Post subject: What's on the Kittens' playlists?
PostPosted: Thu Sep 26, 2002 5:48 am
Hey!

I thought it could be nice to have a 'playlist' thread over here, since I'm always in search of new music to listen to while I'm reading W/T fanfic :wink

Anyway, here's what my playlist looks like these days (it changes often but there are some constants) :

- Some songs from OMWF

- Btvs soundtrack

- Various songs heard on Btvs (Twilight Zone, Goodbye To You, That Kind Of Love etc etc)

- Depeche Mode, One Night In Paris + older stuff

- Garbage - Version 2.0

- Mutations (weird Alice Cooper covers - go Alice!)

- Various songs by K's Choice (I still can't get over "Virgin State Of Mind" and the related images of vamp-Willow :drool )

- Some Sarah McLachlan, Green Day, Guns N' Roses, Hooverphonics, Cardigans, Texas, The Connels, Queen, Travis, The Breeders, Madonna, Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Oasis... and of course, "Toucha-touch me" by Amber :grin

And now for the French music (the cool thing is you can find all of those on Kazaa) :

- Indochine : their latest album, "Paradize", is great! It's pop/rock music, sounds a little like Depeche Mode (to give you an idea) :)

- Zazie : her latest single is entitled "Adam & Yves" (a gay-friendly song ;) ), she's a great down-to-earth woman!

- Mylène Farmer : the ultimate gay icon of the 90's and a huge star in France! I can't really define her style, she writes beautiful lyrics though :)

- Noir Désir : good politically committed French rock music!

- L'auberge Espagnole Soundtrack : music from a great French movie which came out last summer (with a cool lesbian character in it ;) ) : some Spanish music and also some Radiohead and Daft Punk :)

- Calogero : this guy has a really nice voice, I especially like his song called "En apesanteur" and I'm going to one of his concerts in December :)

- Renaud : he's basically a reference as far as French singers go, and his latest album is really good! Check out the song "Manhattan-Kaboul" (duet with Axelle Red, a Belgian singer) if you're curious ;)

OK, that's it for now, I hope I'll get new ideas from reading about your playlists! :p

Have a nice day!

Christine

eh... I'm not usually caught with my pants down like this:

several OMWF songs

a couple of stuff I heard on MTV (yes. MTV. the freaking shame) like Avril Lavigne and The Calling

System of a Down

Tori Amos

ah... what a shame! I thought I could flaunt my Gregorian Chants, Sinead O'Connor, Queen and Beatles mp3. But of course, I don't listen to them so it serves me right. ugggh.

Well now, let's see. Lately it's been...

Keyboard--a lot of harpsichord music (Bach, Rameau, Handel, Byrd, etc.), since I recently got the chance to play three (3!!!) recently completed instruments:D .

Orchestral--quite a bit of Bruckner and Sibelius

Opera--been concentrating on Handel and Gluck in recent months

Chamber--currently Vivaldi's Opp.I and II

Solo Vocal--listenend to some Noel Coward songs recently

Choral--been sampling a lot of Renaissance polyphony

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"O salce! salce! salce!"

"Willow Song" from Verdi's "Otello":)

right now it's a pretty constant rotation of OMWF, various showtunes (mostly Sondheim shows, with some Hedwig thrown in), and cheesy 80s pop.

I really should start keeping an Impressively Pretentious Playlist of MP3s, so when people ask this question I can sound as if my tastes are more highbrow than they are.

Well, let's see:

Since I need my daily radiohead fix, I hear the albums in weekly rotation, right now it's "The Bends".

Then I need my daily Schubert, currently it's Schwanengesang time (and it has to be Fischer-Dieskau, hasn't it?)

Tool, System of A Down, Nick Cave;

some oldies from the Pogues, Suzanne Vega, Led Zeppelin.

But my favorite one over the last month was Mahler's Symphonie No. 2 (especially the final set).

For pretty obvious reasons. :)

I forgot my CD case today. :cry

On the upside, while I was scrounging for CDs in my car once I got to work, I found my longlost copy of Peter Gabriel's Shaking the Tree. Gotta love that Peter Gabriel. :love

Yesterday I was in an instrumental mood and listened to the score of City of Angels, Tchaikovsky, and Grieg.

Also located in my car was the CD Jer made for me the first few weeks we were dating. It has our song on it, and a few other sentimental favorites, so I'm sure I'll be sighing to that one sometime soon, too.

Well, right now it looks something like this:

Avril Lavigne (and I discovered her before MTV did!)

Jimmy Eat World (LOVE them!!)

Incubus (he just has the most amazing voice!)

some OMWF songs

some other BtVS songs like "That kind of love" (still love it)

Lifehouse, K's Choice, Simple Plan, Michelle Branch, No Doubt (the old stuff), Puddle Of Mudd ("Blurry" is still the best song ever) and some punk stuff.

:love &:peace

I do like 'Clocks' by Coldplay but my favourite track off the album is 'The Scientist', it is truely amazing, like the whole album really.

I have heard that the new Cold Play is really good, esp. those two songs.

Hmmm.. course right now I am listening to former "Iron Maiden" lead singer Bruce Dickenson's "Tatooed Millionare". Hey, it's only about 10 years old. I was listening to Led Zeppelin 1 the other day and was thinking how much "Your Time is Gonna Come" sounds like my ode to Joss and Marti! ;)

"The Scientist." Check. I'll have to download that one when I get home from work. I was previously unfamiliar with their stuff, and recently DLed a bunch of their songs, but none of them so far have grown on me. That's usually the way of it, though, I have to listen to things for a while before it dawns on me that I really dig them. Actually, that applies to most things in my life, including women. I'm slow that way. *is a dork*

The first time I heard "Clocks" on the radio a few weeks back I was just arriving home from work, and I sat in my car, parked out in front of my apartment, and cranked up the volume. Only very rarely do I dig new songs that much the first time I hear 'em, particularly enough to stay in my hot car for another five minutes after rush hour traffic.

Okay, I suppose the technological equivalent of my slip is showing, but....

is this where you download music and then you can put it together any way you want? Like a mixed tape?

Wow.

I'm still stuck in playing one cd at a time for days or weeks on end. Lately this has included:

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Johnny Lang

Ryan Adams

Patty Griffin

Hole

BTVS Soundtrack

Right now I got my crazy one on ... so it's got a little of everything. The Sugarcubes, Violent Femmes, Reel Big Fish, Ben Folds Five, Elton John, Queen, Kansas, Fiona Apple's cover of Across The Universe, Mazzy Star, some Veggie Tales songs (I love Silly Songs With Larry!), songs from the first Parappa game on PS, The Arrogant Worms, Alvin and the Chipmunks version of the Time Warp, Juvenile Wreck, a couple songs from OMWF, a few Buffy songs (I Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Wild Horses from Prom, Goodbye To You etc) ... I am much with the randomness. My other favorite playlist includes Dido, Lifehouse, Bon Jovi, Madonna, Chicago, Rob Zombie, Bjork, Kittie ... so I listen to pretty much everything. I have a bunch of ICP songs too, but living in the same house with my gf's grandma I don't listen to them very often, though when Christmastime rolls around you can't escape that holiday classic, Santa's A Fat Bitch.

I've been listening to different things like Sade, Cranberries, Blur, Flávio Venturini and old Italian songs, especially one named 'Roberta', by Pepino Di Capri (of all names...). It really kills me. I shouldn't be listening to it, then, should I? Well...

Well, I change my playlist often, but at the moment it's *pops up Winamp*:

REM - "End of the World"

Therion - "Cult of the Shadow"

Theatre of Tragedy - "A Rose for the Dead"

The 69 Eyes - "Brandon Lee"

Rob Zombie - "Living dead Girl"

Iron Maiden - "Number of the Beast"

Hypocrisy - "Fractured Millenium"

Godgory - "Leavetaking"

Fear Factory - "Edgecrusher"

Dreadful Shadows - "Chains"

Crematory - "Tears of Time (live)"

Angel Witch - "Angel Witch"

Quite different from my normally Black Metal-dominated music preferences...

Willowlicious, what do you think of the new Aimee Mann album? I've gone mp3-free this year so I haven't heard anything from it yet.

Those that never leave me (I fear change):

Poe - everything from Haunted. Best.album.ever.

Elliott Smith - songs from XO and Either Or.

Massive Attack - stuff from Protection and Mezzanine.

Coldplay - Parachutes, 'cause I'm too cheap to buy the new one.

Duran Duran - Rio (they're coming back in! I swear!)

Garbage - v 2.0 (I hate Beautifulgarbage with the burning rage of a thousand suns).

The 'Stealing Beauty' soundtrack. Bad movie, good music. This is my 'reading fanfic' album.

New listenin' for me:

John Mayer - Room for Squares (because of Rally's video).

My listening obsessions change regularly but at the moment I'm listening to:

K's Choice - Cocoon Crash

Michelle Branch - The Spirit Room

Lucid 3 - Running Down the Keys (NZ Group)

Radiohead - The Bends

Linkin Park - Hybrid Thoery

Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing (cause I'm a chick - so its compulsory)

Oh - and completely OT: I was out with my Mum today and we walked passed some guys playing cricket. Mum said, quite innocently, "there's nothing like leather on willow" and I thought, not quite so innocently, "Yep, nothing like leather on Willow". Thought I'd share.
