I had a theory that Roberta was brought back by the necromancer, and they were the ones conspiring against Willow. Then I reread, and realized that made no sense. :whistle

I'm glad that Captain Red is finally giving Dawn a chance. And Tara too, but that was obvious. Kat still needs a beatdown, though.

So, I finally had some time to sit down and get caught up on this fic and if I must say...WOW! You are very, very good at writing action and adventure. The detail that you are putting into the imagery is quite something.

I love that Captain Red is somewhat of a Robin Hood type of Pirate. Unfortunately, someone she has saved is about to stab her in the back...quite literally! I just hope that the conspirator doesn't recruit too many of the others. Maybe Tara can work a little bit of her magical mojo on them. ;-)

So, now I'm hooked and can't wait for an update!! More soon please!! :pray :pray

BLONDE CAVALIER I’m glad you’re finding the story so much fun. You’re right about Kat. I’d noticed there weren’t any W/T pirate stories on the site and, after seeing a particular picture of Willow on uberwillowtara.com used that as the starter for this adventure.

ARIEL You are far too kind with your praise, it is only because I have you as my beta that the story is as good as it is. As for juggling the balls, well there’s only three left now; Kat, Tara and the conspiracy but they’ll all be dealt with when the time comes and don’t worry, I’m constantly writing.

wimpy0729 I’m so glad you’re enjoying the adventure and I promise there will be much more action and mystery coming soon in the story.

Promthea128 You’re right about your theory, it makes no sense at all. It is an interesting idea though and I think I’ll use it in the adventure ‘yoink’. Don’t worry, I assure you Kat will eventually get the beat down she deserves.

Finey McFine Hi Finey, I’m glad you’re enjoying the story and that it has you hooked, I am just as hooked on Racing the Rain. Unfortunately the conspirator has already amassed quite a few crewmembers to join her and Tara won’t be able to work her magic, but to find out why you’ll just have to keep reading.

Chapter 8
Getting To Know You

“God’s I hate this, all this peeling vegetables, chopping food, cooking and washing and cleaning. I should be up there helping to trim the sails, steer the ship and going over the charts, checking them against the compass. Not stuck down here like a bloody…”

“Like a bloody w…what Dawn,” Tara asked pointedly, with a raised eyebrow, of the muttering, moaning teen girl who was ‘assisting’ her. It had been three days since the young blonde woman had been introduced to Buffy’s sister. Three days too many as far as Tara was concerned.
The two girls stood there looking at each other. One clearly had nothing but resentment in her eyes, both for the job and for Tara, under whose supervision she had been placed. The other girl’s eyes were tired and had dark rings under them. It was quite plain she was equally fed up with the whining teen’s complaints.

“W…w…well Dawn, you’re stuck down here like a what?” Tara asked of the girl under her charge.

“I’m not a bloody serving girl,” Dawn cried out finally after a long silence. “It’s alright for you, you’re used to working as a kitchen maid,” she sneered at Tara whose blue eyes flashed with anger at the offensive remark.

“H…how dare you speak to me that way,” Tara shouted back, her hands folded tight across her chest. “J…just because you h…have no love for the job it d…does not give you the r…right to talk to me that way. For someone who wants to be a p…pirate you have no r…respect for your fellow crew.” Her stammer had increased with the anger in her voice.

The young girl glared defiantly at the elder, having not even blinked once during Tara’s tirade.

“And w…w…what are y…you g…going to do about it?” Dawn questioned, cruelly mocking Tara’s stutter.

Tara smirked at the young girl “I c..could go and see the Captain and her first m…mate. They’ll probably make you stay in the crows nest on alert all n…night then work all day tomorrow with me here in the g…galley.”

“Y…you wouldn’t dare,” Dawn blanched at those words, fear obvious in her face.

“Try me.” Hearing that, and seeing the expression on the older girls face, Dawn knew that Tara was entirely serious about her threat to inform both Willow and Buffy of her actions. Dawn also realised that Willow and Buffy would both do what Tara suggested they’d do.

“Now, I d…don’t particularly expect you t…to like me or the j…job, but you can either get on with it or you can go to the C…Captain but my guess is sh…she’ll be more than likely to find you an even c…crappier job.”

Tara relaxed her pose but kept looking pointedly at Dawn.

Dawn looked straight back at Tara but could see that the blonde girl was not going to budge on this matter. Finally, after a five minute stare off between the girls, Dawn gave in and went back to peeling the mouldy potatoes, muttering under her breath how unfair it was.

****************************************************

Dawn was bored. Dawn was bored because Dawn was peeling vegetables again. Her hands were covered in lots of little cuts where the knife had slipped and caught her. Tara had offered to help heal them but the stowaway was still pissed off at her for threatening to go to Willow over her complaining.

Tara was cutting up some meat for that evening’s meal. Stew. Again. She was just as bored with the job though thankful that she seemed to be in a place where she was really appreciated and liked, even if not by her galley assistant.

She looked over at the pile of vegetables that Dawn had peeled and saw that there was enough for that evening’s meal.

“D…d…dawn, if you want to take a break you can go up on deck, you’ve done more than enough there.”

“I can?,” the other girl replied with obvious joy in her voice.

“Sure,” Tara replied with a smile, happy that the day was going so well.

“Woohoo,” Dawn replied and, dropping her knife on the table, dashed out of the galley and headed to the upper deck, Tara grinning after her. The blonde took one more look at the meat she was preparing and decided she deserved a break herself and followed Dawn to the deck.
*******************************************************
Tara stood at the ship’s side rail looking out over the blue waters that were reflected in the colour of her eyes. There was a fresh wind blowing that made her long blonde locks dance in the breeze and as she breathed in, she inhaled the tang of the salty sea air. There was something about this that Tara couldn’t put her fingers on but she just felt so comfortable here on this ship with its crew of friendly rogues. Somehow, it felt like home to the girl.

Both she and Dawn enjoyed their break from their chores in the kitchen where they had been busy preparing the meal for that evening, a beef stew. Tara hoped it would boost the spirits of the Slayer crew who were slightly disheartened, first for having lost three good crewmembers in the battle at Narina and second, the fact that no one knew where they were going.

Dawn was standing over at the other side of the ship watching with interest as her sister and Xander went through swordsmanship techniques with some of the girls who were new to voyages aboard the Slayer.
A tall raven-haired girl called Jules was at the wheel and Kat was in the crow’s nest, both she and Alex having had strict instructions to keep their distance from each other. Alex herself was going through a gun drill below decks whilst the rest of the crew were doing various jobs around the Slayer. Repairing ropes, sewing patches on to sailcloth, patching up the Slayer where it was possible or just resting in between their duties and sitting around chatting or sleeping below decks, getting ready for the night shift.

“Check your stance and make sure you are perfectly balanced? Remember if you’re fighting during a storm and the sea is rocking the ship beneath you, you could end up rolling with it and fall overboard or get yourself killed in numerous ways. Make sure that you are stable at all times, not just in battle because it could save your life.”

Once Buffy had finished speaking Xander went around the girls checking on their stances and making little adjustments where necessary. He noticed that one of the new girls, Simone, a new girl about Dawn’s age with sandy colored hair, kept looking sidelong at Dawn. He quietly took several steps back, the other girls gathered round watching in amusement as he unsheathed his sword and then…

“Raaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr,” he cried out, swiftly advancing on Simone. She suddenly looked up and saw Xander rushing towards her.

“Arrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhh,” she cried out and stumbled backwards, tripping over a coil of rope and falling flat on her ass. She put her hands up to cover her face and cringed, eyes shut tightly as she waited for the sword to strike her.

Next thing she heard was laughter all around her and slowly, Simone opened her eyes and uncovered her face. She saw Xander standing over her grinning like a Cheshire cat and shaking his head. He offered his hand and helped her up. She stared round at the crew who were laughing at her.

“That’s not fair,” she complained. “I wasn’t even ready.”

“The whole point of what we’re teaching you is to be ready.” Xander grinned at her. “The whole problem is you weren’t looking forward so you missed me coming to attack you.” He then turned to face the other girls, “remember, when you go into battle you need to be aware of what’s happening all around you and be ready to face anyone attacker who comes at you.”

“What if you’re fighting someone and there’s another coming up behind you?”

“Good point Tricia, Buffy would you care to field that one?”

“You have to rely on your crewmates. Remember, we here on the Slayer are not just a crew we are also a family. We watch out for one another at all times. Keep each other safe at all times. That’s how we survive.” Buffy looked at all the girls to ensure that they understood the idea of family and they nodded in confirmation.

“Now step back and make a decent sized ring and Xander and myself will demonstrate attacks and blocks.” The girls moved back to form a wide circle and watched as Buffy and Xander demonstrated their sword skills. They constantly pointed out what they were doing to attack or deflect said attack to their audience.

Simone stood by Dawn and continually gave her sidelong glances. Glances that Dawn returned and she gave a friendly smile to the new girl who moved a little closer to Dawn.

“I still don’t think it was fair,” Simone muttered to Dawn.

“Don’t worry, Xander wouldn’t have really hurt you. He may look fierce but he’s really a pussycat. If you like, later on I’ll show you some moves.”

“Would you really do that, with me?”

“Sure. You know the Captain would fight me herself but she’s too scared.”
Simone grinned at this until a loud voice from behind them boomed.

“So I’m too scared ta face the feared dangerous Dawn McGrew am I?
The two girls jumped and turned to face Willow who had come up on deck to take a break from the charts and maps in her cabin as they were beginning to make her eyes swim. She had first chatted with Tara and ensured that she was settled in before going to watch the class her two lieutenants were teaching. No one else had seen her so it had been easy for Willow to walk quietly up behind Dawn and Simone and then overhear their conversation.

“Well I got over my fear of ya and I’m here ta face ya now so do ya want ta cross swords with Cap’n Red or will ya take back yer false testimony?” Willow had an exaggerated growl in her voice and, though it was meant to sound menacing, there was no disguising the humor there or the twinkle in her eyes.

“I’ll never take it back Cap’n Red,” Dawn replied, drawing her self up to her full height as she played along with the joke. “You’re a fearful scoundrel and it’s time I took you down.”

“Is that so, well in that case you’d best draw your weapon and may the best girl win.”

“Oh don’t worry Captain, I will.” A loud hearty laugh from the gathered students followed Dawn’s reply as Willow shucked off her jacket, handing it to Xander to hold and rolled her shirtsleeves up to the elbow. Dawn approached Buffy to borrow her sword, a sabre. As it was handed to her, she waved it experimentally in the air as if to check the sword for balance even though Dawn didn’t really know what she was doing. As she practised swishing the blade around her sister tied her hair back into a ponytail to keep it from getting in her eyes.

Other girls who had been watching the supposed argument between Willow and Dawn with interest now came forward as they saw a sword fight was in the offing. As they all gathered round, the captain and her student stood in the centre, sword blades, sabre and cutlass, crossed ready for battle.

“Are ya ready ta get ya arse kicked proper? The redhead asked.
“En garde mon sewer poosycat.” The young girl placed the emphasis on the words sewer and poo.

With that, the swords struck each other once then the fight was on.
The two danced back and forth in the ring of girls, swords ringing out as they clanged together. It was hard to say who was dominating the fight as first Dawn then Willow seemed to be gain the upper hand. They started to get close to the ring of Slayerettes. Willow was constantly pushing Dawn back, not that the younger pirate wasn’t defending herself and fighting back fiercely, but she was unable to stop herself from being propelled backwards.

Dawn bumped into someone but didn’t dare turn round to see who, (it was Buffy) in case Willow scored a point off her. Desperate to push Willow back, Dawn swung her blade in a circle above her head and stepped forward but Willow simply dropped her own blade and Dawn froze to find Willow’s cutlass inches from her heart. “Bold gesture Dawnie, but ya left yerself open.” Dawn nodded shortly and took a deep, determined breath.
The fight continued, the swords striking sparks as the two both increased the speed and strength of their blows. Finally, the blades slid full length and the two combatants were pressed hilt to hilt, their straining faces only inches apart. Dawn took advantage of her height and simply gave Willow’s blade a furious push, expecting Willow to stagger backwards. Instead Willow had anticipated the move and stepped quickly to the side so that Dawn staggered forward and received a stinging slap on the butt from the flat of Willow’s cutlass.

The crew guffawed at the sight of Dawn’s ‘spanking’ and the girl’s face flushed with anger. They were circling, blades moving in a silver blur around the two combatants as the probed, struck and parried.
Willow attempted a slash at Dawn’s exposed side and Dawn saw her moment when Willow swung her blade at her. She bobbed her head down and sidestepped to avoid the blow, her ponytail swishing around her head.
Dawn then came up behind the redhead and elbowed her sharply in the back, catching Willow completely off guard. She fell forward onto Buffy sending them both to the deck and getting a laugh from the Slayerettes, some even cheered her on yelling ‘go on Dawn, show her what you’re made of.’

Simone watched Dawn fight her duel with admiration. She couldn’t believe how easily the object of her awe was holding off the Captain. She imagined herself and Dawn walking along the beach, hand in hand at the slayer’s base, Dawn would suddenly stop, turn to look her straight in the eyes, kiss her with a heated passion, then they… was it her imagination or did her breeches suddenly feel a little damp?

Willow parried a chopping blow aimed at her head before retreating as Dawn quickly recovered and attacked again with the sabre. Once again, the sabre slid down the length of the cutlass til it reached the hilt. Now the two young women were face to face. Dawn was looking grim and determined while Willow just grinned and winked at her.

“I thought ya said ya could take me Dawn. I’m still waiting ta be taken.”
There was a loud cough from the side and the combatants turned to see Buffy glaring at Willow whose face suddenly matched her hair.

“I didn’t mean taken that way Buff, ya should know that of all people. It was just that I er..I meant that umm… oh crap,” she sighed knowing that sometime later Buffy was going to give her a lecture on what NOT to say in front of Dawn. Turning back to her opponent Willow, without warning pinched Dawn’s ass and quickly danced back, chuckling as a shocked Dawn rubbed her butt where it had just been nipped by the quick fingers of the pirate. Willow decided if she was going to get a lecture off her best friend, it may as well be for a good reason.

Tara watched Willow with adoration loving the sleek way that she moved, the lithe smoothness of her muscles rippling as she moved her arms, back, legs during the fight. She wondered how it would feel to be held in those strong arms, to feel the smooth skin against her own, to rub her hands along the hot flesh of the Pirate queen’s muscled back, to gaze into those beautiful green eyes. A heated flush suddenly rose in the blonde’s cheeks as the duellists turned again in the circle and the Willow was facing in her general direction. The captain’s shirt was open showing a swell of breast, not too much, just enough to titillate. And it was titillating Tara a lot.

Dawn was fighting furiously, putting all her strength into sweeping blows. But Willow saw gaps opening up in the girls defense opening up and realized that Dawn was losing her concentration.

There was a sudden sharp yelp and all the attention was drawn to the centre of the ring. Willow was holding her arm where a slight dribble from a waterfall of red blood was drip, drip dripping to the deck.

Dawn dropped her sword in alarm and ran toward Willow, worry and panic plain in her eyes. “Oh my gods, I’m so sorry Willow I didn’t mean to hurt you. Are you alright?”

The redhead looked upon the stowaway with much amusement. “I be fine lass, don’t ya worry about it. I’ve had far worse splinters when repairing the ship than this little scratch ya gave me.”

“But, but I caught you with my sword. I cut you and I shouldn’t have. I’m sorry Willow, I’m so, so sorry.”

“That needs t…to be s…een to right a… away.” Willow and Dawn both turned to see that Tara had come forward and was looking closely at the wound on the pirates arm.

“Ah, ye be making to big a fuss over it girl. I doubt that a tick bite like this’ll kill me.”

“N…no, but if an inf…fection s…sets in, that c…could k…kill you.”

Willow rolled her eyes at what she considered to be Tara’s over protectiveness but deep down was glad of the chance to spend some time with the blue-eyed beauty.

“Alright lass, if ye say so, but at least let me finish this little scrap first, I have money riding on it. Buffy bet me that I couldn’t whip young Dawnie’s ass here.

“WHAT!” Dawn turned to look at her sister who just shook her head, eyes wide in fear. She so did not want to be on the receiving end of Dawn’s temper, especially for something that she hadn’t even done.

“Are we fighting or what,” Willow called out to the girl in a mocking voice. Dawn turned, her face red with fury, toward the Captain whose arm had been temporarily bandaged with a piece of material torn from Tara’s dress.
Dawn came at Willow furiously, swinging her sword in vicious slashes from upper left to lower right then upper right to lower left. She advanced on the redhead angrily pushing her back but started to become careless. She missed a couple of easy blocks, which almost resulted in the young brunette getting injuries. If it hadn’t been for the expertise, with which the Pirate Captain wielded her cutlass Dawn could have had severe wounds inflicted on her.

Dawn ran at Willow, her sword pointed at the pirate’s heart. Willow stood there, a grim look on her face, both hands on the hilt of her cutlass ready to deflect the sabre. Then, just as Dawn was in striking distance, she neatly sidestepped, avoiding the blow and once more spanked Dawn on the rear with the flat of her blade. The younger girl stumbled over her feet and sprawled, flat on her face. This piece of accidental slapstick on Dawn’s part got as big a laugh as when Willow and Buffy fell to the floor.
Unfortunately, Dawn didn’t see the funny side to this. Her anger from Willow’s earlier gag about Buffy betting against her sister as well as the slap and the pinch she had received on her rump was now intensified.

She scrambled up from the floor and launched her self at the Pirate Captain, the sword lay forgotten on the deck. Seeing Dawn come at her Willow quickly dropped her cutlass as the other girl pounced and beat her chest with her fists.

“You think it’s funny do you?” Dawn snarled as she continually struck Willow.

Buffy and Xander quickly ushered the other girls back to other jobs on the ship while the redhead and the brunette struggled on the deck. Apart from Simone, who frowned sadly at Dawn’s antics and Tara who was chewing her lower lip, all the girls were talking excitedly about the fight that was continuing between the captain and the stowaway. Eventually Willow was able to get Dawn’s arms behind her back.

“God’s girl, quit now or I’m through playing with you,” she growled at the smaller girl, still struggling against whom she saw as her foe.

Suddenly, Dawn jerked herself free from the Captains grip and turned to face Willow, ready for another round. She launched herself at the elder girl again, her fists ready. As she swung a right hook at Willow’s face, the redhead caught it and backhanded Dawn, splitting her lip. She then released the smaller girl who fell in a heap on the deck at her feet.

“Dawn, I’m sorry lass, I truly am,” Willow tone was as grim as her face but held genuine concern, “but ya know ya don’t attack yer commanding officer. Coming at me as ya did ye left me no choice. Here let me help ya.” She offered her hand to Dawn who slapped it away.

Simone and Tara, both sensing the furore that was about to develop, took a couple of big steps backward away from the coming argument.

Angry tears were forming in her eyes but she refused to allow herself to cry properly. She wasn’t going to show any weakness in front of Willow.

“Fuck off,” Dawn spat out, “I don’t need your help.” She pushed herself up to her feet and glared at Willow. Buffy approached quietly and observed the tirade from the side.

“You always have to win don’t you Willow,” Dawn muttered, in an angry growl. “You can’t stand to lose can you.”

“It’s not like that Dawn and ya know it.” Willow retorted, “but ya need to learn a little patience and a willingness to learn from your mistakes. Ya did good today, ya gave me a good cut there but ya need…”

“Shove it Will, save it for your fanclub.” With those words, Dawn set off for the cabins spitting at Willow on the way. “I hate you, you bitch,” she yelled behind her before heading below decks.

That went well

Simone and Tara exchanged a glance after having just borne witness to the argument.

“Haven’t you got something to do,” Willow yelled at Simone who quickly wandered down towards the aft of the ship.

“I’m sorry Buffy, I truly am, but she came at me ready to attack,” the redhead told her friend who stood there, a frown on her face.

“I know Will, but Dawn’s gonna be hard to discipline now, she may even take it out on Tara.”

“Don’t worry, we’ll think o’ some way a dealing wi’ her. Can I help ya in any way?” This latter sarcastic, remark, was aimed at Tara who had timidly come forward.

“Y…your arm, it still needs seeing too.”

“Is it really that important,” came the impatient reply.

“W…well that d…depends on if you want g…gangrene to set in and yo…ur arm to d…drop off or n…not.”

That image made Willow swallow hard. She really didn’t want to lose her arm, she was kind of attached to it and found it came in very handy.

“Alright, ye can patch me up, lead on Macduff.”

And all those incidents were watched with interest from the helm.

*********************************************************
Willow and Tara were in the galley of the Slayer where the blonde was checking the redhead’s arm. She had first washed it with some water, her hand glowing faintly as it washed up and down Willow’s arm though Willow herself didn’t notice, she was too busy concentrating on Tara’s cleavage.

“Th…there, it doesn’t look too b…bad. It’s a long cut but it isn’t a deep one, except at the elbow.”

“Will it leave a scar?” came the hopeful question.

“D…do you want i…it t…too?” Tara kept stroking her fingers up and down the redheads arm even though there was no need.

“I kinda like em ya know, I consider em badges of honour.”

“It sh…should do, but it will only b…be a small one.” Tara’s fingers glowed softly once more for just a second. Tara then wrapped the slender wound in a thin piece of gauze tying it in a knot before placing a soft, tender kiss on the makeshift bandage.

Willow swallowed hard as she wondered how those soft lips would feel against her own.

“Erm, w…well er how is Dawn getting on,” Willow quickly had to think of something else to stop the arousal from rising within her.

“She is go…good and does the job but I had to di…discipline her at the start. She was complaining a lot but I threatened to report her to you and Buffy. Dawn quieted down after that.”

“Good for you,” Willow smiled, “standing up to her I mean.”

She stood up from the table she was leaning against and moved closer to Tara, gazing into those beautiful cornflower blue eyes. The two young women were much closer now, almost breast to breast. Willow could feel the other girl’s warm, sweet breath against her skin. Willow felt her nipples hardening and her mound swelling as the beautiful, young blonde woman stood before her.

She saw the other girls full, heaving bosom straining against the fabric of her thin dress. A droplet of sweat slowly trickled a path down her cleavage. The redheaded pirate wondered what it would be like to lick that droplet from between Tara’s breasts, how it would feel to hold Tara in her arms, to ravage those full, red lips with her own, to place her mouth over those full, round breasts and suck on them til Tara screamed her name. Hell, she wanted to ravage Tara’s entire naked body and fuck her senseless, over and again.

She suddenly found her lips pressed against Tara’s. Her hands were cupping the blonde’s cheeks. She felt Tara’s hands slip under her shirt and rub up and down her back, kneading the muscles before making their way south to the redhead’s buttocks, squeezing and massaging them in the leather breeches.
She pushed Tara down onto the table, straddling her and kissing her up the jawline til she reached an ear and began to suck on a lobe.
“Oh goddess yes, take me Willow, make me yours, make me your woman now.”

“Fuck yeah, you’re mine and I’m not gonna let ya go, I’ll die first.” Her hand found its way under Tara’s flimsy dress and reached upwards till she felt warm, silk smooth skin with a scattering of soft hairs growing there. She began stroking it, arousing Tara even more. She felt Tara’s hand on the back of her head as she bought her lips back to the blonde’s in a full, passionate kiss.

“Captain ma’am, Captain ma’am?”

The voice sounded as if it were coming from a long distance off. Willow suddenly shook her head, waking herself from the daydream. She found she was still leaning against the table, Tara stood looking at her curiously and was not flat on her back as the pirate had just fantasised, though a wet dribble of desire was making its way down the captain’s leg.

“A…are you alright Captain ma’am?”

“Yeah, I’m fine, Willow smiled thinly, “just a lot going on in the old brain pan y’know,” she said, tapping her forehead. Her smile grew broader as what Tara had just said sank in, then she chuckled. “And it’s just Captain,” she grinned at Tara.

“So I’ll see ya at supper,” the captain said before swallowing hard again and quickly left the room leaving Tara to gaze after her in astonishment.

********************************************************************
“Has Jules reported?”

“Yes, she believes the one she watched is to close to Willow. Did you hear about the fight today?”

“Everyone heard about the fight today.”

“If we can persuade her to join us…”

“I know, I’ll get on to it.”

What makes you think there’s an ‘us’?

*****************************************************************
Many leagues from the Slayer there was a dark isle. In the centre of that dark isle, there stood a dark tower. It protruded from the isle like an ugly, infected finger stabbing accusingly into the sky. In the centre of that tower sat a man in dark robes. His face was so pale he could have been mistaken for an albino. He sat in front of a pool of water the color of green algae.

“Deshala falo khulish,” he muttered in a voice rusty from disuse and the water in the pool rippled as if he had placed his hand in it and waved it around.

An image appeared in the water, that of the Slayer way out at sea.

“Show me the girl,” he growled in a low voice. The image changed from the aerial view of the pirate ship to an image of Tara who was busy in the galley.

The lips of the pale man turned up in a rictus grin as he stared at the blonde girl.

WOOHOO I GOT A DIBS *dancing with joy*

Fantastic update!!!!!!!!!!! :applause :bounce :clap I am absolutely enthralled by your story telling. I keep checking to see if there is an update on this story just in case I miss an e-mail alert. :blush ;-) :-D Kinda silly I know, but it is so good I can't seem to help myself. *giggles blushing*

Right now I am frustrated :gnome with Dawn's behavior. She is acting childish and selfishly. I have a feeling that she may inadvertently end up causing more problems before she learns to grow up and take proper responsibility for her actions. Maybe Simone can help her with that, and also temper her a little.

I am very impressed with Tara right now for standing up for herself with Dawn, and holding her ground in regards to Captain Red's minor injury. I am hoping that they both will be able to learn and accept their growing desire for each other. Dawn is being such a bitch! After that embarassment, it seems likely that she would join the betrayers.

WOWZA! Awesome update!!

Lot's going on here...first and foremost: Dawn. She's gonna cause all kinds of problems if she joins the mutiny. Not only will it be a slap in Willow's face, but how could Buffy EVER forgive her? Yes, Willow embarrassed her, but she deserved it with her childish antics. You've done a really great job writing her...she's just as obnoxious as a pirate as she was in canon!

The day dream was...HOT! :thud :thud Can't wait until it really happens!! BTW...how much of that dress is Tara gonna tear off before she's down to nothing? LOL

Hey,

You have done it again! I have been shanghai’d aboard the Slayer for as long as the journey takes! So many goodies, I am forcing myself not to quote most of the story! :party :pinky :party

Love the interchange:
Quote:

LOVE the fire you’ve given Tara and LOVE how she stands up for herself AND forces Dawn to do her job! :smash

Here’s Dawn at her best – bold and witty with Willow showing her humorous side:
Quote:

More fight fun, with Willow putting her foot in her mouth!
Quote:

Love Tara’s reaction to watching Willow fight:
Quote:

Finally, the ending: Creepy, otherworldly, and suspenseful. Ya got me, Cap’n! I am yours to command!

Okay, Dawn is getting on my last nerve already. I'm glad Tara put her in her place though, and I really hope she learns to respect Tara.

Loved all the sword play, and Willow putting Dawn in her place was well deserved. She's already showing by her actions that she isn't mature enough to be aboard the ship. She definitely needs to grow up some.

I have no idea who is doing all the mutiny talk, so I'll just have to wait and see what you give us next.

But the last part was very foreboding. Who is the creepy guy looking at Tara? Oh, I can't wait to see what happens with that. More soon please.

This story is amazing. The ability of painting the picture of what's happening is astounding. I've never been big on pirates, but after I read this, it made me want to go buy a boat. I can't wait for the next update!

Sapphoselene Congrats on your dibs. Thank you for your kind words, I feel like I really don’t deserve them you make me blush with your praise. Dawn is actually gonna be a big part of this story and she and Simone will get some hot lovin together. Dawn is actually a good kid and major happenings will occur that will make her take some responsibility. Both Willow and Tara are accepting their feelings for each other, they just need to act on those feelings and say something to one another. But they are both going to have some very close moments together. Never forget that your opinions are just as important as anyone else’s so never, ever consider them to be humble, the opinions of kittens like yourself can sometimes help shape the stories.

vazy Hi there vazy, good to hear from a new reader. It seems like Dawn’s being a bitch but she is really just a teen who wants it all her way. We will get to see a more positive side to her in later chapters though, including standing up in Tara’s defence.

Promethea128 Dawn join the conspirators hmmm, that sounds like an idea I may use

Finey McFine The operative word here is ‘if’. For Dawn’s future escapades, you’ll just have to keep reading. Also, Willow never set out to embarrass Dawn, just have some fun with her whilst teaching her some swordsmanship skills. To be honest, I never considered Dawn to be obnoxious, just poorly written for. As for Tara’s dress, well someway down the line, she strips naked and I’ll leave it there for your anticipation.

Vamp Willz Thank you so much for your kind words, it’s always nice to hear from new readers. On a side note: gosh.

Ariel It’s always so good to hear from you my fellow shipmate, I’m glad you’re enjoying the story and I’m glad that I have a wonderful beta like you to help me. Thank you also for mentioning the last scene as he is an important figure in the story who will play a big part in future chapters.

Wimpy0729 I know Dawn is being a spoiled brat at the moment but events are in store that will make her shape up and fly right. Who are the mutineers? You’ll just have to keep reading. The creepy looking guy is gonna be important in the future to, but as I said keep reading.

Weaselbee16 I’m so glad you’re enjoying the story and keep following as there are plenty more twists ahead in the adventure.

Thank you everybody for your feedback, it’s as gold dust to a mere writer like myself. I’m so glad to know so many of you are enjoying the story and all the little intrigues aboard the good ship Slayer and most of all a huge thanks to my friend and beta Ariel (How I Met Your Mother) without whose help this story would never be as good as it is. Ariel, thanks loads you’re awesome.

Chapter 9 Hunger Pangs
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dawn and Simone were resting between their jobs. They were leaning against the wooden rail watching the rest of the crew either go about their work or have breaks of their own.

Simone looked at Dawn, “You shouldn’t have done that you know.”

“I know, it’s just that Willow pissed me off so much. I mean, why couldn’t she have just let me win, and why did she have ta keep slapping my ass with her sword?”

“Would you have rather she cut you with her blade?”

Dawn gave a wry smile at this. “No, no I guess not. But if she had fought me to a position where I’d only had to surrender, I wouldn’t mind so much.

I just feel like Willow set out to humiliate me. And succeeded.”
Dawn let out a big sigh and looked out over the ocean.

“Don’t forget, she also praised you for cutting her like you did. She must believe in you and have some faith in you.”

Dawn considered what Simone was saying and a small smile curled at the ends of her mouth as she remembered the ‘friendly’ duel she had fought only a few days before.

“Yeah, I guess you’re right. Still, I’m not gonna talk to her yet. I’ll leave it a week then I’ll go talk to her.”

“You will? I’m so glad. I didn’t like the idea of you and the Cap’n fighting. Sound’s like I’ve got to go, I can hear Alex calling me and she’s tough if you go back late.”

Simone turned to go but called back over her shoulder as she walked away, “I think you have a cute one.”

“A cute one what?” came the confused reply.

“Ass,” Simone shouted to Dawn before running to her job with Alex.

Dawn’s jaw dropped and eyes widened at the response, then her mouth formed itself into a huge smile.

My ass, she thinks my ass is cute, Simone thinks I have a cute ass. Woohoo!

The rest of that day Dawn worked with more enthusiasm and had more joy on her face than Tara had ever seen on her.
*************************************************

Willow was frustrated. She was frustrated because she had been at sea now for five weeks and still had no idea where Verminas was. Despite the best efforts of Buffy, the map still could not be understood.

On top of that, Dawn was now refusing to talk to both her and Buffy after their fight a few weeks before and was barely speaking to Tara after being forced to assist her in the galley. The only ones she would ever really talk to were Alex, Laragh, Xander and Simone; one of the new girls whom Dawn had befriended and had been helping show how to handle a sword. It hadn’t gone unnoticed that the two girls were becoming much closer.

And now Tara was giving her more bad news.

“So we’re out of food ya say?”

“N…not yet, but we are run…running low on stores.”

Willow sighed heavily. As if she didn’t have enough things to worry about now she needed to find more food for her crew before they totally rebelled against her.

“A’right then Tara, I’ll get the girls ta look out for land so we can get some more food in. How is Dawn?

The young blonde woman sighed, not relishing telling the captain how the stowaway currently felt.

“Sh…she doesn’t like you too much at the moment c…Captain ma’am.”

Willow looked at Tara and smiled, “What have I told you about calling me Captain ma’am?”

Tara blushed, “Y…you said to c…call you Captain,” she answered softly.
Now it was Willow’s turn to blush ‘Captain’ from those soft lips sounded like an invitation, an invitation that was getting harder and harder to ignore. What were we even talking about? Oh yeah! Dawn doesn’t like me.

“She doesn’t?” Willow wasn’t really surprised. Their mock duel had taken place not many days before hand and she knew from past experience Dawn could keep her mood up for weeks, months if she felt like it.

“No Captain. She k…keeps referring to you as that hmmm.” Tara hesitated, not wanting to repeat the words that her unwilling assistant had used.

“Tara, I’ve heard all the words and I use a fair amount of em meself. Nothing she says can offend me.”
Still Tara hesitated, not sure if repeating the curse words Dawn regularly used in reference to the Captain was a good idea.
Willow was getting impatient, “well, c’mon lass, out wi’ it.

“Sh…she calls you that f…f…fucking, wannabe, know-it-all, redheaded, cu…cu…cunt sucking b…bitch. I’m s…s…sorry Captain.” The blonde’s stammer had gotten worse with the usage of such raw language towards the Captain.

Willow just sat there for a moment as she absorbed what Tara had told her. Then the sides of her mouth started to quiver and she looked away from Tara, though not enough to hide the big grin that had formed on her face. Another minute and the pirate let out a loud hearty laugh, totally surprising Tara. The jovial laughter filled the young blonde girl with a sense of warmth; she wanted to hear more of that joyful sound.

“God’s, did she kiss her ma wi’ that potty mouth,” Willow mused, a huge smile on her face. “Tara, don’t be sorry lass, ye aint the one using it. Yer just repeatin’ what yer assistant said.”

An awkward silence filled the room between the two young women as each admired the other, both mentally stripping the other naked. Eventually Willow shattered the silence before it became oppressive.

“A’right then Tara, you get back and see what you can make fer us I’ll get someone to spy some land so we can get some food.”

“Y…yes Captain,” with those word’s Tara left the Captain’s cabin.
***************************************
“Xander, get the girls aloft. I need em to keep an eye out for any signs of land.”

“You got the map sorted Will? You know where this Verminas is then?”

“Nay Xand, Tara tells that were starting to run low on supplies. We need ta find land so we can get s’more grub ta keep the crew fed. The girls won’t be no use if they’re half starved by the time we do find Verminas and they need ta fight.”

“Aye, ya got that right Will. Awright, I’ll send Jules up she’s not been up there much.”

“I don’t mind who ya send up, long as ya trust them. I must get that map translated afore the girls turn on me. I’m sure some of them are muttering about me not knowing where I’m off ta. And I’m not sure where Dawn stands after the other day.”

Xander put a reassuring arm round the redhead’s shoulders, “Don’t worry Willow, You’ll always have me and Buffy by your side.”

She gave him a wry smile, “Thanks Xander that relieves me no end.
He narrowed his eyes a little and the sides of his mouth turned up. He slapped Willow on the back as she gave him a cheeky grin back.

“Watch it Will, I may just join the revolution yet.”

“Yeah, you and all those girls, right up your alley eh? she grinned at him.”

“More like up yours,” he grinned back at her.

“Willow’s eyes widened a moment as she took in Xander’s reply, “Getting cheeky in yer old age Harris,” the pirate said with a laugh. “Methinks I’m gonna have ta punish ya, maybe put Dawn in charge of ya fer a bit.”

“Ooh, promises, promises Will.” Willow laughed out loud at this, a rich, hearty sound, full of life and all the joys it held.

“Geraway with yerself, we both got work ta do,” and she gave him a friendly slap on the back before returning to work on the maps in her cabin. As she walked across the deck Xander called after her, “hey Will,” she turned towards her oldest friend. “I’ll stand by your side, whatever happens. She smiled and nodded at him in understanding before returning to her cabin and Xander set about looking for Jules.
****************************************************************
“Land ho, off the port side,” Jules called down from the crows nest.
It had been another day and a half since Tara had informed the Slayer’s Captain of the lack of provisions but finally land had been spotted and Willow was able to let out a sigh of relief at the possibility of food.
Willow retrieved her spyglass from her belt and looked out over the port side where Jules was indicating.

She saw the shape of a large island there. It was a few miles off from where the Slayer was but Willow reckoned it wouldn’t be too much of a diversion to head over to it. That way they shouldn’t only be able to get more stores for the ship, it may also give the crew a chance to rest and feel solid ground under their feet after so many weeks away from home.

“Mister Harris,” she shouted over to Xander at the helm, “make a course change, heading 45 degrees port.” He complied, turning the wheel sharply to the left and the pirate vessel turned accordingly.
*****************************************************
A while later and the schooner was a half mile of from the unknown island. Willow scanned the beach with her spyglass for any signs of life but none were visible. The tide was out and a well-beaten path led from the long sandy beach up to a forest with lush, verdant trees. Further inland a volcano rose like a small smouldering mountain, plumes of smoke rising from it.

Willow gave the order to cast anchor and for the two jolly boats to set off to the island with separate groups in them. One was led by Xander with Laragh, Katarina, Chou-Lee, and Dawn who had wanted to go so Willow had reluctantly allowed, mainly to avoid another fight with the angry teen. Buffy had been dead set against her sibling going but had conceded to Dawn going with Xander and told her to stay with her friend and not wander away from his group.

Buffy’s own group comprised of Alex, Christine, Simone and Jules. Willow had deliberately set the groups up in that order so that there were no fights or arguments between Alex and Kat or Buffy and Dawn. The last thing the Captain wanted was to have to mediate more squabbles amongst her crew.

The two separate groups set off into the jungle; one headed east, the other west. Both groups had rifles, swords and sacks with them to help enable the crew to kill any edible animals and carry them back to the Slayer.

After half an hours trek in the tropical forest and the group led by Xander came across a grove of mango trees so they got out the sacks. Laragh and Chou-Lee placed as much of the fruit in the sacks as they were able.

Once that was done the two girls returned to the boats on the beach leaving the fruit there before heading back in to the emerald leafed forest of the jungle.
*************************************************************
Laragh held up her hand to halt the small group and crouched down on the ground, looking carefully at the base of a tree.

“What is it?” Xander whispered.

“See here,” she said softly, “these score marks against the tree, where all the bark has been removed? These are from the tusks of wild pigs. There must be a herd of them. It can’t be too far from here judging from the ground round here.”

“Could you track them to their home?”

“Aye, their tracks are fairly clear so it shouldn’t be too hard a job to follow them back to the herd.”

The group hefted their packs and set off again
*********************************************************
After a half hour of walking through the undergrowth, everybody was hot and sweaty under the searing midday sun. Even the emerald green canopy of the jungle gave no shelter and the small troop stopped for rest and water.

“Is it much further to those pigs?”

“No Mr. Xander, I’d say another twenty minutes at a guess.” She squatted to look closely at the tracks. “They’re fresh, see? The dirt hasn’t begun to crumble back into them yet. Thing is will there be any wild pigs at the nest when we arrive. See if it’s just adults, they may be all out grazing.

But if there be any piglets there they’ll need females to feed em and males to guard the herd.”

Xander nodded his understanding and let the party rest for another ten minutes before they set off again.
*******************************************************
It wasn’t long before they were close to where the herd was grazing and Laragh, after having scouted ahead, had them all approach quietly from downwind, to keep the wild pigs from getting their scent and being on guard.

“There,” she said as she pointed out three wild pigs based around the large hollow of a tree trunk. At least one was pregnant whilst another was lying on her back feeding her new born piglets, Xander counted at least five, with milk from her teats while another, a boar, was standing guard over the two females.

“If we can take out the male the other two should be easy to kill, and then we just lie in wait for the rest of the herd to turn up.”

“Aye Mr. Xander,”

Gods, he makes it sound so easy. Just go in, kill a male wild pig with sharpened tusks that’ll rip ya ta shreds given a chance then slaughter the rest of the pack when they turn up because the females won’t be dangerous will they, oh no. Feck, how did this idiot ever get to be in charge?

Laragh thought, rolling her eyes.
*******************************************************
The small group were waiting quietly in the bushes while Xander and Kat set out to kill the male wild pig. Kat took her place behind a tree with an axe ready to strike as Xander moved warily towards the pigs, his sword drawn in case the male tried to rush him. As he drew closer to the nest the boar, which had been licking some algae off a rock and snuffling round the two females suddenly raised its head. The pig wrinkled its snout and snorted as it smelled the hot, sweaty scent of Xander’s perspiration. It bristled and snorted as Xander rounded the corner.

“Hey ya ugly motherfucker, ya may as well lie down and die now cos I’m a’ gonna slice yer head right off.”

The boar glared at Xander and he wiped the sweat off his brow as the boar snorted at him. He took a few steps further towards the pig, which pawed its front paw against the ground and bowed its head slightly, its tusks protruding dangerously from its mouth.

Oh man, how did I ever get into this situation? Xander thought as panic suddenly overtook him.

Kat glared at Xander’s back. C’mon ya dipshit, get a fuckin’ move on so I can kill the fucker.

Xander took a further two steps closer and the boar charged. Xander quickly did an about turn and shot off like a rocket back down the path.

“Kaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttt,” he cried as panic ran through his entire body as the wild pig pursued him like a demon from hell desperate for his soul, and squealing loudly.

“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhoooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwww mommy,” he cried as he shot past the tree where Kat was hiding. As the pig came level with the tree Kat raised her axe and brought it crashing down heavily on the pigs head. The effects were instantaneous, the pig fell to the floor still squealing loudly, its paws were moving intermittently and the whole body was twitching violently. Kat stepped out from behind the tree, raised the axe, then brought it down again, this time caving in the animal’s skull. The creature moved no more.

“Well that’s one down, Mr. Xander ya care ta tackle the two ladies or will ya piss yer pants again,” Kat smirked prompting surreptitious grins from the other girls.”
****************************************************
“So what will we use from the pig for food?” Dawn enquired, trying to learn something new about pirating.

“All of it lass,” Laragh said as she slit the throat of the pig with her knife, a long, sharp pointed dagger, so that the blood would have a path to follow out of the body. “When you’re at sea fer as long as we are you can never be sure where yer next meal is comin from so ya make sure ya eat everything down t’ the bone. Either that or ya starve.”

“What about the head, there’s nothing there to eat surely?” this time it was Simone who asked.

“Sure there is kid, there’s the brain,” Kat replied flatly. “Have ya ne’er heard a’ head cheese?”

“You eat the head and the brain’s,” Simone’s face resembled that of a codfish with wide staring eyes and jaw dropped mouth.

“Aye, it’s good in a stew,” Laragh picked up
Dawn’s mouth seemed to have gone numb and she could barely get the words out.

“We can’t wait to try, can we Simone,” Dawn said slowly as she turned to her friend who just nodded, unable to speak at all.

“Well that’s good cos I’m gonna ask the galley cook to do a stew tomorrow and put the brains in. I want the skull see, I reckons as how it’ll look good in my quarters. What d’ya think Dawn?”

The two girl’s faces blanched and they looked as if they were about to throw up every meal from the previous day.

“I reckons as how they don’t like brain stew,” commented Laragh with a little chuckle before accompanying Xander back to the nest.
****************************************************
The two females offered no resistance to Laragh and Xander who quickly dispatched them and the infants. The piglets were then placed in a sack while Xander, Kat and Chou-Lee each carried an adult each over their shoulders.

As they were about to set off a loud, high pitched squealing could be heard. Although it was from a distance away the sound was getting closer.

“Ya wanna stay an’ grab a couple more?” Kat questioned Xander who pondered the idea for a moment before deciding.

“Aye, we will, the more food we can take back t’ Slayer the better.”

They hid the carcasses of the boars in some bushes and waited near the nest. It wasn’t long before the other boars arrived. There were two males, one older than the other. It didn’t take long for the group to kill them with Chou-Lee and Dawn killing the young male the same way that Xander and Kat had while Laragh and Simone quickly dispatched the elder.
Kat grimaced, “those old boars’ll be gamey all right. We’d best be saving them for last,” she eyed the new recruits, “or as a welcome treat for our fresh caught crew mates.”

******************************************************

As she stood guard, Dawn noticed another path that led off into the jungle. She turned to check on the rest of the group, but they were all busy gutting and cleaning the carcasses of the five wild hogs. The young girl looked at the path, properly this time. It seemed to entice her with the idea of all sorts of adventures at the end of it. Adventures where she could be just like Willow, exploring strange new lands, be the heroine of her own adventures and her exploits becoming the stuff of legend. Dawn looked again at the rest of her party, just to ensure she wasn’t being watched, then set off down the path.
****************************************************************
Xander and his team met up with Buffy and her group on the beach some time later. The petite blonde’s group had also discovered some wild boars, but only three. However, they had found watermelons and a clean, freshwater pool where they planned to top up the water barrels.

“Where’s Dawn?”

Xander looked over where his girls where standing talking quietly amongst themselves. Dawn wasn’t amongst them.

“Aw hell, this can’t be good,” the young man muttered to himself

“You lost her didn’t you, you lost my sister you idiot. Fuck, I knew she should never have come.”

“Look, we’ll take the meat back to Slayer then head off back into the jungle. The island can’t be that big and she’ll know to find her way back to the beach, that we’re not gonna leave without her.”

“You sure she’s not that stupid?”
**********************************************
“She did what!” Willow wasn’t happy with Buffy’s news.

“Xander’s getting a crew together to look for her right now,”

“I should damn well hope so. Who’s he chosen?”

“Laragh; for her tracking skills, Kat, Chou-Lee, Cosima, Shanna, Simone wants to go but with her being new I’m not sure. And I’m going too. Dawn’s my sister; before mom died I promised her that I’d always take care of Dawn.”

Willow sat back in the padded leather chair and took a long thoughtful pull on the pipe she was smoking as she considered Dawn’s rescue team. It was carved from ivory with a long slender stem, the bowl end in the shape of Torata, the water god.

“I agree about Simone being new, but she cares for Dawn and it’ll be good
for her to go on the mission, besides she’ll have you, Laragh and Kat to keep an eye on her. Alright go, we’ll wait for as long as it takes.”
Buffy nodded once and left the cabin, leaving Willow to lean back in her chair and take a long drag on her pipe as she wondered what would go wrong next.
************************************************************
Dawn was lost. She had been happily exploring the jungle path hoping she could find something exciting and interesting so that she would receive adulation from Willow and the crew of the Slayer. What Dawn didn’t know was that she was being watched. Deep in the undergrowth, four pairs of eyes were watching the girl.

The crack of a twig snapping startled Dawn and she looked in all directions. No one was visible but Dawn was a little shaken now and thought it would be a good time to get back to the rest of her group. If she only knew which path was the right one to take.

There were at least seven different paths, each a copy of the one before it and all surrounded by trees.

“Xander, Laragh, Simone,” Dawn called out the names of the people she trusted most but didn’t hear any reply.

Deciding she was alone, Dawn opted on a simple, scientific method to choose the right path back to her friends.

“Eeny, meeny, miny mo,” she began when she felt a hand on her shoulder.

“Oh Xand,” she began as she turned only to see a face with strange tribal markings painted in blood atop a naked black body.

“Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh.” The girls scream could have shattered glass.

“Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh,” the black native yelled back at her.

The first thing Dawn did was feel for her sword, which she removed from its scabbard with a swish. She bought it to bear and slashed at the stranger only for the man to grab her hand in an iron fist. He then used his other hand to punch Dawn in the face knocking her on her ass. Quickly the girl stood up ready, as ever, for a fight. She was about to strike the man when two strong arms grabbed her round the waist from behind.

“Whaaaa,” Dawn cried out as she struggled against the new foe. A quick glance back revealed she was fighting a similar strange man with more tribal markings. Still the would be pirate fought back against the man who held her tightly, thrashing her legs about violently. The first man then came forward and struck a hard, vicious blow against the back of Dawn’s head. Her eyes dimmed as the two men looked down at her then the world went black.
*********************************************
“Well this is it.”

“You sure Laragh?”

“Aye Miss Buffy, this is the last place I know for sure Dawn was with our group.”

The group had returned to the spot where Xander’s team had earlier killed the wild pigs and were now seeking where Dawn could have gone.

“Can you see any other tracks?”

“N’yet Miss Buffy, the ground is too hard for that, but…”

“But what!”

“The grass has been broken here where someone has obviously walked through it. It looks like three or four people struggled here so I’m guessing at least three people took young Dawn and they went…” Laragh stood and looked at the various paths in the area before pointing west with a large dagger.

“…that way.”

“Right, Laragh, I want you up front with me,” said Buffy as she took command of the small group. Kat, you and Xander take up the rear. Chou-Lee, Cosima, Shanna, you’re all in the middle and I want you all to keep an eye on Simone. I don’t want to lose another crewmember on my watch.”

Their orders duly noted, taking up their positions the party continued their trek into the jungle.

************************************************

Slowly, Dawn opened her eyes. It was as dark in here as…no…wait. There were thin strips of bright light on the ground and walls of the hut she was in providing a limited amount of illumination.

She found herself prostrate on the floor, her hands and legs bound expertly. She struggled to get herself upright and make sense of her new environment.

The hut was built from thick wooden branches held together with vines. It was large, too large to be a home. What was that rank stench too, as if something had crawled in here and died? Several machetes and a couple of knives were stuck in the wood while about ten spears, with bright yellow strands of rope or vine hung decoratively from the blade end, stood against the wall.

Dawn rolled herself on to her belly, then pushed herself onto her knees.
She sniffed the air, breathing in the putrid perfume of decay and rotting flesh. Dawn followed the scent with her eyes till she saw, in the far corner of the room a small pile of what… As she stared in the feeble light, her eyes adjusted so that the strange pile she saw was comprised of human bodies in differing stages of putrification, the aroma from them was making the girls stomach churn to such a degree she felt as if she may vomit.

There were a lot of skeletons, some with smashed in skulls or broken ribs that would have punctured vital organs. Others were without feet or hands meaning the victims could never have escaped or fought back. On top of these skeletons were more recent corpses that were now home to various insects and their larvae. They burrowed their way under the dead flesh of the carcasses to eat the bodies from the inside out, eating away at the muscle, sinew and internal organs.

From outside there came a thudding sound like a heartbeat, but irregular, as if it were out of synch. The young girl then crawled forward till she could see out of the vine-covered entrance. What she saw shocked her

A large group of naked people, Dawn reckoned at least a hundred, were dancing, swaying and writhing around to the music in a rowdy fashion in front of a large carved wooden figure. The statue had strange faces carved into it and there was some dark brown colouring on it. All the dancers had the same strange symbols painted on their faces and torsos. Dawn actually felt herself turn bright red at all the bare cocks and tits on display. This was despite living on a ship where, other than Xander, the crew was made entirely of women most of whom she had seen topless at some point. Sitting to one side were five men, their hands beating a wild, frantic rhythm on a set of bongos, each one a little different to the others so that a tune of sorts was being drummed out.

Dawn counted what must have been forty five to fifty huts round the village in a tight circle, possibly to make it safer for the village inhabitants against dangerous animals or other intruders

In what Dawn approximated to be the centre of the village a fire was blazing away under a spit, and Dawn had a very bad feeling she was going to be the main course.

It has to be a Tuesday; I only ever get into this much trouble on a Tuesday.

While Dawn was contemplating the regularity of her getting into trouble on a week-by-week basis, a loud noise suddenly startled her and drew her attention back to the dancers.

From out of nowhere the wizened figure of an old woman (equally naked, to Dawn’s horror) had appeared and was standing before the crowd of dancers. The villagers all stopped their frantic gyrations and fell to their knees. The drums all stopped for a moment then a different beat began, this time struck by just one of the bongo’s players, a fat man wearing some kind of chain made from the sharpened teeth of either an animal or possibly a shark.

The old crone started to chant in a rasping voice and the people repeated her chant. The chant started to grow faster and faster, the drumbeat becoming wilder and wilder until suddenly both stopped, and all was quiet.

The elderly woman then pointed to a young woman in the crowd who rose and approached the elder woman who then had her lie on the floor. The younger girl did as she was bid. What happened next made Dawn want to vomit.

The crone started to mutter under her breath while placing her hands on the young woman’s chest, over the heart. She then started to press her fingers into the chest. Tighter went the fingers, deeper into the flesh and deeper yet. Blood started to trickle from the small wounds that the sharp fingernails had pierced into the dark flesh.

Slowly the fingernails dug into the dark skin until there was a sudden, strange tearing noise. The old woman had somehow torn through the skin, the muscle and arteries til she came to the heart. She had then, quite literally torn the still beating muscle from the body, turned to the statue and liberally rubbed the heart over the wooden statuette so that it became stained with blood and all the time this was happening the victim was slowly dying.

After she had daubed the blood on to the wooden figure, the elderly woman then passed the heart round the villagers to eat, each one taking a small bite before passing it on to their neighbour.

Two of the drummers had picked up the now lifeless corpse and taken it over to the spit, tied it on with twine and were now roasting it over the fire.
Shocked and horrified by what she had just witnessed, Dawn was about to shuffle back further into the hut when one of the painted faces suddenly appeared right in the entrance to the hut, staring straight at her. And all Dawn could do was scream.
******************************************************
The trackers heard the sound of bongos throbbing away in the distance, the beat, a hearkening back to more primitive times when it was kill or be killed, eat or be eaten.

The group headed deeper into the dark undergrowth of the jungle, hacking away at the thick vines and branches hanging down from ancient trees in the direction where the drumming sound was coming from. As they grew closer, the drumming grew louder. A wild primal sound with no true rhythm to be discerned.

The group came across an area that appeared to have a thicker area of scrub than the rest of the jungle. Laragh held a hand up indicating the others to stop.

“What is it?” Xander asked Laragh.

“They got to be up ahead, whoever it is that has Miss Buffy’s sister,” the girl replied in her soft brogue. She signalled for Buffy to follow her across to where the undergrowth was at its thickest whilst indicating for the others to stay back a little bit.

The duo snuck forward right up to the shrubbery and looked through the brush. They saw a host of black people with strange sigils painted on their bodies dancing and swaying to the strange beat.

Laragh moved away from the bushes a little and motioned for the rest of the group to join them.

As she peered through, Simone saw two men roughly drag Dawn from the hut where she was being kept prisoner, though Dawn struggled against the men, her attempts were futile in the iron grip of her guards. Simone saw the two men then strip her new friend naked and she felt a strange warmth in her belly and bosom, a warmth she had never felt before as she saw Dawn’s naked body.

“So what’s the plan?” Kat asked, eager for action.

“We go in, get my sister and get out,” Buffy replied firmly her voice flat.

“What you doing Mistah Xander?” Cosima, a dark coloured girl asked of the young man as she observed him slipping off his shirt and removing his sword from its sheath, ready for a fight.

“Simple, I’m gonna go in there, cause a distraction then you guys are gonna follow me in, get Dawn then we all get the hell outta here.”

“And what if you get killed?” Buffy asked, incredulous at her friends plan.

“I’m not planning on dying, but if you see me in trouble I won’t complain if you step in and save my ass,” he replied with a quick grin, then he was gone. He crawled under the bushes, emerging at the edge of the villager’s camp and crept forward until he came to the back of the crowd of people who were waiting for a taste of barbecue Dawn.

The girl was screaming for help but the sound was drowned out by the chanting of the villagers.

“Hey, you guys,” Xander shouted to the massed crowd of cannibals who, as one turned to face the intruder. “Ooga wooga booga,” he shouted at them then shot off round the back of the villager’s huts as soon as the people saw him. After a second’s incomprehension, the inhabitants of the village went into the hut to retrieve weapons and set of in pursuit of Xander.
It wasn’t long before the sound of swords clashing reached the ears of the rescue party

“Alright girls, here we go. Remember Dawn is the priority; we get her and get out. With luck Xander should be able to follow us to the boat.” Buffy was now in complete charge. She knew it, as did the girls around her who all followed her under the bushes and into the village.
Kat cut loose, fighting as she had never fought before. She was a veritable demon as she cut a swathe through the villagers as she battled her way her way to the spit where Dawn was hanging.

“Oh gods please don’t let me die, I don’t want to die I’m sorry, I’m sorry please don’t let me die. Whatever it is I did I’m sorry please don’t let me die please.” Dawn was now hysterical, tears streaming down her face as the heat from the fire scorched her back and her hair had burned to ashes so that it now only reached down to her shoulders instead of flowing down her back. She could feel the flames of the fire licking at the flesh of her back, almost, but not quite forming blisters on the smooth skin.
*******************************************************************
Xander was fighting valiantly behind the huts of the tribe against the ten arrayed against him. He hacked, slashed, lunged and parried at the various blades that the natives used to attack him. One of the men got in a lucky thrust and stabbed Xander through the shoulder with his spear. The young man grunted as the weapon’s sting shot through him, but he swiftly retaliated by slashing at the spearman’s hands severing one almost in half.

As the spearman fell to his knees, holding his partly severed hand and crying with pain, the one following didn’t see his wounded comrade and tripped over him. Xander saw this and was quick to take advantage. Ducking down he brought his blade smashing down on the fallen man’s chest smashing several ribs and cutting into vital organs.

As Xander rose, another swordsman came at him, machete ready to slash at him. Xander noticed this and dodged back to avoid the wicked, cutting edge of the blade but was too slow. The rough edge of the weapon carved into his flesh, cutting a bloody, diagonal line from his chest down to his abdomen. He winced at the pain, doubling over slightly, then, before his foe could attack him again, Xander thrust his sword up through the other man’s stomach, killing him instantly.

By now, he had narrowed the odds a little more to his liking. Xander raised his leg and booted another villager in the chest before ducking a swing from a spear and running past the men to the centre of the village where he could fight, back to back with one of his shipmates.
********************************************************
Laragh was in full force against the horde of barbaric people’s swinging her sword with gusto left and right. Some of the slashes went through thin air but plenty more seemed to hit their targets from the screams and howls of pain that came from her would be attackers.

“C’mon yer bastards, show me what ya got,” the pirate roared at the village’s inhabitants. One of the more daring came at her with a spear aimed at her head. She turned so the metal tip just grazed her cheek. Laragh quickly turned back to face her foe and, grasping the end of his weapon, snapped the spear tip off. The native looked at this unexpected turn of events with horror and quickly ran out of the line of Laragh’s sword, not quickly enough though. Laragh reached forward and cut deeply into the back of his thigh, severing nerves and muscles, tendons and arteries. The black man cried out in agony as he fell forward on his face.

Recovering he crawled away from the melee of violence and headed in the direction of the medicine woman’s hut in the hope she could help him. He had almost made it when something very sharp and pointy suddenly broke through the bones in his back to pierce his heart. The dying man slowly turned his head upwards, blood gushing from his mouth, to see a grim faced Xander standing over him

“Aye there Xander, I sees ya got a bit of a scratch on ya there,” said Laragh cheerfully to him.

“Ah, well I know that the Cap’n has more’n a few, calls em souvenirs she does so I thought I’d try to get one fer meself. Don’t think I’ll try it again, too painful, not worth the bother. Erm, Laragh,” he indicated with his sword another native, a strongly built giant, veins sticking out of his muscled arm, bearing down on her with an axe.

“Excuse me a mo,” Laragh turned to face the onrushing man, carefully balanced herself, then as soon as he was in place, WHAM, she let fly with a well placed boot right in his balls. The man froze and his eyes opened wide. He slowly looked down at Laragh’s boot still firmly implanted in his testicles. His eyes opened wide and a strange noise came from his throat. A soft, strangulated howl emanated from his mouth. He put his hands on the tenderised testicles, the female warrior having now withdrawn her boot and intently kicking the crap out of three other men behind her. He fell to his knees, tears had started to pour from his eyes and his keening noise had become sobs as the man’s massive frame shook with his crying.

“Nice shot,” Xander nodded approvingly.

“Thanks Xander, Alex showed me that one.

“I’ll have to get her to show me that one some time.”

“Aye ya should.”

The duo looked about them at the battlefield. By now the worst of the fighting was over, just straggles of scrapping here and there.

**************************************************
As she was approached by one of the savage’s, Kat socked the cannibalistic tribe member in the face, knocking him back into one of his fellows whose own upraised blade tore through his back so that Kat’s would be attacker now screamed in pain as part of his spine was shattered and his fellows blade tore through his back muscles.

As the man was on his knees before her, Kat aimed a swift kick at his jaw, knocking him on his back. She then slashed at his genitals cutting his balls and cock straight off him. That pain was too much for him and he collapsed in shock, blood streaming from the front and back of his body. Without hesitation, Kat scooped her prize up and slid the bloody trophy into her britches pocket.

Kat turned to see another charging her, he was without weapon but his hands and teeth were bared were to tear out Kat’s throat. Just as he got within striking distance Kat ducked down and threw him over her shoulder before hacking into his face with her sword, the blade sinking deep into the man’s skull. She caught another on the backswing, the cold razor sharp steel of her blade biting into his neck, slicing into veins and muscles there, ending his life. Quickly she removed his genitals also, again placing her gory reward with it’s companion in to her britches.

“Simone, here,” Kat called out to the young girl who was desperately fighting for her life against the cannibals.

Though undisciplined in the skills of swordsmanship Simone was holding her own against the overwhelming odds of the attacking villagers. Whilst not inflicting much damage to the attackers she was still able to parry and thrust and thus battled her way over to where Kat was enjoying herself with the thrill of the fight.

“Simone, get a knife, cut Dawn loose and get her outta here.”
The younger girl felt in her boot for the small knife she kept in a sheath there and quickly retrieved it. She set to work cutting the thick vines that bound Dawn to the spit. It wasn’t long before Dawn was free and, with Simone’s arm round her waist to aid her, they ran out of the village.
As the two younger Slayerettes escaped the village, Kat informed the others.

“Dawn’s headed ta the beach with Simone, time ta go people.”
The troop started to make a retreat from the village, fighting off the cannibals as they went. They left one at a time, Laragh in front and Kat in the rear. They headed to the beach as fast as they could, the remaining tribes people hot on their tail. It was a relief when they emerged from the jungle on to the sandy beach.

“Kat, help me get the boat into deeper waters,” Xander yelled. The fierce pirate nodded her understanding and they ran ahead to the small boat. They got on either side of the bow and began to push, their muscles straining as, between them, Xander and Kat got the boat down to the waterline. From there it became much easier to get the boat into the ocean current. The rest of the group quickly joined them and aided in pushing the boat further out into the ocean then quickly dived in. First Buffy then Dawn, Cosima, Laragh, Simone, Kat and finally Xander.

Laragh got hold of one of the oars and began rowing with all her might, though her arms ached from battling the cannibalistic natives and her body cried out for rest after the wounds she had incurred in the fight. The village people had finally gathered on the beach, more than a few armed with bows and arrows. They began to fire the arrows at the escaping pirates but all were missing the targets. Then one, either by chance or by fate, struck. There was a cry of pain and Xander slumped forward, an arrow protruding from his back.

Dawn looked on, shocked after seeing one of the few people she loved and cared about bleeding, first from a large wound on his chest and now an arrow in his back. Her eyes started to tear up and she started to ramble incoherently.

“Oh god’s, he’s dead isn’t he? Oh god’s they killed Xander, they killed Xander, Oh god’s Xander’s dead because of me. I killed Xander, Oh god’s, I killed Xander, I killed him, it’s all my fault, I kill…” A sharp slap to her face cut her short and she found the wide hazel eyes of her sister staring straight at her.

“Dawn, I need you with me. Blame can be ascertained later, Simone watch over her will you.” The younger girl nodded her assent and swapped her position on the boat with Buffy to sit next to her new friend. Simone placed a comforting arm round Dawn’s shoulders and Dawn leaned in closer resting her head on Simone’s shoulder while Kat took up Xander’s dropped oar.
*******************************************************
It didn’t take long before they arrived back at the Slayer and Buffy helped Xander up the ladder to the deck rail where Willow helped her two friends aboard.

“Here, get him down to the galley. Tara can help him,” Willow called out to two of the girls who had been standing ready to aid her. “Hoist up the boat, raise the anchor, lower the sails,” the Captain then called out, pausing only to glare at Dawn before heading to the helm to steer the ship to the safety of the open seas.
**********************************************************
“Thank you for helping us rescue Dawn. I don’t know what we would have done without you.”

The Slayer was a half-hour out at sea after having rescued Dawn from the savage islanders. Buffy, Kat and Willow were in Willow’s cabin and the two officers were congratulating Kat for her part in saving Buffy’s sister.

“Aye lass, ya did a good job there on the island,” added Willow as she poured three glasses of rum and handed two to her shipmates.

“Oh ‘twas nothin’ really, I’d a done the same for any of the girls,” replied Kat, before taking a big swallow of her drink.

“Ye should na be so modest,” Willow told her. “Buffy told me all about what you did on the island. Fighting a path through to Dawn, then covering for Simone as she cut her free, helping Xander push the jolly boat out on to the ocean currents and helping row it to safety. We owe ya a big debt of gratitude, there’ll be an extra share of the treasure in yer pockets when we get home.”

“Cap’n ye should’ nay cosset me so. Won’t it make the other girls jealous?”

“Leave the other girls ta me Kat, they give ya any trouble I’ll deal wi’ em. Ya did good today, ya should be proud o’ yerself, ya acted like a true Slayerette. I know in the past ye’ve caused more’n a bit o’ trouble fer me ta sort out.” The incident on Narina crossed Willow’s mind as she said that. “But today ya were there when ye were needed and made sure no one was left behind.” Willow placed her hand on the crewmembers shoulder, a look of pride on her face. “Kat, I’m glad ta have ya aboard and I hope ya stay a true an’ loyal Slayerette fer a long time ta come.”
There was then more high praise from Buffy thanking Kat before the crewmember was dismissed while the blonde and redhead had the uncomfortable prospect of deciding what to do about the cause of that day’s troubles.

“I’m gonna have ta put her on trial.”

“Do we have to?”

“Buffy, she could have got people killed today. Not just herself, but you, Chou-Lee, Cosima, Laragh, Simone, Shanna could have all been victims to that tribe, it’s bad enough Xander’s wounded. And I could‘a lost more’n good crewmembers…” Willow hesitated and her voice choked as she tried to continue. “I’d ‘a lost my two best friends as well.” She shut her eyes and took several deep breaths to compose herself. The Captain suddenly found herself in a tight hug.

“You’ll never lose me or Xander Will, I promise you.” All the redhead could do was return her friend’s hug whilst keeping her eyes tightly shut, just grateful that Buffy was there for her.
*************************************************
In the galley, Tara was dealing with Xander’s injuries, or trying to.

“Owie, owie, owie.”

“Umm, I’ve not touched you yet Xander.”

“Oh, sorry. I’ll, umm let you get on with it then,” a slightly shame faced Xander turned his head away, a blush forming over his cheeks.

Tara got a little more liniment on one of the strips of rag torn from her dress, now torn to such a length it revealed a sizable length of calf.

She had already dealt with the other injuries, Chou-Lee was very proud of the facial scar she had received from one of the spearmen and asked Tara not to tend it too much so that she had a trophy wound to be as proud of as her Captain’s.

Dawn had been checked out and, apart from some minor burns and smoke inhalation, which Tara easily remedied with a stroke of her hands over her assistants chest and back. The main thing was shock so Tara had given her a potion that she had prepared using some herbs from the stores and a little water and rum mixed together.

Cosima, Shanna, Laragh, Kat and Buffy all had minor cuts and wounds to their hands, arms and bodies. Amazingly, Simone somehow came through the whole thing unscathed despite having minor ability with the sword. That just left Xander who had had the worst injuries.

“Ow mommy it stings.”

“Xander,” Tara was exasperated with the young man who had defended her in the Laughing Lobster. She had spent the last half hour trying to put some liniment she had prepared on his chest and back where the machete and arrow wounds were. Each time he had made crying noises making him sound like a baby.

“Xander, if you d…don’t let me put this l…lotion on you I’ll g…get the Captain and Miss Buffy and they can pin you down while I rub this on you.”

“Would you really do that?”

Tara merely folded her arms across her chest and raised an eyebrow in response.

“Yeah you would. Ok, I promise not to cry this time.”

Xander felt a comfortable warmth spread throughout his body as the young blonde gingerly spread the liniment across the slash where the machete had caught him. He was so intent on keeping his word; Xander did not notice the glow emanating from Tara’s hand’s as she massaged the healing medicine into his skin.

As the blonde rubbed the liniment into his chest he let out a relaxed sigh, sat back and thought about the day he’d had.

As he did so, Tara examined the young man’s features properly for the first time since he had come to her defence at her father’s tavern. He still looked young and fresh faced but there was something in his eyes, a haunted look, as if the souls of all the lives he had taken were constantly in his line of sight. There were dark rings too, under his eyes. A testament to the hours he had spent on the night watch. There was a five o’ clock shadow on his face that was rapidly heading towards dusk.

As she considered Xander, Tara thought he looked rather handsome, in a rough unkempt sort of way. In fact, if she wasn’t so enamoured with a certain redhead she believed she would have wanted to sleep with him instead.

She laughed at herself over her ideas.

You with anyone? Don’t be silly Tara. What did father always say, a man likes a girl who is noisy and full of life. You, you’re as quiet as the grave, no one is going to want you.

A silent tear escaped Tara’s blue eyes and made its way down her cheek before she wiped it away. There’ll be time enough for crying later when everyone is in bed she admonished herself before getting Xander to turn over so she could deal with the arrow wound.
************************************************************
Dawn and Simone were sitting in the galley. Tara was out serving the evening meal to the rest of the crew, extra portions being given to the rescue party.

Simone’s voice was soft “I’m glad you’re safe.”

“Yeah, but if it hadn’t been for you or Kat I would have been lunch or supper to those people. Thank you for helping me escape.”
Simone just stared at Dawn, longing in her eyes.

“I’ve got my trial tomorrow. That’s going to be a laugh riot.” Dawn frowned wondering how she’d ever got herself into this predicament.

“If you want I’ll stand with you.” Simone placed a hand on Dawns knee and neither girl could ignore the shiver that ran up their spines. Dawn smiled at her friend and stroked Simone’s hand.

“Thanks but no, I don’t want you getting in trouble too. ‘Sides, Xander said he’d defend me.”

“Dawn, c’mon you’re on curfew,” came Buffy’s voice from the cabins.

“Ah well, time for beddy byes for Dawnie,” the girl said, the sarcasm dripping from every word.

As Dawn turned to go to the cabin she shared with her sister, Simone tapped her on the shoulder and Dawn turned back to her.

“You’re very beautiful,” Simone said and before Dawn could take this in Simone quickly closed the space between them and kissed the object of her affections once, softly, sweetly on the lips before heading up top to help trim the sails.

Dawn just gazed after her.

Wow

Great Chapter.

:lol :rofl That's hilarious.

I'm glad everyone's OK. I hope Dawn's punishment isn't too bad.

Katrina's modesty surprised me. I hope that means I (and everybody else) have misjudged he, but I fear that she's trying to act less suspicious before the mutiny.

Can't wait to see what happens next.

Damnit! I keep giving you bad ideas! Good ideas? Bad if it takes away from the Willow Tara sweetness. Good if it makes the story more intricate and stuff.

:love sweet :love hath charms to soothe the savage breast – even Dawn’s apparently! Nice scene, glad to see Dawn grow up a little.

Fun to hear Tara talk nasty and blush! :blush Love the banked embers of their hotness increasing more and more . . .

AND THE WINNER OF THE BEST SCREAM EVER: DAWN SUMMERS!!!
Quote:
“Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh.” The girl’s scream could have shattered glass.
:clap :clap :clap :clap

The three sides of Xander:
• The pig hunter fleeing for his life and cannibal hunted doing the same!
• The man of action who leaps into the fray to save a friend
• The little boy going “owie” under Tara’s care.
And of course the fine helmsman and even finer friend. Loved it!

Quote:
“You’re very beautiful,” Simone said and before Dawn could take this in Simone quickly closed the space between them and kissed the object of her affections once, softly, sweetly on the lips before heading up top to help trim the sails.

Dawn just gazed after her.

Wow

Wow, indeed! From humor to action to erotica then a sweet and tender finish! Terriffic! Mister, you can write it all! :flower

Still aboard, Cap’n Rick! Set sail for adventure and I’m with you all the way!

BuffyFan4ever All I can tell you about the next chapter is that there are some interesting conversations between Dawn and Willow, Kat and Simone. I mean, if I told you any more you wouldn’t read the story now would you.

Promethea128 Don’t worry Promethea. The ideas won’t take away from the forthcoming Willow and Tara sweetness, I assure you of that but it will add to the complexity of the story.

Ariel Yeah, she is definitely growing up and we’ll see more of that in this chapter. Have Tara swear is always fun, it just seemed really entertaining to have it unnatural for Tara to swear. And the fact that Willow just laughs shows how seriously she takes Dawn’s behaviour, i.e. not very. Also, there’s more hot, sweaty lust between the girls in this chapter.
Glad you caught that, I’ve never believed that Xander got much chance to show his heroic side on Buffy. I can only think of ‘The Zeppo’, ‘Grave’ and ‘Dirty Girl’s’ where he got to really show what he could do, and how brave he really was, so that’s one of the things I wanted to redress with this story.

Much more Dawn/Simone sweetness ahead, I promise.

Chapter 10 Guilt and Innocence

Dawn felt ashamed and embarrassed. She was being taken in wrist chains to the Captain’s cabin to stand trial for not following orders on the island of cannibals the Slayer had recently stopped at for extra food.

She was escorted by Alex and Laragh, both dressed formally in shirts, breeches and swords at their sides.

They halted in front of the door to Willow’s cabin and Laragh rapped sharply on the solid oak door.

“Enter,” came the Captain’ s voice from within and, after Alex had gotten hold of Dawn’s arm below the elbow, Laragh opened the door and the trio entered.
*******************************************************
Willow sat behind her desk in her dress uniform of formal shirt, leather coat and leather breeches. Her three-corner hat was set to one side on her desk. At either side of her were Xander and Buffy, both also dressed in formal uniform.

Dawn was dressed in the clean clothes she had been given when she had been rescued from the man-eating savage’s, a clean, short-sleeved shirt, cotton breeches and calf length boots. When Dawn tried to meet her sisters eyes Buffy averted her gaze.

Willow began to intone the reasons for meeting in her cabin

“We are convened here today for the trial of Dawn Summer’s, assistant to the galley cook. The charge is ignoring orders given her by a commanding officer.”

She stood in front of Willow’s desk while Laragh and Alex took up positions either side of the entrance to the cabin.

“Dawn, you are on a charge of wilfully ignoring the orders of a senior officer, namely Mr. Xander Harris. That after being told to stay with the landing party to which you had been assigned you walked off alone in a strange, unknown and unexplored island. You were then caught by a tribe of cannibals, endangering the lives of crewmembers who had to go and save you. What do you say to these charges Dawn?”

Whilst relating the charges Willow looked Dawn square in the face while the younger girl could only look down at her hands, still manacled. Now though she raised her head and returned the Captain’s gaze. Her voice was steady as she replied.

“Aye Captain, I accept all charges and take all responsibility for my action’s.”

Willow sighed deeply, this was something she was not enjoying at all.

“Dawn, before we pass judgment on you is there anyone here to speak on your behalf?”

Xander raised his hand. “Aye captain, here.”

He left his place by Willow’s side and walked round to the front standing by the girl’s side.

“Captain, while it is true that Dawn was a member of my landing party and did wander off, I believe at the same time it should be remembered that there are many girls aboard the Slayer and quite a few of them are new. Any one of them could have done what Dawn did. Maybe it was my fault and I should have kept a closer watch. But that is not the question here. Whilst I realise that the accused cannot go unpunished. I ask only that her punishment should not be too severe.” With those words Xander returned to his place by the Captain.

Willow took in what her lieutenant said and nodded. “Very well, is there anyone else here to speak on behalf of Dawn Summers?”

Everyone stayed where they where, Alex and Laragh exchanged glances, Xander and Buffy kept their gazes averted. Only Dawn and Willow kept their eyes locked on each other.

God’s she’s not a little bit afraid of me is she. Willow mused on Dawn’s reactions to her trial. That girl has the makings of a good Slayerette, and with a bit o’ tempering possibly a decent Captain too.

“Very well then, in that case Dawn Summer’s, for your punishment you shall be confined to your duties within the galley and your cabin. You will follow all orders given you by the galley cook. You will be stripped of any and all privileges till the end of the expedition.”

“Can ya all leave, I wanna talk ta Dawn alone. Alex, remove the manacles.”

“Are you sure about this Will?”

“I’m positive Buffy I’ll be ok on my own with Dawn, I just need to watch her fists,” Willow replied with a wry smile.

Alex unfastened the manacles with an iron key and Dawn rubbed life into her wrists where the metal had cut into the flesh. Willow nodded at Buffy who gave her a last look back before exiting the room, leaving the Captain and the stowaway alone. The redhead indicated that Dawn should sit which she did and poured two glasses of rum, passing one to the girl.

“So Dawn, quite a little quota yer racking up fer yerself. Arguing wi me at the base, stowing away on the Slayer, arguing wi me again an trying ta attack ya commanding officer, givin’ me some interesting names in front of another crewmember, running away from yer assigned shore party, endangering the lives of not only yerself but others also.” Willow took a long hard look at Dawn as if she were a prizefighter weighing up an opponent.

“Dawn, this is no pleasure cruise we’re on. I aint got the time ta wipe yer arse every time ya shit yer breeches, I got watch out fer all my girls not just one weak ass baby who only wants ta make a name fer herself .”
The ‘weak ass baby’ stood up indignantly at this, bristling angrily.

“It’s not like tha…”

“Did I say ya could speak, then shut the fuck up or I shut ya up, and I don’t care if yer Buffy’s sister, I’ll do it,” Willow growled menacingly.
For once Dawn was really scared of the Captain and sat down slowly, eyes wide with fear.

“If ya want ta fight me fine, I had ta go in fight pits to get the gold ta buy me first ship so I’ll wrestle anyone. But yesterday ya could a gotten yerself or others killed. Ya saw that arrow hit Xander.” Dawn nodded dumbly, no one had ever spoken to her this way before. “Did it ever occur to ya that it may have been poisoned?”

The younger girl blinked her eyes several times before shaking her head.

“Exactly, I coulda lost one of my crew and a friend due ta yer antics. Yer acting like a spoiled brat and I aint willing ta take anymore o’ ya shit Dawn. Ya shape up or get yer ass the fuck off my ship.”

The two girls just stared at each other each reluctant to say anything to the other. Eventually Willow spoke again.

“Dawn, are ya sure ya wanna be a Slayerette. That this is the life ya really want.”

“I don’t wanna be a pirate Willow; I just wanna be like you.”

“What d’ya mean, be like me?”

“After mom died there’s only been two people I’ve looked up to; Buffy, and you. I loved hearing all your tales of adventure when I was younger. About the days when you had to go in to fight pits and take on anyone just to get the money to survive. You were my best friend and my sister. I adore you because you’re strong, brave, courageous, caring, kind, loving. You defend the weak and helpless…And you’re wonderful.” Even though Dawn could feel her eyes watering up, she didn’t want to cry in front of Willow, didn’t want to show weakness so quickly dried her eyes and took a big gulp of rum.

Willow just nodded at this knowing that every word the young girl before her spoke was the truth. She remembered the hours that Dawn would just sit and listen to the tales of Willow’s exploit’s on her piratical escapades round the world.

“Who’s always been the first to greet you whenever you’ve returned from your expeditions? Me, and we both know it, I just wanted to be like you, be as tough as you so I could out-wrestle anyone, I could go on adventures and be as daring as you.”

Willow poured more rum into the now empty glasses as she contemplated everything Dawn had told her. It was all true, Dawn could never spend enough time with the young pirate and went almost everywhere Willow went except for senior crew meetings.

“Right here’s the arrangement, from now on ya gonna follow all orders given by any member of the crew. Ya don’t mouth off to anyone like ya do me. Prove to us ya can be a responsible member of the crew. If I can see ya doing that, if I’m getting good reports from others then we’ll see if we should make a full time crewmember or send ya someplace else when we get home. We got a bargain?”

Dawn nodded slowly, unsure if she had heard right. Willow was actually giving her a chance to start afresh. Maybe become a fully fledged Slayerette.

Willow raised her hand and, spitting on the palm, held it out for Dawn to take. The younger girl copied her idol’s gesture, took the captain’s calloused hand firmly in her own and shook it.

Willow grinned approvingly, “right then, just remember, it’s all up t’ye now. Go on, yer dismissed, get back t’ yer duties in the galley.”

Dawn just nodded dumbly once more, wondering how she had been able to get another chance, before stumbling out the door. Willow smiled wryly after her. God’s, was I ever that green meself.

********************************************************
“Ahoy there Dawn, how are ya?”

Dawn looked up to see Kat saunter over to her position by the ship’s rail where she stood during her usual break from her galley work. All Kat’s injuries from the battle with the cannibals had been erased apart from a scar on her forearm that went from the elbow down to the wrist that she asked Tara to leave.

“How are ya after yer excitement with them man-eaters t’other day?”

“Fine, I guess,” Dawn answered more than a little gloomily.

“Ya don’t look fine, oh wait yer trial, that were today weren’t it? So how did it go? It can’t have been all bad or she’d have ya overboard.”

“I have to follow all orders for the rest of the voyage then when we get home Cap’n’ll decide if I get to be a member of the crew or not.

“Don’t sound to bad to me lass, I known the Cap t’ feed others to the sharks if the mood takes her. Course it all depends on IF we get home, I mean we been out here fer weeks an’ the Cap don’t know where she’s goin. But I’m sure we’ll get back safe. Then I’m thinking of leaving.”
“Where would ya go?”

“I’m gonna follow me dream young un, I’m gonna get me own ship an crew. I might have a place fer you if yer interested.”

This piqued Dawn’s curiosity. “You would want me?”

“Oh aye Dawn, I’ve seen ya about and I know ye can more than handle yerself. I saw ya take on Willow the other day and even after she had ya beat ya were still willing ta take her on, hell I saw ya about ta smack her one. Now that I would’a liked ta see.” Kat smiled at the mental image of Willow falling flat on her ass after taking a punch from the young girl.

“You saw all that?”

“Aye girl, from my post in the nest. I heard a squabble from the deck n’ saw you an the Cap’n goin at it. I was hoping ta see a good wrestlin match between the Cap’n n’ yerself, still would come ta think of it.”

Dawn felt a glow of self-satisfaction surround her. Getting such praise from Kat was such a boost to her ego, especially as she knew that Kat was one of the best fighters in the crew, even Willow wasn’t as good at swordplay as Kat.

The younger girl felt eyes staring at her and she turned to see Kat looking at her strangely.

“What?”

“I was wonderin, how would ya feel if I showed ya how ta use yer sword a little better?”

“You want to give me extra lessons, show me how to fight properly using a sword?”

“Aye Dawn, I do. After all I canna have me first mate unable to defend herself now can I?”

“What, me…first mate…really?”

“I fail ta see why not. And I’m guessing you’re mighty pissed off with chopping up spuds with blondie.” Looking at Kat’s face all Dawn could see was total honesty there.

Wow, me, first mate on a ship with Kat. And she’s right it’ll be a hell of a lot better than chopping up fucking potatoes all the time, and I’ll be going on real adventures. To Dawn it felt as if all her dreams had come true and she nodded her head eagerly.

“Oh yes please Kat, I want you to show me how to use a sword the way you did in the cannibal’s village and I will come with you when you get your own ship. I wanna be like you.”

Kat smiled broadly at her new disciple, “I knew I could count on ya Dawn, ya got spunk and a bigger pair o’ balls on yer than that idiot friend of the Cap’ns. One thing though, not a word of this ta anyone ya hear?”

“Yeah, but I have a friend on board and I may be able to persuade her to join us, can I tell her?”

“Who is it?”

“Simone, one of the new girl’s. She’s about my height with sandy hair.”

Kat thought for a moment, “Aye Dawn, ya know what they say, the more the merrier. But apart from Simone tell no one else a’right?”

“Yeah, ok. When are we having the first lesson?”

“T’morrow eve, t’ward the stern.”

“I’ll be there.”

“I know ya will Dawn, I can trust ya not ta let me down.”

“Anyway, I gotta go back t’ me shit job now, I’ll see ya t’morrow eve.”

As Dawn headed back to the galley, a fond smile crossed Kat’s face.
***********************************************
“Hey there, I was wondering if I could spend my break in here, talk to Dawn?”

The cook and her reluctant assistant both looked up to see Simone standing in the doorway to the galley.

“Oh h…hello S…simone, of course you can come in as long as you d…don’t distract D…dawn from her work too much. I have to g…get supplies from the stores. Here, y…you can have one of these each.”
So saying she tossed an apple apiece to the two girls from a small pile on her side of the table before exiting the room.

“Tara seems nice.” Simone said as she sat on a stool facing Dawn. She took a bite from her apple and juices ran down her chin. Dawn found herself staring at the juice trail running down her new friend, her eyes having taken on a glazed look as if she were hypnotized.

“Are you alright Dawn, you seem a little flushed?”
The concern in her friend’s voice seemed to waken Dawn from her daze.

“Wha…oh er yeah, yeah I’m fine. Brain just went for a wander y’know.” She had a big goofy grin on her face, which Simone reciprocated.

“You’re really silly, you know that.”

“Well yeah, but it’s why ya love me right?” Dawn’s grin became even bigger.

Yeah, it is why I love you Dawn.

Instead of speaking out loud though, Simone just kept returning the smile.

“How did ya wind up here on the Slayer?” Dawn enquired after the quiet became awkward.

“Willow, the Cap’n I should say, rescued me. But I was so lucky I’m amazed I hadn’t died before she found me.”

“What d’ya mean?”

“My parents were cruel people Dawn; they made me sleep in the cellar which was always cold, dank and dark. I could never sleep properly because I was trying to avoid the spiders, and the cockroaches and beetles, which would constantly clamber over me. Then they would beat me regularly even for the smallest violation. Sometimes they even made things up just for an excuse to hit me like snoring too loudly, which I’ve never done. I think they just enjoyed inflicting pain for the sake of it. Even to this day their marks are still with me, look”.

Simone stood up and turned her back to Dawn. She raised the back of her shirt and what Dawn saw there horrified her. Her friends back was literally covered in welts so thick you could see the crease pattern of the belt that had been used on her because it had been imprinted on the girl’s bare skin. Here and there were jagged scars in the flesh where some sharp instrument had been employed to cut and tear her skin. Dawn, despite her feelings of nausea wanted to touch the bare skin, to feel the marks of the brutal punishments that stained Simone’s back. Her hand slowly crept forward but before it could reach its goal, the sandy haired girl dropped the shirt back onto place and turned to face Dawn again.

“Then, it got worse for me; my father started taking me to inns and renting me out to other men to…” Simone left the sentence hanging but Dawn understood what she left unsaid. So many of the girls that Willow took on as Slayerettes the pirate had liberated from prostitution at the hands of men.

“And if no one was interested then they would beat me and hurt me and it still hurts and I don’t know why…” Simone’s eyes had started to well up with tears, the remembrance being painful to the girl. Dawn quickly placed her arms around the girl in a loving embrace allowing Simone to weep in to the shoulder of her shirt.

“Shh baby, it’s ok cos I’m here and I won’t allow anyone to hurt you ever again,” she kissed Simone on the top of her head and rocked the girl gently. Dawn couldn’t understand why anyone would want to hurt this girl.

To her the whole thing was just plain evil and Dawn hated any form of evil or cruelty.

I wish her parents were here right now so I could kick the shit outta them for hurting my girl, the fuckers. Wait, did I just call Simone my girl????

Simone’s sobs had subsided by this time but she still held into Dawn’s tender hug. Never in her life had she felt so safe, loved or protected. It was a whole new feeling for the girl, but a wondrous, joyful one, and she wondered if she would ever reveal her feelings to her new friend.
Simone pulled back from Dawn’s embrace a little but held onto her bare arms that felt warm and comforting within the cool of the galley.

“Dawn,” Simone began hesitantly, unsure if she was doing the right thing in revealing her feelings to the other girl. “I…you know how the Cap’n likes girls?”

“Yeah,” Dawn answered cautiously, not really sure if she was prepared for what Simone was going to tell her.

“Well, I…I like girls too. Well a…actually its one girl that I like.”
Dawn thought that Simone sounded a little like Tara when she stammered.

“I like you Dawn, I like you a lot. In fact I love you.”

With that confession, Simone turned her head down to the floor, apprehensive about her friend’s response. Dawn stood looking at Simone as she took in Simone’s admittance of her love, and how Dawn herself felt toward her best friend.

She couldn’t think of the words so Dawn allowed her actions to speak for her. She gently wrapped her arms round Simone’s back and pulled her body closer. They took in each other’s faces and Simone was astonished at the love Dawn’s eyes held for her. Slowly the girl’s heads came closer until each could feel the others warm breath on their skin. Dawns hazel eyes gazed into Simone’s soft grey ones, each girl melting into the others gaze.

Then their lips met and for both of them it was the most magical experience of their lives. Dawn felt her nipples hardening under the rough cotton of her shirt whilst a fire started in her belly. She closed her eyes and saw a million stars glow brilliantly. She wanted to slip her arms up the back of Simone’s shirt and stroke the battered flesh there, but didn’t dare for fear of possibly hurting Simone.

Simone moved closer to Dawn, deepening the kiss, and that was when she knew. Knew that she didn’t just want Dawn but needed her, needed her more than anything in the world. Her breasts pressed into the other girls and slid her hands up the back of Dawn’s shirt stroking the warm, smooth skin there.

She pulled away from the kiss and gazed deeply in Dawn’s eyes.

“Dawn, I want us to sleep together,” it was spoken plainly but honestly, direct from her heart.

“Uh wh…what, what’ya say now? Simone’s request caught Dawn completely off guard and.

Simone saw the alarm in Dawn’s eyes and quickly worked to calm her friend.

“Don’t worry, we don’t have to do anything until you’re ready. The only thing I’m sure of is that I love you and want to be with you.”

Dawn took this in and gave a little smile to Simone. Dawn looked down at her shirt and unclipped the brooch attached. It was in the shape of a butterfly in flight, the wings decorated with small pieces of ruby and emerald and amber that flashed red, green and orange in the light.

“Here, I want you to have this,” she said handing it to her now lover. “My mother gave it to me when I was a child, she told me she gave it to me because she loved me and that should I ever give it to someone else, then it should be someone that I love and trust.”

“You don’t have to give me anything,” came the reply, “I love you already.

“And I love you too, that’s why I’m giving it you.” As she said this, Dawn attached the brooch to Simone’s own shirt then cupped the girl’s cheeks and kissed those soft, warm lips with her own, Simone’s soft moan made Dawn’s own desire grow. She felt it in her body and wondered if this is how Willow felt when she was with other girls.
********************************************************

Tara stood against the rail on the other side of the ship taking in the site of the waters upon which the Slayer sailed. She basked in the glorious warmth from the tropical sun overhead, her bare arms and legs glowing with a light tan. She turned to face the deck her sight taking in the girls going about their work. Her eyes turned to the helm where Willow was at the wheel whistling cheerfully and the sight of the lively redhead made the blonde’s mouth water.

Willow was dressed very simply in a pair of black cotton breeches that stopped just below the knee showing strong, firm calves. A plain cotton vest with the bottom torn revealed her bare abdomen. An acre of smooth, freckled flesh, firm with compact muscles and lightly browned from the sun.

Willow left the wheel in Xander's hands and went to the water barrel, using the ladle to quench her thirst. She then tossed her head back and dribbled water down her face and vest top. The water trickled down her throat like a waterfall pouring down her chest making the material stick to the bare flesh beneath and making the curve of her breasts stand out.

Tara wondered how it would feel to have that lithe body atop her own, those lips pressed against hers, her own arms holding Willow close, stroking the smooth skin of the back.

As these thoughts ran through Tara’s mind another, unbidden one arrived in the wake of her Willow based daydreams.

Oh goddess, could it… Am, am I falling in love with the Captain?

“Hey Tara, Tara.” A voice woke her from her reverie and she looked up to see Willow waving at her, beckoning Tara to join her at the helm.

“Here, I’ll show ya how ta control the ship
Willow stood to one side allowing Tara to stand at the helm.

“Here lass, ya put yer hands here.” Willow gently guided Tara’s hands onto the wooden rods on the wheel. The wheel felt smooth and polished beneath Tara’s palms while Willow’s hands on top felt warm, the calluses gently rough against Tara’s skin.

“A’right, now to make the ship turn a certain way we have to turn the wheel in the opposite direction.”

“H…how do you mean?”

“Well, say fer instance we saw an island that was two miles in an easterly direction…”

“W…what, I don’t quite understand,” said a confused Tara, not quite sure of Willows explanation. The redhead, seeing the puzzled look on Tara’s face, decided to simplify it a little.”

“S’posin the watch up in the nest,” she began indicating the crows nest, “saw an island two leagues in that direction.” Willow pointed eastwards and her student nodded her understanding.

“Well we take the wheel here and turn her this ’aways.” So saying, her hands still covering Tara’s, the young pirate then turned the wheel to the west.

“Why don’t we turn the wheel in the direction we want to go?” The blonde asked.

“Well, y’see Tare, the rudder which is what turns us. It kinda turns us against the water so that the way we end up is in the direction we wanna go, aint that right Buff.” Willow put the question to her friend in the hopes she could actually describe how the rudder actually worked.

“There that’s the way,” Willow whispered softly in Tara’s ear as she moved her body in towards the blonde’s so she could look over her shoulder and keep an eye on the direction the ship was taking.

Tara felt the other girl’s breasts pressing into her back and found herself swallowing hard. The scent from Willow was so arousing to Tara; she closed her eyes and breathed deeply, inhaling the perfume that was so intoxicating to her. The redhead’s bare leg rubbed against Tara’s own naked calf and her breath caught in her throat. She just couldn’t believe that someone as rough as Willow could be just so tender with her touch.

A small smile spread over Tara’s lips as she felt the pirate captain kissing her softly on the back of her neck, slowly working her way round to the cheeks, pressing those sweet lips to the warm skin.

Willow’s callus-roughened hands were no longer on her own but had slid up her cotton dress and were resting on her hips, squeezing and massaging her there. She felt tingles up and down her spine as she felt Willow kneading the flesh. She began to wish that Willow would move those soft warm hands of hers further up the body. Across the soft skin of her belly, up to the curve of her breasts that ached for the roughened touch of the pirates hands. Tara felt her clit swell and her juices start to run down her leg. Tingles were running up and down her spine, a feeling she had never experienced before in her life.

Suddenly Willow turned her round so they faced each other. She gazed into that face she adored so much, those green eyes that sparkled with life, the mischievous smile that reminded Tara so much of a likably naughty child. The young blonde could still not believe that Willow had wanted to rescue her from her father, and then after that, offered her the opportunity to follow her own path through life and go wherever she wanted.

Sapphires met emeralds and Tara felt a hitch in her throat, for she knew that if she followed her heart right now, there would be no going back. Willow’s head moved towards the blondes and Tara, slowly, reciprocated the move til they were only a hair’s breadth apart, their breaths, warm and gentle on the others face.

“Tara, Tara are y a’right there lass?”

“Uh…wha…uh,” Tara replied as she awoke from her daydream. She found herself looking around wondering what she was doing. Then she felt how close Willow was to her and wondered if daydream had been a dream after all.

“Are ya alright there lass, ye look a little flushed ta say the least.”

“YES, I mean yes I’m fine thank you Captain ma’, I mean Cap’n.”

“Willow grinned at her, “By lass, I got ya all hot and bothered din’t I.”

“Er…yes erm Captain I think I need to go finish off the meal for tonight,” and with those words Tara quickly fled the deck to seek the coolness below decks and try to quell her ardour for Willow.
************************************************************
“Cap’n, Will,” Xander called out, his voice edged with nervousness,” ya should better take a look at this.”

Willow left her swordsmanship class and approached the helm. Her eyes widened in wonder, “what the hell!!!”

As she gazed where Xander and the other girls were watching she saw a weird mist start to roll in. It was an eerie eldritch green and appeared to have rolled in from nowhere. As the crew watched, the mist became incredibly thick in a matter of seconds.

Well fuck, this don’t look good

“Light all the lanterns, all of em and get em up front, someone get aloft in the nest.” Willow barked out the orders trying to keep fear out of her voice. She knew that if her crew heard just the slightest tremor in her speech, particularly Xander who had a great fear of magick and the unknown, they themselves would begin to worry and a crew that were pissing themselves out of terror would be of no use to her.

“What is it? What’s going on?” Tara had come up out of the galley, Dawn close on her heels after she had felt something in her bones. Something that felt like dark magick.

“Oh my goddess,” the blonde girl whispered under her breath as she saw the thick coalescence of the mist. She was unaware of her heart practically slamming against her ribcage, the fear she felt regarding the weird fog was so incredibly intense. But her fear for her new friends being hurt was even stronger. As she looked about her, Tara saw crewmembers staring at the uncanny mist in fright and panic and wished that there were something she could do to alleviate them.

“Dawn, I’m scared,” Simone came over to Dawn and stood by her.
Dawn heard the tinge of fear in her friend’s voice and knew she was needed.

“Don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen t’ya,” Dawn replied. I swear I won’t, she added to herself as she wrapped a protective arm around Simone’s waist.

They were deeper into the mist now and at the bow of the ship all the night lanterns had been lit and put up for extra illumination, though they didn’t appear to be providing much light within the unnatural green murk. All round fearful Slayerettes had gotten together in small groups of two or three, hands on the hilts of their swords. The only one who didn’t appear worried in any way was Willow as she stood by Xander even though she was possibly the most worried of them all with the fear she may lose her vessel as well as her entire crew.

By now, the mist had completely enveloped the ship and the crew could only see a few feet ahead of them. Looking around Tara realized that the crew needed something to help alleviate their worry. She quickly understood that the main thing causing their fear was the lack of normal light, with the eldritch haze blocking the bright light of the sun. She looked around, ensuring no one was watching her but everyone was too engaged in staring at the green mist. Tara quickly went across to the rigging and started to climb. The rope felt strange to her bare feet, not exactly smooth yet not quite rough. As she ascended, it became clear how far up she was climbing and a shiver of nervousness ran up her spine.

Finally, she reached the top and clambered into the crows nest. She stopped to catch her breath and missed the shape as it crouched down into the shadows of the nest. Having got her breath back Tara looked toward the for’ard section of the ship. As she focused on the glow from the lamps she cupped and raised her hands, palm up and started to mutter a few words repeatedly.

“Ashara nonaca scoverid.” She chanted those three words over and again, her eyes constantly focused on the faint glow from the front of the ship. As she did so, a faint blue/white light appeared in the palm of her hands.

The chant became louder and the glow became brighter and stronger becoming a ball of light that was growing larger. It became too big to be held in Tara’s hands and she gently let them fall to her sides, still chanting all the time. The ball of light hovered in the air, glowing like a beautiful star. One of the girls looked up by chance and was amazed by what she saw there. Tara looked like a goddess standing there in the crow’s nest, her body lit up by the radiant luminosity emanating from the floating ball of light.

“God’s, who is that,” as she spoke her companion turned to look up at the illuminated figure.

Willow was becoming aware that more of the girls were looking upwards and took a moment to look up at the figure in the crow’s nest. It took her a few seconds to realize who the figure was.

“What in the hell’s is she doing up there?” She said to herself, agog the blonde galley cook would risk her life that way. And what was that strange light?

Unaware that everyone was staring at her Tara began started a new chant
“Virelad napitac ancano.” Upon Tara’s new incantation the ball of light started to float down the length of the boat until it reached the for’ard section. There it settled, hovering above the smaller lamps and providing greater lighting.

Satisfied that there was more light for everyone to see by she prepared to make her way back down the rigging. However, as everyone was distracted by the blonde no one noticed the other ship crossing their path. Until there was a sudden sickening lurch and the crunching sound of wood forcefully grinding against wood as the prow of the Slayer smashed into the other ship. Girls fell to the deck of the slayer or against the sides while Willow was suddenly tossed against Xander knocking him clear of the helm. One Slayerette was unable to grab hold of anything for safety and found herself being thrown into the water, only it wasn’t water. The liquid within the green mist burnt at her skin like acid, her flesh melting upon contact with it. The girl had barely any time to cry out for help before she was dead, and no one noticed.

The two ships crashing together almost made Tara lose her footing as she sat astride the edge of the crow’s nest, but she held on tightly, the figure however had moved into a position behind her. Then, just as it seemed that the ship had stopped and she was about to swing her other leg over the edge of the nest a firm hand pushed her hard. She lost her grip and finding herself falling at great speed toward the deck, began to scream.

Rick,

Another exciting installment! Loving Dawn getting the trial treatment:

Quote:

Great to see “the spoiled brat” take some responsibility for her actions!

AND THEN SHE FALLS FOR THIS!
Quote:

Dawn, Dawn! Wake up, Wake up! Kat = Evil!!!! :devil :rage :fit :angry :devilish

Quote:

:love Sweet, young, goofy love – beautifully and comically captured! :flower
Then their tender coming together, the first kiss and the declaration of love. Very, precious and sweet.

Quote:

Okay, major hotness alert!!! The Hot-o-meter if off the charts! And those various Willow and Tara fantasies are killing me, but what a way to go! :party :pinky :party

Lots and lots here, plus an AMAZING CLIFF-HANGER! So somebody save Tara FAST because I want more!

Write! :kgeek Write! :kgeek Write! :kgeek

Hey...sory I missed the last couple updates:( But, I'm all caught up now!

Dawn just cannot seem to keep herself out of trouble, can she? :smash :smash :smash Even in the pirate world...she's just as annoying as ever! lol

I have to say that I seriously wish W/T would stop all these daydreams and get some reality going! Life is just too short, especially in the world they live in..quit wasting time already!! :wtkiss :wtkiss :wtkiss

Who the hell pushed Tara anyway? Hopefully we don't have to wait too long for the outcome???

Great job...keep 'em coming!

wiccanvixen Rest assured, Willow is gonna be doing some serious ass kicking on Tara’s behalf.

Ariel Once again, you are too generous with your words of praise. Yeah, Dawn was going to have to answer for her actions over the past few chapters. At the same time though, Willow also sees some positive things in Dawn’s character and is willing to give her another chance as long as she follows orders. As to believing Kat, Dawn is still very naïve and believes Kat because she is very charismatic which is how Kat has been able to get so many girls on her side but Dawn is going to learn the truth soon. There is much sweetness going on between Dawn and Simone and I promise more in this chapter too.
You think that description of Willow was hot? Well it’s gonna get a whole lot hotter between her and Tara. Really hot and steamy ;).

Finey McFine Hey Shelby, don’t worry about it I’ve been a little behind in ‘Racing the Rain’ so we’re even. Yeah Dawn does have that ability to get into trouble easily. She’s actually Willow’s Mini-Me lol.
Don’t worry, in a couple of chapters Willow and Tara and some big time smut. :drool
Yeah, who the hell did push Tara? But more to the point whose going to rescue her.
Keep reading Shelby, lots more adventure, excitement and lovin to come ;)

THE ADVENTURES OF CAP’N RED ROSENBERG
DEAD MAN’S ISLAND

Author; Willowtaralover

Disclaimer; All Buffy characters are owned by Joss Whedon, Mutant Enemy and Fox. I own all original characters, concepts, and anything else they didn’t use.

Rating; PG13-R for sex, violence and naughty swearing.

Story; Rough, tough pirate Captain Willow ‘Red’ Rosenberg is on the hunt for treasure but gets more than she bargained for including romance with a blonde beauty, betrayal from a crew member, and danger from a necromancer, and his undead army, who is intent on resurrecting an evil goddess.

Sorry about the delay in getting this chapter up. It’s taken massive amounts of writing, re-writing, editing and re-editing to get right. In fact the chapter is so huge it’s going up in two parts, this being part A. So I’ve not been spending my time playing Lego Harry Potter on my DS, honest ‘whistles innocently’ ;)

Chapter 11

The Ghost Ship a)
**********************************************************************
As Tara was about to swing her leg over the edge of the nest, a firm hand pushed her hard. She lost her grip and found herself falling at great speed toward the deck.
“Oh god’s no!” Dawn whispered in horror as the galley cook fell to what to her impending death.
****************************************************
In his sanctum on the island, the pale man watched the incidents aboard the Slayer. As he saw Tara being pushed out of the crows nest his eyes flashed with anger as she plummeted to her doom.

“No, it is too early, she must achieve her destiny,” he hissed with the unsuppressed fury of one who has planned for centuries.

“Epor’ue anniel furus,” he snarled out and pointed his fingers towards the green water pool. Red lightning flashed and crackled from his fingers and disappeared within the pool.
*********************************************************
Almost instantaneously, a small cushion of air started to swirl around Tara slowing her descent so that she was able to grab a hold of the rigging and stop her fall completely. She hung there, hands and toes gripping tight to the ropes, gasping for air, tears leaking from her eyes, as she slowly took in the knowledge that she was still alive, though Honadel alone knew why?
***********************************************
Once he was assured of Tara’s safety the man on the island allowed himself a small smile that was more akin to a sneer before turning to an object behind him, covered in a black velvet cloth and sitting atop a small onyx altar. He then humbled himself, kneeling low on the floor and bowing before the covered item. In this pose of penitence, he spoke to it.

“As I promised you my holy queen, the one is coming. The one who will awake you from your slumber.”
He dared glance up but for a second at the object before dropping his head back to the floor, this time out of fear.
*************************************************
As soon as the crew saw that Tara was safe, Kat and Shanna leapt on to the rigging and quickly clambered up to where the blonde girl was holding on for dear life ready to help her down to safety.

“It’s a’right girl, we got ya,” Shanna assured Tara as she placed her hand over the blonde’s.
Tara still kept her eyes tightly closed and jumped slightly when she felt Shanna’s warm hand’s brush over her own.

“Woah there lass, ya don’ wanna hit the deck. Could hurt yerself a bit,” Kat commented with a wry smile.

“Don’t let me fall, please don’t let me fall,” Tara wailed fearfully. She had never felt this frightened before, not even when under her father’s rule in his inn. It wasn’t the thought of just dying that scared her, but dying in a horrible, possibly painful manner that terrified her.

“It’s a’right, ye aint gonna fall but ya need ta get a hold of ma hand,” Shanna told Tara firmly to allay her fears and stop her from freaking out, as this may lead not only to her death but possibly also Shanna’s and Kat’s.

“I…I…I c…can’t,” Tara stuttered this time though it was purely out of fear that brought about her impediment.

“Ya can, I know ya can Tara,” Kat said gently to encourage her. “jest move yer hand slowly to Shan’s til yer in her reach
Heartened by the two girls on either side of her, giving her encouragement, Tara, ever so slowly, reached her arm out towards Shanna who kept talking and supporting her.

“A’right Tara, yer doin good there girl, no don’ look down, jes keep yer eyes on me. That’s the way lass ya nearly made it jes another inch go on, go on nearly, yes, that’s it I’ve got yer now.” Tara was able to breath a sight of relief as she felt Shanna’s warm hand cover her own.

“Right, now we’re gonna get ya down the rigging ta the deck, don’ worry. We do this one step at a time.” So saying Shanna then took a step down on the rigging, stretching the grip between her own and Tara’s hands. Both Slayerettes kept a careful watch on the blonde as she followed Shanna in her descent of the rigging. As soon as Tara was on the next rung down, she was swiftly followed by Kat who kept a tight grip on Tara’s other hand.

They kept up this pattern all the way down, first Shanna, then Tara and lastly Kat. Finally, after much awkwardness and more than a little hesitation on Tara’s part, she was safe on the deck again, taking deep breaths as she realised that she was safe and sound again. Willow was the first to greet her, taking Tara’s hands in her own. The concern etched onto her face was echoed in her voice.

“God’s Tara, ya gave us a panic there, are ya alright?”

“I…I…I think,” Tara started before without any warning, she threw herself into the Captain’s arms and burst into tears.

“It’s a’right lass I got ya,” Willow murmured softly in her ear while gently rubbing her hand in a loose circular pattern on the young blonde’s back. She felt silk soft strands of hair tumble from Tara’s head against her face and onto her bare shoulders. Their breasts were squeezing against each other and in that moment, Willow just wanted to spend her life like this. As far as she was concerned, even if Verminas didn’t exist she had still found something of even greater value. Someone, after years of loneliness, to love. She was just so relieved to have this beautiful young woman safe that Willow had completely forgotten about seeing Tara in the crow’s nest surrounded by a glowing halo of light.

“Ya feeling better now?” Willow asked after Tara had pulled away from their sudden hug. Though she had stopped crying her eyes were red and the pirate could easily trace the course of the tears down Tara’s face.
Tara nodded a little, swallowing hard before speaking.

“I…I am a…a little better Ca…captain.”

“It’s best ya get a bit of a rest in the galley and come back on deck when you’re properly recovered.” She turned to see Buffy’s sister and her new friend standing at the side still looking up at the crow’s nest, then each other, both unable to believe what they had seen.

“Dawn, Simone what ya standing there gaping fer? Here I got a job fer ya. Help Tara to the galley and give her anything she asks fer, water, rum, food, and don’t leave her alone. Wherever she goes, whatever she does, you two have ta go as well. You two are Tara’s personal guards from now on, is that understood?”

“Aye Cap’n,” the two young girls replied and as Simone took Tara gently by the arm while Dawn led the way to the safety of the galley.

As all eyes were focused on Tara’s safe return, no one noticed a figure silently scurrying down the rigging. It shared a look with another of the crew and set off below decks.
******************************************************
The darkened Figure made its furtive way down the corridor, ensuring at all times that it was not being followed. The Figure stopped outside the door to the Captain’s cabin, its fist rapped gently on the door then waited. After being assured no one was in the cabin, the hand turned the cabin handle and pushed the door open. The Figure cringed immediately as the hinges of the door suddenly let up a frightful groaning, creaking noise that appeared to echo the length and breadth of the ships supernaturally enhanced corridors. The Figure knew that no one would have heard it on deck as everybody up top was far more occupied with the rescue of Tara and finding out what the ship had crashed into. However anyone sleeping or on a break below decks may have heard the door. Straightaway The Figure was on guard, checking that no one was coming to at investigate from either end of the passage. Satisfied that all below decks were at rest, The Figure headed in to the Captain’s cabin quietly closing the door behind itself.

Dust motes swirled in the air, tiny cyclones of dust revealed only by the sun shining in through the window behind Willow’s desk. Rather the remains of the window after the battle that had ensued at Narina. The remaining glass was made up of little squares of colour patterned the floor of the cabin in shades of red, yellow and blue.

Heading over to the shelves, The Figure started to look through numerous maps and pieces of documentation tied with ribbon or string there until it found what it was looking for. Various pieces of parchment rolled up and bound with ribbon or string. It selected four of these, placing the rest back carefully. Before it exited the cabin, The Figure checked thoroughly to ensure that nobody, especially the Captain, would know that anybody had been in the cabin then left, again checking that no one was in the vicinity to see them leave.

The Figure made its way down the corridors of the Slayer, nodding and smiling cheerfully at the few crewmembers it passed until it arrived at another door. It knocked three times, waited five seconds then knocked twice more. As The Figure waited, it heard the person inside the cabin drag itself across the room until, finally the latch unlocked and the door opened a crack.

“What’dya want?” Grumbled the female voice from within.

“I got these for your boss,” The Figure replied withdrawing the four rolled up parchments and handing them over. They’re maps, I thought they’d be useful for when you kick the Cap’n off. I want you to let your boss know, I want in”
The girl within the cabin unfurled one of the maps and scrutinised it carefully before turning back to her visitor.

“Yeah, this’ll do at least. Did you see if the cap was doing a map of where we were or if she had one?”

“No, if she has one it’s well secured.”

“Alright, I’ll hand these over to the boss when I see her later and I’ll let her know you brought them and you want to join the coup.

At least we’ll finally start to get fair shares of treasure. You’d best get back to where you should be, afore you’re missed.”
The Figure nodded at this and departed, heading in the direction of the steps leading to the deck. The girl behind the door looked in both directions once, espying the back of she who had produced the maps before The Figure turned and headed upwards and out of the dim light of below decks into the brightness of the day.
**********************************************************
Up on deck all was in chaos. Girls were hurrying back and forth trying to get everything sorted after the crash into the other ship. Some girls were checking others for injuries and bandaging them up as best they could. Others were up at the front of the ship to see if any serious damage had been caused to the front of the Slayer. No one had actually noticed that the mysterious mist had faded as quickly as it had arrived

“Get those damn lights out, we need to save on the candles, someone shift the chase gun,” Willow cried out giving the rest of the girls jobs instead of allowing them to swarm round the for’ard section of the ship.

“What’s the problem Xander?”

“It looks as if the weapon has got stuck in the keel of that ship o’er there. I’ve tried calling em but there’s no reply.”

“A’right, can ya run some kinda bridge between our ship and that o’er there?”

“Aye, I reckons I can Captain, who’d ya want ta go over?”

“I’ll take some girls and Buffy can lead some too. We’ll strip it of all we can carry. When Tara’s a bit better mebbe she can go wi’ Dawn and Simone ‘n they can grab any food they find. Tara’s a grand cook but I’m getting a bit bored wi’ boar. I feel that if I eat anymore I’ll grow a curly tail and snout meself.” She chuckled at her own joke while Xander just smiled faintly.

“An’ what do I do? Am I bein’ punished fer losing Dawn last time?”

“Nay Xan, t’weren’t yer fault. She knew the rules and disobeyed em. Sides, the fact ya could’a died shook her up a fair bit, she’s promised to stay in line from now on.

“What I want ya ta do Xan, is see if there’s a way ye can get Slayer free from the other ship. Ya can do whatever ya like, if ya havta scuttle her go ahead jus let us know first, ya know I have that problem wi’ water.”

“Tha’s what I love about ya Will, ya set out ta sea and became a pirate but ya can’t even swim,” Xander grinned at his friend who looked back at him with a mock frown.

“Ya let the rest of the crew hear that Xander Harris and ya’ll find yerself swimming home.”

“At least I can swim,” he replied with more than a little smugness.”

“Ya cheeky bastard,” she growled back, but there was no disguising the laughter in her voice and she grinned hugely before they both burst out laughing, Willow slapping the young man playfully on the arm.”

“A’right Will, I’ll have it checked out, I may havta send a couple a swimmers down ta check how badly trapped the weapon is.”

“They should be ok, no sharks in these waters. At least none that I’ve seen. Well I’ll get Buffy and get a boarding party together. ” With those words, the pirate Captain set off in search of one lieutenant while the other set to work on how to extricate the Slayer from where it was presently trapped.
************************************************************
“Miss Tara, are you alright?” Simone was watching Tara who was sat on a stool at the galley table, a silver goblet of water in front of her while Simone sat opposite. Tara’s hands were trembling, her eyes wide with fear.

She started suddenly at Simone’s soft voice and turned to look at her bodyguard. The sandy haired girl was observing her with concern, afraid that, though Tara may not have been hurt physically in the fall, the incident may have affected her in other ways. Ways that bandages could not heal. Simone sincerely hoped not, she genuinely liked the blonde galley cook and wanted to be good friends with her. In fact, before Dawn had entered her life she had mused on approaching Tara as a prospective lover.

“I…I…I’m fine thank you Simone, j…just sh…shaken up by th…the fall I h…had.” Tara gave a small shy smile, which the other girl returned.

Dawn watched all this from the side of the galley where she stood leaning against the wall, arms folded across her chest, the look on her face revealing her distaste for the job she had been given. This wasn’t a job she had wanted. She wanted to be a bold, brave adventuress, out on the high seas, the wind whipping through her hair as she stood tall and proud on the forecastle. Her crew ready and willing to follow any and all orders given by her. Not babysit a galley cook. Still, she had given her word to Willow that she would follow all orders given her and she would keep her word. Either that or stay confined to the galley and her cabin for the rest of the voyage. And if that happened she would never be able to spend more time with Simone.

The thought of Simone started to make Dawn smile. The thought of those soft lips against her own, the velvet texture of Simone’s tongue caressing her lips wanting entrance, her hands, soft and warm on her back, holding her in a tight embrace while gently kneading the muscles there, those firm yet supple breasts pressing against hers.

“Dawn? Dawn, are you alright?” The voice sounded faint as if it were coming from the far end of a very long tunnel. Slowly, she opened eyes she never even realised she had closed only to find…

Simone and Tara were staring at her curiously. Simone had been the first to see it when she noticed that her friend appeared to be kissing thin air. Simone’s staring had drawn Tara’s attention to Dawn’s unusual behaviour and they were now both looking at the other girl in wonderment.

“Are you ok Dawn,” Tara asked, the concern in her voice equal to Simone’s.

I don’t believe this, Tara is the one who nearly died today but she’s asking if I’m ok? Dawn didn’t appreciate the irony of the moment.

“Yeah, I…I’m fine, just d…didn’t get a lot of sleep last night, that’s all.” The sentence was stammered out as if she were a kid trying to explain why her hands had been found in the cookie jar.

Dawn started to whistle tunelessly and look around the room; her eyes peeking back towards Tara and Simone every couple of seconds who were now staring at the girl as if she had grown another head.
Dawn was spared further embarrassment by the arrival of her sister who cast a glance towards Tara before going to her sibling.

“How is she?” Buffy asked nodding her head in Tara’s direction. This made Tara frown and she coughed loudly, attracting the attention of the two sisters.

“I am in the room you know, you could come and ask me how I’m feeling.” There was an underlying tone of anger in the young blonde’s soft voice. An anger that was reflected in her blue eyes as they flashed like lightning for a second, but it was enough to catch Buffy off guard, not expecting such fire from the shy galley cook. She hesitated, blushing with embarrassment.

“Sorry Tara, I er… I just didn’t think. I thought you were still a little shaken by that fall.”

As quickly as it had arrived, the threatening storm that was Tara’s anger was calm and her features were once again placid.

“It’s alright Miss Buffy,” she said giving her fellow blonde a shy smile. “I just don’t like being spoken about as if I’m not here. That happened all the time back…” he voice faltered as she recalled the times she had been working in her father’s tavern, the times her father and brother had spoken about her as if she didn’t exist, the way they would mock her if she tried to say something. Tara had quickly learned that her opinion obviously counted for naught and that she herself was only tolerated as someone who could be used as unpaid labour. Of course that was until Willow, Xander and Buffy had rescued her and while she hadn’t looked back since that day, nightmares sometimes occurred reminding her of her brutal past.

“No, I should have thought first, are you alright? It’s just that Will…the Cap’n needs someone to go over to the other ship to take any food stores that are over there. We weren’t sure if you were up to it after the fall, but you’re the only one who knows where we’re up to with the food and now I’m starting to babble like Willow.”

Buffy looked over at Tara who was gazing back, single eyebrow raised, the lop-sided smile on her face that had endeared her to so many of the crew and humour twinkling in her sapphire eyes.

“D…don’t worry Miss Buffy, “I’ll g…go over and see if there are any foodstuffs we can use. A…are there any injured people on the other sh…ship? I was thinking m…maybe they might need s…some medical help.”

“There doesn’t seem to be anyone over there. Xander has called out a few times but he’s had no response. However, if they have been hurt badly enough they may not be able to respond. If you do find anyone let one of the crew know so we can give any help.” Before she left the galley, Buffy turned back to the blonde girl, “and Tara, it’s just Buffy.” She said with a warm smile before returning up top to prepare her team.
*****************************************************
“I don’ care Cap’n, we aint goin on that ship.”

“Are you trying to mutiny Alex?” Willow was pissed, and not in her favourite, had too much ale, pissed. She had set about organising her group to take across to the strange new ship and plunder it, only there had been a little setback.

“No Cap’n,” Alex replied in all sincerity. “But…that ship came outta nowhere. Now ya can’t be tellin’ me that’s natural. It’s a ghost ship, that’s what it be and none of us are setting foot on it.”

Willow just groaned aloud, placed her head in her hand and shook it slightly, unable to believe what she was hearing from one of her bravest crewmembers. That she was afraid of ghosts.

“Hey Will, having fun?” Buffy asked cheerfully as she approached her friend.

“We aint goin over to that ship Buffy, it’s a ghost ship and no good ever came of no one who set foot on one.” Alex appeared to have taken it on herself to be the spokesperson for the group of eleven Slayerettes who refused to go aboard the ship that had materialized without warning in front of them.

“I know a story about someone who went on a ghost ship once,” Christina, one of the older hands on the pirate ship now spoke up. “It was this bloke from the village I lived and they called him ‘Owd Barnabus’. He was an old sea dog and he always used to boast that when he was younger he’d been on a ghost ship and stolen a gold coin from it. Everyone else told him to throw it back in the sea or the curse of the ghost ship would catch up wi’ him and he’d die a horrible death.”

“So what happened to him?” Buffy asked.

“He never paid a lick o’ notice ta anyone else and kept that coin all his life. And then one day they found him dead just like they said they would.”

“How old was he?” asked Alex, having been drawn in by this curious tale.

“He was eighty two.”

“He was eighty two when he died?” This came from Willow, in a strangely calm voice.

“AyeCap’n, Barnabus said he was twenty one when he went ta sea” Christina replied in all innocence.

Buffy held her hand up to her face to hide her snigger, which only became more pronounced when Willow glowered at her.

Again Willow's hand met her head which she shook in despair.

God’s, I’m cursed with the biggest idiot crew ever.

“Just get over there and salvage what ever you can and see if anyone needs any help,” the Captain finally bawled out before stomping off muttering to herself.
**********************************************************
Dawn, Tara and Simone emerged from the shaded area below decks, back out into the tropical heat. As they looked to the for’ard of the Slayer, they could see that a kind of basic wooden bridge had been set up by Xander using wooden planking usually used for repairs when the pirate vessel had been in battles.

They noticed that some of the crew had already gone over to the other ship and were already scavenging it for anything they could find that may be either useful or valuable.

Tara eyed the bridge with more than a little trepidation. Her near fatal fall from before had placed a certain amount of fear within her, making her unsure as to whether she could cross the crude bridge alone. Dawn noticed the hesitation in Tara’s face and rolled her eyes as she realized that she was going to have to help the other girl to cross the bridge. A small smirk crossed her face as the image of Tara tumbling from the bridge and into the ocean entered her mind.

“W…what’s the joke D…Dawn?”

She turned to see Tara observing her with interest.

“Nothing, just a private joke,” Dawn replied a little too quickly for Tara’s liking but she let it drop. As the trio approached rudimentary bridge, Tara noticed Katarina about to strip off so she could dive into the sea and check how bad the damage was below water level. The blonde couldn’t help but give a gasp at the other girls lean olive skinned body and tempting breasts as Kat removed her top completely and dropped it to the deck beside her black leather, thigh length boots.

“D…Dawn, Simone, could you g…go ahead. I just n…need to speak to Katarina a mo…moment.” The appointed guards gave a quick nod in agreement and continued walking towards the roughly built bridge.

“K…Kat,” the other woman looked up in surprise as she found Tara in front of her.

“Aye, are ya a’right there Tara?”

“Y…yes, I just wanted to thank you for rescuing me earlier. If you hadn’t been there I would have died so thank you so much, it really means a lot to me.”

“Aah, don’ worry about it lass.” Kat gave a friendly grin as she replied. “It’s the Slayerette way ta save one of their own in danger.” She gave an involuntary shudder as Tara took Kat’s hands in her own. Though the blonde girl’s hands were soft and gentle, for some reason they felt wrong to the tough Slayerette. It wasn’t anything she could easily explain, all she could say about it was they just felt wrong.

“Still, th…thank you for saving me.” Tara then gave a small smile to the rough pirate before crossing the deck to the crude bridge, which she crossed warily with some aid from Simone. As she did, the grin faded from Kat’s face and her eyes narrowed as Tara crossed successfully to the other ship, then Kat dived over the side of the Slayer and into the ocean depths to check the damage between the ships.

Rick,

Woohoo! Update!!! :pinky :banana :banana :bounce :pinky :party :banana :banana :bounce :pinky :party :eatme :eatme

Sharp writing:
Quote:
“No, it is too early, she must achieve her destiny,” he hissed with the unsuppressed fury of one who has planned for centuries.

AND

Quote:
“As I promised you my holy queen, the one is coming. The one who will awake you from your slumber.”
He dared glance up but for a second at the object before dropping his head back to the floor, this time out of fear.

Fine job of establishing fear. First, the sorcerer has already been set up as being incredibly evil and powerful; he’s watching and clearly knows more than anyone else. THEN you show him afraid of the Goddess he serves. Nice work ramping up the tension!

Tara’s rescue was dramatic. Her fear comes through plainly and it touched me. Then Shanna and Kate come across as genuinely kind and decent which adds another layer of complexity to Kat’s character and helps explain her ability to find followers.

Quote:

This was very touching, Tara’s fear and finding comfort in Willow’s arms. Willow’s gentle reassurance and the mention of finding someone to love after years of loneliness. Sweet . . .

And then a mysterious figure stealing maps from Willow’s cabin . . . more trouble and suspense! Love it!

Quote:

Sweet young love with your lovely comic touch – beautiful combination!!! :lmao :love :lmao

Interesting that Simone noticed Tara and Tara noticed Kat . . . definitely happens with a small number and close quarters!

Loved the superstitious sailors bit and the cross over to the other ship.

Quote:
“Still, th…thank you for saving me.” Tara then gave a small smile to the rough pirate before crossing the deck to the crude bridge, which she crossed warily with some aid from Simone. As she did, the grin faded from Kat’s face and her eyes narrowed as Tara crossed successfully to the other ship

LOVELY bit previously where Tara’s hands feel wrong inside Kat’s, no doubt a magical reference (thought Kat might be growing a conscience then ruled that out a few paragraphs later!) Then the clear tension between Tara’s grateful kindness to someone clearly identified as wishing her ill. More sharp writing that notches up the suspense.

Whew!!! You did it again, so keep writing!!! :kgeek :kgeek :kgeek

Hey there.

I've been lurking around your fic for a while and I thought I'd finally drop you a line to let you know how much I'm loving it! It's great to see some swashbuckling action with the girls and the rest of the gang. I love, love, love the idea of Willow and Tara as pirates. You really seem to have the dialogue and speech down. It really adds to the feel of this world.

I'm completely intrigued about where you are taking Tara, with her magic and what she is going to have to use it for. Dawn is really starting to piss me off. I get that she wants to prove herself and see some action and adventure, but what is her problem?? Especially with Tara.

At this point I'm not sure what to feel threatened by most, this mysterious 'He' that has been watching Tara and the crew through his pool, His Queen, or the mutineers. These unknown threats from all sides makes for interesting reading. I agree with Ariel, nice job building the tension!

I was very glad that Tara was ok, even with her being saved by our mysterious magic man. I'm really enjoying Willow and Tara's growing connection to one another and very impatient to see them get all snuggly.

Anyway, can't wait to see where you take this. Eagerly awaiting the next update!

Laura.

Phew! That was definitely too close of a call for Tara! :thud Hmm, I wonder which one of the mutinous crew is responsible for pushing our beloved gallery cook. :hmm I'm sure whom ever it is is gonna wish they'd never been born once Willow finds out. :-p

A subtle move, but a move none the less. Glad to see they're on the right track!

Sounds perfect to me!

Ok then, one of them needs to make a move before this becomes, "NeverPIRATEland! LOL :rofl :lmao

Quote:
Dawn watched all this from the side of the galley where she stood leaning against the wall, arms folded across her chest, the look on her face revealing her distaste for the job she had been given. This wasn’t a job she had wanted.
She should just be happy that her ass isn't in a sling right about now, rather than bitching about her duties. :gnome

Really nice chapter! I think you are doing an excellent job capturing the whole experience. Writing a period piece is extremely tough, but you are nailing it! :bow :clap

Looking forward to some :wtkiss hopefully coming soon!!

ARIEL Awesome on your getting dibs. Yep, creepy guy is still there, still watching and definitely has plans for Tara.
Kat has a confidence and charisma that helps her attract followers, remember how easily she pulled Dawn into her scheme.

Tara trusts Willow above all others on the ship because she helped Tara escape her life of drudgery, so is automatically the first one she turns to. Willow sees Tara as the end to her loneliness. Willow’s been a one-night-stand gal, loving and leaving in every port. With Tara, she believes she can be a one woman girl again.

Kat growing a conscience :laugh

I think it’s really just the fact that Tara is such a good hearted person, who harbours no ill will to anyone, not even Dawn, that Kat can sense and which feels weird to her.

LAURA Hey there, it’s always good to hear from fans of my fic and I’m glad you’ve been enjoying it so far.
The crew are going to find out very soon about Tara’s powers.

Dawn is actually a good kid at heart, but is tired of being treated like a child. Dawn doesn’t especially hate or dislike Tara it’s the job. Tara is the ships cook and Dawn, being naïve, doesn’t see that as important. What she doesn’t realise is that no one else on the ship can cook; certainly not Willow or Buffy, but things will ease between these two in the next couple of chapters.

Yup, Willow has her work cut out for her in this adventure. What makes it more dangerous is that both parties are hidden, one of them right under Willow’s own nose. There will be asses kicked over this.

I will always ensure that Tara is ok, she’s just too cute and lovable for me to want to inflict serious harm on her, and rest assured Laura, snuggles are on their way.

Finey McFine AKA Shelby Don’t worry Shel, there’s going to be some W/T :wtkiss soon. As to Dawn she made a promise to Willow and so far is keeping that promise, but I’m gonna be putting Dawn through some serious shit soon. As for her reactions to Tara, see the reply I gave to Laura.

All feedback is read over and again and very much appreciated so please send in all you can.

The Ghost Ship b)
**********************************************
No one recognized the type of ship. It was incredibly old in design; the writing on the side was ancient and unknowable. Tara, however, was able to decipher the name as Angelus. As soon as she heard the name in her mind, Tara felt an echo of an ancient evil that frightened her.
She hesitated for a moment, feeling her gut tighten itself into a knot, then she stepped down onto the mouldy, decaying deck and felt an ice-cold shock against her bare feet. She looked sharply to see Simone and Dawn just ahead of her. A sigh of relief froze in her lungs as she saw the sun shining on the Slayer while the Angelus was dark. It was as if it were winter aboard the ghost ship. What added to eeriness was the fact that while the distance between the ships was a mere two feet and high in the sky the sun still beat down mercilessly yet it felt incredibly gloomy and overcast, as if it were about to rain, even though the skies were bright blue.

Dawn and Simone didn’t notice the variation in temperature as much, though goose pimples were raised on their arms due to the extreme change in conditions. For Tara, cold was nothing new to her, after years of sleeping in the sewers below her father’s inn she had grown used to it. However, this extreme chilliness was different. She couldn’t say why, but she knew deep down that this cold was unnatural.
It gave her an uneasy feeling.

The three observed the deck of the merchant ship, all the time heading towards the steps that would lead down below decks. They passed other girls who, under Willow and Buffy’s careful watchfulness, were busy getting coils of rope, spare planks and any other items they thought might be useful aboard the Slayer.

The trio looked about themselves constantly as the eerie creaking of the ship, sinister shadows that appeared and the creepy flapping of the tattered and torn sails added power to the imaginations of the girls, making them even more afraid though Dawn and Simone tried not to show their fear.

There was a sense of rottenness about the whole ship. It was in a complete state of disrepair, the ropes were badly frayed at the ends while the sails were ragged with huge gaping holes in them, yet despite this handicap, the sails were still full, as if a wind were blowing.

As they came to the steps that led to the darkened area below decks, Tara thought she heard something. It wasn’t much, just the faintest of faint noises, but it was enough to make her stop and look deep into the forbidding gloomy darkness of the ships lower area. It was as if she could penetrate the inky black depths with just her eyes and mere willpower alone.

Dawn glanced over at her charge with a contemptuous look on her face.

This is bollocks, having to look after blondie, I’m worth more than this. Why can’t Willow see what Kat sees? However, Dawn wisely kept her feelings of disdain to herself.

“What is it?” Simone asked noticing the way Tara was just standing and looking down into the mire of blackness that represented the below decks area of the Angelus. In reply, the blonde merely put a finger to her lips and made no noise, no other movement than that.

Dawn beckoned her lover over and Simone skirted round the back of Tara to be with her.

“We’ll have to get some torches to light our way,” the brunette said to Simone.

“What is it you think she can see? Do you think there’s something waiting for us down there?” Simone asked, with great apprehension. Like most of the crew aboard the Slayer, she was very superstitious. She glanced at her arms, covered in tattooed prayers to Torata, the god of the oceans, and felt only slightly reassured.

“I dunno Simone but the quicker we get down there and find any food the quicker we can be alone together.” She slid her hand softly across the sandy haired girl’s arm, delighting in its smoothness and the tingles that went through her upon this simple interaction.

“And I have something really important that I want to tell you,” Dawn said excitedly to her friend.

“Can’t you tell me now?” Simone was now equally excited and didn’t like the idea of having to wait for this news.

“No, blon…Tara might go runnin’ an’ tell the Cap’n if she hears us.” Dawn quickly amended her words when Simone raised an eyebrow at her intended insult for Tara. “Later, when we have a chance to be alone I’ll tell you,” and she placed a short sweet kiss on her lover’s lips before looking for some torches to light their way.
************************************************
Somewhere deep below the decks of the Angelus something awoke.

Something dark.

Something dangerous.

Something hungry.
******************************************
Back on the Slayer, Xander was finally getting a report on what was wrong.

“Aye, it looks as if the spike’s gone got itself trapped under the for’ard section of tha’ ship,” a now dressed Kat reported.

Xander frowned at this. Even though the spike which protruded just below the water level from the for’ard was usually used to attack and sink other vessels, being attached to a ghost ship was not a good idea. When the Angelus decided to slip back into the ether it could well take the Slayer and its crew along with it. If that happened there would be no way back for any of them. It would be a fate worse than death.

“There be no way we can get free by pulling back?”

“Nope, only way is ta cut away with axes or saws.”

“Why are these things ever easy,” Xander sighed, “A’right Kat get the best divers t’gether and have em cut us out. The Cap’n aint gonna like it if we’re still here any longer.”

“Right y’are Mister Xander.” Kat went to organise a few girls leaving Xander to gaze at the strange ship that had appeared out of the ether. He looked at it a long time before giving an involuntary shiver and turning away to any tasks that needed doing aboard Slayer.
*************************************************
Below decks, the Angelus was vastly different to the Slayer. The corridors weren’t as wide or as well lit and they were a lot smaller than the seemingly endless corridors of the Slayer.

The two young Slayerettes each held a torch as they went in search of the galley, Dawn in the lead and Simone at the end with Tara between the two.

There was an eerie atmosphere to the ship, the darkness and silence adding to the sinister atmosphere. Tara was constantly looking about her, she felt as if eyes were watching her but she couldn’t define from exactly where. It was almost as if the ship itself were watching her.
All around was the pungent odour of death and decay, while here and there were the dark brown smears of what could have only been blood painted upon the wood. To a magic sensitive like Tara, the creepiness of the ship’s interior was all the more pervasive. A shiver ran up her back and she wrapped her arms tight around herself, as if to ward off the chilly cold that seemed to pollute the Angelus. Even the wooden decks felt like ice despite the humid sun beating down.

Shadows, as insubstantial as smoke, appeared to move all around the three young explorers, making all three nervous. As they proceeded, both the junior Slayerettes had their swords drawn, ready for the first sign of danger. A smell of burning meat coming from a little way down the corridor overpowered the stuffy, nauseating odour and the trio headed towards it, discovering the smell emanated from the galley.

The door was open wide and Dawn thrust her torch deep into it galley. Despite the brightness of the torch, it barely seemed to make an impression to the omnipresent gloom within. The corners seemed to remain in darkness, as if the room itself were determined that no amount of torchlight would alleviate the gloom therein and reveal its secrets. Whilst inwardly Dawn shuddered, outwardly she acted as if all were perfectly fine. An act of bravado she did not really feel.

Not seeing anything Dawn took a tentative step into the room waving the torch around to illuminate all areas of the galley.
As she turned to beckon Simone and Tara in she missed the hand formed entirely of shadow reaching out for her only for it to retract as soon as she turned back into the galley.

The galley was slightly larger than that aboard the Slayer, though still laid out the same. A door to the side of the entrance gave access to a well-stocked storeroom. This would have made it easier for the cook of the Angelus to get whatever foodstuffs they needed for the meals they were going to prepare.

The galley itself was completely deserted but not spotless. Whoever had been in there last had been in the middle of preparing an applesauce and in a large pan atop a cooking surface were a set of pork steaks now burned so badly that at the slightest, gentlest touch they would fall apart in a flurry of ashes.

Tara unfastened a window that opened out on the far side of the ship, giving a view of nothing but the ocean with its currents and eddies. She then went to retrieve the pan to throw it out only for the bottom and contents of the pan to fall on to the cooking surface creating a small dust cloud in their wake and leaving a jagged edged hole in the bottom of the pan.
Well, that was unexpected, she considered wryly. Then she straightened her shoulders, determined to play past her fear.

“Alright Dawn, Simone, lets see what we can find that we can take back to the Slayer with us. The quicker we get that done, the sooner we can return and have a really good nosy in the other cabins,” she said with a quick smile.

It didn’t take long before they started to salvage fruit stored in wooden tubs from the storeroom. At least a half tub of oranges and another half tub with apples. Several braces of hares and pheasants hung from hooks set in the ceiling.

Dawn and Simone set to carrying the two tubs of fruit between them, getting them up to the upper deck and leaving them there for their shipmates to take across to the Slayer. When they returned, they discovered that Tara had gotten down the meat by standing on a chair. They lay there, six lots of hares and six of pheasants on the table, the meat looking incredibly fresh in the dim light from the torches.

“C…come on, if we get this meat back to the Slayer we can explore a little.” To Dawn’s ears the excitement in Tara’s voice sounded a little strained, still the chance to investigate this strange ship which turned up out of nowhere seemed a hell a lot more interesting to the girl than making sure she was peeling the potatoes properly. And if they were really lucky perhaps she and Simone could get a little alone time together.

The three young women each took four of the lots of meat and proceeded to carry the meat to the upper decks where they crossed back to Willow’s ship.

After securing the meat and fruit safely in the stores, they then returned to the Angelus and checked out the galley more thoroughly this time.

Opening a cupboard, Simone saw several tins. Reaching one down labelled biscuits, she unfastened it and gave a sharp gasp. Tara and Dawn came over to their friend and were shocked to see that it was full of maggots. Both Tara and Simone felt their stomachs tying themselves up in tight knots as Dawn plunged her torch into the squelching morass of small, white squirming insects as the writhed around each other before melting under the hot blaze from Dawn’s torch.

The three took several steps back from the burning tin, each of them trying not to vomit over the others.

Finally the fire burnt itself out, Simone was about to go and look at the remains when Dawn raised her arm, effectively blocking her path. Simone looked up at Dawn in surprise but the other girl just shook her head very slightly.

“Umm yes well thank you for that Dawn,” Tara said, her face whiter than snow. Then she looked at the two younger girls whose eyes had met longingly. Tara felt warmed by their happiness and offered a small smile. “D… do you two want to take a look at o…one of the other rooms now?”

“What about you. Cap’n said we have to stay wi’ you at all times,” Dawn said matter-of-factly.

“W…well, let’s l…look at the c…cabins, that way I can be in one and you can be in a…another across the way. I’m sure you don’t want to s…spend all your time with me.”

The two Slayerettes looked at each other as if in telepathic communication before nodding their heads in unison.

“A’right, but at the first sign of trouble you call for us ok?”

“Y…yes Dawn, I’ll scream if I need you,” Tara replied with a wry smile.

They swiftly found some cabins to explore and, after handing one of the torches to Tara, she took one while Dawn and Simone took the other.
**************************************************
Dawn shone the torch into the cabin but saw nothing unusual there. As the Angelus didn’t have the benefits of supernaturally expanded corridors like the Slayer, the cabin was a little more cramped with a small bed covered in a fleece coverlet, a chest under it for personal goods, a cupboard for clothes and a small writing desk.

Dawn sat on the bed and indicated for Simone to sit beside her. She did so and waited expectantly for her friend to say what was on her mind.

Dawn took Simone’s hands in her own, loving the warmth she felt there. She began to stroke the other girl’s fingers with her thumb, feeling a little thrill when she saw a slight crimson flush start to cover Simone’s cheeks.

“You said you had something to tell me.” Simone looked expectantly at her friend waiting for her reply.
Dawn hesitated a moment before starting

“Simone, I’ve been offered a position on another ship at the end of this voyage.”

“A position?” Simone queried, her face wrinkled with confusion.

“Aye, one of the girls has decided to get her own ship and she has asked me to join her. She’s said I’m going to be first mate”

“Oh, I’m er…I’m very happy for you.” Despite what she had said, Simone didn’t sound happy at all, and the flush faded from her cheeks. Dawn, however, didn’t appear to have noticed the hesitation in her friend’s voice as she continued.

“So anyway, I asked the captain, not Willow, the other captain, if I could take a friend along as well and she said yes, and I want you to come.” Joy danced across the girl’s features as she revealed her plans to Simone.

“So who is it then that’s offered you this position?”

“It’s Katarina. She says it’s time for her to follow her dream and become her own captain, with her own ship and crew.”

“Oh.” This time the sadness in that single solitary word was not lost on Dawn and concern overcame her feeling of happiness. She could see that something troubled Simone deeply. Her priority now was to soothe away that fear and worry. Everything else was of secondary importance

“Simone, honey what is it, what’s wrong?”

Simone looked at her lover and hesitated over what to say. She knew where she wanted to be certainly but would it be right, to let down one person in favour of another? She saw Dawn looking at her with concern in her eyes and just didn’t know what to say. Or rather, she did know what to say, she just didn’t know how to say it.

“Dawn, I…I can’t go with you.”

To say Dawn was shocked would be to underestimate how she felt. Her jaw dropped faster than a loose anchor, her ears felt strange, as if she hadn’t heard Simone’s words right.

“But why not, we could be together for always?” Dawn eventually asked, after intelligence had reasserted itself into her brain.

“I owe so much to Captain Willow. She’s the one who saw me that night in the whorehouse with my father and saw that I was being abused and the scars on my back. Willow rescued me by giving him gold and she took me in two years ago. She’s been so good to me making sure I was well cared for and fed by Giles and the others. I can’t go and leave her like that, it would be a betrayal and I always promised myself that I would never do that, not to the Captain.”

Though she thought it would be hard to get out, Simone was surprised by how easy it was to tell Dawn.

For her part, Dawn was slightly startled by Simone’s confession and found herself staring at the dust-covered planking that formed the floor of the cabin.

Eventually Dawn raised her head and looked hard at Simone who was beginning to fear the worst.

“Well, If you can’t come with me then I guess I’m just going to have to stay on the Slayer with you,” Dawn said with a small grin. “I’ll tell Kat later that I won’t be going with her.”

Simone immediately brightened at this, the smile making her face glow as if it were a miniature sun, and she wrapped her arms round Dawn in a crushing hug.

“Gods, I love you so much Dawn,” Simone squealed with joy.

“I love you as well,” Dawn gasped out, “but could you let me go, I think you’re breaking my ribs.”

“Oh, sorry,” Simone gave a sheepish grin in reply as she released her grip on the other girl.

The two just sat there on the bed gazing at each other with stupid smiles on their faces.

“Simone, get yer backside up top. We need a hand gettin’ stuff over ta Slayer,” Willow’s roaring voice echoed down into the bowels of the mysterious ship with a noise that could waken the dead from their eternal sleep.

“Dawn,” the pirate continued in that same resounding, bellow. “Ya stay wi’ Tara and don’t leave her fer nuffin’ ya hear me.”

“Aye Cap’n,” the lovers said at the same time. They stopped and looked at each other before giggling.

“Simone, I is waitin’,” Willow called again and the girl in question rolled her eyes.

“Later hon,” she said to Dawn before kissing her deeply.

“Later beautiful,” came the reply along with a wink and Simone set off in search of Willow.

*******************************************************
In the cabin next door Tara was busy scavenging the closets looking for some new dresses as she wasn’t sure how much longer her own would last before it was little more than a strip of ribbon. Especially at the rate it was being used for makeshift bandages. Tara was pretty sure though, that a lot of the crewmembers wouldn’t mind that at all considering the salacious looks she got from them.

This gave her two very different feelings. Both very distinct but so very different. One was a feeling of beauty, something that was all but alien to the blonde after being told so much of her life how ugly she was. Now to find some crewmembers looking at her the same way she had spent so many times looking at other girls she had found pleasing to her eye, that someone else may consider her attractive. To Tara this was a great revelation.

The other feeling was one of fear, fear of the unknown. Tara was afraid that one night someone might sneak into the galley where she slept in a hammock and attempt to take advantage of her. Whilst it was true that she longed to feel the touch of other women, or at least of one woman in particular, she wanted it to be on her terms. Tara didn’t want to be forced into a situation where someone would force her to do something she didn’t want.

She was musing on these two feelings when she felt it. It was something just at the edge of her senses. It wasn’t a ‘something’ she could put a name to, but she could sense that it was wrong. That it was evil.
Hurriedly picking out two cotton dresses, Tara left the cabin and went to the one opposite.

“D…D…Dawn, we need to go now.” There was an urgency in her voice that quickly bought the younger girl to the cabin door.

“Tara, what is it?” Dawn could tell there was something wrong with the galley cook from the amount of time they had spent together. She understood that there seemed to be little that could seriously unnerve the blonde.

“T…there’s something wr…wrong. We have to go, now, where’s Simone?”

“She’s already left, Willow called for her a while back to help out. What is it that’s wrong?”

Tara held Dawn’s gaze with her own

“There is something aboard this ship, it is evil, it is dangerous and it will kill us. We have to leave now!”

The seriousness in Tara’s voice and eyes brooked no argument and Dawn quickly drew her sword and grabbed her torch from within the sconce in the cabin. Then the two of them set off down the passage, hoping to escape the ghost ship.
********************************************************
The dark thing was stalking the ship, stalking the people who had dared invade its sanctuary, preparing to devour their minds then leave them mindless idiots, rotting in the bowels of this ghost ship. After it vanished once more into the ether, it would then dispose of the crew by consuming their bodies at its leisure. Just as it had with crews throughout innumerable centuries, just as it had the original crew 1000 years previously. There was one, however, that it sensed had power, great power. The roiling mist and darkness flowed in search of its prey, taking great delight at the thought of consuming this one and absorbing its power.
*****************************************************
Dawn and Tara quickly made their way down the corridor constantly looking behind them for some sign of pursuit. By what they knew not, only that it could destroy them.

The two girls neared the end of the corridor, grateful as the light of the day came into view from the hatchway. A strange mist suddenly formed before them. It was the same shade of putrescent green as had almost enveloped the Slayer earlier that day.

“Dawnie, I need you to stay behind me.” Tara wasn’t sure what it was but she could sense it was dangerous and the last thing she wanted was for her bodyguard to get hurt.

“I got the sword, you get behind me,” the other girl retorted as she brandished the weapon in question.

“No Dawn, whatever that…mist is, it can’t be harmed by your sword.”

Dawn rolled her eyes, in the belief that the blonde was exaggerating the threat posed by the eerie, eldritch vapour.

“Tara, it’s just a mist, it can’t cause anymore harm to us than a drop of water.”

With those words, Dawn swung her sword through the mist. Immediately the sharp tang of acid melting through metal hung in the air. Bubbles of liquid steel formed up around the girl’s blade, melting through the steel as an oar would cut through water until the end dropped off with a metallic thud to the floor. Dawn’s eyes went wide and her mouth formed a small ‘O’ shape.
She turned to Tara, shock equally clear on the blonde girl’s face.

“I…I think we need a plan B Dawn.”

“So what d’ya suggest.”

“I need you to get behind me Dawn.”

“Willow told me to…”

“I kn…know what the Captain said Dawn, but I n…need you to get behind me.”

“Fine, but if ya get into any trouble I’m pulling you behind me.”

Dawn stepped behind Tara and waited for the blonde to make her move. Tara looked carefully at the mist before taking a step forward, then another before attempting to pass through the green cloud barring hers and Dawn’s path.

As soon as Tara stepped into the mist she felt as if her entire body was standing in a huge bush of nettles. The sting was excruciating and instantly bought tears to her eyes. The pain was such that Tara couldn’t move out of the green haze.

Dawn too could see this and realised there was only one course of action she could take. She swiftly took a step toward the mist and reached a hand into the green vapour toward Tara. Her hand stung to all the hells but Dawn didn’t pull back. Still she reached until her own hand was touching Tara’s then she got a firm hold of the blonde’s arm and pulled.

A few seconds later Tara found herself safely by the younger girl’s side. Her face, hands, arms and calves were a nasty shade of red and inflamed by a burning sting.

“Tara…Tara are you alright?” The question genuinely surprised Dawn as she hadn’t thought highly of the ship’s cook before, but now she was really worried for her.

Tara couldn’t reply, the agony was such it took all her energy to breathe. It came out in shuddering gasps as she tried to recover from the throbbing hurt caused by the mist.

“Dawn, I need you to find a back way out of here. There must be another exit. I need you to go there and find the Captain. She’ll be able to help.”

“But the Cap’n said not to leave you.”

“I know but it’s going to be alright, just as long as you go and bring her here.”

Dawn stood there, torn in her desire to follow both Willow’s orders and those that Tara gave her. Finally realising that she wouldn’t be any use to Tara standing there, Dawn set off back down the corridor, back where the galley was, in the hope she could find a way out, get back on deck, and find help.

Once Tara was sure that Dawn was far enough away, she turned to face the green mist.

“It’s just you and me now,” her voice was calm and controlled. The stinging had reduced to a mild throb, the redness having now faded. “And if you think I'll let you harm either me or my friends, you really do not know me at all.” With that she raised her hands, one in front of the other, palms outwards and a pale blue/white light started to glow around them.
****************************************************
Dawn made it to the far end of the corridor, looking back once to see a strange light emanating from where she had left Tara.
The end of the corridor itself was a wall of solid wooden planking and a quick inspection revealed there was no exit from there. Dawn quickly tried the cabins but they were all built solidly, made to last over long sea voyages over many years.
The galley however was different. The ceiling was blackened and scorched and appeared to be damaged enough that a good hammering would bring it down and provide access to the upper deck.

Dawn looked around and quickly found a heavy meat cleaver. Dragging a stool into place Dawn clambered onto it and started to hack at the burnt wood. It wasn’t long before she started to see daylight glimmering down from above and redoubled her efforts. Soon she had a made a large enough hole to climb out of the galley.

Dropping the cleaver, the young girl stretched and, taking a hold of the hacked away area hauled herself out of the galley and up on the deck. She quickly reacquainted herself with the brilliant warmth of the sunshine. it was as if the former darkness had fled somewhere where only shadows dwelt. After adjusting her eyes to the bright light, Dawn set off in search of her Captain.
*********************************************************
Below decks, a battle was taking place between Tara and the weird mist. It was firing out a blast of eerie, mystical green energy toward the girl, which she deflected harmlessly away from her by creating a shield of pure white light. Tara then responded by wielding her blue/white light as if it were a blade, slashing through the eldritch haze. The mist then quickly reformed but an unearthly, guttural wailing and moaning was heard from the thing.

Suddenly it lashed out with a black tendril of writhing mist and Tara felt an icy numbness throughout her body. She stood for an instant, locked in its paralyzing power. She was in rapport with the thing and saw it devouring her friends Dawn, Simone and Willow. She jerked backwards finding a strength she didn’t know she had.

The battle was fairly simple, the magic unsophisticated but it called for strength. Tara fought on, her forehead and arms were damp with perspiration, her face was grim and resolute. She would not let this creature win and harm her friends and she knew that killing her would delay it long enough for her friends to escape. Life had recently become very sweet to her but she gritted her teeth and knew that she could sacrifice her own life if it meant saving her friends.
*********************************************************
“Willow, Willow,” the Captain looked up as Dawn came running up to her.

“It’s ‘Captain’! And what the hell are ya doin’ here? I told ya ta stay wi’ Tara din’t I?”

“I know Willow but she sent me to get you. I think she’s in danger.”

For the barest instant Willow looked Dawn straight in the eye and saw nothing but fear and concern there. Then the pirate Captain snapped into action

“Buffy, Simone, yer both wi’ me, an’ Dawn lead the way”
Dawn just nodded, then spun around and raced back to the hole she had hacked through the deck with the others right behind her.
******************************************************

The four went to the hole Dawn had hacked away to get on deck. It was a squeeze for Buffy getting through the hole, but with Willow, Dawn and Simone tugging on her legs she fell with a crash to the galley floor, getting amused looks from the others.
Dawn led them cautiously from the galley, the other three had their swords drawn and, as they entered the corridor, all the girls could see the bright light emanating from Tara down at the entrance. Determined to give whatever support their friend needed they ran to where the battle was raging.

By now, Tara was just projecting the light toward the green mist. The bright light glowing from the blonde’s hands had grown to a near blinding brilliance forcing the others to shield their eyes. Whatever it was Tara was doing with the light, however, it appeared to be working as the mysterious fog was dissipating and fading away. It was clear to anyone who could see through the light that what Tara was doing was also causing a great strain on her. Her face, neck and arms were drenched in sweat. She seemed to be having difficulty breathing as if she were swallowing in as much air as she could to fill her lungs. Then she wobbled a little, not much but enough for Simone to put her arm out to help steady her, though she couldn’t say if Tara had noticed or not.

Finally the mist was gone and as the last remnants of it faded to nothingness so did the light from Tara’s hands start to dim in its brightness. Slowly the shaft of light shrank in both size and luminescence so that Dawn, Simone, Buffy and Willow could finally see though if they blinked they had visions of yellow spots before their eyes. The blonde’s breathing seemed to be getting better too as she was needing to take in less breaths to breathe normally. Then the light was gone and Tara turned to the other four a weary smile on her face only for her eyes to roll back in her head a moment later and she collapsed heavily to the floor.

“Tara,” cried Dawn…

DIBS!!! <=an homage to the eldritch green of evilness!

Rick,

Oy, Mate! You’ve done it again! :bounce :banana :eatme :banana :bounce :banana :eatme :banana :bounce :banana :eatme :banana :bounce

Then the silliness and sweetness of Simone and Dawn:
Quote:
Simone immediately brightened at this, the smile making her face glow as if it were a miniature sun, and she wrapped her arms round Dawn in a crushing hug.

“Gods, I love you so much Dawn,” Simone squealed with joy.

“I love you as well,” Dawn gasped out, “but could you let me go, I think you’re breaking my ribs.”

“Oh, sorry,” Simone gave a sheepish grin in reply as she released her grip on the other girl.

The two just sat there on the bed gazing at each other with stupid smiles on their faces.
:laugh

Then this mood-breaker follows immediately:
Quote:
“Simone, get yer backside up top. We need a hand gettin’ stuff over ta Slayer,” Willow’s roaring voice echoed down into the bowels of the mysterious ship with a noise that could waken the dead from their eternal sleep.

:rofl :laugh :lmao :rofl - Brilliant!

You're writing style is great, really brings me back to pulp fiction - the real stuff - not John Travolta's comeback movie! Seriously, the battles, the evil, the adventure plus great characters that we are totally into!

Then the suspense builds into the search, the battle, and finally that cliff-hanger ending! Old-style suspense – love it!

So hey, how about some action! Like :love and :wtkiss action!

Keep writing! :kgeek :kgeek :kgeek

Hiya Rick!

Great update! You've really captured the ultimate mindset of a teenager in the petulant Dawn. One minute she is talking about leaving The Slayer for a 'better' opportunity and the next she's staying. ...I'm going, will you go? No. Oh, well then ok, I'll stay. LOL She doesn't really understand the true essence of loyalty because she's never had any thing all that bad happen to her or been in a position of lost hope. I mean, maybe she does need to be trapped in a whore house or be made to shlep in a tavern and sleep in a sewer.

Quote:
Really great job setting the scene with the Angelus. Your detailed description of the ship really set up the overall feeling of gloom and doom.

Big yay for Tara fighting off the creepy mist! I'm sure she'll be fine and that Captain Willow will be more than happy to nurse her back to health! Can't wait for that!!! :blush

Ariel Ahoy there first mate Ariel, with Dawn and Simone I wanted to capture that moment we’ve all endured when you’re in your room making out with your girl or boy friend when your parents suddenly yell that dinners ready. Mucho embarrassment.
Willow and Tara lovin is on its way in this chapter, I promise :wtkiss

little.hesperides Hi hesperides, good to know you’re enjoying the story, there’s still plenty of adventure, drama and some Willow/Tara sweetness on the way.

Finey_McFine Dawn essentially just wants to be with Simone but because Simone believes she owes a debt to Willow, Dawn is willing to give up what she thinks is a better position with Kat and stay on the Slayer with the girl she loves. You are absolutely bang on about Dawn never having suffered as much as Tara or Simone but remember neither has Buffy, in a few chapters though I’m going to give some background on these two and Xander

Chapter 12
About Time
***************************************************

The light was gone and Tara turned to the other four a weary smile on her face only for her eyes to roll back in her head a moment later and she collapsed heavily to the floor.
“Tara,” cried Dawn…

*************************************************

“Get her to my cabin!” shouted Willow.

Buffy and Dawn grabbed hold of the opposite ends of Tara’s body. The skin felt icy cold to the touch, so cold in fact, that Dawn could have sworn she saw frost on them, but quickly put the fanciful notion out of her mind.

As her sister lifted up Tara’s ankles Buffy carefully raised the blonde girls head. Once they checked all was secure, they started heading back to the deck of the Angelus, following Willow.
**************************************************
It wasn’t long before Willow, Buffy and Dawn were back aboard Slayer and were placing the still unconscious Tara in Willow’s bed.
“You two go make yerselves useful on deck, I’ll stay here, wi’ Tara make sure she’s a’right.”

“Aye Cap’n,” Dawn and Simone said simultaneously and, after a quick glance and smirk at having spoken in unison, the two girls went to see what they could do.

Willow put her calloused hand on Tara’s forehead. It felt cold and clammy to the touch. She tested for the pulse on the wrist, it was weak but it was there. For a long moment, Willow just stared at the beautiful, young blonde girl lying on her bed. Tara looked so peaceful in her state of repose.

Finally breaking free from the enchanting image before her she got a bowl and poured some water into it from her bedside jug before retrieving a shirt from the chest under the bed. Willow tore the sheet into strips and placed one of them into the water until it was thoroughly soaked through. She then wrung it out and placed proceeded to wipe over Tara’s face before taking another strip, soaking it and placing it gently on Tara’s forehead.

Willow sat by the bedside, a fretful look on her face and sadness in her eyes. She held the prone girl’s hand tightly in her own. As Willow looked upon the girl, she thought about how Tara had come to mean so much to her. Willow began to wonder how life could be so cruel to the beautiful young woman she had come to care about so much.

The silence in the cabin was deafening, Tara’s shallow breathing, the only sound to be discerned. A rising anger started to form in Willow’s gut as she sat in watch over Tara. An anger directed inward as she blamed herself for the cook’s present situation.

She whispered a silent prayer to any deities that she hoped were watching down on the ship’s crew and Tara in particular.

“If anyone is listening then please let Tara live. She don’t deserve ta die, she’s suffered too much already in her life. Tara should know some happiness in her life before she’s taken ta the Golden Palace. If ya must take me in her stead, but don't let nothing bad happen ta her.”

As she held the blonde’s hand she looked at it taking in every detail. The long, elegant fingers, the slight golden coloring from the sun on Tara’s skin, the slight blonde hairs on the back of the arm. One thing that caught Willow’s eye was a tattoo on the inside of the wrist in the shape of a yellow sun. It was a symbol the pirate was familiar with but could not place with any certainty. For now her only concern was for the girl lying on her bed.

Tara lying on her bed. How many times had she dreamed of this since she had given the girl sanctuary aboard her ship? A hundred, a thousand, a hundred thousand? No matter the times, it all lead up to one irrefutable answer. Willow was head over heels in love with Tara and desired her in ways she had not felt in a very long time.

She slowly, gently raised the unconscious girl’s hand, and pressed a soft kiss to the back of it. The skin was warm and soft to her lips and for some reason made Willow think of warm summer day’s in flower filled meadows. There was also a lingering scent of vanilla and honey.

Willow quickly lowered the hand to the bed as Tara uttered a low groaning sound. The redhead peered anxiously at the other girls face in worry, afraid that any damage she had suffered may be worse than first thought. Willow removed the makeshift bandage from Tara’s head and rested her hand against it. It felt a lot warmer than before and less clammy. A small sigh of contentment came from Tara and her features seemed to relax and become more restful, though as she removed her hand to retake her seat by the bed, Willow heard another groaning from the girl though not as bad this time.

Slowly, Tara opened here eyes, squinting a little at the bright sun that even now was well into its journey west. As she raised herself up a little from the pillow a pounding, throbbing pain began in her head. Immediately Tara sank back into the soft, down filled cushion, her resting slightly against her forehead while her thumb gently stroked against it.

“Tara? Tara lass, are ya alright?”

Tara turned to the concerned voice coming from her side and wasn’t at all surprised to see Willow there. She gave a faint smile to the captain before speaking in a sleepy voice.

“Y…yes thank you Captain, though my head feels like it’s in the bell tower of a cathedral.” Her face frowned slightly as another wave of pain crashed through her head.

Willow was instantly on her feet, gong to her desk, grabbing a small silver goblet and pouring some rum into it. She returned to Tara and offered the drink to her. Tara took the goblet gratefully and took a long swallow.

“I had this strange dream,” she began softly, “I was a princess in this tower and I had some kind of enchantment about me keeping me in a deep sleep. Then this prince came along and kissed me waking me from that sleep.”

“Sound’s like a fairy tale lass,” Willow replied trying to keep the jealousy of a prince kissing her beloved out of her voice.

“I know, but the really strange thing is that you were the prince.”

Willow swallowed hard at this, “I…I was the prince ya say Tara? So h…how did I kiss ya?”

“You took my hand like this.” Tara took Willow’s rough hand in her softer one, gently cradling the palm. Willow’s breathing had become jagged and her jaw hung loose. Tara raised Willow’s hand to her full lips and gently kissed the back of the pirate’s hand. As she did so, her blue eyes met Willow’s green and a spark shot between them. Tara put Willow’s hand back down at her side, neither relinquishing the look. A good five minutes passed before Willow spoke.

“God’s Tara, but yer beautiful,” was all the redhead could think of too say in a timbre much softer than her usual voice.

“Willow,” Tara spoke breathlessly as if she had been running a long distance. “I’m in love with you.”
The young pirate grinned at the girl, “It’s about damn time lass.”

Is that the best ya can come up with, ‘it’s about damn time?’ Her mind screamed out its condemnation at these paltry sentiments. Ye've wanted Tara since ya first saw her, surely ya could say summat more romantic ta the girl.
Words of love were not something Willow usually used. She was more a fuck em and forget em person. She would pick a girl up in a tavern, usually a serving wench, or visit a brothel where they would screw till they came crying out in ecstasy. But to tell a girl that she loved her, that was something she had not done in a long time

“Willow…I mean, Captain will you kiss me?”

Tara’s soft voice roused Willow from her inner contemplation and she swallowed hard at this. No one had ever asked her to kiss them before. Willow looked deep into Tara’s sapphire eyes and all she could see there was a love and want that she hadn’t seen in a long time.

There was no further need for words now, only their actions would speak for them. Willow rose and leant over the bed her head hovering above Tara. She placed a hand down on the bed to steady herself then lowered her head to Tara who raised her head and their lips met halfway.
Their lips moved rhythmically against each other as the kiss slowly grew in passion. Willow felt

Tara’s tongue timidly slip from her mouth to lightly trace the redhead’s lips. The blonde lifted her hands to cup Willow’s cheeks while Willow’s hands had crept along the bed cover till they found the other girls hips, which she squeezed gently getting another moan from Tara.

Willow started to take charge of the kiss by taking Tara’s tongue, which was still exploring the redhead’s lips, and taking it within her own mouth and sucked on it eliciting even more moans of passion from the blonde girl who had stolen her heart

The kiss was everything Willow had dreamt it would be and more and she was delighted when Tara placed and arm round her neck drawing her further into the kiss and deepening it. Now Willow moaned into the kiss and moved closer to Tara, her hand wrapping itself in Tara’s hair.
*********************************************************
As she hacked away at the bow of the Angelus, trying to cut the metal spike away that projected from the Slayer under the water, Alex noticed something unusual. She hefted her axe and as she struck the small axe passed straight through. The wood was becoming intangible. The ship was starting to fade away

“Xander, Xander,” she cried out after having clambered back on Slayer.

“What is it,” recognising the panicked look on her face the young man instantly knew something was wrong, but after the way the ship had appeared out of the ether there was little surprise there.

“It’s the other ship Xander, it’s fading.”

“Fading? What the hell are ya saying?”

“One minute I’m hackin’ away at it the next there’s nowt ta hack.”

Xander’s eyebrows shot up to his hairline as he took in this information. Moving to the bow, he saw for himself that the Angelus was indeed fading away to nothingness.

“Hey get away from there,” he called out to the other crewmembers who had been trying to separate the two ships. There was the strong possibility that as the Angelus faded away again; any of the Slayerettes may end up as crew aboard the ghost ship. It wasn’t one he was comfortable with acknowledging but one that was still there regardless.

As the Slayerettes swam back to the rope ladders dangling from the slayer, Alex and Xander watched the patch of invisibility grow and spread. Now it was starting to get dangerously close to the long metal spike, which protruded from the ship just below the water line. Xander reckoned it wouldn’t be long before it reached the wooden planking of the Slayer herself. He had to take action, and now.

The idea was to strike, not at the spike itself but at the length of wood it was screwed into. The length of wood itself was wedged securely into a hollow separate from the bilge. Xander knew that if it was cut away, then the Slayer could retreat to safety and not get dragged into the ether by the rapidly vanishing Angelus.

“Get the longest length of rope you can and get two or three other girls to help, get Buffy on the wheel oh and something sharp to cut with.”

Alex quickly got Chou-Lee and Cosima to help her out and after finding an extra long coil of rope handed her own hatchet to Xander. Quickly he stripped off his shirt, tied one end of the rope about his waist and ensured that the three Slayerettes had a tight hold of the other end of the rope.

“Right, I want you to lower me down till I reach a safe point where I can try and cut the spike off. When I tug three times on the rope haul me back up, got it? Good.”

Alex raised an eyebrow at his plan but agreed to go along with it, even though she thought it incredibly foolhardy and dangerous.

The three girls took up the slack and started to slowly, lower Xander down to the water. As he got further down, he saw that the water was bubbling and boiling like a pot full of stew left over a fire too long.

Oh this is going to be so much fun, came the sour thought as he realised how dangerous the task was going to be.

Water splashed up and hit him full in the chest making him wince as he felt the scalding pain, but he gritted his teeth and continued till he was within striking distance of the wood and, weighing the small axe in his hand, started to hit it.

Even though the wood itself came from a hardened fire tree he was actually making some progress, certainly he was cutting into the wood and a small chip in it had formed. Xander now struck more and more at this point, making it larger and wider. However, the invisibility was still spreading and coming closer to the ship itself.

On the deck, the crew were just watching in horrified disbelief as the mist started to roll in again from nowhere and start to surround the almost completely invisible ghost ship. All except for Buffy who was struggling to steer the Slayer free from the Angelus while Simone and Dawn were working the sails, trying to ensure that they were facing the right direction to get the maximum amount of wind.

“Get ‘em facing more ta port,” Buffy yelled at the two girls who merely rolled their eyes in response before pulling at the booms so the sails were facing port while the ships lieutenant herself spun the wheel as far starboard as she could. This helped a little in that it started to force the spike to move slightly in it’s socket. There was a groaning sound as the metal spike tried to tear free from its wooden cell but to no avail.

Xander, meanwhile, had gotten about half way through the wood holding the spike but by now was tiring. He was attacking the hard wood, but it was akin to melting an anvil with a small fire. The boiling hot water had by now started to scald both his body and arms burning them til they were bright pink and painful to the touch.

The invisibility was spreading ever closer. By now it had already started on the spike. A small amount had been taken from the tip so that it was no longer visible but if you traced carefully with your eye it was clear that the spike was still firmly trapped in the wood of the Angelus.

As the Angelus started to fade, the green mist became thicker and those Slayerettes who watched saw a kind of weird hole of white light opening up. As the ancient ship was starting to be sucked backed in to this uncanny tear in space and time a warping effect could be seen and everybody realised, if Xander didn’t break the wood holding the spike in time, then they would be sucked through as well. Possibly to be never seen again. Ever.

“Break you fucker, break,” Xander grunted through his gritted teeth. By now his entire body was pink from the boiling hot water splashing over him. Every inch of him was in agony and his muscles were sore. He felt a slight dizziness from being upside down for so long and was exhausted but still he would not give up on this. He would keep chopping away at the wood till the Slayer was free or destroyed.

He had hacked away at a great deal of the wood and was chipping it away through it but the sturdiness of the timber used meant that it hadn’t loosened any.

Alex took a quick break from holding the rope keeping Xander safe to check his progress. As she looked, the Slayerette noticed the lack of progress that he had made. Then she saw how close the invisibility was getting and realised that a new plan of action was needed and fast. She quickly informed Chou-Lee and Cosima that she was going to get something to help Xander and hurried to his workshop below decks. Looking around Alex saw the array of saws hanging from a rack on the far wall. A quick appraisal of each saw and she opted for the one that had the biggest teeth. Dashing back to the deck Alex found some extra rope and tied one end round the saw.

She began to lower it carefully to where Xander hung still hacking away at the protruding wood keeping the Slayer attached to the Angelus, which was fading faster than ever. At least half the ghost ship was now vanished when Xander felt the cool metal of the saw touch his scalded flesh making him yelp in pain. He turned awkwardly and saw the woodworking tool, then Alex looking down at him. Xander gave her a thumbs up but his hands were so numb he dropped the hatchet he’d been using into the boiling waters below him.

He cursed to himself under his breath then grabbed the saw and started to attack the wood again. He plunged the teeth into the wood and slowly, painfully began to cut through the one thing standing between the pirate ship and possible undeath. As he sawed through the wood it started to get easier and the hardened timber began to break separating the two ships.

Xander was so intent on his task that he didn’t notice how close the invisibility coming ever closer towards him. The first he knew of the danger was when he looked at the hand holding him in place by the wood and he saw that the top of his thumb was invisible.

His eyes widened and he cried out in horror at the sight of the missing piece of his digit. To save the rest of his hand, Xander removed it from the wood and, placing it on to the saw, quickly set too with his saw plunging it even further into the wood.

By now, he was incredibly weary, his muscles ached and his torso cried out in agony from the boiling water round the ships that had splashed up and scalded him. Despite the pain, he was determined to complete his task, even if it meant his death. As long as he knew that Willow, Buffy, Dawn and Tara were safe, that was all that mattered.

There was a sudden, creaking, splintering sound and the wood that held the metal spike which was keeping the two ships together broke and the currents started to separate them.

Gratified that his work was done, Xander wearily tugged on the rope and let himself go limp. A few seconds later and he could feel himself being hauled up to the deck by the girls on the other end of the rope. Within moments, he was being pulled to safety by Alex, Chou-Lee and Cosima.

“Mister Xander? Are you alright Mister Xander?” Cosima asked with concern as she looked down upon his body. His breathing was so shallow that his chest barely moved. He suddenly screamed out in agony as water was poured over his chest and both Cosima and Alex glared up at Kat who stood there with a drinking cup from the water barrel.

“Why do you hurt Mister Xander? He has just dared his life for yours and all you do is add to his pain.” Cosima complained while Kat merely gave a bored shrug of the shoulders.

“He looked a bit sunburned so I thought I’d cool him of a bit,” she replied in an uninterested voice. “Not my fault if he can’t take the heat.”

“Fuck off Kat, just fuck off back to the crow’s nest,” Alex snarled savagely at her enemy who merely sniffed and walked away as if she didn’t have a care in the world.

“How is he?” Buffy asked as she came rushing up to the others.

“It don’t look good Buffy, it don’t look good at all. He may not survive,” Alex told her bluntly while Cosima nodded her head in agreement, her face frowning in worry.

“I’m getting the Cap’n. She’s going to want to know if anything is going to happen to Xander.” With that, the blonde stood and set off at a run towards below decks where the cabins lay.
Simone had come forward and was looking towards the Angelus when she suddenly let out a gasp.

“God’s, look”, she said pointing at where the other ship was finally fading away into nothingness. Alex stood while Cosima cradled Xander gently in her arms, his head on her lap. A shiver ran down the backs of the two observers as slowly the day lost the chill that had fallen when Angelus had appeared. The sun felt warm and comforting to the crew while round the ship the water had stopped boiling and churning. Indeed, it was as if the Angelus had never even been there.

Totally oblivious to all the action occurring on the deck, the kissing between Tara and Willow had become wild and passionate, the kisses of two who had desired each other from afar for far too long. Willow cupped one of Tara’s cheeks with her hand while her other was entwined in the girls blonde locks. Tara, meanwhile, slipped her fingers into the others silky red hair, her other arm, pulling Willow closer by wrapping itself round her waist. The upper portion of Tara’s dress had somehow gotten torn revealing more of the buxom girl’s bountiful breasts.

Willow started tracing her tongue over Tara’s lips, seeking admittance to the lovely girl’s mouth. Tara immediately complied and gave entry to the redhead’s tongue. They kissed even deeper than before, Tara moaning her erotic joy from the pleasure Willow was giving her. This was all she had dreamed it would be and so much more.

By this time, Willow was practically straddling Tara who was probing her loves hot little mouth, loving the feel of the velvet smooth tongue against her own. Willow reluctantly pulled her lips away from Tara’s who gave a little moan of displeasure at the separation. She pulled herself fully onto the bed and grinned at Tara.

“God’s but yer beautiful Tara!” She exclaimed breathlessly, “I’ve wanted ya so much since first I saw ya. The way ya make me feel just by lookin’ at ya, ya just take me breath away.”

For a long moment Tara just stared at Willow, giddy with the current experience of lovemaking. She took in the redhead, her white shirt open enough at the chest to reveal a glimpse of tempting cleavage; the skin tanned a warm brown. The green eyes were darkened with passion and Tara knew they both wanted the same thing. Each other.

“And I you, my Captain,” the blonde replied in a quiet voice. “So take me, all of me.”

They resumed their kissing, starting slowly again, exploring each others mouths but it wasn’t long before the wild and passionate natures in both girls took a hold of them and their kissing once more became ardent with tongues probing and hands touching all over. Tara felt Willow’s hand slide up the material of her cotton dress and cup her breast, giving it a gentle squeeze.
Immediately she felt her nipples swell and harden against the scratchy cloth of the rough dress she wore. Oh I could get used to this; the thought came unbidden to Tara’s mind as a gasp of exultation escaped her mouth.

Never had she dreamed it could be like this, to join with another woman in this way. The animalistic, passionate lovemaking and feelings of desire that Tara now felt had always been just a fantasy to her. A dream that she thought would never be realised. And then Willow had entered her life.

Tara slid her hands under Willow’s shirt, stroking the warm, smooth flesh there and feeling the powerful muscles in the redheads back ripple under her gentle massage. Yet somehow this wasn’t enough for Tara, she wanted more flesh. She started to tear at the material of Willow’s shirt, wanting to rip the clothing off her so she could gaze upon the Captains naked body in all its glory.

Somewhere in the back of her mind, a small portion of Tara’s brain was telling her that this was a bad idea and that she’d regret it on the morrow. The rest of the brain, which was currently driven by lust and hormonal longing, told that cautionary part of the brain to fuck off. Tara wanted to be taken by this wild, vivacious buccaneering young woman and taken now.
Suddenly the cabin door burst open and Buffy entered.

“Will, Will, whoa there.” She stopped as she saw her best friend making out big time with the ship’s cook. It appeared that she had gone from first base and almost to third completely missing out second.

“What the hell, Buffy would ya be so kind as ta fuck off, we’re kinda busy here,” Willow said with no small amount of sarcasm, as both she and Tara turned to where Buffy stood.

“Will, Will,” the voice was quiet, almost a whisper. “You should come, it’s Xander. We’re not sure but we think he’s dying.” She choked back the tears that were already shining in her eyes as Willow’s own emerald green eyes opened wide in horror.

Xander lay unconscious on the deck, his breathing shallow. His skin was a bright red colour from the scalding he had received while separating Slayer from the ghost ship. Some of the girls were pouring cold water over his body in an attempt to cool it down.

Both Willow and Tara were horrified as they saw the young man lying there in his prone state. Willow knelt by his side and gently raised his head in her hands, practically holding it in her lap.

“Aaah, ya daft bastard,” she said in a soft voice full of love for her oldest friend. “Yer always risking yer life fer others ain’t ya.” She turned to Tara, “Can ya help him?”

“Umm, well I’m um, not exactly sure if I…”

“Can ya help him?” This time the voice was a lot firmer, more commanding though the redhead’s position hadn’t changed by Xander’s side.

“I..I don’t know,” at the glare from the Captain Tara quickly amended herself, “B…but I can try.”
Tara knelt on the opposite side of Xander, facing Willow. She closed her eyes and clasped her hands together as if in prayer. Willow, Buffy and the other onlookers were astonished to see a white light grow around the blonde’s hands. A light that, as they watched grew in brilliance. Tara then opened her eyes once more and gently laid her hands on Xander’s chest, muttering under her breath the entire time.

As the group of pirates watched, they saw the angry red on his body slowly fade til it was back to its normal warm brown colouring. His breathing became stronger and Xander slowly roused. His eyes flickered open and he saw Willow looking down at him, concern the only expression on her face and in her eyes.

“Will, are we free? Did I separate us from that other ship?” The voice was weak from exhaustion and when Xander tried to swallow it hurt. Still he pushed himself up into a sitting position and looked around at the girls staring in wonderment at him.

“Aye Xan, ya released us. And nearly died in the process, ya ever do that again and I’ll kill ya meself,” she said with a small smile before wrapping her arms round him in a tight hug.

Buffy, meanwhile, was looking at Tara oddly and the young blonde was starting to feel more than a little intimidated by the stare she was getting.

“I…is there some…something wrong B…Buffy?” Tara’s gentle voice was far softer than normal and she looked down at where her toes were flexing nervously. No one had actually noticed but Dawn had left the wheel in Simone’s hands and moved toward the group, paying attention to everything that was happening.

“Not really no, it’s just,” there was a long pause while Buffy continued to look long and hard at Tara. “I just wondered how you’re able to heal people so well. I mean with the kind of scalds that Xander had on him it should have taken weeks for them to heal, but you did it in a few minutes. How?”

If Tara could have looked down any further, she would. In fact she was wishing that she was anywhere other than the deck of the Slayer, for now she would have to reveal her secret to the crew. And that was something which unnerved her more than anything else.

“Aye, just how did ya heal Xander so quick and what the hell was goin’ on below decks on that ghost ship?” This new question came from Willow and this upset Tara even more. She had hoped that maybe there could be a future of some kind between herself and the fiery Captain, but now… now she wasn’t so sure. Now she was scared but realised that they would have found out sooner or later.

“I…I was a…able to heal Mr. Xander so…so easily be…because.” She hesitated, fear was tying her stomach in knots.”

“Go on lass, because,” Willow encouraged her, not unkindly.

“Be…because I’m…I’m a witch.”
