Summary: It's been five years since High School ended for the Sunnydale crowd, will thing be the same when a reunion takes place? Or will somethings remain the same?
*Notes - I wrote this because my muse was on vacation and she came back with boatloads of ideas and such. I'm going to be posting short updates every now and then.
I haven't forgotten about any other fic, especially BTAT, but I needed to write this and I hope you all enjoy it!
It's practically AU, flashbacks take place in S3 really, but I never mentioned the Hellmouth or slayers powers, so you can use your own imagination there. The future is AU...make sense?
It's a short simple fic about the one who got away. And one last thing, enjoy!
**All flashbacks are in italics
~Five by Five~
Chapter One - These Are The Days
Willow closed her apartment door and scrummaged through the mail. “Junk,” she tossed a few flyers onto the hallway table and placed the bills in a small basket before getting to her last envelope. “Your invitation to your five year high school reunion.”
Sitting down on her soft couch, she opened up the envelope and laughed at the maroon and gold like colours of the card. “Welcome to Sunnydale High, Class of ‘99.”
Reading over the card she found that it was planned for her weekend off and she’d be able to fly to Sunnydale for the occasion. “Of course Cass wouldn’t be to happy about me leaving the state,” she mumbled.
Willow was a well known Computer Tech in the State of New York. She moved away from her family and friends a year after she graduated and went to college and found herself a good job and her own apartment. For a while, she had a roommate to help her out with the bills, but Buffy went back to Sunnydale to help her mom out with her younger sister.
Cass was Willow’s assistant and best friend in New York. They were roommates until Cass confessed that she had a huge crush on the redhead, and Willow felt nothing more for the brunette, than just a friend. Cass moved out thinking it was the best thing to do, but the two remained close.
Thinking back to high school, Willow couldn’t help but smile at the memories of her days in school. “Ah, such fun.”
Climbing up on a stool, she grabbed her year book and opened it up. “Whoa, check out Cordelia’s hair,” she chuckled and then her gaze landed on another student, in her graduation robe, “Tara,” she whispered, thinking back to the day when she first met the blonde.
~
“I don’t get why you just don’t go up to her and say ‘hi’,” Cordelia rolled her eyes.
“Did you look at her Cordy?” Xander hissed as he continued to watch the new blonde look over her time table.
Willow sat back and watched the blonde as well. She couldn’t help but let her eyes wander at the curvyness of her body, and those blue eyes and cute frown when she was concentrating. It wasn’t a secret to her friends that the she liked women, she let that cat out of the bag last year, when she has a die hard crush on Angelina Jolie.
“You talk to her Will,” Xander nudged the redhead forward.
“Xander!’ Willow scowled and moved back into her previous place by the tree. “Get Buffy to bring her over here.”
“Buffy’s in detention with Faith,” Cordelia sighed. “Fine, I’ll talk to her, you cowards.”
Xander and Willow both watched as the brunette made her way up to the blonde and started small chit-chat. “You know, I hope she doesn’t make fun of her wardrobe.” Xander whispered.
“Hey! What’s wrong with her wardrobe?” Willow frowned. “That is a thrifty long skirt and that blouse is to die for,” her eyes traced over the patterns on the girl’s outfit.
“Why is she bringing her over here?” Xander panicked and quickly turned around, trying not to look obvious in their starefest.
Willow, however, instantly caught the blue eyes and her lips curled into a smile. “Hi!” She said, even before Cordelia had a chance to introduce them. “I’m Willow,”
“T-Tara,” the blonde smiled shyly.
“This is my loser boyfriend, Xander,” Cordelia looped her arm around his as they shook hands.
“First day? I can show you around, I’m good at showing new people around,” Willow babbled.
“You show a lot of p-people around?” Tara smirked.
“Well no, not really, I showed Faith around, but she wasn’t really paying attention to me anyway...”
“Just show her around!” Cordelia sighed. “Come on Xander, let’s go make-out.”
Tara suppressed a chuckle and turned her attention back to the redhead standing before her. “So, t-tour?”
“Right, yes!” Willow grabbed her bag and threw it over her shoulder. “So where are you transferring from?”
“Alabama,” Tara sighed and smiled lightly. “My father received a good job offer here as a...something,” she frowned.
“Hey, you’re not stuttering anymore,” Willow pointed out softly.
“I’m not nervous anymore,” the blonde smiled. “What about you? Been here long?”
“All my life,” the redhead sighed. “I had a chance to move in with my Aunt, she lives in Montana, but then Buffy came here and I didn’t want to leave her, she’s my best friend, only she’s been hanging out with Faith a lot more...they’re in detention right now...oh right, I was talking about moving, I hope to get out of here someday, maybe after I graduate.”
“Wow, you babble, I stutter...I have a feeling we’ll get along just fine,” Tara smiled warmly.
“Me too,” Willow grinned and continued to show the blonde her way around the school.
~
Willow sighed and continued to flip through her year book, wondering whatever happened to the one that got away.
