hey nikki,

sorry I haven't been around the cafe recently...we've been having a small plague going around campus and I caught it. it sorta feels like...:punch which makes it hard to study. I am very much cheered by w/t pheramones, though, and I hope you don't leave us hanging too long on winna's story. did you get the idea for that from the movie popcorn? can't wait to be swept by the woo more!

Dear Kittens,

I Wiccachica promise NEVER to get behind on replies again. This took longer than writing a whole segment! Ha-ha. When you write…I WILL not procrastinate…(heh)

bananashake…(first post) Hmmm…now that you put the word ‘bondage’ in there when describing the story…it certainly does have a whole new subconscious meaning for me…heh…(second post) Okay…I admit it. The cliffhanging/piqued/panting/ interest thing is soooo my penchant. (lights candle) I AM a cliffhanger writing ho.

Kiwigrrrl…(first post)Thank you for giving up lurkdom to talk to little ol me! I usually think addictions can be harmful if they take over your waking life…but since it’s my fics we are talking about here…I’m going to have to go with “alllllright…!” Just don’t give up any sleep…friends…or family for it…kay? (second post) Okay…now that you have admitted you have an addiction…may I suggest Dr. Minniloan…the Fic Psych….He helped me through a few of the rough, cliffhangery patches.

ange04…(first post)Totally forgiven! But the Woo will still accept the Kona Coffee…the Punahou pass…and any and all major credit cards. The Woo does not look a gift opportunity in the mouth. You can just send it in care of …uhm…ME….heh.(second response)…Ohh…Super bowl commercials huh? I could rack up the big bucks with as many as I have. (and by the way… an IV of Kona Coffee right now is just what the Woo needs.

LeatherQueen…Strutting the big stuff eh? Hmm.. you are making this whole Sweeps thing sound hard…perilous…and time-consuming….(I’m in!!)

mollyig…(first post)Great deduction! I figure if my girls are going to do silly things…they might as well question their motives while they’re doing it. Thank you for reading into me so well! (second post) I totally agree with you! Taryn should just stop trying to resist Winna’s allure! It’s basically futile!(third post) As always Mollyig…astute and on top of things. Are you, perchance…a Lit Major??? Heh.

Kieli…(first post)…I think I can get Maben to run you a Vanilla Coke…though she might think you don’t like her coffee…and may start to pout. (second post) …(watches Kieli on the floor and wonders what in the world she is doing down there….and as for the genius comment (blushes profusely) Nahh….I’m more a crack pot…maybe…or “easily distracted geek”…definitely…

Big Dummy…Ohhh! A Chai Latte!!! That is my all-time favourite drink! I know you hardly ever post…but look how beneficial it is when you do!!!…Now I’m going to go have a Chai and put my feet up…

Trom…(first post) I cannot guarantee better stories…just more action…and drama…and what-not. ..maybe a cheesy guest star or something. (second post) Sheila AND Ryan huh??? LOL…did I hit a nerve? I’m eerie like that…if my next new character is you current…THEN you can be scared. Heh

Grimlock72…I suppose if the characters didn’t do things against their better judgment they would be much fun to watch…like me…I’m an angel… a real innocent…doe-eyed…innocent…(heh)

Grimaldi…(first post) Yeah…our Will doesn’t back down too often…I like that about her character. She reminds me of…well…people I know…not pushy, but assertive. (second post)…Oh dearest Grimaldi…It has to pause somewhere right? Why not at the part where all is about to be revealed? No worries though…it will be continued next week for certain.

Penrose Orleans…(first post)…For ever and ever??? Eee Gads!! I hope I can get paid for it forever and ever…cuz that’s a lot of writing and time…and poor foodless living! (second post)…Thank you for you Amazing comment!!! (blushes) I don’t think that Winna will ever dissolve into a squishy, touchy-feely. Not in a million years. (third post)…A shot of sleeplessness??? Now what do you expect in a café?? (Maben…two more shots of insomnia please!! Doh! You mentioned the V word, Penrose! (grabs heart and keens copiously) I don’t have a Valentine this year…(weighing whether or not this is a good or bad thing though…)

Mrs. Vertigo…(first post)…Okay…you found out my unabashed CRUSH on Dr. Corday! I admit it….I could totally see her in the hall with a chart in her hands…saying “what thuh heh…???” as Willa and Teresa dash by…(second post)…Ohhh You are so right about the Blade thing. It does have that feel to it. Funny I didn’t see it earlier or I would have toned it down…Very dark and comic-booky…(third post) Okay…you said you’d do ANYTHING??? (get your mind out of the gutter Nikki…think light, happy thoughts….) Okay…I would like heart shaped cupcakes with heart sprinkles….yummeh…

Cindy Lou Who…(first post) Now you’ve got me wanting to see Hearts in Atlantis. I’ve been putting it off, but now…with your recommendation…I’m game! (oh and could you please educate me as to where political grease USUALLY go? (second Post) As for syndication…several prominent stations have approached the Woo, inquiring about syndicating the shows…But the Demons-That-Be…are currently considering a 1st Season DVD deal with lots of extra features….

Catwalks…Me? Cruel? I like to think of it as being emotionally selective with the clever use of cliffhangers, levers, and pulleys…(heh)

Tarasfan…I am soooo glad you are getting visuals on this one! I always hope that the images I see in my crazy head get across to the people reading it…so thank you for your feedback!

SuperMandy13…Welcome to the thread! As per your question…channel 4 has not yet been selected for viewing. It has come across the Woo’s desk that they may sell that station to cable access soon after Sweeps…be on the look out.

Willow the badass witch… Welcome! So… I flushed you out of lurkdom? (puffing up proudly) Yeah for me!!! (okay now I get to blush head to toe and toe the sand) Thank you very much for posting.

Xita…Believe me…I thought about throwing in some casting stunts…you know a few Dykons of modern cinema and stage…some song and dance…but the pay rate they wanted was wayyyy more than the studio would shell out….go figure.

Dekalog…Fell off the edge of your seat? What are you sitting on? Vinyl? LOL…well glad I can keep you riveted. I will try to keep you so entertained.

Sheila wt…As I have said before…NEVER give up your television. If you have to move your puter to the forefront…you should keep the TV as a back up…cuz you never know.

JewWitch18…Yeah…you have been missed around these parts…and I’m glad you’re feeling better…(okay…I have never heard of the movie, Popcorn…what is it about?)

Okay…now I’m off to write the Pacific Tides Sweeps! Stay Tuned!

Owww... I like Taryn, being able to handle herself like that :) Even though she doesn't understand most of the things that are currently happening, a jealous woman.. THAT she can handle, heh. :cheer

I had almost forgotten the vamps response to adrineline. Can imagine that Taryn being all flushed with it at that time, takes effort to throw someone to the ground, heh. Seems their suits dont filter adrineline, might consider an upgrade for that :D . Hmmmm.... Taryn is a nice fitting suite... yummi yummi...

Winna doesn't come from a happy familly it seems :( And yes I do want to hear her story about now :) I want updates for the other channels too though, choices... choices.... can't have it all at once I guess.

To echo the sentiments of another poster, it's damned hard to want to know what happens next on every single one of these shows. I'd be totally happy to continue following the development of Winna and Taryn, but I'm also ready the for tide to come in on Pacific Tides. You know, some hurricane action, a hammock swaying (not necessarily cause of the breeze), etc. But, I also want to find out the scoop on So-Real. They've smooched. Now what?:hmm

It's deliciously tormenting. Good on you. I haven't watched a real tv show that made me this anxious in a long time, and you've managed to create at least 3 of them.

Commercial

(Digitized ocean waves crash on the shore of a familiar beach. A ‘bigger than life’ brassy narrator speaks over the montage of scenes…)

Narrator: All season you’ve been waiting…

(Kali and Tara walk toward one another across a long span of beach…both wearing flowing skirts and their hair loose…is it just you or does the lens seem misty and out of focus?)

Narrator cont’d: For a moment like this to arrive on La’akalani Beach…

(They near each other…staring deeply into each other’s eyes)

Narrator cont’d: But tomorrow night….things….

(a huge digital explosion overlay wipes out the screen in flames as scenes from the next episode are shown)

Narrator cont’d: Are going to…

( Kyle Rosewood slams his fist on a desk)

Kyle: Find her, damn it! She hasn’t fallen off the face of the Earth!

(Rose sitting at a table with Kali and her family…laughing…)

( One of the surfer boys from the first part throws a punch at Keoki…)

Narrator: HEAT….UP…..

(Rose climbs under the sheets beside Kali…)

Narrator cont’d: At THE BEACH….

(Kali, up on one elbow, brushes a lock of red hair away from the face of the girl sleeping beside her.)

Narrator cont’d: Pray you’ll be there to catch the waves…

(Rose opens her eyes…catching Kali in the act…)

Narrator cont’d: Wednesday night’s have never been so….HOT….

END COMMERCIAL

Seems daddy Rosewood does care about something beside money on this planet then ? How odd :D

Bit scared about that explosion though, combined with hazy camera-work... hmm... Good way to get people to watch of course, heh... which I'm told is the main purpose of a commercial.

The Woo totally forgot to remind me that I had a class all day today...so I sat in there writing this darn thing on a napkin...NO JOKE... I just couldn't promise to have something for Sweeps and not follow through...so bear with me...it's more of a set up to the upcoming action part...but at least it's something...eh?

Have a great Sweeps evening!

Channel Five

Pacific Tides

Episode 1: Sweeps Part One

La’akalani Beach

Rosey was first aware of The Sound.

It was a surging rumble…growing steadily louder and closer…followed by an insistent hissing sound of release…

Over and over this sound seemed to resonate through-out her entire body…

…Roar….Swish……

…Roar….Swish……

The sound was not alarming. No…it was actually soothing enough to keep her in a kind of dreamy half-asleep limbo.

She laid there for a moment…listening to her own thoughts and the comforting sound of…

…Roar….Swish……

…Roar….Swish……

And the soothing sound of her own slow breathing…

And the relaxing sound of…

“ Higgins…You Yo-yo!!!”

Tom Selleck?

…Roar….Swish……

…Roar….Swish……

The Ocean….yes….

…and the oddly inappropriate sound of the Magnum PI theme song…

Rosey felt her eyebrows work comically up and down and her lids flutter as she attempted to come around and try to open her sleep-heavy eyes.

Her first vision was of a foreign ceiling. Cracked, and patched in a few places…but intact…and wholly unfamiliar.

(Where am I???) She wondered, blinking.

And then…someone moved into her view above her. Thick curtains of blond hair sheathed both sides of the somewhat familiar face.

Kali looked just as surprised to see her awake as Rosey was to see Kali’s face appear above her.

“ Uhm…hi.” Kali said…looking disconcerted to be caught in mid peek.

“ Hi…” Rosey said slowly…blinking up at her… still not quite coherent enough to know if she was still asleep or awake.

They stared at each other for some time…neither sure what to say next.

It was Keoki who spoke. He put his head over his sister’s shoulder…crowding Rosey’s view with his Cheshire smile.

“ You fell asleep.” He said as though that would explain everything….

Actually…it kind of did explain why she was laying face up on a big, cozy couch…

“ We made dinner for you.” He added…with a broader smile that made her think that if EVERYONE had a little sleep…and a lot food… all of the problems of the world could be solved.

“ Thank you?” Rosey said…still a little soupy around the edges.

“ Don’t thank them yet…you have never eaten their cooking.” Kali said in her pleasant, husky voice that Rosey had thought sounded incredibly unique before. She hadn’t been wrong. It had an Island lilt that brought all of her sentences up in the middle and down at the end to make everything she said sound rich and sing-songy…almost delightfully foreign.

Rosey sat up slowly…gaining her mental feet under her.

She had fallen asleep in a strange house…with a strange family.

( How absolutely Fairy Tale-esque of you, Rosey…)

“ Don’t listen to her. She’s jus’ grouchy…Come on…we eat…” Keoki said leading the way.

**

Dinner wasn’t bad at all. In fact…Rosey tried to think of a time on the Island when she had actually eaten anything authentically LOCAL…

She took her time chewing each item on her plate.

“ What’s this?” She would ask of each unfamiliar flavor. Keoki seemed to be the Master of Ceremonies… for he used the back end of one of his chopsticks to indicate the dish in question.

“ Lau Lau…not da best…but it’s not bad.” He said.

“ And this?”

“ Poi. We no pound it ourself…it from da store.” Moki said.

“ What kind of fish is this?”

“ Wahoo…Ono fish…Lopaka brung it dis morning.” Keoki pointed.

“ From a store?” She could think of no fish markets in the immediate area for a young man who couldn’t yet drive.

“ Yeah…it called killah tree barb’s” Lopaka snickered.

“ What?”

“ He means he brought it from just off the reef… he uses a hand spear with three barbs on it to spear the fish…we all do…” Kali said. Then a darker look passed over her features that Rosey couldn’t quite place. “ Did…” She corrected herself…then gave her brother a warning look to stop his giggling.

He did…and straightened up in his chair for good measure. Rosey thought that if Lopaka had been wearing a bow tie…he would have straightened it nervously.

“ You catch fish with spears?” For some odd reason, Rosey had the mental image of the deeply tanned boy moving along the shallow reefs with a long spear in his hand…moving with the ease of one who was kin to the water and the land he walked upon. Moving almost as a part of the coral rather than over it…slipping into the deeper water and beneath it in search of the perfect fish.

And then the next image was of the blonde in a two-piece leather cave woman smock…her lithe, tanned, form moving over the calf deep water… nearing the drop off….and disappearing into the water after a particular fish.

Rosey blushed and looked down at her plate.

Lopaka had disappeared from the table and had returned with something that looked like a stick the length of his forearm…tipped with three finger-length barbs. A latex sling loop hung from the opposite end. He demonstrated how they are used by slipping his arm through the loop catching it in two of his fingers and pulling the spear taut against his thin forearm like a sling shot.

He then demonstrated WHY Kali had started to her feet and told him to put it away and finish dinner.

Lopaka was an incurable klutz.

The spear got away from him with an audible <> sound before embedding itself into the wall beside Moki's chair.

“ Oh…” Lopaka said slowly…eyes wide… “ Dude….”

“ Dad’s gonna work you when he gets home, Paka…” Moki warned…turning three shades of pale when he realized how close the rod had come to impaling HIM instead of the wall.

Kali put down her chopsticks…still on her feet. She leaned against the table for added support and winced a little from sitting too long.

“ I told you…” She said… “To sit down and finish dinner…when we are done you can get your spear…AND patch the wall…”

“ See alla that?” Keoki said, and pointed to the patched sections of the ceiling. She had seen similar ones in the television room. He shook his head, waved at the food on the table with a chopstick as though he was about to conduct the Boston Philharmonic. “ Drama done. EAT.” He said gruffly.

Everyone settled back into their chairs… and they finished out their dinner in relative silence.

It wasn’t until they had finished that Rosey surprised herself by just blurting out what she had been thinking during most of the meal. She didn’t look up as she spoke, but intensely at her plate.

“ Thank you for inviting me into your home…letting me fall asleep on your couch…and making this wonderful dinner.” She said…looking almost contrite.

“ No prollem.” They said in unison. Rosey sat for another few moments…working up the nerve for the next leg of her speech….

(so far, so good…)

“ I don’t think what my….father is doing to your family is fair. Not at all… I…I never knew. I Never…never knew…I want you to believe that. I want to help you in any way I can….”

“ I believe you.” Moki chimed in quickly. Lopaka nudged him…HARD…

“ I’m…sorry…that’s what I’m trying to say…” Rosey continued…finally looking up and finding Kali’s gaze.

“ You don’t have to be.” Kali said…and then she smiled…and looked away...

Rosey watched as all heads swiveled to look at their sister.

For the most part…they looked flabbergasted.

Years of animosity…blame…and pain….fiery ill-will…GONE in a flash of a shy smile and an averted eye.

Sure Keoki probably gave into Rosey earlier because it’s hard to STAY mad at someone who could take your breath away with a smile.

But Kali was not one to be won over by looks…or promises…not even sorries swayed her.

She of all people knew that sorries could come wrapped thinly around the lead hammer of insincerity.

But this time…Kali seemed to believe…more than that…there seemed to be something in their sister’s face that they had not seen in a long time…a glimmer of the life she once had lived.

A glimmer of hope.

This young woman was here to help them. These were not empty promises…no paper tigers hidden here… somehow she knew that….

For a brief moment this was the Kali they all recognized. Sweet and intrinsically happy…the one who shared a strange…mysterious bond with the water…Who found solace in the swell of the ocean…and love on the edge of every break…

Here she was… sitting at the table with them…brought about by this…almost stranger….

“ Then it’s settled.” Keoki said, putting down his chopsticks. “ You’ll stay here wit us.”

“ Yes!!” Moki said under his breath.

“ W-What???” Kali asked out loud…shyness suddenly forgotten. This was certainly a strange turn in the conversation. How had they gotten from. ‘ I believe you.’ To ‘she’s staying here with us’???

“ Sure. We can make room.” Keoki said reasonably…a wry smile pulling at the corners of his lips.

“ What???” Kali said again. “ Make….the room???” She sputtered.

“ Actually…I was thinking she could have the couch…but since Lopaka’s ceiling is leaking…from three mysterious holes in the ceiling…he’ll need the couch till it gets fixed. Since Kali’s got the biggest bed…you two can share it.”

He watched Rosey’s cheeks burn brightly.

“ I…never said…” She fought to find the right words to relay her message.

(But how do you say, ‘As much as I would LOVE to sleep with your sister…in every sense of the word…wouldn’t that be a little…awkward..???’)

“ Keoki…” Kali started once again. “ What makes you think that she would want to stay with us?”

Keoki crossed his legs at the ankles and leaned back in his chair with a confidence that infuriated her.

“ Mister Rosewood is the enemy. Would you send your best and secretest weapon back across the lines and into danger? No. You first stay here…STRATEGIZE…and then launch the attack…”

Everyone stared at him.

He looked right into his sister’s face smugly. Her cheeks were oddly just as flushed as the redhead’s. Food for thought. He noted.

“ No more Television for you.” Kali said.

“ But I’m right.” He pressed.

“ Sort of.” Kali admitted slowly…wondering how in the world he had won this argument.

“ Fine…you no like her sleep wit you…I’ll make the sacrifice. She can sleep with me.” He said magnanimously. Kali opened her mouth to protest, but Rosey beat her to the punch.

“ I’ll stay with Kali.” She piped.

“ Fine…” Keoki said offhandedly smiling…losing the battle, but winning the war.

Kali and Rosey chanced a quick look at one another.

Kali had a new bedfellow…

This night was going to get weirder and weirder…she could feel it.

Oddly…she was looking forward to such a night.

**

“ What do you mean she didn’t come in for dinner?” Kyle Rosewood barked at his assistant, looking annoyed.

“ Miss Rosewood did not come in for dinner. Martin could not locate her on the grounds, Sir.” Manu repeated. Kyle sighed explosively…looking put out…almost childish in his disdain.

( What in the hell was she up to now?)

He had seen the absolute loathing fury on his daughter’s face last night. Good. It builds character. God knows she needs more of that. Bleeding heart liberals had no place in the business world. It was weak to do business with your heart. She would have to learn to toughen up if she were going to call herself a Rosewood.

(She’s trying to piss me off…but it won’t work)

He slammed his fist on his desk, loudly enough to startle Manu slightly.

“ Find her, damn it…she hasn’t fallen off the face of the Earth!” He spat. “ Ask her little surfer boyfriends from the resort…the one’s you told me about…to help you. I want her found.”

“ Yes, Sir.” Manu said.

“ Goodbye Manu.” Kyle said sourly.

“ Goodbye, Sir.” Manu said…and quickly left.

( Damn girl…this is her way of getting back at me. If she thinks I’m going to cause a commotion over HER…she has another thing coming.)

Kyle Rosewood stood up…walked over to the wet bar…and poured himself a Scotch.

She wasn’t the only one who has another thing coming…right Kyle?… Soon…you’ll have EVERYTHING you want…

He swirled the Scotch around the bottom of his glass…

Everything…

TBC… After these messages….

well, it's true there's nothing like a little late-night viewing to cure insomnia...maybe now I can get to sleep, and dream the night away (with a little help from kali and rosey...) the boys are just getting more charming all the time in this show, aren't they? and the details, though I'm in no position to judge their veracity, certainly have the presentation of a writer who knows what she's talkin' about. ...and to think it was all written on a napkin during lecture! :read

Oh my god... lau lau! *drools* Oh man, it makes me miss home. I'm not from Hawaii, but my ma is and so every now and then we get some really great Hawaiian food when my grandma sends us stuff. And lau lau is my all-time most favourite food!

I love this 'show'! It reminds me of my mom and all her friends, 'cause they're all from Hawaii and so when they get together they all slip into using pidgin slang and it's so cool listening to them bicker and banter with each other. ^__^

Lopaka demostrating what a klutz he is with the spear was funny. Rosey and Kali sharing a bed, think of the possibilites :grin

:clap Bravo! Bravo! I was like hanging on the edge of my seat. I've decided, I'm going to get you an agent. This is SO must see TV. We should have our own television channel....Queer Central or some such. Quality TV for the discerning gay population. This is better than what I watch on het TV on a regular basis! Have I raved enough yet? Good! :blush

Two words: Hoo, boy! This is getting exciting, and I'm on the front lines of it all... Mr. Rosewood trying to act nonplussed while really fuming :lol ! The Woo has demonstrated fitness to lead us all, and I for one submit to Woo-ly authority. For the record, this one is quite possibly my new favorite (though we all must remember how easily influenced Nora is by the power of good writing and a surfing Willow)! ...the LENGTHY (read: verbose to the point of madness?) response to your comments and the last couple of eps.

1) Re: "Hearts in Atlantis": Speaking of verbosity :) I was thinking more of Mr. King's 4-part novel of the same name. As per the norm I think the book superior to the movie simply because of the thread that is elegantly woven throughout 4 "stand alone" stories. The movie gets 3.5 out of 5 stars...worth a 2 buck rental but not $9.50 on the big screen IMO. ;)

2)
Quote:
But the Demons-That-Be…are currently considering a 1st Season DVD deal with lots of extra features….
This prospect would certainly induce me to listen to the "screenwriter's commentary" on the special features menu!!!:bounce :bounce :bounce

3) Re: "Futopia:" I totally dig Ryder...she gets flipped off not once but twice! I liked seeing the Winna/Taryn mating dance through her eyes. And the sorrow and horror (ironic given her parents' vocations) that Winna witnessed that robs her (in fact or even psychosomatically) of her sight...so poignant and authentic.:cry I really hope that Taryn's own authenticity and strength and inner beauty can provide some healing to a steeled but searching soul.

4) I've said it before and I'll say it again: I love Keoki! He sacrifices the battle to win the war of getting Kali closer to Rose. Baywatch reunions be damned this week...I taped "Pacific Tides" so I can watch again and again!:laugh

Oh and afterthought:
Quote:
She would have to learn to toughen up if she were going to call herself a Rosewood.
...Urmmm...what a dink!~(A) Rose seems plenty *tough* enough and (B) I'm not sure being a 'Rosewood' even reaches the top 20 on her agenda!:hmm

Again sorry for the length...feel free to blue-pencil!!! Bowing down to the WOO now and forever...^^^SUSE (CLW)

hey chica,

:read

i haven't been on pens in a long while, but a little shirtless mocha-drinking birdie :wave told me to come check out cataclysm cafe, and i'm so glad i did. caught up on everything in one fell swoop, and i haven't laughed out loud at my computer like this in a long, long time. :clap

so, a few random thoughts:

1) i sooo love seeing pidgin in fanfic. that just rocks my world. i haven't heard "all crushed out on the Haole" since i was in college with dormmates from Maui :lol . Make sure you fix those girls some Portugese sausage and rice, too. (and spam. can't forget the spam. :p )

2) re: nine west--are you sure that you and sassette aren't two halves of the same brain? i could've sworn there was a sassfic once upon a time with a cowboy-and-miss-kitty w/t. :grin

3) futopia channel? better than anything that's even in *movie theaters* these days.

4) and last but not least, the big rainbow house. the big rainbow house!! oh, god, that is the funniest thing i have seen in waaaaay too long. i know someone who would be perfect for writing the jingle to go along with "Meet Tara who sings/While Willow does math/And Rupert the Mouse figures out the biostatistical equivalent of a Feros Demon’s approximate anger to action ratio of his fiery wrath." and...can i have yellow yarn hair, too? i want yellow yarn hair now. it would make me haole wahine. and i'm thsuper, thanks for asking! ;)

also--not sure what the Big Woo is (some kinda asian deity or something? :p ) but hey, ya both get a :bigkiss from me. keep up the revelry and stay lolo! :grin

Ooh, chica, you just keep outdoing yourself. The Big Woo must really want to bring the smackdown during sweeps weeks with these episodes.

Many bags of yummy espresso beans for you, all the way from lovely Las Vegas.

Altho, if you find an empty bottle or two in there of Smirnoff's, pay them no heed. The drinking got a bit... excessive... during the Vegas Kitten meet.

ange04…Oh my ever livin’ Woo. How could I forget the Lomi Lomi Salmon. It’s truly been way too long since I’ve been home. (flogs self mercilessly) And as for luvin’ the local boys I sure did…(and not LUUUUUUve love but the tender head tilting aren’t they special love that only they can evoke) heh.

Penrose Orleans…Your first born eh? I might hold you to that (and then where would you be? Hmm?) I’ll tell you…turning in circles and shouting Nikistiltskin three times…that’s where…I very proud about driving you distraction though, I somehow feel as though I have won something. Heh.(Oh and "sexually identified pastries? LOL) Love that.

JewWitch18…(coyly) Me? A tease? NE-VER…heh As for writing for television…(What makes you think I don’t already…I mean I DO live in Hollywoodland….) (wink) As for the charming boys and the details I have to admit I like to steal a little bit of real life and embellish. Oddly… I WAS adopted…I did live on the beach in a similar house….but I had only one brother….I just split him into fours they all have a little bit of him in there….(okay, Nikki nuff details)

Darkwiccan…DW!!! Tell Charo I said coochie coochie. She’s still my hero. (Hell I could totally have her visit the Resort for sweeps…huh?) Damn too late… I should have thought of that earlier. The Big Rainbow House will be coming soon…so hold on to you puppet-sized panties.

TromDeGrey…Now I’m an unmitigated tease? I’ve always thought of myself as quite mitigated, thank you…as for the tease part…I guess it’s hard to argue when EVERYONE is calling me that now. (Wearing baby T that says TEASE in silver sparklys)

Grimlock72…Will Daddy Rosewood ever change his spots? Me thinks not. As for the explosion…just a cheap commercial trick to lure ya’ll in…no explosions on the Beach… I assure you (at least none that I know of)

SuperMandy13… I miss Hawaii too. It’s hard to get back over when you’re afraid to fly. (they tricked me onto the place the last time…bah…I’ll never forgive) I have a hard time coming back to mainland English when I’m around people who speak da kine talk. Usually when I’m overly emotional either way I slip. (I still say Foa for the #4 and such and my accent is so diluted now that people ask me if I’m British. But Lau Lau is my alla-alla time favourite.

Grimaldi...Glad you loved it! I think we should all give props to the Klutzs in our lives today. (give em all a hug)

Kieli...Queer Central! LOL! I LOVE it! Want to be my agent and we'll take this straight world by storm! You could do the prime time shows and I'll do the kiddie shows and we'll fight religious right lawsuits like a crime-fighting duo...

Cindy Lou Who...I LOVE long posts! You do that any time your heart desires. As for the screenwriter commentary on the DVD...they've asked me not to do it. It's my bawdy sense of humour see...I'm a little roucus for the normals out there...so they are going to have Andrew Dice Clay fill in for me.

Novelty Act...Welcome to the thread! If you see Sass before I do thank her for her recommendation. She is sooo a fic hero of mine. (And if any of you have not read her fics...the Woo demands you do so at this time...it's actually like a prerequisite to the course) Sooo... I'm making Spam Musubi today as a matter of fact...I'll make a few for you too(unless you're a veggie...which I totally support by the by...and I'll make yours sprouty and such) Thank you so much for your feedback...and I hope you keep on reading...it should get kinda good by the season finales.

LeatherQueen...Dear heart...bags of beans are perrrrrfect! Yummeh! I noticed a lot of you Vegas Kittens slogging into the cafe ordering te Hangover Special triple shot extreme....heh...serves you right.

Now on with the second half...

Channel Five

Pacific Tides

Episode 1: Sweeps Part Two

La’akalani Beach

“ So this is it. The bed’s not HUGE or anything.” Kali said a little nervously. She plucked a tattered plush horse from the pillows on her bed and held it against her.

“ You sleep with teddy bears?” Rose asked, suppressing a smile. Kali looked down at the offending plush toy draped over her arm like an overly relaxed cat.

“ No…It’s more of a…teddy…horse…” She said… unconsciously stroking the plush fur down to make him look more presentable for their guest.

“ Does he have a name?” Rose asked. Kali looked down into his plastic eyes…her brow knitted as though she were trying to recall.

“ …HORSE…I think….he doesn’t talk much…” She said jokingly.

“ Ahh…” Rose said in mock understanding.

They were standing in the middle of the room…neither quite sure what to do next. Kali was now picking at the poor horse’s coat and running through all of the things she could say that would sound witty, and wonderful… The words of a genius... verbal manna from heaven…

But what a strange turn of events that she would already have the girl of her dreams IN HER ROOM while she was trying to think of lines…

‘Your place or mine’ sounded a little moot at this point. She almost chuckled out loud…but caught herself and cleared her throat instead.

“ So…ahh…” (So nervous…) “ I suppose you’ll need something to sleep in. She moved towards her dresser drawers.

“ Oh no… I usually sleep in the buff.” Rose said…and lifted her hand almost halfway to her forehead to slap it…

(Great Rosewood…your usual joking when nervous thing…NOT so funny when you’re standing here in HER room.)

“ Wha??” Kali turned to press her back against the Dresser…closing the drawer…

She not only looked surprised…but even a little scared…

(Great God….she was not going to be able to sleep beside her if she wasn’t wearing anything.)

“ I’m kidding…bad…BAD joke…I do that sometimes…just ignore them when they happen…it will make me seem much more normal….” She said, turning bright red.

Kali chuckled. It was a nervous sound that was mostly relief. She pulled open the drawer again and pulled out two pairs of pajama bottoms. They both looked like light material that would allow comfort in the warm night air. They both had distinctly cute animal patterns. “ Horses or Frogs?” Kali asked.

Time seemed to tick by as the young woman didn’t seem to make a decision. She shifted from foot to foot.

“ You wouldn’t happen to have any chainsaw-wielding-serial-killer-standing-in-a-pool-of-blood PJ’s would you?” She muttered.

“ Uhm…nope…” Kali said.

“ Okay…horses then…” She said… knowing full well that at least the cartoon horses couldn’t chew off limbs in the night…but the frogs…oh heaven…just the thought…

Kali handed her the horses and an undershirt.

Again…they stood there with the pajamas in their hands…staring at each other…wondering what to do next.

They both quickly and mutually turned their backs to each other to change.

When they had finished…Kali slipped under the sheets on the left side.

(How did she know I always sleep the right side?) Rosey thought to herself as she slipped beneath the sheets.

The bed was large enough to allow them about four inches of leeway room on either side. They kept to their own side as if there were a force field buzzing energetically between them.

Kali shut out the light on her nightstand and they were bathed in darkness. They lay quietly on their backs as their eyes adjusted.

“ Thank you again for letting me stay here.” Rosey said quietly.

(You don’t even know how much a pleasure it is to have you here…) Kali thought.

“ You’re welcome.” Kali said. Then Rosey felt Kali move on the bed. She heard the nightstand drawer open…and the muffled rattle of a medicine bottle yielding pills…then a bottle of water…

all done very quietly as though not to disturb her…or to alert her.

Kali lay back on the pillow and settled in. She felt weak when she had to take the pills. But the pain would come mostly on the first night after visiting the doctor…and the last thing she wanted was to have Rosey see her in that way…all pitiable…

“ Are you in a lot of pain?” Rosey asked in the dark. Kali turned to look at her…she could make out the features of the other girl’s face fairly well.

“ No.” She said quietly. “ Not right now.”

“ Are you going to get better?”

She thought about it for a moment and then a strange feeling overwhelmed her. So many nights she had lain awake and cursed the Rosewoods…cursed herself…and succumbed to the idea that she would never walk again…or survive the dark thoughts that came with the immense pain. Am I going to get better? Was it worth it?

“ It’s certain.” Kali said with a little yawn.

Instead of some pitying comment of how horrible it was…or how awful she felt for Kali…Rosey chuckled.

“ Something funny?” Kali had no idea what had struck the other girl as comical…but she found herself smiling at the sound.

“ You sound like a Magic 8 Ball.” She chuckled. “ It is certain.” She said grandly. “ I just had this weird urge to shake you and see if I’d get another answer.”

Now Kali did laugh.

“ Be glad I didn’t tell you to ‘Ask again later’…” She said. And they both stifled girly giggles.

Footsteps in the hallway.

They muffled their giggles with their pillows.

The door came open and a tousled looking Keoki stood in the doorway…looking like a disapproving father.

“ If you girls no be quiet I’m gonna haf to separate you. No joke. Go to sleep.” He groused…then shut the door.

The girls stifled another giggle.

“ G’night!” Keoki surled from down the hallway.

With that prompt the girls settled down and slipped off to sleep.

**

It was some time later when a sound brought Kali fully awake. She sat partially up, listening to the quiet of the house…and the distant sound of Lopaka snoring in the living room. The familiar sound of the ocean…nothing seemed out of sorts. So what had woken her up?

“ Gah…frogs and chainsaws….” Rosey muttered. Kali turned to her bed guest. “ Hungry Puppy can’t find Big Bird?” She asked perplexed. Kali’s face split into a sleepy smile.

Rosey was dreaming.

Their feet had found each other through the in the course of the night…force field be damned…and Kali felt Rosey’s ankles sandwich one of hers tightly as she dreamt. She didn’t withdraw her foot so as not to wake her…and because…frankly…she liked having it there.

“ Who ordered the mocha? Hmm?” Rosey asked anxiously.

“ I did.” Tara whispered…watching Rosey’s face relax in the dim light of the room. It seemed to be the right answer…She seemed so peaceful…

A completely odd thought struck Kali.

She wanted to kiss her.

Not now…of course…because Rosey was sound asleep and they both would definitely have killah wiffah morning breath…

But later…she was going to Have to kiss her…

“ Who took the frogs? The ones with the chainsaws?” Rosey asked.

Stray hair fell into Rosey’s face. Kali reached instinctively up to slip it behind her ear.

“ I did.” She said softly…reveling in the gentle curve of her ear…and the softness of her red hair.

When her attention came back to her face, she found that Rosey was laying very still…her eyes were open…blinking up at her.

“ Am I awake?” Rosey asked in a sleepy voice. Kali thought about aiding the confusion by telling Rosey that she was still dreaming…It was tempting… it would certainly save her a very awkward moment.

“ Uhm…I think so…” Kali said…pulling her hand away.

“ Oh…good.” Rosey said…her eyes fluttering closed again.

Kali felt a heat rise up her throat to her face…and closed her eyes. Waiting for Rosey to come around and realize that she was ACTUALLY awake…

She stayed that way…tense…and waiting…until she fell back to sleep some time later…

**

They were brought out of a deep sleep by an insistent pounding.

Kali pulled off her sheets and got up at the same time Rosey did. They stood in the middle of the room…listening to the sound start again.

Kali moved to the door and pulled it open to see Keoki in the hallway.

“ Somebody’s at the door.” He said in a low voice.

“ The sun’s not even up.” Moki mumbled…rubbing his long hair…coming out of his room.

Keoki took the led as they moved down the hall and into the living room…past Lopaka who was still snoring away. The house could have come down and he would have slept through it.

The tallest boy looked through the side window at the porch and then turned to look at Kali.

“ Get her out of sight.” He said firmly as the pounding started again. Kali pulled Rosey to the other side of the door where she would not be seen.

Kelani appeared from the hall looking puzzled. Keoki pulled open the front door and put on his most foreboding expression. Lopaka had miraculously come around and shuffled to the door…rubbing his eyes and clearing his head.

“ I KNOW you are knocking on the wrong door, Kefe.” Keoki said to the blonde boy in the front.

“ Is Rosey here?” One of the six boys outside asked impatiently.

“ You know da time, ladat?” Keoki asked…not answering his question. He propped a hand high on the doorframe…filling their view with his large form.

“ You come interrupting our water…and now you like interrupt my SLEEP? What, you lolo?” Lopaka snarled from beneath Keoki’s arm. Kali loved the short boy with all of her heart…but sometimes his big mouth forgot the size of his tiny body.

“ Rosey’s dad sent us to find her.” Another boy said…Rosey snorted with disdain and started forward…only to be grabbed around the waist and pulled back behind the door. Kali kept her arms around the girl…immobilizing her.

“ Don’t piss me off. Is she here…or not?” The boy on the porch snapped.

“ Dis house has only family inside.” Kelani said firmly.

That really should have been all there was to say…Keoki stepped back…and started to shut the door…the surfer blocked it from being shut.

“ I’d like to check for myself if you don’t mind.” He said with a smug look.

“ Get off the porch.” Keoki said between his teeth.

“ Just a little peek and we’ll be on our way.” The surfer said again…leaning into the house brazenly…

Keoki had to put a large hand on Lopaka’s chest to keep him from lunging. With his other large hand…he set his palm to the Surfer’s face…and pushed him physically out of the house. The surprised boy stumbled back out on to the porch. Keoki followed him out there and Rosey felt Kali tense.

That was it. They had decided to throw down with Keoki.

For the most part…her eldest brother was a giant fluffy bunny rabbit at heart.

But he had not gripe with protecting his friends and family these days…

The surfer who had tried to enter their house caught his balance and moved in to take a swing at Keoki.

Keoki was not an eloquent fighter. He steeled himself, brought his head down, and let the punch glance off the top of his head. He then shoved the offender off the porch and into the sand.

Now they were on his turf.

The two boys locked together and scuffled for a few moments. Keoki had the advantage of having the much stronger upper body. He tossed the surfer around like he was shaking out a dirty rug.

When his five friends realized that this was going to end in an embarrassingly one-sided way for their comrade…they jumped in to help.

What they had not been expecting was a small, brown, ball of fury called Lopaka… launching himself off the porch and into the fray.

With the charm and grace of a badger with a toothache, he went to the aid of his older brother.

Not as keen on the physical…the Moki and Kelani waited. They had been in fights with the smallest boy…and knew that if they jumped in now…it was be an uneven fight. Two against six would be fair if one of the two was Lopaka La’akalani.

Lopaka had a natural talent for violence. He basically used every part of his small body to reek havoc on the other boys. A headbutt to the middle of one…a foot to the groin of another…and the ever classic fist in the faces of the other two. One of them found themselves the hapless subject to a experiment to see if his bony elbow was indeed a new and painful weapon.

The knowledge that they were outmatched came in less than two minutes.

Lopaka kicked sand at their retreating forms. Keoki let the first surfer go and allowed him to run after his friends.

“ You like make one stink??? Trow down??? You Like try???” Lopaka shouted after them. He was puffed up and strutting in the sand…spoiling for them to come back.

Keoki patted the thin boy’s back.

“ You eat too much shark, Paka.” He said…ruffling the boy’s hair.

Together, they walked up the porch steps and back into the house. Kelani closed the door and locked it. Moki ruffled Lopaka’s hair as well…then turned to his sister.

“ Okay…grief’s done. You can let her go now.” He smirked. He noted that Kali looked the tiniest bit reluctant to let her captive go.

Rosey was still warring against seething rage.

“ I want to help you…and all I seem to be doing is making it worse.” She ground out.

“ Nothing sleep won’t fix.” Keoki said with infuriating reason.

“ I can’t sleep. My father isn’t going to stop at that. They’ll come again… or someone different will…” Rosey said incredulously. Her anger fading to confusion at their reaction to the thought that she might be a harbinger of doom…a dark horsewoman of the Apocalypse…

She felt Kali put a warm hand on her back…trying to give her some reassurance. They all seemed so casual about it. It was oddly catching…

“ Then nothing a Magnum Marathon can’t fix.” Keoki said easily…reaching for the television knob. “Tomorrow we worry.”

God I love kali's family and how calm and supportive they are. ANd I love Kali's assertion that she will kiss Rosey, not maybe, but certainly. Favorite line:

Not now…of course…because Rosey was sound asleep and they both would definitely have killah wiffah morning breath…
