Since I'm starting this I'll hand down, IMO, some wisdom I was given by my father. "The first person in the world you have to like is yourself". It sounds selffish but it isn't. No one will care for you if you don't care for the person you are.

Sometimes you eat the bear and sometimes the bear eats you. don't remember where I got that but it is true.

This was related to me so I wasn't told directly: When hiking and you should ever come across a bear, don't run. It will trigger his/her attack instinct. I do hike and there is a chance I could run into a bear so if that should happen I know what to do (other than faint)

Follow up: The woman that relayed that advice to me was given this advice by her brother. She asked him if he could remain still and he said "hell no!. he'd run. She reminded him what she had told him. He said "I know, but the bear can only get one of us and I'm faster than you".

I think the best advice anyone's given to me was from my therapist.

"Don't analyze people to the point of forgetting that they're human and not an example in a textbook. Enjoy the moment and analyze later, rather than analyzing every thing that happens the moment after it occurs."

A very useful piece of advice for me.

I got good advice from my therapist yesterday, now I need to learn to apply it. When expressing my anxieties about my classes getting harder soon, she said; "Take that thought and catagorize it. 'Oh, this is a worry about the future' and then let that go to the corner of your mind because if you let it stay, you'll make sure it happens"

Don't eat college cafeteria food unless you're on a campus with dorms. I would've saved myself many stomach aches (and tons of money) if I'd listened to that and just brought my lunch.

A really good friend once said to me, "You know, you can order martinis with like two or three extra olives." I've never forgotten that.

If you love her, let her go, if she loves you she will come back. -And yes it is true, made obvious by the fact that she can't stop texting me.-

It's better to regret something you did, than something you didn't do.

Get your needs met.

I'm sure my therapist meant life in general, but my thoughts always take a slightly saucy turn. ;-)

best advice I ever got?
"Go home and stay there forever you sicko!"
But I just didn't listen LoL
"Don't go to college, you don't have a future anyway" is a good runner up I guess, they were probably right

1. We become who we pretend to be (Eleanore Roosevelt quote, good advice in an indirect way)
2. Be Here Now (from my mentor)
3. Prior proper planning prevents poor performance (my father's favorite)

And my signature line, below, is the one I try to live by. Think about it before you decide it's silly.

It's not so much advice but I like this hack or trick or habit. So let's say you can't make a choice about something. When you go through it with your head you end up at "I could go either way." You're trying to decide whether to quit your job for a new one that will require you to step out of your comfort zone but pay 30% more or whatever.

Flip a coin.

No shit.

But the trick is you flip the coin and slap your hand down on it and then just ask yourself what you want the coin to say. You're not locked into what it says but it's another clue.
