*sighs* well, there's the resident queer shows, will & grace and queer as folk, but to be honest I can't stand either of those shows. except when queer as folk has the occasional lesbian sex scene.

Hmmm...characters, characters, *wracks brain* well, there's ellen degeneres, who used to play ellen degeneres on tv until she came out, and they cancelled her show. And Rosie O'Donnel, but neither of them are fictitious, so...

oh! oh! wait! dark angel! the new show by the hack who directed titanic! You know: the one with her hotness Jessica Alba as Max (a hot name for a hot body...ok, I'll stop). Max's best friend is a girl with a honey-coated chocolate complexion, and she's a lesbian. *licks lips* mmmmm. Can you say possibilities? yummy.

Although Mel and Lindz are background characters in QAF, they still get about as much air time as a W/T. I really enjoy watching QAF and M/L bits make it that much more interesting...but this should not be overlooked...this show does feature an explicit Lesbian relationship, much more than we have really ever seen.

And lets not forget the wonderful Kerrie Weaver from ER and her new found lesbian-ness...we're only about 5 episodes into this season in England but I hear interesting things are gonna happen! Of course, I totally miss Elizabeth Mitchell who played her girlfriend last year, Dr.Legaspi, anyone see her in 'Gia' with Angelina Jolie? Cos they both rocked in that. *sigh* Angelina....

Don't we have a lesbian in Bad Girls over here in the UK on ITV1?

I'm not sure of the characters name though......

Anya: I know what broke up him and Cordelia, you know. It was you! And your lips!
Willow: No, it was not! Well, yes it was so, but... that was a long time ago, do you think I'd do that again?
Anya: Why not?
Willow: Hello? Gay now!

the lesbian character on Dark Angel as Lizbian mentioned above is Original Cindy. i like her, she's got spunk.. i remember one ep when her ex-gf returned... can't recall if they kissed but it was cool. i wish Orig Cindy has more screentime tho'.

as for friends, i know someone fr the kitty board did say that Phoebe from Friends is more likely to become gay, not Rachel. however, tptb would probably not do it coz they already have Ross's 1st ex-wife and her wife (sorry forgot the names) as gay. i even taped their wedding episode... *sigh*

there's a student in Boston Public whose mother used to date the Vice Principal. the student's gay coz the vice principal found him kissing another guy. then the vp found out he's actually bi coz he begun dating the Principal's daughter. sorry, forgot their names but i do watch it on a regular basis.

what abt Carter on Spin City? i used to watch it until Michael J. Fox left the show. i still remember that episode when Michael found out he's gay, lol ;)

Yeah, the bi kid on BP is Jeremy Sutor(sp). He's awesome, but he never gets any screen time. Though he's also got some serious psychological problems(he locked his mother up in the basement and tried to drop a planter on her head from a story high). And the girl he was going out with was Brooke Harper.

Yeah there is a major lesbian couple in the first three seasons of bad girls. The fourth season hasn't aired yet as far as I know. The characters names are Helen and Nikki. We've seen this series in South Africa and I adored it. And I actually got to meet the actresses who play Helen and Nikki. :)

I don't watch ER, but I do watch QAF and I have to say that after every Melanie and Lindsey scene, I just go, "Hmph, they're no Willow and Tara." W/T has spoiled me.

True, true. And that's certainly not a bad thing. I read somewhere (TWoP probably) around the time this season started that Showtime felt M&L had been underused and wanted them to get better storylines (anything would be better than that Lindz getting married bullshit) and more screentime. Also, I think Michelle Clunie said that there was a scene upcoming that was so graphic, she wasn't going to let her mother watch. (I'm totally paraphrasing from memory, so this may be a little off. I also don't know if she was referring to a scene that has aired by now, or if it's still to come.)

Well, there was that whole sex festival on the couch with the vibrator scene which I must admit suprised me. If that's not what she was talking about then I guess I'll be even more surprised.

Oh, yeah, I've got my fingers crossed. My personal wish to push the graphicness envelope involves naughty, naughty stuff. I'm thinking about the best lesbian sex scenes I've seen in mainstream films or television and they're all pretty vanilla. They seem shocking and graphic because it's so rare to see lesbian sex scenes, but, really, compared to what most lesbians really get up to, they're pretty tame. (For example, Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon's scene in the unrated version of Bound was undeniably hot as hell, but still totally vanilla.) I would love to see Mel and Lindz blow the boys out of the water by doing something profoundly smutty.

saturnine - yes i've read about Bad Girls in a British mag, the two actresses were interviewed and i found it very intriguing. wish it was shown here too, in Canada, i.e.

Hanki - you just have to regularly watch ER and the Kerry/Sandy storyline will be become very interesting.

AutumnT and maudmac - yes on the more sex scenes b/w Mel and Lindz. i've watched that scene on the couch and found it very, um, hot. there was even a sex scene in S1 where Mel was in full frontal nudity, standing in the doorway of their bedroom then suddenly came on to Lindz on the bed and started her way southward. oh la la... ;)

as for more lesbians on tv, i remember the show Relativity...anybody remember that show? too bad it was canceled tho'. the two lesbians there where kissing passionately (i'm not good w/ names sorry) and there was even an earthquake simulation during the smooch, or was it after? i can't remember coz it was like 5 yrs ago or something... oh, but i recall the actress who played the lead guy's sister is now on Leap of Faith.

ok, this is the end of my message. bah-bye and peace! :) :love

There are/have been many gay/bisexual people in Bad Girls. There's been Helen, Nikki, Shaz, Denny, Shell, and now Roisin, Neil and Cassie. I have met Simone Lahbib (Helen) and Mandana Jones (Nikki) too.

There's Zoe Tate in Emmerdale.

There's also the fantabulously amazing Virginia in At Home with the Braithwaites, played by Sarah Smart. *faint*

Postby maudmac » Sun Mar 31, 2002 9:56 pm

So I'm over here on the computer and my gf is in the living room, watching L&O. All of a sudden, she yells, "What is with the evil gay people thing?" I haven't seen it yet, but it's on my TiVo and I'll watch it soon. Wasn't it a L&O that had that story about the two lesbians killing their husbands. No, it was CSI, wasn't it? Whatever, it doesn't matter, they're still putting out that evil lesbian crap.

But there are so many positive portrayals of GLBT folks on TV these days, I'm willing to accept an evil lesbian or two. And, of course, the fact of the matter is that there are evil lesbians out there. So now that the entertainment industry is showing a more balanced view of us, it doesn't bother me so much.

I fear I've lost my radical lesbian feminist edge. Those were the days.

QAF

Postby ennui24 » Sun Mar 31, 2002 10:45 pm

Just wanted to plug QAF's lesbian couple. They are given too little screen time and are often saddled with lame storylines, but I believe Melanie and Lindsay present the most well-rounded, graphic (in a good way) portrayal of a lesbian relationship of any television show out there today. It's full-on talking, fighting, loving, and sex.

Much of the credit goes to the actresses who play them, Michelle Clunie and Thea Gill, who have amazing chemistry and can infuse even the most anvillicious scenes with love and sincerity. Tonight's episode, for example, was a keeper. It focused on their wedding. Others might have found this story arc stupid, but the payoff was great.

Re: QAF

Postby maudmac » Sun Mar 31, 2002 11:10 pm

Y'know, one of my biggest complaints with Mel and Lindz is that it doesn't seem they communicate. I mean, they were together six years and already had a baby before they bothered to work out who was gonna stay home? My gf and I have been together six years, have no intention of having children, and we've worked out who would stay home with the baby we aren't gonna have.

Of course, this is all the writers' fault, but they haven't made M/L seem like a happy, healthy relationship to me. (I know lots of non-Kitten-type people have said the same thing about W/T and I would even be inclined to agree on a few points.)

My test is: Would I want to be in that relationship? And M/L just makes me look at my gf with awe and say, "I am sooooo glad we're not like them."

I don't really think their chemistry is all that good, either. But that's totally in the eye of the beholder. (I think Willow and Tara's chemistry just screams, but lots of folks on other boards don't see it.)

Having said all that, I'm really glad M/L are there, on that show and on people's TVs. Whatever flaws they have, and who doesn't, I'm glad they are out there for all the world to see.

Is lesbian chic back, cuz there sure are a lot of lesbians on TV right now.

Lesbian 'love scene' on Lexx

Postby nermal1 » Mon Apr 01, 2002 2:11 am

Edit: Eeep, didn't see the other thread for lesbian media... sorry mods, please move this over there *sheepish grin*

Forgive me if this has been posted here already, but I've not yet seen it. Anyway, thought it might be of some interest to some of us on the board.

They recently had a love scene on Lexx (the funky whacked out space show) between Xev and Bunny, pretty much the only two 'main' female characters on the show. Now, it wasn't really shown (you saw them moving under the sheets and heard all the moaning and stuff) but still, it wasn't something I saw coming.

Now the reasons for it was to get the Key from Bunny to the Lexx so Stan could have it back (it can be extracted from the height of sexual ecstacy). Xev was only too happy to oblige when they realised Stan just wouldn't do the job ;) Anyway, I love the looks they gave each other afterwards on the bridge of the Lexx, Bunny was all shy and girly while Xev had that smouldering look she does so well. They'd kissed a few episodes earlier (again, something I wasn't expecting), and the President, Bunny's husband, was afraid she'd 'switched to the other team'. Bunny's response: "I'm a very complex girl."

Anyway, too much typing for me. Maybe some other people here have seen it. I loved the episodes, but hey, those who watch it know the chance of a relationship is nil. It just worked for the current storyline (getting the Key back to Stan).

so anyway, Patricia the episode of dark angel was in the first season (it's only in it's 2nd right now) and it was somewhere in the second half, that's about the best i can do right now. :shy
