Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical

This movie was awesome. I haven't seen the original propaganda film except for some clips, but, that's okay.

Kristen Bell is outstanding as Mary Lane. Her singing voice changes as the character evolves and she's just wonderful. And really pretty hot as a dominatrix.

Plus, it's funny and the songs aren't bad either.

Christian Campbell, Neve Campbell, Alan Cumming and Ana Gasteyer also star. Really a great cast.

Kathy told me about this, since Kristen Bell was in it, I had to see it. I was expecting to only like the parts with Kristen, but it was actually a good movie. Very funny. Alan Cumming is a trip :lol

Reefer Madness is amazing. I would love to see the Broadway/Off-Broadway version of it. I've watched the musical movie version about every other day since it came out on Showtime, ha. You might think that's a little much, but, really, it's not.

The original propaganda film is available on Showtime On Demand, as well as the movie musical if anyone's interested.

Christian Campbell and Neve Campbell in one movie is very cute, and then Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) is amazing. As is, obviously, Alan Cumming.

Does anyone have any favorite songs from the movie?

I really like Romeo and Juliet, and Listen to Jesus, Jimmy.

Am in total agreement that "Reefer Madness" is great, and Kristin Bell is amazing. Her dominatrix bits were fabulous, as was her girl-down-the-street performance. Have always been a fan of Alan Cumming, almost to the point that I would have been surprised if he was not delightful.

Watched it with a group of friends, amid echoes of "Why isn't this on my iPod right now?" Yet another reason I need Showtime. Of course, the fact that I don't have cable might hinder the process. Sigh.

Something I particularly liked: the film did a great job portraying the ineffective aspect of the "war on drugs" while not sanctioning the unhindered use of drugs. I felt it had a good balance of the moralistic (unrealistic, if you ask me) message educators try to use to sway teens from the "evils" of drugs. I have seen the original film, and I feel they maintained the original theme, that drugs are sometimes bad, and still made a great parody of the anti-drug message that has never worked on teens. The film seemed like one big wink at the audience.
Me: When I go to the gym, I like to listen to techno music. But this other friend likes to listen to Morrissey. And then everyone wonders why there's this guy crying on the eliptical.
My sister: Well the real question is, why does he bother working out when no one will ever love him?

Random trivia: On the just-released DVD commentary for this movie, they mention that the main "drug house" and backyard were shot on the same sets as Bette & Tina's house and the infamous swimming pool from The L Word.
