Thanks for the tip - the version I saw was the unrated version and I was already planning on getting that one. Thanks for the website suggestion! :D

Definitely, a classic scene. Made my Mom fall in love with the movie, made me take the tab off the tape after she saw it. A rare occurence. ;)

Haven't been back to the board for a little while, but will see if I can dig up that article about Portia.

To be honest, I'm not used to getting replies to my posts, so I just didn't check!

Commercial subtext?

Postby Gatito Grande » Tue Jun 25, 2002 11:35 pm

I saw an ad for the first time this evening, and I was wondering if anyone else saw the subtext I saw.

It was for Sears, and it showed two women (one white, one African-American), both 30s-ish, in a kitchen. The black woman has "a look" on her face, and the white woman says "I couldn't decide which one." We then see that there are 5 refrigerators in the kitchen! The white woman then says "I think I'll go w/ the white one" (all the fridges are white).

The women's ages did not suggest college-age "roomies" but the look on the black woman's face (She's insane: "I said 'quirky'" ;) ) suggested that she wasn't just visiting.

I saw strong hints of couple-dom. Anyone else see this?

Hey Kendahl...I have the R version, and went to videoflicks.com like you said, but it only pulls up the R version. Where else can I get the Unrated? I absolutely love this movie, and this is the first I've heard of an unrated version :eek

If any other Kitties might know where to score one, please, I would be forever in your debt :bounce

I'm not really sure what to tell you...the unrated or 18rating in Canada version has the picture on the cover where they are laying together in bed with all of the red sheets around them and Petra is lying asleep on Camilles stomach...are you sure that's not the one for sale? I'll check some sites and be back in touch....

Edit to add: I checked Videoflicks. That is the right one, you can tell by it's cover..The R version has the cover where you can see Camille's face and the back of Petra's head

I ordered the unrated version at Half.Com by Ebay. There were a few vendors selling new, unopened videos. I only ordered it recently so it has not arrived yet.

There was another place selling them, I don't recall the name of the website, but it was something like lesbosmut.com. I couldn't bring myself to order from them. And, I don't know if it's true, but on this site they state that some people are selling the R version of the movie in the Unrated cover, and charging more for it.

Happy hunting!

I got my copy from Amazon.com and it was a used one but in perfect condition. If you're buying directly from sellers like from ebay just ask if its the unrated version, don't go by the picture they show.

So, if the cover is the way you described it and there's a red 18 on it it should be the good version, right?

Then why does the German rating say it's okay to see it from 12 years on :confused

Lost and Delirious

Postby Scoobiedoo » Sun Jun 30, 2002 5:54 pm

Just a little shout out to all those Aussie kitties out there who have foxtel (cable) that Lost and Delirious is on this month, July on the 4th and the 7th. Not sure what times. You better check. I think it premiered last month but I missed it.

However, I warn you, do not see this movie unless:

A) You feel like you want to be severely depressed or

B) You have a Piper Perabo obsession.

Otherwise, it's probably not going to be the most uplifting experience for you.

Cheers

Oh I agree, don't watch this movie unless you want to be severly depressed by the end. I must admit I went into the movie knowing the ending (vaguely) but it was still such a depressing ride (despite the fact I fell in love with Piper Perabo... or perhaps because of that :lol ).

TATU

-- Jon Wiederhorn

Parents who were unsettled by Britney's sexual schoolgirl pout, queasy after seeing 3LW's new revealing outfits and red-faced upon hearing the naughty lyrics of Khia's "My Neck, My Back (Lick It)" might have a cerebral hemorrhage when they see the video for Tatu's "All the Things She Said."

The clip depicts Julie Volkova and Lena Katina, the sensual 17- and 18-year-old members of Moscow's hot new girl-pop group, holding hands and kissing while a wall of throbbing electronic beats, spectral keyboards and buzzing guitar whirl around the groping gals.

You Hear It First:

Tatu

MTV News RealVideo Report

The song, like many from their upcoming U.S. debut album, is about the excitement, emotionality and self-consciousness of young lesbian love: "When they stop and stare don't worrying me/ 'Cause I'm feeling for her what she's feeling for me/ I can try to pretend, I can try to forget/ But it's driving me mad/ Going out of my head."

"We are singing about our love. Love between girl and girl," said Katina, working with her limited command of English.

For Tatu, talk is cheap. The visuals — suggestive photos, performances in panties and tiny tank tops — are what has helped the group sell over a million copies of their 2001 Russian album, 200 Po Vstrechnoy, which translates to 200 Kilometers an Hour in the Wrong Lane. Their racy image has been carefully crafted by the group's producer and manager, Ivan Shapovalov, who makes Lou Pearlman look downright virtuous. A former psychologist and advertising executive, Shapovalov glanced out at a sea of suggestive teen pop and experienced an epiphany. So he put together Tatu and tried injecting a stagnant genre with new forbidden fruits, pushing buttons and ruffling feathers, but stopping just short of being outright lewd.

"Our producer is a very good psychologist, and that's why he can feel all the feelings that we have," Katina said.

Katina, whose dad is a successful Russian musician and songwriter, grew up in Moscow, as did Volkova, an only child raised by a middle-class family. The two met in the children's pop group Neposedi. She and Katina were then contacted by Shapovalov, and led to the world of softcore lesbian pop.

Of course, selling sex is nothing new. But there's some question whether Tatu actually ascribe to the sapphic lifestyle they project: While management has eagerly released titillating details to the press — such as how the girls insist on a double bed in their hotel rooms — none of the group's representatives will affirm that Volkova and Katina are the genuine article. And while the girls might love to kiss, they're not about to tell.

"Every song is about our life," concluded Katina. "Everybody thinks we are lesbians. But we just love each other."

The also have a video clip available from the news broadcast, now granted they are bordering on jailbait, but you have to admire the purity of it ;)

Two thoughts:

Why is it that queer stuff is always treated as if it is the worst thing there could possibly be? Why is "softcore lesbian pop" going to cause cerebral hemorrhages (which, in fact, are often fatal), while the straight stuff will only cause unsettledness, queasiness, and blushing?

I feel so sad for these girls. They're too young to have any idea what they're getting into with their Svengali.

Especially since their svengali does make them fall in into every possible lesbians-for-straight-males clichés, it's pathetic.

I "discovered" tatu a while ago, while downloading songs that have "robot" in the title (long story). Anyway. My curiosity got the better of me, and I did some research on the girls. And it really made me sad to see how badly those girls are used. I mean, their choregraphies include kissing and ass-grabbing, which wouldnt be too bad, i guess, if they weren't dresses in tight white tank tops with nothing underneat+white panties; and they're constantly getting thrown water at.

So while the visual results, are, well, as they're meant to be, I guess, it's still very fucking degrading for those girls. And they're minors, as well. *sigh*

Oh, oh, and! I just remembered... In one of their videos, they steal a giant truck and run away from society; proceding to kill some folks on their way. So they manage to make them look both crazy /and/ evil. And this is further emphasized by baby piccies of them, spread throughout the video, as to show us how "good lil' girls" have turned so bad.

I was really angry when I saw that.

For the curious ones, there's two sites (unfortunately in russian, but you get to see how much their imagery get played upon/how sick this is):

the official site

unnoficial, more piccies.

And, their music sucks. It's horrible, really.

Re: Other Lesbians in the Media

Postby urnofosiris » Sat Jul 13, 2002 4:43 pm

Okies, in another thread one of our Belgian Kitties (sorry totally slipped my mind which Belgian Kitty exactly :blush ) mentioned a lesbian couple in Costa, a Dutch soap that takes place in touristy sunfilled Spain, and centers around all the hip pretty happening Dutch youths that vacation and work there. That's about all I know as I have not watched it's first season seeing as I was still somewhat preoccupied with BtVS, but I now have some 50 minutes of extra free time each week so I will watch season 2 (or 3 I am not even sure how long this soap has been running, heh). Anyhow, today there was a pic featured on the front page of my somewhat sensationalistic newspaper. The aforementioned ladies are tying the knot. Ahem, I have scanned a few pics from another page and translated a few quotes by the actresses in question. It did make me smile, a bit wistfully. If only.

One of the actresses, Katja Schuurman, only wanted to return for the next season if she could get married to her onscreen girlfriend, played by actress Peggy-Jane de Schepper.

Some comments, not translated too literally as that would sound really odd, believe you me:

========================================================

Katja: "I just *had* to get married. That was my condition for returning in Costa. I loved going back to Salou, but I wanted to do something special with my part. I wanted to get married, preferably in one of those Sissi-dresses. That was my childhood dream."

Neither actresses had any trouble playing a lesbian marriage couple.

Peggy-Jane: "We're living in the year 2002. It really does not matter whether two people of the same gender or opposite genders marry each other. As long as they'll be happy. I don't think anyone will have a problem with this. Although personally I would have preferred to have worn a white tux. But Katja wanted two Sissi dresses. it gives a more surprising picture, so ok."

Katja: "I really love this storyline. I also really like Peggy-Jane. No problems whatsoever. It was not really erotic though. because the dresses were so huge we could barely touch each other's lips."

======================================================

The links to the pics, like I said, the scans are from a newspaper so the quality was poor to begin with, geocities, a bit temperamental, you have to either left click, hold and drag and drop the link into your browser's address bar, or you can right click and copy and paste the link. :)

The rings please.

Hands!

If only we would have been so lucky.
