All interested Kittens should note that Anthony Stewart Head's new CD, which is due for release on February 5, contains, in his own words, "a couple of tracks featuring Amber Benson".

I think this is old info unless ASH is releasing another album a year, exactly, to the date, after his last one. I haven't seen any info on a new album anywhere either.

here is the amazon.co.uk link for the album. music for elevators

on this page you can see that the release date is Feb 5, 2002, not 2003...

I think that explains everything.

Has any Kitten actually bought this CD? I realize I haven't heard any clips from it and I wonder how much Amber really does feature in it before I actually buy it next time I am in England.

I got the CD for X-mas and it's pretty cool. However, Amber is only on 2 songs - All the Fun of the Fair & Last Time. Her parts are that of background vocals only. If you listen closely you can hear her voice. Sorry to disappoint, but she doesn't have any lead vocals on any of the songs. However, both James Marsters and Alyson Hannigan have small parts on 2 other songs as well. The other female vocals are other people altogether. Hope this helps.

Thanks Tina for that info, any chance you can tell me what the songs were that featured Alyson at all? (So I know what songs to look for?)

Sure - there's is only 1 song that includes Alyson. It's the very last track #16 (hidden track) and called End Game. It's a spoken part and very, very subtle. But, extremely cute!

Hope that helps!

Does anyone know why Alyson didn't sing much in OMWF?

No atse, I'm with you on that. I bought this album and listened to it all the way through and had trouble hearing Amber's voice as more than background vocals.

The album itself is great, if you like hearing ASH's voice. He's an accomplished singer and I think he probably had a good response to this album considering his fanbase. Musically, it's not really that much to my taste, but it's definitely listenable, if that's a word.

And I think Aly didn't sing much in OMWF because she didn't want to...at least, that's what I read.

Yup that is what she and other have said in interviews. She did not want to sing, too bad because the few lines she did sing sounded very nice. I would have loved it for her to have sung a few of those lines to Tara.

Music for Elevators is a terrific CD, and I recommend it highly. If you can find a web site with samples, you can get a feeling for what it sounds like before you buy it. Reviewers at amazon.com have compared the music to Sting, Seal, Gabriel, and Bowie, so ASH is in pretty good company. :D Of course I also like George Sarah, ASH's collaborator, a lot, so my opinions are somewhat biased. ;)

It's true you really can't hear Amber that much (ditto the other Buffy guest vocalists). On "All the Fun of the Fair," you can barely tell she's on it (if her name wasn't in the liner notes, I'd have had no clue). She's more recognizable on "Last Time" (which is a terrific track, one of the best on the CD).

I would kill for another ASH recording.

I really liked the whole album. Tony has an excellent voice and Amber's vocals are good too.

Alyson doesn't sing on 'End Game' its more a little voice over thing.

On the subject of voice overs does anyone who has the CD just get scared when James Marsters starts talking. If you let the Cd run on after end game he comes on and it scares the crap outta me every time!

I guessed that Alyson mustn't have wanted to sing...I wonder why....because she was pretty good, I keep replaying the 3 or so times she sings on the whole CD (coupled with the wiggly of the hands when she sings about the boy in broadway).

So to reiterate this, the back up in Last Time, the female vocal, is that Amber? Because I just can't tell that it is her......sorry for sounding stupid...

Same with All the Fun of the Fair...female vocal is also Amber?

I don't have the liner notes right in front of me, but I'm pretty sure Amber shares b-vox with a singer named Justina Machado (I'm not sure if the spelling is right, but it's something like that). On "Fair," you can't even tell Amber is in there. On "Last Time," her vocal is more prominent, and you'd recognize it as her if you'd heard her sing in the musical (although she does sing quite a bit lower on this song than in "Under Your Spell"). It's a wonderful song--penned by Joss Whedon, interestingly enough. It almost sounds like it might've been an out-take from OMWF.

Postby Iamyouknowyours » Thu Jan 23, 2003 5:19 pm

I got my hopes up for a moment there about a second album. I have to recommend this one highly. I only bought it initially out of curiousity and a great love of ASH. I can hear Amber on Fun in The Fair. She's just singing in her comfortable range (low belt) as opposed to her head voice in OMWF (Joss decided to push her and JM's ranges for the hell of it). Personally, I think she could make quite a lovely metso-soprano given a little more training. She would be fabulous in musical theatre given her dance background. She would be such a cute Carrie in Carousel don't you think? If only, I'd love to see it. Ah well, this girl can dream. And how about a Amber solo album? It would fly off the racks even if only the kittens bought it. Mmmm...happy Amberlicious thoughts.

Um, back to the album. Buy it, because it's really frickin good. The fact that James, Amber and Aly (like a beatle on it's back!) are on it are just a bonus. Oh and Aly doesn't like to sing or dance, it is her opinion that she can not do either, so she begged Joss not to make her have to. Her three lines in OMWF are fine, but given more complicated music she may have had pitch/range difficulty. It's sort of hard to tell since she isn't likely to sing for us all in the near future.

still having trouble

Postby atse28 » Thu Jan 23, 2003 5:57 pm

I won't bother fellow kittens any further for my stupidity but as a final note, I've listened to the songs and I just can't hear Amber at all....I can hear the female vocalist obviously very well and I just can't hear my dear Amber :cry

I'll see if the album is any clearer.

Yeah the quality of the mp3 you are listening to makes a difference, I assume it's clearer on the cd.

Alyson not singing

Postby Firefoot » Fri Jan 24, 2003 8:34 am

I don't blame Aly for not wanting to sing. I don't have the world's greatest voice (that's putting it mildly), and really hate any occasion that requires singing... even "Happy Birthday to You!" ;)

The thing that kind of surprises me is her not wanting to dance. The dance numbers in OMWF didn't strike me as terribly complicated. But maybe she's just self-conscious. One thing I really enjoyed about the musical is how JW wrote the numbers keeping the talents and limitations of his cast in mind. MT, for example, can't sing really well, but she's evidently had some dance training--so she didn't sing much in the episode, but she got her cute little "Nutcracker" number with those weird puppet guys.

Does anyone here besides me think that Amber's dance by the pond (stream, lake, whatever...) in "Under Your Spell" bears more than a passing resemblance to the Kate Bush video for "Wuthering Heights?" :)

Happy weekend, everyone... and if you're anywhere up north... stay warm!!
