I was 12 years old, when I first encountered "The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical" . . .
HAIR! (in book form, strangely enough---I still have it).
It blew my frickin' little mind!
There are still some moonlit nights, when I'll find myself singing "Gladdy-glup-gloopy-nibby-nabby-nupy-la-la-la-lo-lo!"
(from "Good Morning, Starshine"---hey, you just had to be 12 in 1974 I guess!
)
Eh . . . but that's
not the way I'm feeling right now.
Instead, there's a song in
Hair, about a woman who's so wrapped in her own priorities, that she completely cuts out of her life the one who loves her...
(who she continues to ignore, even as her lover sings...)
Quote:
Easy To Be Hard
How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be hard, easy to be cold
How can people have no feelings
How can they ignore their friends
Easy to be proud, easy to say no
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend, I need a friend
How can people be so heartless
You know I'm hung up on you
Easy to be proud, easy to say no
Especially people who care about strangers
Who care about evil and social injustice
Do you only care about bleeding crowd
How about a needing friend, we all need a friend
How can people be so heartless
How can people be so cruel
Easy to be proud, easy to say no
Easy to be cold, easy to say no
Come, on, easy to give in, easy to say no
Easy to be cold, easy to say no
Much too easy to say no
[Lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado: the band "3 Dog Night" had a hit w/ it]

Have I ever been the "Easy to be Hard" person? Truthfully, probably sometime (I can't remember when, but I suppose the Lesser Angels of my nature have found a way to paper-over the guilt). I guess it's something we should all look in the mirror, to see if we're like this. Out
But speaking of looking in the mirror: dealing w/ "the other end [of "Easy to be Hard"], the following seems to capture how I'm feeling right now..

ETA: the Kitten crashed as I was going to post this last night---so help me, I hope this is my last post obsessing over my now-over relationship... (Heh: KD, I was thinking about "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" too---hang in there!)
