Friday evening I went to a cycling traffic safety class and then to the road portion on Saturday morning. I can't even say how much more confident and stable and safe I feel now. I learned a lot in the class room about how to negotiate traffic. And then Saturday morning we did about an hour and a half of drills on ways to ride, signal, stop, start, and do certain moves to avoid trouble. I was definitely very very nervous but I did every single maneuver and was very happy with it. We also went on a ride together in riding form and then had to each change a flat (which I'd never done) and pass a written test. I'm so glad I went.

Let's see. Sunday we went kayaking as a family. It was Chiara's first time. I probably did the most paddling because Rachel was holding the baby a lot. It was frustrating because we had trouble steering. Still fun and an hour of paddling.

Tuesday I did 15 minutes on the wave machine, then 45 on the elliptical. I don't remember distances.

Today 30 on the stair machine: 3.06 miles, 141 flights. 30 on the elliptical 3400 steps. 2.46 miles. My HRM seems to have a dead battery in the strap so I need to get a new one.

Hmm. I'm a bit behind. I worked out Friday and Saturday I think. Then... Tuesday? 30 minutes on the wave machine (11 km) and 30 on the elliptical: 2.51 miles.

Then today the whole family took a bike ride. We rode to the post office (about 2.5 miles?) with both kids in the trailer behind my bike so that's an extra 80 pounds or so (although I'm sure physics means part was directed toward the road). Then Chiara got on the seat on Rachel's bike so I rode the rest of the way with Ash in the trailer. I'm guessing the total ride was about 15 miles or so. My HRM said 1:36 (including the time we spent mailing the envelope), 151 av hr. 902 calories. I think that's the highest calories I've ever recorded in a workout.

Today:

Stair machine 30 minutes. 153 flights. 3.11? 3.21? miles.
Elliptical. 30 minutes. 3600 steps. 2.51 miles.

158 av hr. 642? calories.

I took the day off yesterday (and ate pie and other junk food)!

Today we took the kids in the trailer/bike seat to the super Target and HOme Depot they built about 5 (4.7 miles each way) from our house. I had both kids in the trailer for a few minutes, then just Ash. I timed the home trip and got 36 minutes, 165 av hr (very very high) and 400 calories. So total might have been 750 calories? 70 minutes? Very good workout and fun.

I'm exceedingly tired because my period is due so I've slept in two days this week (until 5:30 that is). But I went to the gym today. I can't say I pushed it:

Elliptical 60 minutes. 4.56 miles. 8100 steps. low calories.

Woah, sounds like you're going great with your training, Deb!

I've been doing Jillian Michael's DVDs for some time now, which are great but I really wanted to take the next step.

I just started P90X, I've only been doing it for a week but it is frickin' excellent. Not for the faint hearted I'm telling ya. It's definitely a good work out for someone who can spare an hour in their day and hates going to the gym.

I can't really spare an hour to work out on top of cycling 80mins a day but I fit it in because it's worth it.

So today I did chest, arms and back, ab ripper X and just because it's Saturday I did the Kenpo X workout too (I am so totally un-coordinated!)

Alcy - What's the P90X? Is that Playstation? We've got Wii Fit but the workout has too much fucking talking and shit for the time it takes. If you could like set it to be fast forward, it would be a really good workout. Anyway, I've been doing well with my workouts but I'm not seeing a lot of change in terms of weight. I don't know if it's my diet with too many carbs or too much cardio and not enough strength training... But I will say that I feel really good, just bigger than I want to be.

Yesterday morning I did the stair machine (hard one, not the easier one) for 30 minutes: 106 flights and 2.44? miles. Then ellipticaled 40 minutes. 3.75 miles. 5700 steps. I was really hauling ass, even at the end so I was very happy with that.

Deb - P90X is a series of interval training DVD workouts developed by a guy called Tony Horton. Basically it's one or two workouts per day, working on a different type of training each day.

Yesterday morning I did an hour of plyometrics and today's workout is shoulders, arms and abs - which I'll do tonight.

Yesterday: Wave machine 20 minutes: 6.85 km. Elliptical 40 minutes. Don't remember the distance.

Today - Elliptical 60 minutes. 7400 steps. 5.08 miles. 474? Calories. I'm getting faster but not getting my hr as high which I suppose is good. I need to start to concentrate on speed and pushing myself more I think.

We took a family bike ride to the Target again this morning. We found a slightly shorter and less trafficked route. I had Ash in the carrier the whole way and 20-25 pounds of groceries and school supplies on the way back as well. I timed the ways separately:

On the way there: I burned 356 or something calories and forgot the av hr but it was like 35 minutes. ON the way home 41 minutes, 158 av hr. 410 calories. Very good ride.

Did the P90X Plyometric workout tonight, an hour of jump squats, frog leaps an other exciting plyo moves...not sure how many calories I would have burned but probably a lot!

Alcy - sounds awesome!

Let's see. Yesterday Elliptical 60 minutes. I think I went like 4.83 miles? Today Wave machine 11.55 KM in 30 minutes, then 2.31 miles on the ellpitical in 30 minutes. Interestingly my HR did not go high. Some times it's like that. I was working hard and going fast but my HR didn't bump.

Tomorrow's my day off work and working out.

60mins arms and shoulders workout tonight plus 15mins of 'Ab ripper X' - 11 different ab moves with 25 reps each. It is one tough ab workout!

I have an hour and a half of yoga tomorrow morning, not sure I will last. When I did the workout last week I only manage 45mins before I was bored. Then I have soccer practice in the evening so will be a good exercise day tomorrow.

Alcy - 11 ab exercises? Wow. That sounds awesome.

I did wave machine for 18 minutes today. That was 5.85 km then 45 on the elliptical. 3.65 or 3.85 miles or something. I don't remember av hr, maybe 560 calories or something. Now I'm at the in-laws which means not much working out and eating a lot of crap while I'm here. I hate not having more control over my food. Blech.

Yep, that ab workout is one tough sucker, very effective though. I've never seen my external obliques before!

I managed to complete the whole hour and a half of yoga. Very pleased with myself. I did some more today, along with an hour of kenpo (boxing/martial arts workout).

Tomorrow is supposed to be my rest day...but I have soccer, so it's not really going to be a rest!

Alcy - so what's up with your new renewed sense of ... I don't know. Everything? I mean you're writing a ton and kicking ass working out? Totally awesome.

I went for an early morning walk/run out here at the farm. No idea the distance or anything but it felt good. Unfortunately, my back got sore from the hard pavement and I got a blister from walking. I hope to go out again tomorrow morning before we head home. It will all depend on stuff. My wife kind of woke up very assholey about why I hadn't gone already. Apparently she wanted me to go walking on county roads while it was still dark. But I digress.

It's called being single and having way more time on my hands!

Off to soccer shortly, wish me luck!

Oh. I didn't know you were single again. My condolences or congratulations as appropriate. Did you ever notice that it's hard to know how to react to that? You know? So imagine I said the appropriate thing.

Good luck.

I woke up very early this morning and couldn't sleep. I went to the gym a little early and did 30 minutes on the stair machine (a very hard one) 100 flights, 2.11 miles. Then 40 on the elliptical for 3.31 miles (or something) and 5000 steps. It was 156 av hr and 772 calories. Also did some stretching and crunches. I'm planning to go tomorrow but since I've ben up since 2:45 this morning, we'll see about that.

Yesterday I did body pump (like a fast-paced class of weight lifting). It is a good class and I should go more often. Today I wanted to do cardio but I'm just plain worn out. One of the dogs has been sick and I haven't gotten much sleep including last night. Tomorrow I'll do cardio or more body pump.

Definitely congratulations in my particular case!

Did 1 hr 30 mins of yoga last night, had difficulty falling out of Warrior Three constantly but I find balance postures really hard because of a bad ankle.

Have legs, back and ab ripper tonight.

Alcy - Congrats then!

I can't remember which Warrior pose is which but my balance is atrocious so I'd fall out of it. I have trouble doing lunges because my balance is so bad.

Anyway, today I did 20 minutes on the stair machine 69 flights, 1.38 miles then 50 on the elliptical for 5500 steps, 4.69 miles. I'm trying to challenge myself to up my speed.

All in all this week has pretty much sucked for workouts. Both dogs have been sick all week and I've slept terribly because I've either been up letting them out or spending time in the night cleaning up shit off the floor. Gross and tiring. Boo hiss.

We had a nil all draw in soccer today - we were actually really happy with that because the team we played were at the top of the table. Horrible conditions, really windy but I played alright.

My rest day from the work out series today (not really a rest with a soccer game though!), I have core synergystics tomorrow.

Today I was going to do body pump but I was running late. Ironic since I couldn't sleep and was up at 3:00 but didn't go to the gym because I wanted to go to the class. Then at the last moment, I ran a few minutes late. Anyway, I did the wave machine for 32 minutes which was 12.65 km and then ellipticaled for 30 minutes which was 2.45 miles.

I think I'll take the day off tomorrow. A friend wanted me to cardio but I have worked cardio 3 days in a row now.

Woo Hoo: Bench Press 100 pounds! :party

And 6 reps, no less!

To think that a couple of years ago, I tried to bench press 100 lbs, couldn't, and was so traumatized by the experience (w/o a spotter, I ended up w/ the bar on my gut, and tipping one side to the floor: I don't recommend this :paranoid), that I didn't try it again till now. 6 reps: who'd a thunk it? :smug

GG I can't really measure my pecs---don't know my chest size, sans boobs! :lol---so to celebrate my success (and my unseemly vanity ;-)) I measured my biceps instead: they're now both up to 15 inches, an inch bigger than when I last measured 'em... :D Out

GG - Woo hoo indeed!

I ellipticaled with my friend today. 60 minutes. 7450 steps. 5.10 miles. I want to be consistently doing >5 miles in a hour now.

I'm also going to do the One hundred push-ups and too hundred sit-ups programs. Last night I did the pre-test for the push-ups: 19 which isn't considered bad. I'll post about how it goes.

1hr 30 mins of yoga today.

I'm definitely improving. I can't see myself being able to do 'crane' anytime soon but my other balancing postures are getting heaps better, even on my right foot which is my injured one.

That 200 hundred sit ups programme sounds interesting Deb. I wonder how many I can do. Maybe 100 I think, 200 might be pushing it!

The sit-ups were shockingly easy. I did 165 and could have done maybe 5 more but was really bored. Still, I'm going to stick with every other day push-ups and sit-ups and see what happens.

Today I did 24 minutes on the wave machine for 9.3 km and then 36 on the elliptical for some steps and 2.85 miles. It wasn't a big thrill workout and again, my HR stayed low which is a little strange.

Anyway, then I got my period at lunch time (early) and now I'm feeling grumpy and crappy. So I've decided to sleep in tomorrow.
