The banner is sooo pretty :heart

While we're sharing, I guess I've never really talked much about it (besides the obvious) but this seems a good time... Tara's my hero. I mean, there are plenty of characters I like who are heroes in various fashions, Major Kira and Aeryn Sun and She-Hulk and so on, not just because they tend to leave bad guys in ruins (that's fun) but for the usual things like courage and conviction and taking the high road even when it's not the easy one, but I'm never going to be a superhero or a soldier or a freedom fighter (I mean, I hope not, I'd be awful at them). Right from the start (especially from the start, shy and awkward and hesitant to speak up) I could identify with Tara, I felt like - in spite of her obviously being ridiculously gorgeous - there was someone like me. And the fact that (regardless of swinging the occasional axe when circumstances demanded it) she never had to be reworked into some kind of action-hero type to be one of the heroes, that really meant the world to me. Having never been blessed with an over-abundance of self-esteem, it was huge to find this character who I could admire, but also actually hope to emulate in my own life. Tara made me feel it was okay to be me, and still does.

(And yes, I know I often tend to write her as ultimate-action-hero on a level even Buffy would find over the top. I'm aware of the irony. :laugh )

Quote:
Our subtextual courtship was subtle but it was in the power of the stare. I will never forget watching Hush and all of us watching new, they didn't say a freaking word. Those of us who saw it were overwhelmed with the power of this chemistry.

I remember watching Hush with my wife on our weekly Buffy date, baby in bed. (That baby is now a senior in high school, god help us.) Every time Willow and Tara looked at each other, Christy and I looked at each other, too, like, Are we imagining those looks? During the commercials, it was all we could talk about. By the time they grabbed hands, we were losing it. We talked about it all week, waiting for the next episode: "Do you think they will get together? Did it mean what we think it meant?" We were in our 30s, for chrissakes, and behaving like twittering preteens at the possibility there could be women "like us" on tv.

Full disclosure: I am a crier. I own it, I do. And looking at these pics and these gifs makes me tear up and it's almost a week later and I'm still tearing up. Pure happy tears. Willow and Tara, still together, probably with kids and jobs and pets and housework and all the pieces of "real life", and here they are still making it work. I cannot express how much this means to me. :wtkiss

xita DarkWiccan Not to nitpick :-) but as of now Tara is only 36 and Willow probably has a month or two to go before she hits that same age.

DaddycatALSO - I think when xita and I were discussing the girls being in their forties... we were referring to the actresses actual ages and not the characters. At least, I was. Amber is (just) 40 and Aly is 43.

I just wrote a story that takes place in the (slightly future) present tense wherein Tara is 37 (the timeline of the story takes place after what would be her 37th bday this year). So, fully aware of characters' ages vs the actors' :grin

Cheers!

Crawling from my hole to join in on the excitement. Spent the past few days living and breathing Buffy again. I seriously need to find an outlet for all the Willow/Tara love. Have not been able to get ahold of the physical EW magazine yet, nowhere in the UK seems to sell it. I want to see the pretty pictures all glossy.

I was thinking of Aly and Amber myself. i was their age then, I am 45 now lol. It's one of those things. Yes, it's AU w/t so we have no idea what age they're supposed to be.

I have the magazine, I subscribe to EW if anyone needs anything from it. I am working on the bottom gifs now! yay

Ok, I couldn't edit myself so I am asking for feedback. These are the proposed 3 gifs, in that order from left to right. Suggestions?

I'm looking at the laundry room scene, before they do the hands thing, where Benson has that look of dopey adoration: so fkn goofily naive and focused. I think that's when I realised what was about to happen on the show. Because I had the same reaction just now as I did back then of, "Gaaaaayyyyyy!" So, uh...clearly I haven't matured one damn bit.

I think the order you've selected is fine. Sweet and chronological.

Those are beautiful :thud (Especially having the 20th Anniversary gif at the end of the row - in my head their look-to-camera is kind of "Yep, that's us, we rock.")

And today we are 20 years from the original airing of Hush and our entire origins on this board. To this day I have the same feeling toward both Willow and Tara and all of you wonderful kittens here:

That's incredible. It feels as if no time at all has passed, but then at the same time it's like a lifetime ago. That episode and everything that followed has been hugely important to me.
