Cat's Closet - Just a few little odds and ends to share

Postby FemaleOfTheSpecies » Fri May 26, 2006 12:50 pm

Oh, this is giving me palpitations - just thought I might share the odd drawing.....

This particular one was done *cough* 18 years ago now - I was 17 at the time. I wonder if you can recognise who it is?

Honest feedback would be very welcome :)

Thank you!

It's either Marilyn (spelling?) Monroe or Cruella Deville.:lol those would be my guesses, anyway.

I'll be right back with some feedbacky goodness.

I love it. I love the lines, and the classic feel it embodies. I love the fact that you used pointillism for shading, it makes it very unique, because that’s not something you see a lot of outside of landscape designs. I love it though, it gives the piece a very classy feel. Artsy, posh, and very stylized. I like it a lot. I hope you share more of your work with us.

ETA: This piece also reminds me of something one might see from someone coming out of an art class at the University.

Yep, it's Marilyn. Taken from a photograph on the day she announced her divorce from Joe DiMaggio.

Thank you, Emms, for your kind feedback - it's always kind of scary sharing anything creative - particularly so with my artwork as I failed my Art exams at school and basically have hardly drawn since - that was at the age of 18. But I yearn to draw again, just don't have the confidence anymore.

Oh, sweetie...you really should continue. You have a great talent here. And if you haven't drawn anything since, you might be surprised to find how much your style has changed since this was made. It will be interesting to see your progression.

And please don't feel nervous to share things, we're hardly ever mean. :lol we're all friends, here.

That is a brilliant picture. I liked the technique you've used. It's a very professional looking piece.

Based on this I hope you do take up drawing again.

Another picture - again I did this when I was 17. It's a little rough (okay a lot rough) around the edges.

Thank you Barb, it's so nice to get feedback on these, I find it so hard to be objective about my own work.

Wow that's a great picture. The shading is very good.

Am I right in thinking it's Billy Idol?

Awesome drawings, Cat.

I agree with Emms. Talent doesn't run out. If you're yearning to draw, go for it. I'd also like to see how much your style has changed since then.

hey cat (may i call you that?) those are some great drawings! i easily recognized marilyn... i didn't recognize the second one (not your fault though... i think that's a superb drawing) only because i'm not familiar with billy joel.

so those are made 18 years ago? wow! i'm sure you have vastly improved since then... and i would love to see them all!

fabulous drawings cat! and i so understand how scary it is to hit the submit button when posting a new drawing.... i've been posting my own drawings for a while now, but i still get nervous.

more soon please!

I like this latest one (Billy Idol?) It's very "Rock Magazine-esque "...almost "poster-ish" (that's not even a word, I know.. hehe)

I must say though, I would have liked to see more of a contrast in the posted draft. Right now it's just kinda grey and I don't get that "pop" that's supposed to happen with this type of technique. (IMO)

I really enjoy your work and I can't wait for the next one.

xoxo
