Avatars, feel free to take/use/add text/etc. Update 3/3/08.

Postby thiswomanswork » Fri Feb 15, 2008 4:05 pm

Well, I can link now, so I thought I'd share my photoshop obsession... err, I mean, some avatars I've made. :)

I also eagerly take requests.

The first batch are from 'Gryphon', aka 'Attack of the Gryphon', aka (to me) 'Amber with a Sword ((swoon))'. I made them at the same time as I made my current avatar.

Feel free to take, but no direct linking, please! :)

I was messing around with some video captures from 'Family' and realized I just had to make this avatar.

OK, this one is special, so it gets a story & it's own post.

Image

Back when I was a teenager, I happened upon an article (in Cosmo, of all places) by Cynthia Heimel. Despite the fact that it was titled 'How to find a man (I'm serious)', and I had no interest in finding a man, I read it.

It was fantastic. It changed my life.

It went through all the ridiculous cliches about 'what men want', presenting them directly even when they blatantly contradicted each other. And then, essentially, it said, this is all BS. I'm going to tell you, right now, how to get a mate, exactly what you have to do.

Nothing.

The next couple of paragraphs were what really stayed with me. I'm going to quote them:

[blockquote]"If he’s the wrong man, you can turn yourself inside out with wiles and perfume and French-maid’s outfits and nothing will work. You’ll never get him, you’ll never keep him. You don’t have a chance.

If he’s the right man, you can have greasy hair, spinach between your teeth, and your skirt on inside out, and he’ll still be entranced and follow you to the ends of the earth.

You don’t have to believe me, but what I say is absolutely true. You just have to follow your own personal, weird, goofy little star and some poor sucker is going to come along and die for you." [/blockquote]

That's what I'm doing. I'm going through life following my own goofy little star. I think it's a heck of a lot more fun than the alternatives! :) '7 things' reminded me of that article, a bit, so it just seemed right to make an avatar that celebrated that.

Anyway. Done rambling now. :)

ahhhh. Tell me which ones you particularly want bigger and I'll put them online and give you the links. :)

Also, let me know whether want the whole screen, or just what's in the avatars.

I'm glad you like the goofy star thing. If you want to read the whole article, you can find it on my livejournal. :)

Thank you Sera :)

Well I find her just stunning as a bride :)
And in the pool too, all shy yet michevious. And under the moon? Hihihi

Ok if I am honest I would say all the time.

But huh just her in the pool or as a bride or under the moon would be fine. And especially her, no need for the whole scene :blush

Good job with these....You've got a knack for Photoshop work. The very first one featuring Amber with her sword is the one I've liked best.

I just love the 'goofy little star' avatar, I was quite tempted to use it, but I do so like the one I have. Maybe I'll use it on my birthday as a treat if it's ok?

What I always found ironic about Cosmo was that it was always full of articles telling you to love yourself as you were etc, but then at the back there was nothing but ad's for cosmetic surgery. Well the UK version was.

In my defence I never bought the magazine, there was always a collection of them at the back of a classroom in school. I'm like the girl in 'Perfect Skin' by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, 'sexually enlightened by Cosmopolitian'. Thank god I moved on from that ;-)

That would make me really happy.

The US version was just as bad or worse. Fashion magazines are just awful, awful things as a general rule.

I'm glad you like.

It's nice to find someone so easily pleased ;-) A rare commodity in today's world!

I forgot say how good the other avatars were, especially those from 7 things...

That pool scene has certainly captured the kittens imaginations :blush

Hi,

I know it's been about 3 years and I'm not able to see all your cool art!

I'd love to have an avatar or some help designing a banner for my fics.

Can you refresh your links so I can see them?

Thanks so much!
