The Island

Okay....hi *waves*

I just saw The Island tonight, and loved it. The plot was interesting, and really gripping (and kinda scary to think "could this be something thats going to happen?"). And there was also the benifit of Scarlet Johansson (who was REALLY good in this movie and was absolutely gorgeous...as ever).

I wont say much on the plot or anything for now, but I was just wandering: what did everyone else think of this movie? A lot of reviewers and such sunk it, and quite a few people I've talked to severely disliked it...yet, I loved it. 9/10-I wanna see it again, and I definitly recommend people see it.

So, what were your thoughts on this movie?

I have not seen it but I probably will get the DVD because I find the previews I saw and Scarlet Johansson interesting enough to watch it.

You should definitly see it. It's centered round such a controversial issue, and, well...as said....its got Scarlett Johansson. Teehee.

I think you'll like it-let me know what you think of it when you do see it...

I sure will, but it will probably be a while if I wait for the DVD to come out. Although I may reconsider and go see it in the cinema first.

I can't see this movie on principle, and not the one most people would think of. This movie was already made... in the late 70's. It was called "The Clonus Horror." Here's the link to the imdb.com page.

I'm sure there are differences between the two films, and I don't have any problems with seeing remakes or re-imaginations of films... but when it's a blatant rip-off of another film (nearly point for point of the plot) and no credit or mention of the original film is mentioned, it really really bugs me.

G'day all,

Just got back from watching The Island, and I quite liked it. Though I like just about everything I watch and I go to the movies just about every weekend, so maybe that's not saying much.

Still, plenty of explosions and chase scenes for the testosterone endowed ( such as myself ), an interesting concept and a story that wasn't written by a mentally challenged lack-wit. In my opinion anyway. Plus, I'm not going to complain about looking at Scarlett Johansson.

On a side note, SySnootles said this was a rip-off of the 'The Clonus Horror', but then how much of what comes out of Holllywood isn't at least partially ripped off from somewhere? I just kick back and enjoy it on its own merits.

Bye,
Paul.

Hey, Paul. Glad to hear you liked it, too:D I, also, go to the movies a lot, but there seems to be so much....crap?...coming out of late, IMO, and so finding myself liking this was a big yay! on my part. The chase scenes were awesome, I must agree....lotsa bangs and explosions and cars going 'smash'...And I actually thought the movie had some pretty cool one liners...might quote some later, but don't really wanna give too much away to those who are yet to see it.

but then how much of what comes out of Holllywood isn't at least partially ripped off from somewhere

So true. Gotta agree with you there....but also, I get what you're saying, SySnootles...if they took the whole plot, and didn't even say it was a remake, it's kinda a cheap shot on their part. I just sit back and enjoy the movies, though...is it true they're getting sued over it?

I looooved The Island!! The visuals were stunning, the action packing and Ewan McGregor is great as the lead. Granted, I only went to see this after I found out that it was not Tara Reid on the movie poster (can't stand that girl!), but indeed the very lovely Scarlett Johannson. Her hair's a little blonder than I usually like, but DAMN, she is just one hot mama yama. I'll definitely be buying this one on DVD seeing as I'm currently collecting everything Scarlett :x.

I can't really make any comment on the "rippin'-off-issue". I think that's something the writers should work out between themselves (or court in this case :p). I'm just a sucker who likes this movie.
