I would say so. Not in a fanatic sort of way, but I LOVE cereal and it's what I have for breakfast most days. And I also really like making a big eggs and bacon breakfast on the weekends. Lunch is good too, but it's different.

Have you ever done something that you knew was potentially life-threateningly unsafe, but you did it anyway? (Not suicide, I'm talking about risk-taking.) What was it and why did you do it?

Yup.

I went skydiving.

Why? I can't explain it really -- my buddy Nanette and I had been talking about doing it for years? I am not usually a thrill seeker, but that week Nanette and I went both sky divingand gliding (in those no-power airplaney looking things that get towed into the air by a prop plane)... I am not usually a thrill seeker but I had always wanted to feel a fall like that; to travel through clouds; to see the world from far away getting closer and closer.... and also Nanette and I were peace corps buddies which is *kinda* a thrill seeking sort of adventure in its own right, so maybe that had something to do with it? Anyway I did it, it was cool, and now I have it out of my system.

Sunset on the beach on Koh Samed, which is an island in near Thailand. It was a totally cliche'd paradise; white sand, clear blue water, log cabins 10ft from the sea. The sunset was SPECTACULAR. We stayed a week out of a two month trip and I loved it so much they took me back (I was seven). You'd be amazed at how well you get treated if you're a VERY blonde, bright-blue eyed little girl in Thailand.

Even at seven I could appreciate it. I'd love to go back.

Does being laid off count? About a year and a half ago my wife and I were working for the same company (which was beginning to tank dramatically - that's the why) and were both laid off on the same day. It happened about 5 months before we were going to move to New York. Valentine's day I believe. It was a Friday at 5:00 and it was a "please pack your things now, this was just your last day" kind of situation.

It actually turned out to be one of the best gifts life has ever given us - just wrapped in some seriously crap packaging. A friend of ours was renovating her home at the time and she hired us to tear down some walls, put up some new ones, paint, and just about anything else we could figure out how to do. We got to spend the spring and summer working together, learned a whole heap of new skills, and ironically, we made more money than we would have if we had been able to keep our jobs. Go figure. Sometimes you steer your life, and sometimes you just ride.

Do you think your zodiac sign accurately represents you?

It's sort of an odd choice, but currently I prefer Rhet Miller's Come Around for a slow dance. Am I gonna be lonely for the rest of my life? -- sort of sums up how I feel when I'm dating strangers and not real lovers.

i dated a girl we all call "wellesley" (because that's where she was an undergrad when we met) for about a year from the middle of my first year of law school until the middle of my second year (plus a brief rekindling this past winter in my third year). now, when i describe this relationship, it's hard not to focus on the many red flags that are raised by the following: 1) she was five years my junior, 2) she had a boyfriend (but had permission to date women), 3) she'd never been with a girl before, 4) she was wicked catholic, and 5) she was in the army national guard reserves. however, she was also 1) one of the kindest, most compassionate people i've ever known, 2) insanely beautiful with a body that would not quit, 3) completely uninhibited sexually, 4) spontaneous and fun to be with, and 5) totally into me for some strange reason. so we had fun. it started out as just a no-strings, casual sort of thing, but we became good friends (with benefits, obviously) and she eventually left her boyfriend and declared herself a big lesbo. we never tried having a real relationship, but that's mostly because we were smart enough to recognize that we were just too different and wanted different things, and were content to just enjoy what we did have and not ruin it by trying to make it something it wasn't. we're still good friends and i can say it was a truly fun and enlightening period of my life - made me deal with all sorts of my issues regarding religion and the military and i think i came out the better for it. so, there you have it, one no-strings fling that was honest and respectful and averted disaster.

tell us about an encounter you had with some sort of celebrity/idol/hero in which you acted like an absolute spaz.

Okay. I recently saw a band called Sponge in Hollywood. I have loved this band since they released their first album in 1994. I NEVER imagined that I would actually see this band play live because they were basically post-grunge, one-hit wonders. First album on a major label, second album didn't sell so well, now they're on an indie label in Michigan. You can only buy their albums online. They pretty much only play in that area. So, miracuously I got the opportunity to see them in LA in May. I saw them in some grungy bar/club and there were about 25 people there by the time they arrived on stage at 1:00 a.m. My brother and I were in the front, pressed up against the stage. We were the only ones. We were freaking out, screaming, jumping, etc. We were the only ones doing so. The lead singer put the microphone in my face and let me sing parts of songs, and I think I might have screamed, "Fuck yeah!" once or twice. I was completely intoxicated by that point. I bet those people in "Hollywood" thought we were fucking idiots.

Do you think we are facing The End Times? Why or why not?

"Bread" by Tulipp, because of any number of things; right now what comes to mind is the love scene in the kitchen.

Wonderful quotes in it, lovely imagery and writing that went beyond entertaining and in to truly touching without ever straying into pools of treacle.

It also captured two very distinct things simultaneously: how a series of events and experiences can be so bizarre from the outside yet have incredible emotional impact and complexity; and at the same time how challenging negotiating a mundane life can be. They both take skill.

Have you ever baked bread and who taught you how?

I love baking bread. I do it every few months. More often in the winter. And strangely enough, I taught myself how when I was a teenager. Me and some cookbooks and a number of very dense first tries. Not the most usual teenage passtime, I know, but I was an odd little bird.
In the 15 or so years since then, I have taught a lot of other people how to bake bread. It is a wonderful thing to do with a friend or a love. All the rising time ensures long talks and relaxing. I love that you cannot rush it. And few things smell better to me than yeast and dough rising in a warm kitchen.

Well, that depends on what you mean by "home". My personal definition of home is the place I feel happiest, most accepted and most comfortable. For me, that place is very specific - anywhere with Kaie.
Thus, the scent that reminds me most of what I consider my home is satsuma oil - her perfume.
However, if you mean home as "the place one grew up", I'd have to say... cigarette smoke. DuMaurier light, to be specific. For some reason, that particular brand of cigarette has always been comforting to me. Possibly because it's what my dad smokes, and he's always been very comforting for me.

So, because of that last question:

How do you define "home"? - I want a well thought out answer. What does the word "home" mean to you?

Home to me is where my family are, those that I am actually related to and those I am not but consider part of my family, evenmore than some to whom I am related to. There is a piece of elastic that attaches me to it, where ever I have lived I have always bounce backed. Home is a place I can be me. A place where no one had any assumptions about me. Home is my safety net that I run to when I need; help, comfort, support, people who know me, my own space. Homw is somewhere that I don't know how I could live without.

Favourite peice of clothing? I'm going to go with my button-fly bluejeans. Easy to get in and out of, only cost me ten bucks at Value Village, exceptionally comfortable, and they make my ass look great, too.

Okay, slightly cliche'd question, but here goes:

I'd be a cat.
they're shy and are always aware of the danger, but they need an unveliebable amount of love and care. :kitty
another reason is that once I had a cat, it was older than me and she was always like my sister.my old sister, who warned my mother everytime I started crying and who showed up for a while when I went to bed to make sure I was safe. I swear, she was telepatic and cared a lot for me. I always knew. I lost her 'cause she became too old, but I felt so linked to her that i'll always have a kitti inside me.

All The Way To Heaven by Melissa Etheridge. It's about finding little echoes of heaven in the fun stuff, and the mundane stuff. And it's about wanting to make sure that someone else tastes the freedom that true love brings.

I want to lose all your demons and go
I want to tear off your chains 'cause I know
All the way to heaven is heaven
Caught between the spirit and the dust
All the way to heaven is heaven
Deep inside of us

And Melissa is hot, and brave and talented and inspirational. And hot. I mentioned that, right? :-D

To visit for a day...

I love to visit the ocean, walk the beach looking for worn beach glass and starfish and tidal pools, wade in the water. I like how it smells and how it makes my mind clear, but I live so far away.

I also like to hike in the hills, another thing that I don't do as much as I used to growing up. Again, not many places/ways to do that where I live now without a long drive, but I *do* go sevearl times a year.

... and the thing I do regularly that I like most is to visit with my friend Maria. I ride my bike there sometimes, which is nice ...but always there is a garden to explore and we make unusual and tasty and healthy food dishes and laugh and laugh.

Tell us about a friend - someone you love or miss or who makes you laugh, or maybe someone you want to be better friends with.
I am, you know.
