Amber Movie -Watchful eyes

Postby T Maclay » Sat Aug 02, 2003 5:25 am

I just found this info on IMDB under ambers name, that she is doing this movie, and both her and her mum are producing it, but it's the first thing that I have heard about it,

The plot for the movie ,

In a city where the streets are run by criminals, those who have sworn to uphold the law are breaking it. Amber Benson plays detective Stephanie Gallagher, a young police officer whose methods of enforcing the law become questionable, if not corrupt. Watchful Eyes follows Gallagher as she drifts further and further to the wrong side of the badge. Ethical dilemmas arise for her, as well as the audience as questions present themselves as to whether or not the Wolf Packs methodology for ridding the streets of criminals is right or wrong.

It sounds like it could be a good movie, not a one of Amber's normal roles, but It sounds good, but as I say, it's the first i've heard of it, and there are no other actors mentioned on the IMDB write up yet.

Has anyone else heard about this movie?

T Maclay: There was previously some discussion of the IMDb entry here but the information has not yet been officially confirmed.

Edited to add: Avern, I totally agree that IF it is true then this will be a brilliant project for Amber to be involved in, (especially the part about shooting the film in my home town of London), but I want official confirmation before I start getting excited about it.

I like the sound of this! I was a little concerned that Amber's interest in directing/producing movies meant that she would be doing less acting. Nice to hear that she still manages to appear on screen.

Can't wait to see it.

Back in June in NY during the Q & A she was asked whether she had any upcoming projects and she did not mention this at all. Hum, it would be nice though.

I think it's probably just been organised due to the lack of news about it, which is why it wasnt mentioned in june.

I have done a bit of investigating and here is what I have been able to find out:

There is an official website for this movie at watchfuleyesmovie.co.uk. The site is still under construction but there is a basic animated graphic outlining the film's plot and it ends with an image of Amber.

There is also a Watchful Eyes fansite that contains this info:

Quote:
I am a really big fan of Amber Benson. I was reading a magazine the other day and saw that she is going to be starring in a new futuristic thriller, as a hard ass cop. Here's what I heard.......

"NEW BRITISH INDIE FILM

British writer Teri Owens has returned from the US to make her directorial debut with the action-thriller Watchful Eyes. Former Buffy babe Amber Benson has been rumored to be linked to the project...."

The person who submitted the plot summary to IMDb posted this message to the Watchful Eyes Message Board at IMDb:

I was lucky enough to be given the chance to read the script to Watchful Eyes and I have to say it was great. It's a slight twist from the normal action thrillers emerging from Hollywood and in this instance is going to give a group of very talented young women a chance to shine in a genre mainly dominated by men. Watch out for a great film next year!

So, make of that what you will, but I am starting to believe that this project may actually be happening in the near future.

Edited to add: A link to another fansite for this movie.

Does that flash ani, the credit at the bottom, look like was actually done by the writer? Because it. . . Does to me.

And Amber has a poof coming out of the side of her head.

But it's exciting. Exciting a lot. "this lone wolf is going to tear apart the pack" or something similar. Hmm.

I don't know, I still remember that weird trailer someone made with Amber in it, this kind of reminds me of that because they use some old amber picture in it. I want more concrete info before I get excited.

Only two months ago Amber did not say a word about this, I doubt that this could have all come together in so short a time, so no other points needed for me really. It's interesting why someone would go through so much trouble to make this all up. Maybe it is a study to see how fast rumours can spread on the internet. I'll bet it's fast. Heh. As it is, I trust we won't have to wait too long before we hear about another Amber project, in the meanwhile Chance can keep us busy. :grin

There is a possibility that there is some truth in this film actually happening, with the lovely Amber. The reason why I think this is:- In the British convention thread, where we are all being disappointed for non appearence of at a 'convention' T. Maclay posted a quote from Amber saying that She is working at the moment and then is coming to England in autumn to work could be this film.

(sorry the actually information in the orginal post was removed due to being filtched by the organisers of the non existent con.)

So....:pray it is happening cos sounds cool movie.

the role as described does seem very different from what's she's done before but I guess that might be all the more reason for her to do it; to show a wider audience her full range as an actress.

Willow: ...I have to tell you....

Tara: No, I understand you have to be with the person you l-love

Willow: I am

I can't help but think of Wiccachica's "Cataclysm Cafe - Futopia" every time I think about this project... I wonder if Amber will look the same as I've been picturing cop Tara...

Mmmmm, I be liking the sound of that more and more.

Personally, I think Amber as a cop would look more than a bit like a slightly younger Molly Price from Third Watch, or even similar to Edie Falco when she appeared on Oz as a prison guard.

And that would be good, as there's just something so appealing to me about an attractive, intelligent dame in uniform. So here's hoping it works out that way.

Okay, some of this adds up and some of it doesn't. I met Amber through Teri at the Sidewalk Film Festival. They both told me they were working on something together, and that they would be back to Birmingham, Ala., with said project in "about a year." I remember it well since I discussed the potential crew calls with them.

I remember laughing with holley and my friend wes that the web site on Teri's business card was fake. But it links you to the other site now. Weird. In addition to that, I have no idea why Teri was even at Sidewalk :hmm

But she was real nice. And I enjoyed talking to her. I'd speculate that the project is a go with some tweaking. I figure this to be a small-time indie deal as well.

I am a reader for a film financing company in London and I was asked for an opinion on this script by some financers. It's great! Nothing at all like most other British films, it has action, suspense, quick wit and yet it carries a very raw truth about human nature and leaves you with an amazing empathy for the main character. The part Amber is set to play is the lead role of Stephanie Gallagher and the story charts her spiral onto the wrong side of the law and her journey to start on the path of redemption. The film is a rollercoaster of emotion set amongst some very well written action sequences that I believe is going to make an amazing film.

The film isn't set in England but in a fictional city 20 years in the future and to the best of my knowledge will be shooting in the north east of England in the later end of the year/early next.

I'm sorry I can't really share any more as it would be more than my job is worth!

You know, I couldn't for the life of me remember where I'd seen the name Mike Dunn before. But then it hit me like a ton of bricks. His hope page, The Black Lodge. He also runs Lynchnet, the David Lynch resource site.

Fascinating. And serendipitous if you ask me.

taraandwillow2000 has just posted this message at the Essence of Amber forum:

Quote:
This is a transcript of an interview Teri (Owens) did about Watchful Eyes on BBC radio. It was just sound bites but they said the whole interview would be played later...but I don't know when.

BBC RADIO NORTH YORKSHIRE

BREAKFAST NEWS TRANSCRIPT

Alan Webber: "Amber Benson made a name for herself as the lesbian witch Tara in Buffy the Vampire Slayer but she's swapping her book of spells for a police manual in the futuristic thriller Watchful Eyes."

Teri Owens: "Basically it's about choices: the ones we make and the ones we don't, and how they effect other people."

Alan Webber: "The film will be directed by former Granby High School student Teri Owens. Teri has spent the last 5 years living in America; she began working for a production company in Los Angeles while also studying screenwriting in the evening at the University of California. Meeting Amber Benson was a lucky break."

Teri Owens: "The production company I was working for in LA had Amber in to talk about another film and I had to take her to a lunch meeting. Then we met up again for other stuff and at film festivals and over time we just became friends. I gave Amber the script just for an opinion and she came back and said she'd like to be in it. She's going to be one of the producers as well so I'm making the assumption she likes it. We were just really lucky to meet when we did."

Alan Webber: "Teri's American contacts have helped her put together a project with a budget of almost £2 million. But she says many of the people are working for love not money. She wanted to make a British film and part of the action will be filmed locally at castles that for now will remain nameless."

Teri Owens: "I'm not worried about the whole futuristic part of it. The part of the film the castle is in is supposed to look older and more mysterious so I'm not worried about the Yorkshire locations at all."

Alan Webber: "Filming should get underway later this year and if all goes to plan Watchful Eyes will premiere in May next year. This is Alan Webber reporting for the BBC."
