It took me a while to decide to post here. I think I'll give it a try though. The first poem I'll post was an assignment for my creative writing class from last semester. It had to be about an everyday object. I chose a clock.

The Clock

The clock

ticks away time.

Seconds, minutes, hours

adding up in an infinite space.

The clock

tells us

when to come, go, be.

The clock

controls;

starting life,

ending life,

running life.

I was born,

though I didn’t ask to be,

and I will die

when my time comes.

In between

my birth and death,

I follow when and where

the clock tells me:

a class at nine,

dinner at six,

a meeting at twelve.

It never ends.

I know

what the clock does,

yet I can’t

do anything to stop

the time flying by.

Taking out the battery won’t help.

I love Weezer more than you know. I got drunk before the show and stage dived over the second row. Everyone thought I was dead. But I was still alive, and I was really proud inside. My parents couldn't understand. My family was by band.

Thanks for the feedback, SJ. I think I'll post another one. I wrote this after driving through monsoon-esque weather in the last town I lived in. It's appropriately titled for the road.

Green River In The Rain

Four lanes wide

Back to back.

We can’t move with everything

Frozen in time.

Horns blaring

Burst my ears.

The blood trickles

Down my neck.

I can’t hear you with

The rain and noise and blood

In my head.

Where are we trying to go?

Will it be better

When we get there?

We can’t even see

Through the windshield.

Do you think we’ll make it?

Sirens in the background

Coming closer slowly.

They can’t get through this so

How will we?

Maybe if everyone would

Just stop and think rationally

We could all move on.

It might be slow going but

At least everyone would

Get out of this alive.

I don't want to go to summer camp. I don't want to be a certain way. Sitting in the nurse's office. Thinking about coming home today. I'd rather write stories of people who sin. All the lives of decadence! Can you believe the future of a boy who only grew to find there's nothing left?

:clap Two lovely poems, thoroughly enjoyed the way you wrote about the subject matters - clock and weather. Very interesting and refreshing point of view. Keep up the great work!

My whole life I've loved only one person, that person was you.

A bravo to you!!! Two amazing poems. The first one made me go back and read it again. Strong point. Same as the second, strong and feelings. Great stuff. You have any more??? =)

SJ - Thanks.

onyxsundrops - Monsoon-type weather sucks. Thanks for the feedback.

kresent - I'm glad you liked it.

intricate mirage - It's fun when normal, everyday things can be changed into something different that maybe you didn't think of before. Thanks.

TaraBaby77 - Yeah, I have a few more. Most of them are pretty hokey and products of boredom during class. I'll post them eventually though just for the fun of it. I'm sure everyone would enjoy the laughs.

So I'll post again. This one was written about a year ago and it's about this kid who sat in front of me during my Anthropology 101 class. He was emo to the max. As usual, I wasn't paying attention to the lecture (because the prof was probably just talking about the fascinating digs she did in California for the umpteenth time), so I stared at the kid in front of me and tried to figure him out. I probably did a bad job, but I don't care. This just sort of embodies all the emo boys out there. They should cheer up a bit.

Cheer Up Emo Boy

You’ve got your

Horn-rimmed glasses and

Weezer sweater with

Cons donning your feet, and

Your greased black hair

Shines in the stage lights.

It looks like I could use it

To lube my car.

You sing of lost loves and

Broken hearts, and

Your angst

Pours off in waves.

If I gave you a hug

Would it make

Things all better, or

Would it just remind you of

That girl you used to date?

Just cheer up emo boy.

Life could be

So much worse.

Maybe smile

Once in a while;

It might do you some good.

I miss the warmth of the summer when we were on our own, but now it's winter and my bones are cold.

TaraBaby77 - Thanks, Aaron. I'm glad you liked it. :)

SJ - Thanks.

intricate mirage - Thanks for reading.

pacou - Every day things are the best things to write about. They seem so mundane because they're there all the time, but they can be fun too. Good to know you liked the poetry so far.

I'm going to post another poem that I wrote for a class. We had to write a sonnet. I'm not sure if I did it right, but I got an A on it. That's all that really matters, right? Yeah, I think so. I'll let it be known right now that when it comes to poetry, I hate rhyming. Song lyrics can rhyme, but poetry isn't a rhyming thing for me. Obviously with a sonnet though, there's a specific rhyme scheme... or something to that effect. Apparently I didn't learn too much in that class. Anyway, I hope somebody out there likes this. It's sort of 'blah' in my opinion. Oh well.

Untitled Sonnet

In time my watchful eyes drew shut in sleep,

No longer could they wait to see you home,

Night stretched on and in my mind dreams did seep

And fears displayed the beasts of night that roam,

I tossed and turned these fears around my head,

My body restless as my brain spun too,

If you were only right here safe in bed

I’d have no need for sweating over you

You could be lost with cold and frozen breath,

Or in a ditch with broken limbs no less

Robbed blind and beaten very near your death

What’s happened to you I can only guess,

A turning knob jars me awake once more,

My fears put at bay with the closing door

Excuse the bitchin'. I shouldn't complain. I should have no feeling, 'cause feeling is pain. As everything I need is denied me, and everything I want is taken away from me. But who do I got to blame? Nobody but me.

RaiStarr and SJ, thanks for the feedback. I have another one. It's about my roomate from sophomore year of college. She's one of my best friends, and she's pretty weird (in the good way, though). If anyone's reading my fic on Pens, you'll recognize her as Kim. We don't live together anymore since I transferred schools, but we keep in touch on a pretty regular basis. I still miss her though. Here it is.

Jarrett Lane

I met this girl

Two doors down on Jarrett Lane.

She was hyped up on diet pills and cigarettes

Listening to New Kids cassettes.

It could have been the ephedrine or

This weeks new hair dye, but

Something seeped too far into that skull.

But we hit it off

From the start with our bad taste

In clothes and

Our search for the unknown band.

We had crazy times

Dick Blick’n it to Yen Ching for

Crab Rangoon and lo mein

(That’s crab without the ‘k’

by the way)

With a year almost gone

We found that unknown band and

We found ourselves, but

The band’s not unknown anymore and

Everyone wants a piece of us too.

We’ll leave Jarrett Lane but

We won’t forget

On our separate paths.

We’ll meet again some day and

Pick up where we left off.

It's okay to be angry and never let go. It only gets harder the more that you know. When you get lonely if no one's around you know that I'll catch you when you're falling down. We came together but you left alone, and I know how it feels to walk out on your own. Maybe someday I will see you again, and you'll look me in my eyes and call me your friend

Excellent! A great homage to the people in our lives who leave their mark on us strong enough and deep enough that they are still imprinted upon us long after the special times together have past.
