This is a nice treatment of our girls' falling in love stage of their relationship. Quite a few elements in your storyline easily allow one to fall back into the sweetness of the adolescent days and I should make specific reference to the mocha-sharing and little-note-of-paper-with-hands-lightly-touching scenes.

I also think it's interesting how Tara finally stops to linger on the meaninglessness of the interactions that occur within the gang. There is no irritation whatsoever however in her musings and in my eyes, it makes the admiration she is developing for Willow take on a stronger stance.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the great feedback as always.

Chapter 5
Willow sat under the same tree with some of the drumline at lunch.

“So how is everything with your girlfriend?” Nick, a freshman who played bass, asked mockingly.

“You are so juvenile.” Oz said, but really was curious in the answer. He had secretly been crushing on Willow since she arrived, but she had made it clear she was a lesbian from the beginning.

“Actually she brought me coffee while I was at work last night, and we’re going out for coffee sometime after school today.” Willow beamed at the 4 guys.

“Really!” Xander said. “That’s cool Wils, you gonna ask her to homecoming?”

“I don’t know, I mean I don’t really know her, we’ve talked a few times, but I don’t know if she’s interested in me as a girlfriend or just a friend.”

“If she were a guy it would be easy.” Matt said.

“What do you mean?” Willow asked.

“I mean guys don’t really have girls that are friends. They are always hoping one day to get laid by the chick.” Matt explained.

“So you all really aren’t my friends, you just want to have sex with me?” Willow asked.

“Well it’s different cuz you’re gay, so you are like one of the guys. But seriously Wils, if you ever wanted to do a guy I wouldn’t say no.” Xander teased.

“Thanks Xander, I’m going to go puke now.” Willow said making a gagging sound.

“Seriously, if you get in with Tara, you could hook me up with Anya.”

“Anya! Are you kidding me, that chick’s a full on B.” Matt said.

“No more than any of the others, well except Tara, she’s always been nice to me.” Oz said. Willow smiled at this, of course her crush was nice to everyone. Willow didn’t think Tara had a cruel bone in her body.

“Who cares, she’s hot.” Xander said.

“Xander has a thing for chicks that verbally abuse him.” Oz explained to Willow.

“That explains a lot.” Willow mused. “So you guys ready for our first field show of the year?”

The first football game was next Friday and while they didn’t have the whole fields show down, they were performing the first movement on the field at half time, as well as playing in the stands and opening up with a march around the track. They saw football games as more of a practice session, most of the students at the school could care less about the band.

“I’m a little nervous actually.” Nick spoke up.

“There’s nothing to be nervous about, it’s actually really fun. It’s pretty relaxed, more like practice.” Oz said. “Besides, I think the line this year is way better than previous years.”

Tara stood in front of the squad after school showing them the moves she and Cordelia had thought of earlier that day, she also showed them the video Cordelia had found of the stellar move she wanted them to perform.
“I don’t know Tara, It seems really hard.” Buffy said as she watched the video.

“I know but just think if we could pull it off, it would be awesome. We can totally do it you guys, we have a great squad this year.” Tara tried to convince them. She really hadn’t been into cheerleading this year. What was the point, what were they working for. Big deal if they won state, it wasn’t like she could take this to college, or get a degree in it. She shook her head, she had to get back into it, her team counted on her. “Ok guys, let’s try the starting moves, then we’ll cool down with some cheers, we have a pep relay next week before the game, so we need to tighten some stuff up.” Tara said and all the girls followed.

After practice, Tara made her way toward the band room. She heard the sounds of percussion coming out of the room. She peered inside and saw several of the drumline playing different instruments. Willow was currently playing the xylophone holding two mallets in each hand as she expertly moved them in synchronicity. Tara knew the song they were playing, it was Metalica’s Fuel. They all seemed to be having a great time, as each bounced up and down with smiles on their face as they banged on the instruments. Tara stopped at the door and stood watching, the sound was unbelievable, it sounded almost as good as the CD. Willow seemed to play the melody while the others accompanied. They all seemed to stop at once when they noticed her standing there. She felt a little self conscious as she raised her hand in a little wave.

“Hi.”

“Tara Hi.” Willow was the first to speak up. “We were just practicing.”

“Metalica is practicing?” Tara smiled.

All of the guys seemed to look down, embarrassed at being caught. Willow smiled back sultry and Tara thought she might die right there.

“No, smartass, we were just messing around.”

“Well it sounded really good.” Tara complimented them.

“Let me introduce you. That’s Xander on set.” She said as she pointed with her mallets toward the dark haired guy. “Oz is on Timpani. Nick is on the Glock and Matt’s on bass. Everyone else left so we were just messing around.”

“Hi” All the guys said leering at Tara.

“Ok so coffee, I’ll see you guys later.” Willow said quickly hurrying Tara out the door, before they could undress her with their eyes.

They walked side by side toward the coffee shop across the street.

“So how was your practice?” Willow asked.

“Oh, um, good, we finally settled on part of the routine, then just did some drills.”

“That’s good, will we get to see it at the game?” Willow questioned.

“Probably not, it’s still pretty far off, we’ll probably do something from last year. We haven’t decided yet.” Tara said pushing the cross walk button.
Willow nervously stood waiting for the signal to change. Tara really was absolutely gorgeous, and nice too. She was really the real deal and Willow felt herself falling hard and fast. Get with it, don’t scare her off with your weirdness. Willow chided herself.

“So what else is there to do in this town besides coffee?” Willow asked breaking the silence.

“The usual I guess, bowling, movies, dinner that kind of thing. What kinds of things did you do in your old town?”

“The same. I suppose most towns are alike. Maybe we could do something like that sometime.” Willow questioned as they started across the street.

“I think I’d like that.” Tara smiled, and received a smile in return. They ordered their coffee and sat down in a rather secluded booth in the back.

“So are you liking it here?”

“I’m liking it more and more each day.” Willow flirted back. Tara blushed and dropped her head. “It’s a lot different than my other school though.”

“How so?”

“Well the band pretty much ruled the school, we were the best in the state, kind of like the football team here. It’s just really different, the band here is, well, pretty awful, I doubt we’ll break top 15, although if the other bands in this state suck as much as we do, maybe we’ll have a chance.”

“So you were all popular at your old school.”

“Kind of, sort of like you are here.”

“Oh no, I’m not that popular.”

“Oh believe me Tara you are. Let me tell you from the other side of the fence you kind of rule the school.”

“I wouldn’t go that far.” Tara knew Willow was teasing her now, but it did hold some truth.

“Are you guys performing at the pep rally next week?”

“Yeah, we do all of them, try to rile up the students. They are actually pretty fun, and if it gets me out of Trig then I am all for it.”

“Hey if you ever need any help with it, I am pretty good in Math.”

“I hear you are pretty good in everything, a regular genius seems to be the word around the school.”

“No, I’m no genius, I just happened to have taken all these classes at my old school.” Tara knew Willow was being modest.

“Speaking of that Cordelia wanted me to ask if you would tutor her.” Tara laughed.

“I wouldn’t mind actually, well if I have the time, and she really needs help.”

“Oh no I was just kidding, I mean she does, but Cordelia is more of a here you do it while I paint my nails kind of girl. She’s not really into the whole school thing you know.”

“Yeah I know the type. I’m looking forward to the game next Friday, I assume you guys will be there?”

“Yeah we’re going on first half, then letting JV do the second half.”

“Oh I won’t get to see you then.” Willow said pouting. Tara thought it was the cutest thing in the whole world. And she’s upset she won’t get to see you cheer, that is so sweet. Tara thought as Willow continued. “We march around the track beginning of the game, then practice until half time. After that we play in the stands, so maybe if you get a chance you can stop by and say hi.”

“Of course I will. Plus, you’ll get to see our routine at the pep rally anyway. Next week is pretty cool here, we have spirit week and as cheesy as it sounds, it’s pretty fun.”

“Well I’m looking forward to my first spirit week, go Warriors.” Willow said and made a fist in the air. Tara laughed and noticed the clock on the wall.

“Sorry to say this, but I need to get home. My parents are expecting me for dinner.”

“Oh that’s cute.”

“What your parents don’t expect you home?” Tara asked.

“No they’re out of town for two weeks.”

“That must be nice.”

“Yeah, it’s cool.” But Tara got the impression Willow didn’t think it was very cool.

“Let me give you my cell number, in case you want to get together sometime.” Tara said a little unsure of how to phrase the question of possibly hanging out this weekend.

“Sure.” Willow said and dug out her cell phone. They exchanged numbers and went on their separate ways.

Yay to the first pseudo-date. They're very sweet and I loved the teasing by the drumline about whether Willow would ask Tara to homecoming. You've really captured the best side of high school. Pep rally should be fun.

This really does take me back to the social science experiment that is high school no matter what generation you belong to.
Tara is taking her first steps into a larger world by questioning what the point is of Spirit Week and the emphasis placed upon sporting events.
Bring It On, I say to Willow and Tara doing any of the other non coffee-drinking activities that one can avail oneself of as a teenager.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

Very nice first "date." I would recommend that one of them get more direct. You know ask about that dinner or coffee or something and call it a date.

But it is very cute.

Hi guys,
Had to rebuild my laptop so I haven't been able to write, but everything is back now. Heres and update, I hope it was worth the wait.

Chapter 6
Tara arrived home and smelled lasagna baking in the oven. She wondered about Willow and why she never talked about her parents, or even went home for that matter. I guess if they aren’t around then there is no reason to go home. Tara shrugged it off and went in the kitchen to help with dinner.

“Hi Baby girl.” Her dad greeted her.

“Hi Daddy.”

“How’s the first week going?” Her mom asked mixing a salad.

“Great, I met a new girl Willow, she’s in the band. She’s really cool.”
Tara tried to hide the smile that lit up her face, but her parent’s new better.

“I see, so this Willow is she pretty?” Her dad asked smirking.

Tara smiled knowing she couldn’t keep much from her parents. “She is, and really smart too, in all the Advanced Placement classes. Cordelia over heard a teacher saying Willow knew more Calculus than she did. Plus she is really talented, she plays the toms for the band, and I’ve heard her play piano, my god she is really amazing.”

“Hum, I think someone might have a little crush.” Her mom smiled.

“I really like her, and I think she likes me too. I mean she seems to like to hang out with me, and we get along great, but maybe she’s straight and just sees me as a friend. I don’t know, I guess we’ll see.” Tara said confronting her fears about Willow.

“Well you should bring her around sometime, I’ll see if my gaydar is on.” Her dad laughed.

“Daddy!” Tara admonished.

Friday and Saturday came and went, with both girls not having seen each other. Tara started to worry that Willow was scared off by Tara giving her, her phone number. Tara took a chance and Sunday made a trip to the mall.

Willow sat at the counter watching a few customers wander around the candy bins trying to decide what sugary goodness they wanted to purchase. Sunday’s were usually light days as well since the mall closed early. Willow idly doodled on some scrap paper while she waited for the customers to pay. She had stocked all the bins and cleaned the entire store earlier that day and was now watching the clock move every so slowly to 6pm.

“Hey you.” An enthusiastic voice came from her left. She smiled as the voice rang through her ears and into her heart.

“Tara, what are you doing here?”

“Just thought I would drop by, see if you wanted to catch a movie after you get off?”

“Sure that would be great. I was wondering what I was going to do after this, probably practice, but this is even better.” Willow gave Tara an award winning smile, hoping Tara could sense how much she loved to spend time with the blond. “I get off in half an hour, do you want to hang out?” Willow almost pleaded so she would have something to do for the next 30 minutes.

“Sure, if you won’t get in trouble.”

Willow waved off the comment. “Please, my boss is just glad someone shows up and…” She was cut off by a customer asking a question.

“Is this sugar free?”

“Does it say Sugar Free on the bin?” Willow asked, trying to remain patient with the evil customer who wanted to invade Tara time.

“No.”

“Then it’s not.” Willow heard Tara snicker.

“Well do you have it in sugar free?”

Willow decided not to yell across the store, so excused herself from Tara and went to help the customer.

After the store was locked up, Willow and Tara walked out of the mall to the now empty parking lot.

“Is that your car?” Tara asked as she pointed to an old blue 1987 Volvo sedan.

“Um yeah.” Willow said sort of ashamed. “It’s not much, but the price was right and it runs.”

“Oh no, I didn’t mean anything by it, it looks nice and clean.” Tara said trying to find something good about the piece of junk.

“Don’t worry, I know it’s a piece. It’s definitely not as nice as your car.” Willow said.

“Oh, well birthday present from my parents.” Tara said now feeling ashamed of her car. “Um did you want to drive? We could just pick up my car later?”

“Sure.” Willow said as they made their way to her car. Tara was right when she said the car was clean, it was and it ran well. Tara could see why Willow would pick such a car. She was grateful to her parents for buying the car, but she thought maybe she didn’t deserve it. “Are you ok?” Willow asked after she had been driving for a few minutes.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Tara said putting on a fake cheerleader smile.

Willow placed her hand on Tara’s thigh, causing both to inhale a sharp breath at the contact. “You know you can tell me anything, I won’t judge you, I’m not like that.”

Tara smile a genuine smile. “I know that Wil.”

Willow beamed, causing Tara to cock her head to the side and ask. “What?”

“You called me Wil, I like it.” Willow simply stated as she turned back toward the road.

Tara gave directions and soon Willow was pulling up outside the movie theater. She reached in the back seat and fumbled around for a bag of candy she brought from work, and held it up for Tara to see.

“One of the perks of working at a candy store.” She said before stuffing it under her jacket and opening the door.

They decided to see the current romantic comedy that was playing, both divulging they were romantics at heart.

They found seats in the back of the theater, being a Sunday night it wasn’t very crowded. A few people filed in, and Willow and Tara made small talk until the lights went down and the movie previews came on. Willow was nervous, here she was sitting with the captain of the cheerleading squad, wanting nothing more than to hold her hand, but not knowing how to make the first move.

Tara wasn’t faring much better, she had dated girls before, but this was different. It was much more adult, Tara felt like this meant so much more than those other girls did. She shifted in her seat and whispered to Willow “That movie looks good.” referring to the preview on the screen. She didn’t even know which movie she was referring to, but she had to be closer to Willow. She smelled so sweet and good, Tara had to linger for just a moment to take in her scent.

Willow shivered when she felt Tara’s hot breath reach her ear. She was momentarily in a stupor imagining what it would feel like for Tara to take her ear between her lips and softly kiss all over her neck. Willow suddenly felt hot and flushed, she reached for the drink she bought and took a few sips in an attempt to cool down her blood.

The movie had started, but neither girl knew it, their concentration was on each other. Willow shifted her leg so it was touching Tara’s, when the blond didn’t move Willow took it as a good sign. She moved her hand so it rested on her own leg mimicking Tara’s hand. She felt the blood pumping through her veins at an alarming rate. Ok this is it, just reach over and hold her hand. If she doesn’t like it she’ll pull away, you will totally freak her out and that will ruin any chance at a friendship, but god I have to try. There is no way I can sit here any longer and not know. And with that Willow slowly moved her hand over and on top of Tara’s. She kept her eyes focused on the screen in front of her, but she didn’t see anything.

Tara felt the first tentative touch of Willow’s hand on her own, she felt something flood through her veins much like an adrenaline rush. This was really happening. She turned her hand over and interlaced her fingers with Willow’s, and felt Willow respond with the tightening of their hands.

They sat that way through the rest of the movie, neither paying attention to the screen. Tara had started running her thumb over the back of Willow’s hand. Willow felt lightheaded. I can’t believe just holding her hand is having this affect on me. I’ve held other girls’ hands, so why is this so different. Willow wondered as the credits rolled and the lights came on in the theater. It was much too quick for either girl as they reluctantly released hold of one another and exited the movie theater.

“So I thought the movie was good.” Willow said breaking the silence. She really had no idea what the movie was about and hoped she was making an accurate review.

“Yeah it was funny.” Tara said, also having no idea what the movie was about.

As Willow drove back to Tara’s car, they lapsed into conversation about school and classes. Once Willow pulled next to Tara’s car and shut of the engine, Tara turned to her and grabbed Willow’s hand.

“I had a really great time tonight Wil.” She said not looking at the redhead, but instead looking at their intertwined hands. They seemed to fit together, and it was all Tara could do to resist pulling Willow into a kiss. It was too soon for that right?

“Me too Tara, I had a wonderful time.” Willow stated watching Tara watch their hands. “I probably won’t see you tomorrow, with band and work, but I’ll be around Tuesday 2nd hour, if you want to hang out?”

Tara looked up at Willow again and was mesmerized by her beauty. The parking lot lights framed her hair and made it almost seem to shimmer in the darkness. “Yeah that would be cool.” Tara said finding her voice somehow. She gently squeezed Willows hand before dropping it and opening the car door. She unlocked her car and slipped inside. Willow waited for her to start her car before driving off herself.

Like staring into a reflecting pool this is so what the first stirrings of teen-age romance are.
The first time you are with someone with whom you feel more than lust and actually want to know even the smallest detail about.
Willow and Tara seated in the back row of the theatre and each self-conscious about how the other will react but both recognizing it as a one-time opportunity so when Willow tentatively places her hand over Tara's, Tara follows suit and shows her approval.
Nice they haven't kissed yet but what a kiss it will be when they do.

*content sigh* There are few things in this world better than mutually desired touch. That an act as simple as holding hands can make butterflies flutter by...

This is a lovely, delightfully charming story. My only bit of hopefully constructive criticism is that you ought to run it through a spell/grammar check before posting. The errors aren't such that they detract from the story, but you do have a few consistent misuses.

Please continue; I'm really enjoying this one!

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the awesome awesome feedback. I love it!!

Chapter 7
Monday morning, Tara sat with Buffy, Anya and Cordelia waiting for the first bell to ring.

“So did you get any work done with the routine?” Buffy asked.

“Yeah, actually I think I have something workable. I’ll be showing you guys today at practice. I think it will work with what Cordy was showing us, and the music we picked out.”

“So what’s the plan for practice then? I mean we also have to get ready for the pep assembly on Friday.” Anya pointed out.

“I thought we would go over the routine, and make any adjustments, then do some drills. Wednesday we’ll just get some of the cheers solid, and run through last years routine if they want us to do that. I’m not sure yet, I haven’t heard anything about what the schedule is like.” Tara replied somewhat distant as she tried to catch a glimpse of Willow. The redhead had invaded her thoughts since the night before, the smoothness of her hand, her intoxicating scent.

“Tara!” Buffy yelled.

“What?”

“I asked if we were going to do some throws at the pep assembly or not? God you don’t seem very into cheers, this year.” Buffy remarked angrily

“Sorry I just have a lot on my mind.”

“Yeah like that redhead band nerd.” Anya said.

“Hey, she’s not a nerd. Just because she’s smart doesn’t mean she is a geek. She’s really nice and sweet, you should get to know her before you make judgments.”

“Well whatever Tare, I’m just saying it’s not going to look good if you are dating some nerd.” Buffy exclaimed.

“We’re not dating, we’re just friends. And even if we were I fail to see how this affects you in anyway.” Tara said getting angrier by the second.

“Hello it affects all of us, you’re making the squad look bad hanging around the band.” Anya said.

“Hey guys, come on. We’re all friends here ok.” Cordelia said before the bell rang.

Tara hadn’t seen Willow all day and her semi-fight with Buffy and Anya had really gotten to her. Were her friends so close minded they could only see what clique one was in. She thought she had better choice in friends than that, but really they had been friends since grade school, so it was just expected of her. She sighed as she started preparing the lunchroom for their practice. She heard the sounds of the drumline waft in from outside and she smiled. Willow was out there somewhere and that made her happy.

Practice was normal and Buffy and Anya were eerily quiet. Tara decided to make amends with them, if nothing else, for the team.

“Hey guys can I talk to you.” She stopped Buffy and Anya after practice.

“Sure.”

“Listen, I’m really sorry about what I said this morning. It’s just, Willow is pretty cool and a really good person. Maybe she is a geek or nerd, but I don’t see why it matters. She is a good friend and I really like her.”

“Yeah, it’s cool Tara.” Buffy said.

“Yeah water under the bridge.” Anya remarked.

Tara wasn’t sure she believed them, but what else could she do. There was absolutely no way she would ever stop seeing Willow. She thought about visiting Willow at work, but decided against it. Was it too soon? Would she seem needy?

Instead Tara made her way home. She walked into the office where her mom was working.

“Mom?”

“Yeah honey?”

“Do you think I’m spoiled?”

“No, why do you say that? Did someone say something today at school?”

“No, no nothing like that. It’s just, well, Willow.”

“Willow, the girl you like?”

“Yeah, she has a job and bought her own car, and I’m pretty sure she doesn’t have much money and her parents don’t seem to give her any. I’m just wondering because I’ve never had a job, you gave me this car, and pay for insurance and I get an allowance.”

“Oh honey. Just because we have the means to give you things doesn’t mean you are spoiled. Now, Buffy yeah she is spoiled, but Tara it’s what’s inside that matters. Just the fact that you are even thinking you might be means you have a good heart, and are no where near spoiled.”

“If you want, we can stop giving you money.” Her dad piped up from the door way.

Tara smiled. “I wouldn’t go that far. I was thinking of getting a job this spring.”

“Just make sure it doesn’t interfere with cheerleading.” Her dad warned.

Tara frowned. “I don’t really care about cheerleading anymore.”

“What? You have been into it since Freshman year.” Her mom questioned.

“It’s just, I don’t know if I ever was into it. Maybe I just was because my friends were. It’s not like it’s going to matter after this year that I was a cheerleader. That’s not going to help me get a job anywhere.”

“Well those are all good points, but I don’t think you should give up. You made a commitment to those girls and you need to stand by it.” Her dad reminded her.

“I’m not quitting or anything, I just am not as into it as I used to be, and I can’t force myself to pretend. I’m going to do the best I can, it’s still fun, but I think I need to start focusing on other things you know.”

“Yeah we know.” Her mom said as she stood up and headed out the door. “I’m going to start dinner.”

Tara headed up to do some homework, but she didn’t get any of it done. She was busy thinking of the redhead and how her world was flipping upside down. Everything she thought she cared about, suddenly didn’t seem as important, and the not so important things, meant the world to her. One thing was for certain, she couldn’t wait to see the redhead 2nd hour.

Tara sat in first hour World Lit, when she suddenly remembered she hadn’t completed her Trig homework. She momentarily panicked before remembering she had 2nd hour off and could complete it then. It would cut into Willow time, but it had to be done. She entered the lunch room and found a booth and immediately took out her Trig book and started in on the assignment. Not to long after she had started, she felt someone slide into the seat beside her. She knew it was Willow, no one would ever sit that close to her, she felt Willow press into her side and it felt wonderful. She smiled and turned her head to see the beaming redhead.

“Hi.” She said.

“Homework?” Willow questioned.

“Yeah totally spaced it last night, and I have Trig next hour. Plus I don’t get it at all, I’m not that great with math in general.”

“Well lucky for you, I am.” Willow smiled and Tara felt like she was going to pass out at the proximity of the gorgeous wonderful woman. “Let me see.” Willow said as she placed her arm on the back of the booth behind Tara’s head and leaned into Tara more as she scanned the text. “Oh this is pretty easy once you get the basic concept down. Do you want my help?” Willow asked thinking Tara might not want her sticking her brain in where it didn’t belong.

“Yes please.” Tara squeaked out. She felt almost like Willow was holding her, and she would be if Willow moved her arm to grasp the blonds shoulders. But she didn’t as she started explaining the trig concepts. Tara found it hard to concentrate on what Willow was saying.

“For instance, an arc of 0.3 radians in a circle of radius 4 has length 0.3 times 4, that is, 1.2. Do you get it?”

“Um, I think so.” Tara said as she finished out the problem. “So this is right?”

“Yep, you’ll be a Trig wiz in no time.” Willow joked.

“I hope not.” Tara joked back and finished the rest of the work.

Willow took the time to study Tara’s profile. She was really breathtaking. Blond hair cascading over her soft smooth face, and down her toned shoulders. The occasional biting of her lip while she was concentrating. Willow had to suppress the urge to lean over and kiss Tara’s cheek, so she glanced around. She saw Cordelia making her way toward them. Willow momentarily thought of making an escape, but this was Tara’s friend so she couldn’t be all that bad, despite what Oz and Xander said.

Cordelia came and sat down opposite Willow and Tara and stared at them.

“Hey Cordy, this is Willow.” Tara introduced, a little worried on what Cordelia would say.

“Hi Willow.” Cordelia said as she stuck out her hand.

“Hey.” Willow said shaking her hand.

Tara was dumbstruck it was unlike Cordelia to greet anyone other than cheerleaders or football players. She furrowed her brow waiting for a snide remark to come out of the blonds mouth.

“So math homework?” Cordelia asked eying the text book.

“Yeah, spaced it last night. I’m done now though, thanks to Willow.”

“Yeah you’re like some genius right?”

“Um, well no, hardly genius.” Willow stumbled over her words.

“That’s not what the math department thinks.” Cordelia said.

“Yeah well that’s only because Mrs. Crookham is an idiot.” Willow said and Cordelia laughed.

“I have her for Geometry, she is kind of dense. If I don’t pass that class I don’t know what I’m going to do. I have to pass it, I just have to.” Cordelia said now sounding desperate.

“If you want some help I can try to find some time to help you.” Willow said as Tara kicked her under the table.

“Thanks, but I think I’m ok, for now anyway.” Cordelia said. “Listen Tara, I’m sorry about what Buffy and Anya said the other day.” She said glancing at Willow. “Sometimes they just need to grow up, you know?”

“Thanks Cordy, that means a lot.”

“Anyway I think they are just jealous you know, don’t worry too much about it. I’ll catch you guys later.” Cordelia said before leaving.

“Care to explain?” Willow asked.
“It’s nothing, Anya and Buffy are just being juvenile. When am I going to see you again?” Tara asked, not wanting to think about Buffy and Anya.

“Well I have to take my car in for service after school, I actually need a ride, but if you are busy it’s totally cool, I can walk.” Willow said a little apologetically. She didn’t want to ask her new friend for a ride home, but she didn’t have any choice. No one else she knew had a car, and it wasn’t like her parents were around to give her a ride. She could always walk, or take the bus, but it did give her an excuse to spend time with Tara.

“Well as a matter of fact, I don’t have anything to do after school today so I’ll all yours.” Tara blushed a little at her words, but didn’t take them back.

“Ok, great, so I’ll meet you in the student lot after school then?”

“Yep I’ll see you there.”

Willow walked out into the afternoon sun, she noticed Tara leaning against her Honda. Willow took in the sight of the gorgeous blond, sunglasses on, her casual stance in contrast to the red paint of the car. Her jeans fitting perfectly and Willow guessed they had cost upward of $100. She tried to keep herself composed and not slam the blond on the hood of her car and kiss her with utter abandon.

“Hi.” Willow greeted. “My cars over here, do you want to follow me?” Willow said pointing to her car.

“Lead the way.” Tara replied and enjoyed the view of the petite redheads behind as she walked to her car.

Tara followed the blue Volvo to the mechanics shop. She liked Willow, she really really liked Willow and it was getting harder and harder to keep her feelings in check. She wasn’t sure how to make the first move. Her other relationships the first kiss had always been awkward and fumbling, neither girl knowing what to do. But this was so different, Willow was different, special, beautiful… her thoughts were interrupted by the door opening and Willow throwing her bag in the back seat. Tara smiled at the other girl.

“So where to?”

“Well you can just drop me off by my house, it’s kind of a maze to get there so just drop me off at Arapahoe and University.” Willow said hoping beyond hope that Tara wouldn’t push the issue.

“Um, ok.” Tara said a little unsure. She probably doesn’t want you to see her house, because she figures you are like all your friends. Oh Willow, I am so not like that, how can I make you see, I like you for just you, not where you live or how much money your parents have. Tara was lost in her thoughts until Willow spoke again.

“You can pull over here.”

“Do you need a ride to school tomorrow?”

“No thanks, I need to ride my bike so I can get to work.”

“When are you picking your car up?”

“Um not sure, depends on what needs to be done. Hopefully not too much, they always seem to find other things wrong with it. Guess that’s what I get for buying an old car.”

“Well if you need a ride or anything just let me know.”

“Thanks.” Willow said as she placed her hand on Tara’s thigh. Both girls thought it had been way to long since they had touched. “I think my parents are back on Thursday so I’ll be ok.”

“Will I see you before Friday?”

“I don’t know, I have practice and work and you have practice the rest of the week.”

Tara smiled at the thought of Willow already knowing her schedule. “I’m going to miss you.” Tara said picking up Willows hand and toying with her fingers. She hoped she hadn’t overstepped her bounds, but the look on Willow’s face told her otherwise.

“Me too.” Willow said as she laced and unlaced her fingers with Tara. “Maybe you can sit with me for a while during the game on Friday?” Willow suggested again.

“Definitely, well if I don’t see you before then, take care.” Ugh take care, that is something you tell your grandmother. What else would you have said Tara, I want to take you right now in my back seat. Tara’s face flushed at the thought.

“ok I’ll see you later.” Willow said, grabbing her bag and exiting the car.

Cordelia as the voice of reason and sense in the arena of high school cliques, who knew?
Cheers to her for backing up Tara and all. This must be after she was humbled by her father running off with his secretary and Cordy having to work to support herself after that.
I might have done better in math if I had had a tutor like Willow who could put concepts in ways I could understand.
Willow and Tara's verbal dance around each other, the virtual on the edge of breaking through to the physical manifestation of their natural urges and desires for each other will make their first intimate expression all that more intense.
I can deny chicks in chainmail nothing.

Yay for great update-y goodness... Good that Cordy had some sense in her head and treated Willow as a person... I really really hope that someone would put some sense to Buffy's & Anya's head...

Well, I feel like they're becoming closer. I like the way Willow sits so close to Tara and it feels natural for them. Cordy's being nice. I'm a bit worried about whether Willow actually has parents and a house or if she's homeless and playing it off well. I hope one of them makes a bold move soon.

I'm liking this quite a bit, not something I'd usually read. I love how much your building this up, it's great. plus the whole Tara = popular cheerleader approach is pretty cool/different. cant wait for your next update!
