A fresh, new board – how exciting. Just coming by to add my little bit. :)

One of my current hobbies is fractal art. In case you haven’t heard of fractal art before, it’s simply an art form that uses mathematical formulas to create beautiful and complex designs. Fractal art is usually created with fractal software, which displays the mathematical formulas and lets you navigate, color, and manipulate the design.

The images in my fractal gallery were created with Photoshop and KPT FraxPlorer, although I’m currently in the process of switching to Ultra Fractal as my main fractal generator. I hope you enjoy looking at the gallery. :)

Scout, these are really beautiful! What an interesting hobby. I've always been fascinated by fractals and fractal art; it must be part of being a math/science geek. :wink I especially like "Spiderweb" and "Diamonds" - those are great.

Scout These are wonderful. I especially liked the one "Spiderweb", the grey fine lines contrasting beautifully with the darker blue.

Man, this brings back memories... do you remember a shareware program called Fractint, Scout? I had quite a bit of fun with that one back in high school, when a complex piece would take around 5-10 minutes to render.

Your stuff is far superior to those days, though. Just lovely.

Those are some really beutiful pictures.

I used to experiment with fractals a few years ago. Am I right in thinking that they're Julia Sets?

Thanks to everyone for their wonderful comments. I’ve only had a few chances to share my fractals, so this was nice. And I'll also say that Spiderweb has been one of my favorites, as well. :)

To answer a couple questions:

Kalita: Yes, I've heard of Fractint. Amazingly enough, folks are still updating it. I think they’re on version 20 now! And yes, rendering on today’s computers is so much easier. I recently upgraded laptops going from a 333MHz to a 1.8GHz processor, and that really put some pep into the process. And thank you. :)

Justin: Yes, if memory serves, a lot of the gallery images were created from Julia sets. I’m glad you enjoyed them. :)

Thanks again, all.

Wow, those are awesome. I'd never heard of fractal art before, but if all if it is like yours, then it must be a pretty amazing form of art. Thanks for posting a link to those! I'd have to say that "Freefall" is my favorite, followed closely the Spiderweb one. Good job. :applause

These are really beautiful. In Spiderweb, the prominent mainline with thin, delicate branchings reminds me of the internal structure found in some leaves. Makes me want to go tend to my garden.

I have always enjoyed fractals. I even use a screensaver that will randomly generate fractals within the parameters you set. I am often amazed at just how beautiful they can be.Thanks for sharing your artwork.

These are pretty damned cool, y'know. My favourite is the Archangel, although the Spiderweb is brilliant too. Make some more! Please the kittens!
