I'm still watching. I won't see Random Shoes until tomorrow night but with the exception of Cyberwoman (Jack would not behave like that. He just wouldn't! :miff ) I'm really enjoying it.

Hopefully it won't be long before we find out if there's going to be a second series, but it's looking good.

I have had trouble downloading it. So until I can figure that out, I am out of the loop on this one.

I just got a new router/firewall and it blocks the port my bittorrent program uses.

I need to figure out how to either by-pass it, work through it or what.

Thanks!

Ew. That's not good.

The USEnet has episodes posted in alt.binaries.drwho, alt.binaries.multimedia.scifi, and many others. However, unless you have a very good USEnet server, you'll only be able to get the most recent episode or two by now.

Meanwhile, the latest news on Torchwood today is that it's beating its biggest competition in its timeslot - Lost!

Also, there are reports that BBC2 and BBC3 are fighting over the first-run rights to Season 2, even though Season 2 hasn't even been announced yet. I think that's a pretty good sign.

Edited to add: Season 2 is now confirmed, and it will be on BBC2. Details here.

Yes, 13 this season. Episode 11 is this weekend, and then the final 2 will be shown back-to-back next weekend.

Shooting on Season 2 begins in the spring.

The final two episodes were excellent, the last episode straying a little too far into Doctor Who territory I think which seemed out of place in Torchwood, but I loved the emotional ending to both episodes. :-D

I just realised that the most realistic male same sex kisses outside gay movies and TV shows have been on Doctor Who, Torchwood and the DW spin-off PROBE videos. Now I understand the Doctor Who/gay connection. :lol

I liked "Captain Jack Harkness" - I did think the dance and kiss at the end were somewhat over-the-top and completely out of character for a 1940s military officer, but it didn't bother me too much. That's just TV for you. :p

On the other hand, "End of Days" was a disappointment. Our heroes were too dysfunctional and too easily manipulated. The big monster looked too much like the monster from "The Satan Pit," and was too easily defeated.

Even so, the first season as a whole was a good trip. I'm still looking forward to next year.

I watched the first two episodes last night and I am really digging this.

There is a cool X-file vibe to it that I like. Plus is looks like they are going to try to make up for 40-years of "no sex in the TARDIS" in a few episodes. ;)

I was so pleased to see Indira Varma in this too. She is great. And then... ah well.

Looking forward to more.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. I think some of the later episodes in particular are excellent

Spoiler:
Suzi - well they keep trying to kill her! This is one of my favourite episodes

Outpost Gallifrey reports that James Marsters (aka Spike) has been signed for a guest appearance on Torchwood.

Now, I have two questions -

#1 - Will he use his real American accent or his fake British one?
#2 - Who is he more likely to smooch, Gwen or Jack? :lol

He's also doing a concert in Cardiff on July 21.

More on James Marsters. You'll recall that I previously asked:

Well, SciFi Wire reports that it'll be Jack. Like that was really in doubt... Apparently, the scene is rather intense, too. I'm not even going to repeat one thing the article says about it.

Not until early 2008, I believe. The next thing we get from the Doctor Who universe is The Sarah Jane Adventures, sometime in the fall.

Hey, get this! Torchwood, like Doctor Who, is mostly filmed in and around my home town of Cardiff and my daughter was just asked to be an extra in the new series. She was sitting in a bar with a friend when one of the producers came in looking for people to be in the background of a shoot they were doing just outside. She's not a fan herself, but knew it would drive me nuts cos I am, so they leapt up and got to be in Torchwood! Now we're waiting for the new series to come out to see if we can see them on the tele!
PS: I've been a fan of Doctor Who all my life, but my niece also got asked to play a lady scientist in one of the episodes last Christmas. She was working for the BBC in Cardiff and was asked if she was interested in being an extra.
It's just not fair.... :happy

The new season of Torchwood premieres on BBC America January 26. Since I can't imagine the BBC letting us folks in the US see it first, I take this to mean it will premiere in the UK sometime before then.

Check your local listings.

Plenty more Torchwood news in the official BBC Season 2 press release.

It seems they're going to do a "kid friendly" edited version of the show for a "pre-watershed repeat," whatever that means.

And there's lots of new information on James Marsters as "Captain John."
Torchwood, the award-winning drama created by Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies, bursts back on our screens in mid-January 2008, this time premiering on BBC Two.

And this time it's bigger and bolder with more fun, adventure and excitement for the alien-fighting team...

Captain Jack Harness (John Barrowman), Gwen (Eve Myles), Owen (Burn Gorman), Toshiko (Naoko Mori) and Ianto (Gareth Lloyd-Davies) return as the investigators delving into the alien underworld of modern day Cardiff.

In response to audience demand, younger fans will now have the opportunity of watching a specially edited pre-watershed repeat.

Roly Keating, Controller BBC Two, says: "We're delighted that Torchwood is joining BBC Two.

"We know from the success and popularity of Heroes that there's a growing appetite for smart, high-quality, sci-fi drama on the channel so Torchwood is a perfect fit.

"I'm also pleased to announce that, due to popular demand from families and younger viewers, we will be showing a special pre-watershed repeat so everyone can enjoy the new series."

Making a special guest appearance in the first episode is James Marsters as Captain John. He starred as Spike, the punk-goth vampire in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel.

Captain John and Captain Jack go way back and have "history".

When he appears through the Rift under Cardiff looking for Captain Jack not only does he disrupt Captain Jack's homecoming but the whole team, city and world are suddenly placed in danger.

The new series promises an exhilarating mixture of adventure, heartbreak, humour and surprise and pushes the team's resolve and friendships as never before.

Firmly rooted in urban life of 21st century Cardiff, Torchwood's investigations into alien activity give the team glimpses of the 51st Century and the First World War.

They encounter alien sleeper cells; save a stranded creature from human exploitation; meet a tragic soldier from the First World War; and encounter a memory thief who exposes long-forgotten secrets among the entire team.

During the run Alan Dale (Ugly Betty, The O.C, Lost and The West Wing) makes a star appearance.

Another familiar face among the special guest stars is Doctor Who's companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman) who appears half way through the series.

Richard Briers, Nerys Hughes and Ruth Jones (Gavin And Stacey) also appear in various roles.

Russell T Davies says: "This series pushes the Torchwood team further than ever before. They are joined by some incredible guest stars who are really going to cause waves. It's adventurous, thrilling and packed full of surprises."

Torchwood, which was shot in HD and will also be shown on the BBC HD channel, is filmed in and around Cardiff by BBC Wales.

BBC Wales Controller Menna Richards says: "The first series of Torchwood was a huge hit with audiences. We're extremely proud that it's produced in Wales. And its success is a reflection of the huge wealth of talent and creativity that exists here. We're delighted that it's returning to our screens for another series full of action, humour and excitement."

The 13-part series is written by Chris Chibnall, Phil Ford, Peter J Hammond, Matt Jones, Joseph Lidster, James Moran, Helen Raynor, Catherine Tregenna and JC Wilsher. Created by Davies, with Chris Chibnall as co-producer and lead writer, the first series which aired on BBC Three last year achieved the channel's highest ratings in 2006, with an audience of 2.5 million for the first episode, and peaking at 2.8 million.

There will be a new exciting online reality game and exclusive behind the scenes footage on bbc.co.uk/torchwood.

Torchwood is executive produced by Russell T Davies and Julie Gardner, Head of Drama, BBC Wales. The producer is Richard Stokes.
Oh, how I've missed snarky Spike - oops, wrong show ;)

I loved it. Much slicker than S1, lots of one-liners and it made me laugh out loud several times. No sex, not too much violence, bit of swearing, m/m kissin' - maybe Torchwood's finally grown up after all. :D

Great trailer for the series at the end as well.

I heard they're supposed to have a "family friendly" version sometime during the week, too. Does that come later?

What bothered me most about the Torchwood team in the first season was that they were so dysfunctional. I kept thinking, "If these are the guys with the safety of the world in their hands, we're all in a lot of trouble." :p Are they any better now?

The cut-downs start next week. Apparently they're just taking out sex and gore, possibly some of the language. I imagine they'll leave this week's "bloody Torchwood". :D

They do seem to be working better together. Gwen's been leading the team while Jack's been away and Ianto has been out doing more things. Hopefully that'll carry on now Jack's back. I think he was really underused (as was Tosh) last year.

To The Last Man was (finally!) a Tosh-centric episode...and it was lovely. It's possibly my favourite Torchwood episode so far. I've cried before but this one actually made me sob :blush

It was written by Helen Raynor - Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks - so it proves she can write a good tale :)
