Daria! You got to love Daria! It's one of my all-time favorite animated TV Shows out there. You got to love all the characters (Quinn, Jane, Trent etc) and some of the quotes are just priceless to me. Not everyone loves this show but I happen to like it a lot, believe it or not but I can actually relate to Daria is some ways.

Daria is the best animated series ever. She's a great character, who makes me wish that I'd said all the sarcastic things I thought about in high school. Jane, Quinn, and the rest of the characters are great too, but Daria's one of the few shows where the main character is the one who makes the show work for me.

I'm sorry they ended it, but it was a great ending and I've got "Is it College Yet?" on DVD. Now if they'd just release the rest of the episodes on DVD...or at least show them as reruns.

It so neat to read everyone's thoughts on their childhood (and adulthood) toons. I totally loved Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid. I can hardly remember what I watched then, though. An exception is that I remember I loved the Smurfs (and I remember disliking the "new" Smurfs added later), and I think I even remember liking Johan and Peewee (I know, I know, it's spelled "Peewit" but whatever). On the other hand, I don't recall any of the episodes very well.

Has anyone mentioned Rocky & Bullwinkle yet? I absolutely loved that show. Of course I was like 9 or 10 years old at the time, so most of the jokes were probably lost on me, but I loved Rocky, and I loved Sherman and Mr. Peabody. One of these days I'd love to watch the DVDs of the TV shows. I'm sure I'll appreciate it on a whole new level. I did see the live-action/animated movie that was made a few years ago. It wasn't bad (June Foray's voice was great to hear again and the Bullwinkle & Announcer guy was excellent), but storywise is was kind of eh.

I remember watching Dungeons and Dragons, but I have no idea what the episodes were about, or who was in it, etc. And I remember watching Tom and Jerry and original WB cartoons like Bugs Bunny battling Elmer Fudd ("dat wascawwy wabbit!").

I know there must have been many other shows, but I don't remember them.

I think the afternoon cartoons made more of a lasting impression on my memory. I remember the Jetsons -- I thought it had a cool premise, but George just got into scrapes and annoyed me a lot. I think that was also my problem with the Flintstones -- it was a cool premise, but Fred just did things that annoyed me a lot.

My all-time favorite was watching Scooby Doo after school (dang, I hated the Scrappy episodes!), and especially the episodes with guest stars introduced me to broader pop culture (albeit '70s pop culture, since I saw reruns of the show), like Sonny & Cher, and Phyllis Diller, and Jonathan Winters. A year or two ago, the local WB affiliate started airing Scooby Doo again, and I hadn't seen it since I was a kid, so I remember being shocked to see it while channel surfing one day. I could identify a lot of the campiness now, and the predicability, but it was still fun to see episodes I'd never seen.

When I got a little older, I definitely remember getting sucked into Robotech. (Yeah, I agree with Kieli -- I know it's officially anime, but back then it was just a nifty kind of cartoon!). It was almost like a soap opera, in that it was probably the first time I got really hooked on a TV series (cartoon or otherwise) that had a running plotline. I think it came on right after Scooby Doo, or maybe it replaced Scooby Doo. One of those.

I also watched Transformers a lot (I even had one as a toy), and a little of He-Man and Shera (I remember a friend of mine had one of the nemesis action figures from He-Man), but don't remember those shows as much.

And then much later on in life, I watched Tiny Toons and a little Animaniacs, and a whole lotta Pinky and the Brain!! As a film junkie I loved the Orson Welles, uh, tributes, in P&tB. I really really hope the complete seasons come out on DVD. For all fellow Pinky and the Brain fans: if you want to see the show on DVD, you can sign up (I've already done it) on Amazon to be notified when the DVD is released, and they'll tell the WB how many people want the DVD! So let's make this happen! (Can you tell I love Pinky and the Brain?) ;) Too bad there isn't a page to sign up for a Tiny Toons DVD.

Saw one of my favorite WB cartoons, ever..."Ali Baba Bunny," where Bugs and Daffy end up in a cave with a sultan's treasure, then are pursued by the guard ("Hassan CHOP!"). Bugs, disguised as a genie ("The Light Brown Hare!") does a "spell" to give the treasure to Hassan. After which, Daffy, with murder in his eye, mocks Bugs' incantation:

"Ickety-Ackety-Ook!"

"Oh oh, squeak, ah ah, pffffth!":lol

One year, I made a friend of mine a shirt with those lines on it (one in front, one on back). He wore that sucker until it decomposed into fibers.

Our other group fave is "What's Opera, Doc?" You don't know the meaning of fear until you've heard a bunch of middle-aged fanboys all singing "Return My Love," sounding somewhere between Elmer and Bugs, at the top of their lungs. Very scary.

Ah, indeed, "What's Opera, Doc?" is very enjoyable (especially if you're a Wagner fan, as I am;) ). However, my favorite "operatic" cartoon is and will always be "The Rabbit of Seville", with both the singing and action closely following the music of Rossini's overture to "The Barber of Seville". Consider the opening lyrics, as sung by Bugs to Elmer:

"How dooooooooo!

Welcome to my shop,

Let me cut your mop,

Let me shave your crop,

Dain...ti...ly, dain...ti...ly.

Hey you!

Don't look so perplexed,

Why must you be vexed,

Can't you see you're next!

Yes, you're next!

Ooooooh, so next!

Now we must begin the scraping,

It's no use to try escaping,

Kick and scream and rant and rave,

It's no use, you need a shaaaaaaave!"

And all the rest is just as great:laugh . In fact, I can only give this animated masterpiece the greatest possible compliment: Rossini would have loved it!:applause

Has anyone else noticed that Noir is an anime flick where the girl gets the girl in the end? It still blows me away, even though Chloe was the typical psycho lesbian portrayal....the rest of the series is just amazing with the interplay in the developing relationship between Kirika and Miriellle.

I have always and will always love cartoons. There's just something about them. Especially all the things you can do in it that you couldnt do in a show with actual people.

When I was younger I practically lived off Cartoon Network. Scooby Doo was my favorite. I even got a stuffed animal of him. Then there was A Pup named Scooby Doo, which was the group as kids. Yogi Bear was way up there. I'm kind of suprised no one's mentioned him yet. I liked Ren and Stimpy, but Ren kind of gave me the heebie jeebies. Care Bears was probably my second favorite, my friend and I loved to do the "care bear stare". I could never watch the movie all the way through because the bad guy scared me too much (I was a big whimp). Oh and Rocko's Modern Life was a big one too. Does anyone remember that show?

I like adult swim alot now. Aqua Teen and SeaLab and the like. I have all three seasons of Family Guy. I think South Park counts as a cartoon so I'll say that too. Daria is my all time favorite cartoon though. There's just something about it. Oh and Clone High. It was briefly on mtv, but it was so funny. Ghandi had ADD, and Joan of Arc (or Miss. Of Arc as the teachers said) had a crush on Abe Licoln. I wish it would have lasted longer.

If you like "South Park" or "Drawn Together," you might want to check out Sealab 2021 -- they use the characters, etc from Sealab 2020, so it has that "Johnny Quest" feel, but the level of subversiveness is unbelievable. Like DT, nothing is off-limits!

This past weekend, ABC's Saturday morning lineup premiered its new series, W.I.T.C.H., which is based on a comic series that's reportedly been going in Europe for a couple of years. It's about a group of five girls who use mystical powers to fight the forces of evil. Obviously Disney is making an attempt here to cash in on the popularity of anime, but the show has the unmistakable Disney touch. I haven't decided yet whether that's good or bad.

One thing that is of definite interest, though - the leader of the five girls is a short redhead named Will. :grin (It's short for "Wilma" instead of "Willow," but still...) And one of the other girls bears a striking resemblence to Tara, but she's named Cornelia, and acts like... well, who else? Cordelia. :lol

Yeah Bob,

I mentioned W.I.T.C.H. a while back, but didn't know that the cartoon was out now. It's cute with a good message, friends, family and love are important.

I'll have to check it out. When was it on? I looked on ABC's sites, but no luck.

To be fair, most of the stuff in the W.I.T.C.H. books predates supposedly similar things from that other show.

If you want to check out their website, disney.go.com/witch/main.html, my suggestion is to turn off your speakers first.

It was on at 11:00 here in California, but our Saturday morning schedules never match the rest of the country because of all the sports that start in the morning on Pacific time. Check your local listings. The pilot was rerun on Toon Disney, too, although I don't know if they're going to keep doing that.
