forced her onto the horse, all the while, blocking their faces from being struck by her flailing feet. (Okay I'm making that up...)

actually... I think it all had to do with Tara and hand holdage (who wouldn't get on a horse if Tara was holding their hand?)

***************************************

Sam Darls :love thanks sweetie

***************************************

no ho young love is indeed grand...and also kinda awkward. (but who am I to be a negative Nellie?)

**************************************

Kelsey hehe adorable's good.

*************************************

Hannah thanks darlin'

************************************

Michelle

hehe I wonder who we could get to tell them that? Kaneeda, if she could talk would most likely be the first to put her hoof in the air and state the obvious...but since she cant talk... I guess they'll just have to continue being blind to their undeniable chemistry, only to be doomed to never make out. Well... okay...that sounds depressing...maybe they should make out... but only once.... okay...twice, But that's all!

************************************

Willow18

OH addicted is good....

Quote:
Good horse nudging Tara towards Willow

I think so too, there is nothing better than a nosy horse. (there should be a horsey emoticon)

Quote:
I might have missed it, but how is Willow getting back to her place since her father left for NY?

Well, since we can't have our Willow hitch-hiking back to Sunnydale, I think Ira will just have to swing by and pick her up. :D

***************************************

Rhiannon

Hi again girly.

Im glad that I've described the connection between horse and rider accurately, considering that neither one million dollars or a person with a gun to a vital part of my body would be enough to get me on a horse. Im always afraid that they are going to bite me or kick me or something.

More creek scene *jots down request into note-book* Got it. *scampers off to type out creek scene just for Rhiannon.*

hehe don't tire yourself out too much. Maybe I should take a break with the updates...you know, so your legs can rest.

**********************

I must now go and typity-type-type another update Farewell my fair kittens.

I'm glad to see that Tara is starting to come to terms with her "new fangled gayness." I imagine it would be difficult to suddenly realize such a thing in one great rush, and find yourself daydreaming of girl kisses. But I do relate to Tara wishing she had just been honest and let the chips fall. That's one of the hardest things ever.

Please continue

Here it is kittens, I haven't edited yet (im so bad at that) I hope you like.....

All disclaimers apply

The creek flowed smoothly just on the outside of the line of trees. The land they were standing on used to belong to an elderly farmer.

Tara's brother used to work for him in the summer months, doing odd jobs like, hauling bails of hay to the man's barn and bringing in armfuls of wood for the man's fire .

He had been a widower and had no family, so when he died and there was no one to pass the property to, the bank took repossession of it. The farm house had long ago been demolished, but as for everything else, it stood mostly as it had been. The bank had little to do with a property such as this, there was just no use for it way out here, so it stood untouched.

Tara noticed an apple tree a few yards away from where she stood. The apples were small and red. They were nothing at all like the perfectly shiny apples found in the grocery stores in town, but they would do. Tara reached up, breaking first one, then another off of the lowest hanging branch of the tree.

She looked over at Willow, who was sitting on the ground next to the stream. The sun seemed to be enveloping the redhead in a shimmery cloak of light and heat making her hair shimmer and look more red then Tara had ever seen it before.

A butterfly fluttered past Tara. It stayed just out of her line of sight even as she tried to follow it's path with her eyes. Tara's vision was able to catch up with the butterfly when the beautiful creature landed on a small purple flower growing a few yards from her foot. It's wings were a crisp white, like a good linen hanging on the line just after a wash. The creature looked so delicate just sitting there. Having had it's fill of sweet nectar It flapped it's wings again before taking off into the air. Tara followed the flight of the butterfly much more easily this time. It flitted around in the hot summer air a moment before bumbling over to where the red-head was sitting in the grass.

Tara's eyes were drawn back to Willow as the Butterfly took up residence on a blade of grass resting next to Willows fingers.. Willow's legs were crossed underneath her and she was idly picking blades of grass out of the ground with her fingers.

The butterfly rested silently, never moving even as Willow's hand inched closer and closer to it. Tara envied the butterfly, she wished she could be that calm with Willow so close.

Willow could feel Tara behind her. Willow picked at a blade of grass next to her leg. She had nearly fallen earlier, but Tara had caught her. Willow could still feel Tara's breath, it had been warm and sweet... Willow closed her eyes. She had to stop thinking these kind of thoughts. Willow was aware that she was dancing dangerously toward a line drawn in the sand. If she stepped so much as a toe of her shoe across it, there would be no coming back from that. But the thoughts were becoming more persistent and she was finding it harder and harder to ignore them. She didn't know if Tara felt it. She didn't want to make a mistake. Though their friendship was solid, the budding whatever it was, was still tenuous and fragile...like the blade of grass in her hand. Willow regarded the green shard, turning it over between her fingers before blowing it from her hand.

The blond sat down on the grass next to Willow. She offered the red-head an apple.

Willow smiled as she took it. "Thank you" She said, bitting into the juicy fruit.

finishing their apples Tara extended her hand and waited for Willow to give her what remained of her apple. Willow did, and Tara whistled a short whistle. Kaneeda's head perked up from where she was munching grass. Spying something better than grass to eat she came over and Tara gave her the apple cores. Eating first one then the other the horse nuzzled Tara's palm before once again wandering away from the girls.

Willow bit her lower lip. she was aware of Tara's nearness. The palm of Willow's hand itched. lifting tentatively from its home in her lap, Willow moved her hand slowly the few inches across the air between them and taking the greatest chance of her life, she slid her hand onto Tara's knee. She couldn't help but looking down at the appendage and then into Tara's eyes. She didn't want to overstep any boundaries between them, she needed to know if this was okay... Willow was relieved to see acceptance in Tara's eyes. Tara was looking at her. They were silent. they didn't talk about willow's hand or the implications of such placements. It simply was.

"Willow...."Tara unexpectedly laid her head against Willow's shoulder.

Willow studied the water as it flowed over the rocks, the stream was a clear amber color. It was beautiful but not as beautiful as Tara and it was peaceful, but not as peaceful as sitting here with the blond's head on her shoulder.

Even when they were back on the horse and heading home, Willow still felt warmed by the days events. Her anxieties about being on Kaneeda had all but disappeared and there was a sense of simpleness regarding her relationship with Tara. There was something between them, it wasn't defined, but that was okay. now wasn't the time for definitions.

"What are we going to do?" Willow asked, as Tara handed her a bucket

Tara smiled at her. They had tied Kaneeda to the fence post just outside of the row of stalls. Tara still remembered when a much healthier version of her mother had raised horses. They had always had at least eight of them, but when her mom became ill they had to give them away, Only Kaneeda was left.

"We're going to give Kaneeda a bath"

"In this?" Willow pointed to the wooden box filling up with water. She was confused, The box looked much smaller than the big horse, she didn't know how they were going to shove her in there far enough to wash her.

"No silly that's a trough....that's her drinking water."

"Oh"

"She get's a bath with these" Tara said handing one of two big yellow sponges to Willow."Y-you don't have to help though, unless you want to."

"No... I want to..." willow said placing the sponge into the empty bucket.

Tara taught Willow how to wash Kaneeda's delicate legs first, starting at the hooves and moving up the leg. They worked on their individual sides until the task was complete.

Using the hose, Tara started the spay low on the legs of the animal "so she gets used to it" Tara explained as she slowly raised the hose higher until Kaneeda was covered with water and the soap had been rinsed completely off. Tara finished by rinsing the soap out of the sponge before lightly washing the mare's face. She put the hose back in the trough. Picking up what looked to willow like the wind-shield scrapper her father kept in his car in case of an ice emergency, which in southern California was as likely as a snow storm, Tara began scraping it across kaneeda's body, causing the water on the horse to fly off the end of it.

"Y-you want to try?"

Willow nodded, taking the scraper thing from Tara she began mimicking the action Tara had been performing moments before. Only, being less skilled at it than Tara was, the water flew uncontrolled off the end of it . Willow soon became aware that she was splashing Tara with ever stroke. The blond had remained by her side to make sure she was doing it correctly, and Willow teasingly began to use this to her advantage. She began to playfully swipe it in just a way that it was sure to get Tara wet. The blond hadn't caught onto the game yet and certainly must have been thinking that Willow was quite incompetent. It wasn't until after a really expert flick of the water that Willow made the mistake of smiling. Tara saw this and instantly the jig was up.

Tara had this devilish glint in her eye, but Willow saw it too late. Tara had already done it and Willow found herself falling backward into the trough full of water behind her. It was cold. The hose filling it was still inside, the water still pouring into the trough. Willow sat stunned by the cold water for nearly a whole second before she was up and out of there. Grabbing the hose she pointed it at the guilty looking blond. "Freeze" Willow said. Tara stopped in her tracks, turning around she put a hand to her mouth "Willow!" she screamed, before turning to run down the concrete hallway of the stable.

If the blond was trying to get away from her she wasn't going fast enough. Willow stood there, she allowed Tara to get a head start. It wouldn't have been fair otherwise.

Willow knew the capabilities of the hose in her hand and if she had calculated correctly she knew the exact distance the spray would reach.

Willow was dripping wet, her hair clung to the back of her neck and her clothes were clinging to her in all the wrong places. There was no mercy in Willows smile as she lifted the hose out in front of her. Her thumb went across the nozzle, creating a pressure that blasted the spray from the hose with enough force to reach the length of the stalls.

Tara froze when the stream of Ice cold water blasted her from behind. She had only made it halfway down the hallway when the water hit her. She had been running as fast as she could without slipping on the straw that littered the concrete under her feet.

When the spray hadn't come immediately, Tara concluded that Willow was toying with her. She knew the red-head well enough to know that she would seek revenge. Tara also realized that she couldn't get away either....

Tara turned around to see Willow coming toward her slowly, a cheeky grin on her face. Willow wasn't letting up with the hose either, she kept it aimed steadily at Tara. It was cold and Tara couldn't stop laughing long enough to catch her breath. She grabbed the green hose, trying to pull it out of Willow's hands, but the red-head had a death grip on it. It was too late when she realized what was happening, the water cascading at their feet had made the ground very slippery and Tara's feet went out from under her. She felt Willow grab onto her waist to keep her from falling, but the momentum was too great. Tara, taking the red-head with her landed on her back with a splash into the water.

Willow, unable to stop her from falling had been caught off balance. Her feet going out from under her, she landed on top of Tara. It all happened so quickly that Willow hadn't really had a chance to catch her breath. She moved her hands onto the wet cement, the hose now forgotten still streamed around them. She braced her weight by placing her hands on either side of Tara's body.

Tara couldn't stifle a laugh at their current condition. It wasn't until she felt the slight weight of the red head's body pressing against her that the laughter faded, it was replaced by an impossible to resist need to tilt her head forward the two inches needed to bring their lips together. She didn't so much as move though, Her breath caught as she felt Willow was having the same thoughts.

Willow had shifted her weight, the way that Tara was looking at her brought out something primal in Willow. The sounds around them faded into nothingness, even the cool water that still ran underneath and around them was put aside.

This was the moment, it was almost so natural that Willow forgot to be nervous. She could feel Tara underneath her and the look on the blonds face told willow that she was in acceptance of what was about to happen. They understood each-other in a way never experienced before. Willow didn't dare close her eyes even as that fine line in the sand began to blur.

I enjoyed that part muchly. I really appreciate your style...the way you phrase things. And your imagery is vivid, fitting well within the tone of the story.

BUT...if I may lament for a moment...you left off before the smoochies . Well, in any event I hope the long awaited kissage occurs in the next bit without some type of interruption or act of nature. Pleasantly waiting.

Yay Emms! I was jumping up and down when I saw you updated.

Gotta say, I loved the horse play and the hose play. hehe Those girls are such rascals! And now I have such wonderful visuals -- Tara in a wet shirt, Willow in a wet shirt, wallowing around all wet, just about to get lost in the moment of ...

Hey!! Wait a minute. You left us there. They were lost in the moment and now I'm just lost. Darnit Emms, now you see why I have to do the revoking of the crown, but you look so cute in the velvety robe you can keep it. You know you don't have to wear anything under it if you don't want to. ;)

Great job once again!
