Peter Jackson's King Kong

Postby Gatito Grande » Mon Dec 19, 2005 9:50 pm

Kinda surprised there isn't a thread for this by now---

I liked it a lot. Yeah, there was a lot of backstory getting to Skull Island (though I really loved PJ's vision of Depression-era NYC). I didn't really care for Jack Black as Carl Denham (compared to the original---which I was lucky enough to see, again, about 4 hours before seeing PJ's!).

But Naomi Watts was drool-a-licious. :-D And Kong? I cheered for those two crazy kids to make it (I mean, "make it" as survive :eyebrow )

GG Wanna see it again---in a better theater, w/o tons of squirrel-y adolescents... Out

I saw King Kong this week. I went with my wife, sister and my sister's boyfriend. I liked the movie...but I thought it took too long to get to the island...The movie blah'd on for like an hour before they even got to skull Island and I was practically falling asleep in my seat that whole time.

Another thing I didn't like about the movie was that the director (or whoever is in charge of these things) didn't concentrate enough on the story line. There were huge gaps in the story, for instance: in the beginning when they were on the ship...the one dude (I forgot his name) was talking about the kid and how they didn't know where he had came from and how they'd just found him hiding away on the ship one day, all feral and malnourished and the kid in question was acting all suspicious, listening to everything being said...I thought they were leading up to tell us that the kid actually knew something about skull island, or that he'd come from there or something...but they just left it open ended and didn't say anything else about it. That kinda sucked and didn't really make a lot of sense. The graphics were cool though. But like I said earlier; Graphics aren't everything.

I thought I really wanted to see this, but I'm not sure now. It's sooooo long, I'm pretty sure I'll have to pee and then miss something interesting. Also, I just don't think I can take the heartbreak. (Unless there is some new happy ending the world has conspired to keep secret from me.) I dearly love movies that make me cry, but they are also exhausting. Plus, too, crying gives me a headache.

I'm itching to go to the movies, though. I'm torn.

We do have an older thread for this movie on page two, but we can continue to talk about the movie in this one now that it is in theatres.
I have seen the previews and they look pretty good to me, but I don´t think I will watch it. I never cared for any of Kong ´s previous incarnations. The biggest surprise for me about this one is how thin Peter Jackson has become, I hardly recognized him.

Thanks for bringing up Peter Jackson's weight loss DrG!

I keep seeing PJ on TV and nobody has mentioned it, yet he's half the size he was at the last Oscars.

If Peter Jackson was a woman, the media would barely be talking about King Kong. They would be too busy speculating about PJ's eating disorder.

RE: King Kong, I do intend to see it, though I really hate the ending.

Culzean, you are so right. That's a great point. Of course, if he were a woman, a lot of people wouldn't be satisfied with his weight loss until he was downright skeletal. But it would definitely dominate coverage of the movie. Our world is so stupid.
