The Wisdom Of War By Christopher Golden (New novel)

Postby Puff » Thu Jul 04, 2002 10:34 am

Ok there is a new book out hence the thread title and Chris absolutly loves Willow and Tara. That is why this book is full of them. They hold hands, kiss, say "I love you" and are just so damn sweet.

I read the book last nightand it is really very good, it even has Faith in it. Although it is set just before the body in season 5.

Cute parts from the book. Of which there are many, including a whole Willow and Tara chapter go like this.....

pg 17

And with Tara in her life, and the love and warmth she had found with her Willow had blossomed into a far more confident person, a change that showed most obviously in the extraordinary surge in proficiency with her witchcraft.

pg 76

"Now back to the part where your research turned up jack" Willow prodded.

Tara glanced sidelong at her girlfriend.

Willow made a small fist and waved it at her, and the two grinned in that secret, knowing way only lovers ever did. It amazed him (Giles) now, looking back upon it, that he had not realised sooner that Willow and Tara were more than just friends.

pg 77

She pushed a lock of red hair behind her ear. "I know but when you're working on just a few hours' sleep, sometimes one-upmanship is the only motivation that'll keep you awake." Then that secret smile returned as she glanced at Tara. "Other times_"

"What did you find out?" Giles interupted.

pg 78

The watcher turned to Willow "Well done."

Tara nodded in agreement "She has magic fingers." Then, as though the words had just echoed back to her and sounded not at all right, she perked up and glanced around at the others. "On the keyboard."

So yes this book rocks, lots of Willow and Tara. I can post more if people would like. But by no means everything as It would involve typing out most of the 401 pages. Oh and Tara tells cute jokes as well :D

Extremely adorable... but you know with her adding that, you know that Willow does have the magic touch!

You can order this from amazon.com right now. The UK amazon site won't have this until August 5th. So those of you with credit cards, if you don't want to wait, it's not that expensive to order from the US.

Oh my goodness, new Willow/Tara goodies, this gave me a genuine smile, that has been a while, thanks Puff. :love

That man really understands Willow and Tara, bless him, I especially love this bit:

Oh yeah, (unintented) naughty innuendo of the best kind, and it is so totally typical Tara. :laugh

I wish I could find it but there was a great quote from Chris Golden that he said recently at a con that was posted on the board. Something to do with the direction of the series, that he would put kill Anya and put Xander in a black wig for a couple of eps.

Could someone find that post cause it was very funny.

Hey Puff, thanks for this! I will have to get it. I haven't yet seen any non-internet W/T stuff, so this will be v. interesting. And what a change to read something actually printed on paper (aside from the economy-mode printouts I make for myself to read on the bus after work!)

Of course I found a great one as soon as I opened the book

pg 165

Willow glanced at Tara, took strength from her presence. It felt sometimes as though they were one person, and when they acted together, Willow felt capable of almost anything. That extended to their magick as well. Together they were more powerful than they were separately; greater than the sum of their parts.

pg 166-67

Once they reached that dive, Willow and Tara stayed near the door while McGee worked the room. The Fish Tank was not the sort of place either of them would hang out, and Willow suspected that some of the other people in the bar sensed this, for mnay of them glanced her way and muttered to one another.

"T-tell me I'm not paranoid," Tara said, her eyes roving as she tried to look at the mirror behind the bar or the windows or the floor or anything but the people who kept staring at them.

"Nope. Feeling more than a little self-conscious myself," Willow admitted.

A strange smile passed over Tara's face, and sge turned to whisper to Willow. "They're looking at us like they think we're gay or something."

The two girls laughed softly and Willow covered her mouth to hide her laughter. It was a relief to have that release of tension they were feeling. But underneath it all the reason for it still remained. When sge had realized what she felt for Tara and not only admitted it to herself but embraced it, Willow had known that there would be times when ignorant people would not accept her, or welcome them. Those times had been mercifully few, but they happened. The vibe in the Fish Tank was much the same; they were being shunned because they were different.

When Baker McGee made his way back through the bar to them, the girls shared a sense of relief. Willow slipped her arm through Tara's for comfort and didn't give a damn who saw her. For his part McGee seemed not to think anything of it.

Ok I'll type some more later :) Hope you like these ones.

Thanks again for posting some of the passages, puff! And yes I too ran to Barnes and Noble and got this novel, I can't wait to read it tonight. I love the last passage puff posted, especially "Willow slipped her arm through Tara's for comfort and didn't give a damn who saw her." Just a beautiful description (the whole passage), especially for an official Buffy novel (ie as opposed to seeing this all the time in fan fic, but here in an official book this a novelty). Truly, Chris Golden understands W&T, too bad he doesn't write for the show!

It will be kind of interesting to see how/if any of the well-known official BtVS novel writers handle S6. I can imagine a lot of them (Christopher Golden included) feeling that it's not a playground that they want to play in.

Man, this guy needs to be an honorary kitty. And am I remembering it wrong, or was he the one who said in the interview that he thought this season was too dark and he wondered if it would push the fans away. One of the outside writers said something like that, but I can't remember which one it was.

Either way, Chris is cool! :)

I have to say I would only consider a Buffy novel if it was truly W/T centered, I mean come on they did an Oz novel about his search for werewolf cure, couldn't we have one W/T centred effort?

Willow: ...I have to tell you....

Tara: No, I understand you have to be with the
person you l-love

Willow: I am

I think some of those ignorant people have posted here actually.

Seriously, this is another wonderful quote, not only does he understand and amanges to convey the depth of their love, he also addresses them being gay and what that means, to them, to others. I really wish Christopher Golden would run BtVS, and teamed with Rebecca Rand Kirshner we might just find ourselves in WT paradise, paradise on earth that is.

Chris really is a big fan of the show, I'd love him to write some of the Buffy episodes and things as he has such a wonderful grasp of the characters.

This is not a Willow and Tara centric novel although I am crossing my fingers and praying that he writes the second Willow chronicles which are sure to have Tara in them :) But there is more Willow and Tara than many of the other characters.

Anyone else that has read this, then I'd love to hear your opinion of it. And I'm still looking for more quotes to type up.

I ordered my book from TV Merch, but I have not gotten very far. I have been glued to the television screen watching the Williams Sisters. I can't wait to really get into the book.

It is taking a while to get started, but it is setting things up very nicely. I am awaiting the new W/T comic. Less than a week to go :bounce :bounce :bounce

Tara: My heart doesn't stutter.

Tara: Willow, I got so lost.
Willow: I found you. I will always find you.

Willow: Hi, um Tara. I was wondering maybe you want to go out some time for coffee? food? Kisses and gay love?

Started reading this one yesterday, and have to say so far I am *really* enjoying it. It's set in such a perfect time in the series. Mid-season 5, post-Riley, pre-Joyce's demise, W/T happily together, secure in their relationship, and out to their friends. Sigh. Plus, the book apparently has Faith in it too, which is always a plus.

I've been looking around each month for a new Buffy book to see if there's the slightest bit of W/T action in it, and I've been pretty disapointed. I didn't know that Chris was a big fan of Willow and Tara, now I'm pretty damn happy. Heh, maybe he can have some kinda influence on Joss, if he even has any whatsoever. I think I'll go looking around for this book, whoopee.
