Fic: Camp Flutie

Postby Rane » Sun Mar 24, 2002 7:48 pm

Title- Camp Flutie
Rated- PG for now. Hehe… =) I’ll let you know when it get’s NC-17 cause you just know that’s coming! (um, no pun intended)
Summary- This one time, at regular camp, Willow and her friends…
Notes- Absolutely half AU, timeline is all wonky but takes place after the first year of college. Oz and Willow did break up but he didn’t leave. Tara never came to Sunnydale (I know, blasphemy! But wait, you KNOW she’s in this fic, hello this is me writing!) Some characters from Buffyverse are in here but a little different.
Danka- to MC for her feedback editing type of stuff and telling me when something didn’t make sense to her. But I must admit I’ve done revisions without her looking over them again so feedback from everyone very much welcome.

Hope you like my sillyness!

The one and a half hour ride to Camp Flutie was a miserable experience for Willow Rosenberg. Not only had her best friend Xander thrown up two times in a travel bag right beside her, but also Buffy and Riley decided to suck face the whole trip while sitting in the seat in front of her. Willow knew it was an omen, a bad omen. This summer, camp was going to suck even if this year they were the camp counselors on their way to their three day orientation.

It wasn’t that Willow minded going to camp. She liked getting away from Sunnydale and everything Hellmouth-y in her town. Giles noted how summers were always slow for demons and hence slow for the Scooby gang and their demon slaying. Besides, if anything “end of the world” were to happen they were only a phone call away.

With her two best friends and her best friends’ boyfriend, a couple other people from Sunnydale were also joining in the happening fun. Along with some others from home Oz, Cordelia, Harmony, and Anya were in for the ride.

Willow sighed thinking about her ex boyfriend sitting with his best friend Devon a few rows in front of her. At least things with Oz were good, their split last year having been amicable and all. And the redhead certainly didn’t want to think about the group of girls that constantly chided and taunted her. She just hoped they wouldn’t do it in front of her campers.

She and Buffy were co-counselors for the summer even though everyone else had been given other tasks helping run the camp. Xander, of course, would be working in the kitchen. Riley would run the sports activities with his pal Forrest. Oz and Devon were both in charge of the “radio station” and anything techie for the plays and dances throughout the session. Willow didn’t understand why they were running the station with the loud speaker since that basically meant waking up everyone in the morning and announcing the schedule throughout the day. Back at home the sun had passed its zenith by the time those two ever woke up.

Cordelia was in charge of arts and crafts, Harmony in charge of the theater and choir for some reason, and Anya, well, Willow didn’t know what Anya would be doing just yet. Perhaps staring at Xander all summer and following him around like a love struck puppy as she normally did.

“How you doin’ there, Will?” Xander asked appearing like he was about to throw up again.

“I should be asking you.” She grinned back.

“Buses. Man, I can’t stand this. Would have rather used my skateboard.”

“I’m sure we’re almost there.” She tried to comfort him even though Willow had no clue. All the trees looked alike to her and it’d been the same trees since they left Sunnydale. There had been a couple of hills too but that wasn’t the point.

Not two minutes after Willow spoke, the big yellow bus pulled into a long driveway up to the camp area. Some kids on the bus began to cheer while others burped and did under the arm fart noises. One kid in particular sitting alone near the back exit was very excited. Jonathon was looking forward to the fact that as a counselor he would have kids looking up to him rather than down. Unless they were taller then him, he was a short little guy. Like Willow, he too was always made fun of but unlike Willow he really didn’t have good friends to back him up.

The Scoobs, as they called themselves, were a tight group: Buffy, Willow, Xander were always looking out for each other. Buffy’s whole destiny as the Vampire Slayer, the one girl in all the world with the strength to kill vampires and demons, was shared with the Scoobs ever since moving to Sunnydale four years earlier. Boyfriends and girlfriends came and went but the core three were a threat to be reckoned with. And who could forget Giles, Buffy’s watcher sent by the Slayer’s council from England to watch over the Slayer and teach her. Well, try to teach her since Buffy was not one to follow commands very much.

Willow took in a deep breath as the clearing presented the layout of the camp. Not that bad, Willow thought, everything seemed to be within decent walking distance. Walking was something she really didn’t want to spend her summer doing. She already did that back home patrolling every night with the Scoobs.

She saw the mess hall and the theater, and she already knew there were toilets and sinks in each cabin but the showers were in an adjacent building. As long as there were no Daddy Long Legs crawling about in her cabin she’d be fine. She hated spiders with a passion right below her hatred of frogs.

As the bus unloaded with humans and their luggage, Willow helped walk Xander to a nearby tree where he proceeded to throw up one last time. Last year had been his record, he upchucked seven times. Last summer also had been their last hurrah as campers with, among many other things, the freedom to raid other cabins in the middle of the night. This year they were the ones thwarting raids, and stopping the food fights and catching the underage smoochies behind the cabins.

“Hello, everybody I am Doug Flutie, camp moderator. Welcome to Camp Flutie.” A dorky looking kinda man announced as he walked up to the group of twenty. Next to him stood a detached uppity woman with a load of papers in her hands.

“We know who you are, moron!” someone said loud enough he was heard by all.

Mr. Flutie looked amongst the gathered and knew exactly who it was. After all, the British accent gave him away. “William, I anticipate better behavior from you. This year you are a counselor, a leader, you all are. I expect you to behave in a civilized, adult fashion.”

“Well, my parents are adults and they certainly aren’t civilized.” Another recent arrival retorted.

Mr. Flutie simply sighed. “We are to meet at the cafeteria in exactly one hour. Until then settle in cabins, get to know your neighbors, etc, etc, etc. You all did bring the packets I mailed you, right?”

A loud murmur ran through the crowd and most shook their heads. Mr. Flutie rolled his eyes, “Miss Post here has all your cabins assignments and camp maps. Please don’t lose them. Again. See you at lunch.”

Willow dreaded the fact that this year Xander would be the one in charge of the kitchen staff. She wasn’t looking forward to finding actual bugs in the bug juice and mystery meat Wednesdays was not her idea of funny. Probably due to the fact that he hadn’t prepared this particular meal, Willow felt comfortable and ate her burger with no worries.

As her eyes scanned the mess hall she tried to block out Buffy’s constant chatter.

“And Riley thinks making out in the forest is so romantic.” The Slayer continued on and on. “Like-”

“Who’s that?” Willow interrupted as her eyes gazed a little too long on a blue eyed blonde girl across the room. She hadn’t been in the bus, Willow would have certainly noticed her then, and she wasn’t a camper from last year. She would have noticed that too.

Buffy took a bite of her burger and replied, “Oh, that’s Karen. Or is it Taryn? I don’t remember. She was out in the forest and accidentally walked in on me and Riley while we were getting it on with the smoochies.”

Willow didn’t answer back, she just kept staring. The blonde was the most breathtaking girl she’d ever seen. It seemed she carried a halo over her head, like an angel. Her lips were… Willow suddenly realized that she’d never had thoughts like these before. Ok, maybe a couple of times before but she was Oz’s girlfriend. Or had been. She went out with Oz and she’d been in love with Xander, like, forever…

Buffy carried on, “I think she said she’s the new riding instructor. Can we say birkenstocks and granola?”

“What the hell does that mean?” Willow turned to her in a little disturbed by Buffy’s flippant remark.

“Uh, nothing. She looks like she’s a hippie. That’s all. Geez.” Buffy took another bite of her burger.

Willow dropped it. “What happened to Donnie?” she asked wondering about last years riding instructor.

“Booted, I bet.”

“Oh.”

Oblivious to Willow’s staring, Buffy continued on with her story, “So then…”

***************

Willow loved Buffy. She was her best friend, saved her life plenty of times while out on patrol on when she’d get kidnapped by some monster, she shared her pain during times of heartaches but if Buffy did not shut up about her and Riley the redhead was about ready to stand up and walk away. Buffy’s non stop *me* talk was driving the redhead insane and it took a lot to make her annoyed. Actually, Willow did exactly that. Politely she excused herself and went to return her plates and tray.

The redhead made sure to inconspicuously take the long way, the way that would take her past Taryn, or Karen. She hoped to find out her real name soon but till then she looked more like a Taryn than a Karen to her.

The blonde was sitting alone, reading a book, towards the edge of her table. Willow noticed she had hardly touched her lunch. Just an apple was eaten. If Willow had any courage she would have asked her why she hadn’t eaten anything. She also would have asked her what book she was reading. One thing Willow absolutely adored more than her laptop computer were books. Willow was a bookworm and very, very proud of it. Well, unless she was being made fun of because of it. But she was still proud nonetheless.

As she proceeded to walk past the blonde, Willow prayed to all the deities she had memorized during her study of Wicca to not trip and make a fool of herself. Her prayers were soon replaced when her sense of smell overtook her. Vanilla. Vanilla everywhere. The girl smelled like vanilla.

“Willow!” Cordelia said in her typical Cordelia like tone when addressing the redhead. It was one of pure bitch and abject boredom.

She looked over at Cordelia and shook her head slightly. “Oh god no,” Willow moaned under her breath. She didn’t feel like being made fun of yet again by her childhood acquaintance. “Hey, Cordy.”

“Yeah. Whatever. Look, you speak Xander speak, right? Tell the boy that I have my meals sent to me daily and that they *need* to be refrigerated. I will not be subjected to this crap, especially since he’s the one in charge of the kitchen this summer. Got it?”

“Well, did you tell him?” she asked not really caring. She just wanted Cordelia to disappear.

“Well, duh, I told him. I just wanted to you make sure he understands that if he messes with me in any way, shape of form this summer I will sue him.”

Willow rolled her eyes a little and sighed. “Fine.” She waited until Cordelia had walked past her to whisper, “I hope he spits in them.”

A low giggle brought her back to reality. Willow suddenly recognized where she was and what she had been doing. She looked over to her left and saw the shyest yet cutest smile she had ever seen in her life radiating from the mysterious blonde. Their eyes connected for a second and Willow was entranced by how blue they were. Like the ocean, endless.

Even though her heart was palpitating and she was a nervous wreck, she couldn’t help it and managed to twitter out a simple, “Hey.”

“H-hi.” The blonde replied as she nervously drew her lower lip under with her teeth.

The innocent display made Willow’s hear skip a beat and she would berate herself afterwards for what she did next. “I, uh… I gotta go.” With that Willow took off toward the front of the mess hall and loudly dropped her tray and plates into the bin.

As she walked back to Buffy she couldn’t help but think it was always the same with her. Whenever she found someone that intrigued her she’d shy up and words that usually came effortless to her in her mastery of babbling were blocked. Her brain functioned the same exact way every the time. She’d garble, maybe say a few vowel sounds and then run away. Just like she had done right now.

As she sat at the table with Buffy she wanted more than anything to look over to the blonde and see if she was looking at her. Yeah, looking at her like she was a freak, Willow thought. That smile though…

Buffy’s voice interrupted her daydream. “Did I tell you what Riley is planning for the banquet?”

Thoughts of the blonde faded as Willow tried to do the best friend thing again and try to listen this time. It was the longest five minutes of her life until the call for the round robins to begin came.

***************

For the next three hours all the counselors were split up into groups, and went from activity to activity getting to know the instructor and the agenda for the rest of the session. Rules were explained, games were illustrated. The counselors even played some of the games as icebreakers. Not that they needed them since everyone pretty much knew each other already from last year or Sunnydale.

At the archery field Willow knew she would never be an archer when she grew up. Not that she wanted to either. But it was pretty embarrassing to have every single arrow miss even the huge stack of hay ten feet in front of her.

“Willow,” Oz walked up, hands in pockets, “shoulders down.”

“I’m trying. I’m all tense-y.” she said as she loaded up again.

“Massage?”

Willow grinned, “Thanks, but no.” She focused on the bullseye once more as she drew her bow and arrow down.

“So, who are you going to banquet with this year?” he nonchalantly asked as he stood next to her and watched.

Willow missed again. “The session hasn’t even begun and you’re already thinking about that?” she turned her head to look at him.

“I like to be prepared.”

The redhead knew it was just Oz’s quirky sense of humor, she knew he wasn’t asking her to the dance. After all he’d been the one to break up with her last year out of the blue. For weeks she hadn’t understood why he’d broken up with her after a year and a half of dating. And truth be told she still didn’t know, but a few months afterwards they became friends again and he’d even help once in a while with the patrolling and research fests the Scoobs would have to help Buffy.

Willow’s eyes traveled beyond Oz towards a figure in the hilly background. The blonde was riding a horse followed by a group of riders. Willow couldn’t believe she felt both excited and scared at the same time. See, Willow was petrified of horses due to an accident on her fourth birthday she’d tried to forget. Leave it to fate to have the girl she was crushing on be a riding instructor who spent her days surrounded by big, tall, teeth-that could-take-your-arm-off horses.

“She’s good.” Oz remarked after following Willow’s gaze.

“Yeah.”

“And pretty.” He added.

“Yeah.” Willow unconsciously agreed with a sweet sigh. Confused once she realized what she’d said she looked at Oz again. “What?”

Oz just smirked.

“Look, Willow, I made five bullseyes in a row!” Buffy prided out loud.

Willow broke the mutual stare fest only to anxiously look at Oz again. His expression hadn’t changed. Quickly she turned her attention to Buffy and proceeded to congratulate her.

***************

Before Willow knew it was time for the horseback riding lesson. Buffy had to basically drag the redhead near the stables. She was careful not to use her full strength on her thin friend. Having the super human strength she had she could break her bones and that would not be camp fun for either of them.

“No, please.” Willow entreated as she tried to squirm out of her best friends’ grasp. So many thoughts were running through her mind but she couldn’t formulate a sentence. She knew if she started to talk a babble fest would begin and she wouldn’t be able to stop. And, the conflicting feeling weren’t helping either. She was scared of the horses but still wanted to see the new riding instructor. She was torn between fear and hope.

“You are a counselor! What kind of a role model are you if you don’t go in there and learn to ride horses?”

“Buffy, I-“

“Is there a problem?” A familiar voice asked from behind the two friends.

Buffy turned around to the voice. “Karen, uh, Taryn-“

“Tara.” The girl corrected her as she nervously grinned at the two of them.

“Right. Sorry. I didn’t- My co-counselor and best friend Willow here is petrified of horses.” Buffy nudged Willow to stand up straight.

Willow’s mind was still on the girls name. Tara. So earthly and goddess-y. She hadn’t noticed both were staring at her. “Huh?” she asked as she became a bit breathless when her eyes connected with Tara’s.

“Your horse phobia.” Buffy spelled out for her.

“Bad… birthday. Pony thing.” Willow succeeded to say. If she could have kicked herself for sounding so silly she would have.

Tara simply nodded. “Y-yeah, pony’s can be crazy. But these horses are the s-sweetest in the world. I give you my word.”

Hearing that attestation comforted Willow, “Really? Cause horses, I don’t like them.” She admitted.

She realized she may have hurt Tara’s feelings when the blonde replied, “W-well, um, I’m sure Buffy can bring your campers alone if you don’t like the horses.” her voice lowered with every word.

“No!” Willow shouted a bit too loudly. ‘I- I want to come. I want to like the horsies and ride them. I want to like them a lot. I just…” She saw Tara’s lopsided grin and her heart melted. “I just don’t know where to start.”

Buffy slid her arm with Willow’s, “Well, you’re still about 20 paces from the stable so lets get a move on it.” and they walked ahead to the stable.

***************

It had been five minutes and Willow was still standing about ten feet away from the horse assigned to her. All the other counselors were bonding with their horses, stroking their coat, feeding them, some even mounting up saddles. Hers just stared at her with his beady brown eyes and long lashes. Willow swore he looked bored. Or was it a she? Curious, she bent over slightly to get a better look.

“Are you ok?” Tara timidly asked as she walked up to Willow.

The redhead jumped. “Ohmygod!” She held her hand over her heart. “Don’t sneak up on people with horse phobias in a stable surrounded with horses that cause phobias!” Willow finally smiled when her breathing calmed down to let her know she was kidding.

Tara giggled. “Sorry.”

“My fault. I was just…” Willow shrugged her shoulders nervously. “I’m working on it.”

“On what?” Tara asked as she looked at the petite redhead.

“On closing the gap between me and the horse and petting her.”

“It’s a he.” Tara replied as a matter of fact.

“Oh? I didn’t see- You know, I wouldn’t know what to look for down there anyway. I mean I do. Everything has something down there ya know and boys have a distinct- They have things. Certain things that- Oh god. Stop me now, please.” Willow blushed furiously.

“Ok.” Tara smirked as she watched Willow squirm. “Give me your hand.” She softly stated.

Willow was quite confused by the request. “What?”

Tara held her right hand out to Willow. “Your hand.”

Tentatively, Willow reached over and clasped the blondes’ hand. She didn’t know what to expect. Where her white palms going to feel soft? Where they as sweaty as she feared hers were? Was there going to be finger lacing?

With some of her questions answered Tara simply led Willow closer to the stable door. One step, two steps, three steps…

‘Ok, heart starting to palpitate again’ Willow thought. She just couldn’t figure out if it was from Tara’s soft and caring touch or from the closer they got to the horse with their forward movement.

“Relax.” Tara whispered quietly and lightly squeezed her hand as they stopped about a foot away from the pen. The horse was still standing towards the back simply staring at the two girls standing in his enclosed area’s doorway.

After seeing the horse hadn’t really budged closer to them, Willow looked over at Tara and nodded. She gave herself that moment to Tara and the blonde received the message loud and clear. Tara slowly raised both their arms and turned Willow’s hand up, facing the roof of the stable. Then, she quickly moved her hand underneath Willows’ and held it firmly from underneath the small wrist, her thumb in the middle of Willow's M on her palm.

Willow giggled nervously as Tara called the horse to them with a low clicking sound. “Shh…” Tara voiced very softly, dangerously close to Willow’s ear.

She’d been so preoccupied by the blondes hand holding hers that she never noticed Tara was now standing behind her and a bit to the side so she could see the horse in front of them. Willow registered she was actually calling the horse to them with her own hand and the sounds. Then, she realized the horse was actually moving towards them.

Her knees were turning into jelly as she took in everything that was happening, both the Tara thumb gently caressing her hand and the horsie walking to her. She could feel Tara’s heart beating and it was very bizarre since their bodies weren’t actually touching.

The horse promptly walked over to the two. Willow’s hand was kept in place by Tara, her body blocked from running away by the blonde. Willow thought all she had left was to let the horse bite her fingers off and closed her eyes waiting in anticipation. ‘What a romantic way to lose a digit’, she thought. But the pain never came. What came was a couple of ticklish whiskers and a very, very soft snout sniffing the palm. A large gooey tongue darted out to lick it.

Willow beamed as she opened her eyes and saw the horse was not biting her at all. This was making her very, very happy. She looked over to Tara and as soon as their smiles and eyes connected a current ran through the both of them. Startled by the intensity of the encounter both girls jumped away from each other and the horse was scared off back into his pen neighing loudly.

Buffy noticed the commotion from afar and ran over to them. “Will! Are you ok? Did he bite you?”

Willow looked at her hand, front and back. All fingers were there. “ No.” she replied in wonder. She looked at Tara who seemed as surprised as she was.

“I, uh…” Tara looked at Willow again and then to Buffy. “I don’t- I don’t know. He, he didn’t bite… I’m, um, I’m going to go check on the o-others.” Tara mentioned and walked away with her eyes looking down at the ground. Willow watched her leave.

Buffy noticed how Tara was blushing. She looked over at Willow and saw she was too. “What the hell just happened?” Buffy asked.

Willow’s gaze turned back to Buffy and she slowly smiled. “I touched a horse.” She said as she looked at her hand in awe. She could still feel the energy crackling from Tara’s touch.

“Welcome to the club. Are you sure you’re all right?” Buffy asked again.

“Yeah… When’s the next round?” Willow changed the topic once she ran her fingers through her hair hoping Tara’s lingering touch would not be erased. She nervously fiddled with her shirt and looked at Buffy.

The slayer eyed her but let it go. “Twenty minutes. Arts and crafts.”

“Good. Good.” Willow said quite distracted. Her mind was still processing everything that had happened with the blonde. “I could use another macaroni necklace.”

***************

Dinnertime was upon them and Willow still couldn’t shake the afternoon experience with Tara from her mind. She’d been thinking about it non stop the rest of the day. Her whole body tingled as she looked forward to seeing her again. It wasn’t just a crush, Willow knew, it was something else. Something deeper, something powerful, magical. Willow’s eyes widened. Magic.

“Earth to Willow.” Buffy tapped on her arm slightly.

“What?” Willow turned to her a bit dazed. Was Tara a witch as well?

“You’ve been scanning the room since we sat down. Who are you looking for? Oz?” Before Willow could reply Buffy saw Riley and shouted out to him to come over to them.

Riley, trailed by Xander on a break from his duty, walked over tray in hands and sat down with the two girls. “Hey.” He said as he kissed Buffy on the lips. “How was your day?”

As their conversation faded in the background Willow turned to Xander. She noticed he wasn’t eating. “Aren’t you eating?”

“No, I know what’s in the food.” Willow was about ready to spit out her spaghetti and meatballs and Xander noticed. He laughed as he watched her gag. “I’m kidding, Will. I ate already. All day actually. Everything here is sterilized. Is that the right word?” His eyes wandered over to Cordelia’s table. As usual she was surrounded by her posse of followers. “Man, Cordy just gets hotter every year.”

Willow rolled her eyes as she swallowed her food. She took a quick sip of her juice and replied, “Ewww.” to the Cordelia comment.

Suddenly her eyes registered Tara entering the dining hall with Oz. He courteously held the door open for her and she smiled her adorable shy smile. She felt a pang of jealousy and furrowed her brow.

Xander saw this. “What’s a matter, Will, getting jealous? I thought you and Oz were done.”

Willow nodded. “We are. We’re still friends. I’m not jealous.”

“Hey Oz!” the redhead heard Riley call out to him and wave his hand to come over.

Oz nodded and mentioned something to the blonde, she nodded slightly and trailed behind him towards the table.

“Oz, my man, how goes it?” Riley shook the shorter guys hand. “Hey, Tara.” He said as the two newcomers sat down.

“Tara, you know Buffy and Xander, and Willow, right?” Oz asked as he spoke of the others.

“Yes.” Was all Tara mouthed as Buffy and Xander smiled and bopped their heads up and down in agreement.

Willow quickly averted her eyes to her plate and realized without warning she wasn’t hungry anymore. The room suddenly got hot and her head began to spin just a teeny bit. She tentatively lifted her eyes to look at the blonde and was a bit relieved to find the shy girl had actually joined in conversation with her friends. Not that Willow could hear the conversation around her. She’d gone deaf all of the sudden and her eyes only registered the blonde sitting in front of her.

Suddenly Tara’s eyes connected with hers and Willow let out a squeak having been caught in her starefest. “What?” she tried to play off as if she’d just misunderstood something. Or maybe if the gods were being benevolent that evening someone had actually asked her a question and she’d been too far gone in Taraland to process it. Either way Willow registered Tara’s adorable grin and sighed. “What?” she asked again, this time a bit more controlled.

“Yeah, Will, private lessons are just what you need.” Buffy said as she ran her fingers through Riley’s hair. “Face your fear.”

“Lessons?” She asked getting even more confused by the minute.

Oz looked at her funny, “I suggested Tara give you lessons during our breaks after lunch.”

Willow glanced over at Tara whose eyes were lowered. Willow knew she was uncomfortable, she felt it. “I’m sure Tara’s busy and all. I mean a stable full of horsies- that’s a lot of horsies and work. She shouldn’t waste her time with me. The horsies have their horsie needs to be taken care of.”

Tara’s eyes darted up. “I-I- wouldn’t mind.”

“You sure?” Willow asked her worried that Tara was just being sweet.

“Company would be nice.” She quietly voiced.

“Human company.” Xander added as he stole a meatball from Willow's plate with his fingers.

The two girls smiled bashfully at one another as the rest of the gang continued on to other topics.

***************

The next eighteen hours seemed endless to Willow. The rest of the day and evening she spent in a Tara daze, not really paying attention at all the different orientation functions that she attended with Buffy. She figured she knew all the camp rules, safety instructions and emergency protocol since she was most definitely one of the few counselors that actually read the manual before coming to orientation. She even brought it with her.

After lunch, Buffy had held Willow up at the dining hall to talk about some of the cabin decorations she was going to go make during the break. Willow ooh’d and nodded not really paying attention to her best friend. She honestly didn’t care what they looked like, she just wanted to see Tara again. They hadn’t lunched together since the camp staff was off doing the obstacle courses throughout the campgrounds to build solidarity within the group and so they had a cook out in the field. The counselors would be doing it the following morning and Willow was not looking forward to waking up at five a.m., climbing walls in the forest or participating in the “trust fall”.

Willow candidly thought about the two hours that she would spend with Tara alone as she headed towards the stables. Suddenly the redhead frowned as a thought popped up. She couldn’t forget the horses no matter how much it made her tummy woozy. But if she had to be around horses just to be able to spend the time with Tara she’d do it. She needed to figure out a way to have them meet elsewhere as well.

Although she was already fifteen minutes late, she slowly walked up to the barn, lost in thoughts of silky blonde hair and doe shaped blue eyes. Ruby red lips and… Willow tripped on an overgrown root three paces from her destination and stumbled forward falling face first to the ground.

“Ugh,” she cried as she rose up and wiped the dirt off her hand with her jeans. “Brilliant, Willow. Just brilliant.” She chided herself under her breath. Leave it to Willow Rosenberg to sure know how to make an entrance.

At last she reached the stable and called out lightly, “Tara?” as she stood by the exceedingly large doorframe.

“In here.” Came a soft voice from inside.

“Hey, it’s Willow.” She muttered as she entered cautiously. “Willow… with the horse phobia.” She murmured aloud. ‘You dummy’, she chided herself. She’d read somewhere horses could feel emotions and these sure did, they began to snort in response to her.

As Tara appeared from an empty pen near the back of the stables, Willow thought she looked so cute with her tousled blouse and some stray hay attached to her jeans. There was even some hay in her hair. “Shhh,” Tara admonished the horses with an even cuter furrowed brow. As she slowly walked up to her Willow watched Tara run her fingers through her hair looking for any dried grass.

“Hi.” The blonde smiled once she reached Willow and threw aside some of the hitchhiking hay with a small grin. She proceeded to pull her hair into a ponytail.

“Hi.” Willow said again. “You have some hay on your chest,” she mentioned with a smile as she extended her hand to grab it. Her eyes widened when she realized that her hands were moving all on their own and she had to have been staring somewhere in particular to notice the stray feed. She quickly retracted her hand and said, “I’m sorry. I noticed that because you have some hay on your chest and not because I was… I wasn’t looking- I…“ She shook her head not knowing how to remedy her lack of discretion. Nervously, she held her hands behind her back.

Tara suppressed a smile as she looked down and fanned the hay away. “Thank you.”

“Sure.”

Both girls stood in place a bit restless, Willow rocking back and forth from foot to foot as Tara crossed and uncrossed her arms over her body.

“Y-you don’t have to do this,” the blonde spoke first, “We can pretend.”

“Pretend?” Willow didn’t understand what she meant.

“The h-horses. The stables. You d-don’t have to… be here.” Tara gazed at the ground.

Willow smiled shyly as soon as Tara’s eyes connected with hers. “I want to.” Willow saw Tara grin and her body relax a bit. “I’m sorry I’m late. Buffy was, um… Buffy was talking, as usual. Not that that is all she does. It’s just…” Willow held her breath not knowing what to say.

“She seems very nice.” Tara mentioned breaking the silence.

“She is. She’s my best friend it’s just sometimes… you know?” Tara’s blank stare answered her question. “Sometimes it’s just too much. I like quiet. Sometimes. But it’s hard to get quiet, my mind is always on, always thinking, always doing things… As is my mouth right now apparently. Sorry.” Willow quickly rolled her eyes as she lightly shook her head and sighed.

Tara smiled at the redheads babble. “Quiet is good. But so is talking. Sometimes.” Tara chuckled a bit.

“Yeah.” Willow grinned. She didn’t want it to be quiet with Tara. She wanted to hear her voice, watch her giggle, tell her stories… She didn’t understand the response she had with the blonde, she felt as if she knew Tara already and they were simply catching up on old times. But that wasn’t the case at all. They had met yesterday. They touched yesterday. “You felt it too, right? I wasn’t making that up?” she blurted out as soon as her green eyes connected with Tara’s blues.

Tara silently nodded as looked at her own right hand. It seemed to Willow that she even caressed it. “You’re a w-witch.” Tara softly stated her eyes not looking at her for the moment.

Willow quickly shook her head. “Oh, no. No. I just… I’m not… I don’t think I am. I mean, I’ve thought about it before but I’ve never-“

“Hey.” Oz’s voice suddenly rose up from behind the redhead as his left hand touched one of her shoulders.

“Oz, hi!” Willow jumped around startled by the newcomer. She quickly looked over to the blonde. “This is Oz.” Then, she remembered them walking into the dining hall together and shook her head slightly. “Oh, but you know him already, huh?” Her mind engrossed in the awkward moment asked Tara out of the blue, “Did you know Oz and I used to date? Last year. But not anymore. We’re still friends though. But no longer dating. Good friends.”

The blonde looked over at Oz and smirked. “He told me.”

Oz himself was a bit mystified by the comment. “Random much?” he asked as he pulled back a bit.

“What are you doing here?” Willow asked quite confused by his sudden appearance. She rubbed her palms on her jeans again just to do something with them. “I fell earlier.” She explained. “Lot’s of dirt on the ground.”

“Hence the saying, ‘the ground is dirty’” Oz joked.

Willow nervously laughed out loud. “Oh, you’re so funny, Oz… What are you doing here?” she asked trying not to be so accusatory about it but it came out that way none the less.

“Just came to check up on you. See how everything was going. Making sure you still had all your limbs.” Willows eyes widened at the last statement. “Relax, Willow,” Oz lovingly touched her face, “I’m kidding.”

Willow sighed in relief. “Right.”

Oz’s gaze turned to Tara and quickly clasped his hands together. “So, everything good?” He asked both of them.

“Yeah.” Willow nodded quite animated. “Yay for horsies.” She added courageously.

“Yes.” Tara added as she grinned at Willow’s comment.

Oz nodded and looked at both again. “Well, you two have fun then. See ya later.” the former boyfriend said as he turned to walk away.

“Bye.” Both girls uttered at the same time.

AS soon as Oz was out of view, Willow looked over at Tara and was about to say something but stopped herself and nervously wiggled her arms besides her. She was such a dork! Why did she say that about Oz? About the magic? She *was* a witch. Ok, not a very good one but she was still a witch. ‘A witch is a witch is a witch,’ she reminded herself.

“I think w-we should stick to the plan.” Tara interrupted her thoughts.

“Plan?”

“Help me clean out the pen?” Tara asked a bit hesitant as she motioned to the enclosure she had come out of.

Willow instantly nodded. “Yes. Of course… The horse isn’t in there right?”

Tara giggled, “No.”

“Oh.” Willow smiled. She’d only heard it a few times but already knew she loved Tara’s giggle. “Good.”

The next two days of orientation flew by for the redhead. Willow thoughts forever clouded by a certain blonde. Whenever they were together they stuck to business though. No mentioning of electric jolts, or magic, or other things that accounted for their deep gazes and shy smiles. Just simple getting to know you chit chat was discussed as Tara taught Willow about horses and horseback riding.

Willow still refused to get on a horse but at least she was getting more and more comfortable around them. As Tara explained each horses individual personality and how to work with them Willow’s understanding of them increased. She was no longer afraid of them and didn’t see them anymore as just really big ponies. She even learned how to properly attach a saddle in case one day she went crazy and randomly decided she wanted to ride one of the horses with Tara.

The more they talked during their short visits together, Willow noticed how Tara had a certain way of looking at the world that Willow found endearing. She was smart and sweet. And, Tara grew to like the quirky redhead more every minute, her funny faces, her incessant babbling. However Willow noticed Tara hardly spoke about herself or her family. She could talk hours about a novel she’d read or a painting she loved but never anything too personal.

Willow had inexplicably told her everything about her life, about Sunnydale and the Hellmouth and Buffy, and there would be times Willow would ask the blonde a direct question and Tara would give her an evasive answer, changing the subject right afterwards. Willow didn’t know if Tara knew she knew but Willow wasn’t one to press either. She knew that if the blonde wanted to talk to her she would.

On the third day of orientation Willow was slowly raking up some hay in one of the stalls when she looked over at Tara standing across the barn from her. The blonde had on the cutest confused look on her face as she tried figuring out how in the world one of the stirrups got entangled like that with the saddle.

Willow smiled widely as she rested her chin on the top of the rake and stared at her friend. “I’m so glad you’re here. Donnie, he was the instructor last year- he could be such an ass sometimes. I didn’t like him.”

Tara giggled as she held her hand over her mouth and revealed, “Yeah, my brother can be a pain.”

Willow suddenly dropped the rake and it clamored loudly on the ground. Some horses snorted in fright. “Oh my god! I’m sorry. I didn’t-“

Tara quickly walked up to her and gently touched her forearm. “Don’t worry about it.”

“No, I’m so sorry.” Willow reached over and held her hand over the blondes’. “I- I insert my foot in my mouth all the time. I didn’t know. I mean, I shouldn’t have said that anyhow but-”

“Willow, it’s ok.” She sweetly squeezed Willow’s forearm. “These are our horses. We rent them out to the camp. It’s one of our barns.” She explained as she began to feel Willow softly, ever so softly, stroking her thin fingers with her thumb. “That’s w-why I’m here.” She finished realizing that this was their first caress.

‘So that is why the horse came when Tara called it. It knew her. They know her. They trust her’, Willow thought. “I’m very glad you’re here.” Willow sighed as she looked at Tara, her thumbs never ceasing their movement. Tara’s fingers were so soft, her grip so tender.

“Me too.” the blonde smiled shyly.

Off in the distance the tower bell bellowed out the after lunch break was over. Willow looked out towards the campgrounds and sighed. She didn’t want to leave. Her campers would be arriving in the morning and she was afraid everything would change. She’d had a little bit of heaven the last three days with Tara.

Tara delicately retracted her hand from under Willow’s and crossed her arms over her chest. “I guess I’ll see you then.” She murmured quietly.

Willow looked into her eyes and pleaded with them, “I don’t want to go.” She said, her voice laced with sadness.

Tara chuckled lightly once she realized Willow said what she’d been thinking herself, she didn’t want her to go either. She looked up to Willow she replied, “I don’t want you to go.”

“Why don’t you ever go to the bonfires?” the redhead asked completely off topic. The nightly bonfires were a camp tradition for counselors and staffers after lights out. Willow only went to the bonfire by the open field because as a counselor this year she was allowed to go and thought that was cool. Well, that, and the hopes of seeing Tara again. But Tara hadn’t come the last three nights and she figured this was a great way to hang out with her away from horses and stables and such.

“I, uh, I don’t sleep on campus. My house is a few minutes away.”

‘No wonder,’ Willow thought to herself. She had exhausted all venues sans blatantly asking her or stalking to figure out where the blonde was staying on campus. Counselors had their own cabins with their campers but most of the extra curricular instructors had little huts off towards the edge of the camp. It was a tight nit group of outsiders, and even though Willow knew most of them she never traveled there.

“Well, if you wanted to, you know, go to the bonfire tonight or some other night, I’m sure you can stay with me and Buffy. She snores though.” Willow tried to keep her tone light even though her throat was aching for Tara to accept.

Tara grinned again, she couldn’t believe Willow had invited her to sleep over. She was thrilled by the idea and slowly nodded. “But not tonight.” She added as she frowned slightly.

Willow’s smile faded. “Why not?”

“I need clothes and stuff. You know.”

“Right.” Willow grinned. She heard the second bell chime. Oh, how she wished it would go away and that she didn’t have to leave. But she did have to go and although it broke her heart she downheartedly mentioned, “I should go. I’m way late.”

“Yes.”

Answers like that made Willow bubble with glee inside. Who said ‘yes’ anymore? Only her, only Tara.

Awkwardly, both just stood there wondering how this goodbye would transpire. Willow gathered up all her courage and tentatively raised her arms up and moved forward capturing Tara in a sweet embrace. Tara lovingly squeezed her back as soon as the redhead enveloped all her senses. She noticed how their hearts beat strongly against their chests at the simple hug. Slowly pulling back she lovingly kissed Willow’s cheek, surprised by her own actions.

“Bye.” She said a hushed tone as her warm breath caressed the redheads ear.

Willow’s heart was beating so hard and fast she was afraid she’d just keel over and die. “Bye.” She answered breathlessly as she began to slowly and painfully walk away, hands still holding on to one another and gradually parting in mid air.

***************

The next day the campers arrived at seven in the morning, and for the next six hours Willow had no time to rest. The eight 15 years olds she and Buffy were in charge of were too much to handle. So and so wanted a top bunk that was already taken by the time she’d lugged her two ton duffel bags to the cabin, another one wanted to call her parents already to take her home. One girl was complaining about the decorations Buffy had spent hours doing during saying it made the cabin look like her blind grandmothers house. Another one wanted to know exactly how far the boys’ cabins were and so on. They also spent an hour rearranging bunk beds and drawers, and setting up the boom box one girl brought while they spent another hour just confiscating all the items the girls had with them that were not allowed on campus such as junk food and fireworks.

By lunchtime Willow wanted out. She couldn’t believe Buffy convinced her to be a camp counselor this summer rather than taking courses at the university. But at least camp had Tara. She wanted to just run up to the stable and spend all day with Tara. Tara made the world disappear, time stopped when with her.

As she saw Tara enter the dining hall with a group of staffers her heart melted. With a smile on her face she watched as Tara scanned the room looking for her. As she observed her Willow thought about how much she wanted to run her fingers though her long blonde hair, how she wanted to caress her cheeks and look into her deep blue eyes, kiss her lips and hold her close. When their eyes met Willow felt her body get hot all over. Blushing, she waved her over to her table.

Now that the campers had arrived each cabin had an assigned table, even the staff. Tara looked over to where she had been assigned and it was completely in the opposite side of the room. She frowned slightly as she walked over to Willow who’d since stood up by the dining table waiting for her.

“I’m so far away.” Tara childishly kidded as she reached the redhead and stood in front of her.

Willow smiled again and shook her head. Tara was never far away. “Wanna sit?” she asked as she inhaled Tara’s scent. No matter what, Tara always smelled like vanilla. Even in the stables surrounded by horses and hay she smelled like vanilla.

“I don’t think I should.” Tara answered a bit troubled.

“Why not?” Willow asked even though she pretty much knew the reason.

“Coming through,” one of Willow’s campers, Jenn, said as she rushed in between the two girls and sat down in the middle of the table. Lunch today was ‘buffet style’ peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for all. All the kids were lined up in the front of the cafeteria waiting to make their lunches and it was total chaos.

Two more girls sat down at the table before Tara looked over at Willow and half smiled. “I’ll see you later… maybe?” she asked hoping she’d see her during the break. She knew Willow was extremely busy and she didn’t want to push.

Willow was heartbroken, “I’ll try. I can’t promise. I still…” She sadly frowned as she looked over to her table now holding three more of her girls.

Tara nodded, she understood. “Well, bye.” She half waved as she smiled at Willow. Her eyes remained with the green ones a bit longer before she turned away.

Willow wanted to say something else as she watched her walk away. But she didn’t, she couldn’t, she simply sighed and sat down at the edge of her table, watching as the blonde disappeared in the disorder of the dining hall.

***************

The following days passed extremely fast for Willow. She was so busy simply trying to do her job with the campers, playing the adult, settling them in, helping them bond and live peacefully together that the only times she saw Tara was when it was her groups turn to go horseback riding. And that had only been three times that week.

They had spoken a bit, smiled, and giggled a lot but Tara was insistent about not letting any of the kids get hurt and so their talks were always unfortunately cut short whenever the actual training began. Willow still refused to ride with them and instead did some of Tara’s chores in the stables while the blonde was off horseback riding with her campers and Buffy.

The only way Willow could think of to communicate more with Tara was through letters, letters she wrote to her at night. They started out as typical silly letters but ended up being very Willow like with much babble and many tangents. Tara’s replies were just the same. Hers sometimes even included little drawings and favorite verses from poems or novels. Both girls were so open in their letters that sometimes they’d blush just looking at each other the next time they met, knowing the secrets they were sharing.

Something that worried Willow was the fact Tara hadn’t yet come to one of the counselor bonfires, and she was beginning to think it was all her fault. She was so wrapped up helping her kids out that she never had the time to pass by after lunch anymore and invite her again to come and sleep over.

But Fridays at camp were different. They had a three hour break instead of two after lunch and this Friday Willow hurried to take care of everything her campers needed by the second hour. She rushed over to the stables leaving Buffy in charge of everything.

“Tara?” She breathlessly announced her presence once inside.

“Willow?”

Willow looked up to find the blonde was on a barrack of the roof reading one of her books. Tara smiled down at her as she bit her lower lip.

Willow sighed at the sight. “Hi.” Her eyes never gazed elsewhere as the blonde lowered herself to the ground with a bit of dexterity. Willow noticed her tight jeans cupped her backside really well. She had such a nice bum. Willow proceeded to open her mouth in shock and mentally scold herself.

Tara smiled as she walked up to the redhead trying to get strands of hay off her clothes. “Hi.” She then registered the flushed look on her friends face. “Are you ok?”

“Oh god yes. I mean, sorry! I’m just being-” Willow waved her hands in the air dismissing herself. “I’m sorry I haven’t been able to pass by sooner. My kids are so crazy. Two of them have the chickenpox and another one is so homesick already she’s tried to run away twice. And then-“ suddenly Tara’s fingers gently pressed up against her lips quieting the redhead.

“I understand.” Was all she said.

Willow knew Tara understood, she always did, and without realizing it Willow lovingly kissed the blondes fingertips in acknowledgment. Amazed she had done such a bold thing she hesitated to look up into the blue eyes staring at her. She could feel Tara’s eyes upon her and slowly lifted her gaze. Tara’s overwhelmed look quickly changed as she drew her lips into a smile and sighed. She slowly caressed Willow’s lips with her fingers only to have the redhead kiss them again.

Deliberately their bodies gravitated towards each other and Willow reached out to gently cup Tara’s face with her hands. Her skin was so soft, so velvety, so beautiful. She delicately caressed the high cheekbones with her thumbs while Tara’s fingers traveled down from the redhead’s lips towards her throat, tickling Willow in all the right spots.

Closer and closer their faces leaned. Almost there, almost kissing. Eyes were connected with eyes and their breathing was now the same slow rate.

“Willow!!!” Buffy yelled as she ran up the dirt road to the stable.

Both girls practically flew away from each other. Tara even stumbled over as she backed up into a stack of hay.

“Tara?” Willow asked rushing over to her concerned. She helped Tara balance herself out again and shook some of the hay off her.

“Willow!” Buffy yelled again, and once inside the barn she saw her. What she saw was her best friend gently rubbing the blondes’ lower back. Her eyes popped wide open. “Uh…”

Willow noticed her confused expression right away and explained. “Hay.”

“Hey.” Buffy said still a bit baffled.

Willow totally caught her drift and held up some of the hay she’d gathered from Tara’s back and hair. “Hay!” she said a bit more forcefully this time.

“Ooooh,” Buffy nodded and quickly got down to business. “Will, I think Jamie broke her arm.”

Jamie was Willow’s favorite camper, really shy and bookish like Willow. She was also tormented by a small group of girls at the camp and Willow loved being able to stand up for her since she was a counselor after all.

The redhead wondered if the camp nurse had the capabilities to x-ray Jamie’s arm or if they had to take her to a doctor in the nearby town. “Did you take her to Miss Calendar?”

“Yeah, but she’s crying for you. That’s why I ran all the way over here.” The Slayer replied. Tara noticed Buffy wasn’t breathing unevenly and hadn’t even broken a sweat. If that had been her she’d be so out of breath she’d probably pant the words out. But sometimes she did that naturally.

“Oh.” Willow’s heart ached. She looked over at Tara who nodded and silently told her it was all right for her to go. Willow turned back to Buffy and said, “I’ll be right there, you go ahead.”

“Fine. Hi, Tara. Bye, Tara.” Buffy said as she took of running back to the camp.

Once Willow noticed Buffy was far enough away she looked over at Tara, “I…”

“Go.” The blonde whispered.

“Are you ok?” the redhead asked. Tara nodded shyly again her eyes never leaving the green ones in front of her. “Will you come tonight? Please? T-to the bonfire.” Willow briskly asked. Tara giggled softly as she nodded her head again. “Great!” Willow exclaimed. “Great.” She said again trying to hide her delighted emotions, but it didn’t work. Tara grinned, she loved giddy Willow. “I’ll see you later then.” Willow said as she backed away.

Tara sadly smiled as her eyes lowered to the ground. Before she realized it Willow’s hands were quickly and gently holding her face up again and her lips were pressing against hers. Willow was kissing her. Tara hardly had anytime to process everything before Willow kissed her one last time before pulling back. “Bye.” she smiled at Tara as she walked backwards and out the barn.

Tara was too dazed to reply, all she could do was smile.

***************

There was only a half-hour left to the bonfire and Tara still hadn’t arrived. Willow was beginning to get restless. Her whole afternoon went by so slowly knowing that later that evening she would be able to stare into those eyes again and maybe even kiss her once more. Not only could she still feel the touch of Tara’s lips on her own but the tingle in her belly hadn’t ceased yet. Still, Tara hadn’t arrived and it was nearing the midnight hour.

“What time is it?” She asked Buffy as her eyes scanned the group of counselors and staff gathered around the bonfire.

“Not even a minute since the last time you asked.” Buffy answered.

All of a sudden, Willow felt it. She knew Tara was around and looked for her in their surroundings. She found her standing near the clearing of the bonfire area talking with Oz. She was smiling at something he was saying. Her eyes darted to Willow connecting with hers for a second before she looked back at Oz.

“Were is Riley with the marshmallows?” Buffy huffed.

“Uh huh.” Willow replied as she kept staring over at Tara and Oz. Why did she always see them together?

Buffy noticed Willow was not paying her any mind and followed her gaze. “What are you staring at? Oh, Oz and Tara. Are we a wee bit jealous, laddie?” she asked trying to sound like a leprechaun. And, to be honest, it worked.

Willow finally pried her eyes away. “No.” she said trying to sound sincere and finished it off with a roll of her eyes.

Buffy didn’t want to get into a *listen to me* lecture mode but did none the less. She turned over to Willow and spoke, “Look, it’s ok to still have feelings for Oz… and stuff. I will always love Angel. And-”

“Hey.” Tara announced as she walked up to the two best friends.

Willow’s eyes connected with Tara’s as she stood up from the log she and Buffy were sitting on. “Hi.” She twitted out. Tara looked incredibly stunning by the firelight.

“I –I wont be able to stay long.” The blonde frowned a bit unsettled.

“Why not?” Willow asked, worried.

“I just c-cant.” Tara looked over to the fire for a split second.

Buffy was growing tired of being ignored. “Hi, Tara.” She finally said with one of her knowing smiles.

“Hi.” The blonde looked down at her and smiled shyly.

Buffy stood up and patted her behind to get the dirt off. “I’m going to go find marshmallows. Silly boyfriend is taking forever. What are they good for?” she kidded as she walked away.

Once Buffy left, Willow motioned for the two of them to sit down and they did. “Thanks for coming.” She said. It took all her strength to not reach out and cusp the other girl’s hands.

“Of course.” Tara looked over to her and smiled. The uneasiness of a few second ago had passed. “How is Jamie?” she asked sincerely.

“Her elbow is sprained but at least she can stay at camp.” Willow mentioned.

“I’m glad she’s ok.” Tara brightened up as she looked at Willow.

Willow wanted to reach out and hold her close. She wanted to hold her hand and play with her fingers. She wanted to-

“Is this what all you guys do every night?” Tara asked as she looked at the milieu. Some counselors were talking, other staff members were singing and playing guitars. Couples were snuggled up together roasting marshmallows or kissing and groping openly.

Willow nodded. “Pretty much. Lights out is a ten and the raids don’t usually start until after midnight so we’ve got about two hours to kill. Someone thought bonfires and marshmallows were a good idea about ten years ago since this is now tradition and all... How do you and Oz know each other? You two seem so chummy.” She asked trying not to sound too jealous.

The fire transfixed Tara’s gaze. “We met last year. He’s really cool.”

Willow was shocked by the disclosure. “Last year?! But you weren’t here last year. We’re you?” she asked bewildered by all this.

Tara grinned as she turned her face to Willow. “Yes.”

“But , I…”

“I got sick the first week and had to go home.” Tara explained.

Willow didn’t believe it. “No.”

This time Tara laughed out loud. “I’m not kidding. I got Mono.”

“For real?”

“Yes.”

Willow shook her head. “And to think you met Oz and not me.”

“Fate’s funny that way.” Tara mentioned as she gazed at the crackling fire once more.

Before Willow could respond to that statement Riley walked up and asked for Buffy’s whereabouts.

“Went off looking for marshmallows.” the redhead told him.

“I’ve got them right here! She’s so impatient sometimes.” He mumbled as he wandered off to find his girlfriend.

Willow looked at Tara again and opened her mouth to speak. Instead a rough voice came from behind them.

“Tara?!” Donnie asked as he wandered up to his sister. “What the hell are you doing here? If dad finds out-“

Tara quickly stood up and shook her head at her brother. “I w-was just leaving. I’m leaving.”

“Tara, what?” Willow stood up not knowing what was going on. All she knew was she’d never liked Donnie before and seeing the fright in Tara’s eyes made her hate him now.

“You better run home before he realizes you’re not there.” He looked over to Willow and recognized her. “Rosenberg. She who pretended to be allergic to hay last year just because she’s scared of itty bitty horses.” His guttural laugh curled the redhead’s fingers into a fist. “And you’re hanging out with my sister? She put a spell on you?” he asked her in a hushed tone.

“D-Donnie, shut up.” Tara finally stood up to him. She looked at Willow for a second and then back at her brother.

Donnie was a bit surprised to hear her talk to him like that. He chortled and shook his head. “Whatever. It’s your butt, not mine.” His eyes wandered behind Tara. “Hmm, marshmallows… See ya home later lil’ sis.” He said as he took off.

Willow noticed Tara’s eyes followed her brother, “Ugh, he’s such an ass!” Tara finally uttered as she shook her head and rolled her eyes. “You’re so lucky you don’t have any siblings.” She said as she looked back over to Willow. The blonde was still frowning but her features were softening again. Her eye connected with Willow’s questioning ones. “Willow… I-I should go.” She gently said.

“Go?!” Willow’s heart was breaking. “But you just got here. And tomorrow Saturday so I won’t see you until Monday... Tara, I don’t think I can wait that long.” Her voice was a bit despairing but she didn’t care. Willow knew she was being foolish but she didn’t want her to go. They didn’t have round robins on the weekends and the most of the staff was allowed to come and go as they pleased. And Willow believed that since Tara lived a few minutes away she’d probably not hang around the camp at all on the weekend. She wanted to see Tara again. She wanted to be with her, talk and laugh. She wanted to hold Tara close and protect her. She wanted to slap her silly brother for trying to intimidate Tara.

Tara smiled and thought for a moment. “Do you have a break tomorrow?” Willow nodded wondering what this meant. “Meet me at the Wilkins Cabin after lunch then.”

Willow’s eyes widened. She knew all about that abandoned cabin in the woods. “Wilkins? But, isn’t that haunted?”

Tara smirked. “No. My brother started that rumor years ago so he could take girls there and not be interrup- uh, I-I’m totally digging a hole for myself aren’t I?” she asked shaking her head in her hands. Willow finally grinned. “I didn’t mean it like that. I just meant we could meet there. I want to take you somewhere. Else.”

“Where?”

“You’ll find out tomorrow.” Tara coyly smiled as she turned to leave.

“Tara, wait!” Willow grabbed her hand. “Let me walk you home. Please.” She said even though she had no clue where exactly home was.

The blonde grinned as she squeezed her hand. “I have a car.”

“Let me walk you to your car then.” Willow amended her statement, longing in her eyes.

Tara smiled as she nodded. She couldn’t deny Willow anything when she looked at her like that.

***************

With the sound of the bonfire and its participants behind them, the two girls walked through the camp in silence not really needing to talk. They were in the presence of one another and that was satisfyingly enough.

The night was absolutely gorgeous, lots of stars could be seen in the sky, a gentle breeze cooled them and there were hardly any mosquitoes biting. The kiddy cabins were on the opposite side of the camp, and most of the staff was at the bonfire so Willow knew they were pretty much on their own.

As they walked Willow cuddled up further into Tara and wrapped her arm around the blondes’ waist, settling her head above her bosom. Tara didn’t know who had made the first move into the precious embrace but it didn’t matter, she treasured being this close to Willow even for the few minutes it took to walk to the parking lot.

As they neared the front of the camp, Tara lovingly kissed the redhead’s temple and whispered the redhead’s name softly. She looked over towards Tara as they stopped walking in front of a small, black pick up truck. Willow slowly drew up her right hand to caress the blonde’s cheek, touching her at a leisurely pace with her fingers, memorizing the curves as her fingertips trailed over her face. Once their eyes connected she instantly captured Tara’s lips in a kiss. “Don’t go yet.” She pleaded as she placed her hand over Tara’s heart. “Please.”

Tara didnt know what to say. She never wanted to leave Willows embrace but knew Donnie was right. If her father found out she had snuck out I have to go. But I will see you tomorrow. She kissed Willow.

This time it was more urgent, more passionate as tentative gentle pecks of lips on lips deepened as seconds continued. Mouths opened and tongues explored as hearts raced and breathing became an issue. Neither wanted to part, wanting to stretch out the few seconds they had left into infinity. Their bodies aching for more contact but knew it wouldnt come just yet.

Their feeling for one another simmered inside and made it harder to let go and say goodnight. Willows body burned and she knew Taras did too. A mouth captured a moan as a hand traveled down someones back. Fingers caressed jaw lines and others ran through soft hair.

Tara. Willow pressed her body up against the girl who more than openly welcomed her. Willow took a deep breath as her lips kissed Taras neck and collarbone. Missing the taste of Tara, her mouth returned to the blondes lips.

Time seemed to last forever but reluctantly Tara finally pulled herself away from Willows loving hands and looked as if she were about to cry. Her gaze lowered to the ground as her heart ached knowing that she had to leave.

Whats wrong? The redhead asked as her lips continued to kiss over the side of Taras face, her hands moving up to cup it.

I have to go. Tara mentioned softly as kissed Willow once more, her voice hushed by her unearthed emotions.

Ill see you tomorrow. The redhead said in between the captures of Taras lips with her own. Promise me.

I promise. The blonde said under her breath as she kissed Willows lips again. I promise.

Willow nibbled on the blondes lower lips one last time. She looked into her eyes and smiled. Ill see you tomorrow.

Tara quickly kissed the redhead one more time and let go. As she opened her car door both giggled in the moment and Willow kissed her again before letting Tara sit down and turn on her car. Drive safely. She added.

I will. The blonde smiled. Tara gently shut the door and pressed her lips against the car window, leaving an imprint of her puckered mouth on it. Willow lovingly traced it with her fingers and kissed it from her side of the glass.

Bye. Willow called out smiling broadly as she half waved at Tara.

Shes done it again, Tara thought to herself as she waved back. Willow was so adorable.

***************

Willow sadly returned to the bonfire area only to find it shriveling. None of the staff was around anymore and she began to get a bit panicky. Where is everyone? she wondered as she scanned the field. In Sunnydale, creepily uninhabited areas meant badness was afoot.

Willow?! Buffy called out as soon as she saw her, giving the redhead a little heart attack. She giggled softly at the sight of Willow jumping in place and her little eek! shouted into the night air. Where have you been? Wheres Tara? she asked as she walked up to her.

It took Willow a few seconds of calming down her heavy breathing to say, Home Where is everybody? She voiced a bit confused about the desolate field.

Everybody is sleeping. Its been over an hour since you two disappeared. Ive been looking all over for you. I even went to the barn.

What? I just walked her to her car.

For over an hour? Buffy knew the parking lot was in the front of the camp and no matter what it would not have taken an hour to walk over there and back.

An hour? Willow asked in wonderment. Shed been kissing Tara over an hour? Willow blushed at the thought.

Were you abducted by aliens? Buffy quipped as she crossed her arms over her chest.

What? No, Buffy. Willow chuckled. She and Buffy were die-hard The X-Files fans, never allowing anything or anyone to interrupt them while watching the show. Well, unless it was the end of the world or something and they taped it. I guess we lost track of time. The redhead admitted.

Right. Buffy nodded. Im sure youve got some government microchip in your nose now. She said referring to the past situation of one of the main characters of the show as she wrapped her arm over her best friends shoulder.

It was in the back of her neck, Buff. Willow said as they began to walk towards their cabin.

The two strolled through the campgrounds in silence until Buffy spoke up, Are you ok? she asked concerned.

Yeah, why? Willow didnt understand where that question came from.

Its just lately youve been not distant but Youre, like, occupied by something. I just want to know.

Im fine. Willow replied, her head spinning with thoughts of Tara.

Its just- I know you and Tara are becoming good friends and all but- I just wanted you to know that Im still here for you. Youre my best friend and I love you. Suddenly Buffys spidery senses overwhelmed her. Willow, stop. She said she held her friend behind her and scanned their surroundings. They were near the kitchen and mess hall now but Buffys feelings didnt register simple human kids raiding for food. It was something else.

What?! Willow grew worried. She felt she was back in Sunnydale patrolling again with Buffy and her heart began to beat rapidly. Except for Buffy she didnt have any weapons.

Shhh Buffy stepped forward. Theres something out there. She voiced as she looked over to the group of trees and shrubs behind the dining hall. Her Slayer eyes tried to focus as her hearing honed in on the sound of movement.

The redhead shook her head vehemently. No, were on vacation! Willow whispered to her. There cant be any demons here.

Buffy didnt reply to that. Ill be right back. She said as she stepped forward.

Willow quickly reached out and held her back. You are not going alone.

Will, you dont have any weapons. Buffy answered her knowing no matter what Willow would always back her up.

I know. Willow looked down to the ground and grabbed a rock the size of her fist near her tennis shoes. I have one now. She half smiled nervously at Buffy.

Buffy sighed at her best friend. She loved her so much. Come on then. She smiled.

As they snuck up silently and neared the back of the kitchen they heard a couple of low growls coming from the bushes.

Oh god what is that? Willow whispered as flashes of all the demons shed encountered during the last four years ran though her mind.

Looks like something is hungry. Buffy said as her sense of smell registered the scent of that evenings dinner. She realized they were nearing the garbage cans and it was probably some wild animal raiding the trash rather than some demon. Although, she could think of a few demons that actually hung out in dumpsites back home.

Id rather they be fasting. Fasting is good. Willow tightened her grip around the rock.

Buffy relaxed as she chuckled lightly. Its probably a coyote. Or a bear. She mentioned as she turned around to Willow. She realized that last thought was not a very pleasant one. Last time she fought a bear was certainly not a fond memory.

No, its not. Willow warbled as soon as Buffy turned to her, a look of pure horror spread across her face. DEMON! she shouted as she pointed at it with her rockless hand.

Buffy had no time to react as a large, scabrous demon emerged from the bushes and whacked the Slayer from behind. His power sent Buffy flying, falling a few feet from Willow who watched her crash on the ground in pain. Willow could do nothing more than throw the rock at the demon with all her force hoping Buffy would recover fast.

The rock never connected with the demon though. It hardly even reached it. I should have paid more attention during archery, she scolded herself as the demon looked at her puzzled. She was such a tiny thing compared its massive size. Its eyes were red and its mouth all distorted with a couple of teeth protruding the demons lips. Willows heart sank as she thought of all the ways they could rip her into shreds.

Before she was able to process another thought she felt Buffys arms encircle her as she threw herself on the redhead. They fell sideways to the ground as Buffy high kicked the demon back in mid air. The Slayer landed on top of Willow.

Buffy looked over her friend to make sure she was all right and noticed something on her neck, Is that a hickey? she asked wide eyed.

What?! No! Buffy, this is serious. Demons! Willow motioned with her head to the demon heading towards the girls again.

As Buffy jumped off the redhead and headed towards the demon ready for the fight, Willow quickly reached up to touch her neck. She rolled her eyes once she realized she wouldnt be able to feel the hickey. Rock, I need another rock, she thought as she stood up and looked at the ground around her.

Buffy was in the middle of her fight with the demon, both trying hard to out do the other. Her usual quips in between punches were silenced as she tried to figure out a way to beat this thing. It was too strong.

Willow grabbed another rock from the ground and waited for a clear shot. It never came. Buffy and the demon were too close to each other for her. She was afraid shed hit Buffy instead of the demon and that would not be very cool. She tried to think of spells she could use but couldnt remember any that didnt end up with a fire, and accidentally burning Buffy was not good either. She hated feeling so useless and powerless.

Buffy thought she was finally getting the upper hand in the scuffle as the demon punched her with a right hook that sent her to the ground. He stood over her and suddenly disappeared from her line of sight. It had been knocked to the ground after a rock connected with the side of its face.

Buffy looked over to see Willow beaming. Thanks, Will.

Sure, it was nothing. She said nonchalantly even though she was bursting with pride inside.

Buffy quickly stood up and waited for the demon to rise. But it never did. It wasnt even moving.

Whats wrong? Willow asked.

I think you killed it. Buffy said as she tapped the demon with her feet, still alert that this all might be just a ploy. She studied it a few seconds more and reached over to snap its neck just in case. Its deader. She announced.

Do you think it had a heart attack? Willow wondered aloud as she neared them.

Maybe. I dont know. Buffy scratched her head. Maybe you David-ed it. Willows puzzled look let Buffy know she didnt understand what she was saying. David and Goliath? The rock

Oh. Willow nodded. Except Im a girl and all. Buffy nodded. Should we bury it? It wont go all poof like vampires, will it?

No. But memorize its features so we can research it later. Buffy mentioned as she grabbed one the demons arms and began to pull it towards the trees.

Willow helped her drag the demon. Why me?

Cause youre the one with the photogenic memory.

Photographic. Willow corrected.

Thats what I said. Buffy answered back with a roll of her eyes and a smile on her face.

***************

The next morning held an impromptu Scooby meeting after breakfast to talk about the happenings of the night before. It was decided that Willow and Oz would research, Buffy and Riley would patrol that night, and Xander would supply the Scooby snacks since he was so well connected working in the kitchen and all.

The rest of the morning Willow spent with some of her campers at the pool while Buffy accompanied the others to dance class. Willow didnt know how to dance very well and was very self-conscious about that fact. She usually just jumped in place, moved her arms around and nervously smiled a lot. She loved dancing but never had the full body flow like Buffy or Faith.

To tell the truth she sometimes enjoyed watching people dance and have fun more than participating in the activity. She liked watching people, period. Maybe it was the geeky, scientist in her that enjoyed observation. After all that was the first step in the scientific method and Willow was very methodical.

And now Willow had been waiting by the creepy Wilkins cabin for five minutes taking in her surroundings. Even though Tara had told her the ghost story was bogus she still felt a bit queasy after her demon encounter last night. She gathered up all her courage to look inside through one of the broken and cobweb filled window to see that it really just contained old, thrown out camp equipment and some furniture. She saw a couple of old beds in the small room and though about what Tara had said with regards to Donnie.

Poor girls, Willow thought. Donnie was ruggedly handsome but his personality sucked in her humble opinion. How in the world could sweet, wonderful Tara be related to him?

She checked her watch again and sighed. Seven minutes. She knew Tara would never stand her up. Shed half expected her to be there waiting for her but

Oh god. What if Tara thought Willow was a terrible kisser and didnt want to see her again? What if Tara felt horrible about last night and now she hater her? Willow couldnt live with the thought of Tara hating her or not being able to pleasure her properly. But that was her first time kissing another girl, she rationalized. How would she know all the tricks? Were there tricks? Shed kissed Oz and Xander before but Tara was different. She was soft and sweet and

A part of her thought that last night had been totally instinctual, something deep within her had taken over and she grinned knowing the experience had certainly not been displeasing. Shed loved it. If only shed get the chance to do it again.

Penny for your thoughts. Tara suggested as she walked up to Willow.

Willow turned around a bit startled by the newcomer. Itll be a lot more than a penny thats for sure.

Always so pensive in there, huh? Tara smiled as she stood in front of Willow holding a mid sized basket in her hands.

Hi. Willow said as she nervously leaned over and pop kissed Tara on the lips.

Hey. The blonde beamed back. She reached over with one of her hands and pulled Willow close. Tara looked deep into her eyes and they kissed again, a real kiss this time. You ready?

Willow exhaled happily. Yes, this place gives me the oogly mooglies

Tara looked at Willow and the redhead noticed she was a bit hurt as she backed away from her. I told you thats a lie. She said tenderly trying to make Willow believe her.

No, Willow pulled her close again. I believe you. Im still Ok, Im not nervous about the cabin. Its daytime, who ever heard of a ghost running around in the day anyway. Unless its a Scooby Doo cartoon but then thats not a real ghost anyhow, right? Anyway, Im nervous because I havent stopped thinking about last night for a second and I thought you were standing me up. That you didnt want to see me ever again and Willow looked to Tara for answers.

Really, huh?

What? that reply wasnt what Willow had expected.

And here I was the one giving you time to run away if you wanted to.

The reality hit Willow, You came late on purpose? she asked, stunned.

Tara lowered her head. Im sorry. I

No, Tara, I just found you. Im not going anywhere. She said cupping the blondes face and lifting it up. The second their eyes met, Willow kissed her again. And you better not go anywhere because I like you a lot. Too much, and it hurts when Im not with you. And after last night God. Ive never felt that way and Ive certainly never done anything like that before... It was incredible. Willow sighed. All this feels like a dream and Im afraid youre not real. That this isnt real though I feel it all over me I still feel you. She blushed as the passion of last night rushed through her body again.

Tara understood her completely. Me too. I just... I cant say it in so many words. B-but I know exactly what you mean.

Willow smiled lightly and asked, So, then, were ok? she tried to not let her anxiety leak out.

Tara softly grinned and replied, Were more than ok, Willow.

Willow quickly squeaked in glee as her arms reached out to embrace Tara.

Is that what you were thinking about? The blonde asked her as she kissed Willows forehead.

Yes.

Taras face moved to peck her sweet lips. No more doubts, ok?

Willow kissed her again. Ok.

***************

Walking further into the unknown woods panicked Willow for a second but she knew she was with Tara, she knew she was safe. This was Taras backyard so to speak. She lived in the area, these woods were hers, though not officially hers. Or were they? Willow thought about asking if they were on private property, but she didnt want to spoil this moment just yet. Holding on to Taras hand and walking besides her was the most perfect moment shed had in a long time, well besides last night without a doubt, and without the demon.

As they walked silently for about two minutes Willow experienced Tara lovingly squeeze her hand and ask, How long have you been practicing magick?

Willow was a bit shocked about the questions topic. They hadnt talked about magic since that day at the stable almost a week ago. Willow wondered exactly how to answer her without sounding like an amateur but couldnt help it. Well, Ive been setting my blanket on fire and freezing my plants for a year now. I cant seem to get past the hump.

Hump?

Bigger, better. Actually getting the spells right. Willow spoke as she looked to the ground not wanting to trip over anything. Now would not be a good time to twist her ankle. But then again maybe Tara would rescue her before falling down and-

That should be your first priority, not the other stuff. Tara said as she scoped around the forest searching for the quickest route to where they were headed.

I know, Im just very impatient.

Ive noticed, Tara giggled as she turned to her.

Hey! Willow stole a honeyed kiss from Taras lips. Im patient for some things.

Like what? the blonde eyed her.

Im I guess Im not, huh? Willow giggled.

Not from what I know. Tara laughed as she began to walk again.

It was meant as a joke but the reality of Taras statement brought Willow out of her Tara laugh reverie. She had only known the blonde a week and already shed fallen head over heels in love with her. They were quickly getting to know each other but Willow realized there was so much more to Tara that she still needed to learn and vice versa. But no matter what, she felt very strongly about the other girl already.

Even with Oz it had started out as a ploy to get Xander jealous but with Tara It was unforced. It felt sincere. And not that she hadnt loved Oz with all her heart, she had, shed grown to love him and it broke her heart when he broke up with her, but there were so many questions she always had that went unanswered. With Tara it was different, the answers were slowly drawing near.

Willow quietly followed Tara and reached over with her free hand to hold onto Taras forearm. The blondes fingers were enlaced with her own and Willow could feel energy slowly crossing between the two. She looked down to the sight of their hands clasped and smiled, it was magical.

Tara stopped all of a sudden and Willow noticed they were now standing in front of a clearing. Up ahead of them were two lone pine trees that stood parallel to each other. The redhead felt the magic everywhere. It rose in her body, wanting, craving, crackling.

Tara she whispered amazed by the power.

Can you feel it?

Willow nodded. Its so strong.

Come on. She said as she led Willow out into the meadow.

As they reached the two trees Willow couldnt help but stare in awe as she extended her free hand and touched one of the tree trunks. Oh my god. Its so strong. She repeated at a loss for words.

Tara smiled at her and then proceeded to open her basket and take out a large quilt. Willow helped her spread out the big colorful comforter on the ground in between the two trees.

You should have told me we were going to have a picnic. I wouldnt have had lunch.

The blonde grinned at Willow. Were not eating. Tara replied as she sat down and began to unload the contents of the basket. Sit?

Ok. Willow whispered as she noticed a narrow mouthed jar filled with what looked like salt, purple candles, stones she recognized as Amethyst, and a flask of oil were being taken out. Are we doing a spell? she asked innocently sitting on the ground little indian style.

A ritual. Tara smiled at her and proceeded to finish her task.

Willows eyes focused on Tara. She was so graceful, so lady like. Her arms and upper body moved with such elegance that Willow felt like a bumbling fool besides her. And she was simply just sitting there, watching.

I used to come here with my mother a lot. She was a witch. Tara mentioned after spreading out the ingredients and scanning the meadow around them. She was always so serious at home but as soon as she saw these trees, as soon as we sat down she had a smile that could light up the whole universe.

Willow daintily grinned, that was exactly how she would have described Taras smile.

Her laugh was so rare but when she laughed it came from within. Somewhere deep. Her whole body laughed. You know what I mean? Taras blue eyes finally connected with Willows green.

Willow simply nodded. She didnt know what to say. Where is she? the redhead managed to inquire. Deep down she knew the answer.

She, um, died two years ago. Tara looked down to the quilt and traced her fingers over one of the threaded sections.

Cancer? was the only thing Willow could think of.

No Lupus. Tara stared at her hands that were trembling softly.

Willow reached out to touch them, to hold them, Tara

But Tara gently pulled back. No, Im fine. She quickly sighed and said, Sorry for the downer. She smiled sadly as she ran her fingers through her hair.

No. Willow inched forward and cupped her hands, she caressed them in between her fingers. Tara, Im glad you told me... Im sorry about your mom. Willow was ready to cry seeing Tara so mournful.

Tara gently nodded her head as she gazed down at the quilt her mother had made many, many years ago. Thanks. She whispered. Tara realized just being in Willows presence slowly chased her old demons away. The redhead made her feel like her life was getting better every day and she smiled up at Willow letting her know how much she cherished her.

Willow immediately embraced Tara and held her close. Taras aroma enveloped her once again as she ran her fingers down Taras hair. Delicately, Tara began to kiss her neck as her hands fondly grazed Willows upper arms.

Oh my god! The blonde gasped as she backed her upper body away from Willow. Did I do that? She asked, stunned, as she stroked the small hickeys on the redheads throat. She thought they mysteriously looked a bit heart shaped.

Willow smiled as she blushed lightly. Yeah. She cupped Taras face with her right hand and softly caressed her cheek with her thumb. Arent they cute?

The rest of the gang had noticed the little marks during breakfast but Willow was quick to blame it on the demon attack and mosquitoes. Shed kept her hair loose during the day not to have any other people ask.

Tara grinned as she nuzzled into the redheads palm. She turned her head to kiss the inside of Willows hand. Youre cute. She said with a smile as she leaned over to kiss Willows lips. How long is your break today? She asked as her lips brushed the tip of Willows nose.

Two hours. She breathlessly replied as she kissed Taras jaw line.

Tara gently persuaded Willow down on the quilt, Plenty of time. She smiled as she leaned over to kiss her again.

***************

Willow watched Tara slowly swoop down and gingerly press her heavenly mouth on hers. Before long, hands were wandering over upper bodies as lips kissed different areas of two faces. Mouths migrated to other regions while hands got lost under shirts and fingers boldly curled over bras on certain erogenous buttons, caressing. The pressing of bodies became harder as nails lovingly scraped delicate skin and desirous tongues danced together parting only when shirts were tossed aside.

Short-winded and overwhelmed, Tara gently pushed herself away from Willow. Both aflame, they stared at each other; deep blue eyes fixed on dark green ones. Heavy breaths broke throughout the otherwise noiseless moment. Two of Taras fingers airily touched Willows forehead and slowly trailed south, down her nose, down her lips, down her chin, down her throat. Her hand stopped near Willows heart and rested her palm against the redheads chest as her eyes took in the body below her.

Willow felt it, she sensed Tara all over, inside. And it wasnt just Tara. She felt magic intensifying the moment as well. It was so strong, both of them. Her green eyes wandered down Taras face and shoulders noticing a light pink bra restrained her chest. She continued down towards her belly. Her gaze then casually lifted, deliberately absorbing all of the curves of the blondes upper body. The redhead determinedly reached up and held Taras face carefully with her hands, slowly pulling her down towards her again.

There was so much Tara wanted to say, so much she wanted Willow to know. Willow, I

What? the redhead sighed peacefully as she trailed her fingers down Taras throat.

Her eyes hastily turned away towards the quilt beneath them. I Tara was afraid. Afraid of letting go too quickly, afraid of getting hurt. She was suddenly remorseful. Shed been the one to lead Willow on, shed brought her here, shed urged her onto the quilt, shed-

Hey. Willow grinned tenderly, aware of Taras concern. It was clearly etched on her beloveds face. Shhh She gently pulled Taras face back towards her and lovingly rubbed their noses together. We can go slow. If thats what you want.

The worry in Taras face successively faded as she nodded daintily. Im sorry.

For what? Willow sat up and cupped Taras hands. Tara, Im not sorry. Im not sorry for meeting you or wanting to be with you. Willows hands played with Taras fingers as she thought of the proper way to say what she wanted to say. I want this I want you.

It took Tara a few seconds to be able to respond to those words. How do you do that? she asked her voice vibrating with various emotions.

What? the redhead asked, curious.

Make me feel so special.

Willow smiled. The same way you do it.

***************

Willow was running as fast as her legs could carry her. Stick to the path lined with the gray stones. Tara reminded her before she hurriedly left the meadow. They had taken a short cut to get there earlier but now that Willow was late there was no time to explain how to get back though that route. Taras instructions would take her the long way back to Camp Flutie.

Running through the forest all Willow could think about was Tara. She had felt so peaceful in Taras presence, so loved. The short ritual they eventually performed had improved her spiritual understanding of witchcraft and Wicca, and knew that practicing magic with Tara was something she wanted to do forever if she could. Willow had never actually taken the time to understand the reason behind certain components of spellweaving but Taras Wiccan upbringing enforced the codes of conduct Willow had glossed over in her study. The blonde explained every single detail of the ceremony and was extremely patient with her replies whenever Willow questioned a step, just like she had done in the barn.

The redhead reached a large, old oak tree and couldnt remember whether she needed to go left or right. She was so absorbed kissing Tara goodbye and cursing the fact she had to leave that she didnt really pay attention to the directions the blonde murmured quietly in between rapturous kisses.

Oh god! Left or right? Willow questioned out loud. I feel like Alice in Wonderland she thought, and all I need is the Cheshire cat to All her thoughts deviated to a little orb of blue light that was quickly dancing towards her. What the she began to ask in astonishment but somehow she knew just what it was. Tara? She whispered.

The tiny light promptly reached her and lovingly grazed her face. Willow followed it with her eyes as it curved off to the left and began to head down that path.

Willow smiled and followed. Thanks, baby.

***************

The instant Willow reached the camp she knew shed be in trouble for being tardy to the staff meeting. Crossing through the grounds, passing the touch football game in the open field and various activity shacks filled with campers, she thought about how shed never been late to anything in her life. Never. She was always five minutes early. Ten sometimes. And now she was late again. Time spent with Tara warped time on earth. Why couldnt real time slow down as it did when with the blonde?

As she ran up the steps to the assembly hall Willow could hear Harmonys voice loud and clear. Any questions so far? she had just asked enthusiastically as if addressing a group of children.

Willow tried to make a quiet entrance but failed miserably. The old door creaked and shut behind her quite loudly once she stepped inside. The gathered group of counselors quickly turned their heads over to Willow and stared.

Willow felt a powerful blush coming on. Hi? she meekly voiced as she looked over the room for an empty chair. Luckily, Buffy had saved a seat next to her and waved her over.

As Willow walked across Harmony rolled her eyes and handed her a packet of stapled papers. Willow, finally, heres your role. she said with the type of annoyed tone she normally regarded the redhead with.

Role? Willow asked her eyes widening in fear.

Duh, for the production.

Theres a production? Willows heart stopped. This was all she needed. She had terrible stage fright; it even haunted her in her dreams.

Yah. God, you make it sound like youve never been to camp before. We always have a play at the end of the session.

Play? She still couldnt grasp the fact Harmony had just given her a part in a play. She hadnt even auditioned for it. She *never* would have auditioned for it.

Hello? Do you have amnesia or something? Harmony looked at her queerly. Some counselors chuckled at the comment.

Its not Death of a Salesman is it? Willow questioned evoking an unpleasant memory of one of her frightful thespian dreams. Or Madam Butterfly? she asked recalling another.

Harmony fabricated a faux laugh. Why dont you just sit down and Just sit down. She turned to the rest of the group. So she continued to address those gathered.

Willow quickly sat besides Buffy and with her eyes wordlessly asked her what was going on. Buffy grinned and patted her knee, Were stage hands. Dont worry.

As relief spread over her face, Willow sighed. Thank the lords.

Whereve you been? Buffy whispered. Flutie was here and I think he noticed you werent. Why do you smell like sage? she asked candidly.

Um, excuse me, Buffy. Willow. Harmony interrupted their quiet conversation. Im the one talking here right now, ok? Pay attention to me.

Both Willow and Buffy huffed and rolled their eyes at the same time.

***************

Harmony had gone on and one about how she wanted this years play to be professional and that she didnt want anyone taking their roles lightly. They would have auditions on Monday and rehearsals after lunch, three times a week. Miss Post brought up a couple of other topics to discuss as well. Apparently one cabin had raided another one and stolen all their underwear a few days ago and still hadn't returned the garments, a group of kids were caught smoking pot behind the infirmary, and someone had stolen Fluties pot bellied pig from his hut. It was starting to feel like last summer all over again.

After the staff conference, Buffy and Willow headed over to the other side of the camp to pick up their campers. Buffy had dropped them off with the music instructor once she realized Willow was going to be late to the meeting. Willow was never late and it worried Buffy a bit but she knew Willow could take care of herself. She sure proved it to her last night. And besides, what demon ventured out during the day?

As the two girls crossed the camp, Buffy asked, So, off handling your herbs again? Did you get all trance-y and lose track of time? she chuckled thinking how absurd that sounded. Willow smoking anything was a laugh. Could you even smoke sage like that? she wondered.

Willow was gently biting one of her nails with a small grin on her lips, lost in other thoughts and didnt reply.

Hello? Earth to Willow Rosenberg. Come in, Rosenberg. Buffy spoke after staring at Willow for a second.

Huh? Willow was snatched away from her pensive state. What?

Where were you? What happened?

Willow was a bit hesitant to reply. It wasnt only because she had been with Tara, its just she knew that since after accidentally torching Buffys favorite sweater one night last year, Buffy didnt like her dabbling in the witchy arts without proper training. So, she lied, Oh, you know how I get when Im doing research. Willow was a terrible liar yet somehow she pulled this one off.

With Tara?

Willows heart skipped a beat. Maybe she hadnt pulled it off as smoothly as she thought. Um, yeah. Howd you know? she nervously asked as her thoughts wandered to Tara. Willow could still feel Taras lips on hers and her own thin fingers smoothly traveling over her shoulders blades, down the blondes back. She could still hear Tara giggling in her ear.

Slayer nose. You smell like vanilla. Buffy registered Willows look of longing. You ok? she asked her a bit baffled by her friends expression.

Yeah, fine. Willow sighed. There was so much she wanted to tell her best friend but couldnt find the words. She was scared of what shed say, of what shed think of her, of what shed think of Tara.

Will- Buffy began to speak but was interrupted when a soccer ball hit the ground just in front of their feet. With her Slayer reflexes Buffy quickly snatched it up before it bounced elsewhere.

Riley hastily ran up to them smiling widely at Buffy, Eyes open, ladies. You never know when a ball will cross your path.

Yeah, we dont want to get knocked out or something. Buffy grinned as she kissed her boyfriend. Were off to get our kids.

Riley chuckled. Are you sure theyre ours? I dont recall- Buffy playfully tapped his arm. But her Slayer strength unfortunately still packed a punch. Ow.

Aw, baby. Im sorry. Buffy stroked his arm in a soothing gesture.

Willow was getting restless. Im going to go ahead. Ill see you there, Buff. she said as she bound for the music room.

***************

Later that night, no matter how hard she tried to pay attention to her task at hand, Willows thoughts roamed back to Tara and their afternoon together. Her cherry lips, her azure eyes, her gentle hands, and satiny skin. Coming down from the magic high of the little ritual, Willow had held on to Tara and snuggled. She thought about how she cherished caressing all the generous curves of the girls body, slowly memorizing each womanly curvature with her hands, even over fabric. And the way Tara said her name with every touch, how she reverently whispered it in her ear.

Willow Willow? Oz voiced again.

Willows musings were abruptly interrupted and she quickly realized it was Ozs voice. She was in Ozs hut, the one he shared with Devon. His laptop was perched on her knees and a private website on demonology shed hacked into was up on the computer screen. She noticed the table in front of her was littered with books on demons theyd brought from home just in case they needed to research. Thats what she was doing, she was researching. Or had been until she began to fantasize about the blonde witch.

You ok? He asked looking at her peculiarly.

Uh Willow was so flustered she couldnt think of what to say to him. Had she said anything out loud? Was she drooling? I-Im fine. Did you find something? She questioned trying to get back into research mode.

No. he smiled. Its just you went all trance-y there for a few minutes and
I didnt know whether to interrupt you or not.

A few minutes? Did I say anything? she asked as she bit her lower lip.

Oz chuckled and shook his head. No, just a couple of sighs here and there.

I sighed? Willows eyes widened. What kind of sighs?! No, you know what, dont tell me. I dont want to know. Lets just get back to business. She looked down to the laptop. Demons. Yay. She began to read a paragraph at random and grimaced. Yuck. They dont have to be that descriptive.

Oz sat the book hed been reading down on the table and grabbed another one. Theres nothing in this one. Besides Buffys yucky, yucky and wicked strong description can you remember anything else about the demon? A marking maybe? Oz asked reclined in his chair.

The redhead shook her head. No... It was just yucky, yucky and wicked strong.

Oz nodded. Ill be sure to tell Giles to initiate a whole subdivision for yucky, yucky and wicked strong demon categories.

Oz. Willow groaned as she looked over to him. He never took anything seriously. He was always so controlled, so calm. Once in a while hed burst out with a funny wisecrack but usually he was just quiet.

Sorry. He smiled as he proceeded to scan the book in front of him.

Willow watched him read. She remembered how shed run her fingers through his short hair and how his five oclock shadow would sometimes scratch her chin when they kissed. How she was so proud to be dating a guy in a band and how he always protected her whenever they patrolled with Buffy. He had been so loving and sweet, and patient.

She couldnt believe she had been totally in love with him a year ago and now she felt nothing for him in her heart like that. She still loved him, always would, but her heart now belong to another. She never imagined she could ever fall in love so completely and so hard all over again, and certainly never thought it would have been with a woman.

Oz? Can I ask you something? Willow tentatively asked.

Of course. He answered never looking up from the book he was reading.

Its kinda personal. She quietly mentioned.

Oz looked up at her. What?

Willow could feel the blush rising. We went out for over a year before we You know. She looked down to her hands when she couldnt get the words out.

Made love? He grinned softly.

Yeah Willow said remembering their first time together. She had been so nervous, so scared but hed been nothing more than gentlemanly with her. And then four months later you broke up with me. Was I- Did I Suck? she thought.

Oz chuckled lightly. I know what youre thinking and no. You werent ready before. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. But then, after that, I realized I wasnt what you really needed. His features held no ill will, his lips were still curled.

Willow didnt understand. But you still We still-

Oz, my man! Devon entered their hut interrupting the ex-lovers conversation. Although he noticed Willows ticked off eyes and Ozs restrained look he plopped on his disheveled bed and asked, Whats going on?

Willow quickly stood up and placed the laptop on the table, she gathered her things to leave.

Willow, wait. Oz stood up besides her.

No, I gotta go. She said dejectedly as she began to walk away.

Oz reached out and held her back. Let me walk you to your cabin. Ok? Please?

Willow knew Riley and Buffy were patrolling and she didnt want to risk running into another demon all alone. She slowly acquiesced to his request and they headed out together.

***************

Neither one said a word during their walk across the camp towards Willows cabin. There was nothing to say. Oz was used to silence but never with Willow. He knew things were changing. He knew something was happening. He just wished hed be able to control his emotions even though he knew he couldnt. Not when it came to Willow. He was still in love with her but he had to let her go. He knew that much.

The night sky was illuminated by a half moon and as they neared cabin 7 Willow noticed a small figure shadowed on the steps. The body was curled forward as if it were crying.

Jamie? Willow asked as soon as she neared the cabin.

The thin girl quickly sat up and wiped her tears away. Hey.

Honey, whats wrong? Willow asked as she quickly sat besides her and pulled her into a hug, mindful of the sprained elbow.

Oz nodded realizing this was a girly moment that probably shouldnt include him. I guess Ill See ya later, Willow. He half waved before shoving his hand in his jackets pockets.

Bye, Oz. Thanks. She smiled softly.

Sure. He replied and headed back down to his side of the camp.

Willow turned her attention to Jamie. Did something happen?

No. Jamie sniffled and wiped her nose with her good hand.

Liar. Willow chuckled.

I want to go home. Jamies voice trembled.

Is it your arm? Willow asked wondering what could make her want to leave.

No. I dont fit in here, Willow. I dont like not fitting in. It sucks. They make fun of my glasses and clothes, and now they make fun of this stupid sling I have to wear because I was silly enough to fall off a chair.

Willow knew exactly how Jamie felt. Can I tell you a story?

Jamie rolled her eyes and smirked. Is it one of your never ending ones? Ive heard you and Buffy talk at night. You babble a lot, you know that?

Willow was shocked dumb by Jamies straightforwardness but pretty soon she felt a ripple of laughter building inside her. Her whole body started to shake as she began to laugh. She hadnt laughed this hard in a long while, and began to turn red as her breathing became obstructed by her laughter spasms. Diminutive tears began to fall down her face.

Jamie stared at her, perplexed by Willows reaction. Geez, it wasnt *that* funny.

Oh my god. Willow was able to pant in between laughs. If only Jamie knew the emotional roller coaster shed been on the last couple of days and how this was a much needed break. That was hilarious. She said as Jamie smiled lightly even though she shook her head at the same time. Willow controlled herself and sighed. She reached over for Jamies hand and stood up. Come on, sweetie. Lets have us some chocolate.

As they stepped away from the steps into the cabin, Jamie stared Willow down, I knew you guys wouldnt throw out the candy you took from us.

Four hours later Buffy was still gone, and Willow hadnt been able to fall asleep yet. It wasnt that Buffys comforting presence was not there. She was used to being alone in their shared dorm room at night, Buffy frequently staying over at Rileys. And, after all, she did have six campers quietly snorting and snoring in the cabin. It wasnt the demon that they had run into last night either. That was just another night for her in Sunnydale, shed sadly gotten used to things like that happening.

She had tried counting backwards by three, she tried breathing techniques Buffy used to focus when training, she even mentally told herself a story about princess and fairies but her brain was on overdrive and crowded with thoughts. Multi layered thoughts about Tara.

She was carefully thinking about her feelings for Tara from every angle. She used her scientific method, she pondered her mothers academic feminist discourse, she though about what her friends would think, what society would think, but most of all she listened to her heart.

Her heart kept telling her it was ok, that she was ok. She was normal, a bit on the geeky side, but normal. Plus, shed had feelings like these before, never thinking them wrong or bad while growing up. It was something she thought every girl went through. Shed have short-lived crushes on boys and girls and, even though never directed specifically at her, some of her mothers lectures on hormones and the growing sexual experimentation in teenagers made it seem like it was part of the ritual of adolescence. After all, youth were always confused about something.

Shed never acted on her feelings, not that she would have if she could. She had been so shy, so inexperienced, her sexual drive awakening at a leisurely pace. By the time she hit high school she was ready to pop, but was still reserved in her bookish ways. Her crush on Xander seemed like a form of escapism for her now. Something she knew was unattainable and therefore she didnt have to worry about being so innocent. She could not get hurt. But she had hurt. She had been very hurt when he began to crush on Buffy after her arrival in Sunnydale, shed been crushed when he began to secretly fool around with Cordelia, and shed been devastated when he slept with Faith. She felt he never really saw her, shed been his best friend since childhood and he didnt see her until it was too late.

And Oz. Sometimes, wanting to be liked and loved was something she craved. She thought she had been in love with Xander and wanted to hurt him like he hurt her. It all seemed so childish and selfish now. She knew Oz liked her from the moment they talked in the career fair at school. And even though he was completely aware that Willow was using him to get back at Xander, he stuck by her. He waited for her. Even when she had tried to seduce him with Barry White music and sexy outfits, he waited for her to be ready give herself completely to him. Even after she and Xander cheated with each other during a fluke and broke Ozs heart, he never abandoned her. He forgave her. And shed worked hard to get him back, to gain his trust again, but no wonder hed said that to her tonight, I realized I wasnt what you really needed.

But what did she need? What did she want? She wanted everything that Tara was slowly giving her. It wasnt just the growing friendship or the magick, Tara the person was something she needed and wanted. It scared her to be thinking this way about her after only knowing her over a week. But why should it? Shed read about love at first sight and knew the soul mate theory, but did she believe in them? The connection between her and Tara had been strong since the start, like old friends reuniting. Old souls reuniting for another chance.

Willows thoughts were interrupted as Buffy quietly entered the cabin. She quickly sat up on her bed and whispered, Anything demon-y?

Buffy looked tired, worn out. No. It was probably a hitchhiker. She said as she kicked off her shoes with her feet.

A hitchhiker?

Buffy yawned as she sat on the corner of Willows bed and contorted and stretched her upper body. We checked the busses and underneath the campers bus we found some yucky, yucky residue. Looks like it was trying to get out of Sunnydale. Silly demon What are you doing up?

Willow was wondering if shed ever had a crush on Buffy. Huh? Oh, couldnt sleep. She knew she found her attractive, Buffy was gorgeous. But she never felt attracted to her. Buffy was her best friend and she couldnt even begin to think of her that way. It gave her the chills.

Demon or Willow thoughts keeping you up? Buffy asked as she yawned again. Once she realized Willow wasnt really paying attention to her she voiced, Definitely Willow thoughts.

What? Willow asked, suddenly hearing the Slayers voice again.

Buffy chuckled as she stood up. Goodnight, Will.

Bye. Willow watched her head to the half bathroom in the back of the cabin. Interestingly enough, she was asleep before her head hit the pillow.

***************

A Taraless Sunday filled with outdoorsy cabin activities and a mini Scooby meeting to discuss the hitchhiking demon hypothesis dragged into Monday. With Monday came round robins and Tara. With Tara, a return to discreet looks and soft giggles between the two took place as the campers readied themselves for their horsie outing through the hills. Both girls tried purposefully to stop themselves from gazing at each other too long, from speaking without words, from reaching out and simply touching.

During the after lunch break Willow was forced to participate in the camper auditions and Tara sweetly surprised her by passing by the assembly hall and hanging out for a short time. How they would be able to produce the lively A Midsummer Nights Dream with inexperienced teenagers in five weeks was beyond the blonde.

Later that night, at the bonfire, Tara listened as the Scoobies swapped telling stories about themselves and life in Sunnydale, tales about high school hell and demons dominated. Contemplating the Scoobies interaction, Tara was getting to understand each one of them more than theyd ever know.

Sitting next to Willow, she ached for an innocent touch. It was agonizingly hard for Tara to not scoop up the redheads hand and entwine their fingers, pressing their palms together. She lovingly watched Willow make outrageous hand gestures or how her face would light up when excited as she told a particular part of a story. Shed observe the shadow of the fire flames flickering over her silhouette and how her red hair surrounded her sweet face when she laughed.

Along the same lines, Willow would over-exaggerate stretching her upper body once in a while just to have the simple second of her hand or arm brushing softly against Tara. Shed unceasingly pull her hair behind her right ear just to be able to turn her head towards Tara and see her sitting next to her. Shed do this every few minutes and smile.

Halfway through the bonfire Riley and Buffy decided to have a mini patrol over the campgrounds and Buffy was very fixed on walking Tara to her car. Although Tara revealed shed never seen any demons in the area, the blonde was more than happy to have a super hero for an escort. You know, just in case.

As the four of them took off towards the front of the camp, Riley and Buffy walked ahead of Tara and Willow. The two witches would steal precious silent mini kisses with sneakiness whenever they could. At one point Willow accidentally tripped over her own foot and Tara caught her mid air. The blondes swift reflexes and strength at surprised all of them and she just shyly smiled as her gaze turned to the ground. Willow sighed dreamily as she watched her blush under the moonlight.

Wanting desperately to kiss Tara goodnight Willow had to settle for a friendly hug once they reached her truck. She inhaled her vanilla scent one last time before pulling away. She knew she would be dreaming in vanilla again that night.

The next couple of days were filled with typical camp activities. Everything was good, everyone was happy and having fun. But, by mid morning on Thursday a torrential downpour began and all of the activities for the day were canceled until further notice.

Everyone wallowed in their cabins, especially Buffy and Willow. Growing restless they began to play card games like Uno and Go Fish with their campers but after an hour Willow decided shed had enough of the indoors. She needed to get out.

In a hurry, she stood up and grabbed her raincoat. Throwing it above her clothes Buffy asked what she was doing, and when shed replied she was going for a walk the Slayer looked at her like she was deranged.

Its raining. Buffy reminded her.

Yes, that is why I am wearing my poncho. Willow replied as she gathered up her umbrella and shoved a letter she that had written to Tara in her jean pocket.

Well, can I go out too? Jenn asked as she stood up from her bed.

No. Buffy told her camper. Its raining.

Well, why can Willow go out? she asked crossing her arms over her chest. Two other girls had stood up next to Jenn and waited for an answer.

Willows a counselor, youre a camper. Buffy spelled out. Besides, I dont want any of you getting pneumonia. She said trying to think of a good excuse.

Pneumonia is a virus. You cant catch a virus by being out in the rain. Jamie responded timidly as she too stood up with her cabin mates. Weevil grins slowly began to spread across all the campers faces.

Buffys eyes widened realizing there was soon to be mutiny in cabin 7 and looked over at Willow. Will? she asked expecting her best friend to back her up.

Willow smiled wryly, Sorry, Buff, but Jamies right.

As soon as they realized what that meant all six girls began to shriek and run towards the cabin door. Buffy held up her arms in exasperation as the girls ran out in to the rain and began to cavort merrily and jump on puddles, splashing each other.

Buffy glared at Willow who simply shrugged her shoulders and grinned. See ya later, Buffy.

Youre cleaning up all the mud in the cabin when you get back, missy! Buffy yelled at the redhead as she strolled out. The Slayer looked out the cabin window at her girls jollity. Oh, what the heck. she sighed as she too stepped out into the rain.

***************

Tara? Willow asked as she opened up the large sliding door to the stables. Once she entered and closed the door behind her, she proceeded to take off her raincoat. She threw aside the umbrella that had since been twisted inside out by the power of the winds outside. Even the metal bar was bent. She began to shiver slightly as her hair was drenched and so was her yellow Hello Kitty shirt.

Tara? she asked again as a bolt of lighting crashed and thunder rolled.

She could sense the horses were nervous, they were neighing and kicking the wooden walls. Shhh, horsies. Its ok. Its just a storm. She tired to comfort them as she tentatively walked further into the darkened barn. A really loud storm, with lightning and rain and Tara? Are you here? she asked a little louder this time. She was nervous too, the thunder was very loud and frightening.

Will? Came a muffled voice from the back. Come here, but be quiet. She heard Tara express.

Willow sighed in relief, delighted Tara was there. Ok, but where are you? she asked as she walked towards the rear.

In the back. She said in a hushed tone.

I know in the back, but where? Willow said, her voice a bit apprehensive. Its kinda dark.

From the shadows, Willow saw emerging from behind a back wall a small flickering flame. Once she saw Tara smiling at her Willow calmed down. Come here, I want to show you. Tara whispered aloud as she held on to an oil burning lamp with her right hand. In here. She motioned with her head.

Taras beautiful features, always accentuated by firelight, clouded Willows mind. She tried hard to remember how to walk. As soon as the redhead reached her, the blonde took her hand and led Willow into a hidden area besides one of the enclosures.

Uh, what are we doing? she quietly asked as she gazed at Tara a bit puzzled about the hush hush moment. She noticed Tara was not responding and instead was staring down at the corner of the area with worried look on her face. Willow followed her gaze. Bundled up in the corner, in a large nest made of hay, were four kittens quietly crying out and climbing over each other. Kittens! Willows heart ached at the tiny size of them. Oh, how cute! Lil kittens.

I wonder where their mommy is. Tara downheartedly said as she moved closer to the kittens, pulling Willow with her. She set the lamp down on the wooden crate that cornered them.

Maybe she got stuck in the rain. Willow suggested as she knelt down besides Tara.

A mother cat would never leave her kittens in such danger.

Willow sadly smiled. Tara was so sensitive sometimes it hurt. Well, maybe I dont know. Willow slowly looked over to Tara and lovingly kissed her cheek. How old do you think they are? she said inhaling Taras scent.

A day. They werent here yesterday. She noticed Willow was slowly reaching out to touch them with the free hand. She immediately grabbed it and pulled it towards her own chest, holding it against her. No, dont. If their mommy comes back and she smells you on them she wont take care of them. Willow looked over at Tara to ask why and noticed she was about to cry. Or is that birds? Willow? she pleadingly looked over at the redhead.

Seeing Tara so afflicted like this brought tears to her eyes. I dont know. She murmured. With her free hand she wiped a small tear rolling down Taras face. Its ok. Well take care of them. Well be their foster mommies if she doesnt come back. Not that Willow knew anything about taking care of kittens. The only pets shed ever had were fish.

Tara began to brighten up as Willows words and caring touch soothed her nerves. She took a deep breath and nodded softly as she exhaled and smiled. Willow quickly pulled her into a hug and held her close.

Youre cold. Tara stated as she clutched the shivering redhead.

A little. Willow admitted.

Your shirt is wet. She mentioned as she pulled back, her hands on the redheads small hips.

Sos my hair. Willow said as she softly caressed Taras face. Her cold fingers stroking warm skin.

You need to get warm. Tara closed her eyes in delight as Willows hands casually traveled within her blonde hair. She was gently kneading her head now, something Tara loved.

How? Willow breathlessly asked, frosty shivers running up and down her spine even though her heart was heated.

Tara slowly opened her eyes and smiled. Hold out your hand. She said even though she didnt want Willow to stop touching her. She never wanted Willow to stop touching her.

Willow wondered what she was going to do as she slowly retracted her right hand and held it out to Tara. She silently lowered her left hand and placed it on her thigh.

Tara held out her hand, palm to palm with Willow, and said, Repeat after me Calor humano.

Calor humano. Willow whispered the foreign yet familiar words. Human warmth, she translated to herself.

Tara slowly enlaced their fingers and pressed their hands together. Willow instantly she began to feel tingling in her toes that slowly worked its way up her legs. Her body grew warmer by the second. Tara was warming her. She looked at their clasped hands and then back to Tara. By now the warmthness was reaching her chest, her shoulders, her neck, her face.

Both sighed loudly as soon as the spell was over and lowered their hands. Tara nervously looked over at the kittens that were now sleeping soundly while Willow stared at her.

Tara? Willow spoke in an undertone. What was that? she asked as she looked at their hands again.

Just a little trick my mother taught me. Tara replied as a stroke of lightning created a massive roll of thunder that reverberated through the barn.

Startled by the loud noise, Willow jumped in place and screamed. Tara chuckled at the sight. Dont laugh at me. Willow pouted.

Tara gently shook her head. Youre too cute.

Willow smiled softly and ran her finger through her wet hair. Maybe I should take off my shirt before I get cold again. Wheres your blanket?
She asked knowing Tara kept a blanket and some pillows around.

As Tara stood up, Willow didnt let go of her hand and gently tugged her down. Tara leaned over to and Willow kissed her lips. Willow held the blondes face close with her hands and intensified their kiss by gently forcing Taras mouth open with her tongue and entered her.

The taste of Willow threatened Taras knees to buckle underneath her and she held on by the redheads shoulder. She could feel her body burning and her throat let out a sweet moan.

Willow quickly opened her eyes as Tara pulled back. Had she just made Tara moan like that? That had to have been the most erotic sound she had ever heard in her life. As she watched Tara blush, her green eyes hastily glanced south. Ooh, lovely Tara cleavage. She grinned.

Tara playfully held the neck of her blouse against her chest. Willow! she giggled as she kissed her once more.

***************

The blonde was leaning against one of the large wooden posts and had Willow nestled against her body, both wrapped cocoon like by one of Taras blankets. Her hands delicately caressed the uncovered Willowbelly as her shirt dried on one of the hooks against the wall. Her temple pressed lovingly against Willows cheek as her chin rested on Willows shoulder.

Molded into Tara, Willow could feel the girls heartbeat. She could feel her breasts gently nudging her as Tara breathed. She could tell Taras hands hungered for more as her fingers stroked her tummy, moving up and down softly but never wandering further down than her belly button.

I'm going to take the kittens to my father. Tara said as Willow wrapped the blanket around them tighter.

How come? Willow asked as she turned her head to look at Tara.

Hes a vet. The blonde answered as she looked off to the lamp. She noticed the oil was burning out. Do you have a day off? she asked unexpectedly as she looked over at Willow again.

Umm Monday. Willow replied trying to recall her schedule. Sunday night to Monday night. Whens yours?

Every weekend. Tara smiled.

Right. You dont have to deal with snotty, potty mouthed kids all the- Oh my god! Buffy! Willow exclaimed as she uncovered herself and stood up.

W-what?! Whats wrong? Tara asked disconcerted by Willows actions. The loss of Willows body against hers actually ached.

What time is it? Willow wondered aloud as she reached for her shirt. She stopped pulling it over her head suddenly and asked, When did it stop raining? How long have I been here? she quickly looked over to her watch and grimaced, Crap. It had been over two hours.

Tara nervously stood up, her blanket still hanging over her shoulders barely covering her exposed bra. I-I d-didnt- Im sorry.

Sorry? Tara, what for? Willow asked as she put on her shoes. She quickly walked up to Tara and held her lowered head in between her hands. Hey. She softly said as she lifted her gaze and connected their line of sight. She kissed Taras lips. Why do I always feel theres not enough time in the world to spend with you? she kissed her again.

Tara sadly smiled as she gently ran her fingers through Willows rumpled hair. Willow sweetly kissed the tips of her nose as she reached out and held Tara by her bared waist, her thumbs slowly rubbing her tummy. Come to karaoke tonight. She pleaded as she now kissed Taras jaw line. Please. Down the side of her neck the redheads lips traveled. At 8 in the assembly hall. She said as she placed a kiss right above Taras bra, over her heart.

Tara was so aroused by Willowlips she didnt think she had the ability to speak. I Ill try. Tara sighed, knowing she would probably not be able to make it. Ill try.

And it was extremely irresponsible of you to disappear like that, Miss Rosenberg. Assistant Camp Director Snyder finally finished his whole speech. Willow counted the length. 237 seconds since the moment he began.

Once she found Miss Post waiting for her on the steps of her cabin, Willow knew there had been trouble. And now she and Buffy were in the Assistant Directors office being reprimanded.

Buffy, full of mud all over her clothes, body and hair, rolled her eyes and looked at Willow. Her dear friend looked like she wanted to crawl in between the cracks of the floorboards and hide. Hello, the Slayer told the administrator, I was there. Nothing happened. Just a bunch of teenage girls having fun.

Fun? Miss Post was blushing as she fanned her face. Her uppity British accent reminded Buffy of Giles. You call that fun? It was practically a wet t-shirt contest. Willow quickly looked over at Buffy horrified. Buffy simply shrugged her shoulders and half smiled. And the mud fight. Dear Lord. Miss Post shook her head in disgrace. She looked over to Flutie.

Well, what do you have to say for yourself, Miss Rosenberg? Snyder asked her.

Willow squirmed in her chair. I, uh She felt her throat dry up and her face redden.

She was with me. Oz spoke from behind them as he entered the office. She was helping me set up the system wires for karaoke tonight. I, uh, got electrocuted and she stayed with me. I came here to tell you.

My goodness, Daniel, are you all right? Miss Post asked Oz.

Yes, Im fine. He replied.

Is this true? Snyder asked Willow. He knew Oz and Willow were an item last year at camp and didnt really believe him. He was sure theyd been off having a tryst somewhere. Plus, he was a musician and after all those guys were slackers. But Willow he would believe. She had always been a model camper, and she was the most mature of the bunch of hoodlums theyd hired this summer. He wasnt surprised Buffy Summers was one of the counselors in question but hed been very surprised to find out Miss Post was rambling on about Willow Rosenberg as well.

Yes, its true. Willow quietly lied. She looked over at Oz and thanked him with her eyes. He nodded sideways and sat down on one of the chairs near the entrance.

Well, then. Consider yourself warned, Willow. Next time something like this happen let us or one of your co-counselors know right away. And, Buffy, since you were actually there and did nothing to stop the shenanigans, you and your campers will have to work in the kitchen on your day off.

Willow instantly rose to defend her, But-

Buffy quickly sat her back down with a tug of her arm. Fine. She told Snyder as a smudge of mud remained on Willows forearm.

Willow looked over at Buffy shocked she would take the punishment so easily. Buffy She whispered at her. Buffy looked over at Willow, and Willow remained speechless. Buffy glower was not fun, especially when she looked like a cavegirl.

Good. Now go get cleaned up, Miss Summers. See you all at dinner. Mr. Snyder nodded.

As soon as they stepped outside of the office, Willow turned to look at Buffy. Why didnt you tell him it was my fault?

Buffy began to walk away peacefully, I guess I owe you for all the times you got me out of trouble.

Willow felt awful, she knew that couldnt be the reason. It *had* been her fault. Shed sided with the campers instead of Buffy. Shed lost track of time with Tara. She looked over at Oz who was standing next to her. Oz?

Wanna help me set up the wires? he asked her as he began to head to the assembly hall.

Sure. Willow replied.

***************

Willow spent most of the karaoke social watching the front door to the assembly hall. She helped Oz and Devon when it came time to re-wiring the mics or helping with the amps just like she had done when she and Oz dated. But as soon as she completed her task shed go back to pouting and bouts of staring at the entrance. Tara wasnt coming. Willow knew she had said she would try but it still hurt. Moreover, if she had to hear one more Britney Spear song or an NSYNC tune she was going to scream.

By ten oclock karaoke was over and all the counselors and campers had headed back to their cabins for lights out and the nightly bonfire. Devon had already gone ahead with some of the equipment, and with nothing else to do, Willow stayed behind to help Oz put away the rest.

She had spent the entire evening thinking about her golden goddess and yearned to see her again. Her body was growing frustrated knowing how sexually attracted both of them were to each other but yet both were being so reserved about it. The kissing part they were mastering, Willow absolutely loved the touch and feel of Taras lips and tongue. And Tara was a remarkable kisser. Delicate and shy, like she was taking her time to relish every single inch of Willows mouth.

For them to cuddle on even terms, it took Willow three minutes to coax Tara to take off her blouse that afternoon. She loved feeling T

For them to cuddle on even terms, it took Willow three minutes to coax Tara to take off her blouse that afternoon. She loved feeling Taras skin flattened against hers. It was silky and hairless with sensuous soft mounds that made her bite her lower lip whenever they pressed against her.

She found it funny how in the meadow both had been carefree about taking off their shirts. She guessed it was different when you actually thought about what it was you were about to do. Wrapped up in the others kiss shed gotten lost and all her brain function focused on one goal, and one goal only. To touch, to taste, to feel her. She didnt have time to think about if her breasts too small, or if her nose was too big, or if was she too skinny. All she wanted was to experience the sensation of kissing Tara.

Her thoughts were interrupted as Oz cleared his throat loudly, very loudly.

Huh? Willows mind returned to the present time.

Ozs head motioned behind Willow.

The redhead, sitting on one of the plastic chairs facing the stage, rounded off her upper body and saw her. Tara! she shouted as she ran across the room and hugged her tight. She was about to kiss the sweet lips she so desperately longed for when she realized Oz was in the room. She nervously cleared her throat as she stepped back, sticking her hands in her pockets. Hey. She said, trying to sound nonchalant about it.

Taras smile was heavenly. Hi. She blushed at Willow.

You came. the redhead voiced, dazed.

I tried to sneak out earlier but I-I couldnt. Tara mentioned as she gave her an apologetic smile.

Oz quickly jumped off from the stage, I, uh Im going to go. He said as he grabbed his jacket.

Go? Tara asked him. She could sense he was troubled and she didnt want to be the cause of his uneasiness.

Yeah, Im going to go practice with Devon. He said as he picked up his guitar case and some amps.

Working your way up to four chords, huh? Tara smiled trying to break the tension. She knew Oz was in a band and could only play three chords. Theyd had this conversation before.

He looked towards the two girls. Yeah, you know, real guitarists play way more than that. Oz grinned. He really appreciated Taras concern. She was always so thoughtful and caring, it sometimes pained him. In a hurry he looked over at Willow and said, See ya.

Bye. Willow pouted as she watched him walk away. She felt horrible. She began to mentally scold herself for being so apathetic towards Oz.

Tara noticed her furrowed brow and lightly stroked Willows forehead with her fingers, erasing the scrunch. Willow smiled sadly, appreciative of Taras gentleness as she wrapped her arms around Taras waist. The blonde slowly leaned over and kissed her forehead. Hey. She said as soon as their eyes connected. You ok?

No. Willow voiced, sounding more like a child than the eighteen year old she was. As she pulled Tara closer into her body, Willow began to trace circles over her lower back. I didnt think you were coming. She said, her tone of voice still the same.

Willow Tara whispered without reserve as she leaned into capture Willows lips with her mouth, closing the gap between them.

***************

Teach me the light spell. Willow brought up as the two girls headed towards the bonfire.

Light spell?

The little blue light that led me back to camp the other day. Willow smiled.

Oh, teeny Tinkerbell light. Tara grinned.

Yes.

The blonde nodded. Of course. But not here.

Willow made a long face. Why not?

Because magick is personal. You n-need quiet, a place to concentrate.

The redhead thought how whenever she was with Tara concentration on anything else was the hardest thing. Thats going to be difficult to do here at camp.

Tara took in a deep breath before she tentatively voiced, Y-you can come over if you w-want. On your day off. To my house. W-we can do stuff. S-spells. She let some strands of her hair fall over her face as she nervously looked away.

Willow abruptly stopped and turned to face Tara. Your house? she asked thunderstruck by the invitation.

Y-yes. Tara said as she looked back at Willow.

Willow gently drew the stay hair behind the blondes ear, For real? Youre, like, inviting me over to your house? she said with a glitter in her eyes. Like a sleepover? Tara nodded gingerly. Dont you work on Monday? Willow asked curiously.

Tara nodded, I could ask my cousin Beth if she wouldnt mind taking over for that day.

Willow vaguely remembered Beth from last year. Tall, skinny, she would hang out in the barn with Donnie. What about your dad and Donnie? Donnie doesnt like me. And I dont like him, she thought.

Tara smirked guessing exactly what Willow was thinking. D-Donnies going on a camping trip with his friends and, um, my father will be at a seminar... Not that Ive thought this through or anything. Tara nervously chuckled knowing that was far from the truth and that Willow knew it.

Tara Willow smiled shyly. She couldnt believe what she was hearing.

Wary, Tara looked down to the ground and crossed her arms under her chest. I just Im tired of being interrupted. You know? Not that its anyones fault really. But This way we have twenty four hours to hang out and get to know each other, better, and you dont not have to worry about being late and getting in trouble. As she looked up she saw the bright look on Willows face. And we- we dont have to do anything, Willow. Im not asking you to come over because- Please dont think that. I just, Tara exhaled tediously before finishing. I just want to wake up with you next to me.

Willow was so moved by the sentiment. She captured Taras hand and brought it up to her lips. She didnt care if anyone saw them. I would love to wake up with you in the morning. Willow was about to lean over and give Tara a kiss when she heard her name called out.

Willow. Buffy and Riley walked up to the two girls. Tara. She smiled as Riley nodded to both.

Hi. The blonde shyly replied.

Whats up, Buffy? Willow purposely let go of Taras hand. She instantly felt horrible about it. Shed held hands with Buffy before. It was something they did once in a while, for comfort, in mutual esteem. Why would she be scared for her to see her holding Taras hand?

Bonfires canceled. Apparently damp wood doesnt burn. Whod have thunk? The Slayer joked. She quickly eyed the two witches and sensed something was up. Both were quite fidgety.

Yeah, theyre going to set up a movie at the assembly hall. Friday the 13th. Riley added.

Willow mumbled, Yay, for Camp Crystal Lake. She had nightmares for years after watching that movie.

You two coming? Buffy asked as she pulled Riley away and headed back to camp.

Willow looked at Tara and shouted out to Buffy, In a bit.

Buffy looked around to them and replied, Whatever. See ya.

Willow could have sworn Buffy was upset about something. Maybe she *was* mad about having to work in the kitchen on her day off. Maybe she had seen her and Tara holding hands. Buffy knew Tara was a witch, Willow had told her. She told her about the ritual and about the teeny Tinkerbell light and about the meadow. Buffy appeared supportive, oddly enough she seemed to trust Tara knew what she was doing when it came to magick. But now Buffy seems a bit nipping. Could that be possible? Willow contemplated.

You ok? Tara asked her. She sensed her worry.

Yeah So? What would you like to do? Willow asked, pushing confusing thoughts to the back of her mind.

Tara laughed timidly and reached out for Willows hand.

***************

So, then, the kittens are fine? Willow asked sitting against the windshield of Taras truck. Shoulder to shoulder with Tara she turned her head to look at the blonde.

Uh huh. Tara said as she continued to stare up at the expanse of space above them. Dad said the mother cat didnt reject them. Looks promising to me.

Willow smiled at her phrasing. Well, if she just gave birth to some of her own, wouldnt she know how many kittens she had? Can cats count?

Tara smiled, still looking at the stars. I think she knows. But her motherly instinct is winning out. Its innate. I think.

Willow continued to stare at Taras profile under the nearly full moon. Do you want children?

A part of me does but another part of me doesnt.

Why not? Willow pried softly.

Tara looked over at Willow, her blue eyes burning into her core. With something she yearned for in her view, Tara slowly leaned in and lightly licked Willows upper lip with her tongue. Tasting the orange flavor of her lip balm, she briskly nibbled on it and seized the redheads mouth with her own.

Willow subsequently opened their mouths as her desire to taste Tara increased and tongues danced. After hooking her left leg over Taras thighs, Willow gradually slipped her left hand inside Taras shirt and caressed her tummy.

Trailing her fingers over Willows freckled arms, Tara lovingly reached over to cup her face as their stimulating kisses continued. Holding the redheads face in her hands as tongues dueled made it more titillating for Tara. Slowly moving her slender body on top of hers Willow was making the blonde hotter. Tara felt she was going to lose consciousness.

Before long Willow broke away from Taras lips only to pattern kisses on her mandible. Taras hands were now lost in red hair as her mouth trailed over Willows cheek. As she gently sucked on one of Willows earlobe the redhead breathlessly murmured, Car keys.

Tara gently pulled Willow back and both stared silently at each other. Green eyes pleaded blues. The blonde reached into her jean pocket and took out her car keys. She impishly dangled them in front of Willow as the redhead giggled. Her whole face lit up as she reached for the keys and jumped off the hood of the car, sliding Tara away with her.

Never turning her gaze from her, Tara reached over and lifted Willows left hand to her lips lightly kissing it. She kissed each finger one by one. Willow laughed nervously realizing her right hand shook slightly as she tried to enter the key in the lock. Tara reached over and stilled her, jointly they inserted the key.

Once unlocked Willow quickly opened the car door and ushered the blonde inside. Swiftly she leaned the blonde down on her back over the front seat of the car. She silently thanked the gods trucks didnt have seat separators as she lifted and bent Taras knees up and shifted herself in between Taras leg, on her knees. She turned around and promptly closed the door behind her, locking it.

Tara had to admit she was quite taken by surprise by Willows zealous maneuvering. Pleasantly surprised. She sat up and captured Willows lips again only to have the redhead gently push her back down. She could feel Willow was trembling, her hands shook against her shoulders.

Willow? Tara asked worried something was wrong. Are you ok?

Willow nodded emphatically as she looked at her hands and felt energy building inside her. Yes. Her eyes connected with Taras and the blonde felt a jolt rush through her body originating from the area of Willows touch. Willow inhaled as she leaned over to kiss Tara, taking off her own jacket and tossing it on the floor at the same time. After Tara helped her remove the clothing, Willow lifted Taras long sleeved shirt over her head and then proceeded to take off her own.

Youre so beautiful. Tara whispered aloud as she lovingly gazed up at the redhead and trailed her fingers from the middle of the purple bra down her belly, to the button. Still kneeling in between Taras legs, Willow tenderly licked her lips as she shut her eyes completely turned on by the simple touch. She sighed as her hands instinctively extended to Taras bra where she cupped her breasts.

Both knew how the other felt, both knew their bodies were ready to be shared. Tara instantly sat up and trapped Willows lips again as the redhead caressed over her shoulder blades with her nails and down her back towards the bra clip.

Willow pulled back and blushingly asked, May I? as her fingers played with the metal hoop of Taras bra.

Oh, Willow. Tara lightly sighed as she nodded and kissed her. Once the blondes bra was off Willow continued to take off her own. Tossing them aside Willow proceeded to kiss Tara again as their hands brushed against each others back. Bodies pressed together as mouths captured arousing moans. The feel of Taras breasts softened against her own drove Willow insane. She never thought she could feel such rapture.

As Taras tongue paced around the tips of redheads breasts, Tara began to feel her energy intensifying inside. Once her mouth closed around a tip and cautiously bit, Willow felt Taras hips shift up under her. Willow dug her nails into Taras back as she pressed down on Tara and let out a soft moan as the center her body seared.

She leaned over driving Tara back against the seat. Taking in the sight of Taras angelic face as she bit her lower lip back in delight, Willow kissed her again.

As Taras hands lovingly stroked her arms and back, Willow carefully conquered Taras upper body. She smoothly licked and sucked at Taras neck as her hands discreetly relocated to Taras breasts. She gently trailed kisses over Taras shoulder.

Willow heard Tara inhale as her fingers quickly began to play with the sensitive nipples. Her lustful mouth wrapped itself around her nipples, switching back and forth at a heated pace. Tara tightened her arms around Willow.

Getting so lost with each other Willow never processed her right hand slid down Taras body and cupped her between her legs. Tara sensually moaned once again and Willow suddenly realized what she was doing. What she was doing to Tara.

She quickly pulled back, their lips popping as they separated.

What? Tara asked a bit frazzled by the sudden loss of Willow everywhere all at once.

Willow took a few moments to calm her heavy breathing. I I dont know how to do this. The redhead muttered momentarily doubtful of her skills.

What? confused, Tara reached down to the floor of her car and grabbed her shirt. She draped it over her upper body, hiding it.

Willow looked at Tara again. She noticed the apprehension in her eyes and shook her head softly. No, I mean She reached out and caressed Taras face. The blonde was nervously tugging on a fingernail and looking towards the dashboard.

Tara, look at me. Willow continued to caress her face and gently turned it towards her. Taras eyes darted everywhere but her green ones. She exhaled slowly as Willow caressed he cheeks. Tara?

W-what? she quietly asked. She had always been afraid that if she ever gave herself to someone that this would happen. She didnt realize that it was more Willows apprehension at wanting this moment to be perfect for her, to do it right, than not wanting to share herself with the blonde. She wanted nothing more than to be with her.

Willow was about to start talking when she sighed instead. She took in another breath and spoke, Dont hide from me. She said as she tugged the shirt off Tara. Dont let me hide from you. I want this to happen. She bent down and kissed Taras left collarbone and then her right one. I just want to do it right. She kissed in between the peaks and then planted slow and loving nibbles all over her throat up to her jaw line.

Tara was even more mystified now. She knew Willows lips kissing her everywhere on her upper body was good. Her hand trafficking south again was even better. If youre not sure- was cut off by the sparkles in the green eyes connecting with hers and Willow deliberately unzipping Taras jeans.

Convinced, Tara quickly reached over and caressed Willow at the base of her neck. She ran her nails up to Willows hairline and squeezed and pressed her head softly. Willows sensorial moans as she kissed her body again thrilled Tara beyond belief.

The redhead carefully inserted her fingers inside the blondes underwear and Tara cried out in bliss as Willows lips captured hers at the same time Willows fingers entered her folds. Taras body bucked up taking prisoner both Willows two fingers and tongue.

Willow couldnt believe a feeling like this existed. Tara was so warm and milky and safe and secure. Knowing the energy building up inside the blonde was because of her and something about being inside Tara, touching the soft and velvety den, made this moment more intimate than Willow had ever experienced. Nothing compared to this.

Am I hurting you? Willow asked overwhelmed, as soon as Taras scent reached her.

No. Tara voiced quietly, driving Willow crazier, as she kissed the redhead again and ran her finger nails down her back.

Some shifting caused her hand to lose easy access and Tara hastily took off her sneakers with her feet behind Willow, and with a little help from the redhead her jeans came off completely.

Willow quickly began to move rhythmically inside her again. She gently felt for the blondes pearl and delicately rubbed it with her thumb, trying not to push too hard. Tara cried out the moment they connected and reached up to hold Willow in her arms as she kissed her once more.

Willow was shocked she could feel the orgasm building inside Tara. She felt it coming, the inner muscles began to contract around her fingers and Taras kisses were hungrier. With her own orgasm building, Willow was beginning to lose her self control and was shocked to find herself rubbing up against Taras bare leg. At once, she stopped pushing herself down.

Tara shook her head and whispered ethereally in her ear, Come with me. She captured the redheads earlobe and sucked on it lightly. Willows senses were on overdrive but registered Taras hands unbuttoning her jeans and slipping them down to her knees on the seat. The redhead tried hard to concentrate on her task at hand but as soon as she felt Taras fingers caress and pleasurably enter her she buckled over and moaned in ecstasy, biting one of Taras nipples.

Tara dug her free hands finger nails into the redheads back and kissed the top of her head as her orgasm released itself on Willows fingers. Willow looked up and kissed Taras lips as her own sweet release overpowered her.

Before long, breathless girls grasped the severity of what had happened. Willow had never made love to a woman before and Tara was afraid Willow would feel disgusted and run away from her.

The redhead looked deep into her eyes as she slowly slipped out of Tara, stroking her once more, committing to memory the feeling. Tara did the same. Willow saw the fear, the anxiety to break the spell they were under if a word was spoken.

She simply exhaled and wiped a small tear rolling down Taras cheek. She inhaled Taras scent radiating from her hand and smiled unwaveringly, kissing Tara again. Tara wrapped her arms around the redheads neck and hugged her close.

***************

Willow found herself snuggling in Taras arms. Her ear against Taras chest, above her heart. She listened to it beat. It had since slowed down but still beat strong. Like it wanted to leap out and touch her.

The blondes nails hadnt stopped drawing faint patterns over her lower back, her spine, her shoulder blades. Willow could feel the little droplets of sweat mixing in between the valley of her breasts and Taras tummy. And it was sticky and warm. In a good way. Taras legs were still bent and Willow was resting in between them, laying on top of her. She was still hugging Tara.

Not a word had been spoken yet, just little sighs acknowledging the gratified feelings both enjoyed.

After what seemed like blessed eternity, Willow pulled up her head and smiled. Tara? she asked as quietly as possible.

Yes? The blonde murmured as she looked over at her.

Its just- Willow frowned a bit. My knees are starting to hurt, and Im losing feeling on my lower legs. She remained kneeling, her feet bent up against the trucks window.

Oh, Willow, Im sorry. Tara said as she tried shuffling out from under.

The encased space of the truck made it difficult for the two girls to move around easily. Ow, Willow cried as all the movement rushed blood back into her legs. Oh god! Tara squealed when she accidentally whacked Willow on the cheek with her elbow. Im sorry, Willow told Tara after stepping on her hands. Umph. Tara voiced as her shoulder knocked against the rearview mirror.

Are you all right? Willow asked worriedly as she buttoned up her pants and settled herself down in front of the steering wheel. She unintentionally honked the horn as Tara nodded. Both girls jumped in place and began to giggle uncontrollably.

After the fits subsided, Willow reached over with her right hand and caressed Taras cheek. Her timid, saintly smile warmed her heart. Tara cupped Willows hand and kissed the inside of her palm, her eyes never disconnecting with Willows.

She could smell and taste herself on Willows hand, and Tara wanted to say it then. She wanted to say it there. She took in a breath but no words came out when she exhaled.

As the moonlight shone through the windshield, Willows eyes languidly darted down her body and grinned. I have a pair like that. she mentioned after recognizing Taras hearts underwear.

I guess you shop at Sears too, huh? Tara said as she reached down to collect her clothes. Miscalculating the distance, she inadvertently knocked her head against the dashboard.

Tara! Willow shouted as she reached over to her.

Im o-ok. I d-didnt see it. She looked over at Willow as she rubbed the upper part of her face. Owwey.

Willow quickly kissed her forehead. Are you all right?

Tara nodded bashfully.

Maybe I should turn on the light. It is kinda darknessy in here. Willow said as she reached up to turn on the little center light on the ceiling of the truck.

No. Im fine. Its fine. Tara reached out and held her hand back. I can see.

Ok. Willow answered as she mindfully watched Tara bring up all their clothes.
Even though she was topless, Willows body was nevertheless burning up. The truck was filled with heat, from their bodies, from their lovemaking. She could smell the mix of their essences and the smell of Taras truck: girlie musk, sweat and vanilla. Do you mind if, uh She stopped talking, realizing that opening the windows would probably drive away the ambrosial scent. She inhaled deeply and closed her eyes as she sighed, nervously handling the steering wheel.

Willows demeanor made Tara a bit fretful. Willow, are you ok? she asked as she jittery rolled down her window.

Tara-! But it was too late, Willow felt a cool breeze rush into the car. It chilled her.

Willow? Tara asked, a look of concern clouded her face.

Im fine. Its just The redhead sadly reached over to her door and lowered her own window as well for cross ventilation. She could smell the scent fading. Willow quickly crossed her arms over her bare chest and stared at the steering wheel dejectedly.

Taras hear stopped. She didnt like the despondent look on Willows face. It was starting, Willow was disgusted with herself. With her. A few seconds later Tara handed Willow her bra and shirt without looking at her. Here.

As Willow and Tara dressed the blondes distraught facial cast did not escape Willow. Tara? Are you mad at me? the redhead questioned once she put her jacket on.

Tara looked at her with due precautions. She didnt want Willow to see her like this, as if she were about to cry. No she stated trying to control her voice.

Willow knew her better, she knew Tara was uncomfortable. Baby, whats wrong? She reached over to cup her hands. Why-

Out of the darkness a figure emerged. Devon turned a flashlight onto the two startled girls. What is going on? What are you doing in the truck, Rosenberg? What is that smell? Are you two smoking pot?

What?! No! Willow said after screaming in fright. Where had Devon come from?

In-incense. Tara mouthed as she looked down at her lap mortified and reached out to the glove compartment and opened it.

At three oclock in the morning?

Three?! Willow was shocked. She looked over to Tara and noticed the same expression.

Yah. Devon held up his wrist and flashed the light on his watch. 3:14 to be precise. He then turned the light on Willows face.

The redhead quickly held her arm up to shield herself from the bright light. Devon, quit it! Turn that off.

Devon shut off the flashlight. So, what *are* you doing out here, Will?

What are *you* doing out here? she retorted. She felt so immature playing that game.

Devon leaned in and whispered, Im a night owl. He backed away from the window and laughed. But dont tell anyone.

Shed known Devon now for over two years and still couldnt figure out his sense of humor. Dont worry, I wont.

Devon quickly shone the light on Tara who was staring at the dashboard after having lit a stick of Vanilla incense. And you, Tara? What is your true point of business at Camp Flutie this evening? Or is it morning? he asked himself.

Willow immediately grabbed the flashlight from him. Devon!

Hey! Give it back! he shouted as Willow rolled up her window. Come on, Will! his shouts muffled by the glass.

Tara looked over at Willows grinning trickster face and chuckled quietly.

Devon began to knock on the window incessantly. Come on! I wont stop knocking. I wont.

Willow looked over to Tara and smiled. What do you think? Should I give him back his flashlight?

Tara nodded. Thats g-getting annoying. She referred to the knocking.

Willow looked over to Devon again. He shouted as he knocked, Come on, Will. My knuckles are starting to hurt. He complained.

Promise you will never flash any lights in peoples faces again.

I promise.

Willow continued, Promise you will no longer blast Who Let the Dogs Out? as our morning wake up song.

I promise.

Promise you will never fart anymore in a van full of people. Devon stopped knocking on the window and stared at her in shock. Promise. she repeated.

Devon dropped his shoulders. Will, thats half the fun of road trips! He registered her resolve face and sighed. Ok, fine, I promise. Its not like you come to our gigs anymore anyhow.

The last statement hurt Willow. She knew that at first she was nothing more than Ozs girlfriend to Devon, but eventually they began to tolerate each other and became friendlier. Being a best friends girlfriend was an odd situation for Willow. Shed always been the best friend jealous of Xanders crushes. She knew from experience what it felt like to think you were second best.

Willow slowly lowered her window and handed him his flashlight silently.

Thanks. Geez, I never believed Oz when he said you had a little sadistic streak in you.

Go away, Devon. She said in a hushed tone even as she glared at him.

Devon huffed and turned to walk away. Willows eyes never wandered from the receding figure.

I-I should go. Tara stammered, breaking the silence.

Willow quickly turned to Tara. Im sorry about him. Hes a jerk sometimes.

Its n-not about Devon. She admitted.

Is it about the sadistic streak comment? Cause, Tara, thats not true. Way off. Never. I mean sometimes I get a little crazy- But not crazy, crazy like whips and chains and stuff but- Im not wild at all. Im totally vanilla. A-and the only reason I know that phrase is because- Ok, Im definitely not following what *Im* saying anymore so maybe I should shut up now.

Tara simply stared at her. No smile, like when Willow tended to babble. Not a frown on her face either. For the first time since shed known her Willow couldnt read Taras body language. Tara? she asked, alarmed.

The blonde lowered her head as she nervously played with her hands. I think I s-should go. She voiced again.

Why? Willow felt like crying. What happened? She didnt understand. Everything was perfect. Why was Tara suddenly acting like this?

Its late. She answered.

No, tell me whats wrong Please. Willow reached over and clasped her hands.

I- Tara looked up at her but couldnt finish.

Willows chest was beginning to hurt. Was it me? Did I do something wrong? Please tell me.

Tara shook her head ardently. No, it was me. This is all my fault.

What? What is? But Tara didnt answer, she simply looked down at their tied hands. Somehow, with her silence, Willow just knew. You think Im going to run away from you? Taras quick glance answered her. Im not. Tara, Im here. I told you already, I want this. I know it. I feel it. Since the moment we met. Ive never felt this way. I thought I was in love before but no- not like this. Not this certain. Making love to you proved it.

Tara wanted to speak. She wanted to tell Willow so much. Everything. But she couldnt. She was afraid. Afraid to speak and stutter, afraid to speak and mess everything this up, afraid to speak and have Willow hate her. Ive never, um Tara stopped and stared at the trail smoke drifting away from the stick of incense.

Willow was astounded as the realization of what she thought Tara was about to admit registered. I What?

Tara was in love with her, she knew that. Even before she met her. She had to tell her now and she fought hard to not stutter. Youre the only p-person Ive given myself to she said as tears threatened to escape.

Willows thoughts went on overdrive. Im Taras first? How is this possible!? Tara kissed the right places, she touched the right spots, she knew exactly how to-

Taras blues connected with Willow, quieting her head. Im sorry if I- I kn-know you have more experience than-

Willow quickly wiped the single tear that ran down Taras cheek. Tara, no, you- you were amazing. I I cant believe this Im your first? Willow asked a bit light-headed by the admission.

My only. Tara spoke in a whisper.

Willow beamed at the confession. Then, the sudden awareness of where they were, where they made love Oh my god! Willow freaked out. Im awful! Tara, this- Im- In your truck? I mean, how romantic am I? Ooh, lets go look at stars, she began to mock. And then- and the

Tara looked at her, Hey, the stars were my idea, she pouted.

Willow recognized how shed sounded, No! I meant the part after. Its just there was ear nibbling and- There was that thing that you did with you hands in my hair- hoo- Willow breathed deeply. But I didnt know. I wouldve- We-

What? You would have done it differently? I d-didnt want that. I wanted you to be you. She said as she whisked Willows hand with her own.

Willow modestly smiled at Tara. I was. For the first time in my life I was. She took another deep breath before asking, Was I, uh- Did you, um- Tara? She hoped she wouldnt have to actually say the words. She was blushing so hard right now her cheeks were burning.

Shed felt Taras body release but just wanted to make sure. She remembered that the first time she had an orgasm it was tiny, and compared to subsequent ones not very powerful. She just wanted to be positive Tara had been satisfied.

Tara loved watching Willow squirm so cute like that and bashfully smiled. The same thoughts were running through her mind. She lovingly squeezed her hand and replied, Yes.

Willow grinned. Good. Me too You just touch me and I I get hot. And bothered And I cant think of anything else. I just

Tara noticed the tears forming in Willows eyes. They twinkled with the moonlight. Tara leaned forward and kissed her forehead. She then kissed her lips as she encircled the redhead in her arms once more.

***************

Parting is such sweet sorrow, Willow said under her breath as she walked back to camp alone. That I shall say good night till it be- Xander? She asked, suddenly noticing a familiar shape sitting on top of one of the picnic tables.

Hey, Will. What are you doing walking around? He asked a bit cast down.

I, um, couldnt sleep. You? she asked as she threw out the handi wipes shed used to clean her hands. She smiled as she thought of Taras mini survival kit in her car. Handi wipes, and water and a flashlight-

Well, I was sleeping but Cordelia threw me out of her hut. Xander chuckled halfheartedly.

Why were you with- Oh I dont get you, Xander. Why do you do this to yourself? she inquired as she sat down across from him.

What?

Like people that are mean to you?

But Cordelias mean to everyone.

Yeah, I know. Willow huffed, memories of tortures past sprung to mind.

Hey. Look, Im not doing this on purpose. Cordys hot. I cant help it, I have eyes.

She gave up trying to come up with the million reasons why eyes werent enough. You need some sense knocked into you. Xander Willow shook her head disappointingly. Cordelia?

Xander readied himself to explain. Ok, lets say you liked girls, in a truly hypothetically, bizarro world- Nah, lets just say you were a guy cause you are kinda my girl-guy, ya know? Although, if you were ever to like a girl- He wriggled his eyebrows as he grinned goofily. He registered her glare and continued. Sorry. But anyways, if you could make out Cordelia, hottest girl in Sunnydale, wouldnt you take that chance?

No. she replied.

But being the butt monkey everyone thinks I am-

You are not a butt monkey!

Yes, I am. I mean look at me- Im Joe Blow to your witchy powers and Buffys Slayerness. Im working in the kitchen at a summer camp. I dont go to college like you and Buffy and Cordys right, I am a loser.

And you *still* make out with her? She asked raising her eyebrows. Xander was such a dummy sometimes.

Yeah. Its just shes so pretty. He sighed.

Is that all you care about? Looks? What about the person in side, Xander? A soul-mind connection with somebody else. The person whose smile make you smile. Whose laugh makes you laugh. Whose touch makes you- I cant believe youd be that shallow.

And I cant believe you are still a romantic at heart, Will. You honestly believe in that stuff?

Willow paused briefly as she thought of Tara. I know it.

Oz?

Willow mournfully shook her head. No.

Oh OH! Will, I though we- I mean, weve been there done that but- We-

Its not you, Xander. Who do you think you are? Tarzans mother?

Umm, Tarzans mother, Will? he interrupted quite confused by the term.

It doesnt matter. She didnt want to have to explain Taras joke to him. He probably wouldnt get it. You think Im still- With you? Im not. Not for a long time. When our fluke happened, it- I realized I liked you because I thought I couldnt have you. Willow suddenly wished she could take back the words. She saw Xanders hurt expression instantly.

What? I was like a prize that you wanted and then you didnt after I spent twenty bucks on those stupid shooting ducks thing because somebody else gave you a bigger plush toy? True, he was thinking about Cordelia and the Renaissance fair last spring but that was the best analogy he could come up with.

Willow was troubled by his tone of voice. Xander, no. I-

Then what? I meant nothing to you!?

Of course you did. You still do. Xander, I love you. Youre my best friend. I just- I dont feel that way anymore. I dont know how or why but I Ive changed. Ive grown. We both have. I Willow sighed.

Xander took a few moments to reply as his Xadneresque demeanor returned, I know I sometimes acted like an jerk to Oz but- Im glad he was your- That you two were together. He was good to you.

He was. I think I needed him them. I didnt really know what was going on in this head of mine, you know? Like, I was two different people. Willow with Xander was one and Willow with Oz was the other. One was the crushed out best friend, and the other the geekness is in while dating a popular boy kind of girl. And, I guess I was a different Willow to Buffy and Giles as well. I divided myself. But not anymore.

Willow continued to illustrate as a smile curled her lips. Cause one day all of you will fit with another person. One of these days youll find yourself looking across a room and there shell be Sitting alone, reading a book, eating only an apple. And shell smile and youll smile and then youll know. And shell make you feel like youve never felt before. Like- Willow began to squiggle as Xanders bright look registered. What?

Xander shook his head as he smiled. That was quite nice. I like that, but Im still not going to stop fooling around with Cordelia.

What about Anya? You know shes infatuated with you.

No way, shes too straight forward and blunt.

They mean the same thing, Xander.

Confusion spread, Really? he asked.

Yes.

Xander grinned. Oh, well, no wonder Im the layman of the group. In the non-laying kinda man- Willows grin radiated as she though of Tara and their lovemaking. He eyed her. Cause uh, Cordys just teasing You ok there, Will? Thats quite a happy, happy look youve got.

She bashfully covered her grin with her hand. She could still smell Tara on her hands, taste her in her mouth, feel her everywhere. Yes. She murmured.

Xander smiled one of his goofy grins. Lil Will is getting some, uh, lil willy. Huh? he asked, his expression bemused by his own statement.

What?!

Please, youre totally glowing. And giddy and giggly and all that other girly stuff.

No, Xander-

Its cool. Its obvious hes still in love with you.

What?! The comment stunned Willow. Who?

Oz. At first I thought he and Tara were-

Tara!? Willows mind was spinning. Oz and Tara?

Yeah. When I worked those two months at the post office before I got fired- Which by the way was so not my fault! It was Rob who- Willows agitated eyes stopped his babbling. He -he got some letters from her. Like, three. I remembered her from last year.

Letters? Xander knew Tara from last year? You met Tara last year? she asked. How was it possible two of the closest people in her life met her beloved last year and she hadnt?

Yeah, she was in our group. While you and Buffy were off with Cordelia and Devons group. Not that Im still holding a grudge that they hooked up last summer or anything. Again, Willows annoyed expression paused him. She got sick like two days into the session and went home. I wonder how she got Mono.

Willow had never even thought about that. Mono was commonly referred to as the kissing disease in high school, so who had Tara been kissing last summer? Willows emotions were bubbling up inside, she felt it. She was upset with herself for not asking about the Mono. She was heartbroken that Tara hadnt mentioned anything about it to her. She was jealous of whoever the other person was.

Was Tara keeping more secrets from her? Willow had no clue that tonight had been her first time, shed never let her hormones take over like that! She deserved a bed full of rose petals and Sarah Mclachlan. And, the whole Oz association? She hadnt pressed further about that as well. Letters? She got letters form Tara. Love letters. 'But Tara loves me. Tara gave herself to me.' she thought.

Ladies and gentlemen, Willow Rosenbergs furrowed brow at full force. Xander broke her train of thought.

Huh, what?

What are you thinking about in there? Its been quite a while since Ive seen that look on your face.

I gotta go. Willow said as she quickly stood up.

Go? But its only, Xander looked at his watch, almost four in the morning. Weve stayed up longer than this.

She was worried, she was tired, she was sleepy. I think I want to take a shower. Willow always took hot showers to calm herself down although she wasnt sure it would help this time.

Yeah, though I like your new fragrance. Very Tara. He said with a smirk. "Nice."

Willow quickly turned around and gave him a look. How would he know what she smelled like? What?!

Vanilla? I can smell it. Mixed in with the tingly scent of Handi Wipes and, umm,... Have you been digging up roots under the full moon again, witchy Willow? Or is it burying a potato under a-

Good night, Xand. She unhappily said as she walked off.

Wait! Can you at least explain the Tarzans mother remark?

***************

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? WOOF, WOOF, WOOF! WHO-

Willow groaned in her bed. She abruptly pulled the pillow over her head and mumbled incoherently, even to herself. This day was not starting out well at all.

All throughout breakfast Willow was lost in thought. Shed gone through the motions of getting her cereal, coffee and fruit, but she wasnt hungry. She was disconcerted about everything that happened last night. Tara, the truck, what Xander said She felt euphoric about Tara, but at the same time she felt misled and she didnt understand why. It was festering inside her.

After breakfast the round robins began and Buffy and Willows group joined up with Jonathans group at the stables. The instant Willow saw Tara her heart melted thinking of the night before, but the closer she got the more the redheads body became fidgety. So much was running through her head she didnt even know where to begin.

A grin crossed the blondes face as she walked up to her. Hey.

Hi. Willow meekly said.

I spoke to Beth and she agreed to take over on Monday for me.

Yay. Willow nodded her head briefly as she took in a deep breath.

Tara knew something was odd. A-are you all right? Is something wrong?

I just I didnt get enough sleep last night. She shyly smiled at Tara.

I couldnt fall asleep. The blonde daintily whispered to her, I kept thinking about you.

Willow painfully grinned. Me too.

Out of the corner of her eye Tara noticed one of the boys improperly setting the saddle. Hold on. She said to Willow as she walked over to help, Mark, you need to make sure the saddles on tight or thatll happen to your rump rug.

The sound of Taras voice faded as Willow observed her.

Willow? Would you mind helping me? Buffy asked, walking up. I cant seem to clamp the thing in the thing correctly.

Willows gaze shifted from Tara. Huh? Thing?

Yeah, the horsie thing where I put my feet.

Um, the stirrups? Sure. She replied as she walked over towards Buffys horse.

So, what time did you get in last night? Buffy casually asked as Willow studied her handiwork. You werent there when I got back from patrolling.

Late. Willow voiced as she sneaked a peak at her best friend. How did you manage to twirl this around like this?

I didnt do that. It was like that when I got it Are you ok? Buffy asked her, concerned.

No. she truthfully replied as she ceased her movements and stared at the saddle for a second.

I, um I was going to go look for you after the movie. But

I was with Xander. For a while.

Xander?

Willow glanced at Buffy. Yeah. Why? Buffy didnt answer her. Here you go. Good as new. She said, finished with her minor modifications.

Thanks. Buffy voiced as Willow walked away and headed towards the entrance of the stable, leaning against the door opening.

Ok, you got it now? Tara asked the blushing camper. He nodded with a gushy grin on his face. Is everyone ready? the blonde asked the group of kids and counselors.

Everyone shouted at the same time, Yes.

Ok, inspection time. Line up.

Willow looked as the campers took their horses by the reigns and lined them up in the center of the stable. She watched Tara carefully inspect each horse one by one. She saw her smile, nod, and adjust whatever was wrong with of the any horses get up. She finally inspected the first horse in queue and looked over to Willow.

Feeling adventurous today? she half smiled.

Not really.

Are you sure?

Yes.

Ok, see you later then. Tara grinned as she led the group out.

***************

By the time the riders came back Willow was ready to detonate. Shed spent the last forty-five minutes imagining different scenarios on how to convey her feelings to Tara in an adult like manner.

As the campers and counselors put away their equipment and groomed their horses, Willow walked up to Tara and asked, Tara, could I please speak to you a second? Outside?

Tara nodded happily. Whats up? She asked, following Willow to the side of the stables. She moved forward for a quick kiss but stopped a few inches from Willow when she noticed her pout. What?

Distressed, Willow began, Ive been thinking. A lot. Not about you and me though it does have to do with you and me, but not that I wasnt thinking about you and me because I was thinking about you and me. So I guess I have. But, Ive been thinking about how I dont like letting things fester inside. Its not good. Im not a good festerer. It makes my stomach all acid-y and- Willow took a deep breath before replying. I want to know about you and Oz.

Huh? Tara asked confused by the question.

You and Oz. Letters? Xander told me you wrote to him last year. She said crossing her hands over her chest restlessly. She hated feeling like a tattletale but she needed to know the truth.

W-what? Tara asked completely disquieted, she couldnt believe this. Willow, he sent me a card when I was in the hospital with Mono. I wrote him back. Then he wrote me back. And we corresponded.

Nothing more?

Taras eyes showed her pain. No, why would you think that? You think- me and Oz? Willow. We hardly knew each other at camp last year, I dont just fool around with people I meet. And especially not boys. She shook her head in disappointment as she turned around to head back to the stables.

No wait! She desperately grabbed Taras hand. Im sorry. I know youre gay. Hello, me too. I guess. I-I just- I have problems sharing my people. She was ready to kick herself, Argh! Im saying everything wrong!

Your people? she asked, though Willows I guess wasnt overlooked.

No, that didnt come out right. I mean-

I know exactly what you mean. She said as she gently shook off Willows grasp and walked off.

Tara, wait. Im sorry. Im just so confused and- I love you. Im in love with you. And Once Tara turned back around to her, Willow stopped talking.

Tara looked over at her and sighed. You dont accuse people like that if youre in l-love with them. It was just friendly chat, Will. You should trust me enough to-

Tara, I do.

Obviously not. She said her voice aching with emotion.

Wait.

This isnt the time nor the place, Willow. She said, hurt, as she sauntered back to the stables.

Willow was clenching her fists in anger, she wanted to scream. Shed messed it up. Silly, stupid thoughts! Tara probably hated her now and it was all her fault. She quickly looked around the ground, grabbed a pebble and threw it against a tree trunk nearby.

Wow, you slayed it. Id say youre getting better and better at throwing things, Will. Buffy chuckled as she walked over to her best friend. Maybe you should take over for me.

Tears were forming in Willows eyes. Im in love with her. she admitted quietly without looking at her best friend.

Buffys eyes widened, it took a few seconds to respond. Well... Uh I-I know. She said, sensitively.

What? Willow asked as she wiped the tears from her cheek.

Its pretty obvious. Plus I, uh In the truck, Willow? she smiled trying to comfort the redhead.

How did- Oh god! Patrolling, huh? How much did you see?! Willow began to hyperventilate as she braced herself for the worst. This was definitely the worst day of her life.

Nothing! I didnt see anything. I promise. I just saw you shove her in the truck. And, um-

I did not shove! I nudged. She blushed.

Buffy was already red. And I *was* patrolling. The busses are in the parking area and I just wanted to make sure, you know- No new demons. But enough about me Buffy couldn't think of a word other than, Wow.

Willow smiled sweetly as she nodded. I know.

Wow. Buffy said again, playing with her hands nervously.

Yeah, I heard you the first time... Is this freaking you out? Are you freaked? Willow asked, worried.

What? No. Im- Ok. Its a little wiggy but Ive been absorbing and trying to process this for a while. I kinda saw it coming, you know? The witch stuff-

Witch stuff?

Well, yeah. Witchess, womanly, earthly, goddess-y

Lesbian-y? Willow said, sarcastically.

Willow, no. I dont think youre-

Hey, Jenn came running up to Willow and Buffy. Im going to the cabin to get my baseball cap, ok?

Ok. Buffy answered. Her gaze turned back to Willow who was staring down at her shoes. Willow? she asked her heart breaking to see her best friend so rueful like this.

Shes mad at me now.

Why?

You know me. I say stupid things when Im Willow started to cry.

Itll be fine. Buffy hugged Willow.

***************

Willow spent the rest of the round robins in a gloomy mood. She always did this, she let her thoughts run wild in her mind and then never had the willpower to stop her babbling once she began to speak the aloud. Adding to her misery was Taras absence from the dining hall during lunch.

After lunch, an impromptu game of tag football was assembled between the staff and campers and most went to either play or watch. Since the play rehearsals were postponed until the second hour of the break, Willow went to shower to try and settle her mind

She wanted to go to the stables and see Tara but she wasnt sure if Tara would be there. She even made a peanut butter sandwich for her at lunch but left it behind when she remembered Tara didnt like peanuts.

She reflected on the fact that she knew what frightened her and what made her happy, what the blonde liked and what she didnt like. She mentally made a list as she showered. Likes: vanilla (that was a given though), cats, rainy days, telling stories, playing with flower petals... Dislikes: moonless nights, mean people, loneliness.

Within the last two weeks both had shared so many secrets, so many hopes and dreams that Willow couldnt believe the bond was so strong between them. It was more than just magick, it was more than attraction, it was something deeper. Shed never had that before.

Xander was her best friend since childhood. Her knight in less than shiny armor that always made her laugh when he wasnt making her miserable by fooling around. Buffy was her best friend too. Shed only known Buffy for four years but they had gotten close pretty quickly. She guessed that usually happened when someone saved your life and you fought the good fight alongside them. Oz had been a slow development but Willow knew she would always be able to count on him. No matter what he always put her first, and it was very comforting to know that. But Tara Happy thoughts came to Willow while underneath the running water.

After her shower, Willow heart still ached and her mind raced. Ultimately, she decided she would go to the barn and look for Tara. Lost in her own little world, she didnt notice she was walking through a section of the football field. She also didnt hear the screams coming from campers and counselors behind her as a football knocked her on her head. She quickly fell to the ground.

***************

Ow, my head. Willow groggily uttered once she came to. She could smell the scent of rubbing alcohol and knew at once that she was in the infirmary.

Willow?! Buffy quickly walked over to the cot. She tried not to talk so loud to her friend. Are you ok? Can you see me? Can you hear me? How many of me do you see? she whispered.

Just one annoying Buffy, Buffy.

Good. I mean, hey!

Willow, are you all right? The nurse, Ms. Calendar, asked as she peered into her line of vision. Are you dizzy? Vision blurry? She proceeded examine Willow.

Eyes blurry. Head hurts. She frowned as Miss Calendar checked her eyes.

You were hit by a football, Will.

Did you slay it? She asked as the nurse reviewed her reflexes.

No, you pretty much did. With you head. Are you sure youre ok?

Miss Calendar was now checking her pulse. I think so. I feel like my brain fell out though.

Miss Calendar? Buffy asked, panicked.

Miss Calendar smiled sweetly. Dont worry, Buffy. Shes just in shock. She needs a few hours of rest and then shell be as good as new.

You promise?

Yes, otherwise well have to take her to a doctor in town.

No, no doctor. No like them. Willow said as sleep conquered her again.

***************

By the time Willow woke up again the sun had set. She slowly opened her eyes only to find her vision was still blurred. As she took a deep breath she smelled her. Vanilla.

Tara? She managed to say even though her throat was parched.

Oz quickly awoke at the sound of her voice. Will?

Tara?

Oz rose from one of the chairs in the room. Oh, she was here for a while. But she had to go. Something about being late.

She left? Willow pouted, she felt even worse. Water, please.

Of course, He said as he grabbed a bottle from the mini fridge. After opening the bottle he walked over to Willow and sat on the ground by the cot. He handed the bottle over to the redhead and began to lovingly run his fingers through her hair. We all were very worried about you. Especially Tara.

Was she? she asked downheartedly after taking a large sip.

You guys have become close, closer, havent you? he said with a bit of a tremble in his voice.

S-o-r-t of. Willow replied. She didnt want to get into this conversation with Oz. It would hurt too much.

He retracted his hand from her hair. Thats nice I mean-

Oz? She focused her eyes on her ex boyfriend, Willow could tell he was uncomfortable.

I just Be careful. He voiced as he looked at her broken-hearted.

Careful? Oz She hated to see that look on his face. It was the same look he gave her when he caught her and Xander making out during their fluke. The same look when shed pleaded with him to take her back, the same look when he broke up with her.

I dont want you to get hurt, Willow. You have an incredible heart and Shes great and likable. Shes very...

You- You know?

Yeah. He said as he stood up.

How?

Oz half smirked as he gazed over to Willow. Your whole face lights up when you see her or even talk about her, your body language changes. Its quite interesting actually.

Interesting?

Im- uh, Im going to go.

Oz, wait.

No. I gotta go. He said as she walked out of the room.

Willow began to silently cry as soon as the door shut behind him. Why were things so complicated? Now Oz was mad and Tara was mad, she had two people she loved dearly angry with her.

A few minutes later, there was a soft knock on the door. Miss Calendar entered.

How are you doing, Willow? she asked.

Peachy.

Well, you have two visitors. You up for it?

Certainly. Im up. She said sarcastically, motioning to the bed she was laying on.

Is she always this chipper when she wakes up? she jokingly asked Xander and Buffy as they entered the room.

Well, not really. No. Buffy smiled.

Hey, Im chipper. Just saving energy.

I have something for energy right here, Xander said as he brought over a plate full of Willows favorite fruits and vegetables. He included tonights chicken dinner as well. Somebody order room service?

Willow smiled until she saw the apple. It reminded her of Tara. Again, her mind swirled with Tara filled thoughts.

Is she sleeping with her eyes open? Xander asked Buffy as they stared at Willow.

Willow was still lost in thoughts but her frown was slowly curling up in a smile. Probably thinking about Tara. Buffy guessed aloud. She quickly realized what shed said and looked away from Willow.

Ah, yes, Tara. Quite a looker if you ask me. Smells really nice too. Id What? He asked as soon as Buffys glare registered. Wait, why would Willow be- Oh! What? How? Huh?

Old news. Whereve you been?

In the kitchen slaving away! I thought its be the easiest job this summer but its so difficult to remember all the temperatures and stuff. And all those machines- Steamers, dishwashers. The campers dont help me out, they just throw leftover food at each other. And the moping is murder! Xander looked back at Willow. When did this happen?

Willow was suddenly back in the conversation, Earlier today. I was hit by a football.

And that made you gay?

Huh? she asked, still a bit dazed.

Hes talking about Tara.

Buffy! Willow shot daggers at her.

Willow, why didnt you tell me? Xander asked, hurt.

Buffy popped a grape in her mouth. She didnt tell anyone.

I dont have to tell anyone. Its my business. Willow replied.

Well, me and Riley knew.

Riley was there with you last night?! Willow asked freaking out Riley had also spied on her and Tara.

Where? Oh my god! Wait! Youre cheating on Oz? Again?

What? No, Xander." He sure was slow sometimes. "Its Tara. Just Tara. Willow professed.

Tara? Last night? Holy Sappho. You and Tara? his eyes twinkled. So, thats why you smelled like-

Xander! Both Buffy and Willow yelled.

Vanilla! Geez. Why didnt you tell me, Will? Everything you said last night, that was all about her? We were sharing. Why didnt He had on his hurt puppy dog face. You could have told me.

Xander, youre my oldest and bestest friend in the whole wide world, who brings me lots of goodies to eat when Im in the infirmary, but you made your eyebrows wiggle when you were talking about the thought of me and another girl. Willow fought the smirk trying to spread over her features. Thats not a very share with me your internal turmoil expression. That was more of an ooh, lesbians rock look. She smiled.

He shook his head, he knew hed lost the battle. You kill me, Rosenberg. You always kill me with that smile of yours.

I know. Now let me eat the food you brought. Im starving.

***************

It had been a few minutes after lights out and Willow had told Buffy she was all right to stay in the cabin with their girls. Buffy hadnt wanted to leave her alone but knew nothing could happen, she was in a cabin with six other girls. So she went to the bonfire to meet up with Riley.

Miss Calendar jokingly told Willow not to lose herself in thought so much when crossing a football field again, but she was doing exactly that now. Not the crossing a football field part, just the thoughts while lying in her bed. Her thoughts were all on Tara.

Two of her campers were sleeping while the other four were gathered on a corner bed talking to themselves, but Willow didnt care. Lights out be dammed. She knew they were cooking up a raid so tried hard to listen while pretending to be asleep but couldnt. She was restless thinking of her blonde.

Tara she whispered under her breath. She looked outside the window by the front door conveniently located next to her bed. She could see the stars through the mosquito net and the bright moon.

No, we have to go around it. Jenn whispered to the girls gathered on her bed.

We cant. Its all like grassy and I heard there are snakes underneath the cabin. Kimberly said she shook her head in fear. I dont like snakes.

Why cant we just go through the front? Jamie asked as she settled her cast in her over the shoulder sling.

Are you girls planning what I think your planning? Willow whispered loud enough for them to hear.

No! Jenn was startled. Were not planning anything.

Willow chuckled. Tell you what. Next week, after outward bound, Buffy and I will help you raid cabin 5. Cabin number five for some reason had the all hottest boys in camp and all the teenaged girls were in love with them. Willow knew from experience that boys, especially during outward bound, in their juvenile quest to impress the ladies, out did themselves and were so tired that a bomb would not be able to wake them up the next night.

The girls all gasped in glee and ran over to Willows bed crating a huge ruckus with the creaky floors and their burst of giggles.

Shhh! the redhead laughed again. Youll wake up everybody.

The girls all settled in around Willow as Willow sat up. All were talking at the same time, asking how she was feeling, asking questions about the outward bound, and about the boys from cabin five.

***************

A few hours later Willow awoke to a gentle breeze passing through her window. She looked over to Buffys bed and noticed the Slayer hadnt come back from the bonfire. She didn't think much of it. Sometimes shed stay the night with Riley returning early in the morning before her campers woke up.

She yawned as she stretched in her bed and felt her back spasm. Shed been in bed too long. Even though it was three in the morning Willow decided to go for a walk and so she brushed her teeth, bundled up and headed out. She whispered the protection spell Tara taught her the night before as the moonlight bathed her.

While she strolled around the quiet camp she noticed some lights in the kitchen were lit and heard some noises coming from inside. She wondered if someone was raiding it. However, they werent being very smart about it with the lights on and the sounds of pots falling on the floor. As she neared the kitchen she heard a moan and stopped in her tracks.

Cordy. she heard Xanders voice quite clearly.

Dont stop, Xander. Cordelia groaned back. oh, right there.

Willow heart began to race and she was about ready to throw up. Xander and Cordelia? Yuck. Double yuck. Not wanting to hear their noises anymore she took of running through the camp. She wasnt paying attention to where she was going, she didnt care.

She wasnt hurt Xander and Cordelia were It was just upsetting. They had formed the I hate Cordelia Chase Club in middle school together! She treated him like crap, treated Willow like crap. But hormones have a way of betraying you, she guessed.

Before she realized it she was at the stables. Shed run all the way to the stables in the middle of the night without even thinking about it. She also noticed a little flicker of light coming from the inside.

Tara? she whispered into the night.

She stood still and listened for noises that would let her know she wouldnt be coming across another amorous couple that evening. After about half a minute she didnt hear anything and gently knocked on the door. Without waiting she opened one of the large doors and entered the barn.

Tara? She asked a bit louder this time.

She heard some rustling from above and heard her voice, Willow?

Hey. She said as she looked up to Tara lying in the barracks again. She was on her stomach, book in hand with her little lantern glowing next to her. What are you doing here? the redhead asked as a sense of warmthness enveloped her. The sight of Tara melted her heart.

I couldnt s-sleep. W-what are you doing out? apprehensively the blonde asked.

Couldnt sleep either. She knew Tara was nervous. She also knew it was her fault. Look, about this afternoon- she began.

I dont want to talk about it. Tara dolefully mentioned as she turned on her back and proceeded to read her book again.

Willows heart stopped. Tara, no. I- She quickly looked at the barracks and tried to figure out a way to get up there. She could use the stack of hay against one of the pens to help herself up, but what if she lost her balance and was knocked out again? What if she-

Willow heard a soft chuckle from above. Tara was now looking over at her scheming her way onto the barracks. Willows face always betrayed her internal contemplation.

Willow smiled softly, Help me. The redhead could swear even with the dim candlelight she saw various conflicting emotions play through Taras face. Please. I want to talk to you, Tara.

Tara cautiously nodded and turned over on her stomach again holding out her right hand to Willow. Willow clasped it and lifted herself onto the haystack. It was quite wobbly but Taras firm grip helped her steady herself. Tara quickly reached over with her left and held her with both hands.

Put your right foot on the ledge over there. The blonde guided her. Then lift yourself up with your leg.

Willow knew this meant she would be up in the air for a few seconds and she didnt think it was such a good idea after having been knocked out earlier that day. Even though she trusted Tara she mouthed, Dont let go. as she took a deep breath readying herself for the lift.

Tara nodded her head sweetly and then told Willow that it was time for her move. Willow did. But in the rush of lifting she grew a bit dizzy and lost her balance. She began to fall back, her feet losing their footing on the stack. Tara! she shouted.

I got you! Tara voiced as she quickly sat up and held on to Willow. Tara was not a skinny person but she wasnt a big girl either. Wherever her strength came from that allowed her to lift Willow up to the barrack alone was unknown.

But with the thrusting of Willow up towards her Tara fell on her back and Willow landed on her tummy. Both girls exhaled deeply knowing they were safe. At once, Willow leaned over to Tara and kissed her. She was hurt when Tara gently pulled her away, unlocking their lips.

Willow Tara hoarsely whispered as she looked away. She wanted nothing more than to feel her lips again, touch her, hold her close, but Tara didnt know anymore how Willow felt about her.

Willow drew back a stray lock of hair from her face. Im sorry. Im sorry about this afternoon. I was a big dummy. And the gods agree, I got hit by a football. Knocked me out.

Will, thats not funny. You could have been seriously hurt.

Will, thats not funny. You could have been seriously hurt.

Willow saw the concern in Taras eyes and appreciated it. I know but I freaked out, Im sorry. I just Willow leaned over on her back, both girls now stared at the ceiling. Things were going so good and I thought- well, I thought it was like a set up. You know? Tara shook her head softly. I didnt know if you liked me for me or from what Oz told you about me.

I like you for you, Willow. Oz told me a couple of things about you but it doesnt compare to the actual you. To actually talking to you, being with you. Nothing comes close to the real you.

Willow looked over to Tara and scanned her profile in the candlelight. Tara has a sculpted face, so beautiful and sensual.

Tara turned to look at her, Im sorry I didnt tell you earlier. I just didnt want you to think that.

Its my fault. I was totally out of line. You know how people in love are always kinda crazy? Well, Im normally like that so I guess double it- no triple it up with me being in love and you get what you got. Im sorry.

Yeah, you are kinda wacky arent you? Tara smiled.

Willow turned over to her side, her head held up by her hand. She slowly reached out and softly traced her fingers over Taras neck, You calm me though. When Im with you Im calm. How do you do that? How can you be so mature and wise and not act like a silly teenager? Like me.

Im actually a 200 year old wood sprite. She answered with a straight face.

Willow giggled and immediately kissed her lips. She slowly pulled back. I love you. She murmured sincerely as she stared into her blue eyes. She saw tears forming and leaned over to kiss her nose and eyelids. Shh Dont cry baby. She kissed the tears away. Willow half smiled and sighed. So, why cant you sleep?

Tara grinned as wiped her tears and replied, I was worried. The girl Im in love with was hit by a football.

Oh! I heard about that. She was off in her own little world and didnt hear people screaming for her to get off the field. Im sure it was a hilarious sight.

Tara frowned and whispered aloud. It wasnt. I was terrified.

You saw it? Tara nodded sadly. Willow felt horrible. Oh, baby, Im sorry. I was thinking of you and I didnt Taras hand was now slowly tracing her fingers over Willows cheek, caressing her features. I she closed her eyes in bliss.

Ever so slowly, Tara pulled Willows face closer to hers and kissed her forehead near the big red mark left by the football that was turning a bit purple-y as it bruised. They looked deep within each others eyes and kissed again. Gently, lips brushed upon lips, tongues roamed inside and out as Willow traced Taras mouth before playfully assaulting it again.

Hands roamed and pressed bodies closer, fingers caressed emotions higher as bosoms pressed, and areas were bitten gently, spots sucked on lovingly. Willow deliberately took her time feeling, touching, learning Tara. And Tara, at a leisurely pace as well, did the same.

The End

Here's the sequel

Ok, I finally read it. Great stuff Rane, one of my new favourite alternate realities and it makes sense as well. I like the fact that all the old scoobies, including Oz, are there. All the characters remain true to form as does the love between WT. I am looking forward to catching up on the continuation. Thanks dear. :)

I love this fic! I read it way back in 2003 and was so happy when I found it again here in the archive! Camp Flutie is one of my favourite fics of all time! But I'm quite sure (like 105 % allmost) that this fic is missing the last parts...

So...that leads me to the question if anyone knows if there is a complete version out there somewhere...? Because I would really like to re-read it ;-)
