Amber's slated to be a guest speaker at the University of Utah's 'Smart TV' course and some seats are available to the public:



She'll be talking on 'issues of diversity on television with relation to sexuality and gender, as well as her interdisciplinary creative work.'

And apparently they'll be a podcast available for the rest of us

This sounds incredibly awesome . Amber must be one of the few Buffy alumni who have been invited as guest speaker at a uni other than Joss, not sure about other cast members. Now all I need is a pod to have it cast into when it's available lol.

Okay, so late on reporting this, but I just came across it and didn't see another post about it on the board, so I thought I'd share in case anyone else didn't know either.

Amber's set to be the Guest Of Honour at Gaylaxicon 2011 (basically a gay Comic-Con - what's not to love!?). The event's being hosted by Outlantacon, in Atlanta in May, the 13th-15th.

Well, its an education. I didn't know there was such an event. Very good to see Amber being a guest of honour there, not only for her role as Tara but also for her very public pro-LGBT stance. She is a genuinely kind and decent lady, and she gets my respect through these sorts of events. Forget the mainstream, Amber seems determined to say that all are inclusive.

Will be interesting if by "speaker" they mean someone who will be having a conversation or someone who will actually be presenting a lecture. I'm kind of hoping it will be both, with AMber giving her views and then talking with the students, rather than just a straight Q & A as it would be interesting I think to get Amber's full take. We all know it I think, but I believe that all voices need to be heard and this would give AMber a very public platform toperhaps talk about and idenitify where she feels the media has got it right and where they got it wrong and where the media needs to move towards.

So it's still a while aways yet, but Amber's been confirmed as a guest at Hallowhedon 3, the convention that celebrates Halloween and Joss Whedon all in one massive weekend, October 28th-30th at the The Radisson Edwardian, Heathrow.

Charisma Carpenter is also slated to be a guest.

Err, couple of things I'd say about Alyson discussing Buffy and the whole W/T relationship. She is and always has when asked spoken most affectionately of her time working with Amber and the positive message W/T put out there. That she doesn't speak that much about it may be that she wants to discuss the here and now, rather than the past (which is fair enough).

As for Buffy being her major role, I'd disagree there. Whilst it brought her some attention to be sure it is her role in the American Pie movies that has brought ehr far more public recognition than her work on Buffy and given the role she plays on HIMYM, it is undeniably her work on the Pie films that got her that role, Buffy I'd argue being a secondary factor.

As for Amber, she has from the off been very honoured with the work she did as Tara and the public support and positive image the character and the relationship brought. In terms of LGBT advocacy she has never shied away from the issues when asked.

I always felt that they should have brought Amber's character back long ago. It's one of the reasons I stopped watching the show.

Now that she's coming back, I'll have to start watching again. Wouldn't it be great if the Mother starts berating Lenore not only for her "dietary" choices, but also for hanging out with with scrawny humans, "...like that half-starved poet Edgar Poe".

When one of those students said 'horror genre' I thought she said 'whore genre'. That's a pretty useless comment but I thought I'd share!

I thought her comments on the 'masculine' approach to sexuality on the show was really interesting.

I loved how articulate and engaging Amber was even though she was clearly so sleepy lol

And I leave you with what I think has become my favourite Amber quote.
