D.E.B.S.

I didn't see a thread for this, but I'm very excited about the release of this. According to reports from the Sidewalk Film Festival, it's due out in early '05. I've seen the short on Planet Out, and most who saw it at Sundance and Sidewalk say it doesn't stray from the original too much, even in regards to the lesbian characters (which many were concerned about wheh they learned that it was to be made into a full-length feature film).

Anyone interested in more info can find it here and here.

I'm pretty psyched about Jordanna Brewster.

Sorry if this is already posted elsewhere.

I absolutely loved the short version. I really really feel that Clare Kramer was so brilliant that I have a hard time believing the full lenght movie can rival the original. I hope it does though, I don´t know anyone of this cast, so I am not sure what to expect.

Oh yeah, the original with Clare is really good. She was so awesome in that :heart

Here's the original. Since getting broadband I tried to find a better quality one, but no such luck :(

Yeah, I had really hoped that at least some of the original cast would be in it, specifically Clare Kramer cause she was so incredibly hot as Lucy in the Sky. Unfortunately the only one to return is Jill Ritchie as Janet. It is a relatively unknown cast save for a couple of people (two of the actresses are from the Fast and Furious duo), but I kinda like seeing lesser-known actors get a shot. I hope the release makes it to at least a few major theaters...namely, AMC since it's in my area. :p

I saw the full length version at this year's Times London Film Festival and really enjoyed it. The short was good, but it was much better seeing it on the big screen with a few more fleshed out ideas and a great soundtrack. I thought the guy who played Lucy's henchman Scud was one of the best things in it, but then again I do like a bit of sarcasm from supporting characters :laugh It's worth a watch if you can get the chance to catch a screening, I found most of it hilarious and as for the girls in uniform.... Well let's just say I had a smile on my face as I left the cinema.

I'm so excited for it to come out. I watched the music video on the DEBS website and loved it. They showed random clips of Lucy and Amy together...great stuff!

But I'm upset cause I won't be able to see it in theaters...cause when they say 'select cities' they don't mean Virginia Beach...so I just hope it gets onto DVD REALLY quick.

Thanks for that link Warduke. I have now watched the music video at least 10 times. The song sucks, but the scenes are great, and I like the fact that most of the scenes are interactions between Lucy and Amy. I'm so excited about this release. From the trailer, it looks like the feature will stay relatively close to the short in terms storyline. It also actually looks like it'll be funny.

Hoo boy!!! I was able by sheer luck to tape the original short a couple of months ago on the Sundance Channel. Now the feature version opens March 25, which is my birthday. It better be opening in at least ONE theater in the Atlanta area, or I'm really gonna be bummed big time.

Oooohhh, Jordana Brewster....not too shabby...:drool :thud

I NEED to see this movie or I'm going to CRY. Unfortunatly, I'm probably going to have to wait a bit, because I live in the middle of nowhere (aka: VERMONT) and the only remotely independant/artsy theatre we have is small and doesn't get releases until way after their original date. It might actually be FASTER for me to just buy the DVD. >.< Anyone know when that's coming out?

Oh, and for anyone interested, there's a lovely music video for the movie over here (quicktime format): www.lakeshore-records.com...video.html

I haven't wanted to see a movie this badly in awhile. The whole thing looks very funny and very cute.

Sigh. Sony has now posted the theatre info. Basicially it is coming out in: CA, GA, IL, NY, VA, and DC.

So for now, I'm SOL.

My best hope is either DVD or um, an 'advanced' copy, seems like.

Unfortunately, that Ifilms site's extra links are not functioning. Too bad, cause I was excited about them. However, after revisiting the lakeshore Records site, I saw that there's a new music video for the movie, an MTV version that has a different scene in it from the original video. FYI.

Nice clips on the MTV site! I hadn't seen a couple of those.

It opens here in Toronto tomorrow, so I'll probably check it out this weekend. There is an article with a pic about Sara Foster in today's Globe and Mail where she talks about her role in the film, http://www.globeandmail.com

Whee! Thanks mariacomet. Those clips are awesome. I was getting a little worried, what with all the bad reviews that are out there about the movie even before it's come out, but the more clips I see, the more I'm convinced that I'll enjoy it. Jordanna Brewster said in an interview that she hoped the movie would have a cult following. I don't think she has to worry about that. :wink

D.E.B.S Quotes and Reviews

Postby mariacomet » Thu Mar 24, 2005 7:12 pm

Found a quote at IMDB I wanted to pass along:

[Amy fails to unhook Lucy's bra properly during their make out-session]

Lucy: Did you just snap my bra?

Amy: I was trying to be smooth!

***edited to add.... Hey, I found soundbytes. Because when you want to see a movie that you can't see as badly as I want to see this one....you compulsively search Google:

Reading the production notes is kinda cool too:

Here's my favorite bit from the notes:

Although she has plenty going for her, Foster’s character Amy is unsure of where her life is leading her. She has just dumped her boyfriend, Bobby (GEOFF STULTS) and is trying to find meaning in her life beyond surveillance work and lip gloss. Foster agrees Amy is somewhat perplexed by what’s going on around her.

“Everything’s happened so quickly for Amy,” she says. “All of a sudden she’s part of this top secret group, and she’s trying to figure out how she got there and what exactly it means.” It’s when she meets villainess Lucy Diamond (Brewster) that her life gets a meaning she never imagined in her wildest dreams.

Foster sees the film as a sort of coming-of-age story. “It’s a story about a girl who finds herself in this crazy position,” she says. “A girl who carries a gun and has to go through all this craziness to realize who she is, what makes her happy and what she wants.”

I have seen lukewarm reviews too, BD. However, one of my favorite lesbian films of all time, 'But I'm a cheerleader' got lukewarm reviews too. Judging by the clips and summaries I have seen, I think I'll love it.

That quote makes me giggle. Lots.

BIAC is one of my favorites too... and D.E.B.S. has actually gotten BETTER reviews on rottontomatoes.com that it did. And I don't trust critics very much... most every interview I've seen by just regular people (message boards, various websites, etc.) seemed very positive.

I really really hope they open it here at the Roxy (our local artsy/independant theater) at some point.

I may just have to take the 3-hour trip to DC just to watch the movie.

I might get to see it on Sunday! I found out it's playing at a theater in Montreal, which is only two hours from where I live (faster, if I'm the one driving :p ). Actually, mariacomet, I was going to go to the 11:30am show, but overslept, so I had lunch with gf (who was between 2 previously scheduled doctor appointments or I would have DRAGGED her to the flick), then went to the 2:15pm show. I think there were 3 of us in the D.E.B.S. section of the multiplex, the other 2 were a male and female sitting together.

Ok. My impressions of the film:

I LOVED IT!!!! It's never going to win an Academy Award or anything, but it was cute, silly, funny, had great music, it didn't take itself too seriously, great cast (I've read rumors that Holland Taylor is lesbian in real life), and Jordana Brewster and Sara Foster were the cutest couple since Willow/Tara (even though no one will ever replace W/T in my heart).

Jordana Brewster is positively gorgeous ( :drool :thud ) and if she doesn't become more of a lesbian icon I'll be quite surprised. I've seen her in 3 previous films, and knew she could act, but hubba hubba, the woman is soooo HOT!!!!Sara Foster is a good match for her. She reminded of a much taller Amber/Tara, and had some of the same facial mannerisms, IMO.

I have seen the D.E.B.S short, and I think this is a good expansion of the original.

If you are really interested in seeing the film, don't be put off by any of the less than stellar reviews. Just go for yourself and enjoy.

I know I'll buy the DVD when it comes out.

I'm hoping other kittens will like it half as much as I did.(Of course, the fact that they were kind enough to release it on my birthday was an added plus! :grin )

I'm hoping "the other" Atlanta kitten I know of will chime in later this evening with a report. (You know who you are! :bigwave ).

Oh, yes. No one dies.

PS, there were quite a few "romantic glances" and nice amount of kissage also!!!!

Edited to bump.

Has anyone else seen this film today??? Hello??? Hello??? Is anyone there????

Re: D.E.B.S.

Just got back from seeing it not once, but twice. Went to the 4:55 right after work to see it alone, and then saw the 7:10 with my friends. It...was...awesome!

To echo emma's sentiments: Jordana Brewster is a Goddess. A straight up Goddess. She is so unbelievably sexy...and she and Sara Foster do make good chemistry on-screen. BTW, emma, I'm so glad you mentioned the similarity between Sara Foster's facial expressions and Amber Benson's as Tara, cause that was running through my mind the entire movie.

Anyway, it was funny and witty. The acting on some sides wasn't spectacular, but the laughs were there, and when it got serious (i.e. the characters of Amy and Lucy talking about their relationship and life in general), it was very well-done. It never felt out of place. Mind you, there were a few :wtf moments, but they were funny and entertaining as opposed to "This sucks".

Overall, I loved it. I'm going to see it yet again tomorrow afternoon. The soundtrack is as good as mine, because it kicks ass! (There's a fantastic scene where Lucy is lipsynching to Erasure; again, a :wtf moment, but so good). When the dvd comes out in June, I'm all over it.

And Jordana Brewster is my new Hollywood wife. Sorry Angelina. :smug

And a big Happy Birthday to emma! What a great gift for yourself! :clap
