The Truth About Jane

Postby BytrSuite » Mon Mar 29, 2004 1:13 am

I can't believe we don't have a thread for this. My luck, there is, but I just can't find it.

This was a Lifetime movie that came out about 4 years ago. I remember seeing it advertised and marking it on my calendar so I wouldn't forget to tape it. I was really glad I did.

It is a very sweet movie and just seemed to bring up a bunch of issues I hadn't seen addressed before, at least not at the time and not so openly.

Ellen Muth does a wonderful job as Jane and the rest of the cast is pretty amazing too. Stockard Channing, RuPaul and Kelly Rowan, lovely.

I remember being almost surprised when they showed the two girls kissing, and then showed them under the covers in bed. It being a Lifetime movie, I guess I wasn't really expecting them to show anything at all.

One of my late night local stations just ran it here. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoyed the movie, it was very nice to see it again.

I love this movie. It's one of my favorite lifetime ones. It's very good on most stuff. Stockard Channing seems way over the top lol. But man it has RuPaul, what else could be better!

I love RuPaul, it was such a shock to see him without drag in But I'm a cheerleader. I prefer him as a woman. Anyway, we did not have a thread for this movie, it sounded familiar but that is because it got mentioned in the Lifetime Movie: An Unexpected Love thread. I've never seen either of these movies. I am not sure they have ever been shown on Dutch TV or whether I just missed them. I'll keep an eye out for them now.

I also mentioned this movie in the Dead Like Me thread, because Ellen Muth is the star of that series.

I saw this for the first time the other night, I can't believe I hadn't seen it before.

I loved it. Ellen Muth was amazing, as was everyone else.

I was really surprised to see this on WGN, and with the kisses and the scene in bed, not edited to pieces.

This is one of my favourite movies of all time :heart I love Ellen Muth in it, she is just so cute..and I adore Kelly Rowan too. Though, watching this movie brings back bad memories- I watched it the night my parents split up :| . Love sammi xx

I wondered if there was a thread for this, too!

I also just caught it on WGN the other night (by a fluke): boy am I glad I did!

First of all, when young Jane started at her new high school, did anyone else think "I see a Big Time Crush on Teacher coming!" :p (At least my gaydar was accurate! ;) ---and isn't that actress on The O.C. now? Just spotted her in a commercial). The girlfriend "Taylor" smelled like Bad News from the beginning, to me though (even if you knew that the "two girls" in Two Girls in Love weren't going to work out long-term, at least there was a genuine connection there: Jane and Taylor, Not So Much). At any rate, when Jane and Taylor looked to be starting something, I hoped for a kiss---was shocked that they had sex (and nearly on camera)! :jaw (2000: good googly-moogly, Willow and Tara hadn't even kissed on camera yet!)

Ellen Muth did do a great job. I found Stockard Channing's character difficult to believe, however. For someone of her age, in the year 2000 (and no discernible "faith-based" :rolleyes prejudice), her homophobia was awfully extreme . . . and this is a person who already has a gay friend??? :wtf

GG I suspected this might be a "Lifetime" production for its level of everything-and-the-kitchen-sink angst. :happy It was still a lot better than An Unexpected Love though. :) Out

I think this movie awesome. I was randomly flipping through channels one night at like 3:00 am I saw two girls kissing and was like "hmmmm oh goodie"

Sadly, Stockard Channing's character is very similar to my mother in that she's about the same age and is involved in the theater where she perform/associates with/goes out to dinner with, etc MANY gay men, and yet cannot even acknowledge my partner of over 5 years not to mention the flip out of Channing's character would not even come close.

So my point is...I guess ..it happens

Anyway, the movie was good

I've wanted to see this movie for quite sometime, but haven't been able to catch it on television. Does anyone know if they will be airing it again anytime soon?

Just a quick heads up - The Truth About Jane airs tonight (July 2 2004) on the Lifetime Movie Network. On my cable system, it's on at 10:15pm. Check your local listings to see when it will be on in your area.
