Chapter 15:
Hullo?
Stepping up beside the small table, Tara ran her fingertips over the wooden squares that covered the surface. Her mind whirled with the possibilities that she may not be able to help Willow, it didn’t seem to matter that she knew that she had jumped at the chance to help her friend with no though to her own secrets being exposed. She was less afraid of failing herself then she was of failing her friend, Willow had barely just met her, yet took her in and treated her as a human being. The emerald fire in Willows eyes when she looked at her after their first kiss in the gardens, the amusement that danced in her orbs when her cat had snuck up on Tara and scared her, it was these little glances that drove Tara to throw caution to the wind.
Slowly, she picked up the flask and almost dropped it in surprise at the warmth that seemed to emit from the flask. Looking over at the cat who stood as still as a statue, Tara wrinkled her nose before untwisting the cap off. Biting her lip, she fought the sudden urge to smell whatever was in the flask and sent a silent pray to any power that would listen. Closing her eyes she brought the flask to her lips and threw her head back, emptying the contents into her mouth and swallowing it as quickly as she could. Swallowing back the urge to vomit, she stumbled before falling to her knees while grasping her throat. The contents from the flask flowed through her like liquid fire, setting her throat on fire and burning through her veins, the only thing that gave her a small amount of comfort was the soft thrumming sound that enveloped her senses. Meanwhile the cat watched with a bored expression, this was the part she hated the most; waiting.
Falling, that’s was the first feeling that made its way through her senses, she was falling. Jerking up, Tara gasped filling her lungs with air, holding her hand to her chest. Staying like that, she tried to get her breathing under control before letting her eyes travel around the newest surrounding she found herself in.
“First, Alice in Wonderland and now the Labyrinth? Oh, Willow.”
The walls that surrounded her where made out of a small light brown bricks that showed two ways, left and right. Rubbing her chest at the slight ache left over from the liquid fire, she slowly stood up before dusting off her sweat pants more from habit then them actually being dirty and looked both ways trying to decide which way to start with.
Closing her eyes Tara leaned up against the wall, ignoring the biting feel of the rough bricks. Rubbing her tired eyes, she tried to think of what the next step would be. Running different ideas through her head, she pressed her palm against the wall before pushing herself off of it and smiling.
“I’m pretty sure I get it.” Turning towards the right she began to walk while running her fingertips over the wall to her left.
“Just like Alice had to drink the potion to get into Wonderland, Sarah had to go into the Labyrinth and when she did, she choose left first before turning around and going right.” Stopping for a second, Tara frowned, she was sure there was something she was supposed to be looking for that would tell her when to turn left. Walking further she kept a sharp eye out for what would signal a change in direction, running her eyes over the cracked bricks she started muttering to herself.
“What am I looking for, what am I missing.” She continued walking while repeating that phrase over and over, hoping it would spark the memory she need to know what she was looking for.
“Hullo.” Tara let out a surprised squeak at the new voice before looking around trying to spot its owner. At her failed attempt of spotting it, she licked her lips before speaking, “H-hello?” A soft chuckle filled the empty space before the voice spoke again off to her right, “Over here.” Turning towards the voice she spotted a small blue worm and almost smacked herself at forgetting about him. The worm smiled and bobbed its head slightly, “You look a bit lost, maybe I can help.” Tara sighed in relief the worm seemed a bit more helpful and polite then the cat was. Nodding her head in the affirmative, she looked over the walls of the Labyrinth and realized she didn’t even know where she needed to go. “Well, I suppose your trying to make you way to the suit doors, eh?” Blinking, Tara tried to remember what he was talking about but found herself coming up blank, she hadn’t seen the Labyrinth in years so most of the tasked where blurred together.
Looking at the worm she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, “To be honest, I’m really not sure where I should be going.” Rubbing her chest in frustration she leaned against the wall opposite of the worm and let out a scream of surprise when she fell backward through the wall. Shifting until she was in a sitting position she stared blankly at the entry she hadn’t seen before, blinking she was brought back at the sound of a soft giggle. “You really should be sure that a wall is a wall before leaning against it, least you bash your head if you fall through.” Snorting at the worms comment, Tara gently picked herself up and glared at the worm, which did nothing but make it laugh harder.
“Well, so much for being politer then the cat.” She muttered darkly under her breath before glancing up and down the newest hallway she found herself in. To the left the walls seemed to have sprouted moss, while to her right the walls seemed to be slick with water. Taking a gamble she began going down the left corridor, touching the moss cover wall every now and then. Looking up at what should be the sky, Tara found herself almost hypnotized watching the swirls of pink and purple that swirled around.
“You know, that the sky in a trap dontcha?” A soft British voice asked her. Snapping her gaze down from the sky and to the owner of the voice, Tara had to choke down a laugh at the newest person to add to the list. Standing in front of her with a sucker in her mouth, wearing blonde pig tail, a short dress, and platform shoes; was Baby Spice. Fighting a losing battle to keep from laughing, Tara sucked in a breath before letting it out.
“Oh Willow.”
Authors Note: Oh yeah, I did just go there! Unfortunatly I don't own her either.
