It's preformance weekend, MKF! 3/26-28/04

Postby BohemianKitten » Fri Mar 26, 2004 3:51 pm

Greetings Kittens! This weekend is preformance weekend for me. Going to my baby's show tonight, have a show of my own tomorow, then off to my little Caroline's (baby-sittie) pagent. Then, I've got another run of my own show Monday!

I was just wondering how many other Kittens are into the acting world. If so, what play and things have you done?

Not an actor, but I am a musician and I'm playing a family-friendly concert this Sunday, which would be great except there will be small children in the audience. Actually, it's good because I get to wear jeans!

I'm not an actress, but my niece is! She's done three national tours in the last three years. She's currently out on the national tour of "Grease". She's playing Frenchie, and Frankie Avalon joins the tour in major cities to reprise his role as Teen Angel. She's having a ball doing "Beauty School Dropout" with him and he's really a nice guy!

Her previous tours have been "Godspell" and "The Buddy Holly Story". She's been making commercials since she was a little girl and has done extra work for "All My Children" and "Saturday Night Live".

Good luck with your peformances!

I'm spending the weekend reading plays. I'm a director's personal assistant at the moment, and an out-of-work actor.

I've done a bunch of independent/student films no one would have possibly heard of, and regional theatre.

rockin topic. made my day.

Oh man, no not me. I am so not a performer. The thought of it fills me with anxiety. I remember as a kid being made to perform and I hated every second of it. That's why as a teacher now, I really can't force kids to go and perform. I seriously do not push that.

Oh wow, performing! Its the best thing in the world! I am such a performer. And so is just about everyone else I know. My best friend went to audition for Drama school (RADA, omg) today, but he won't know how it went for ages and ages. My other 2 bestest friends in the world have a performance on Monday night, and the girl that I'm madly in love with is an aspiring actress. She's really talented too. The last semi-pro thing that I acted in was a production of Romeo and Juliet, as Juliet, which was amazingly cool, cos its my favorite play ever. But it doesn't matter to me whether I'm acting or dancing. I was a ballet dancer for 11 years, and was training at the Royal Ballet School, but my career was ruined when I dislocated my knee. We went to see several specialists, but they all told me that I wouldn't be able to dance seriously again, which broke my heart, but it has given me more time to devote to the acting, which isn't my first love, but its close. With being in school and everything, it doesn't give Ben (the afore-mentioned best friend) and I much time to pursue the TV and film acting that we really want to get into, so over Easter we're gonna sit down and write a film together. It's not the first time we'll have written together, and most of the time we bounce film and TV ideas off each other, but its the first time we're gonna physically be toghether when we're writing. I'm a little worried, but at least it is just a re-work of a TV series we wrote 2 years back, basicially condensed down from seven 42 minute TV shows to a 2 hour movie. Once we've done that, we're actually gonna film it. We have some actors (including ourselves, oc,) lined up, and a producer and editor, but we will need a hell of a lot of actors. The pay is likely to be nothing, but anyone in England that might be interested, I don't know exactly what's gonna happen yet, but, if you get in touch with me ( hansonrule4eva@msn.com ) I'll keep you up to date, and if there are any opportunities in the film (which there almost certainly will be), I'll send you a script to look over, and maybe we could come to some sort of agreement? It's pretty much all sketchy right now, but over the next few weeks, things start being more confirm-y.

Luv

Rachel

Oh My god, Rachel!!! RADA!? That's like my dream. Tell your friend I wish his every luck! And super luck to you for your script-writting. Damn my living in America! I would so love to help!

I just got back from my first show, and it went really really good. Everyone remembered lines, songs, the whole bit. It was great! I just hope Monday goes as well!

I'm a flutist, and I would have to say that I have a love/hate relationship with performing. I enjoy it very much when I'm onstage by myself, or with just a pianist accompanying me. I don't like to perform as a member of an orchestra, because I tend to want to please the conductor (or at least keep him/her off my back), and I want my colleagues in the orchestra to respect me. So, that's some added pressure that I put on myself. Most professional orchestral musicians feel the same way: they really don't care too much what the audience thinks of their playing, they need to please the conductor only enough to keep their jobs, but they often care very much whether or not the other members of the orchestra think they're good.

I like to encourage my flute students to perform in recitals, and a lot of them end up enjoying it very much. But I always tell them that I will not try to force them to perform if they really don't want to. Occasionally, I'll teach someone who gets very stressed at the mere idea of playing in front of other people, even in informal situations; some of these students can eventually learn to become more comfortable with the idea of performing, and some can't. It's important to me that my students enjoy learning to play the flute, and if they'd prefer that I be their only audience, that's their choice and I have to honor it.

not too long ago i was the ringmaster for a drag slash burlesque slash circus that i directed as a final project for my class. it was hott and also edutainment. this quarter, i move into the scary realm of visual arts - i'm moving out of performing gender and into imagining books. i've done so much more performance than visual art; it's scary stuff.
