Amber Interview in The Birmingham News

Postby Rally » Thu Jul 25, 2002 8:12 am

Found this on BAPS, Bama Kittens might want to look this one up:

Quote:
Got to work and on the front page of the Birmingham News is Amber Bensen up in the corner referring back to the lifestyle section.

Turns out AB is a Birmingham native went to the same elementary school as my nephews did almost directly across the street from my sister's home AB must have been a Brookie.

Nothing particularly new in the interview. She doesn't verify that she's returning to BtVS. However, she did explain that the reason she's in B'ham is that she's shopping around her independent movie "Chance" at various film festivals and she's here for the Birmingham Sidewalk Film festival beats the hell out of me what that is I should probably chack the Alabama Theater and "Black & White" if it's listed anywhere, it would be listed there. Would be so neat if I could see it. 'Cause you know it's a romantic comedy starring JM.

Well officially, of course, I have to say that I have no idea what you're talking about.

Sure sounds like a "That's all folks" to me. Hope her movie finds a home and that she has a great time on her decompression Tour of America.

Most of the article is pretty much of repeat of what she said at the Q and A in Toronto, except for this quote:

“That's three years of my life, kind of over," Benson says wistfully. "But it's exciting to go on to new things."

That makes it sound kind of final as far as Buffy is concerned.

It's good for her, more indication that she was probably less than pleased with how show ended and though I would love to see here appear on the show. Perhaps she is wisely staying away from committing to them schedule wise at all. I think most of us would agree that no Tara is better than, ghost Tara, shape shifter big bad Tara, put the screws to Willow one more time Tara, et all.

You know it's hard to comment isn't it. We all want to just hold on to a bit of hope. Combine this with other things, it is the only conclusion. Like Joss saying they went for the sex cause it was their last chance to do it. It all adds up. Good for Amber though, Buffy's loss.

Thanks for the links guys.

That woman is absolutely amazing. Talking about portraying a lesbian in the local paper in Birmingham, Alabama, where she was born and still has friends and family (I think her grandparents are still in that area).Alabama is not the most desirable place to live in if you're out,(insert sarcasm font) yet she's talking freely about her character and her three years on Buffy. What a woman!

Amber has more class in her little finger than jw will ever have.

Now I gotta go e-mail erik again at Sidewalk to tell him Amber is in Birmingham, and have they been able to connect yet about showing Chance at the festival.

I wanna meet Amber some day!!!!!!!!!!!!:cry

If you read the "Amber facts" article linked to the bottom of the first one, you'll see that they state that Amber's immense popularity with internet fans has led to her having "no privacy."

Hmmm.

Fans who won't leave her alone? Can't imagine who they might be referring to... :lol

Frankly this is about as clear as I think we are going to get with the games that ME will want Amber to play for them. She obviously still has a lot of respect for them (as she proved last year) and so she will obliged with the occassional mysterious comment. Fair enough - it keeps peopel interested in her too... and she has a career to think of. Maybe there is some S7 role for her... but it is not Tara. It is not recurring.

This is it for W/T.

Again frankly it is long past time that we knew.

I'm having to laugh, cause I leave this thread for just a few minutes to e-mail Erik Jambor of Sidewalk again, to ask him if he's been able to contact Amber since she's in Birmingham. I've been nagging him for a couple of months to get Amber and CHANCE for this years Sidewalk Film Festival.

Ah, the wonders of the internet and the speed with which the Kittens respond to news of her Amberness.:)

maudmac, where are you when we need you????(She lives in Birmingham, in case any of you were wondering why I was referring to maudmac).

I'll let you guys know if I hear anything from Erik.

Yep, it sounds like that’s it, and you know what, I’m happy about it. We all know Joss wouldn’t have brought back the real Tara anyway, just some ghost/dream/shape shifter crap to mess with Willow, so I’d much rather not see her on Buffy period.

I wish her the very best with her future plans, and whatever that may be (acting/writing/directing) I will watch/read anything she does. I’ll will forever be a fan of hers…always.

Ummm, Rally what is BAPS, please? I googled, and the closest I could find was for Bloody Awful Poet Society (Spike). The Tara stuff I found there was very sweet. They wrote:

"We, the members of the Bloody Awful Poet Society, grieve at the loss of Tara. While we are primarily Spike fans, that does not blind us to the wonderful acting by Amber Benson when portraying the marvelous character Tara, who many of us believe was the most centered, mature, and compassionate member of the Scooby Gang.

Amber Benson's wonderful acting made Tara rise above being just Willow's girlfriend and come into her own as a character. Her quirky smile and sly sense of humour will be terribly missed. In every scene she graced, Tara held a quiet grace, exhibiting an inner strength and harmony with the natural world that was truly remarkable. It was a wonderful experience having her in our lives, even if just for this brief period. She won't be forgotten.

For all of Tara's fans and admirers, our thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow, We know that you are all devastated by this loss. Please know that we are here, feeling your pain and frustration.

With deepest regrets and heartfelt sympathy,

Bloody Awful Poet Society"

Wow. That blew me away.

I'd already lost all hope of seeing the real Tara again, to be honest if the only sight of Tara we were due to get was of her as a ghost telling Willow to get on with your life or as some kind of punishment for her, then I'm glad it's over, although I still wouldn't put it past Joss to do that to us anyway :(

Good for Amber though, she's moving on and we know it will be to bigger and better things!

Joss really has no idea what he's thrown away does he, no idea at all!

That would be BAPS, they posted about presumably because of it was Buffy related and it of course Jamers Marsters is in Chance.

I am on the list because when I posted pictures from the Emmy panel, some posted the links onto the BAPS list. I had to join to track the person down. So yes I am on the "Spike" list.

Well I guess I too am finally resigned to the fact that Amber is probably gone from Buffy, and if she does come back it won't be in any meaningful way. Or in other words, she will be on the show for probably 1-2 episodes, and not playing the character we all want/need to see (an alive Tara). I guess I did still have the tiniest bit a hope left, and though sad Tara is truly gone (I finally have accepted this fact, my hope is non-existent), I am happy for Amber. Here is a woman who cares about her fans, sensitive to our feelings, and one hell of an actress. I hope she finds success in her career (whether it be in front of the camera or behind), she is truly talented, and deserves the best.

When Amber looms in Birmingham, the call goes out to maudmac?

Where I am? Home, sweet home. Alas, Amber has yet to knock on my door. For the life of me, I can't imagine why.

I don't think there's anything in the article to change things. Tara's dead. We knew that. There's no confirmation about how, when, or if Tara will be back, while the possibility that she will be is sort of hinted at. We knew that, too.

This is just my personal opinion, but I'm pretty confident that Chance will be at Sidewalk. I hope that can be confirmed while she's in town meeting with the Sidewalk folks.

Well, this may be out of line here, so don't get angry if it is, and it's really none of my business..But first a house then a fully loaded Suburban...That's kind of a big spending spree for someone who doesn't know if they're going to have a steady job next year...I still think Amber knows, I just don't believe she's going to give anything away..But I have a tiny bit of faith from her telling katydid not to worry about next year, and that little comment Alyson made too...It would just be so much more dramatical to reunite Willow and Tara than try to start something new this late in the game...

I got this from Amy at Zap2it today:I've heard nothing concrete yet -- as soon as I know something, I promise to

put it in my column.

Thanks for reading and for writing. Write any time.

If Amber is done with the show, why doesn't she just say she's done with it? What can they do to her at this point? They certainly have never punished Emma for shooting her mouth off....She seems to be throwing the ball at ME, she says she wants to come back and ME keeps saying she is coming back...I mean what's up with this shit..Could there be just disagreement over how and the number of episodes she would be in that have to be resolved first..DrLoyd said that Amber was hesitant about coming back if her character was only going to be used to cause more pain, which I take it to mean they are at least talking....and three things....1- why did she tell katydid not to worry about next year, which katydid took as a good sign at the time 2- why did Alyson say "you never know" in response to the end of Willow and Tara and 3- Wanda saying her sources have told her that there will be more Willow/Tara warm snugglies........

Lying to us more, dragging this along is just going to piss off even more fans than you managed to alienate so far this past year, and they know we read spoilers

Sorry for rant..Tired of these stupid games

I haven't tried out the sarcasm filter in my brand spanking new glasses (as well as new contacts and reading glasses, I'll have you know, missy!!).

I guess I did break the old glasses on watching Keri Jo and her wonderful dimples so much.

1 - "Don't worry" means nothing other than "Don't worry." It doesn't mean "Don't worry, I'll be back" or "Don't worry, there will be more snuggly scenes" or anything of that nature. It just means "Don't worry." For all we know, Amber simply didn't want one of her fans to be fussing and fretting and white-knuckling through another year.

2 - "You never know" is pretty much the boilerplate response any actor gives to any fan about a storyline that fan wants to see. It means nothing. It promises nothing. It's pretty much on the same level as "Don't worry."

3 - Wanda's sources have spent the last two years telling her Seth Green was only moments away from stepping back into his role as Oz. It hasn't happened yet.

At this point, Amber has moved on. Does that mean we'll never ever ever see her on Buffy again? No, she could still potentially make another appearance. But will any future role on Buffy ever be as significant or as prolonged as what we had before? Amber seems to think not. And that's what I think, too.
