It so neat to read everyone's thoughts on their childhood (and adulthood) toons. I totally loved Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid. I can hardly remember what I watched then, though. An exception is that I remember I loved the
Smurfs (and I remember disliking the "new" Smurfs added later), and I think I even remember liking Johan and Peewee (I know, I know, it's spelled "Peewit" but whatever). On the other hand, I don't recall any of the episodes very well.
Has anyone mentioned
Rocky & Bullwinkle yet? I absolutely loved that show. Of course I was like 9 or 10 years old at the time, so most of the jokes were probably lost on me, but I loved Rocky, and I loved Sherman and Mr. Peabody. One of these days I'd love to watch the DVDs of the TV shows. I'm sure I'll appreciate it on a whole new level. I did see the live-action/animated movie that was made a few years ago. It wasn't bad (June Foray's voice was great to hear again and the Bullwinkle & Announcer guy was excellent), but storywise is was kind of eh.
I remember watching
Dungeons and Dragons, but I have no idea what the episodes were about, or who was in it, etc. And I remember watching
Tom and Jerry and original WB cartoons like
Bugs Bunny battling Elmer Fudd ("dat wascawwy wabbit!").
I know there must have been many other shows, but I don't remember them.
I think the afternoon cartoons made more of a lasting impression on my memory. I remember the
Jetsons -- I thought it had a cool premise, but George just got into scrapes and annoyed me a lot. I think that was also my problem with the
Flintstones -- it was a cool premise, but Fred just did things that annoyed me a lot.
My all-time favorite was watching
Scooby Doo after school (dang, I hated the Scrappy episodes!), and especially the episodes with guest stars introduced me to broader pop culture (albeit '70s pop culture, since I saw reruns of the show), like Sonny & Cher, and Phyllis Diller, and Jonathan Winters. A year or two ago, the local WB affiliate started airing Scooby Doo again, and I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, so I remember being shocked to see it while channel surfing one day. I could identify a lot of the campiness now, and the predicability, but it was still fun to see episodes I'd never seen.
When I got a little older, I definitely remember getting sucked into
Robotech. (Yeah, I agree with Kieli -- I know it's officially anime, but back then it was just a nifty kind of cartoon!). It was almost like a soap opera, in that it was probably the first time I got really hooked on a TV series (cartoon or otherwise) that had a running plotline. I think it came on right after Scooby Doo, or maybe it replaced Scooby Doo. One of those.
I also watched
Transformers a lot (I even had one as a toy), and a little of
He-Man and
Shera (I remember a friend of mine had one of the nemesis action figures from He-Man), but don't remember those shows as much.
And then much later on in life, I watched
Tiny Toons and a little
Animaniacs, and a whole lotta
Pinky and the Brain!! As a film junkie I loved the Orson Welles, uh, tributes, in P&tB. I really really hope the complete seasons come out on DVD. For all fellow Pinky and the Brain fans: if you want to see the show on DVD, you can sign up (I've already done it) on
Amazon to be notified when the DVD is released, and they'll tell the WB how many people want the DVD! So let's make this happen! (Can you tell I love Pinky and the Brain?)

Too bad there isn't a page to sign up for a Tiny Toons DVD.
