A Miss Kitty Fantastico survey

Postby chilled monkey » Thu Feb 06, 2003 3:59 pm

I've been thinking a lot recently about Miss Kitty Fantastico. This board and this group takes it's name from her; she's very well known to us all. Yet she only appeared in three episodes, and one of those was a dream sequence. I wonder if anyone would share their thoughts on:-

1) Why did the writers decide to give our favourite witches a kitty in the first place? What was her signifigance?

2) Why didn't they include her in more episodes? Why did she just disappear like that?

Hello Kittens-

I think the first part of the question is answered by witches have cats and it gave Tara's character a touch of depth and was a sign of her basic stability.

The technical reason we didn't see MKF anymore was Kittens do this strange thing called growing up fast. There are ways to write around it. I also think the cat people at ME never got to put in more MKF because Tara was a plot device/replacement character.

We loved W/T partly because AB and AH had that wonderful unknown synergy between actors known as chemistry and I think AB and MKF had the same thing. I think it's no coincidence Amber has a cat and dog of her own. Tara with MKF just felt right, and when W/T/MKF came together the actors skills and talent made us see a tiny filament of family.

It's to ME's shame that could not see what they had in that black and white bundle of fur.

Thanks for this thread. Damn I want a kitty again!

1. they thought pussy jokes were funny.

they wanted the girls to commit to each other without having them move in together.

It sort of represented willow's sexuality what with the dog boy jokes spike threw around.

It represented their relationship as something they would both be taking care of.

Of course in Family , the cat became Tara.

And in restless your guess is as good as mine.

2. They never had the nerve to fully spend enough time on w/t. I always wanted a connection between miss kitty in restless and dawn as the key and that felines could spot the key. Oh well.. too bad.

It sucks that they didn't do more with MKF's character.....they could have done real cool stuff with it.

Plus she was adorable, and in my view that qualifies as enough reason to stay in the show :) But then again, Tara didn't stay in the show and she was adorable......:(

Hmm depressing myself now

Well, I kinnda think having them get a cat just seemed... uh, how can I be politicaly corect about this - witches, lesbians, herbel tea and kittens are all part of the same packege, y'know? I think it was a nice touch.

I thought MKF was part of the whole symbolic/ metaphorical nature of W/T's initial relationship. So "Kitty Fantastico" basically meant "good pussy," i.e., W/T had consummated their relationship after NMR (I know JW says the Flaming O represented their first time, but I always took it to be after NMR; besides I don't trust/ believe JW on just about anything :angry ). Back then, I felt like you needed some kind of decoder to figure out what was going on between the two characters sometimes. :sigh

Maybe as W/T's relationship slowly became less metaphorical and more open in the fifth (and especially the sixth) seasons, the writers felt less need to have MKF there as a kind of symbol to represent their sexuality.

I'm feeling all academic now. ;)

Okay ,this may sound somewhat trivial but MKF was one more reason for me to like Tara. She's the only one of the scoobies that had any interest in being a pet owner. Sorry I don't count Willow and her fish that Angel offed.

I think it was the pussy jokes. I mean, really, how much more junior high can you get?

Willow: Hey Buff. One more thing. Buffy: Yeah? Willow: I’m gay. Buffy: Okay, Will. Xander owes me ten bucks.

I think MKF was symbolic of the level of commitment of the relationship. I was going to add more to that but I kind of lost my train of thought.

Pussy jokes? In the show? Did I miss something? (I'm not sure I want to know).

I think it was just a witch thing (and pets are stereotypical lesbian things . . . actually, stereotypically gay male also. With the theory of being a child substitute, when LGBTs didn't have kids as often as they do today). MKF's intro in NMR really was the perfect gimmick, to signify the depth of WT's relationship in that pivotal ep.

The highest tribute to an actor is the extent they bring out the best in their co-stars: by that measure, that little black-n-white deserves great kudos for its scene w/ Aly in The Yoko Factor. :applause

GG "You cannot have any more catnip. You have a catnip problem!" I still crack up every time I think of that scene :lol Out

And we can make kitty go bonkers, with catnip and stuff?

Fur kids are still kids.

"I'm glad she's ours. Yours." "She can be ours, if you want."

(That one's a misquote, I'm sure, but. . .)

MKF was WT's baby. Their claddagh ring, maybe. . . A Real Symbol of their Big Love. And she was fuzzy, too.
