Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Ok, so I love old film noir and thought I'd give this movie a shot. I really don't care for Gwenyth Paltrow, but I couldn't help but like her. Anyway, anyone seen it? Like the look of it? The style? The tongue in cheek humor?

Loved this movie! Fantastic visuals and a fun plot. And Angelina Jolie in black leather and an eyepatch. Wow. Great movie not for you thinking cap moments but great when you want to see a well done adventure. This beats "Raiders of the Lost Ark" as an hommage to the old serials IMHO.

ITA! Right down to the way the newspapers flashed on the screens, Dex's comic books and the one liners that just jump off the screen!

Sky Captain was #1 at the US box office last weekend:

'Sky Captain' Flies High on North American Charts
Quote:
Neo-retro sci-fi thriller "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" flew to the top of the North American box office over the weekend, pushing sci-fi sequel "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," which opened last week at No. 1, to third place.

"Sky Captain," starring Jude Law and Gwyneth Paltrow, sold about $16.2 million in tickets in its first three days, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

Although September is an historically slow month at the box office, and despite hurricanes on the East Coast which dampened ticket sales, the film did as well as expected, publicists said.

I had the lucky fortune of getting to see this movie when i it came out in Canada (i was there visiting my girlfriend at the time) and i loved it! Everything about it. The style, the actors and the way they played their characters. And of course, the wonderful Miss Angelina Jolie. Very drool worthy in that movie i must say. :wink Awesome film, IMO.

This was a very silly but very fun film :D

The only thing I didn't like was the fact that Polly used the villain (don't know how to spell his name) having gotten a patent when he was twelve as an example of how clever he was, but she doesn't say what it was for. For all we know it could have been something like "exercising your cat using a laser pointer" or "covering up a bald spot using strands of your own hair" :p

A good story should provoke discussion, debate, argument...and the occasional bar fight. -JMS
