Chapter 10 Reconnection
When the alarm clock next to her bed showed 6:40 Tara got up and headed downstairs. She had sent Faith and Dawn home an hour ago saying she needed some time alone. And she also didn’t want them to miss their day together; she knew how important it was to them. Even though they both insisted that to help a friend they didn’t mind giving up one night. Faith had said that they could still fuck like bunnies tonight anyway. Tara laughed to herself, she was really lucky that she had still got her friends when she came back. Now it was time to get her goddess back.
Tara hopped into her Chevy trailblazer and drove off towards the Rosenbergs. Once she got there she stopped in front of the house behind Willow’s truck. She sighed her nerves making her stomach jump all over the place. Here it was the moment she had dreamed about for so long. She needed this woman like she needed air and here was her chance to get her back.
Inside the house Willow was pacing by the couch looking at the door like any moment it was going to burst into flames. Tiffany, Sheila, and Ira were sitting at the kitchen table out of sight of the redhead, but with a full view of the front door as well. Ira who had been in London on business that last couple days had come home around 6, and had been caught up by his wife on the past few days events. He had also grown to forgive the gentle blonde and love her as a daughter. He was really hopping that tonight could be the start down a road of healing that both girls desperately needed.
Willow saw the lights of a car pull up outside the living room window and she had to take a deep breath making herself calm down, before she had a heart attack.
“She’s here,” she yelled knowing her family was close by somewhere out of sight.
She heard a small rustle come from the dining room area knowing that it was them all moving to get a glimpse of what was going to happen. Then Tiff came running into the living room giving Willow a big hug and whispering in her ear, “Give her a chance to explain Will. You both deserve this more than anything.”
Willow smiled to her sister and hugged her one last time and mouthed “Thank you” as Tiff went back into the dining room. As soon as Tiff disappeared there was a knock at the door that made Willow jump practically out of her skin. After settling herself down again she walked to the door and noticed her hand shaking, as she went to reach for the handle. Once it made its destination she turned the knob and opened the door. As soon as the door opened and revealed Tara, Willow gasped.
Tara looked amazing. She had a simple blouse and skirt on but the way she wore the outfit just took the redhead’s breath away. And she had this slight smile on her face, that was lopsided like it always was for Willow, but it also had a bit of a nervous look to it.
As soon as the door opened and Tara saw Willow it was like all the air had left her lungs. She couldn’t believe how gorgeous this woman had become. Willow was in a simple shirt and jeans, but she looked amazing, gorgeous. Tara for what seemed like the hundredth time today had to mentally pinch herself, so that she knew that this was all coming true.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
They both laughed saying the same thing at the same time.
“Jinx, you owe me a soda, “Willow said trying to make the blonde laugh again, loving the heavenly sound.
Tara giggled, “So does that mean I can’t talk until you say my name?”
“No it means you can still talk, you just owe me a soda”
“How bout I buy dinner and we call it even, “Tara said giving her famous lopsided grin
The smile again took Willow’s breath away and it took her a second to respond, “I think that would work just the same. I might end up owe you though.”
“So what do you say we go on this date and talk,” Tara said gesturing towards her SUV.
“I think that sounds like a wonderful idea.” She turned to grab her wallet off the table near the door and giving her family the thumbs up as Tara turned, and started down the porch steps.
Tara turned waiting for Willow to shut the door before she continued. They walked down the rest of the three steps together and walked side by side down the path. The path not being very big they brushed hands multiple times on the way to the car. Willow smiled at this, feeling the power surge every time her hand touched the blonde’s. She really wanted to hold her hand but she knew that there would be a time for that later, or at least she hoped there would be.
After they both got into the car and pulled away from the curb, Tara decided to talk a little bit so that neither of them felt awkward even though after 6 years that didn’t seem to be the feeling.
“So Will, where would you like to go eat at?”
“I don’t know really, it’s been so long since I’ve been back here I don’t know what’s open anymore.”
“Well Pete’s steak house is open still if you want to go there?”
“Yeah that sounds great, I haven’t seen Pete’s since I worked there in high school”
“Yeah I went there once with Tiff, he asked about you. Tiff says he always does, so maybe that would be a good idea. Not to mention it’s nice and it’ll give us a chance to talk. I really owe you an explanation and an apology.”
“Tara I’ve been thinking about that, about what you said yesterday. You pretty much already gave me your reason for why you stopped. I can’t believe you would think that I could find someone else ever. Cause I mean after six year I still love you just as much as I did before you left. And I’m sorry; that you felt that breaking up with me was the only way to make me feel better, about you being gone.”
“I’m so sorry about that Will, I wasn’t sure if was coming back. Dad talked about moving to Japan after high school in Germany, and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. So I decided I would give you the chance to move on. I knew I never was going to, but I thought maybe giving you the chance to was the only fair thing to do. I see now that it only hurt us both more in the end.”
“Tara you don’t have to apologize, you were just being the loving person that I fell in love with. You always look out for other people instead of yourself and I couldn’t ask for someone better. So how bout tonight we have a reconnection. How bout instead of explanations and apologies, we just start again. I missed you so much and I want to see if this can work, like I know in my heart it can. I know it’s going to take some time to rebuild, but it’s us Tare, we are meant to be together.”
Tara pulled up outside the steakhouse the parking lot, it was packed, and she was glad that she had called Pete and asked him to keep a table open. She wasn’t sure if this was where the redhead wanted to go, but she figured she wanted to be prepared if it was.
She had tears in her eyes when she turned toward her goddess and smiled at her.
“Will, I love you too and I think that’s a great idea. We deserve to give this the chance that it didn’t get six years ago.”
“So does that mean you’re my girlfriend,” Willow repeated the same line that she had back in high school making them both smile.
“Yes, if that’s what you want, I need you in my life Will.”
Willow smiled, “Me too Tare.”
Willow leaned in getting closer and closer to the lips she had dreamed about kissing for so long, she was centimeters from her destination when there was a big bang of someone hitting the car, making them both jump. When they looked up to see who it was, they saw that it was Big Pete himself smiling at them both, Willow smiled back but only half heartedly. She looked back at Tara and mouthed “Later” and Tara nodded her head as they both reached for the handles of the doors and stepped out.
Willow was instantly enveloped into a hug bear hug by her former boss. She had always loved working at Pete’s, and had been there for four years. All through high school, it didn’t matter that she missed the high school football games or Saturday nights. Even when she and Tara were together because as soon as Pete met Tara, not too long after she moved to Orlim, he had hired her as a waitress too. It had always been wonderful working side by side with her best friend and future girlfriend. They had some great nights at Pete’s.
“It’s so great to see my favorite couple back in the saddle,” Pete boomed in his thick Greek accent.
“It’s been way to long for the both of you, and now here you are, at my restaurant, making out in my parking lot. It’s like you two are back in high school eh.”
“Yeah Pete, except this time we didn’t get to kiss, you came a bit too early. You’re losing your touch man,” Willow joked with the older gentleman.
Tara came around to the other side of the trailblazer to give Pete a hug. As soon as she was close enough, the big man grabbed her and hugged her squeezing with all his might. In high school she was shy; this man had really been great about bringing it out in her. Working here and being friends with Willow, was probably what made her stop stuttering. After he let her go she smiled at Willow and they both shared a small laugh.
“Well what are you two waiting for; this is a date isn’t it? You guys should be inside enjoying some fabulous food and making out at my tables. I got your usual table ready too. So let’s go inside,” Pete said putting himself in the middle of the girls with his arms wrapped around their shoulders. The girls smiled again and walked inside with the man.
Once inside they were seated in their favorite room, the one with all the memorabilia from, Orlims early days. Their table was the table next to the window, kind of secluded from the rest of the restaurant. This was the table they would have usually sat at, back when they worked here, when they were having their dinner breaks or folding napkins. No one ever really liked it back here cause it was so secluded so the table was usually always open, unless it was a really busy night like tonight was.
After Pete sat them down and introduced them to the waitress Cindy, who looked to be about 16 and always seemed to jump at the big boom of Pete’s voice. Willow felt slightly bad for her, but also knew that working here was probably the best for her. Cause after a while you learned to get use to Pete and his big personality, you actually end up getting louder yourself. It was one of the perks of working here. You learned some self confidence under this man’s wings. The young girl handed them menus and took their drink order, water for Tara and a Sprite for Willow.
Once they were alone, looking at their menus, Willow smiled at Tara noticing her hand was looking slightly lonely on her lap. Willow wasn’t completely sure she should but she had wanted to hold some part of this woman for so long that she couldn’t resist. She reached across the small space between them and grabbed the hand, lacing their fingers but leaving their hands in Tara’s lap, giving her a chance to pull away if she wanted to. But instead, the blonde squeezed Willow’s hand and smiled at her. Willow noticing that they were completely alone again, leaned in to get that kiss, when Cindy showed up at the table again with their drinks.
Willow slightly frustrated thanked the girl for the drinks, making Tara giggle at the undertone in Willow’s voice. After they gave her their orders, they sat there and chatted a little bit. They talked about Tara’s time in Germany and how she had learned very little of the language, and hadn’t really liked it there. They talked about Willow’s college and her business, how it had become a reality so soon after college. Tara then talked about her business, saying that she had been wanted to do landscaping for so long, but her parents had told her that she would make a great lawyer. She was glad she went with her heart in the end.
“So Faith and Dawn work for you then,” Willow asked taking a bite of her prime rib.
“Yeah, Dawn went to school for business and Faith being Faith didn’t really go to college. So when I told them I was starting a business for landscaping, I asked if they would want to come work for me. Dawn is my business lady; she’s kinda like my manager if I was a singer. She keeps all my dates and appointments and she gets me knew clients. And if Dawn is my right hand, Faith is like my left hand plus some muscles. She basically helps me put in what the client wants. She’s my field worker. I go to every sight myself as well; wanting to make sure it’s done right. I also design for the client, so it’s kinda like my artwork only in people yards. I do it for businesses too. Dawn goes with us too and it’s just the three of us working together.”
“Wow that sounds great, I wish sometimes my company could be ran by three people. I’m responsible for so many people, it’s crazy. I have my top designer though, Rochelle, she’s become a great friend and she’s actually the one running things right now. I don’t know what I would do without her; I don’t trust anyone else to take care of it when I’m gone. I also design some ,but as of lately it’s been so busy and we opened up another branch in LA, that I haven’t been able to design anything. I really miss it though, sometimes I joke with Rochelle about us switching jobs for a day.
They kept talking and eating till their steaks were done. Pete came over then, asking how the food was and telling them they had to have some of his famous Greek baklava for dessert. Willow hadn’t let Tara’s hand go the entire night and it felt great. After the baklava got finished off and they told Pete their thanks and goodbyes, promising to come back soon, they got back into the car.
“So where do you want to go now, it’s almost 9, do you want to go home,” Tara asked hoping she would say no. The date had been going great and she really didn’t want it to end.
“No, I mean tomorrow is Monday, do you have to work? If it’s too late for you we could call it a night,” Willow said also hoping the night wouldn’t end.
“No I don’t have to work tomorrow. How bout we go back to town and grab a coffee from the Espresso Pump and maybe go back to my place,” Tara asked hoping it wasn’t too forward.
“That sounds great, I haven’t had a mocha since the morning, I’m overdue,” Willow joked.
So Tara drove them to the back to her apartment and parked in her usual spot. Telling Willow it would be silly not to just park here and walk down the block, to the corner where the café was. Willow agreed and they started walking that way. This time Tara got up the bravery and laced her fingers with Willow, holding her hand walking down her street. She smiled to herself realizing her dream was yet again coming true.
They went into the Pump and got mochas and left the shop, their hands blindly finding each other again both smiling at each other.
“So that’s why I saw you at the corner that day isn’t it,” Willow said something striking her.
“Yeah I had just gotten done with a client, went to get a coffee and head home, when I saw you and your mom and sister.”
“I guess it was just meant to be,” Willow said smiling at the blonde.
They walked into Tara’s apartment building walking up the small flight of stairs to her apartment. Once inside they decided to sit on the couch and talk a bit more. After a couple more hours of talking and laughing Willow looked at the time, it was past midnight.
“Wow, its midnight already, I should probably head home I don’t want to wake anyone,” she said getting up to leave.
“You could always spend the night here, I mean you can sleep in my bed and I’ll sleep out here on the couch,” Tara said again not wanting to let the redhead leave just yet.
“I don’t want to put you out like that Tare, really”
“Will I have to drive you home anyway, I drove remember.”
“Oh yeah, but I still can’t let you sleep on the couch this is your place after all.”
“Then why don’t you sleep with me in my bed,” Tara said blushing at how that sounded.
“I mean I don’t mean it like that, it just…”
Willow cut her off, “It’s ok, if you do mean it like that cause I was thinking about that as soon as you said it.”
Willow took a step closer to the blonde making Tara’s breath hitch in her throat. Willow wrapped her arms around Tara bringing her in close so that their bodies were pressed together, in all the right places.
“That is if you don’t think it’s too soon, I’ve wanted this for over 6 years though and we’re both adults now,” Willow whispered seductively.
Tara’s breath started getting quicker feeling Willow’s body against her own was enough to make her head already start to spin. She too had wanted this for so long. She wanted to touch the redhead and make the redhead feel how much she meant to her.
“It’s not too soon at all, I’ve wanted this for so long Will, you have no idea.”
Willow smiled, running her hand up the blonde’s back making her shiver lacing her fingers in the golden locks, bringing Tara’s head down to hers. Their lips meeting a second later, Willow moaned softly, sending the blood running down to both their centers. Their lips moved against each others in a dance that they greatly missed. Tara wanted more though so she traced Willow’s lips with her tongue asking for access into her mouth. Willow parted her lips instantly, granting the access, feeling Tara glide her tongue into her mouth, she let out another soft moan and as soon as their tongues met each other it was joined by a moan from Tara. After a few minutes, could have been hours in their minds, of standing there kissing they both came up for the much needed air. Tara grabbed Willow’s hand, walking backwards toward her room never losing eye contact with her goddess.
