Poem

Postby LadyBrymstone » Sat Apr 12, 2003 11:35 pm

Ok...'scuse my nervousness...I've never really posted non-fic before. But, I figured, what the heck. Enjoy.

"Taking a Look..."

The reflection in the glass, all that I despise

Those eyes stare back, revealing my lies.

The rationalizations, the living in fear

The bastardized prayer to not live another year.

The reflection in the glass, all that I hate

My throat constricted by the crushing weight.

The weight of complacency, dense and vast

My brain and my actions, mired in the past.

The reflection in the glass, all stoic and staid

Revealing nothing, cold and afraid.

The confusion and emptiness, all too much

Unworthiness rearing, I recoil from touch.

The reflection in the glass, looks at me with derision

Stuck in this prison, 'till I make a decision.

But it resigns itself to its ugly fate

Knowing quite well I will sit and wait.

For moving forward is not a trait of the meek

Change will not come for the self-pitying weak.

Medicine, law, banking – these are necessary to sustain life. But poetry, romance. love, beauty? These are what we stay alive for!

Thank you all for the kind words. My poems are usually few and far between, and only seem to emerge when I'm in a bad place. I've got a couple others written, but I haven't decided to post them.

Aww, thanks for the rose, Mickie. LOL.

No space is sacred, time it cannot heal. This frail unforgiving, relentless, defenseless invasion of fear.

I hide in the sand, but the voices get louder. I do what I can, as the sea overpowers.
