 Post subject: My Poems -- and more! (new non-poem stuff!)
PostPosted: Thu May 27, 2004 8:53 pm
Yeah, I've been around for a few weeks now. I haven't really posted much, mostly because there's so much to just sit and read...and read...and read...

Anyway. There's a bit of a story behind this poem. I wrote this a couple months ago. One day I was just ranting in my journal about all the day-to-day stuff, you know, fully aware that I wasn't really "writing" anything that could turn into any sort of actual piece/story/poem. so this thought popped in my head, "Jeez, you're just wasting ink." So I got sort of mad at myself, sort of angsty over the whole writer's block all at the same time. Enough of the rambling, this is what I ended up with. Warning--it's a tad lengthy.

"The Pen" (I'm not much for titles...*cough*)

The clear-shafted pen.

Pricey, but not so expensive you cringe.

Although a skeptic at heart,

You can’t deny being impressed by its

Sheer,

Inky,

Boldness.

Profusely flowing,

Wet ink.

Waiting, at your disposal.

So impressed

You pretend not to notice

The way it smears your hand,

Ever so subtly.

Every day,

You use it,

Either

Ignoring or choosing not to see

The cylinder of ink,

Its proclamation of identity,

“Look at my bold shade!”

Dwindle slowly,

Bit by bit,

Word by word,

Letter by cursed letter

That you write.

Write, so casually,

Giving no thought to its import,

How it sucks a drop

Of lifeblood from the pen.

You write and write,

Letting the words flow like

A tidal rush.

Pick it up,

Read it,

Let the passion

Possess your hands once again.

But this time, no pen

To channel the emotions.

You take the page,

Crumple it,

Rip it to shreds

With spite, anger,

Convinced if you destroy these words

They will cease to be.

And it will all be okay.

Here, on this page,

You’ve wasted so much

Of your pen.

Cut its life short even more.

But you,

You do not care.

However, you do expect

That which you know will be granted.

Surely, the silent, ready, willing devotion

Of your pen

To be your voice.

Why, what are you without your pen?

Merely a bubbling mass of

Jumbled thought and emotions,

As likely to fade

As the sun’s descent from the evening sky.

Anyhoo, I'll probably add a few others in due time. I liked this one, so I decided to suck it up and just post one :D Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the feedback guys ^^

that was one of my stranger poems.

Here's something a little on the shorter side.

"No More"

I look into your eyes—

Dark and wide

--no more.

I confide in you—

My most personal thoughts

--no more.

I find solace in you—

Our bond, so unique

--no more.

You say I understand you—

Nobody does like I do

--no more.

You love me—

A love so plentiful

words cannot describe

--no more.

I love you, still.

Always and forever.

Must suppress my pain.

Hopeless heart.

--no more.

heh, I've kinda got a bit of a stockpile from the last few months ^^'

here's a real shorty:

A Tribute—

I exult you.

Erect a pedestal in your honor.

A Testament to you.

That I must climb,

Forever

To reach the platform

On which to place you.

~~~~~
and another for the heck of it. this one came from a thing called "found poetry". you take a piece of prose, and pull out random words, then re-arrange them to make a poem. kinda fun. I think this came from an article about watermelons, lol. anyhoo, 'nuff rambling.
“Dark Glass”
The battlefield spans far and wide
Plans of preparation
Thorough maps laid out
Strategic gathering of troops
Efforts from long ago
Lost, now, in the moment that
Spans infinity, yet no time at all.
Our blades clash
The echo of steel on steel
Throbs through our bodies
The weapons hold strong.
Years, flying by
Life seems to stay the same,
But change holds a barring grip on all.
The look of dark glass
In your eye
Cuts smoothly
Our preconceived fate.
Hacks into shreds
Shattering the long-standing lineage.
Thus is the struggle
In our hearts.
Thanks for the continued feedback Yvonne, SJ, Glenda, & Renee. Your positive thoughts are encouraging! ^^
till next time!
I had the nicest explanations and everything typed out for these poems, and stupid ass IE ate my post, so now I'm pissed off. I'll edit in the explanations later, garrrgh.
This one's kinda old, and I don't really remember what was going on in my head at the time. *shrugs*
“Fear”
Chills run through my limbs
Fear returns
So familiar
Colder than a foreign world
I want a safe place
A hideaway
Somewhere fear cannot find me
If life were a series of snapshots
I’d order doubles of the goods
And rip to shreds the bads
The music flows through my body
My soul, but this moment I am immune.
Force myself to be a zombie
Will not feel
Will not think
Cannot fear
Soon I will sleep
The unconscious escape
Will my mind
Be faithful to my desires?
Or will it betray
And leave me
In the shadows of my soul?
~~~~~

I'm excited about this next poem 'cause it's brand-new, I finished it up a couple days ago. I took particular pains with line lengths/syllables and ryhme (something I normally have a habit to disregard), so alot of effort went into it. The qoute came from a teacher/mentor sort of figure. I took his words as solid truth at the time, I think because I admired him so much as a person. Anyway, one day it just kinda hit me, I never even doubted what he said, and I thought, "Well, maybe I should..." and then I started writing the poem =p

“Poetry Is Metaphor”

“Poetry is metaphor,” he told me.

Of course! All these years, why didn’t I see?

Every poem, now, I saw with different eyes.

“Pshh” – I scoffed. The literal world? Just lies.

I became something more, a cut above.

Earth was more than Earth, yes, deeper than love.

No need to revel in daily pleasures

I, a poet, denounced such plain measures.

Thus my declaration, my dropped gauntlet

I knew the real truths, and so did flaunt it.

And, from nowhere, upon me came a storm.

A lost soldier, without arms, without form

Not that crazy, merely me, hitting ground.

Alas, a feat so easy, so profound.

Sharp, iron-laden taste of my lips’ blood

Poise of a blossomed iris in my gaze

Simple things, all that they were.

All they would ever be,

And nothing more.

“Poetry is metaphor,” he once said.

I realize now, metaphors are long dead.

*kicks IE again before stalking off*

I absolutely adored "Poetry is a Metaphor". I loved it. I don't know what else to say about it. I just loved it! :)

I know I've been a lil' bit semi-MIA, semi-not for a while. A few things have happened that really make a person sit back and just try to figure it all out. And it's natural to try and sort things out, but it's also kinda futile, cause there are just some things that will never make sense...Anyways, I'll stop rambling for now, post a couple poems....

This one's a little older. right about a year ago, actually. One day I just heard someone say "he doesn't seem like the kind of person..." and I started thinking about that phrase, 'kind of person', and I got all pissed off and wrote this :p

“Lessons for Life”

Sunny, cloudy, rainy, stormy.

A chance of showers, a chance of thunderstorms

Lesson for life: Don’t forget your umbrella, just in case.

Low temperature about 63, high approaching the mid 90s.

What kind of weather shall you have today?

Appetizer, side dish, entrée, dessert.

Perhaps some pasta, perhaps a salad

Lesson for life: Don’t forget to always eat all of the five food groups.

Wholesome wheat toast to start, fruit medley to finish.

What kind of meal shall you eat today?

Infant, adolescent, teen, adult.

Possibly the artsy type, possibly a skeptic sort

Lesson for life: Don’t forget to be an individual, like everyone else.

(and please, don’t shock us *too* much)

Enjoy the fun of being a kid, live a full life as an adult.

What kind of person will you be today?

~~~~~~~
I actually just wrote this one today. I spent literally 5 hours straight talking to my ex yesterday, and I guess we really laid everything out on the table, finally setting up for the closure neither of us had really gotten in the months since we broke up. And although parts of this poem relate to her, but really, it's not a poem about/to/for her. Really, she just put me in the mental state to write this..(it was a long, heart-wrenching 5 hours lol...) on with the poem-age.
“If You Were a Guy”
If you were a guy
I’d fling myself into your strong embrace
Beat at your chest to help the time pass by
Hopelessly void of a movie’s majestic grace.
If you were a guy
Would I love you still so unwaveringly?
This love for you, with me until I die
So much more than gender, sexuality.
If you were a guy
Maybe you’d love me then.
If you were a guy
Guys don’t care, they’re real men.
I don’t really wish you were a guy
Maybe if you were someone that rough
I could give you my all again
And maybe,
Maybe then, it would have been enough.
So yeah, it's really easy to write that off as appearing to be for her, but I never thought quite like that. it was just kinda an idea that popped in my head, and in parts I drew from our relationship to add to it. gah, stupid blurring of truth and fiction. Anyways, enjoy. :P
thanks for all of the lovely feedback Yvonne, SJ, Stace, and barnabasvamp. Your encouragement is very heartening ^^
I've recently gotten a new computer [whoo], so until I get some files transferred over, or re-type them, I don't have any poem-stock to post [not so whoo].
But I *have* started reworking an old story that, I think, has alot of potential, but needs ALOT of revision lol. so maybe once I kick my lazy bum into gear, I'll get it posted up here. whoo, something a little different :party
so here's the new stuff. I got hit smack in the forehead several times with some inspiration at work lol...so I started writing and kinda just kept going. anyway, it's on my LJ and I don't feel like double posting so...
it's the most recent entry (as of this post)...but it's the longest by far. the first couple paragraphs are me ranting about daily mundane stuff, but the part I was pointing out is just after I mention Oscar...I really felt like working on it more when I wrote it, but understand it was really continual-flow free write kinda stuff. I really feel good cause I just *enjoyed* writing it so much. anyways, enough blabbering.
here it is....
EDIT: lol, look ma, I can link directly to the entry in question! :p
