Chapter 26.
When dinner was finished, Tara stood to take the plates into the kitchen. Rose smiled gratefully at her, calling out
“Just leave them on the side, sweetheart,” as the blonde left the room, leaving Willow and Rose alone.
After a moments uncomfortable silence, Rose turned to Willow. The redhead looked obviously nervous, now that her girlfriend, her shield, had gone.
“I’m sorry, Willow, about earlier,” Rose began, unsure how to approach the subject.
Willow smiled and shrugged her shoulders, “its ok, it was funny…once I realised it was a joke. But, you know, if I ever did hurt Tara, my knee caps are all yours!”
Rose smiled at Willow’s attempt to lighten the mood.
“But still, it was really unkind of me to do that to you, when you were probably nervous about meeting me. You see, other than Buffy and Xander, you’re the only person she’s ever brought to meet me. To me, that means something, that means she cares about you deeply. I just wanted to make sure that you felt the same. I know I was harsh, but I only had my niece’s best interests at heart. I like you Willow, and I can see how good you are for her, so can you forgive me?”
At that moment, Rose looked up at Willow and the redhead could see Tara in her eyes, she could see how sincere Rose was. She smiled,
“Of course, there’s nothing to forgive. I’d have done the same thing if I was in your shoes, well, not actually in your shoes…but in your situation. Tara’s everything to me and she only deserves the best…”
Willow’s praise was cut short as Tara entered the room, a suspicious look on her face.
“Why do I feel like you’ve been talking about me?”
“Because we were,” Willow replied innocently, prompting a cute half smile from her girl.
Rose laughed to herself at how endearing the couple were; if she’d only given Willow a chance she wouldn’t have got into such an awkward situation. But that was all resolved now. A thought occurred to her,
“Tara, while I clear away the dishes, why don’t you take Willow up and show her your room?”
“Great, thanks Aunt Rose!” Tara grinned, obviously pleased at the chance for some alone time with her girl.
“With the door open!” Rose called after them, her parental instincts kicking in.
Upon entering Tara’s old bedroom, the first thing Willow noticed was the photos and writing all over the walls. Releasing the blonde’s hand, she walked over to one wall and looked closely at a photo of Tara, Buffy and Xander all laughing together, looking a few years younger. She smiled to herself; despite feeling sad that she’d missed out on so many years of Tara’s life, she was glad that she’d had such good friends to take care of her.
The blonde walked over and wrapped her arms around Willow’s waist from behind.
“That one was taken when we were fourteen,” she spoke into Willow’s ear, causing an involuntary shiver and the hairs on the redhead’s neck to stand on end. Tara giggled and moved over to another picture,
“Buffy’s sixteenth birthday party,” she said, pointing at the photo, “look how goofy Xander looks, and he only drank two glasses of punch!”
Willow laughed, loving the look of fondness in Tara’s expressive blue eyes.
Walking past the blonde, she began to read the pieces of writing that also adorned the lemon coloured walls. There were some quotes, some lyrics, and some poems that she didn’t recognise. After a moment’s reading, she realised that the signature at the end of the poem was ‘Tara Maclay’. She smiled; her baby was a writer! She turned to the blonde and smiled; causing Tara to look shyly at her feet.
“Did you write these? This is great,” she admired, before moving onto the next one.
Beneath her hair, Tara smiled to herself; if Willow could even like her writing, she must really love her. When she looked up she noticed Willow stepping over to read one poem in particular, and in alarm race over to stand in front of it, blocking the redhead’s view.
“Hey! That’s not very girlfriend like!” Willow admonished, jokingly.
“Oh…um…well, I don’t want you to read this one, its embarrassing,” Tara managed to say.
She glanced up to see Willow standing in front of her, reaching for her hands and expressing the most adorable puppy dog eyes she’d ever seen.
“Please?” she asked softly, stroking the palms of Tara’s hands.
Tara simply could not resist the cuteness of Willow at that moment, and so she reluctantly stepped aside. The redhead read the poem then, now that the view was clear. As she read the words, she realised why Tara hadn’t wanted her to read it,
“Is this about me?” she asked, unsure.
Tara nodded in reply, clearly embarrassed. Willow read it again, amazed that anyone could ever write such sweet words about her. Then she saw the date at the end of the poem.
“You wrote this before…”
“Before we were together? I know. It was when I came back from vacation, and I lost your number; the only way to keep you alive in my head was to write about you, and my hopes and dreams for what we could have some day.”
Willow felt a wave of emotion rising in her throat, threatening to spill over as tears.
“Wow,” was all she could say, a stark contrast from her usual babble. “Thank you.”
“No, thank you Willow,” Tara hastily replied, “You’ve made every fantasy come alive.”
Willow felt a lone tear roll down her cheek as she looked into Tara’s deep blue eyes, and leant in for a kiss. The kiss was not with passion, but with love; it was simple, and yet it held within it everything that she wanted to say at that moment but couldn’t.
As the two girls kissed softly, Aunt Rose was standing in the doorway, her hand raised to knock. She’d heard the whole exchange, and when she saw the two girls kissing as if there was nothing in the world but them, she too felt tears well in her eyes; Tara had really found someone special.
While Willow and Tara were at Rose’s house that evening, Buffy had gone over to Faiths room to watch a movie. The two of them had spent most of the day together, getting to know each other, and for both of them it had been the best day in a long time.
Distracted from the movie, Faith sat watching Buffy intently. She studied the smooth milky skin of her face, her cute nose and full lips.
“God, how I want to kiss those lips!> Faith thought to herself.
It wasn’t surprising to her that she liked Buffy; she’d had crushes on girls before, had even gone the whole way with a few. What did surprise her though was the affection she felt for the blonde in such a short space of time.
Buffy sat watching the film, aware of Faith’s eyes glancing at her every so often. They had spent the whole day together, just hanging out, and she had to admit that Faith was just about the coolest person she’d met. She loved the way she spoke about things; she seemed to have been and done everything. Buffy loved the way Faith attracted attention wherever she went; in the coffee house earlier she’d noticed not one but five guys checking her out, and come to think of it, a couple of girls too.
Buffy mused to herself. she thought as she too glanced to her right at Faith. Her eyes travelling downwards, she equally appreciated the way Faith’s hair fell about her shoulders, the leather jacket she wore even indoors, the amazing cleavage that spilled from…
she thought.
Just as she thought this, they both heard Willow and Tara arrive back in the blonde’s room. Faith quickly turned the television off and motioned for Buffy to be quiet with a finger over her lips.
Through the thin walls, they clearly heard Willow say
“I’m glad we came here, Buffy will probably be in my room. Here we’re all alone!”
Buffy looked at Faith, her eyebrows raised; should they really be listening?
Faith smirked at the blonde, and beckoned her over to the wall. They both stood with their ears against the connecting wall and heard Tara speak.
“Will, I hope tonight wasn’t too bad for you. I mean, you know Aunt Rose was only joking right; I know she really liked you.”
Faith and Buffy missed the naughty glint in Willow’s eye as she replied,
“That’s ok, you can make it up to me, starting right now!”
They heard Tara giggle and the sound of the two girls falling onto the bed.
Tara landed on top of Willow and kissed her lips gently, tucking a strand of red hair behind her girlfriend’s ear.
“How exactly would you like me to make it up to you?” she asked innocently.
“Oh I don’t know, I can think of a few ways,” Willow replied, before capturing Tara’s lips in another kiss, this time deeper and longer. The redhead turned over so that she was on top of Tara, and began kissing down Tara’s neck, until she reached the thin strap of her dress.
Pulling the strap down, and realising she was bra-less, she placed feather light kisses down over Tara’s shoulder, collar bone, and down to the very edge of the blonde’s breast.
In the next room, Buffy and Faith could no longer hear anything. Whatever the two girls were doing, it was extremely quiet. The silence was broken by a quiet moan, which Buffy recognised as Tara’s.
Shielded from Buffy and Faith’s prying eyes, Willow had kissed her way across Tara’s breast and had begun to place tiny licks around the edge of the blonde’s taut nipple.
“Mmm, please, Willow!” Faith heard Tara exclaim, and then, “Ooooh” in pleasure.
Willow had finally stopped her torture and had placed her lips over Tara’s nipple, sucking gently. Tara moaned loudly when she felt Willows teeth scrape lightly over the sensitive flesh, increasing the rush of blood that seemed to flow directly to her nether regions, causing a wonderful tingling, swimming sensation.
As Tara’s moans got louder, Buffy move her ear away from the wall. She looked over to Faith, who shrugged her shoulders sheepishly, and then whispered,
“I didn’t know they were gonna do that. How many times a day do they have sex, for God’s sake!?”
Buffy giggled at this comment, and Faith quickly placed her own finger over Buffy’s lips to silence her.
Buffy was amazed at how soft Faith’s finger felt against her lips, and had to resist the temptation to kiss the smooth digit.
she thought, almost panicked.
Then she looked into Faith’s caramel eyes and she knew why.
Faith looked back into Buffy’s hazel orbs, and found herself transfixed. She really liked Buffy, and she didn’t want to pressure her, but as she looked at the blonde, she saw her expression change, to one of understanding.
At that moment she knew exactly what she understood.
To the muffled sounds of Willow and Tara’s lovemaking, Faith removed her finger and leaned in for a kiss…
